ok no content/theories yet, just a general update of me and my delusions
assorted
ive got a hyyh video project in the works because my video production class let me pick what i wanted to do for the final. im tentatively piecing together the story chronologically according to the hyyh notes. unfortunately i am pretty bad at editing BUT we're going to see how it goes. if i like it i might upload it.
bc i like making my life simple, ive been using a google doc and compiling all of my thoughts and sources there. the main google doc is at least 15pgs long with 75% of it being hyperlinked to something, so I do have the content and the theory board but i keep changing my mind on my own timeline. I've done this at least 16 times and i suspect im gonna change ny mind even more since i havent even finished reading through year 22 of the hyyh notes. i have a few strong theories and some weak theories(/delusions/fanfic) about the overarching plot . hopefully i can piece things together enough to make sense
post planning:
complation post of all my evidence/sources
analysis posts for: i need u, prologue, run, epilogue young forever, bts universe game trailer
analysis/evidence collection post of the hyyh music videos (i need u, prologue, run, etc). ones that directly say hyyh basically
hyyh notes analysis (cause whoo boy is this baby complicated)
perhaps some character profiles (where i analyze their personality and what makes them them)
tldr: explained upcoming content & rambled abt a google doc

MIXED THEORY PART ONE
- It’s my opinion, it maybe right or wrong.
On Bangtan’s music video since day one is eventually part of the HYYH plotline. NO MORE DREAMS, who tackles about the youths who try to understand the adults but at the same time trying to do what they want. N.O, is about adults who force their desire and try to control the younger ones. BOY IN LUV, looks like where the boys experience the love for the first time in their life, but in my point of view, Jungkook was the first and most experience it for the first time. Now let’s all take a look at Danger MV where it tackles and shows a rage of a boy who just rejected or cheated by a girl he loves and War of Hormones where the boy is back in track and still head over heels to the girl.
Now let’s include their Concert teasers and VCRs. I don’t know I was confused at first THE RED BULLET TOUR was considered as an EPISODE I while BTS BEGINS was EPISODE II, then the WINGS TOUR was their last part of the trilogy and yes the whole plot inside this trilogy is also part of the HYYH or in short the whole BTS songs and message. Like argh it blows my mind while doing this. Anyway, let's get back in track. I re-watched all of their VCR in the said tours. I don’t know if the title just messed up because if we follow the release date and the title itself, it will really confuse. Nevertheless, if we will follow the storyline it makes sense despite of its title and date releases. THE RED BULLET TOUR shows the boys being rebelled and mad followed by THE BTS BEGINS where they show how the boys meet each other for the very first time and there’s a part of their VCR and teasers, that you can see SeokJin is still living in the word ‘be a good kid’ where he wears an earphone to listen to the principal. You can also picture out the room that the boys used to hang out that mention in the webtoon save me and the HYYH NOTES 1. While the WINGS TOUR is different but also includes in the plotline, I will tackle it later because it is one of the high lightened part.
After THE BTS BEGINS, BTS finally revealed the MV of I NEED U and the era or new chapter, HYYH begins. But there’s a twist, we all thought I NEED U was the beginning of their whole plot line. I also thought that but it’s not. I NEED U is one of the main part and one of the upside down of the story along with HYYH on stage: PROLOGUE where we can see the consequence and result of their life’s situation but at the same time they are refusing to see it. RUN and FIRE MV also show that the boys trying to find the feeling of being home with each other. EPILOGUE: YOUNG FOREVER, shows the boys finding it’s way out to the maze that represents their youth or their life situation.
Between the release of RUN and YOUNG FOREVER MV, I NEED U AND RUN JAPANESE MV released and still the scene inside those MV are play a big role.
After party effect shows in the SAVE ME MV, the message of these songs tackles how the boys finally waking up and the realization hits them that they need to save each other and themselves.
WINGS era came through, I can say that we can consider this as the most high lighten part. The WINGS Short Film from number one to seven, BEGINS, LIE, STIGMA, FIRST LOVE, REFLECTION, MAMA and AWAKE. We are all confused when they release this short films, there’s a lot of theory roaming around and mine was this: If we dissect all of their meaning and consider it part of the whole story line. This a self-reflected, it means that those messages inside is a part of themselves, words they cannot express, they show those scene to seek personal understanding. I will explain it as an individual point of view.
BEGINS: is about his love for his six Hyungs as Jungkook himself and it also his character inside the storyline.
LIE, the trauma of JIMIN that he witnessed when he was a kid inside the Grass Flower Arboretum. Where that crime take away his innocence that’s why he doesn’t want blood on his body just like his part at Highlight Reel.
STIGMA, Taehyung’s innocent and torment words inside about his abusive relationship with his father.
FIRST LOVE, a deep meaning of attachment of Yoongi in his mother’s piano. There is also a part of him that he blame himself from what happened to his mother.
REFLECTION, Namjoon being stuck inside the container. We also saw how he wanted to answer the phone, he knew Taehyung was calling him. In the storyline, we saw how they are really closed to each other. Namjoon is a big part of Taehyung’s life.
MAMA as Hoseok’s background story it’s about him seeking for attention. If you are going to read Hoseok’s notes in HYYH, he said that he was faking the narcolepsy and its true he has Munchausen syndrome. (According to webdmd, Munchausen syndrome is a factitious disorder, a mental disorder in which a person repeatedly and deliberately acts as if he or she has a physical or mental illness when he or she is not really sick. Munchausen syndrome is considered a mental illness because it is associated with severe emotional difficulties.) He did this to seek more attention, he is craving from it as he grows up inside the orphanage.
AWAKE, SeokJin played an important role here. At the beginning of the short film we can see him wearing an earphone again and this time he refused to listen to it, grabs the apple and drop it on the floor and his well-known camera is in there too. (I don’t want to tackle the symbolism here, I will explain it later on.) SeokJin was trying to show the effect to him the moment he centered himself to be a good kid. (I just explain this as an individual meaning of the short film not the meaning of the song. I will explain the partnering later on.)
All their solo tracks are connected with each other. First with Yoongi and Jungkook, they show the true brotherhood. Yoongi grow up without his mother care while Jungkook also crave for his father’s love. We can see the effect of a broken family to them. They seek each other’s love. Namjoon and Taehyung, even life is both hard for them, even poverty comes to their life, each other become their source of strength. In HYYH NOTE 1: Namjoon has a coworker or a friend that he called Taehyung. He said this young man has a similarity yet different from Taehyung, he thought maybe he just missed the true Taehyung. While Namjoon is struggling with his life to be breadwinner to his family and for his sick father, Taehyung has his own battle with his abusive father. HoSeok and Jimin, these two is emotionally attached to each other. From their illness to their past, both of them has a damaged childhood.

Like a Butterfly: The Struggle to Capture the Meaning of their Journey
We are finally starting to get into the bigger picture of this story, and I am so excited to delve into some of the more complicated concepts illustrated throughout BTS’s videos.
The first time we see the butterfly is in the Prologue video, where Jin catches it on film.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have already mentioned the butterfly in a previous post, and how Jin seemed confused by its existence. I’m gonna take a moment to just throw out some words that I want you to associate with the butterfly, because its meaning really is interwoven with a few other symbols I’m going to get into in a bit: innocence, fragility, elusiveness, delicate beauty, dreams and memories.
That last one might seem kinda off, but consider these lyrics from Run that also equate butterflies to dreams and memories:
“Memories are crumbling like dried flower leaves, on my fingertips and under my feet and behind my back, like chasing a butterfly or wandering in dreams, I follow your traces.”
So there is this idea of memories being fragile and crumbling too, and this elusiveness of something akin to a butterfly. It’s clear they are all reaching for something or chasing after something, but what that something is is pretty difficult to define. Perhaps it’s the path to healing that we discussed previously; maybe enlightenment; or maybe even Heaven or Nirvana.
Whatever it is, Jin is trying to ‘capture’ it through filming it. And he does this constantly. We almost always see him with a camera of some sort in his hands:
Tumblr media
It’s how he is first introduced in Prologue.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He even has it in Run.
Tumblr media
Jin is trying his best to capture these moments so that their memories don’t crumble away. He’s trying to document and preserve every moment he possibly can.
And the subject matter is important here, of course, because it’s specifically all of them that he is filming, most of the time. That might seem like an obvious statement. Just, bear with me while I try to put this into words.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are two things that Jin captures on film that are not any of the members: the butterfly, and the horizon.
Tumblr media
We are now going to play that word association game, but this time with the horizon: distant, untouched, perfect, unreachable, unattainable. Where the butterfly is elusive and difficult to catch, the horizon is straight up impossible to get to. And that is important, because it means Jin is trying to capture something impossible. Again, what that something really is could be a number of things, be it enlightenment or Heaven or Nirvana, but consider also the possibility of it being innocence.
Personally, I say it’s both. The butterfly, the representation of their innocence and their memories and dreams, their past which they are trying so hard to hold onto; and also the horizon, this unattainable goal they are trying desperately to reach, with no way of knowing how to actually get there. These symbols and concepts are intertwined.
Also, here are some more lyrics from Run just to kind of push this meaning a bit more:
“No matter how far I reach for you, it is just an empty dream... No matter how crazy I run, I remain on the same place.”
