Torn Between Two Lovers...Namor doesn't look too happy that Bucky has carried Shuri mermaid out of his ocean.

It's been a while since l last posted, but l plan to get back on track and post more. May is my busiest month for doing illustrations. This was supposed to have been for the the last day of Mermay, but since l work part-time with full-time hours 🙄, l just didn't have the time to finish this, but l loved the idea so I'm posting it anyway! Also, it was giving a bit of Little Mermaid... I'm going to see the movie my next day off!

AOD, All For You, Chapter 6

Bucky woke up feeling groggy.  When he attempted to move, he was held back by a strap across his chest. 

“W-what the hell?”

“James!” Bucky’s attention snapped towards the familiar voice.  And all too quickly two small, warm hands were on either side of his face, “oh my god, James...you’re awake.”

“Shuri?” he asked, brows furrowed as he tried to figure out what the hell was going on.  He went to reach up, but only his flesh hand stroked her cheek.  He looked to his left arm and noticed the mottled, ruined metal, “mother fucker.”

“They thought you died,” she whimpered, stroking his cheek.  Bucky hissed in pain, and she frowned, “I’m sorry…you do have some burns where your arm didn’t protect you.”

“Burns?”

“Call it in to Drysdale and Nicola,” Nick huffed as he moved around your mother’s place.  He sighed to himself as he waited for Ransom to respond to the quick message.  Your mother was nowhere to be found, and the geotagged location at the docks was set for Curtis and Ari to investigate. Nick stopped in the living room and crossed his arms, shaking his head, “I’m thinking it was a test from Pronge to see if she would show up with the kid.  Call Everett and Levinson.  See if there’s any movement at the docks.”

Bucky felt it in his bones though. 

Something was off. 

Something was wrong. 

4 pm-the estate

5 pm-the penthouse

6 pm-the mother

8 pm- I get my son and you walk away alive.

“Something’s missing Nick.”

“What are you talking about?”

“What happens at 7?”

“What?” he chuckled, “What are you talking about?”

At 4 he burned her estate to the ground, at 5 he bombed the penthouse.  At 6 he took her mother.  And at 8 he’s supposed to get his son back and she walks away.”

“Seven’s missing.”

“Seven’s missing,” Bucky repeated.  He looked around the room nervously, “Nick…I think we’re seven.”

“Fuck.”

Bucky pulled out his phone once again and realized that it was 6:59, “Shit!  Get out, NOW!”

The younger man dropped his phone and ran after Nick as fast as he could.  They’d made it to the door when a ‘dinging noise went off and a loud explosion was centered behind them.  Bucky pushed Nick out of the way and covered him as much as he could with his arm and his body. 

“If you didn’t push him and cover both of you, you both would have died, James,” Shuri pointed out.  Her hand reached out again, and she stroked her former lover’s cheek once more.  Only this time, Bucky leaned into it, “you are a far cry from my white wolf, James Barnes.”

“I’ll always be your white wolf, my queen.”

“You have gone soft.”

“Being a father will do that,” he reminded her.  She gave him a soft look and he kissed her palm, “I’d do it all again for you Shuri…every second.”

“I know, James.”

“I want to come home.”

“The Wakandans haven’t forgiven you…”

“Your father is dead,” he sighed, “your brother is in power.  They don’t need to forgive me…do they?  Just T’Challa.”  

“He hasn’t forgiven you fully,” she sighed in response, “it will be a long time until you are fully forgiven, James.  I was seventeen.”

“I gave it all to him,” he cried, his lip warbling at the thought of how he gave his entire empire up for the promise that her father would let her keep their children and continue to protect Shuri, “I told him that I would pledge my allegiance to him…”

“And that’s why I haven’t been married off!”

“One day, Shuri,” he promised softly, “I’ll find a way, my queen.  And I’ll make up for every second that I missed with you.  That I missed with our children.”

“T’Challa wanted me to give you this.”

Before Bucky could question it, she had moved out of the way, and a case was in his line of sight, “Wh-what’s this?”

She opened it, and revealed a sleek black and gold arm, “it’s vibranium…and it’s Wakandan.”

“I thought you said that they were mad at me,” Bucky said snarkily, “and that he hadn’t forgiven me.”

