Map of the Soul: Persona; Overview
Tumblr media
overview: this starts the new series of bangtan as they completed the love yourself trilogy series. now, they delve deeper into the meaning of persona, discovering yourself as you start to love yourself and embrace your flaws. later on, I will talk about the upcoming next few albums that as seen from Namjoon’s Intro: Persona MV, shadow and ego are next and based on the book, ‘Jung’s Map of the Soul’; these are the next two album names of the Map of the Soul series.
do support my ko-fi if you can~
⇝ masterlist
intro: persona: the sampled beat from intro: skool luv affair has proven that the boys are exploring a more old school beat, old hip hop even and you could tell in the way that Namjoon structured his rap. also, the way he does it coupled with how long this intro is, certainly a feet to be acknowledged. he shows his diversity in rapping throughout the song as the song develops but goes back to his flow. definitely something to applaud him for as he did so well in full out rapping this intro.
boy with luv (ft. halsey): the new title track and for the first time, it’s featuring someone!!!! usually when the boys collab, they do not feature in a song but to note that they started with the collabs only later on in the love yourself: her series with steve aoki and chainsmokers for the truth untold and best of me. so, having someone to feature in a song, is definitely taking these collabs to the next level. love how the song sound a bit retro but yet modernized if you know what I mean. The featuring of halsey was subtly done in terms of the chorus only which was interesting considering most featurings would take a verse by themselves before the bridge. However, it is refreshing to see halsey being part of this in the chorus, not overpowering the boys and the boys not really overpowering them either, they worked well together.
mikrokosmos: at first listen, I was not that fond of the beat, it’s too synthesized for my own liking but I must say that whiplash sound really does get your attention. Also, the build up to Hoseok’s part and throughout the song is what gives the song its distinct points. The chorus I must say wasn’t what I expected it to be. It just wasn’t the kind of sound I was expecting but I must say it’s kind of refreshing, the whole ‘I got you, you got me’, got me thinking of toy story and the sudden ‘oh oh’ made it more british pop sound like. Also, how the raps are placed in this song, is not as obvious and I really appreciate it.
make it right: definitely my most fav song out of the whole album? Honestly the beat already getd to you right from the beginning with the synthesized trumpet kind of sound, and it’s so laidback but not to the extent of singularity. Definitely something, honestly the beat is so sexy and sensual that it could easily just be a bed song. It’ just so well done, I love how the chorus is just never right at your face, it’s actually pretty constant except for maybe a few changes in the beats but the same synth is being played throughout the song, much like the saxophone in dope of bts. Love this song. Lord knows, I love ed Sheeran for writing this song. The beat is the one.
home: this is where it hits home, mostly because of how this song is meant to be for armys, coupled with yoongi’s lyrics that he wrote in reference in ‘we are bulletproof pt.2’ made me realize the boys have always stayed the same as they are, truly they are the same boys that they are 6 years ago and id be damned if I don’t be there till the very end. also, home has the same beat that could literally be in relation to dimple and love maze, the kind of more modernized synths literally. This is the trinity.
Jamais Vu: interesting to see how they are using a phrase that is opposite from one many of us know which is déjà vu. I will talk more about this later on. But anyway, this seems to be one of the first subunit songs that we would get as based on the version 2 concept photos, well at least that’s what people were speculating but we are then proved to be boo boo the fools because well it didn’t follow exactly. So apart from this, it seems as though the next 2 albums of the series would also contain subunit songs. But anyway, love how they made use of hoseok in a way, utuilising both his rap and vocal abilities. Hoseok is commonly known to be part of the underlying vocals for many of the bangtan songs including spring day and make it right etc. also, this song has a really nice contrast especially towards the end, making use of hoseok but in a more subtle whisper, it sounds more muffled. Also the pleading in both jinkook’s voices is important to note.
dionysus: this song literally is the one that could be on par with rock songs such as fall out boy and panic at this disco, they have the same energy. I am just simply fascinated as to why this really all hype song is at the end of the album, especially considering they do not have an outro for this. It sounds as though in this song, they are definitely pushing the whole persona in which the lyrics in Dionysus mainly talk about acting like a Dionysus, drinking etc, I will explain more about this in the individual song analysis. Definitely a hype song, without a doubt, I love how it remained pretty consistent in terms of the chorus and if you think the song couldn’t get any harder well the last chorus would prove you wrong. Also, seokjin’s rock vaosl are definitely something to take note, it’s so good, it’s on par with his crystal snow and epiphany vocals.
last thoughts: definitely an interesting flow of how the songs are arranged, usually most of their songs over the years have been going to a whole end of the story kind of chapter but maybe because there is no outro so the album ends incomplete? I am still intrigued that they ended the album with Dionysus so I can’t wait to see how they transition this into their other upcoming albums.

Anpanman Analysis
this is the analysis for Love Yourself 轉 Tear’s song called Anpanman
i will be analysing several components - music, lyrics  and choreography
disclaimer: this is just my personal opinion, feel free to disagree. do let me know your thoughts in my ask box
Tumblr media
overall: like ive mentioned before, this could be categorized together with Boyz with Fun, Attack on Bangtan, 뱁새, Go go. a definitely preppy song if i say so myself but i think this song is definitely climbing up my favourites to be honest. to think they named the song after the red bean bread who’s known to be weak, truly bangtan and their literature tools.
music: right on the first second, the beat is quite peppy with a lot of keyboards being used. i must say that the instrumentation here is offbeat, in a way that the vocals are heard first before one would hear he actual beat.
but moving on, it can be heard as mixture of synthesized xylophones and keyboards to make it sound more childish and more peppy.
interesting that taehyung was the one who started off the song first yet again and also how there isn’t a hint of percussion at all inside. not until hoseok comes in at least at the 0:10 mark. also, the voice that taehyung uses is slightly different from his usual voice as this is more rounder as compared to his usual singing.
so at the 0:10 mark, hoseok comes in together with the percussion, mostly drum beats that are constant and also in sync with the style of hoseok’s rapping, purposely emphasizing on certain words just when the percussion hits.
throughout his verse, doubling was only used at the last few words of each of hoseok’s lines. adlibs weren’t as common in hoseok’s parts.
then it moves on to yoongi’s at 0:30, yoongi making sure to make an entrance with ‘eh’ before he dives right into his verse. yoongi’s style of rapping here is relaxed yet synthesized to match with the beat. one could hear how most likely hoseok is the one doing the doubling and the adlibs together with yoongi because of the weight of the sound.
yet moving on, the percussion is pretty fixed here as well but at 0:50, one could tell that though seokjin took over, there is a sense of doubling being heard and also the fact that it’s a whole chorus saying ‘let me hear you say’ and ‘turn it up’. then taehyung takes over at 1:02. in all honesty, their vocal tones here are ones that we haven’t heard much before because it’s more rounder. then one could hear namjoon saying ‘turn it up, turn it up’.
the chorus then drops at 1:11 with jungkook and let me say the instrumentation is interesting because it kinda is the same with the beginning of the song - not much change actually. then jimin actually continues over at 1:18 and wraps it up.
but what i love is that after this chorus, there is this sort of extended chorus that the rapper line does, in this case with yoongi doing it first at 1:29 and then one could hear that there’s the chorus of people singing ‘anpanman’. at 1:39, hoseok takes over to do the same exact part as yoongi’s.
then the song transits to namjoon’s part in which the instrumentals are now softer and dimmer; as if it went on reset mode. the instrumentals are otherwise the same throughout. i like how in 1:57, there’s a bit of variety in namjoon’s raps as he pauses more often here and only at 2:03, did he resume back to his usual form of rapping. only when he ends his rap did the instrumentals change a bit to be one that’s descending.
then at 2:07, it moves on to the prechorus with jimin and one could feel that the tone of the voice is being altered and it sounds more like echoes  this time round. it sounds more rounder as well. then at 2:17, one could hear taehyung singing the next part and again the same echoes sound and very rounded sounds could be heard. more or less, the chorus sounds pretty much the same.
at 2:25, you could hear jungkook taking over then at 2:35, jimin takes over the chorus. but at 2:44, there is a change in which the bridge comes about and starts with jungkook.
what’s interesting is that at the bridge, the music is merely reduced to claps and very little percussion. the claps are 1 every 4 counts.
even at 2:55 when jimin takes over the bridge, the music/instrumentals pretty much the same. only at 3:04 did the instrumentals change to the rhythm/beat that changes from a verse to the prechorus which could be heard before.
otherwise, the chorus remains the same after the bridge even till the extended chorus except that namjoon finishes the song as such. even at 3:43, you could hear jungkook doing a quick admin and it ends nicely as such. last thoughts:
lyrics: i just love how the lyrics refer to Anpanman, a Japanese red bean superhero, in a way that he is not that special but still tries his best
i love the relationship that bangtan made
Waiting for you Anpanman Waiting for you Anpanman
right from the beginning, this phrase came out and is repeated throughout the song.
=
I don’t have biceps or pecs I don’t have a super car like Batman It was my dream to become a hero But the only thing I can give you is Anpan I dreamed of a hero like Superman So I jumped around, bouncing to the sky Wasn’t scared of getting my kneecaps scratched up It was my innocent childhood imagination
hoseok’s lyrics here an interesting because he incorporates what every little boy’s dream was to be: a hero; a superhero to be exact, to show he would do anything even if it meant he would get hurt
I’m not a superhero I can be your hero You can call me say Anpan
=
I’m not a superhero Don’t expect too much from me I can be your hero Will this get through to you? I don’t know But I have to do this, Mom Who can it be if it’s not me? You can call me say Anpan
yoongi’s verse is interesting because he states the truth first by saying he is not a superhero and that he still has some areas in which he is lacking.
Waiting for you Anpanman (Lemme hear ya say, lemme hear ya say) Waiting for you Anpanman (Turn it up, turn it up, turn it up) (Turn it up, turn it up, turn it up)
계속 돌려 돌려 나의 Anpan Keep ballin’ ballin’ still 방탄 눈 뜨니 hero but still in 미로 그 young man, young man, young man 계속 몰래 몰래 상처 만땅 But ballin’ ballin’ still 방탄 아파도 hero 두려움은 뒤로 Anpanman panman panman
=
Waiting for you Anpanman (Lemme hear ya say, lemme hear ya say) Waiting for you Anpanman (Turn it up, turn it up, turn It up) Have more strength (Lemme hear ya say, lemme hear ya say) I’ll be your strength (Turn it up, turn it up, turn it up)
Keep turning, turning, my Anpan Keep ballin’ ballin’ still bulletproof Open my eyes, I’m a hero but still in a maze That young man, young man, young man Secretly only getting scars But ballin’ ballin’ still bulletproof It hurts, hero but place your fears behind Anpanman panman panman
here, it shows how they are becoming a hero secretly even in small ways, despite not entirely figuring themselves out, hence why they are in a maze.
I’m a new generation Anpanman I’m a new superhero Anpanman Lemme say “All the bad men, cop out” I’m a new generation Anpanman I’m a new superhero Anpanman Lemme say “All the bad men, cop out”
=
I’m a new generation Anpanman I’m a new superhero Anpanman What I have is this song here Lemme say “All the bad men, cop out” I’m a new generation Anpanman I’m a new superhero Anpanman What I have is this song here Lemme say “All the bad men, cop out”
here, they say that they are a new generation kind of superhero, one who does not have powers per se just like the older generations, but is a hero nonetheless.
=
Sometimes, everything is so scary So many things that I love Some people say I’m an old geezer now That I have no right, that I should just do what I’ve been doing But I still wanna be a hero But I can only give you an Anpan And tell you that you did a good job But if you call me, I’ll fly over to you So call me
here, namjoon’s verse links to hoseok and yoongi in which he still has fears but he desires to be a hero for someone else.
the fact that if you call him, he’ll fly over to you and he wants you to call him.
now, the chorus’ lyrics are the same as the first round one. now, we’ll look at the bridge.
Yeah yeah
=
Honestly I’m afraid of falling Of disappointing you But still, even if I have to use all my strength I will stay by your side Though I’ll fall again Though I’ll make mistakes again Though I’ll fall into a mud pit again Trust me, because I’m a hero Yeah yeah
now, the bridge is interesting, saying that no matter what, they would be a hero for the person they love.
honestly, if this isn't love, i dont what is.
Reference: Colour Coded ©
choreography: i think it’s pretty clear that this choreography is meant to be more cutesy etc and not so much of the fatal point moves etc.
this choreography is meant to feature anpanman as a superhero hence all those moves that they have been doing; it’s cute that they do the popping together with it !!
Tumblr media
they are all doing this superhero move from the beginning and till the end, my heart.
Tumblr media
also, this leg move by seokjin and jungkook is so cute, i mean it’s as if they are flying.
Tumblr media
also, this move after the chorus, is a winner, they are like little planes, if you were to call them, but still flying etc.
Tumblr media
if ever, i would say this choreography isn't as hard as the rest such as 21st century girls etc or go go, it is quite cute as well.
i think it suits the theme of the red bean superhero, anpanman himself etc.
last thoughts: i truly enjoyed myself with this song, it made me feel like a kid all over again and i loved every bit of me.