Jin’s fixation with pictures is obvious throughout Prologue especially, and the other members are following suit.
Tumblr media
Namjoon takes a picture of Jin and Yoongi at the gas station, and the three of them reminisce over the picture immediately.
Jungkook attempts to capture the horizon in his own way too, albeit temporarily.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Taehyung, however, does something different:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He has this picture of what I presume to be his father holding him as a baby. The ultimate representation of his innocence and his past, captured in this one photo, and he crumples it up. Taehyung is essentially doing the opposite of what Jin is doing. While Jin is trying his best to preserve all of their innocence in some grand effort to reach something unattainable, Taehyung has realized that he has lost his, that his past is something he will never be able to get back and it is completely behind him now, and he chooses to discard it.
In Run is where we first see Taehyung consciously attempt to undermine Jin’s efforts to ‘preserve’ what they have, and the two of them become opposing forces.
Tumblr media
Jin’s house of cards (heh) is another important symbol on their journey to wherever it is they are trying to get to (we’ll say enlightenment). He is trying to build a foundation for all of them, and Taehyung completely knocks it over as soon as Jin places the top two cards.
Tumblr media
Now, this is not Taehyung trying to keep them from reaching enlightenment or achieving their goals or what have you. Taehyung wants to reach that horizon just as much as the rest of them do. This is Taehyung rejecting Jin’s methods.
To Jin, the path to their enlightenment is through their past, through memories, through innocence. I would argue that Jin’s goal is probably more along the lines of reaching Heaven, in becoming the personification of goodness and purity and finding meaning to life and death in that goodness and purity.
Taehyung, I will show in a bit, has a different approach. The two of them have this tug-of-war style influence over the other members, and it begs the question: which of them is right? Who will the members ultimately follow?
The answer is actually pretty clear. You see, Jin’s house of cards cannot stand. It is made of something so flimsy and fragile that will inevitably fall, and yes Taehyung knocked it over immediately before it even had a chance to stand, but it doesn’t matter. It was going to fall.
We’re getting a little caught up in the metaphor here, so let’s take a small step back, or rather a closer look at what the cards mean.
Tumblr media
In the aftermath of the epic pillow fight in the freight car, Namjoon finds this card. We have this direct connection between the cards and the butterfly now, which lets us know that the meaning of the two are the same. So, Jin is trying to build this foundation on the idea of preserving innocence, yet innocence is so fragile and elusive that it becomes clear what he is trying to do is impossible.
Even though all of the Prologue video is of BTS playing together, happy and joyous and just so lovely and good, when Jin takes pictures of them he is trying to capture an innocence that simply isn’t truly there.
Namjoon is still attached to his own vices, as he still has that sucker in his mouth.
Tumblr media
Yoongi still has a silently terrifying fixation with fire.
Tumblr media
The point is, they aren’t as happy and pure and carefree as Jin might like to believe.
I’m gonna play that word association game one more time, this time to describe pictures: past, memories, still, unchanging, stagnant, inability to move forward. The only thing the pictures are able to amount to, given their nature, are memories. Memories crumble.
Tumblr media
Recall the elusive butterfly, how Jin attempted to preserve it on film in all its fragile perfection; recall the horizon, how Jin tried to capture it on a Polaroid despite how completely unattainable it is.
They all are trying to reach the horizon, whether consciously or not. They spend a good amount of time just near water, at the beach or on a pier, staring out at it, but unable to actually move towards it.
Tumblr media
In the Prologue video, we hear them sing the word, “Butterfly” twice: the first is when we see the actual butterfly that Jin is filming; the second is when Taehyung leaps off of the scafolding.
Tumblr media
While Jin does his best to capture the butterfly on film, this elusive thing that they are chasing after that represents their ultimate goal of enlightenment or Heaven or Nirvana or whatever it’s supposed to be, Taehyung essentially becomes the goddamn butterfly himself and takes a running leap off of this scaffolding toward the literal fucking horizon. He is making a grand effort at moving toward something, even if it’s so far away that it seems completely impossible to reach. Instead of just dwelling on it in pictures, like Jin, or staring out at it dreamily, like Jungkook, Taehyung is leaping towards it.
And of course, Jin is still filming even this. Because even now, while Taehyung is physically moving toward that impossible horizon, Jin is still trying to preserve everything.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ultimately, Taehyung, who crumpled up that picture of his father and him as a baby at the beginning of Prologue, reached the conclusion before anyone else that dwelling on the past, or trying to cling to an innocence that no longer exists, is futile. It does not help them to move forward. It is stagnant, and unchanging, and stuck, and it becomes frustrating for all of them.
Earlier I asked the question: Who, between Jin and Taehyung, will the other members ultimately decide to follow? We see evidence in future videos, namely Blood Sweat Tears, that shows us who it is, but I am actually going to pull the answer from the scene at the end of the Run video, the one after all of the credits.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first thing I want to acknowledge is the image of all seven of them with the truck in comparison to the photo, which is missing Jin. I know that some people have theorized that Jin is either the only member who is still alive, or that Jin is the only one of them who is dead, or that Jin is the only one who actually exists and all of the other members are all just in his head. This is my theory: Jin is just the one who took the picture.
I mean, it isn’t too far of a stretch when he’s been taking all of the pictures. Honestly, the important thing is that he isn’t in the photo itself. He was obviously present at the time, but the fact that he isn’t in the photo which is being burned is significant.
Now, consider that fire is a common symbol of rebirth, just as water is. The six of them are, in a way, being ‘reborn’ through Jimin’s burning of this photo. He is ridding them of this stagnancy that the picture embodies, even freeing them from it. The point is, the six of them are turning away from this idea of preserving innocence - which doesn’t truly exist with them - and Jin is not. Jin is not in the photo being burned, because he is still trying to cling to the past and to falsely perceived innocence and purity in a fragile effort to reach that horizon - their Heaven.
I appreciate that they decided to mirror Jimin’s own death scene from I Need U, burning the Polaroid while sitting in a bathtub. But I also wanted to point out an interesting connection between how difficult it is for Jin to accept his own loss or lack of innocence compared to the others, and their respective causes of death. I mentioned in one of the first posts how I believe each of the members died, but here’s a quick recap: Jin likely died of a fever, Namjoon of a drug overdose, Yoongi burned himself to death, Jimin attempted to drown himself, Hoseok overdosed on pills, Jungkook was hit by a car, and Taehyung ultimately committed suicide as well. All of them, except for Jin, had a hand in causing their own deaths, including Jungkook who stepped out in front of traffic and simply didn’t care to move out of the way of an oncoming car. Jin, on the other hand, could not control being sick.
Because of this, all of the others, more or less, had already lost their innocence at the time of their deaths, because they did that to themselves. Taehyung lost his innocence even before, because he killed a man. He not only caused his own death, he caused somebody else’s too. And I think this difference in experience is what made it so difficult for Jin to embark down that same path that the others were already headed down.
He does get there eventually. But it takes some work.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are from their Epilogue: Young Forever. I believe this video is intended to be the last in the series, as far as chronology.
To sum up, the butterfly represents the elusive concepts that they are trying to capture - crumbling memories they want to hold onto, happiness and innocence they want to preserve, an unattainable horizon or destination they want to reach, the entire meaning of their journey. Jin and Taehyung are established early on as opposing forces in their efforts to reach this goal, as Jin tries to guide them away from pain and darkness and toward light and happiness while Taehyung faces death and destruction head on. By the end of Run, it is clear that the others have shifted from Jin’s influence to Taehyung’s, as they are also facing their deaths and causing destruction as they still struggle to find their purpose.

What is your favourite bts song from each of their albums?
Hi dear, thanks for this question, i was having a really boring day at work at it was nice!
This was really hard, but here it goes:
long post ahead
2 COOL 4 SKOOL: NO MORE DREAM
Thats kinda cliche, but it was their debut song, and the first song I listened from them.
What is the you that you’ve dreamed of?Who do you see in the mirror? I gotta sayGo on your pathEven if you live for a dayDo somethingPut away your weakness
O!RUL8,2?: COFFEE
I love this lyrics so much! The song itself is calm and soft but also kinda bittersweet.
Our first date was sweet like a caramel macchiatoWherever we went, we wanted to go togetherBut as time went by,those feelings went down like dripping down espressoMy insides ache for no reason, we used to be so goodBreaking up was like a bitter americano
SKOOL LUV AFFAIR: TOMORROW
Last year I had a lot in my mind, I couldn’t find a job and everything was a mess, and then i listened to this song, as in, i really LISTENED, and it was like everything I was feeling and couldn’t say they expressed perfectly. It’s a really important song for me.
I have a long way to go butwhy am I running in place?I scream out of frustrationbut the empty air echoesI hope tomorrow willbe different from todayI’m just wishing
WAKE UP: THE STARS
This is the kind of song I need to listen once in a while, but tbh I haven’t listened to this in a while haha (idk if this is good or not tho)
Even if there are times when you feel discouraged, it’s not meaninglessEven if you’re in the last place now, if you have a dream you’re not
DARK&WILD: RAIN
I usually like walking around in rainy days because their great days to organize my thoughts, and this song express this really well. I love putting my earphones and listening this song when I feel blue.