“T’Challa recognizes acts of power and compassion,” she reminded the father of her children, “he knows that you are trying, James.  He knows that you are a far better man than when we were together…he wants you to know that he sees that.”

“That’s why he let you come.”

She nodded, “yes.”

“But Kanarie and Te’Kai.”

“They know of you.”

“He still won’t let me see them.”

“Would you want our ten-year-olds to see you like this?”

Bucky frowned, “No.”

“You are allowed to come back to our estate with me though,” she offered, “he wants to talk to you after I fix your arm.”

Bucky’s breath hitched in his throat, “h-he does?”

“He does,” she confirmed hopefully, “about what, he refused to tell me…but let’s get your arm on and we’ll head to the estate…okay?  I’m sure that he’ll let you see them after you two talk.”

“Okay, Shuri.”

“And James?”

He looked at the mother of his children.  She looked tired, and he knew that it was largely in part to him.  She’d taken care of the twins without him once her father found out about her pregnancy.  He was lucky to evade death when he knocked her up, but not lucky enough to see her again. 

Her father had made sure that she kept the children as per his side of the promise, but Bucky was allowed nowhere near her.  The Wakandans blamed him for ruining the intelligent princesses’ purity and pushing away the suitor who wanted to marry her with his own selfish actions. 

But they weren’t selfish to him. 

He loved her since the first second he met her.  He begged her father for her hand in marriage.  But he’d rejected the idea, stating she had a suitor already.   But when the pregnancy was found out, he disappeared like dust in the wind.  Shuri hadn’t been promised to anyone since.

“Yes?”

She gave him a soft look.  The same soft look that she’d first given him the day she met him all those years ago when they were just two kids shadowing their parents.  The look that made him fall in love with her in the first place.  She leaned forward and Bucky’s eyes fluttered closed. 

Suddenly he was transported to back when they were younger, and Bucky had offered to give her a tour of the estate, but at the first corner they turned, she’d pushed him into a wall and their lips met. 

“Don’t do anything stupid, James…this is an olive branch!” she whispered softly.   Bucky moaned, pulling his lover back to his lips with his flesh hand.  She sighed contentedly against him as their lips worked in tandem. 

“I love you, Shuri…” the older man whispered.

“I love you too, James.”

She let go of his hand when they reached the estate, and it was like a piece of him became missing once more, “Shur-“

“Would you like to go in first?” she asked. 

Bucky bit his lip before reaching for the door.  To his shock he saw T’Challa already waiting there, and two ten year olds standing in front of him.  His heart ached as he noticed their silvery blue eyes and lighter skin tones.  His heart felt like it was about to give out. 

He hadn’t expected to see them waiting at the door for him. 

Shuri took his hand once more and Bucky looked at her with a shocked expression.

“You are forgiven of  your transgressions, Bucky Barnes,” T’Challa said firmly, “from this day forward, you are a Wakandan…and you shall take your rightful place in the family, with my sister’s hand.”

“Welcome home, white wolf…” Shuri said with tears in her eyes.  Bucky’s heart soared as he pulled her back to his chest, their lips meeting in a heated passion.

Shuri arches a brow.

Something about the way he says it — low and sharp, jaw clenched in irritation, hand gripping his cue so tightly that it bows under his strength — it makes her squirm in her seat.

Steve is competitive. She’s always known that about him. But she’s never seen him like this. The vein on the right side of his neck bulges a little bit as he groans in frustration at his terrible shot, and all Shuri wants to do is trace it with her tongue and suck his skin into her mouth. He would look so good with one of her hickeys marking his pale neck.

“Well,” Sam says with a sigh, leaning his pool stick against the wall, “I’m going to get a drink.” He pats Steve on the back before walking around the pool table. “Good game, or whatever,” he mutters to Bucky and Shuri. Shuri chuckles, bumping his shoulder with hers as he passes by.

Once Sam is out of earshot, Steve makes his way toward her and Bucky, arms crossed over his chest.

“Playing dirty, huh?” he murmurs, tilting his head.

Shuri tuts. “Don’t be a sore loser, Stevie, we won fair and square.”

Steve actually growls a little bit. Shuri can’t help the slight widening of her eyes and the sudden dampness between her thighs.

Competitive, irritated Steve is hot.