Magic Shop Analysis
this is the analysis for bangtan’s 3rd fanning after 2!3! and Pied Piper in th love yourself: tear album
i will be analysing several components - music and lyrics
disclaimer: this is just my personal opinion, feel free to disagree. do let me know your thoughts in my ask box
Tumblr media
overall: to think that this is another song for the fans and produced by jungkook makes my heart swell even more. really love the melodic lines in here and the interactive ‘so show me’ ‘I’ll show you’. I think this what makes it more emotional for every army.
music: the song actually starts off with a lot of synths especially with the resounding synth that makes it as the intro that develops into more synths being used before taehyung comes in. to be honest, very light percussion is used here and also it sounds as though there is some usage of guitar chords but synthesized - usually called appregios in which one plays the bass note before the melodic notes. i love how it’s when taehyung ends his line before the appregios come in as if to show the different emphasis on these two elements without overshadowing anyone of them. yet also, taehyung’s voice here isn’t strained and is actually pretty relaxed.
only at 0:17, jungkook then takes over. he does the same technique as taehyung and even used a more breathy voice. interesting that as when he ends his lines, he harmonizes it before there’s a 1 second silence before namjoon then takes over at 0:28.
when namjoon takes over, the percussion comes into full swing. also, there is a huge contrast between jungkook and namjoon in terms that namjoon’s vocal tone sounds more heavier than jungkook’s. at 0:41, the song moves on to the second part of namjoon’s lines/rap.
then moving on, seokjin then begins the prechorus at 0:54 with his melodic voice but one could hear that doubling was used inside; most likely done by jungkook. then at 1:06, jimin takes over the prechorus and one could hear that the percussion of the beat is now increasingly prominent as it beats at every count. and what a voice to be honest. only at 1:14 did jimin start to wrap the prechorus as the beat becomes even increasingly faster before it drops to the chorus at 1:19 with jungkook. ( talk about that high note from jimin )
when jungkook does the chorus at 1:19, the synths then drop in and the sound is much more fuller here. for some reason, i definitely could hear taehyung doing the doubling here especially at 1:26 before it quickly switches over to jimin. the interesting thing is that with the synths, it sounds as jimin’s backing here. but what’s the key point of the song is the audience participation at 1:31 that sounds more intimate as it requires a ‘question and answer’ kind of response. this is especially so when jungkook does the first part as ‘so show me’ and then there’s the resounding chorus of ‘I show you’. and the fact that it is repeated by the vocal line ( taehyung and jimin ) makes it even more ingrained in one’s ears and then it ends with ‘show you, show you’.
then quick to the transition, it’s hoseok’s part. what i like about hoseok’s part is that usually it’s not just full blown out rap but also some melodic singing and the prime example would be here; in this song at 1:46. not to mention how the whole beat of the song simmered down to som low synths and simple percussion.
afterwards, yoongi takes over at 1:57 and he even does a quick adlib to signal that his part is next. when it’s yoongi’s part, the beat kinda increased a bit as the beats begin to pick up. also, yoongi’s tone of voice is very distinct here. the beats are very soft and easy to complement his rapping. hoseok quickly then comes in at 2:17 for a line to wrap the whole verse up before the prechorus comes in with jungkook at 2:24.
not much change in the prechorus this time round except that at 2:37, seokjin continues the prechorus. again, when the chorus drops, there are a lot of harmonies between the vocal line. this time round with taehyung’s lines and seokjin as well after jungkook. then we have the iconic ‘so show me, i show you’.
the bridge then comes into play at 3:16 with taehyung and jungkook’s soft harmonizing and very soft instrumentals. only at 3:28 did jimin take over and the instrumentals begin to pick its pace especially at 3:39.
then there is this musical interlude of synths at 3:41 for quite some time, maybe 14 seconds as the singing comes back at 3:54. but the synths are the same ones used in the chorus, so it’s no new introduction at all.
at 3:54, the boys wrap up the whole song one last time together with ‘so show me, i show you’.
lyrics: these lyrics are just wow, it’s a lot of healing if you know what i mean
=
I know you’re hesitating Because even if you tell the truth, it’ll come back as scars I won’t say clichéd things like “have strength” I’ll just listen to you, listen
right from the start, one could tell how relatable this is to almost anyone, the fact that they used the word ‘scars’, something that most of us consider emotionally sensitive to
i love how they know that nobody wants to hear ‘have strength’ but rather have someone would listen and be by them all the time
I do believe your galaxy
=
What did I tell you? I told you you’d overcome You didn’t believe (really) Will we be able to overcome? This miracle Did we make it? (No) I was always here You came to me I do believe your galaxy I wanna hear your melody The stars in your Milky Way How will they appear in your sky? At the end of my despair I found you, don’t forget You’re my last reason Standing at the edge of a cliff Live
namjoon’s lyrics never fails to amaze me. he makes me feel as though we are the reason for who bangtan is. we came to him, he found us etc.
=
Days when you hate that you’re you Days when you wanna disappear Let’s make a door in your heart If you open that door and go inside This place will be waiting for you It’s ok to believe, it’ll comfort you, this Magic Shop
this pre chorus is so beautiful. i love how i can relate so much to these lyrics, and the fact that bangtan says they'll comfort us as well in this Magic Shop.
=
As you drink a cup of warm tea As you look above to the Milky Way You’ll be alright, oh this is a Magic Shop
this chorus is so cute. i love how relaxing it feels to drink a warm cup of tea, though i am a coffee person and to just gaze up to the sky. i feel at ease.
=
Like a rose when blooming Like a cherry blossom when scattering Like a lily when withering Like those beautiful moments I always wanna be the best So I was always impatient and anxious Comparing myself became a daily thing My greed that used to be a weapon Became a prison and noose But looking back, to be honest I don’t think I wanted to be the best I wanted to be someone’s comfort I wanted to touch someone’s heart I want to take away your sadness, your pain
this is a mix of hoseok and young’s rap parts. but look at the lyrics.
i love how hoseok used flowers as some form of representation, specifically the rose, cherry blossom and the lily.
but yoongi’s lyrics when he mentioned about being the best, which i am sure we all can relate to, but the fact that he used rather condescending objects to represent things eg. greed as a weapon to be a prison and a noose.
but when he realised, he wanted beyond that, he wanted to be someone else’ hope and strength.
i love how it flowed with hoseok’s lyrics so much. it heals me.
=
If I told you I used to be scared of everything too Will you believe me? All of the truth, all of the remaining time All of your answers are in this place that you found In your Milky Way, in your heart
this bridge is important. i love how taehyung sang it as well. i just feel at peace when i here this.
You gave me the best of me So you’ll give you the best of you You gave me the best of me So you’ll give you the best of you 넌 찾아낼 거야 네 안에 있는 galaxy
=
You gave me the best of me So you’ll give you the best of you You found me, you recognized me You gave me the best of me So you’ll give you the best of you So I’ll find you, the galaxy that’s inside of you
i love this extended chorus as the end, i love how you could think of Whalien 52, in which it talks about the whale singing at the frequency of 52 Hertz but is unheard by any of the other whales.
just like here, the same thing of bangtan finding us, just like in the exhibition of ‘오,늘’ in which they say that bangtan is the whale and armys are the ones who found them makes me soft.
So show me (I’ll show you) So show me (I’ll show you) So show me (I’ll show you) Show you show you
this makes me love bangtan all over again

LY 結: Answer Album Overview
this is the overview of the LY: Answer, the final album of the love yourself series.
disclaimer: this is just my personal opinion, feel free to disagree. do let me know your thoughts in my ask box. i would only be talking about the tracks that are new considering it is a repackage album, but also be talking about the flow of the whole album.
Tumblr media
overall: this album in general has a lot of techno beats in it, technically, this album is meant to be more upbeat as now they have overcome all their problems. but what i love is how it tells a story on how despite everything that happened, you should love yourself.
disc 1
euphoria: the intro of the ever first instalment of the love yourself series, starting off with wonder. ( LY 起 ) a song that definitely shows how much jungkook’s vocals shine so much. this, together with that techno game beat has opened my eyes to a whole new love for it.
honestly, i feel as though with this song, you could feel as though everything is going so smoothly here, everything is perfect, just like how he would have envisioned it. this was the beginning - his euphoria.
trivia 起 just dance: this is hoseok’s track that he produced and all i could say is that it could easily be blended in into his mixtape called Hope World that he recently released on 2 May 2018.
trust me, just put this track right after Hope World, or after P.O.P. (pt.1), and the mixtape would still flow smoothly. a lot of upbeat synths - a signature of hoseok to be honest, it’s his style.
this track talks about hoseok’s love for dance, but im pretty sure, i hear jimin at 2:40 doing some of the backup vocals here.
notice that all the trivia tracks have the corresponding symbols of which instalment they are from. they are kind of the interlude tracks to the next instalment of the love yourself series - the track that transits to the next love yourself series.,
serendipity ( full length ): aside from the melodic track that we have heard before, this full version has an extra verse inside, sort of like an extended bridge/verse in which he breaks it down even more before he nicely ends it with a note.
honestly, this sounds like a wonderful lullaby, with its mellow sound and soft instrumentals, say thank you park jimin.
trivia 承 love: this is namjoon’s track that he produced and mainly talks about love - falling in love in general.
i love how despite the instrumentals are quite soft and mellow, his rapping here is more harsher so it provides quite a contrast to the whole track.
also, namjoon tries to sing this time round as well at 2:27, though you could tell it is auto-tuned,
im not sure if he has hoseok as his backing vocals or if its just namjoon doing the backing vocals because of the change in the vocal tone and colour.
trivia 轉 seesaw: this is the track that yoongi produced and trust me, this has the same vibe as the track that he helped produced for Suran called Wine/If i get drunk today , this could be heard by the straight instrumentals that he used here, very mellow sounds, not much synths, but more towards guitar and little percussion in the beginning.
also, by the time it hits the chorus, there is the underlying techno vibe of it. i love how yoongi makes an effort to sing in here, and i really love it so much, especially when he sang in the best of me, i would definitely look forward to yoongi singing more.
overall, i love how each of the trivia tracks done by the rapline has them singing and rapping in them, it shows that they are exploring more and i love how it just fits all in all. a smooth transition.
epiphany: of course, bighit would release the full version because we all knew that when they uploaded the comeback trailer, they teased us a bit of the track inside and focused more on the whole story telling of it.
but moving on, i love how it showcased a lot of seokjin’s vocals here and it shows how much improvement he has made. thank you so much seokjin.
idol: the title track that is very lit. tp be honest, i thought there wouldn't be a title track considering at first, bangtan won't be promoting but they are now!!!
but moving on, trust me when i say this is the type of music you would probably hear at the World Cup but i really love the fusion of the south african music together with the traditional korean music.
in all honesty, i think the teaser that they show was far off considering it was just the bridge that they showed but the actual song was bass boosted. it had the feels of bang bang bang towards at the end and possibly bollywood too, but wow at the intensity of it. fire could be compared with it.
i’m fine: so this is the track that is meant to parallel save me, based on the HYYH series, in which you reverse the words etc, you'll get each other.
talk about bringing memories when you hear the starting of the song with ‘save me’. nice transition though but also, this song has the feels of ellie goulding’s burn by the chorus but they changed it at the second line etc.
also, trust me, it sounds a bit of wake me up by avicii too, but wow at the amount of synths being used here. again, bringing the whole game music.
answer: love myself: this song definitely healed me. if you just listen to it without even reading the lyrics, there is this sense of emotion of satisfaction that only bangtan could instil in you.
i love how there is a lot of harmonising in the chorus, it’s as if you are being reassured by them and when you look at the lyrics, this is the reason why you stan them, hands down.
disc 2
dna ( pedal 2 LA mix ): i am guessing this is the mix that they used at the AMAs, when bangtan was asked to perform there and everyone had a fun time.
fake love ( rocking vibe mix ): this remix that bighit decides to just drop out of nowhere this year, like thanks.
but this would be the more alternative rock track with the change in the instrumentals and introduction of the guitar, more intensity than the original track that felt a bit like BST.
mic drop ( steve aoki ) ( full remix ): the mic drop remix track that bangtan has used at 2017 MAMAs and actually sent many of the fans to their graves because of how lit their stage was together with those dance breaks.
say thank you bighit.
last thoughts: overall the album has a lot of synths this time round, sounding more techno than before but i love how they still managed to bring across the emotions and messages that they want to bring across, especially the final track: answer: love myself.