The rain stops and the reflection in the puddleI see myself looking more miserable today
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL MOMENT IN LIFE, PART 1: I NEED U
I’ve never been in love like this, so I could never really relate my own feelings to the lyrics, which makes it even more crazy because it’s like I’m in pain, I’m feeling that dispair of being in a relationship that its not worth it. I also love the beat SO MUCH, and of course, this is where all the theories started!
Girl, just tell me you wanna break upGirl, just tell me it wasn’t loveI have no courage to say thatGive me my last giftSo I can’t ever go back to you
+ MOVING ON (이사)
I can’t not talk about this song, because it makes me so emotional. The lyrics are insanally personal, and it as the first time I felt closer to the boys.
While taking the last box out of the empty roomI looked back for a momentTimes we cried and laughedGoodbye now
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL MOMENT IN LIFE, PART 2: RUN
I could be one of those cool kids who only like the songs that aren’t really “appreciated” but honestly I just love this song, and part of this was because of the MV too. Of course we have no idea of what’s going on in this history they’re trying to tell us and the theories are insane at this point but this song is just amazing, i also love the japanese version!
You are my only sun, one and only in the worldI bloomed for you, but I’m still getting thirsty
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL MOMENT IN LIFE YOUNG FOREVER: EPILOGUE: YOUNG FOREVER
OT but I remember it came out in my mom’s birthday in that year lol
This song is amazing, I’m sad that it’s so short, I could (puns aside) listen to this forever. Its beautiful, and I especially like the unplugged version!
Trying to comfort myselfI tell myself the world can’t be perfectI start to let myself goThe thundering applause, I can’t own it forever
YOUTH: WISHING ON A STAR
I don’t have much to say about this song, I just love it because it makes me so soft haha it’s really sweet.
As long as you have a dream, you don’t have to worryIf you believe, it’ll shineThe pearl of the future, right right alrightIf you’re tired, you can rest while continuing to move forward
WINGS: 2!3!
This is really hard because here we have solo songs and each of them has it’s own meaning, I especially love Lie and Awake (I cried a lot listening Awake too) but this song is special because I still remember how I felt when I first listened to this. It was the day they released WINGS, and I was listening all the songs for the first time and reading the lyrics, this whole album itself is a roller coaster in the best way, and then when it came to this song I was reading the lyrics when I suddenly couldnt read anymore because my eyes were full of tears. I didn’t know why I was in pain, but I was and it was like this seven boys who I never met knew about my pain and wanted to help.
Still, I hope there will be good daysIf you believe me, 1, 2, 3
YOU NEVER WALK ALONE: SPRING DAY
I don’t think this is surprising, this song is so delicate and honestly sad. They showed their emotions really well in this, all those bittersweet feelings when the song ends. i love thiis song a lot.
How much more do I have to wait? How many more nights do I have to stay up?Until I can see you?
LOVE YOURSELF: HER: 고민보다 GO
Although I love Serendipity and Jimin’s voice (wich made everything more soft and pure) I relate to Go the most. My previous favorite songs were always sad somehow and this song and dance is just fun, but at the same time it talks about soemething serious.
Just break it apartWe’re too young to just worryFor today, just go instead of worryingIf you get scared and say you’re saving, it becomes poopSo rub it all around
+ BONUS TRACK: SEA
Oh, how I cried my eyes out listening to this. I cry a lot and this is not a surprise but holy fuck, this song is good! I listened to this a lot in my last summer vacation while walking in the beach, it helped a lot!
In the end, we reached the mirageAnd it became our realityThe scary desertBecame the ocean with our blood, sweat and tearsBut why is there this fearIn between the happiness?Because we know too well that this place is really a desert
FACE YOURSELF: DONT LEAVE ME
I don’t really relate to the lyrics but oh my god, the vocals are insane. It’s the kind of music I would use for a soundtrack of something really emotinal and strong.
If only I could rewind time and start over                                                                 You cry between the shadow and light
LOVE YOURSELF TEAR: SO WHAT
This was harder because I’m still listening to this album a lot and discovering about how each song makes me feel. I have a soft spot for Paradise and Magic Shop too, but so what is the song that I can relate myself in this moment of my life, just as 2!3! in 2016
Even if it’s dangerous on the borderLet’s just laugh and chat and split through the windSometimes, we can be foolish and just runEven with mistakes and tears, we just go

Note
New BTS fan here and so I apologise for my complete ignorance. What was the era prior to Wings? Also, the concert was called Trilogy Episode 3? I need someone to break down the meaning behind this D:
First of all, welcome to the fandom! You’re in for an amazing and wild ride. :’) And no worries! It can be a little bit confusing and it takes us all a while to figure out what’s going on…and when it comes to all of the theories involved behind bts eras and the fandom trying to link them together, we still don’t really have a clue what is going on, lol. But before that you can get the basics of the eras down first. This got pretty lengthy so I’m gonna put it under a cut!
Beyond having each individual era in terms of the singles/albums they release, the albums are part of bigger eras as well, and the concerts, even more so. I’ll give you the major theme era, the album eras within them, and furthermore the single eras within those. The first overarching era started from bts’ debut in 2013 until 2014 and is known as the ‘School Era’. This is comprised of:• 2 Cool For Skool Single Album      -> No More Dream      -> We Are Bulletproof Pt 2 • O!RUL8,2? Mini Album      -> N.O• Skool Luv Affair Mini Album (& Repackage Ver.)      -> Boy in Luv      -> Just One Day• Dark & Wild Studio Album       -> Danger      -> War of HormoneFollowing this is when bts slowly started to become more recognized as a competitor to the Korean music scene and really started to create a name for themselves. A lot of new people joined the fandom during this time and it’s overall just a very sentimental and emotional era. This next major overarching era is thus a sort of pride and joy of the fandom, “HYYH” (The Most Beautiful Moment in Life/In The Mood For Love) or “Youth” era, lasting from early 2015 to mid 2016.• The Most Beautiful Moment in Life pt 1 Mini Album      -> I Need U      -> Dope• The Most Beautiful Moment in Life pt 2 Mini Album      -> Run• The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: Young Forever Compilation/Repackage Album      -> Epilogue: Young Forever      -> Fire      -> Save MeNext, we have WINGS era! This is the era that is sadly coming to an end with this last run of Wings concerts in Seoul, although it’s probably a bit confusing for you as it’s overlapping with the start of Love Yourself era. WINGS era goes from late 2016 to early 2017. They spent the majority of the year on a world tour for WINGS, and just did a last final hurrah in Seoul to close it out properly.• WINGS Studio Album      -> Blood Sweat & Tears• You Never Walk Alone Repackage Album      -> Spring Day      -> Not TodayThe current era is Love Yourself. This is going to a part of a bigger 4-part series that bts will focus on in the coming year, and likely beyond. We were teased with this era with the release of the ‘Highlight Reels’ back in August, and although not directly related to the albums themselves, this is a thematic story line said to carry through until next year. There will be four albums in the Love Yourself series and Namjoon has specified that they won’t come in order. There is still a lot we are trying to decipher here, as it’s what ARMY does best. I will link you to this post as it does a great job at laying out what might be the general outline of the LY series. (The ‘Boy Meets WHAT’ that the op is referring to is at end of the Fire/Save Me music videos).
• Love Yourself 承 Her mini album      -> DNA      -> Mic DropAnd that brings us to now! I didn’t include Japanese releases here but they fit quite well into the eras of their Korean counterparts. Especially from HYYH era and on, you will start to be able to link a lot of things together, and your mind will be blown at how much things seem to be planned out from a long time ago, as you will find that many older MVs came to foreshadow what happens in later ones. I won’t go into theories here but there are a lot of long posts on tumblr or videos on youtube that you can search for if you want to try and wrap your head around it all.As for your last question about the concerts, bts has done a series of tours over the last few years and regards them as a trilogy. As per typical bts/bighit etiquette, nothing can ever be simple to understand or in order. The trilogy consists of:• Episode II: The Red Bullet Tour (2014)• Episode I: BTS Begins (2015)• Episode III: Wings Tour (2017)If you watch the concert dvds, and the VCRs in particular, you will see a story line being carried out. Red Bullet drops us in the middle of such a story and creates an interest for both explanation of how it got to that point and what comes next, thus Episode II is first. Think of Episode I as a sort of prequel, and Episode III as an ending. As to what they will do for the next round of concerts, I have no idea, but albeit being a new series/era, there always seems to be some way we can link it back to what has previously been done.Sorry for the super long post but I wanted to be as clear as possible! I hope it helped and let me know if you have any other questions. :)

*peeks from behind curtain* here’s a big theory mv/video runthrough for bts
NO MORE DREAM
They’re only kids. They want to advance in the world and show others that despite not having a formidable dream, they still have their motivations to continue on.
WE ARE BULLETPROOF PT. 2
They’re hardcore and tough. They know how to handle everything that comes their way and they’re not afraid of failure or breaking down.
N.O.
Education systems are holding them back. They’re being brainwashed and they have to fight back in order to continue on with their lives and keep their motivation to find their calling.