Bucky hums in thought. “Think we should give him a rematch, angel? Maybe we could let him and Sam win the next one, just out of courtesy.”

Steve shakes his head, the ghost of a smirk pulling at his lips. “Fuck you.”

“Not with that attitude,” Shuri quips.

Bucky laughs, then plants his lips to her temple. “Careful, I think he’s gettin’ a little testy.”

Before Shuri can answer, Riri calls her name. Shuri glances over to find her and Kate backing up toward the elevator. “Hey, we’re headed back downstairs to play another round. You in?”

Shuri grins. “Sure, why not?” She uncrosses her legs, making to step down from the bar stool when Bucky and Steve both reach out to grab each of her hands. “Thank you, boys. Looks like I’ll need a rain check on that rematch.”

“So you’re just disappearing on us?” Bucky asks, pouted lips turning downward ever so slightly.

“Just for one game.” She gently squeezes his arm, then turns to grab her phone and her clutch from the table. “And then I think I’ll be ready to go home.”

Bucky and Steve exchange a glance, excitement dancing in their eyes.

“Promise?” Steve asks, previous irritation forgotten.

Shuri winks. “Promise.”

Why the World Needed 'Wakanda Forever'

I have seen almost every Marvel movie in theaters on opening weekend.. and I have NEVER cried so hard and I have never felt SO CONNECTED to fellow movie-goers.

!!!! SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!

So before we get into the deep-dive, let's do a quick recap of the smash hit sequel. Also disclaimer: as I am drafting this post, I have only seen Wakanda Forever once on opening night - I will most likely see this again in theaters (and/or I'll definitely re-watch it once it drops on Disney+) so if I'm missing some parts in this first initial review/deep-dive I will revisit it in a later post!

All OG Marvel fans are aware of how meaningful the iconic Marvel Studios comic-film intro can be - and Wakanda Forever uses this at full force; the theatre is heavily quiet as montages of Chadwick roll within the letter formations, and we see what looks like newspaper articles repeating T'chala's name, announcing his death. The deafening silence contrasts the intro that was used to honor the passing of Stan Lee - which opened 'Captain Marvel.' At my theater, no one said a word during the intro, then many clapped respectfully as the sequence concluded. Shuri tries to gauge T'Chala's health status via the suit, and she says to her mother after the funeral "how could I have not detected an illness was killing him" - which alludes directly to Chadwick Boseman's death; he passed from terminal cancer and no one was even aware he had been battling it all these years. In the bird's-eye view of the city during the funeral procession, we see a mural of T'Chala on a tall city wall; it is eerily similar to the mural in [x] honoring George Floyd. The film skips ahead one year. The Queen and Shuri are on an isolated beach to burn their funeral attire - meant to symbolize the end of the grieving period and the need to move on - when Daddy Namore (sorry, Daddy? Sorry - he's so hot) approaches the women from the water and offers a deal - that Wakanda ally itself to Namore's kingdom of [x] against the other countries attempting to steal their vibranium, or they go to war.

This movie is needed by the WORLD on so many levels; for one, this film is fully embracing the privilege and opportunity it serves for representation. A lot of the filming takes place in Haiti and Peurto Rico - nations which tend to be represented poorly and stigmatized as impoverished third-world nations; to quote a TikToker who goes by the name of [x], the shots filmed in Haiti demonstrate beauty and dignity - rather than perpetuating a negative poor image. When I think if Haiti, for a long time the only thing I could think of was that terribly destructive hurricane back when I was in elementary school - I think we might've had a fundraiser/donation drive at school to help aid survivors. I had been taught and primed to think that Haiti was destroyed in that hurricane, and heard no other narrative. The same can be said for Peurto Rico - I'm a film connesiuer and I can't think of a single film that enlightened me about what PR is like; the only thing I know/affiliate PR with (prior to this movie at least) is that it's a good vacation spot - according to a friend who took a spring break there.

This movie also brings a blood-deep taboo conversation to the fore-front; race war. Unfortunately, despite the similarities amongst colonized minority cultures, war and violence are not immune - as a multi-racial person myself, I can attest that race war is not solely reserved to white Americans and Blacks.

This is the worst thing that's ever happened to you.