Don’t Leave Me Analysis
this is the analysis for one of the tracks in bangtan’s japanese album: face yourself - dont leave me.
i will be analysing several components - music and lyrics
disclaimer: this is just my personal opinion, feel free to disagree. do let me know your thoughts in my ask box
Tumblr media
overall: i honestly loved this song the best throughout the whole of bangtan’s Japanese album. i love the buildup and the intensity kept constant within the song. and the fact that this song was used as an OST for a Japanese remake of a drama called, signal. definitely, this song complemented the whole vibe of the drama.
music: honestly, i love how the beginning of the music starts off with just the instrumentation that includes the use of a piano, synths and possibly some strings ( maybe a violin ). one would notice how that there isn’t just the piano chords but also there’s this specific chord in which the first note is played first before the rest is played together, hence the emphasis is on the 1st note specifically at 0:05. i really love the resounding effect at 0:07 as it sounds like a siren; a synthesized siren. also, that instrumentation at 0:15 before it leads in to the verse at 0:18.
then at 0:18, taehyung comes in with his low timbre of voice. and to think that taehyung is starting this song first again!!!!!!!!! moving on, when taehyung starts off the song, the instrumentation simmered down a bit to have just the piano and the introduction of people snapping their fingers. the fact that they used a space at 0:24 before continuing to the 2nd part of taehyung’s verse.
interestingly, taehyung’s verse is cut short as around 0:28, one would just be able to hear just the instrumentation and is being used as a lead-in to the next part of the song which is by namjoon.
at first listen, one could actually mistake taehyung and namjoon together but if you listen closely, there is a difference in the textures of their voices despite being low timbres. taehyung for example has a more rounder and richer volume of his voice as compared to namjoon’s which is thinner. only at 0:34 onwards to 0:38, did namjoon actually speed up his pace of rapping then quickly hoseok taking over and ending it quick at 0:42. one could tell by the tone of hoseok’s voice.
quickly, the beat simmered down to reveal the prechorus at 0:45 done by jungkook with also just the piano as the background instrumentals. then at 0:48, there is that brief echo of jungkook before coming back to his usual part. then at 0:54, one could tell that he was getting ready for the chorus to drop.
the chorus dropped together with the short melody of the drums that increased the intensity of the whole song when jimin begins to sing the chorus. one could tell that the way that jimin sang the chorus is slightly different from his usual way of singing as there is more desperation to complement the raging synths as the bgm. interesting that there wasn’t exactly any fixed percussion and it was mostly made up by synths. also, the style of jimin’s singing here is that it is in a staccato style, ensuring that each syllable has the emphasis and not on certain words/melodies.
yet, at 1:09 is sung by jungkook although at first listen, one might find it confusing as to who is the one singing it. also, jungkook is sort of singing this in a falsetto tone of voice hence more breathy feeling and of a higher pitch. then a 1:17, seokjin comes in to wrap up the whole chorus with his more higher pitch and colour of vocals especially at 1:20. the chorus then ends with an echo of seokjin’s voice at 1:24 with only one count of rest before it dives into the next verse.
interesting that the next verse starts off with taehyung yet again at 1:25 and that the bgm simmers back down but now with the introduction of some strings ( can we all appreciate the violins, violas and cellos please since it is prominent at 1:30 and 1:35 ). also, if you would notice that this time round, taehyung’s verse has actually sped up a bit in a way that he’s singing more syllables than usual. then, i love how the instrumentals just kinda end on a higher note at 1:37 so that it kinda connects with the next person taking over none other than yoongi.
when yoongi takes over, interesting that his diction is really good in a way that almost every word is being emphasized. then hoseok takes over briefly and it’s interesting because the way hoseok did his lines was that it sounded as if he was singing as well. then he also made way for namjoon to also do some lines at 1:47 before it goes back to the prechorus with jungkook.
at the prechorus at 1:50, one would hear that the beat of the song is building up before it drops at the chorus yet again. then at 1:54, one could hear the melodic cello sounds that complement jungkook’s singing. also i just really love the strings in this part.
then the chorus drops with seokjin at 2:03. interesting that one could tell that it’s seokjin because of how thin the voice is but yet able to reach the higher notes as well. then jungkook comes in again to be the link between seokjin and jimin as jimin wraps up the chorus at 2:23. again the best underlying this is really good because it’s really in sync with the dynamics of the song etc.
then interestingly as the song goes to the bridge, the beat reverts back to the introductory beat. the bridge is interesting because as the strings come into full capacity for around 10 seconds with jungkook harmonizing with it as well. then at 2:47, taehyung comes in briefly before jungkook takes over at 2:54. yet one could tell how the underlying beat is just driving the whole song at this point. that nice solid note that jungkook delivered at 2:58 has my heart swelling in pride.
then the final chorus kicks in with seokjin at 3:03 and interestingly, one could hear that doubling is being used, prolly done by jimin. yet, when jungkook takes over, seokjin is harmonizing with jungkook with his high notes. at the same time, the beat becomes more consistent etc then jimin finishes the song with jungkook harmonizing with him. then at 3:29, the song ends and it begins with the same intro melody.
lyrics: talk about some deep meanings behind these lyrics; one would know how these lyrics depict settings more this time round
such as here.
Moving on
=
The clock’s needle that has no way of moving Is moving on now, as if taking one step at a time
that personification of the clock is so well done here, as if the clock needles are trudging.
What is what?
=
It sounds like there are multiple meanings behind your words, so what is what?
the underlying facade between the words spoken.
=
It deepens the more time passes Right now I am in between your past and future
these kind of lyrics in which you are a constant, being between past and future.
I wanna know everything
=
If mysterious footprints are found, follow My shadows are cornered What is hidden behind the light? Only you, who I cannot meet, knows my answer Before it breaks off I wanna know everything
for some reason, there is this sense of mystery, a lot of facades etc. maybe that is why the song title is ‘dont leave me’ so that despite everything that is hidden, hopefully they won't leave.
Calling me passing me すれ違い All of it destiny それでも始まる One way race 離れ始めても That’s ok You don’t gotta worry bout a thing Nah not a thang Your thoughts
=
Calling me passing me Crossing paths without meeting, all of it destiny Even so, it starts, one way race Even if we begin to drift apart that’s ok You don’t gotta worry bout a thing Nah not a thang This time it’s my turn to send it I’ll definitely deliver them, your thoughts
this next verse done by the rapline is really interesting as all of the rapline had some lines.
=
We could have a fresh start if time could be turned back But, even so, you, who is between shadow and light, cries
also, i realise they like to mention light and shadow - contrasting ideas etc.
but moving on, if you notice the choruses, there is a slight change in the last few lines.
=
Don’t leave me I believe, I start running No ending, you are my heartbeat Even if I’m struck by rain Even if I’m erased by darkness I will definitely save you You are not alone
=
Don’t leave me I believe, I reach out to you No ending, you are my hope Even if I’m struck by rain Even if I’m erased by darkness Feel it without closing your eyes You are not alone
those last few lines definitely make a difference. as if to say that no matter what, they are there right next to the person.
but what wraps it up is the bridge.
=
In seconds, everything goes to the past I understood the meaning of living in the present Because I met you
i really love how they put the emphasis on the person to reinstate how important the person is to them that despite the time differences ( of past, present or future ) and despite knowing them through and through ( light and shadow ), they would always want them etc.

last thoughts: truly a song that i love together with the instrumentation through and through. a song that i could easily categorise together with House of Cards, that whole dynamic angst feeling, oh sign me up.

Airplane Analysis
this is the analysis for Hoseok’s mixtape’s 6th track: airplane
i will be analysing several components - music, lyrics and aesthetics
disclaimer: this is just my personal opinion, feel free to disagree. do let me know your thoughts in my ask box
Tumblr media
overall: this is the 2nd and last mv of hoseok’s mix tape. and based on the daydream mv, it was most likely that airplane would be the one with an mv. a laid-back song honestly but it definitely had the hint of hoseok inside.
music: so the song starts off with some synths, a little taste of what the song would sound like. honestly, this is one of the songs that had an intro that actually leads on to the song itself unlike the other tracks that had unrelated introductions. interesting way to be honest. an interesting choice of synths and then at 0:07, there is this sound that sounds like a bird’s cry. ( don’t get me wrong, but it sounds like possibly a synthesized eagle/hawk ).
but anyway, moving on, there is this twinkling that comes in right before hoseok starts off at 0:16 and here, there is no percussion but just a melody of synths.
his vocal tone here is really interesting because he tries to enunciate each word well. only at 0:26, another layer of synth is being introduced to complement the main beat. then at 0:31, did hoseok did some adlibs as a lead-in before the chorus comes in at full force with the introduction of some different synths that become the percussion.
the chorus has a lot of adlibs in between as a form of doubling and to also fill in the spaces in between.
at the same time, there is the introduction of a keyboard being played, but a rather simple melody. only at 0:45, did the chorus end and the whole beat simmers down to one where hoseok continues his verse.
hoseok raps really calmly here with some doubling here and only did the beat change at 1:04 in which he speeds up his rapping and then one could hear that hoseok is full out doubling. then at 1:14, hoseok managed to include the sound of a camera going off to complement his lyrics. then he quickly wraps up his verse with ‘god bless’ before he moves on to the chorus at 1:20.
see, at this chorus, there isn’t much difference except for the fact that this chorus has an extended part even including a ‘hey yeah’ at 1:43 before hoseok wraps up his part. hoseok even includes the doubling here as well with ‘smile smile smile’.
only at 1:52 was there a change when the song went to the bridge. the same underlying beat to be like the intro. only at 2:08 did the percussion come in. not to mention the sound effect at 2:17 as well, like wind just blew. then at 2:20, he increases the pace of his rap.
then at 2:24, the chorus comes in again but the difference is with the underlying beat of the song, it’s rather empty here. only at 2:40 did the chorus come at fill force with the extended version of it.
only at 2:57 did the song come to and end to sound like the beginning of the song but inclusive of the sound of the airplane flying over and ending with the twinkling sound.
lyrics: this song talk about how Hoseok feels as though he achieved his dream when he flies in an airplane, especially considering that he has never flown in one before.
God bless
=
I still can’t believe it A native of Gwangju’s admiration for flight In my dream’s place that was up high, high I’m flying above the beautiful world Always, when I’m onboard I still think about The excitement I felt flying towards Japan for the first time Because that launched my dream Because it made the present now Everywhere Right now, I’m an issue man, when the flash goes off I will place blessings for a safe arrival God bless
here, Hoseok talks about his story about how he didn't really think that he would actually board a plane until bangtan flew to Japan for the first time for their activities and promotions.
he also talks about that now wherever bangtan goes, there’s a lot of news reporters and hence the flashes go off and bangtan makes the headlines - hence an issue man.
and he would conclude a safe arrival etc.
Drink champagne in my airplane
=
I remember me from that time When the parched grounds set me on fire I ran looking at the blue sky Now I fly to my heart’s content in the airplane
Someone curses the heck of me Those people’s jealousy make them lonely I don’t care, it just makes me laugh Drink champagne in my airplane
at first, i couldnt understand the lyrics of Hoseok’s chorus, but i guess it meant as though now he has an escape if he is in the airplane unlike when he is on ground and reality sinks in ( maybe i dont know )
but the next verse and he is blunt about saying that haters are just lonely people and he’ll enjoy his time in the airplane sipping on his champagne
=
Above the clouds everyday Above the clouds everyday My Feel above the clouds Check it above the clouds Chemistry with the clouds All day long with the clouds The fun of riding the clouds, looking at the clouds fade in You guys won’t know maybe Because of the few years of flying When my mileage is at few hundred thousands Is when I comfort you guys who weren’t able to achieve it I will give you a present with those flight points Love airplane mode All care is off, regardless of whatever someone is doing I’ll just keep to first (class) And look at the night sky To match with my current place
this bridge and extended verse, Hoseok shows his versatility in his rapping.
but looking at the lyrics, i guess one would be able to relate to him especially if you keep on flying, the excitement of being in a plane fades off eventually.
his subtle diss about giving the mileage points as a gift to his haters who aren't able to fly as much ( basically implying that they didnt make it big )
but those last few lines, Hoseok says he’ll keep to first class to match his current place ( aka bangtan made it big and achieved so much etc )
really, well-written lyrics that come from experience
Reference: Colour Coded ©
aesthetics: i feel as though the aesthetics here are very interesting, showing Hoseok in a lot of barren places such as empty carparks both inside and outside etc, lots of scenes focus on Hoseok
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
also, not to mention the fixed symbol of the airplane throughout the mv
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
also, that beginning scenes of the city view that one could probably see in an airplane taking off or landing
Tumblr media
moving on, there are several scenes of Hoseok in a room with the background changing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
also, those few close-up scenes of Hoseok in which the colour schemes change, heck yes
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
such a chill video aesthetics overall with little fixed colour palettes
last thoughts: truly an interesting song that showcases hoseok’s feelings towards riding an airplane etc.

Steve Aoki ) Analysis
this is the analysis for the 3rd track of bangtan’s love yourself 轉: tear.
i will be analysing several components - music and lyrics
disclaimer: this is just my personal opinion, feel free to disagree. do let me know your thoughts in my ask box
Tumblr media
overall: one of the best vocal line songs; even though there only have been a few. i feel as though this song really showcased all of the various and distinct vocal colors and tones of the vocal line while still conveying the emotions in every word they sing. this is what i call growth.
not to mention that this song featured Steve Aoki, who i would safely assume that took part in the producing of this track.
music: i really love how taehyung starts off this song right off the first second together with the soft piano melody playing in the background. see, taehyung has a really deep baritone vocal colour and it just sets the whole vibe of the song to be one that’s more mellow and soulful.
i love how there is no percussion yet inside, it’s just mainly the soft melodic piano playing several chords in the background to keep the pacing of the vocal line.
at 0:09, taehyung includes a small adlib of humming in between his lines to fill in the gap; sort of like harmonizing with the piano melody. then he finishes his part.
however, interestingly the piano melody ends with him as well before only coming in at 0:18 when jungkook starts his part as well. jungkook also does the humming in between his lines to fill up the space.
only at 0:35, did the piano sort of picked up pace in which the piano deviated from chords to do a bit of subtle melody in tune to seokjin’s part which is the prechorus. interesting that seokjin’s vocal colour shines the most here as he sorts of add the tension in the prechorus which is needed before it leads into the chorus by jimin.
interesting that jimin had a line right before the chorus at 0:51 which becomes the lead-in to the chorus at 0:53. one could tell that this is the chorus because of the prominent bass notes that the piano is playing; being very abrupt and amplified to emphasize the lyrics as well.
then the chorus comes in and at 1:07, jungkook takes over with the continuous prominent bass notes being played. within the first line of jungkook’s part, his vocal tone is one of more desperation. but here is where the piano begins to build up as well.
interesting that when the chorus ends, it goes back to this mellow piano melody. and only at 1:36, after a few seconds of that melody did the next verse start. this time with Seokjin. and seokjin’s nice humming is such a key feature at 1:45. then he changes his vocal tone a bit at 1:47. interesting, they just dive right in the prechorus at 1:51 with jimin. but trust me when the chorus starts at 2:08 with taehyung - what a change???
see, taehyung has the lowest vocal timbres and tones in the vocal line and so when he starts off the chorus, it’s such a nice contrasting feel to jimin’s higher range.
and when taehyung does the chorus, one could feel his soul and emotions in his part . personally, i think he expresses it the best especially when he has this little shout of exasperation at 2:13. yet, interesting that the piano remains the sole instrument throughout and eventually builds up as jungkook takes over at 2:25. interesting that the piano is the only instrument inside but at 2:39, there is the introduction of a violin and is even more prominent at 2:42 together with the synths and jungkook’s voice; those soft whispers.
but at 2:58, one would hear seokjin straight away diving into the climax and ending with his voice. such a quick build up but yet doesn’t sound one bit uncomfortable at all. also at 3:03, there is more usage of the drums having a melody; not to mention that jungkook is harmonizing throughout even when jimin takes over 3:15. those great adlibs.
then at 3:32, jimin just ends his part with ‘but i still want you’ and the whole instrumentation just comes crashing in even when jungkook is subtly doing his part. even at 3:53, when the song is about to end, one wild hear the electric guitar being used in sync with the violin then jimin ends the whole song.
lyrics: i honestly am so touched by all the lyrics; it’s written so well. the reason why i say this is because it ties singularity, together with fake love and with the concept of Smeraldo.
again, just to refresh, Smeraldo was a flower that was created because of this man’s love.
now to put it in context.
=
This garden is filled With blossoming loneliness
this intro already has got my attention, it’s so beautiful.
You know that I can’t Show you me Give you me But I still want you
=
You know that I can’t Show you me Give you me I can’t show you my weakness So I’m putting on a mask to go see you But I still want you
here, it shows as though love that was forbidden was blossoming, a mask is needed for this ‘love’ to pursue, hence being fake love.
=
A flower that resembles you Blossomed in this garden of loneliness I wanted to give it to you As I take off this stupid mask
here, it is safe to say that the flower being referred to is Smeraldo.
But I know 영원히 그럴 수는 없는 걸 숨어야만 하는 걸 추한 나니까
=
But I know This can’t go on forever I must hide Because I’m ugly
I’m afraid So pathetic I’m so afraid In the end, will you leave me too? So I’m putting on a mask to go see you
these lyrics really hit a nerve. he shows his insecurities of revealing himself in the garden, hence putting on that mask. doesn't this kinda remind you of the Phantom of the Opera?
But I still want you I still want you
=
What I can do is To make a pretty flower That resembles you Blossom in this garden, in this world Then breathe as the person you know But I still want you I still want you
Maybe back then If I had just a little more Courage And stood before you Would everything be different now?
this shows how they are rethinking, if they had some courage and admitted their love without the mask, would it be different?
they show their regrets.
And I still want you
=
I’m crying At this sandcastle That’s disappearing And breaking down As I look at this broken mask And I still want you
they are referring to the sandcastle in the beginning of the lyrics which are these.
=
This garden is filled With blossoming loneliness I tied myself To this sand castle filled with thorns
theres a sense of sadness when you read these lyrics. maybe the whole reality that when they revealed themselves to the girl in the garden, without the mask, drove her away, and so that sand castle that they were once tied to crumbled as well.
i just love these lyrics so much.

last thoughts: what a different vibe of a vocal line song. emotions expressed so well. there’s a certain rawness to their voices here and thats what makes it even great.