BOY IN LUV
Throughout their young lives, they start to love. They don’t know how to approach it nor do they know how to love, but they try and they confess that despite being hard-shelled, they have feelings.
JUST ONE DAY
After showing that, they show how to express it. By opening themselves up and allowing themselves to go out with that person and love them if only for a small amount of time.
NO MORE DREAM JAP.
While still opening up, they don’t ignore that they have their motivations. They still want to continue on and keep moving forward in their lives.
BOY IN LUV JAP.
As if trying to show the person they love this, they try to express that even though they have motivations, they still don’t forget that the person they love is part of their lives and that they don’t want them to drift away.
DANGER
They’re hurt. The person they love won’t talk to them or respond to them. They feel incredibly down and believe that they’re being ignored and they don’t understand what they did wrong.
WAR OF HORMONE
In light of being hurt, they go out and continue on with liking other people. They come at it with a different, more direct approach, and try to express that they still love the person, yet their efforts are still in vain.
DANGER JAP.
The person they love still won’t pay attention, and so they stop paying attention to that person. They go back to each other and show that they don’t need someone who doesn’t care enough to talk to or love them.
I NEED U
They’ve broken down. Despite breaking everything off, they become destructive in their lives. They hurt themselves or get hurt by others and can’t find it in themselves to bring back the motivation they once had.
FOR YOU JAP.
They recover, somewhat. The person they love is far away and they exchange letters and pleasantries and find ways to still communicate until they can meet up again and discuss what happened.
DOPE
They’ve advanced in life. They have jobs they love and lives they’re proud to lead, and they won’t let that slip by. They’ve overcome some of the pain and are happy with where they are.
RUN
They have each other. They spend their days together instead of with someone they love, and where they are now, they find that they have each other to rely on and love instead.
I NEED U JAP.
They still remember that person they loved. It still resides how much pain they went through and how much it had hurt, and that won’t fade for a long time.
RUN JAP.
They reminisce on themselves. They feel everything they have together, but it bleeds into their love for that one person and it hurts despite that they have each other.
EPILOGUE: YOUNG FOREVER
They have to stay together. They’ve been separated by the bleeding and have to come back together and remind themselves that they shouldn’t have walked away and ignored the cries for help their friends have made.
FIRE
They burn it all. They get rid of the pain by destroying it. They forgive the person who hurt them and continue on with their lives.
SAVE ME
They feel somewhat as if they shouldn’t have destroyed everything because there’s no way to recover it now. In that fit of hurt, they need that person to come back to help them remember before they forget it all.
BEGIN
Jeongguk knows his friends are hurting, and it hurts him. He doesn’t feel much for himself unless his hyungs are in pain, which puts him into pain.
LIE
Jimin feels like he’s been betrayed by who he loved. Despite how wonderful they were, he feels hurt and doesn’t want anything to do with the pain and wishes it would go away.
STIGMA
Taehyung finds himself thinking to how much he hurt. How much pain he’d gone through and hopes dearly that, for all his wrongdoings, he’ll be punished and forgiven because he regrets many of the things he’s done.
FIRST LOVE
Yoongi thinks to his music, where he began and where his motivation lay in the first place, and reminds himself that despite everything, he has music to turn to and rely on.
REFLECTION
Namjoon blames himself. He hates himself and wishes dearly that he could move past that. That everything is simply a story to be played out and he wishes his would end well.
MAMA
Hoseok thanks his mother. He’s pushed through everything in his life and hopes that now his mother can be proud of him and his accomplishments, and that she can ask him for help instead of the other way around.
AWAKE
Seokjin feels as if he can’t advance through like all his friends, and that he’s being held down by everything. It hurts and he isn’t sure if he’ll ever be able to overcome his failures and feelings.
BOY MEETS EVIL
Hoseok still feels for who he loved. They’ve drawn him in and he hates them for it, but it’s hard to walk away and not feel a thing.
BLOOD SWEAT TEARS
They want that person to just take everything they’ve done away. They’ve worked so hard to keep them and love them and if their efforts are in vain, they want that person to take their efforts to the last drop because they can’t keep moving forward with no reciprocation.
SPRING DAY
There are two versions to every story. They’ve moved on and they attempt to continue, and yet they still have those feelings deep down inside themselves. They do things they would do when they were younger and go back to the places they’ve been to before together.
NOT TODAY
Despite everything, they find their motivation again. They will break through this pain and hurt and survive it, and yet, they’ll still watch each other fall at times.
BLOOD SWEAT TEARS JAP.
They begin to hurt each other. They can find no other alternative and despite all the time that’s passed with helping each other, at times, they hurt each other when they feel wronged.
LOVE_YOURSELF HIGHLIGHT REEL
Everyone has moved on. They keep in touch, at points, and sometimes catch glimpses of each other in daily life. Jeongguk recovers in the hospital from his accident, Taehyung continues with his rebellion, Jimin hides in Hoseok’s shadow, Namjoon reminisces on memories, Hoseok pursues his dancing, and Yoongi tries to be a better person. Seokjin keeps away from them all, wondering day after day if they could ever rid themselves of all the pain they’d gone through, if he could turn back time and fix everything so they didn’t feel so much pain. However, in the end, they realise that, despite all the pain, past or current, everyone’s survived, and everyone will continue to survive and find love in themselves, even when they don’t have each other.
SERENDIPITY
In the midst of everything, Jimin has completely moved on from his pain, instead looking for a unique love that he can cherish and keep, so long as the person he loves will let him in and let him love.
DNA
In the process of loving themselves, they can come to the conclusion that this is a fate to be trusted, and that their DNA was bound to find their other half and the people in their lives, and that loving themselves led them here.

Hi! I'm new to BTS, discovered them when Not Today came out. I haven't fully caught up on previous eras, like I haven't read all the theories and details, and I'm a little confused about the next one. Like how does all of this work? Is there always a story to decipher? Is there a guide or explanation videos to follow somewhere? Thanks!
hi, hello!!! welcome to the fandom!! 🌸🌸
so i know joining after the initial start of all this theory stuff is a little daunting, so i’ll try and break it down as best i can lol.  (warning: it ended up being a lot anyway oops)
also, if anyone who reads this wants to reblog and add something i missed, expand in your own words or add your own theory, please do so!!!
(theory’s and timeline under the cut)
HYYH ERA
so all of these theories stem from the start of the HwaYeong YeonHwa era, (though there are also theories that this has been planned even since their debut, but idk about that), which has three albums and four videos that are connected within the era, and the idea and inspiration for this is ‘youth’ and how youth can be considered ‘the most beautiful moment in life’.
all of these videos are meant to be watched in a certain order (i need u - prologue - run - epilogue: young forever)
the most beautiful moment in life pt.1 album
so there are two mvs for I Need U: the (15+) ver. & the original ver.. The original version has more detail and more clues to the story.
the most beautiful moment in life pt. 2 album
prologue vid, (which gives samples of the song ‘Butterfly’ from pt. 2, and gives more extension to the stories in I Need U)
run mv
the most beautiful moment in life: young forever album
epilogue: young forever mv
i’m also throwing in the japanese ver. of these mvs because they also have clues and details to the storyline:
i need u, japanese ver.
run, japanese ver.
so there are lot of theories from this based on the storyline so far - some of the most prominent ones are that only jin is dead or that jin is the only one alive.
now pay attention to the pairings in the mvs: yoongi & jungkook, jimin and hoseok, namjoon and taehyung, and seokjin is by himself. this is important and will continue to show up in other videos.
(now to the next era, where we get more clues and ideas but also more confusion lol)
WINGS ERA
at the start of this era, we were given 7 short films for each member, all titled with the same name as their solo on the album wings. this era was based heavily off the book demian by hermann hesse, and at the beginning of each short film a small excerpt from the book is read by namjoon, as well as there are excerpts in the boy meets evil trailer and in the middle of the blood sweat and tears mv. the ideas behind this era were temptation and growth.
-wings album-
jungkook - begin
jimin - lie
taehyung - stigma
yoongi - first love
namjoon - reflection
hoseok - mama
seokjin - awake
and then the trailer for the album was released, titled boy meets evil, which was alluded to in both the fire and save me mvs (at the end of each there was a screen that read boy meets ___)
boy meets evil
then the mv for blood sweat and tears was released
blood sweat and tears
(im going to cheat a little by including the japanese mv of blood sweat & tears here, even though it was released after YNWA, it has heavy connections to the kor. version)
blood sweat and tears, japanese. ver
so here are some more theories for this era, which one idea is the concept of the butterfly effect, or the idea that even small choices and actions have the ability to change everything:
‘demian’ connection theory: 1 | 2
wings short film theory: x
bs&t theory: x ; japanese ver. theory: x
-wings: you never walk alone album-
now the repackaged album had two titles, ‘spring day’ and ‘not today’. and has a separate idea from the full album. the idea behind this one is pretty self explanatory. ‘spring day’ is thought to be based off the short story the ones who walk away from omelas, (description)
spring day mv
not today mv
the theories:
spring day theory: x (mentions omelas, how the mv could allude to the sewol ferry tragedy, along with depression & suicide, but also hope.)
another spring day theory: x (after separating and dealing with their own troubles and tragedies, they meet again, also following the ‘you never walk alone’ idea)
( the idea behind ‘not today’ is about never giving up, and that you gain strength from being together and fighting the tough times together (eng, lyrics))
not today theory: x
now to the theories for the recent posters
LOVE YOURSELF?
so the past three days, bighit has released posters for their ‘love yourself’ films, starring each of the boys.
first they released solo posters for each of the boys, each with a different quote on the poster.
jungkook poster
yoongi poster
jimin poster
namjoon poster
taehyung poster
hoseok poster
seokjin poster
then today the released the pairing posters (jk&yg, jm&hs, nj&tae), and the three posters each had the same quote on it: ‘after returning from the sea, we were all alone’, (trans. @allforbts) which is thought to refer back to the prologue where they were on the beach with each other, and happy, but how when they left and were alone, they were sad.
seokjin’s poster was labeled with a different tagline: ‘If I could turn back time, I want to go back to the sea of that summer ‘ (x) which also refers back to when he was at the beach and ended up being the only one left there.