This is the worst thing that's ever happened to anyone. It's just the most horrible, dreadful, awful thing that could’ve ever happen to yo-

“Would you stop staring at him for fuck's sakes!” Natasha's hissed words make your eyes snap to her and finally away from the metal armed Supersoldier lifting weights. Shirtless.

You don't know when Bucky stopped feeling self-conscious enough to allow him to workout in nothing but a pair of gym shorts, but it has become literal torture for you.

Needless to say, Bucky's current level of undress is making it impossible for you to concentrate on the stretching you're supposed to be doing before your sparring match with Natasha.

But your very thoughtful and not at all exasperated friend makes sure to keep your attention on her during the entirety of our match by thoroughly kicking your ass.

What a lovely best friend you have.

Anyways.

Your entire mood shifts with one not intentionally overheard conversation. Steve enters the gym and goes straight to Bucky, who was putting his weight set down.

“She’s here!” Is all the blonde says to his friend and your heart stops at the way Bucky’s face lights up with a smile, not needing any more information before following Steve out of the gym.

She’s here? Who the fuck is she? Does Bucky have a girlfriend? And most importantly, she’s here? In the Compound?

Natasha can almost see the gears turning in your brain as you make no attempts to move from the mat after she knocked you on your ass for the hundredth time today. You didn’t even seem to notice her hand offering you help to get up, your eyes still looking where Bucky was just a moment ago, staring at nothing in particular while your brain drowns in your overthinking.

Natasha sighs and decides to end the match here, kneeling down in front of you and placing her hands on your shoulders, shaking you gently to snap you out of it.

“Don’t overthink this.” She tells you when she’s sure she has your attention. “It’s probably just a friend visiting.” She tries to comfort you, but you both know that’s highly unlikely. 

Bucky has no other friends outside the team. He doesn’t know how to talk to civilians anymore after everything he’s been through, and gave up trying to after the hundredth time he saw fear in a person���s eyes just by recognizing him. So his friend circle now includes the team and the agents of SHIELD that are not intimidated by him. Point is, every friend he has already lives in the Compound.

So who the fuck is here just to see him? 

Natasha can see that this is a lost battle, your eyes barely concentrating on her as you start drowning in your mind again. All she can do when you’re like this is try to distract you and keep you out of your head. So she takes your hand and helps you up, leading the way to the common room to watch one of your beloved romcoms together, because that’s how much she loves you.

Big mistake.

“Y/N! Y/N!” The excited high-pitched voice came just seconds after you set foot in the common room. And that’s about the only warning you got before the excited 5-year-old jumped on you, your reflexes thankfully quick enough to catch her.

“Hi, Maguna!” You say while chuckling as the little girl hugs you. “You seem excited today. Did you get into the sugar cabinet again?”

Morgan giggles at your joke and shakes her hand before taking your face in her little hands and dramatically saying, “No! A princess came to visit uncle Bucky! A real princess.”

You frown, confused at what she’s talking about, before you look around the room and finally notice everyone else in it. Pepper and Tony are on the couch, looking at you lovingly as you interact with their daughter.

You love Morgan, she’s like a little sister. You never miss an opportunity to babysit her and you spend as much time with her as you can. She also loves you, out of all the Avengers you’re her favorite, much to everyone’s dismay. She calls them all ‘aunt’ and ‘uncle’, but you’re just Y/N. You’re her big sister, you don’t need a title. Which is why you're the only one other than Tony allowed to call her 'Maguna'.

Then you notice the other people in the room: Steve, Bucky and… Shuri. The fucking Princess of Wakanda, standing in the common room of the Avengers Compound and just smiling at you as you carry Morgan.

You’ve never met Shuri, but you know she played an important part in deprogramming the Winter Soldier out of Bucky, and you’re grateful to her for it. She’s important to Bucky, and you can’t believe you forgot Bucky has Wakandan friends.

You put Morgan down on the ground again and the little girl takes your hand and aggressively steers you towards where Steve, Bucky and Shuri are standing, clearly thrilled to be in the presence of a real life princess.

“Hi, I’m Shuri.” She offers you her hand when you get close enough and you shake it with your free hand while introducing yourself.

There’s a bit of an awkward pause and you’re about to say the first thing that pops into your head when Morgan thankfully saves you by pulling on your hand, making you look at her. She tells you to come close and, chuckling, you kneel beside her so she can whisper conspiratorially in your ear.