Love Yourself 轉 Tear Analysis
this is the overview of bangtan’s 3rd full album: LY 轉 Tear.
disclaimer: this is just my personal opinion, feel free to disagree. do let me know your thoughts in my ask box
Tumblr media
overall: this album has been anticipated by many especially since it was meant to be a continuation of the Love Yourself series that bangtan has been promoting in late 2017!
Though bighit has actually released the Love Yourself Wonder: Euphoria film that they had mentioned in several news articles, they released the next instalment of the Love Yourself series with Love Yourself: Tear. Not to mention how Namjoon literally took part in the producing of all the tracks with Yoongi and Hoseok taking part in 8 of them and our Golden Maknae with one song!!!!
One would know this based on the hints of their 2017 year-end shows. And so, here it is.
intro: singularity: okay, so I actually already gussed that this intro would be done by Taehyung based on their DNA positions towards the end of the brdige ( in this theory ). Since Jimin was revealed followed by Jungkook, next would be Taehyung and the next one would be Seokjin.
This intro is definitely me favourite one out of all the intros so far. I really liked the overall vibe of the song. The soft, slow burn jazz is what I live for. Based on my Singularity analysis, I already mentioned how this song is something that I would prolly listen in some café, sipping some coffee and snapping my fingers as some form of poetry is being recited. ( call me cliché, but I believe this song just encompas this whole vibe )
I really believed Taehyung outdid himself with this intro, although it is slightly longer than the previous intros of bangtab, one must consider that this intro is actually much more slower than the rest in terms of the beats per minute and how there is a lot of space in between.
Truly a song that showcases Taehyung’s vocals, skills and even his dancing skills as seen in the MV ( also, aesthetics anyone?????? ) I am so proud of Taehyung right here.
fake love: To be honest, I must say that this title of the song already gives off a real miserable vibe about it. The title of it wasn’t actually released until it was stated in an article prior to the comeback.
The boys have mentioned to us before how excited and believe that this title track would hit it off and in fact it did!! It actually earned 35 PAK ( Perfect All Kill  ) before they even step foot in Korea since their comeback dropped.
I really love how the vibe of it is just oozing with BST; the whole sensual and intimate side of it coupled with the sadness of the HYYH series. Truly remarkable. A must-listen song.
It definitely showcased more of Seokjin’s underrated vocals together with the new styles of raps that the boys have been trying out especially Hoseok. Particularly, I enjoyed his rap the most. The choreography here is another plus point that has my eyes being so satisfied at the visuals and everything???
Bangtan, has truly outdid themselves this time round with this title track.
(Feat Steve Aoki):  another wonderful surprise by bangtan by gifting us with another vocal line song!! ( honestly, we are so spoiled because aside from the cyphers, bangtan still delivers vocal line songs!! )
so, while listening throughout the song, I have a feeling Steve Aoki prollu produced thi whole song or co-produced but im not too sure. Honestly, I loved the underlying beat of this whole song, one could consider it similar to a ballad especially from the intro itself with the piano and the soulful voice of Taehyung.
But one could also listen to this as a type of slow burn song as well especially with the lyrics ‘ but I still want you’. With the title itself being translated to ‘The sincerity that I couldn’t show before’; kinda reminded me of the Smeraldo flower which also means ‘The truth that couldn’t be told’.
I love how throughout this song, though there is a nice steady increase in the beats and percussion, it is still a rather slow burn, never actually exceeding the ‘peak’.
134340: im pretty sure this song is much like modern jazz, yet the synths kinda remind me a bit of 이사. But this could easily be altered to Michael Buble if you know what I mean.
Even tha rap done by the rapline especially Namjoon is more towards the laidback one. Also, I really love how there is the use of flutes rifght here which becomes the underlying beat. I loved how there is the use of a female voice that gives the conversation kind of feel in the song.
Also, the way that Seokjin does the bridge sounds a bit like the 80s kind of singing. Truly, it is much like a throwback but in a modern way?
낙원: the title of the song translates to ‘Paradise’. But moving on, I am still learning to grasp onto this song but maybe over some time, it might grow on me.
The synths here are pretty modern actually but the transition from Yoongi to Hoseok is truly one of the key features in this song and the doubling done by the vocal line that gives a much more fuller sound.
love maze: the instrumentals here sounds very traditional until the synths and percussions come in, giving it the modern spin off to something possibly like R&B.
magic shop: out of this whole album, this is one of my fav songs in the entire album actually. To think that Jungkook took part in the prioducing of this song and how that this is their 2ndfan song after 둘!셋! during the Wings era says something!!!
I really love at how calm this song is. The synths are the driving force of this whole song but im so thankful that it doesn’t override the voals of the group especially in the prechorus and chorus as this is where the highlight lies, within the lyrics of it.
Im surprised that the drop of the chorus isn’t so hard but yet it is deemed appropriate and the phrase ‘So show me” “I show you’ just striked a chord within me. I can just imagine the armys just singing along to bangtan truly.
airplane pt.2: honestly, just listening to the intro itself gives me the feel of some Carribean ballroom dancing song specifically th Cha Cha, that’s just how it is. One could easily tell how big the influence of South American music is inside here as well. I mean, you could literally dance to the Cha Cha with this song???
I was actually wondering how is this Airplane pt.2 until I heard Hoseok’s verse. I love how they kinda made a part 2 of Hoseok’s song Airplane and continued from Hoseok’s lyrics to say that now the boys are travelling around the world.
anpanman: this is the kind of song that has the same kind of vibe such as 21stCentury Girls, 고민보다고(GoGo). So, one could easily call this a trilogy to be hoenst. The same fun vibe mixed with a lot of aegyo and audience participation in a way that the dance would most likely involve making some signs or actions towards the audience and capture their hearts etc ( then again, when does bangtan never capture the hearts of their audience?? )
I was actually skeptical to how this is, especially with the title since some speculated that it could possibly be the Jaoanese cartoon superhero but it could also be the name of an asteroid considering the relations with 134340.
so what: this is a song that could be under the same category as Wings: Interlude and the full version of the Wings song, something similar to the kind of 80s disco feel.
outro: tear: let me start off by saying at how pumped I was to actually hear the melodic instrumentals from the 3rdHighlight Reel, specifically (Tear). it is the instrumentals that would increase in terms of volume, speed and percussion that gives off an ominous feeling; and based off the 3rdHighlight Reel, this is where, everything starts to collapse. ( on a side note, I really loved all of the instrumentals from the highlight reel ( I actually enjoyed it by themselves, it’s one whole story itself and it is great )
But I love the twist in which, instead of some kind of slow burn rap down by the rap line, this outro could be considered to be one of the hard songs despite the instrumentals at the beginning. This could easily be one of the songs from Dark and Wild and I wouldn’t even tell the difference except that maybe the rapping styles of the Yoongi and Hoseok have changed slightly. This is especially with Yoongi’s more melodic lines but the breakdown of the underlying beats is easily one of the cypher ones.
The rapline has done it again.
last thoughts: although this album was meant to have more darker themes, I actually expected something like dark and wild in which almost 60% of the songs were just heavily influenced by the heavy angst and rebellious teens so this time round, I was expecting some heavy angst from a recent heartbroken person. Also, they mentioned how this was meant to have some semblamce of rock but only the music structure is of rock but the song itself doesn’t sound like rock.
But regardless, another quality album of bangtan especially with how they mixed their various styles from their earlier albums. One could tell how much they have grown with this album and I could never feel as proud.

Blue Side (Outro) Analysis
this is the analysis for Hope World’s Outro: Blue Side
i will be analysing several components - music and lyrics
disclaimer: this is just my personal opinion, feel free to disagree. do let me know your thoughts in my ask box
Tumblr media
overall: honestly, this outro is amazing??? at first, i wasn’t so fond of it but this is great ?? i could listen to this all day and i wouldn’t be tired ??? i even fell asleep while listening to this so, there’s my justification.
music: one would hear the soft drumming of a hi-hat before the organ is being played. i love how the sound just resonates, putting a lot of emphasis towards the organ’s notes. only at 0:16, did hoseok’s voice come in together with this synth that signaled a new phase of the song.
at the same time, for the underlying beat, one could hear the use of those seashell structures that could be found at the beach, specifically those beach houses, making tinkling sounds when the breeze passes by. i love how he integrated this sound inside, it keeps me at peace.
at 0:20, one could hear that there’s this filter sound of some sort of trumpet being used that indicates that melodic rhythm along with the underlying beat. at 0:25, one could hear that there’s hoseok’s adlibs underneath the beat.
i love how at 0:34, there is this synth that is in crescendo that would signify the drop of the chorus. nicely at 0:37, the sound is gone for 1 second before it comes back in, the sound as if being sucked in. then it comes back with the sound of sort of a filtered ‘thunderclap’ to which only the percussion comes in at full force together with some electric guitar sounds.
i love this so much because the filtered sound of hoseok’s voice with hoseok’s constant ‘blue side’ that layers with it is so beautiful and well done. it doesn’t sound very jagged at all.
though the verses are actually quite repetitive, i don’t find it annoying at all despite the underlying beat is quite repetitive as well. I think it has to do with the rhythm in which it has to be quite captivating for the listener to listen to. especially if this is an outro, it is meant to end the whole album/mixtape on a good note, it is the ending after all.
one could also hear that there is the use of some maracas or castanets inside but it is very filtered and it blends in with the percussion.
only at 1:01, did hoseok do the whole sucking in of the sound as now the whole song is coming to end, it’s slowing down. i really like the slowdown of it, as it feels as if the whole mixtape is coming to an end.
only at 1:04, the use of the bass guitar is very prominent here and it is definitely playing great melodies. together with hoseok’s constant ‘blue side and back to blue side’ gives a lot of attention towards the pieces of the bass guitar. this coupled with the seashell chimes are what makes anyone at ease, it just feels as though one would be at the beach, with the sort of carribean opening but ending it with the waves by the beach, or at least that’s what i feel. truly a piece.
lyrics: i honestly love how simple the lyrics are, it’s so comforting to hear as well
=
Inside my blue dream I want to contain you Even if you say no Inside my eyes
here, hoseok talks about wanting to keep someone in his dream, even if it is temporary
=
Inside my blue dream I want to hold you Even if you say we can't Inside my embrace
here, it almost sounds forbidden, but he still wants to enjoy this moment
Reference: Genius ©
last thoughts: honestly i wish there was a longer version of this, i really enjoyed all the versatility of hoseok’s tones. it’s so beautiful, hoseok is truly an underrated vocalist.

