#OTD in 1014 – Battle of Clontarf | The Dublin Norse and the king of Leinster, with Viking allies from overseas, are defeated by Brian Boru’s army at Clontarf.
The bounds between Irish Legend and Irish Myth has often been blurred, especially as the retelling of heroic deeds has been passed on through generations. Brian Boru was no legend although his life deeds were legendary. He was very much a real man and was in fact the last great High King of Ireland and perhaps the greatest military leader the country has ever known. Brian Boru was born Brian Mac…

"Brian Boru was originally the King of a small sub-kingdom of the larger kingdom of Munster, but he had greater ambitions, and set about subjugating and defeating the other Irish kingdoms with great success. In 1002 he was acknowledged by his defeated foes as High King of all Ireland. Killaloe, where he was born and where his father had reigned, became his capital. You can still visit an overgrown hillfort on the lakeshore which may have been his family’s fortress."

Jose Mier Favorite Genealogist: Brian Boru
From Sun Valley, CA to Ireland in 1014 Jose Mier and my Sun Valley, CA stabs at amateur genealogy are trivial compared to some of the heaveyweights in the field of genealogy. Among other 20th and 21st century names on a StrawPoll.com list is that of Brian Boru. Brian Boru, also known as Brian Bóruma or Brian Bóramha, stands as a towering figure in Irish history, particularly during the 10th and…

HIBERNO-NORSE VIKING HOUSE AT THE BOTANIC GARDENS
The Viking house and its garden has been built to commemorate the 1,000th anniversary of the battle of Clontarf and is a permanent installation.
BY EOIN DONNELLY The Viking house and its garden has been built to commemorate the 1,000th anniversary of the battle of Clontarf and is a permanent installation. There's an ongoing Favourite Legendary Group poll going on YouTube and so far ALL OF THEM ended with Hydrogen Bomb Vs Coughing Baby results. (Losers got 9-27% of the votes)
It's really disheartening to see how many Legendaries people apparently hate with a burning passion. I've decided to document the losers of Round 1, aka the Legendaries people apparently hate enough roast them in the comments section.
I'm going to update this post as the poll progresses because I'm really sad and shocked. :(

(It was the Genies Vs the Treasures of Ruin. Gonna be honest, this was the first poll I 100% agreed with)

Okay forget the Light Trio potentially losing being my villain origin story, THIS IS MY VILLAIN ORIGIN STORY

Good news, the Light Trio made it to Round 2 by BRUTALLY SLAUGHTERING the Loyal Three. The Lousy Three only got 7% of the votes and honestly, well deserved. Fuck 'em (I actually think they're a really good trio, great designs, great mythos, but as characters, they're complete assholes)

The Viking Age in Ireland
The exact reasons for Vikings venturing out from their homeland are uncertain; some have suggested it was due to overpopulation of their homeland, but the earliest Vikings were looking for riches, not land. Vikings also settled in Scotland and, like Ireland, started to settle with the local population. In Scotland these people became known as The Gallowglasses and would later arrive in Ireland as…