“She’s a princess and she’s really pretty, but I still like you better.” She whispers and you can’t help but laugh.

God, you love this little girl.

You smile brightly at her and launch a tickle attack, her adorable giggles filling the room as everyone looks at you two with warm smiles.

Your attention is solely on Morgan, until you unintentionally hear the whispered conversation between Shuri and Bucky.

“So, this is the girl, huh? She’s pretty.” Shuri says and your heart skips a beat. 

You glance at them as discreetly as you can while still tickling Morgan, only to find Bucky looking at someone behind you. You turn around less carefully and see Sharon just entered the room, and she's also looking at Bucky with a smirk. You quickly return your attention to Morgan, but your mind is going a thousand miles a minute.

Of course he’d like someone more like Sharon. She’s pretty, she’s talented, she’s a total badass and she’s not afraid to go after what she wants.

She’s not a mass of anxiety in the shape of a woman that overthinks everything and becomes a flustered mess every time she’s even near Bucky.

It’s time to admit it to yourself: Bucky just doesn’t see you like that and you need to move on. 

Natasha is right, your obsession with Bucky needs to end.

What you don’t see is Bucky almost glaring at Sharon because he knows damn well why she’s smirking. She came in just before Shuri whispered to Bucky, when he was very intent on looking at you with heart eyes as you played with Morgan.

Just before you looked at him, Bucky noticed Sharon and he had to hold in a groan at her because he knows that she’s never gonna let him live this down.

Both Sharon and Steve have tried really hard to convince Bucky that you like him back and he should make a move on you. But Bucky, being as stubborn as they come, never believes them.

He obviously makes you uncomfortable, you’re always stuttering when he’s around and you avoid eye contact whenever possible. He’s just glad that you can stand his presence enough for the two of you to work together when necessary and to hang out with the rest of the team without problems.

So he just enjoys looking at you from a distance. He loves watching you play with Morgan and his thoughts always run wild with images of you playing like that with kids that are yours and his.

But he knows that’s never going to happen. Why would you like a damaged, PTSD ridden soldier that can’t even make it through the night without waking up from a nightmare? No, that’s definitely not your type.

Bucky accepts the truth: He doesn’t deserve you and you don’t see him like that anyways. 

It doesn’t matter that Sam thinks he’s obsessed, that won’t stop him from looking at you whenever he’s lucky enough to get a glimpse of his little ray of sunshine.

Do you think that if Steve had still had his shield he would have offered it for Bucky's arm?

Think about it-

The Wakandans were doing a huge favor for Bucky (and by extension- Steve). Neither Steve nor Bucky would want to take one of their resources -certainly not one as coveted as vibranium- for any reason.

But Bucky's HYDRA Arm was probably very heavy and likely hurt quite a bit. He may have tuned the pain out, but taking that arm off must have been a relief. Vibranium, however, is very light- the perfect material for a robotic limb.

So Steve probably would have offered the tiny bit of vibranium he had to keep Bucky comfortable, even if he had to destroy a national treasure to do so.

I wasn't going to post this. I waited to long to decide whether or not l was going to draw anything for new years. I went back and forth and then l decided to do it...l got too ambitious for the amount of time l gave myself...smh. My tired eyes missed so much...😬😩. I'm going to silence my inner critic and just enjoy the process and except whatever results l get.

AOD, All For You, Chapter 3

It was a scream that woke Bucky from his slumber.  He shot out of bed, hearing one of his little sisters screaming down the hall. 

“Rebecca!”

When he didn’t receive an answer he reached to his bedside table and reached for his piece.  But he hadn’t gotten both feet out of bed before his door was darkened by two slim figures. 

“Jamie!”

Bucky froze.  Rebecca was held in another woman’s tight grasp.  The silver glinting off of the moonlight that slipped from between his curtains.

“James Buchanan Barnes…you will come with us or the rest of your family will die!”

“They killed mom!” Rebecca whimpered, eyes glittering as she confessed what had already happened, “Jamie they hav-“

“We have your other sisters….” The woman said with a deadly tone, “But I cannot promise they will remain safe if you do not come with me!”

“Le-let them go!”