Singularity Analysis
this is the analysis for Love Yourself 轉 Tear: Intro, Singularity.
i will be analysing several components - music, lyrics, aesthetics and choreography
disclaimer: this is just my personal opinion, feel free to disagree. do let me know your thoughts in my ask box
Tumblr media
overall: this is one of my fav intros of all time, not because of the fact that the mv was so aesthetically pleasing it but beyond that the whole jazz vibe and R&B feel mixed with 90s fashion and 50s fashion style and the myriad of past bangtan aesthetics has got me feeling things.
music: this could easily be considered as one of the longest intros that bangtan ever did since most of them usually last 1-2mins + even inclusive of some scenes from mv. but one has to note that the bpm of this intro, singularity, is way more slower than the rest, hence enhancing taehyung’s vocals more than ever. i really love that there is so much space throughout the song and this makes it a key point.
anyway, the song starts off with this synth and then some light hitting of the hi-hats for one second before taehyung’s voice comes through to bless our ears. notice that he doesn’t use his falsetto voice and this is the rawrest form of his voice without having to make his voice an octave lower or anything. this is taehyung.
one could hear by 0:03, that there is a use of the bass guitar that amplified the whole  jazz feel that the intro is about. i love how they made the intro to be one of taehyung’s genre to showcase his talent and also the fact that taehyung mentioned before how much he loves jazz and even played the saxophone when he was younger.
in certain parts of taehyung’s lines, there is the beat of the percussion that emphasizes the first count etc and also the key point of this whole intro is actually the space that could be seen throughout the song.
then at 0:12, one could hear the use of the piano/keyboard inside, one of the classic instruments for jazz. to be honest, i think if they put in some saxophone, i believe this would be on a whole new level. also, think of it as with the whole lot of space in between the song, certain parts are elongated to give a special effect.
only at 0:27, one could hear the slight use of cymbals to signal the start of the next section of the song. at 0:33, the use of synths is prominent yet again, something that makes it modern. specifically, one could hear the use of a woodblock at 0:37 before there is this sound at 0:39, that stops the whole music before it comes back in at 0:41, with that sweet breakdown of the instrumentals. also love the whole whisper vibe that makes it sensual as well. then at 0:46, there is this calculated pause before taehyung goes ‘oh’ and one beat right after, the piano comes into play to finish the harmony. then at 0:53, some synths are used before the chorus drops.
the chorus is my favorite part, with that short drum intro before taehyung’s vocals goes into full swing. one could hear the pain and angst in his voice as he purposefully makes his voice louder and more raw. at 0:59, there is this rawnesss to it, with how the synths are in diminuendo. taehyung’s vocals only returning at 1:01, the wait was worth it as it shines some light on the hi-hat that has been constant though light and subtle.
again at 1:07, taehyung practices the use of space to his advantage to enhance his vocals more. at the next part of the chorus, the increase in the volume of taehyung is important, one could feel the desperation and pleas in his voice. then at 1:20, the light is shone on the instrumentals hence giving that whole jazz vibe feeling. then at 1:21, one could hear the drums now even more coming into play before it transitions to the verse yet again.
then at 1:25, taehyung is using that whisper voice yet again since he’s at the verse, with the underlying electric bass guitar. mhm, definitely digging this vibe. his voice returns at 1:31. at 1:37, there is that familiar sound of the piano yet again.
at 1:49 specifically, one could tell that there is some adlibs underlying taehyung’s vocals as well. then there is the same drum rhythm before the prechorus starts actually, in which taehyung raises a notch of his voice but not loud enough to be the chorus. i love his like at 2:16 as he drags the note before transitioning to the chorus yet again.
so with the chorus, nothing much has changed from the previous one except here there is the use of doubling that is very obvious but im not sure if it’s taehyung or jungkook. but at 2:51, one could hear the crystal voice of taehyung’s adlibs much like to the same voice he used in Stigma. then at 2:59, taehyung even squeeze a few more adlibs in the spaces as well!!
but towards the end, one could see how his doubling here has softened down as the song begins to see it’s end before that final abrupt ending with the instrumental.
lyrics: so according to this tweet, it seemed as though Namjoon was the one behind this masterpiece. Namjoon wrote the lyrics after he was discharged from the hospital as he recently had a surgery.
the meaning of singularity is the state, fact, quality, or condition of being singular. in other words, it could be seen as loneliness.
=
A sound of something breaking I awake from sleep A sound full of unfamiliarity
from the first verse, we could already see the loneliness that Taehyung has not grown accustomed to at all
=
A crack again on this frozen lake I dumped myself into the lake Over the winter lake I was thrown
here, it shows detailed descriptions about the frozen lake, remember earlier how Taehyung mentioned something breaking, could that be the frozen lake? as it melts?
hence why there is this line ‘보지만 결국 엔 언젠가 봄이와, 얼음들은 녹아 내려 흘러 가 = But in the end, spring will come someday, The ice will melt and flow away’. remember spring day, the same lyrics of ‘추운 계울 끝을 지나, 다시 봄날이 올 때까지 = Past the end of this cold winter, Until the spring comes again’. that subtle link Namjoon, kudos to you.
=
A thick ice has formed In the dream I shortly went into My agonizing phantom pain is still the same Have I lost myself
here, Taehyung mentions how regardless, even in his dreams, loneliness is something he cant escape from, the pain is still. but the fact that he ended this verse with a question of whether he lost himself but continued in the prechorus whether he had gained ‘you’ ( his lover )
i guess this could be seen as some internal dilemma, im not too sure as to why he would debate if he had lost himself or gained his lover. usually, people say they lost themselves because now they feel empty without their other significant other but when he said ‘gained you’ perhaps his lover before they ended things was experiencing loneliness, and hence gained ‘you’.
=
Or have I gained you I suddenly run to the lake There’s my face in it Please don’t say anything
here, Taehyung confirms in his dream that he is indeed alone, hence not wanting anyone to question him, he needed some time to take it all in.
Tell me 내 목소리가 가짜라면 = Tell me if my voice isn’t real
specifically, i found this line intriguing. it means to say that usually after being alone, one wouldn't be his usual self, hence not being real despite being physically there.
=
If I shouldn’t have thrown myself away Tell me if even this pain isn’t real What I was supposed to do back then
however, this last few lines before the song ends hit me deep. these show some kind of inner turmoil, as if there is some kind of underlying regret to fall in love if only in the end, he would be lonely. so that last line of where he questions what was he supposed to do back then, maybe he couldnt help but fall in love, love is an emotion that isn't forced so i guess he let it flow and maybe that is his biggest regret as now he experiences singularity.

aesthetics: honestly my eyes were so pleased as i watched this video. not to mention how this intro was a fair bit longer than others. this means many more great scenes, don’t even get me started.
after watching the whole video, i get the whole I Need U JP flower theme, with BST kind of vibes, BST JP. filters, sets from DNA, ‘90s fashion mixed with ‘50s-‘60s props, modern soft jazz with a possible impending House of cards feel for the other songs in the album.
this is with the whole filters being used as well as the various sets used. to be honest not many sets used, however one could feel as such due to the vast changes in lighting as seen below.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
let me just start off that taehyung’s visuals don’t lie, you can clearly see how handsome he looks at all angles, this is why he’s 2017’s no. 1 most handsome man.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
not to mention how he is definitely rocking the mullet so for all of you who didn’t like it, piss off, it’s not your hair, it’s his. but moving on, i really love the use of the props here, it’s something new and very old-fashioned.
the colour palette is very refreshing here as it goes to extreme ends of darkness and light, not to mention the bright colours of red, pink, blue, purple.
Tumblr media
those few scenes that focused on his hands, that is so sensual in so many ways, but that unrequited love and look in his eyes help me. also, that is his right hand but they way he portrayed his dancing made it seem he has a partner but of course that is impossible since he has a clothestand right next to him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
that moment when he pouts down the other hand yet that hand grabs his chin, heck yeah.
Tumblr media
im weak plus the whole feel of the backup dancers oh wow. thank you. for some reason, with the back up dancers, it feels like they are separate entities of Taehyung, much like how there are voices in our minds ( but you can consider it far-fetched ).
Tumblr media
and then at 0:36, there is this brief scene of Taehyung extending his hand out, a nice white scene in contrast to the more darker ones earlier; so a nice change on Lumpens part.
Tumblr media
then at 0:37, that blast of red light with a hint of yellow is greatly satisfying, and that short clip of him dancing together with the back up dancers, thank you for this.
Tumblr media
also, since the lyrics explain about a frozen lake, throughout the video, there are several scenes of the frozen lake such as at 0:41, 2:24, 2:50 etc
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
then if you’d notice, there is that brief scene much like the DNA MV at 0:46, 1:13 etc
Tumblr media Tumblr media
now that i think about it, pretty sure those scenes at 0:37 and at 0:46 are the same just that different lighting.
and heck yeah when the mv transits to the whole jabawockeez and phantom of the opera aesthetic/theme, because i am digging it so much, the contrast of the masks and his clothes together with the complete black surroundings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
also, those formations with the masks are used so well here and so in sync.
then if you noticed at 1:13-1:14, one could see Taehyung stepping into some kind of water which would end up being this room decorated with flowers and a small pool in between.
Tumblr media
suddenly, the video just transits to a close-up of Taehyung at 1:22, for some reason, if you'd like at it here, it doesn't exactly look like Taehyung at first glance, possibly Jungkook until you turn your head upside down. even at 1:58, when there is that closeup scene of Taehyung, at first glance, i really thought it was Jungkook with those blue contacts such as in BST.
Tumblr media
that shot of the neon pink filter at 1:32 just reminds me of BST JP.
Tumblr media
at 1:33, all the back up dancers now have their own clothestands and doing the same moves as Taehyung.
Tumblr media
also, there is this sudden shot of Taehyung’s feet gliding across and for some reason, it just feels calming yet very pleasing to the eye as the rest of the scene is surrounded by flowers.
Tumblr media
then it moves on to a full zoom-out shot of Taehyung slouching against the wall with the flowers growing right next to him. slowly at 1:43, the light shines on his face, that effect and glow.
Tumblr media
then at 1:47, there is the scene of Taehyung in his white outfit lying down in what seems in a dark forest and possibly the frozen lake nearby (?).
Tumblr media
then at 1:59, it shows a part of Taehyung dancing yet again - this time with the background in white, so a huge contrast to the previous scene. also, there is this brief shot of the colourful flowers at 2:03 before it goes back to filming Taehyung dancing yet again. also, it then transits at 2:05 to show a shot of Taehyung slouching against the wall before coming back to focus on the dance at 2:08.
Tumblr media
also, that brief shot at 2:10, that shows a glimpse of Taehyung as if in between some narrow doors; even at 2:17.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
interesting at 2:28, it goes back to the whole mask aesthetic yet again but in full swing.
at 2:30, the shot of Taehyung slouching against the wall but with a blue filter this time round.
Tumblr media
yet interesting at 2:31, Taehyung is now seen to be holding a flower, while controlling the movements of the masks here; even at 2:39 in the formation of a square.
Tumblr media
also, can we please appreciate the transition from 2:35-2:36 because Taehyung just looks this good????
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i love how Taehyung just kinda passed the flower to the back-up dancers at 2:40 and the flower just travels across the darkness.
Tumblr media
also, that show of Taehyung at 2:45, i just want to print it and frame it, no excuses.
Tumblr media
with at 2:50, the sun moves away from his face and it goes back into darkness, thank you to the lighting team.
Tumblr media
at 2:47, we see Taehyung’s close-up yet again as he holds that same colourful flower that was seen for a while in one of the scenes.
Tumblr media
then pay attention to how at 2:49, Taehyung places the mask on his face, as if it was a perfect fit.
Tumblr media
somehow, the mood shifts to a darker one (if it could possibly get anymore darker ) at 2:53, as Taehyung stands in the ‘lake’.
Tumblr media
but this quickly changes to focus on the dance yet again at 2:58. also, do focus on his facial expression here too. and at 3:13, there was a scene of Taehyung cupping the water and letting it fall.
Tumblr media
then the scene of Taehyung gliding his hand across the water, as if trying to erase his reflection away.
Tumblr media
afterwards, it shows a scene of Taehyung covering his eyes before transitioning to the scene of Taehyung wearing a mask with one side dripping with some weird ink/paint. gothic i like it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
choreography: in all of the intros, bangtan has never really had a choreography for an intro except for Boy Meets Evil during the Wings era that Hoseok, as expected of the dance captain, to live to his expectations.
what i really love of this choreo done by keone madrid ( thank you for all the great and amazing choreo that you did for bangtan eg. fire, boy meets evil etc  ) specifically is the use of props specifically those mannequins/clothestand that’s very popular during the 50s-60s feel where many wear coats and fedoras to clubs and cabarets were a norm too.
the use of those clothestand made every single move so much more sensual, and intimate without even much effort needed. every detail of the hand’s and fingers’ movement captured and giving off that personal intimate effect that compliments the vocals of taehyung and of the beat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but moving on, i didn’t expect such a ‘fast-moving’ choreo as taehyung did during the whole chorus, those quick movements that explain and describe the lyrics of singularity. especially when coupled with those quick movements of his feet??
Tumblr media
let alone having these talented backup dancers for taehyung’s intro, aren’t we all blessed ???
Tumblr media
what i love is when taehyung ends the chorus in his vibrato voice while lightly popping, this is what i call intimate yet still coming back to the whole soft vibe of the song in the end.
dont you ever forget about Taehyung and the masks much like Jabawockeez, i love it and possibly phantom of the opera.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
don’t ever tell me that taehyung can’t dance because look honey, look at this video and you’ll know why.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
last thoughts: definitely an intro i would remember and would be one of my top favs easily. this is the type of song id sip coffee with, have a cute beret on, read some poetry and evidently snapping my fingers because of how this slow jazz, slow burn, underlying angst mixed with some subtle R&B feels. thank you taehyung, ill look forward to the whole angst album that is to blow my mind away.

Base Line Analysis
this is the analysis for the 4th track of Hoseok’s mixtape, the interlude.
i will be analysing several components - music and  lyrics.
disclaimer: this is just my personal opinion, feel free to disagree. do let me know your thoughts in my ask box
Tumblr media
overall: this was my favorite track throughout hoseok’s mixtape. i really love the heavy beat that’s been going on in the song. hoseok did mention that this was supposed to be an interlude hence it being short. not to mention that he produced and wrote this track ( i am so proud ) but damn, did i wish it was longer.
music: i figured by the 2nd track already that hoseok has a thing for having some intros that are unrelated to the actual song that he wishes to bring across. in his whole mixtape, it testifies this.
moving on, the song started with an interesting intro, sounds and synths that im unfamiliar with. i can’t exactly put my finger on it on which instrument/synth sound is he using, but trust me I really love it. it kinda sounds something a bit jazzy in my opinion, and reminds me of accordions and France to be honest. then there is this short bubbling synth that is very filtered afterwards. but in reality, the moment there was the line ‘wa-watch the base line’ did we all know, this is the real deal coming soon.
then he hit us with neh at 0:04, and the real beat comes in. it’s so good that it’s so hip hop style and a style that’s going hard etc. then one could tell that he emphasizes a lot on ‘baseline’ by placing more emphasized on those words.
then at 0:10, he did a quick few adlibs before he changes his tone of voice to sound as though he is doubling his own lyrics etc. the beat is just mainly percussion’s and his voice.
at 0:15, his tone of voice changes again and it sounds more swag-filled as if he knows what he is doing. honestly his voice is very versatile as one could see here.
at 0:24, the tone of his voice changes yet again. here, he sounds more as if he is speaking really coolly, but to make up for the lack of sound apart from the beat, there a few adlibs here and there such as at 0:35.
at 0:36, the tone changes yet again to something more playful this time round as he squeezes in adlibs etc and some doubling.
at 0:47, he uses the speaking tone of his yet again as he captures the attention of the listeners. but here, one could tell that the beat slightly changed in which there is an introduction of this ‘breathing/panting’ sound much like hoseok has been running from the base line ( often seen in tennis courts and given hoseok’s history to have played tennis before ).
at 0:55, there is a quick synth before the song transitions to another part in which hoseok yet again changes the tone of his voice, but it doesn’t sound too loud, giving way to the synth in crescendo to be dominant at this juncture. the use of drums is slightly different as it sounds a bit more like a filtered timpani, with the sound being more hollow and the occasional ‘short pants’ that become signal markers for the beats.
at 1:05, hoseok does his signatory ‘ack’ before his voice becomes more scratched and filtered here; something similar to of a deejay. here, the beat becomes more scratched up etc and the remixes of ‘base line’ and ‘hope world’ could be heard; hence an interesting relation. yet, throughout this, one could hear that the percussion is back to that of the intro and not the hollow drum sounds.
at 1:16, the beat takes a backseat before hoseok begins the last part of the song; using the voice meant for talking - one could tell that his voice here is laced with a lot of swag and attitude, even adding a scoff in between before the song ends with ‘watch the baseline’.
lyrics: i will always complain at how short this is but then again this is an interlude. hoseok please release a full track of this and watch make this my anthem as i walk the streets
genuinely, i was intrigued as to why hoseok used the phrase ‘base line’ but then again this is a common term in tennis, since im assuming he picked it up since he did mention before in several interviews that he played tennis.
base line is kinda like the foundation if im not mistaken so i guess he used it very well throughout this song.
starting with the opening, he starts it out already with clear ideas.
Base Line
=
The base line of my music The base line of my movement The base line in my life The base line of my success
=
Street dance 10 years Rap that's shaped through the rhythm of my body Now a name tag Top class But my life plan still boils my blood I'm earnest My music's dream still remains, so I work hard Every day
here, hoseok explains what is his foundation mainly starting with street dance before he trained under bighit and learning how to rap. he then shows  bangtan’s success through his lyrics ‘top class’ but he still says he is still humble with his music dream that he works hard.
=
I debuted because I worked harder than anyone I slept less and did more, for myself
here hoseok reminds us of his efforts, though he sleeps less, his hard work is paying off, hence eventually, in the long run, doing more for himself.
but the ending got to me because he ended the interlude with ‘watch the base line’. i feel as though he is trying to say advice to always ensure that one should always know where they have started, their foundation after all.

last thoughts: truly, i enjoy this song a lot, really love the versatility of hoseok’s voice and the level of hardness this song has. a definite groove not to be missed.