(i’ve also already seen theories that perhaps the coloring differences on the pairing posters is significant, since one person is lit well and the other is dark and dimmer)
so today (8/13) bighit decided to drop another thing on us!! jin’s note (trans. @ktaebwi) from hyyh, which has many many references to the videos from that era, but also mentions jin fighting tae, which can be seen in the japanese ver. of bs&t. it kind of tells us a little of what happened to them, but also creates more questions. (like how it mentions what happened to jungkook, what happened between namjoon, seokjin and taehyung, mentions how hoseok called jin to tell him jungkook had been hit, but doesn’t talk about yoongi or jimin specifically by name. hm)
so that’s it for now. obvs im sure there are a million other theories and stuff that could go along with these storylines, but i tried to keep it as minimal as possible,
i’m very sorry if this is a lot (i know it is) and is hard to keep up with. but fear not, once you get it all its pretty easy to make connections yourself once you’re more informed on whats happened so far.
thanks for the ask; sorry my reply took so long. :)

Well as always I was doing a BTS Marathon.
When I start watching EPILOGUE: Young Forever I saw this;
Tumblr media
Seems familiar, isn't it? Now let's look at DNA,
Tumblr media
THIS!
There were theories about this "eye thing" like "god of eye" or "eye of god" or whatever it was maybe this can be a proof to theory.

Updates-WIPS
Tumblr media
this is the updates and wips page. updates are those that i have already completed and are scheduled. wips are the works that i have in progress. i may work on several pieces at the same time.
will update the respective masterlists accordingly, the dates will change in the masterlist when updated.
please do note that the dates are estimated and may not be followed. will try my best to adhere to it. some of the wips do not have dates because i, myself, am not too sure when will it be done or when will have time to do.
they are categorised based on analysis, translations and wfr ( fic recs ) for easier reference. do note that for fic recs, there is no fixed number of fics, but it'll be a minimum of 8.
note: will remove those under the latest after a week has passed.
thank you again for enjoying my content. 🌊

BTS Timelines-Highlight Reel Theory!!
Okay so, i'm going with the theory that Jin is a time traveler because honestly it's kinda canon already. so, in the third reel, the vase is down and in the final one he saves it before it can fall. There are 7 flowers inside. That could represent the boys themselves and how Jin saves them before they can fall down, thus time traveling for it to happen. Now, I'm gonna go into the timelines. Obviously, The Prologue happened first. Everything in The Prologue happened first, except from the first and last scene. In the first scene, Tae is covered in blood, calling his Hyung. The last scene is when he jumps. Next is Run. That's when their friendship begins to break. We see them fighting, vandalizing, "breaking" in general. it's filled with happy moments of them being together and that acts as an illusion to us that maybe everything is good. Then, Blood Sweat & Tears the Japanese Version happens. This is the moment everything goes to hell. The fight between Jin and Tae happens. We see the aftermath, Tae runs away, Jin is sorry but he can't to anything, Namjoon has the scars in his hands like The Notes described. Finally, we have I Need U. It's the aftermath. Everyone is broken, trying to cope with themselves, but no one can. They turn to suicide(attempted) , crime, even murder in Tae's case(justified, but still murder.) Then we have Wings. For me, Wings is like their inner thoughts, paired with real events. Jimin and Hoseok went to therapy. Hoseok got better, Jimin not so much. Everyone else's short film is their inner struggle.  Kookie is remembering the car accident and he remembers Yoongi but he doesn’t know who Yoongi is because apart from breaking his legs, he lost his memory as well. Yoongi remembers the accident as well, because a) Kookie pushed him out of the way and got hit instead or b) he was the one in the car, drunk and the one to hit Kookie. The Highlight Reel is the present. Everyone is trying to move on, find love, but they can't cause they aren't together. Jin's girl dies in a car accident and he's so heartbroken he begs time to be erased, for everything to happen again, to save his friends. And maybe, he does. In Blood sweat and tears  Japanese version he visits namjoon in the gas station saying "it's being a while."  Maybe the time travel has already happened and he is starting to save them and maybe the actual comeback is the aftermath of it all. Cute and colorful, all seven of them together. And finally, we have Epilogue Young Forever. I feel like this is in the future. They are together again, happy, probably still scarred, but together.

We’re not a blog that is dedicated to reviewing music (including Kpop), but because we absolutely adore BTS and their music, we decided to do a memo-style review of the Music Video (MV) for their Japanese Version “Blood, Sweat & Tears” (血、汗、涙 -Japanese Ver.-).
***Note: If this is your first time browsing the Drama Files, please read The Rules on how our Memo-style reviews work.***
***Note: We really wanted to analyze the Blood, Sweat, Tears Korean MV before, but we missed out on the opportunity. We thought this MV was very interesting as well, so we were really eager to share our theories about what they could possibly signify. There are definitely many theories, so we thought we’d propose ours. Our views are simply theories and purely speculative.***
Memo
Dear Reader,
There have been some questions regarding the recent release of BTS’s 血、汗、涙 -Japanese Ver.- (“BST”), particularly:
(1) Who/What does each member represent?
(2) How is the ending clip that is reminiscient of the “I Need U” MV connected to BST?
Conclusion
(1.1) J-Hope acts as a guide. J-Hope is Archangel Michael and Frau Eva from Demian.
(2) This will be answered in a subsequent Memo.
Background
Jubiemon J: I will first start by setting the background that leads to the analysis of the characters. Please bear with me! Through BST, we see two predominant influences: the Bible in particular The Fall of the Rebel Angels by Pieter Bruegel the Elder and Demian. The Fall of the Rebel Angels is based on the passage from the Book of Revelation. This passage highlights the confrontation between Good and Evil, before the Fall of Man. Archangel Michael forces Lucifer to leave heaven based on God’s Orders and as a result, there is the fall of other rebel angels (See here for the actual text).
The main themes in BST, as a result, are adulthood and temptation/sin. (I write it as temptation/sin because I believe they go hand in hand. Each member is tempted by something sinful.) The lyrics of BST highly emphasize temptation; the chorus is: I want more, more, more. Given this context, we can see how each member, except for J-Hope and maybe Suga, face temptation and from these struggles, they are forced to eventually grow up and mature into an adult. I will go through each character from a biblical point of view (POV) and then from the perspective based on Demian.
When the MV has a blend of neon colours, we are safe to assume that this is a time of war/temptation/animus and that we are in the internal reality.
Tumblr media
This is after Jungkook drank the green liquid; Look at the neon vibes.
When the MV is in an everyday type of light and the setting is still in a Victorian vibe, this seems to imply that we are looking deeper within ourselves.
Tumblr media
Jimin is trapped in this room.
When the MV is filmed with an everyday light but the setting is modern, then that is reality in a distant past.
Tumblr media
Jin is hitting V and V is retaliating. Look at the modern kitchen and their clothes.
When the MV is filmed with a slightly brown light that gives a nostalgic vibe, then that is the present reality.
Tumblr media
Look at this brownish tint. Mostly only Jin shows up for these type of scenes.
I also think it’s important to establish where BST chronologically fits among BTS’ MVs to understand who each member represents. I rewatched almost all of the MVs and I think the ones that are related to BST are the Korean “BST”, “I Need U”, “Run”, the BTS 화양연화 On Stage Prologue MV, and “EPILOGUE: Young Forever”. (I consider “Spring Day” another story by itself. Feel free to read our analysis of it to understand why that is so.)
The chronology of the story, in my view, is:
1. “I Need U”
2. “Run”/the BTS 화양연화 On Stage Prologue MV/Korean BST
4. “BST”
5. “EPILOGUE: Young Forever”
I think we can divide the MVs into external reality and inner reality (aka psychical reality). “I Need U”, “Run”, and the BTS 화양연화 On Stage Prologue MV focus on the external reality (The BTS 화양연화 On Stage Prologue MV does have psychical reality, but I think it’s more like a memory playback.) The other three MVs represent the psychical reality. The way they are filmed is different from the former three.
The starting point of the boys’ story would be “I Need U”. That is when we are introduced to all of the boys’ problems (eg V struggling with his broken family, J-Hope battling what’s likely a mental health problem, etc). We end this song with V killing his father to save his sister.