“You do not get to make the demands here, Mr. Barnes…I do!  And I’ve been commanded by the leader of the Wakandans to return with you, or the heads of all of you and your family.  I do not fail my missions.”

Bucky swallowed his nervousness and put his gun back on the bedside table before holding his hands up in the air, “I-I’ll do whatever you want…jus-just don’t hurt my sisters.”

“Jamie…”

“I’ll be okay okay, Bec…whe-when she lets you go, call Joe Rogers…he-he’ll take care of you and Win…an-“

“I do not have all night, Mr. Barnes!”

He nodded, showing that he was acknowledging the woman, “I’ve already told you I’ll come.  Jus-NO!”

Bucky launched himself out of his bed as the woman reached up and brought the butt of her knife against Rebecca’s skull.  The woman dropped her unceremoniously to the floor and gripped Bucky’s form over her own before straddling him.  Her knife was now at his throat. 

He looked worriedly back to his sister, “y-you said you wouldn’t hurt her!”

“I said nothing…she is alive…just unconscious, like your other sisters,” she said firmly, the silver blade pressing firmly into his throat, “now…in a few hours they will awake, and our business will be taken care of…until then…Mr. Barnes!”

Before he could question it, her knife withdrew from his neck, only for the butt to come in contact with his temple.  And he was out like a light.

Bucky groaned as the briefest splashes of light seemed to press against his eyelids.  He went to wave the light away by covering his face, but was surprised when he felt the restraints holding him back from it. 

He blinked a few times, trying to let his eyes adjust. 

The abandoned church that he’d recognized ever since he was a child came into view. 

But it wasn’t his father’s people that were there. 

Bucky felt his throat go dry as he looked at the leader of the Wakandans, “T’Chaka.”

“I was wondering when you’d wake up,” the older man frowned as he looked back to his guard, “I was starting to think Okoye had killed you…you wouldn’t be of much use to me then.”

“Wh-what are you doing to me?” Bucky asked slowly as he looked at his current predicament, “wh-why are we here?”

“This is where your father used to do business, yes?” he asked simply, “he would tie up the man or woman in question and wait for them to be repentant to the Barnes family…isn’t that correct?”

“Why are you here?”

He smirked, “I suppose I’m a believer in ironic justice…you see…you should be very repentant, James Buchanan Barnes…you crossed a line that you should have never even been near…”

Just before Bucky was about to question what he meant, he saw her, sitting in a pew, sobbing. 

“Shuri…”

“You do not get to address her!” the leader of the Wakandans hissed as he stormed over to Bucky.  He closed his fist and punched the younger man, snapping his head in the direction.

“FATHER PLEASE!” Shuri cried, standing from her pew.  Bucky spat out the blood that had accumulated in his mouth, and he looked back up to his now ex-girlfriend.  T’Challa had pulled Shuri back to sitting beside him. 

“What are you worried about?” Bucky spat, glaring at the older man, “she broke up with me…don’t have to worry about Shuri loving the broken white boy anymore…”

“You sullied my daughter…”

Bucky scoffed, “I wanted her to marry me…she broke up with me instead.”

“You cheated on her!” T’Challa hissed from his spot beside his sister.

“And now, she is pregnant with your spawn,” T’Chaka spat at the Barnes boy.  Bucky’s head snapped in Shuri’s direction once more, “and now none of my men want anything to do with her.”

“Shuri!” Bucky exclaimed, “ARE YOU PREGNANT?  Are WE pregnant?”

Shuri gave Bucky a pathetic look, before sobbing into her brother’s side.

T’Chaka grabbed Bucky by the chin and forced the younger man to look at him, “you did this to my daughter.  You disgraced her.  She should be married off to someone worthy bringing forth a possible leader of the Wakandans…and yet she was stuck with your seed!”

“I-I wanna marry her!” Bucky begged sadly, trying to look at Shuri.  T’Chaka stepped between the couple, blocking Bucky’s view of her, “Please.  I love Shuri.  I-I want a family with her.  I want the baby.  I love her!”

“You will do no such thing!” T’Chaka growled as he glared at the man, “you are only here to pay for your sins, Bucky Barnes…”

Bucky paled, his heart racing at the dangerous undertones in the man’s voice, “Wh-what?”