Daydream 백일몽 Analysis
this is the analysis for the 3rd track of Hoseok’s mixtape, the first to have a MV.
i will be analysing several components - music, lyrics and aesthetics.
disclaimer: this is just my personal opinion, feel free to disagree. do let me know your thoughts in my ask box
Tumblr media
overall: an interesting track to be the one with a mv; honestly i thought hope world would be the one with an mv just because i thought hope world was a better representation of hoseok. then again, maybe hoseok wanted to release something that was not expected hence daydream being the one with an mv.
music: the music starts off interestingly with some maracas and some clapping to set as the base of the song. then at 0:03, there is this resounding synth before hoseok starts to rap. one could hear that this synth is really subtle and has its own rhythm.
at 0:13, hoseok switches up his rap by slowing down despite the beat being constant. at 0:18, there is another change in hoseok’s rap indicated by the change of synth that is descending. at 0:29, hoseok switches his style of rap by breaking it down with that adlib of ‘yeah’ in between. then at 0:39, the beat changes slightly to which the maracas sounds more dominant.
here the prechorus sounds more muffled as the beat becomes dominant with some subtle keyboard pieces. what i love is the transition between the prechorus to chorus at 0:53.
here, the hoseok’s voice goes back to normal but he does his rap in a more singing kind of tone, clearly showing how he is having fun with the beat and showing how his voice is very versatile. in the chorus, there is another layer of synth inside which sounds a bit like scratching. then at 1:12, when hoseok says ‘daydream’ - one could tell how relaxed he was, clearly playing with the beat.
then at 1:27, there is this quick descending synth that kinda swallowed the beat before hoseok starts the next part of his verse at 1:28. here, one could tell that a xylophone is being used and hoseok is slowing down and that he is merely speaking the words rather than rapping it with little adlibs in between.
at 1:43, the maracas synth is introduced again as hoseok picks up speed of his rap.  here, one could hear that there is this melody of the keyboard that is very subtle. interesting at 1:59, he ended it with ‘sleep’ that is in a more breathy tone of his before moving on to the prechorus.
again the prechorus starts at 2:00 without much difference except that the beat is something similar to that of the intro. again with that different tone of hoseok’s voice.
then at 2:16, the chorus comes back in again. what is different now is that at 2:32, one could hear the sound of an alarm ticking at least twice before the chorus continues. an interesting pause and choice of sound considering that the title is ‘daydream’. at 2:35, the whole vibe of house music is back in again.
then at 2:50, there is this quick synth that descends down to go to the bridge of the song. here, the piano is dominant and the tone of hoseok’s voice changed yet again. i must say, his voice is very versatile. then at 3:05, the maracas is back in again that builds up before the chorus drops.
interesting tone of voice at 3:07, as now he is more towards singing than rapping; so he does the melodic and rap line.
then at 3:22, he goes back to the chorus but the change is that it is not as hard as the previous chorus that is full of the beats and synth. more like, hoseok stripped away these sounds to get a more raw sound of him to wrap up the song. in this last chorus, he adds more adlibs to make up for the lack of beats. then there is this spinning synth before the song ends with hoseok saying ‘wake up’ and the sound of a beeping alarm together with the flickering of a switch. honestly, really domestic choice of sounds to replicate and visualize a bedroom.
lyrics: i must say that the lyrics in this song carry some weight despite the peppy beat, a nice contradiction.
Love ma rule
=
Not, a reality refusal Discontent, misfitting Ain’t none of that Love ma rule
based on the annotation, it talks about how hoseok has reused his line from cypher pt.4 and brought it in this song. he talks about how he enjoys his public life but at the same time finds it tiring etc.
=
Like the hole Alice fell into Like the road that leads to Hogwarts It’ll be a world of mirages
hoseok is really pulling those references out of the literature books. i like the selection of his characters and phrases; such as alice in wonderland in which she was dreaming about all that happened through her in the movie and that for harry potter; the main protagonist who went to school of Hogwarts with all the magic and wizardry.
Shit
=
And it’ll be all mine It’ll be exactly how I imagined But it won’t last forever Shit
here, based on the annotation, i guess hoseok wants to make another reference to a book
Wishing on a Sky Wishing on a Scar Wishing on a Sky Wishing on a Scar
=
Wishing on a sky Wishing on a scar If there’s the sun I’d want to dream Wishing on a sky Wishing on a scar If there’s the moonlight I wouldn’t want to wake up
i find his chorus really addicting for some reason. at hindsight, i thought that i heard him wrong as he sang ‘wishing on a scar’. everyone knows you wish on a shooting star, but looking at the annotation, i could actually understand what hoseok is getting at. truly an underrated genius.
Deep sleep
=
No eggshell walking, errday I do what I want with my feelings, errday A love-expert sniping the heart when you fall in it, errday Work out on my desire without a formula, errday Ignore my character, errday Wanna cry with no shame, errday Dream list, the first priority With no concerns on money Deep sleep
i find these lyrics intriguing, it seems though hoseok refers to daydreaming as a way to escape reality and his responsibilities, to truly be who he is; hence the deep sleep to go back to daydreaming ( actually more like dreaming )
If I want something If I want something, now If I want something If I want something, now That’s a daydream They dream, they dream That’s a daydream Daydream, daydream Daydream, daydream Wake up
this is the outro and i must say, this is a bit interesting, considering this is a song with an outro. i like how he ends it with ‘wake up’ as if the whole time, the song was a daydream itself.
Reference: Genius ©
aesthetics: i must say his aesthetics here are really interesting - lots of bold colours and fuzzy prints as one could already tell from his hope world album cover.
it looks as though it was inspired heavily by pop art which one could tell hoseok got inspiration by Andy Warhol who was famous for his campbell soup and bold colours such as marilyn monroe.
Tumblr media
see, most of the scenes in the mv had bold colours, strict colours for one place etc, or if there are more colours, there’s an obvious contrast such as red, blue and yellow.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
hoseok has a thing for patterns as well - this monochrome and red and yellow scene.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so of course, there are a few sets for this mv as such.
the bedroom
Tumblr media
this wide room
Tumblr media
but i love this scene at 0:21 as it shows like as if hoseok is in an aquarium, i mean he has a lot of references to the aquatic life etc throughout his album though e.g., hope world and the feel of P.O.P. pt.1
Tumblr media
also, one could see that behind hoseok there are a few words such as hope and 희망 which just means hope in hangul. then again, we all know hosoek love his stage name - jhope.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i love how this mv also shows how hoseok is just grooving along to the beat; clearly having fun.
it also shows how hoseok likes to have multiple versions of himself in the video like he is dreaming
Tumblr media Tumblr media
then there are these few close-up shots of hoseok in various rooms
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and a few of them have these paintings along the walls
Tumblr media Tumblr media
honestly, i love the scene that focuses on hoseok’s feet as he dances since after all this genre of the song is house.
Tumblr media
but this scene is my favourite at 2:46!! because hoseok wears the same colours as the background which kinda looks like oil painting or possibly oil pastel!! i love aesthetics !!! also i love how it’s centred around yellow and blue which would make green - hoseok’s favourite colour
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i love the scene of hoseok just spinning before he flops onto the bed. it looks really appealing to me.
Tumblr media
also, i noticed how there are these few scenes that show hoseok through some rectangular box/portal thing
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but moving on, i like how hoseok also purposely left a few hints about the next mv being airplane, given the presence and sound of the airplane.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
lastly, the ending scene was so cute, as hoseok tries to tell himself to wake up from the daydream.
Tumblr media
anyway, there are some scenes in the MV that makes me ponder why they are there
1. the scene of hoseok sitting on the bed with the background being the desert
it is a common notion for those who wander around the deserts to see mirages of a lake because of their excessive dehydration
Tumblr media
2. this scene of Hoseok and some flamingo at the back
Tumblr media
again, with the whole desert theme
3. the scene of Hoseok sitting on top of himself much like he is dreaming and that the background is his album cover
Tumblr media
4. there is the scene of Hoseok watching this rocket take off and interestingly the smoke is blue ( cues. blue side )
Tumblr media
interesting they had this scene to sort of link how Hoseok would be in outer space
5. the scene of Hoseok’s bed in outer space, so i guess it means when you dream, you could go wherever you want
Tumblr media
6. then we have Hoseok answering a call from Arthur to then showing the screen to be ‘dont panic’
Tumblr media Tumblr media
8. then this aesthetic shot of the disco lights illuminating the room
Tumblr media
but anyway, i see hoseok’s aesthetics to be something similar of him, one that is bright with a mix of funkiness and playfulness
last thoughts: i think it is an interesting choice on hoseok;s behalf to have an MV based on this, but to see hoseok just freely grooving is great, and i love it.