Next is “Run” where we see V fall back into the water, meaning that he has succumbed to darkness. He also leads the boys into mishaps and they all play pranks or do some petty crime together.
In the end, we find that Jimin is in a tub, burning a group photo of them. All of them have changed or matured and there’s no turning back now. I placed BTS 화양연화 On Stage Prologue MV with “Run” because I see the BTS 화양연화 On Stage Prologue MV as a time where V is reminiscing about the past.
Then we move into the psychical reality. We see in the Korean BST how the characters are struggling internally. Chronologically speaking, I think the Korean BST happens around the same time as “Run” and the BTS 화양연화 On Stage Prologue MV. As the boys are changing and being led by V for the external reality, the inner reality is also occurring. That’s where the Korean BST fits in. I placed BST after the Korean BST because we see Jin reminiscing about what has happened.
Finally, there is “EPILOGUE: Young Forever” where all of them have all grown up and are wishing to stay “Forever Young”. There’s a really dream-like state with this MV, so I consider it more of a psychical reality.
There is a chance that the boys have all died as a lot of fans have remarked, but in my opinion, the boys have just matured and though they wish to stay a boy, they have to become an adult. Their “youth” has died and not their actual selves. When we go through each boy, we see what they have gone through or left behind.
White ribbons are used in Korean funerals and white ribbons can also mean innocence and pureness in other cultures. At one point, the ribbon in Jungkook’s hand seems to have turned into a white feather–hope and then the white feather is shown by J-Hope’s feet along with the scattered pills.
The members will try to savour this blissful moment for as long as they can. I think this explanation matches the lyrics more like how J-Hope raps that “[he] wants to stay young forever”/”yeongwonhi sonyeonigo sipeo nan Aah”/”영원히 소년이고 싶어 난 Aah” (See credits for translation here). I think the huge irony here is that even though they want to savour youth, getting through youth is a challenge and a maze itself. That’s why they’re in this grey fenced maze that also resembles a cage. At the end of the day, you navigate through this maze and grow up, yet you also still become super nostalgic of those days. Ironic huh?
Tumblr media
Look at this scary maze — youth.
(Side note: I quoted the romanized Hangul and Korean lyrics because I prefer to translate the phrase as “I want to stay as a young boy forever”. Though I’m not fluent in Korean, I am certain that “sonyeon” is “少年”. 少年 in Mandarin means a teenage youth or young boy (something like a boy of ages 10-16). To be honest, I feel like when the term is translated into English, it loses its beauty and what it embodies. 少年 embodies that growing up phase.)
(Just a another note: I am not an expert in Christianity. I only know references based on what I’ve learned in English Literature and Art. I also have not fully read Demian as I have a bit too much on my hands right now. However, I’ve read summaries on Cliff Notes and Coles Notes and read character analyses. Finally, I am not a psychology major, so I apologize if I’m not 100% clear with the psychological concepts. I’ve tried my best to understand them through research.)
Now that we have all the background settled. Let’s go onto who the members represent in BST beginning with J-Hope. I have decided to release this Memo into different parts.
Analysis
(1.1) J-Hope acts as a guide. J-Hope is Archangel Michael and Frau Eva from Demian.
Throughout BST, J-Hope is like a guide. We first see him sitting in front of Michelangelo’s Pieta. Pieta depicts Virgin Mary who holds onto Jesus Christ’s deceased body after his crucifixion. We are past the scene where Jin looks through the painting, The Fall of the Rebel Angels, with some binoculars, so we know that we are in a chaotic stage of war. Notice how when the painting is zoomed in, we only see the images of the monsters and rebel angels and the Archangel in the centre is completely black.
Tumblr media
Jin with the binoculars (setting = reality based on how it’s filmed)
Tumblr media
No Archangel here. Just monsters and rebel angels.
Tumblr media
Reference to the Devil from the Korean BST.
Then the first time we see J-Hope, nearly everything is pitch black, except for him and Pieta. The neon pink/yellow light symbolizes that he is here to show the light. J-Hope has a sword in his hand; we know from a lot of stories, noble knights or Kings have to fight with a sword (ie King Arthur/Lancelot etc). Similarly, he has to fight off the bad angels.
Tumblr media
Neon pink in BST meaning that “there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,” (Book of Revelations, 12:7)
As Archangel Michael, J-Hope chases V who is likely Lucifer from Heaven and brings about the demise of the Rebel Angels. Jimin and Jungkook are seen restraining V, the Fallen Angel. You’re probably wondering how these two can be helping J-Hope when they too have fallen into despair. I think the only reasonable way to explain it is that each member starts their story at a different time. Jimin and Jungkook were saved first or have matured enough to realize that the Fallen Angel needs to be out of Heaven.
Tumblr media
Jimin and Jungkook are restraining V (the Fallen Angel).
Tumblr media
Reminder that J-Hope is the one holding the sword.
Tumblr media
I am pretty sure that this is J-Hope shooting at V because in his other outfit, he is wearing the same sweater as the one here.
Tumblr media
After all, right after the scene above, we see J-Hope with a bow and arrow.
We never get to see who exactly is the one that aims at V. However, we see in the subsequent scene that J-Hope is the one shooting his bow and arrow. In the Bible, a bow is the doctrine of truth and good: “Jehovah’s arrows are sharp, and all His bows are bent, the hoofs of His horses are counted as rock, and His wheels as the whirlwind” (Isaiah 5:28) (See this website for more explanation). After he shoots that arrow, the doctrine of truth and good are spread to all of the boys. We see the boys hanging out with J-Hope after there’s a small clip of V being in pain.
Then we notice J-Hope pouring down some pills in a cauldron which lets the truth explode. In a way, I think it could be that J-Hope is foretelling what “may” happen, but I think it is more likely that he is telling us what “has” happened. This is because the next scene is Jin looking around in the present and after that we cut to V and Jin.
(Just a little note: When J-Hope is with the boys or in his lounge room, he is wearing a sweater that is pieced together in many parts. Half of it is black and red and the other is grey, white, and blue. I suddenly got the feeling that the red and black reminded me of Jin’s outfit throughout this whole MV. In a way J-Hope seems to embody both Good and Evil at this stage after fighting the war.)
Tumblr media
J-Hope pouring some pills down and revealing fortunes or the past.
Based on the two filming styles, I think the V and Jin scene feels more like the past. Jin keeps hitting V and then mouths a “Sorry”. This somehow makes me feel that Jin is really enraged that V led Jin or all of them down the wrong road. After all, if we take a jog back memory lane, we will notice that V is always the one leading the group to do something. V is the only one that jumps from that high contraption in BTS 화양연화 On Stage Prologue MV.
Tumblr media
V being the first to jump and to lead the group to elsewhere
That jumping scene is more likely a memory of the past as we first see V with bloody hands in BTS 화양연화 On Stage Prologue MV, meaning that he has already committed the murder. He keeps trying to wash off the blood but like Lady Macbeth in Macbeth, his hands are stained. Right after this short scene, the lighting in the MV changes to give off a bright yet nostalgic vibe and then there are clips of happiness. Therefore, it’s likely V’s memory of the happier times. I think this theory works because this is also a Prologue MV leading to Butterfly.
In “Run”, V is also the first one that has plunged into the water because he has sunken too deep via the murder. After his plunge, we are shown Rapmonster who dumps some sugar into his cup of coffee. This act symbolises that similarly, all the boys have subsequently fallen into darkness after V’s crime. In “I Need U”, we already know that all the boys suffer from problems. However, V is the only one who commits arguably the biggest crime out of the boys: V has murdered his father. Therefore, these all prove that V is the one that has led the boys astray.
Also, closer to the end of”I Need U”, J-Hope is the one pouring down pills. In the beginning of “I Need U”, he seems to have to rely heavily on pills as we see him with his pill cabinet. His external reality is likely dealing with a mental health issue which is why he also suffers a lot in his psychical reality. (It could be non mental health related illness as well; we don’t really know that much based on the clips.)
Tumblr media
J-Hope pouring pills in this fire in “I Need U”
Tumblr media
J-Hope pouring pills in this cauldron in BST
Let’s go back and contrast this “I Need U” pill pouring scene to the BST one. Somehow I keep getting reminded of the Three Witches in Macbeth. I wouldn’t say J-Hope fully embodies the Three Witches because there are three of them and J-Hope doesn’t start any of the MVs. However, I think there is a subtle inference that J-Hope may have been like Three Witches who planted the seed of temptation in Macbeth’s mind to kill King Duncan. Although this pill pouring scene is shown among all of the boys changing towards the end of the MV, there are also clips of the boys’ happy youth where they are playing with fireworks and I’m pretty sure they all gathered around a fire way before V killed his father.
Tumblr media
V coming in to rescue his sister and ends up killing his father.
Tumblr media
Jimin sinking to despair
Tumblr media
Happy Jungkook at the group camp fire
Tumblr media
Everyone playing with fireworks (in the past)
Therefore, when he pours the pills in his external reality, he is foreshadowing the darkness that will come and perhaps in a very subtle way, he has influenced V to act. However, unlike the other boys who have succumbed to darkness, J-Hope is able to break free from temptation and is the bearer of truth in the inner reality. He dumps the pills once more in BST, becomes the one that awakens from this chaos, and has to punish V, the Fallen Angel.