Silver Spoon Analysis
this is the analysis for 뱁새 - the 6th track of bangtan’s 4th mini album, 화양연화 pt. 2
i will be analysing several components - music, lyrics and choreography.
disclaimer: this is just my personal opinion, feel free to disagree. do let me know your thoughts in my ask box
Tumblr media
overall: talk about a really hyped song that could easily be on par or even overtake dope. the heavy bass and lit song is what we all need once in a while to let loose.
music: the song already starts off with some heavy bass and synths that are so intense - one could already sense that this song is going to be hardcore without any lyrics yet; it’s just how it is. for some reason, the synths kinda sound really creepy and this underlying muffled bass complements the whole beat. not to mention this creepy keyboard melody that just seals the deal. it’s a full 10 seconds worth of soaking in the beat and ive never felt so hyped for it. then at 0:10, here comes the impending crescendo percussion that would lead to the chorus.
the chorus drops already with namjoon and one could hear how there is doubling already to enhance the sound of the song especially songs like this where people could easily sing along to etc. not to mention how namjoon’s style of doing this chorus with his volume of the voice only complements the song even more. not to mention that short adlib of ‘whoo’ at 0:19 and that part before yoongi continues at 0:22-0:23 to hype up the chorus even more ( who knew one could hype the chorus even more than it should !!!! ) also i love how the impending percussion comes around to signal the end of the chorus as well.
then hoseok starts off with his rap at 0:35 with a more relaxed tone to complement the beat that is less intense now. yet even at hoseok’s rap, there’s a lot of adlibs as well inside such as at 0:42 and 0:46. then it transitions quickly to namjoon taking over at 0:47, but the way he raps here is more enunciated to go with the beat now and interestingly namjoon’s part can be seen as a link between the rap and the prechorus especially since it’ll be repeated later on. then this quick synth comes in at 0:57 to signal taehyung’s part for the prechorus.
interestingly this prechorus is not driven so much by the percussion but rather driven by the brasses and synth that gives it a unique sound together with how taehyung does his part slightly differently as well. then there’s this percussion rhythm at 1:03 that becomes quite important as signal markers throughout the song. there’s this quick line at 1:12 before taehyung continues his prechorus again but with a voice slightly lighter; yet it still sounds full because of jungkook doubling for him.
the song then quickly transitions to 1:21 with the vocal line but more on jimin and taehyung as their voices stand out more here. oh, and that riff at 1:30 by jungkook and jimin that leads into the chorus by hoseok this time round- yet keeping the same intensity as the first chorus as though it hadn’t even changed. unexpectedly, there is no synth or percussion that builds in the intensity unlike other songs where one could easily predict the drop but for this case, it seemed as though one would already know when the drop would happen honestly- really interesting if you asked me. namjoon then come back to take over the second part of the chorus and one could hear the more prominent creepy synths being used.
then it moves on to yoongi’s part at 1:55 with namjoon doing a bit of doubling as well. but here the beat is less intense again, pushing the emphasis this time round to the lyrics of yoongi much like hoseok earlier on. then at 2:05, there is that quick hype before it moves on to namjoon again being the link of the rap verses to the prechorus. interesting how namjoon has no actual rap verses here but rather does the links between the verses and the prechorus.
taehyung then comes in swiftly at 2:18 and talk about the use of brasses right here and it suits taehyung’s timbre of voice as well. not to mention the percussion inside is great as well and then short line at 2:29 before taehyung resumes again together with the creepy synth back again.
then there is this nice switch in which the bridge comes around with jungkook singing it at 2:42 and there’s his slight breakdown as well in the beat without the synth but more on percussion. then namjoon comes in at 2:48 with ‘you must be kidding me’ before taehyung comes in again at 2.51. interestingly at 3:06, one could hear jungkook singing this time round and taehyung doing the doubling for this one. then at 3:17 with jimin and seokjin wrapping it up with that nice riff at 3:27 before the last chorus comes in at 3:28.
the last chorus starts off with yoongi as he goes with the beat that is heavily driven on the percussion before at 3:38, the beat slightly changes as hoseok does this part with the beat being more focused on his voice rather than the beat. then the song ends with this synth from 3:49-3:51.
lyrics: okay so honestly i am in love with the lyrics because theres so many underlying nuances inside; it’s like a subtle diss.
but anyway, for some general information, 뱁새 = crow-tit is a type of bird that is found in Korea, it’s a really cute bird with long legs
Tumblr media
but it also has another meaning which is ‘try-hard’; the meaning that bangtan is using for this song.
There's a phrase in Korean "뱁새가 황새 걸음을 걸으면 가랑이가 찢어진다", which means "if a crow-tit walks like a stork, it will break its legs." The meaning is that you’ll ruin yourself if you try to imitate someone better than you. ( Reference )
so this is the meaning that bangtan brought across, sort of dissing the older generation etc since many looked down on the current generation - the millennials
They call me 뱁새 욕봤지 이 세대
=
They call me a try-hard. Our generation has had it hard.
here namjoon already talks about how the current generation is already under pressure from the older generation by being different etc especially now with the different way of thinking and a lot of technology being infused in the current generation.
=
At my part time job, it’s “all for experience”.* At school, there’s the teachers. My superiors use violence. In the media they go on about “the generation that’s given up.”
i really love hoseok’s verse because it’s something that many of us can relate to. in korea, it is commonly known that this current generation are ones who give up too easily, similar to the strawberry generation where we are so called ‘easily-bruised’. really love how hoseok literally brought the fact that last time teachers used violence as punishment etc, last time the popular, hitting the hand with the ruler etc, but of course, now it’s different. love how he made comparisons that feels really nostalgic to me.
=
Change the rules, change change. The ones who came before us want to, want to maintain. But we can’t do that, bang bang. This ain’t normal.
this verse by namjoon that could somehow be considered as a pre chorus or possibly a hook ( now that i think about it, the structure of this song is a bit different and is more repetitive )
namjoon brings up how we change the rules yet those in the older generations wants to keep them, clear polar opposites. he even talks about how the current generation cant do what we want and it’s abnormal.
=
Ah, stop going on about ‘effort’ and more ‘effort’. Ah it makes my hands and feet cringe. Ah, try harder, ah, try harder. Ah, you really don’t have a chance. As expected of the ones before us!
okay this pre chorus lyrics are amazing because look at this diss!!! literally bangtan talks about how the older generations mostly talk about putting in effort so much that the younger generations just gets annoyed, hence the ‘cringe’ line. yet the younger generations already know that they dont have a chance to stand out, hence the older generations could easily talk about effort.
=
(As expected of them*), they meet your expectations. (As expected of them), they’ve earned their name. (As expected of them), they can just take it all. (As expected of them), those that came before us.
the ‘them’ here refers to the older generations, saying how being the older generations, they could say all this but they should have known that generations change.
Never Never Never
=
I’ve got a crow-tit’s legs, and you have a stork’s legs. They all say their legs are worth a million bucks. My legs are shorter, so how do you expect me to keep up? They say it shouldn’t matter since we’re coming from the same place. Never, never, never.
in yoongi’s lyrics, he already makes the stark comparison in terms of their legs and already saying how the current generation is already at a disadvantage, though people say it shouldnt matter, but of course in reality, it does matter, some just have it better than others when they were born.
hence this line in the chorus, 금수저로 태어난 내 선생님 = My teachers were born with it all.
내 탓이라니 너 농담이지 공평하다니 oh are you crazy 이게 정의라니 you mu be kiddin’ me! You mu be kiddin’ me you you mu be kiddin’ me!
=
It’s my fault? You’re joking, right? This is fair? Oh, are you crazy? This is right? You must be kiddin’ me! You must be kiddin’ me, you you must be kiddin’ me!
then this bridge is the final mockery that bangtan has for them, more like subtle mockery because it is known that the older generation literally blames the younger generation for everything and making comparisons that aren't even having the same base to be compared. hence in reality, it is not fair to the younger generation.
but this line as well in the chorus, 황새 덕에 내 가랑인 탱탱 = thanks to those that came before us I’m spread too thin - in which they talk about how before the younger generation does anything, they are already pressured by the older generation etc.
i really love the witty lyrics that bangtan delivers here, truly remarkable, especially when seen in context as bangtan talks about the current problems of the youths.
Reference: Colour Coded ©
choreography: so the choreography was actually released on their 3rd muster 22920, in early Jan where the world of hip thrusts was introduced and we are all deceased ( let’s be real ), no one saw it coming, no one could even prepare themselves emotionally and mentally, let alone spiritually.
but anyway, i really like how this choreography is just really intense to go with the beat of the song and using hip thrusts to actually relay this out.
Tumblr media
like these hip thrusts are even amplified in hoseok’s rap apart from the chorus ( why more?? )
Tumblr media
but i love how this dance already starts off, talk about some big movements and when they all do it together, it is more pleasing to look at
Tumblr media
love how bangtan does this move too in which they gather together in sync, for some reason it looks as though they are going to gang up on you with all these powerful moves, coupled with their facial expressions; talk about an impact to the audience
also, one could see that throughout this choreography, they found some spaces in between the song to actually just groove to the song without having to actually have full dance steps every step of the way ( for eg. in dope )
such as here
Tumblr media
but what’s interesting is also the pre chorus where namjoon is getting it and showing his great leg proportions with everyone behind him, especially when he does this move when he raps a more elongated part ( if you know what i mean )
Tumblr media
also, this iconic dance move that hoseok created ( the horse dance in 2014 during their promotions for war of hormone ) and to think they incorporated it in this dance in Jan 2016 !!! ( a legend !! ) a nostalgic dance move!!! somehow i guess hoseok was inspired by the iconic nae nae.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i really like how they included something to goof around ( a true trait of bangtan ) by even having them kinda hi-five their hands before they do the move, clearly seen by the maknae line
Tumblr media
last thoughts: really love this hyped song because it never gets old despite it possibly being on repeat.

Intro: Never Mind Analysis
this is the analysis for bangtan’s 4th mini album’s intro: never mind.
i will be analysing several components - music, lyrics and aesthetics.
disclaimer: this is just my personal opinion, feel free to disagree. do let me know your thoughts in my ask box
Tumblr media
overall: really love how this intro turned out to be, if ever, this song became more angst than usual lmao. maybe it’s the beat of the song or the tone of yoongi’s rap, but definitely this intro is more ‘heavy’ than usual. really love how this gives way to the concept that bangtan intends to bring out in this album which is the more daring and adventurous side of youth - the side in which youth would pick themselves up again etc. and so with this intro, yoongi says ‘never mind’.
music: so this intro actually starts off really interestingly with the cheers and support of fans for a few seconds in which by 0:05, the fans starts to cheer ‘encore’ - something that all artists/idol groups wish to hear as it shows how much love and support they are receiving from fans and that they’ve made it. then by 0:16, one could hear yoongi tapping the microphone so as to check whether it’s working and then by 0:18, the microphone screeches to which at 0:21, yoongi coughs into the microphone. ( i find it interesting that he coughs into the microphone since usually people go ‘1,2, test’ to the microphone but i guess since he wants it to be more subtle and coughs instead ).
then at 0:22, the sound of the piano can be heard as the intro finally starts with yoongi rapping - just in time with the crowd cheering that yoongi is starting his rap. really love the piano melodies that could be heard in here especially at 0:27-0:28. yoongi even made it a point to let out a chuckle at 0:33 with the piano being the background music. also, at this juncture, the percussion is being introduced as a constant beat with the light tapping of the hi-hat and that the cheers of the crowd returns as an underlying beat. ( seriously, how is yoongi using all these casual sounds as the underlying beat ??? just like the intro of 화양연화 pt.1 with the dribbling of the basketball ).
the next part of the song at 0:44 can be detected with the beat of the bass drum - in time for yoongi to take a deep breath and continue his rap and the bass drum could be heard again at 0:49 as yoongi continues the next part of his verse. his style of rapping here is close to spitting words but not exactly it.
then at 0:55, with the beat of the bass drum again, the percussion starts to accelerate as this moves on to the prechorus before the chorus actually drops later on. also, the use of the electric guitar could now be heard as the sound becomes more fuller as well. yoongi’s rap starts to pick up pace as well or seemingly as such as he fits in more words into his bars.
then at 1:08, the iconic chuckle of yoongi as an adlib in this song yet again. then the chorus finally drops at 1:16 after yoongi raps with more intensity. but as the chorus drops, one could say that yoongi is placing more emphasis in the chorus etc.
the chorus in which the electro guitar and percussion can be heard promptly with yoongi’s harsh rapping. but from 1:28 onwards, one could hear yoongi picking up his speed of rapping, managing his breaths really well.
then at 1:39, the intro moves on to the extended chorus to which both namjoon and hoseok join in. to which when hoseok raps, the electric guitar is very prominent then at 1:45, namjoon is the one doing the parts and yoongi returns at 1:51. one could hear the use of strings as well in this intro.
by 2:02, the intro dies down, leaving the synths and mostly the piano left to be heard with yoongi’s slow rapping.  then yoongi ends with ‘never mind’ along with the dying synths.
lyrics: so this intro talks more about youths to not give up generally and not to mind other people - to focus more on themselves
=
From that point onwards, I didn’t care No matter what anyone said I only lived how I wanted, guided by only my beliefs
I DON’T GIVE A SHIT I DON’T GIVE A FUCK
=
I want to ask the several people who prayed for me to screw up Does it seem like my home is going broke, you bastards I DON’T GIVE A SHIT I DON’T GIVE A FUCK
Come on NEVER MIND NEVER MIND 그 어떤 가시밭길이라도 뛰어가 NEVER MIND NEVER MIND 세상엔 네가 어쩔 수 없는 일도 많아 You better NEVER MIND NEVER MIND 부딪힐 것 같으면 더 세게 밟아 인마 NEVER MIND NEVER MIND 포기하기엔 우린 젊고 어려 인마 NEVER MIND 부딪힐 것 같으면 더 세게 밟아 인마 부딪힐 것 같으면 더 세게 밟아 인마 NEVER MIND
=
If you feel like you’re going to crash then accelerate more, you idiot Come on NEVER MIND NEVER MIND No matter how thorny the road is, run NEVER MIND NEVER MIND There are lots of things in the world that you can’t help You better NEVER MIND NEVER MIND If you feel like you’re going to crash then accelerate more, you idiot NEVER MIND NEVER MIND We’re too young and immature to give up, you idiot NEVER MIND If you feel like you’re going to crash then accelerate more, you idiot If you feel like you’re going to crash then accelerate more, you idiot NEVER MIND
here, it seems as though Yoongi is telling others to work even harder no matter what, it’s a message he wants to bring across to everyone which is why some idols even mentioned that this song speaks to them
( especially since being a trainee is a lot of work )
but i like how Yoongi ensures that he incorporates the theme of youth inside
=
Without me noticing I have become the pride of my family And I have succeeded to some extent The time we call puberty I think of it suddenly At that time I was young And had nothing to fear
=
If there’s anything that’s different it’s my height And also being a bit more mature for my age
=
The origin of youth Everyone said it, don’t go overboard
=
We are still young and immature, don’t even worry about it
overall, i really like his lyrics inside especially the iconic moss one ‘구르지 않는 돌에는 필시끼기 마련이거든 이끼 = Moss surely grows on a stone that doesn’t roll’
Reference: BTS Trans ©
aesthetics: i really like how this time round, the intro has a darker colour palette as compared to the first intro that was more into the yellow and orange colours - basically the sunrise/sunset colours and now having the black and blue colour palette
Tumblr media Tumblr media
to some extent, this video could be seen as a lyric video towards the middle and the aesthetic shots are definitely not to be missed
Tumblr media
also, i like how this seems to be a continuation from the previous intro - by having the same teenage boy again, sort of showing a story line
Tumblr media Tumblr media
not to mention, the sudden splash of colour in contrast to the monochrome scenes that they had that introduced several symbols including the butterfly
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
last thoughts: overall, again, a great intro to this whole theme of youth as bangtan shows a different side of youth with this album

this is the analysis for bangtan’s 3rd mini album, 화양연화 pt.1, 8th track, 이사 ( Move ).
i will be analysing several components - music and lyrics
disclaimer: this is just my personal opinion, feel free to disagree. do let me know your thoughts in my ask box
Tumblr media
overall: bangtan has this song that actually means ‘move’ because this is the first time that they actually moved their dorms to a bigger one since debut and it means a lot to them - sort of like the first step to becoming something bigger considering bighit could afford to move them to bigger dorms with bangtan’s success - this song being memorable for all of them.
music: so the song starts off with some synths, synths that actually haven’t been heard before. there’s something modern-sounding about all of them. not to mention how the percussion is already present from the very beginning. and one could hear that there’s this higher pitch voice which could be heard inside which could be heard clearly at 0:08. if im not wrong, the snare drum is very prominent here. there is also the sound of an electric guitar in here though it’s not those very high pitch chords but more of a subtle one - one that sounds as if it belongs in a jazz cafe to be honest, the chords sounding very mellow. also, the intro for this song is quite long, having 23 seconds worth of just the beat going on so as to prep the song.
namjoon then comes in straight away with ‘ayo suga’ at 0:23 with the beat being the same and namjoon filling all the gaps in between his lyrics with adlibs. then at 0:36; there’s a subtle change in the song as namjoon changes his style of rapping slightly as he goes slower but reverts back to his pri final style of rapping at 0:43. this shows how he can manipulate the beat very well to his liking. there is that soft sigh at 0:54 and then it moves on to namjoon’s next part of his rap at 1:00 as he slows down his rapping. then at 1:10 one could hear this shimmering synth again as it goes on to the chorus at 1:12 with taehyung. what’s interesting is that there is no prechorus here but rather an elongated part of namjoon’s rap.
at this juncture, the percussion is back in full force and that the high-pitch sounds are back again underlying this whole part. then at 1:25, one could hear some of jungkook’s vocals harmonizing with taehyung such as in 1:31 yet taehyung is more dominant in this part.
then hoseok preps the listeners for his part by adding the adlib ‘woah’ at 1:34 before he begins his own rap verse which is at full force at 1:37 onwards. here, hoseok’s style of rapping is really laidback, only ensuring he is enunciating the words etc eg. 1:51 the beat here is the same as namjoon’s - largely driven by the bass and drums. he even knows how to play with the beat as seen in 1:56-1:57, deliberately elongating his words. again his adlib of ‘woah’ at 2:13 could be heard.
then the chorus comes in full swing at 2:25 with seokjin this time round but again with jungkook harmonizing with him which could be heard at 2:34. and then seokjin ends his part which would lead to yoongi’s rap at 2:48 which is surprisingly interesting.
because at yoongi’s rap, the beat seems to have simmered down to almost nothing but once he begins rapping did the beat come back in a crescendo style. as he begins his rap, one could hear this very mild percussion - a muffled drum being hit at every 1st count yet yoongi takes his time to even throw in some adlibs as he wishes inside his own intro of his rap. only at 2:56 onwards did the drum becomes slightly more frequent. from 2:55 onwards did the guitar chords come in. then at 2:59, yoongi is rapping at full force, his words being the best enunciated, I like his dictation here. but specially from 3:11 onwards, he picked up the pace of his rapping. and one could hear his exasperation at 3:22-3:24. interestingly at 3:30, he seemed to have calm down as his rapping has gotten much slower as he wraps up his part, even adding a dramatic pause at 3:33 before he resumes to wrap up his part.
then it moves on to the chorus at 3:35 with jimin and some of seokjin’s vocals underlying, even with jungkook. but in reality, nothing much has changed in the beat.
but once it moved on to 4:00, it went to the coda with jungkook inside as he riffs and does adlibs at this juncture, taking his time to shine as the beat takes a backseat. then at 4:24, namjoon comes back in but to deliver a monologue, his thoughts on moving etc with the beat being his BGM and jungkook also harmonizing at this juncture. i like how namjoon puts in this short speech, some kind of a reminder and a gist of the song to be honest. and with that the song ends with 4 seconds of silence.
lyrics: while listening to the song, and from the title, people would naturally assume that bangtan was just merely talking abut moving dorms, but actually it was more than that. to bangtan, moving to bigger dorms was one thing but it also meant that they are moving towards a path of success evidently seen in the chorus
=
Let’s move Goodbye to this place, that we grew attached to Let’s move Now to a higher place
While taking the last box out of the empty room I looked back for a moment Times we cried and laughed Goodbye now
also, one could see how much more in depth the rap lyrics are this time round, how there are more parts being allocated to the rap rather than vocals and how the rap lyrics tell a story.

Ayo SUGA I remember how we came here three years ago When you and I used to fight all the time The wallpaper, bathroom and veranda were all blue Back then I thought this was a big place But my ambition grew too big That big house became too small now When the nine trainees shared a 17-pyung house Seems like it was just yesterday, we grew up a lot Good things were always other people’s things We were always hoarse from an uncertain future and worries Seeing all the senior artists at the end of the year awards Let’s not forget those things but put them away This place smells like us Let’s not forget this scent, wherever we are We cried a lot and laughed a lot but it was so beautiful Nonhyungdong, 3rd floor, thank you
so here namjoon talks about many things, one would know that he and yoongi were the oldest mates living together from the beginning so i guess when they moved dorms, it felt even more nostalgic for them.
not to mention, before bangtan even debuted, there were also other trainees who trained with bangtan but didnt make it in the end, hence the 9 trainees who shared a rather small dorm.
even here, namjoon talks about how they were so scared of the future, and how uncertain they were that their group would survive in such a competitive industry
he even talks about how the dorms are full of memories, both good and bad and even thanking at it at the end
=
Three years felt so short but so long A lot of things happened, there were many memories I remember now that we’re about to leave Traces of being used like bank accounts and credit cards As much as the place was small we were bound together tighter Fight right here, hitting each other sometimes Maybe that’s why but we have good feelings and bad feelings of love too Even the dust will be cleared now There’s more stuff than the beginning I have more than when I started too Now let’s take our pride and go toward a bigger world with a bigger dream A new start, a new beginning Excited to see how it will become Move the boxes, hold your place, wipe the dust After you’re done, let’s get a bowl of black bean noodles that’s right
now here comes hoseok’s rap and look at his lyrics. he talks about how spent they were as they were trainees, working hard to debut and finally earning some recognition this time round, and now they get to move to bigger dorms as they work towards their dream and to get a bowl of black bean noodles to celebrate their hard work

Ever since I was born I counted the days for my first move I remember, why I had to move The machine in my mom’s heart and the big scar In winter of 2010 at Daegu The childish me used to measure the size of the world The reason why we moved into a business Was because of all the bad things people said saying we follow money So moving left many things with me Whether I liked it or not, it changed a lot in my life My life was about paying rent, I know I lived with my pride put into the down payment, uh So I’m gonna move again I’m gonna have a dream, a level higher than being an idol When will I stop having to move again? I hope it comes quickly
then lets wrap it up with yoongi’s lyrics. yoongi’s lyrics are more in depth as he talks about moving at a bigger scale, how moving would actually change someone’s perception etc
yoongi also mentions how his life was fixed on paying rent and getting by with the down payment etc. i like how he mentions all these jargons about houses and the last few lines of his rap, he mentions how he wants to stop moving around as much etc so i guess he wants to be stable etc

last thoughts: overall, this may be the least favourite song out of the whole albums, theres nothing wrong with it, but it’s not my cup of tea. regardless, i think bangtan has been doing well in this album to explore more different styles of songs - a nice refreshing style of bangtan to consider

Converse High Analysis
this is the analysis for their 3rd mini album, 화양연화 pt. 1, 7th track - Converse High
i will be analysing several components - music, lyrics and choreography
disclaimer: this is just my personal opinion, feel free to disagree. do let me know your thoughts in my ask box
Tumblr media
overall: this fun youthful track is produced by namjoon in which he wanted to put in his mixtape initially but instead decided to put inside this album instead to become a group song. not to mention, he even purposely named it ‘converse high’ in which he mentioned in an interview before that his ideal girl in 2015 was one who owned a pair of red high tops converse sneakers which led to the name of the song.
music: it starts off straight away with the use of cymbals inside, specifically the hi-hats and the use of electrical guitar chords that sound more reggae and hippie in the beginning. namjoon also comes in with an adlib of ‘yeah’ as if to feel the groove of the song and to set the mood. actually throughout the first few seconds of the song, namjoon is using it to his advantage to ride the groove etc and only till 0:10 does he begin the song, but he starts it off softly so as to prepare for the impending drop. not to mention that one could hear jungkook doubling inside towards the end of namjoon’s lyrics and that the beat now includes claps inside in time with the hi-hats. then namjoon wraps up the intro with ‘converse high’, intentionally slowing down so that the drop would have more impact as listeners would listen out to it more.
so jungkook comes in at 0:19 with that sweet voice of his to which at the beginning one could hear this ‘shimmering synth’ as now the percussion and guitar chords are dimmed down to amplify jungkook’s vocals. the key part of this song is ‘woah woah woah’ at 0:28 in which it is constantly repeated throughout this song, giving it its own groove.
jimin then comes in at 0:29 at the second part of the chorus and again at 0:37 with the ‘woah woah woah’. one could notice that the chorus is actually more choppy - in a way, several breaths are being taken to sing the chorus as they time their singing with the beat and also to sustain the ‘woah woah woah’. to be honest, almost all of the vocal line members’ make it obvious that they are taking breaths especially seokjin however jungkook is the one that makes it less obvious that he does so.
and the after this chorus, there is this short piece of drum melody that signals the start of the verses - actually namjoon’s rap and he’s taking it more chill together with the claps of the beat ( the hi-hats and guitar chords are already dimmed down in this verse ). what’s interesting is that at 0:49 with his lyrics ‘f u’, it adds on to his style of rapping here, clearly showing he could manipulate the beat of the song. yet, he repeats the ‘f u’ several times as he makes a statement.
and then at 0:59, namjoon’s part abruptly ends but is quickly overcome with hoseok’s part as he takes the next verse, as the beat accelerates and picks up speed. the claps actually occur every crotchet and it appears to have ‘speed up’ the song because of it occurring every beat but again, i feel that this is just an ‘audio illusion’, the speed didn’t change, it just sounds faster because of how many more beats there are in a bar. hoseok, too, also knows how to play along, easily integrating his laughter at 1:16 as part of the song.
then at 1:18 with that shimmering synth, taehyung takes over the prechorus and instead of claps, what one could hear are the snaps, the snapping of the fingers to be precise but of course synthesized to make it sound more electronic. in this prechorus, one could hear the adlibs of jungkook and jimin inside as they make up for the loss of percussion inside and guitar chords. and at 1:25, that nice vocal riff by jimin and possibly jungkook as it moves on to the second part of the prechorus which is done by jimin at 1:28. then there is that one synth that signals jimin’s entrance. only during this part did the hi-hats actually come back to play together with that descending synth. again there are some adlibs being done here but subtly done as it is only the middle of the song and not towards the end.
and one could hear yoongi’s ‘ack’ at 1:38 before it makes way for the chorus to start at 1:39 with jungkook and to be honest, there is the percussion that’s in time with the words that adds on to the ‘choppy’ feeling that one could hear. seokjin takes over at the chorus at 1:48 to wrap it up with the drum melody at 1:57 to signal the repeated part of the chorus which actually has a lot of jungkook’s adlibs inside, though very subtle, sounding more like riffs.
at 2:07 it’s yoongi’s part coming through and for some reason, the song sounds as if it picked up speed again because the claps are back again but in quarters, constantly keeping yoongi’s rap in check. not to mention the use of hi-hats are back in again. yoongi’s small adlib of ‘ah yeah’ at 2:14 as well just to fill in the small gap in between. i like how his voice kinda got dragged down at 2:18 as he said ‘numbers’, something called like text painting where his voice goes down in time with the beat also going down - descending for that matter. but that brief pause ends when he comes back in full speed at 2:19 but he seems to be squeezing more words in a bar in this second part of his rap. and he even dragged his last word to tie in to the prechorus at 2:27 with jungkook.
again, nothing much has changed in the prechorus except that jungkook and seokjin are the ones singing this time round. one could hear yoongi’s adlib again at 2:47 before the beat drops for the final time.
one could tell that this is the last chorus with the number of adlibs being done in this chorus specifically by jungkook such as in 2:49 and then at 2:58 where taehyung takes over, one could hear jungkook harmonizing with him. jungkook’s adlibs could be heard again at 2:59 and at 3:01.
that short drum melody is used again as the go for the coda at 3:05 and jungkook’s adlibs again at 3:08, 3:13 and even hoseok contributing by saying ‘ah yeah’ at 3:17 and that nice melodic riff by jungkook at 3:21 and then at 3:23, hoseok’s giggle that just added more to the youth theme. and then one could hear that drum rhythm at 3:25 before namjoon ends off with ‘converse high’
lyrics: the lyrics here are more laid-back, maybe because the song is called ‘Converse High’ and are singing some praises about the brand ( but then again, who doesn't own a pair
also namjoon did mention before in 2015 in an interview that his ideal girl would actually wear a pair of red high tops converse shoes and is seen here in the lyrics in his rap
흰 티에 청 반바지 빨간 컨버스하이 that’s it
=
White t-shirt, jeans and red Converse Highs, that’s it
note: it is not common for people in Korea to actually say the brand or name of a product hence which is why when bangtan performed this song on Mnet Countdown, they changed it to ‘Lover’s High’ to be in check with the broadcasting rules
=
Rather than the stars in the sky, I wanna see the stars on your shoes Haha, without Namjoon knowing
now in hoseok’s rap, we see the mention of the brand, converse again, even adding his own humour in his rap lyrics by including namjoon inside
=
I like you but still don’t wear Converse Lows
this part of the pre chorus got me dying, the clear preference for high tops instead of the low cut converse shoes lmao
너의 컨버스하이 I really really want yo 컨버스하이 I really really like yo 컨버스하이 I really really need yo 컨버스하이 컨버스하이
=
I’m so into your Converse Highs I can’t help it I’m so into your Converse Highs I like it so much
Your Converse Highs I really really want yo Converse High I really really like yo Converse High I really really need yo Converse High Converse High
so this chorus and sort of coda talks about how one loves the shoes on that special someone, im here thinking do they dig the person or dig the pair of shoes or the special person they dig wearing those converse shoes being a bonus?
=
Converse Converse, I really hate a Converse When you look all flashy with your black stockings and your high heels That’s just a lie But you look better with Jordan numbers Ha don’t you know? Converses kill your charm Anyway, when you meet me, don’t wear Converses It’s too hard to take them off of you
so yoongi’s rap lyrics are actually funny to me, because he is going against the general idea of a girl wearing converse shoes being attractive, here he states, he rather have them wear jordan sneakers instead of those converse shoes and that they are even harder to take off ( is this suggestive hmmMM ) especially since converse shoes are laced up unlike high heels which could easily slip off
i feel that this song, for some reason, is very appropriate, maybe because of the fact that most youth, whether they own a pair of converse shoes, are very familiar with this brand, especially in Korea. i feel that the moment you own a pair of shoes with laces, you have reached that period of youth - which technically overreaches this whole concept of their album - youth.
Reference: Colour Coded ©
choreography: the choreography for this one is laid-back, possibly the same level as Boyz with Fun choreography  ( which you could see here )
that cute footwork in the beginning, of course. for some reason they all look like boys who see their crush ( or maybe thats what they were going for )
Tumblr media
and when the chorus hits, here they are dragging their feet, honestly i think the main point of this whole dance is to literally exaggerate their footwork, possibly because the song title is Converse High.
i dont know, i just really thought that this whole dance was cute??
Tumblr media
this part when hoseok comes in, well let’s all admire the formation, all i can just say that this whole dance focuses more on their footwork, highlighting those parts which then become the main point of the dance etc
a cute dance to be honest
last thoughts: regardless, i think this is still a fun song, not a hype for sure, but one that could still lift the mood