Now that we have established how J-Hope fits as Archangel Michael, we can see how J-Hope can also be Frau Eva who represents the anima. Anima and animus are concepts developed by Carl Jung. Anima is “the woman in men” (See here for more info). The Anima’s archetype is the mother figure. It’s quite fitting that Pieta, which shows the Virgin Mary, is right behind J-Hope. Moreover, in Demian, Demian gives a kiss from Frau Eva to Sinclair. As a result of the kiss, Sinclair who represents the conscious ego is able to combine with Demian (the self) and merge with Frau Eva (the anima). Throughout the novel, Frau Eva’s role is also to help Sinclair grow. As a result, J-Hope has helped all of the other boys mature and the boys are thrown back to the external reality.
Tumblr media
Look behind J-Hope!
As for himself? J-Hope is left behind and gazes up to this sky that features an ominous green butterfly/pair of wings. I initially saw this as a butterfly; butterflies generally symbolize great transformation. Think of a caterpillar who changes into a butterfly. Wings gives a different meaning like freedom, independence, and in the Bible, wings are known to be spiritual truths (See here).
Tumblr media
All of the boys have gained some form of truth and returned to the external reality which is in green. Green is associated with nature and the Earth. I’m pretty sure in BST, green here is used to represent when the characters are in the external reality.
Whenever this neon green is used, the scenes are related to the characters being in the inner reality. We first see this neon green when Rapmonster and Jungkook are sitting across from one another and Rapmonster tempts Jungkook. Notice how the neon green is on the exterior of the windows and how the Hotel is outside of this building. Jungkook was in a hotel at the beginning. The last three pictures show the ending scenes of the MV. There is V who has been punished looking up to the green sky (external reality). There is Jungkook who is going through that weird neon green/blue light to get back to the external reality. There’s Jin looking down at the vortex and stepping away from it. The green sky is all around him. He too is getting back to the external reality.
I haven’t figured out which member to analyze for the next post, so please feel free to let me know who you’d like to understand first!

The colors in BTS’ works - a noob study
I tried to see if there was anything worth analyzing about the colors and here’s what I came up with. As the title implies, I have no knowledge in color theory nor any observation skill so take it with a grain of salt and don’t hesitate to correct me if you see something wrong^^
When I talk about the main color of a video, I don’t mean it’s the only color used, I just mean that it’s the color that appears the most. It’s obviously completely subjective. Same goes with the identification of the colors: whether it’s a greyish blue or a bluish grey is up to everyone. Again if you disagree, don’t hesitate to tell me!
I’ll mainly focus on the MVs Lumpens worked on since they did the majority of the videos, including the BU ones. GDW did almost all the other MVs, they are usually a bit darker and more action-focused, think “Dope,” “Not Today,” or “Mic Drop”.
I also won’t talk about the Japanese MVs but usually, they have the same color pattern as the Korean version.
There’ll be five parts:
The creation of the world
The red string of fate
The Butterfly dream
The temptation of the Green Fairy
Finding New Neverland, namely accepting the world
The creation of the world
If there’s one dominant color in 2 Cool 4 Skool, it’s black. Be it the boys’ outfits, the background or the lighting, everything is mainly black. And it’s the case in the MVs and the photo concept. They just wear some gold accessories.
Tumblr media
In O!RUL8,2? it’s the white that dominates. Interestingly, the two comeback trailers announcing this album start with black as the main color but end with white, like to make the transition between the two albums.
Tumblr media
We can consider the boys are associated with the black color (2 Cool 4 Skool and their black uniform in O!RUL8,2?) while the outside world is white. They rebel against this world in “N.O” and win.
Tumblr media
However, against all odds, they don’t turn the world in black, they themselves turn in white but with hip-hop outfits and gold accessories, like a white version of their 2 Cool 4 Skool selves. Where the black uniform seems to represent the world trying to force its ideal on the boys, to mold them to its convenience, the white hip-hop outfit could be the boys accepting the outside world without losing their soul, the white cover them like a second skin without hurting their core, namely hip-hop.
Tumblr media
Now that black and white are at peace, they can coexist in Skool Luv Affair and Dark & Wild. Other colors will also start appearing, but everything remains quite monochromatic. The only notable color is the light/greyish-yellow, coming mostly from the lighting. Skool Luv Affair also has hints of green in reference to the chalkboard.
Tumblr media
While we’re here, doesn’t “Danger” feels like the night version of “Just One Day”? In both, the boy is asking for the girl’s company but one is all black and the other is all white.
In parallel to those albums, we got two concerts: The Red Bullet and BTS Begins. The VCRs follow the aesthetic of an almost monochromatic world with low luminosity and a lot of black. The only exception is the outside scenes in BTS Begins when they all go to school and that have slightly more vivid colors - possibly because it is the outside world that they haven’t explored yet (but they will during 화양연화).
The concept photos also follow this idea. First black, then white, then the two together, then colors. From 2 Cool 4 Skool to 화양연화 Pt.2 we have:
Tumblr media
The world stopped being a blinding white for the boy in black who’s now standing in a yellow desert.
The red string of fate
There’s one color I haven’t mentioned until now but that still appeared in a significant way: red.
Since this part is a bit long, I’ll rather redirect you toward A study in red, an old post I rewrote for the occasion.
To make it short, the theme the boys question during an era (happiness, love temptation...) has often a red color.
The boys alone in the desert finds a red string. He starts to follow it, hoping it will lead him to the sea.
The butterfly dream
They finished school and are ready to discover the other colors existing in the world. This way Hwa Yang Yeon Hwa doesn’t have a dominant hue but rather a more or less bright color palette.
What retained my attention was the green and the blue.
Tumblr media
Note that I’m probably influenced by the Peter Pan references making me associate green with Peter himself and Neverland and “Sea” where the lyrics explain that the boys are searching for a sea in the desert.
So let’s rather just say the boys explore the outside world and so there are many colors.
One exception to this explosion of colors is “Save Me” with its grey tone. However, in the Concept Book, there’s a note saying “Save Me 화양연화 Pt.0.” And indeed the videos before 화양연화 had also a grey tone so it would actually connect well.
Tumblr media
As You Never Walk Alone is the events between 화양연화 and WINGS, I’ll put it here. We still have a palette of colors, maybe slightly paler.
Tumblr media
But the MVs have a dominant tone this time: green for “Spring Day,” pink for “Not Today.” I won’t detail “Not Today,” but you can consider its color like the pink of AWAKE or the purple of “Boy Meets Evil”
Tumblr media
Interestingly, this green color is associated with the motel Omelas. And I just said we had a green Neverland in 화양연화. We could thus consider that the Omelas the boys are about to leave is the Neverland from 화양연화, the paradise where they thought they could stay young forever.
Where it gets beautiful is that the scenes outside have two main colors, yellow and blue, which mixed make green and that can also be connected with the yellow of the desert and the blue of the sea.
Tumblr media
As they have blue and yellow maybe they can try to mix them to find back the happiness from Omelas/Neverland? Sidenote: in the NOW 3 in Chicago Dreaming Days, there’s a part called New Neverland and shot in a park with lots of green and blue. It tends to validate the idea above.
The boy found a green oasis on his path, but it’s not the blue sea he’s searching for.
The temptation of the Green Fairy
So actually the outside world isn’t all that great. Black makes its comeback but it doesn’t represent the boys anymore, it could represent the hostile world, the bad sides of life.
The Short Films are a good example. Four are mainly black: BEGIN, STIGMA, FIRST LOVE, and REFLECTION. LIE and MAMA are white with a hint of blue (sidenote: J-Hope and Jimin are a 화양연화 pair). AWAKE is blue. If we consider each short film as a step in the Demian progression, we can find an explanation:
the four black ones (Suga, RM, V, Jungkook) are still wandering between youth and adulthood, lost
the blue one (Jin) has reached adulthood, namely the blue sea. Note that considering the light blue of the room and the possibility Jin is the bird from Demian, we could also see it as a blue sky, the one you fly through to reach Abraxas.
J-Hope has almost reached the AWAKE stage so he has a white background with a blue pajama. Jimin lies and pretends he’s also near the final stage when actually he’s not.
Tumblr media
We have a possible epilogue to J-Hope’s progression in “Boy Meets Evil.”
“Boy Meets Evil” is neither red (temptation) nor blue (AWAKE stage), it’s purple, right between the two. In the same idea, the hallway Jin crosses in AWAKE is pale pink so it seems that before reaching the final stage, you have to go through this pink/purple/red path.
Tumblr media
“Blood, Sweat & Tears” (and the concert trailer for The Wings Tour actually) seems to be the same thing, but for the remaining boys. The temptation appears in hues of red and purple. And we even have a blue room, like in AWAKE.
Tumblr media
But now let’s talk about the elephant in the room.
There’s green in “Blood, Sweat & Tears”. Like a ton of green. So much green, Jungkook actually mentioned it in the Episode.
Tumblr media
You may remember I named this part “The temptation of the Green Fairy”. Green Fairy is one of the names used to designate Absinthe, the green liquid RM drinks in the MV. Basically, it’s associated with decadence, death, and poets.
So it seems this time the green color isn’t related to Neverland/Omelas/Youth but to the theme of the album, namely temptation. But why the change then? Usually, they have the red color for the theme of the album.
It’s just my guess but since another theme of WINGS is the end of youth, it could be that the boys are too old for Neverland and so it becomes toxic for them: they have to let go of their childhood (and find the New Neverland/Blue Sea).
Red is the general idea of temptation - think about the red apple - while green would be the temptation to live in the past - funny for a time travel story, isn’t it?
The boy misses the green oasis, he wants to step back rather than searching for the sea.
Finding New Neverland, namely accepting the world
And finally, we reach Love Yourself era. While it’s pretty clear all the colors are brighter than in any other era, it’s hard to find dominant ones. Be it the Highlight Reels or Euphoria, we have a color palette like during HYYH, probably meaning the boys are exploring the outside world.
But it seems yellow and blue are slightly more present in the MVs for the main tracks. You can also think about the blue mold and the yellow blanket in “Serendipity”.
Tumblr media
They accept to renounce to the green and to rather live in a world with yellow and blue, namely the desert and the sea. Like they accept to love themselves no matter how imperfect they are, they accept the world.
The last hints of green are in “Serendipity” and “Epiphany”. In the first one, it’s probably a remaining illusion. Tear proved Her is a lie:
the black “Singularity” invalidated the green “Serendipity”. They’re still trying to escape the world of temptations like in WINGS
“FAKE LOVE” going from the blue sea to the yellow desert invalidated the illusion from “DNA” where blue and yellow existed together
The green in “Epiphany” is most likely Jin's last attempt to change the past: the current time is grey, it turns green when Jin travels back in time and goes back to grey when he reaches the same future. I said it’s his last attempt because at the end when he goes out, the colors stay grey and it fits with the lyrics.
Tumblr media
As this time they accepted their destiny, it seems the yellow and blue co-existing in “IDOL” is for real this time.
The boy found the blue sea. He doesn’t hate the yellow desert anymore. He has reached the New Neverland.
As a picture is worth a thousand words, I’ll use an ugly one for my conclusion:
Tumblr media
Nota Bene: it’s interesting to consider those colors based on the Teageuk. The red is associated with the negative cosmic energies and the Earth: it’s the dystopian world from where the boys started. The blue is associated with positive energies and Heaven: it’s the ocean the boys dream to reach. Yellow represents humanity: the boys are in the desert and eventually they realize it’s from this desert that the ocean comes from. Combining the yellow humanity with the blue hope gives green, which represents youth in Bangtan’s works according to the WINGS Concept Book.

blood, sweat, & tears mv members’ symbols observations
helloo i’m here to list from the mv what i examined were the tangible symbols connected to the members cuz i just realized theyre also in the bst mv so im just here to point them out LOL
in no way am i like theorizing as a whole. i’m just pointing out the obvious. and doing tiny detail theories here and there.
Blood, Sweat, & Tears MV
a LOT of this shit is iffy too like i don’t know some things i’m just flat out guessing.
INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS
all the members have a reoccurring theme/item that holds close to them the majority of the mvs.
Suga- fire: -the smoke in the room (1:30) -the lighting of the candle (1:37)
Namjoon- lollipops/cigarette: -smoking or smoke coming out of his mouth (3:48)
Jhope- pills: -actually i didn't observe any symbols for jhope here. maybe i missed it.
V- heights and jumping off ledges: -he is on the ledge of a balcony (0:59) - more balcony scene but jumps off (3:18)
Jungkook- ???, feathers: -i actually really don't know jungkook's tangible symbol. i understand he's lowkey tied to the bird from his solo film so cud be birds and flying on the swing? (1:11) or it's him stuck midst hit by car crash. - starting to think it's birds or feathers. it seems to be feathers at (3:35) just like the feathers in his fence area during young forever mv
Jin- flowers (and being alone): -he's at the head of the "religious feast"-like table (2:38) -flowers at (5:55) just like flowers in run and i need u
Jimin- apples and water: - he's holding an apple (?) i think at (3:16) -surprisingly not wet in this mv hm.
CONNECTIONS-
how it seems that members are paired throughout run, i need u, etc whilst jin is alone. (pairs are- suga & jungkook, namjoon & v, and jhope & jimin)
JHOPE & JIMIN: -jhope in the TUB (1:57) of water. shows the connection to jimin because jimin is always wet/underwater -jhope stroking the tub lowkey looks like a comforting gesture to jimin (2:26) - lowkey not being serious here but jhope rudely kicks jimin's water. also starting to want to call it jhope's holy water tub trying to purify jimin. (3:31)
NAMJOON & V: -V being under the sheets (2:03) shows a connection with namjoon in epilogue: young forever mv! when namjoon had his intro scene there, there were similar fabrics tied to his beginning fence area. -V is once again under sheets as he's being unveiled at (4:46)
SUGA & JUNGKOOK: - tbh i didn’t see any o.o might’ve missed it?
AND THEN JUST OVERALL HOW ALL THE MEMBERS' STORYLINES/BRIDGES CONNECT.
in the very beginning all the paired members as i stated above are mixed up. namjoon and jungkook, v and jhope, suga and jimin, BUT jin is once again alone looking at the painting.
JUNGKOOK & NAMJOON: - mentioned before how they paired in the beginning -jungkook has a lollipop (1:26) -the bird being burned (1:41) (which can also be tied to suga with the fire) -the green candle drip (2:08) onto jungkook. at this point i'm associating the green substance to namjoon bc of the drink. and jungkook eats it at (2:17) - another lollipop on jungkook at (3:00) the room at (3:01) is hard to tell but im thinking its namjoon and jungkook
SUGA & NAMJOON: -when suga's scene ends in the beginning by igniting a fire on the candle (1:37), it is next to namjoon's green drink.
V & JHOPE: - mentioned before how they paired in the beginning - jhope shoots an arrow and it "hits" V (2:46)
SUGA & JIMIN: - mentioned before how they paired in the beginning - together in suga's declared 'room' for the mv (3:14) - very beginning suga covers jimin's eyes and now at (3:16) suga is holding a blindfold. - then at (3:50) suga blindfolds jimin but i don't understand him being tied up coming from anywhere in the past.
INTERESTING OBSERVATIONS:
- at (4:40) v stays behind for jin. v is usually being highlighted in some way such as young forever mv he was the last one to find them AND he was a little behind the rest when they were walking through the airplane runway. i dont know the reason tho.
- can someone tell me what the wall says at (5:46)
CONCLUDE:
overall these observations don't mean a thing if i don't have a theory/reason behind it and theyre all the obvious observations but i mean maybe it'll help someone else idk //shrugs// im out. bts makes me tired with the theories and stuff but i can't stop LOL

If you’re bored, it wouldn’t hurt to check out what I discovered in a particular scene of the Spring Day MV.
Tumblr media
Pay attention to the direction that the train is going. For easy reference, let’s say the train is heading ← way.
Tumblr media
As the camera pans out from a Jungkook one-shot, they reveal to us that the rest of the members have joined him on the train. Jungkook seems to be visibly surprised, as if his friends had never been there until now, as he looks around at the newfound company.
Now, take a look at the seating arrangement of the rest of the members. Remember, while the train is going in  ← direction, Jungkook and the rest of the members, with the exception of Seokjin, are sitting in seats opposite the train’s direction. Aka direction →.
Then you might ask, “What about Hoseok? He’s in an in-between!” Yes, that is true. However, we are still able to get full frontal view of his face. Moreover, his body is angled outwards, which still, by my books, puts him in the category of “Direction →”.
Seokjin, however, is a special case. Note how his body, despite his face being at an angle, is still seated with his back primarily facing us, or the camera. Thus, this makes him aligned in ←, same as the train.
By now I’m sure everyone who’s still reading this is pouncing on all sorts of possibilities as to what the train might represent. With the running theme of death that Big Hit x BTS x Lumpens has presented to us since as far back as INU era, all the way to Prologue, Run, Epilogue and even Young Forever, it is quite safe to say that the train might be some metaphoric symbol of a journey to the after life.
The real question is this: Who exactly is the one on the way to the Great Beyond?
Countless theories have said that it could be Seokjin who’s dead, or that Seokjin is the last one alive. Hell, some even say Taehyung is the only one dead. While it is to each his own, it has been quite obvious that Seokjin has been singled out from the rest of the group time and time again. This is not a debate as to who is dead and who is not, but I think we can all agree that Seokjin seems to be a separate entity from the rest of his group.
What have you guys got to say now that we’ve analyzed a small bit of this scene? Personally, I’m starting to mull over the positioning of each member, particularly the coincidence (or not?) that Taehyung x Namjoon x Seokjin have been placed together in the same booth, considering the more significant roles they’ve had to play in previous films, especially Prologue.
I’d love to hear what else people notice in this scene. But let’s not get too conclusive now. Don’t ruin the fun of free-thought for others! :D
P.S. If you’d like a better visual picture of the entirety of this scene and not just a still capture, I suggest you check out cuteguk’s gifset.
