A lot of life happened between the commission date and now, but I'm very proud of how this turned out, and I know that 2021 Rebecca wouldn't have been able to create this, so the time was worth it. (No offense 2021 Rebecca, we've just grown as an artist.)

Not Tolkien related, but I'm actually lowkey proud of how this self portrait embroidery is going 🤩 Ignore the eyes being proportionally and directionally "off" lol, and the too-long nose/anatomical mistakes. I'm more focusing on learning "thread painting" techniques than exact and accurate anatomy representation (or at least, that's my excuse 😅)

Also I chose to do a self portrait bc at the time of needing a reference photo to practice embroidered portraits, I have, in fact, the face most readily available to me lol

Finished it! A couple of months ago I started this pattern by @antisocialxconstruct / @craftsbyrom and I just finished up the last squares today. After the last cross stitch, this was pleasantly straightforward and very relaxing busy-work for my hands. The pattern is available digitally in it's Kofi shop for a minimum of a dollar (I've also bought that glitchy dog skull that I'll get around to eventually 👀).

Some technicalities etc below:

One tweak I made was at the very end I decided to try a tiny bit of backstitch to make the letters stand out, and for the most part I like the addition, but I'm still debating. The way it turned out on the Y has me tilting my head back and forth.

Here's the completed one before the backstitching:

I went with 3 strands instead of 4 like it did for the sample, but I think the coverage was still pretty good. Definitely needed at least the 3 for the dark areas to stay completely dark.

With 3 strands, most colors were okay with just 1 skein of DMC thread, but I did need to run to the shop to grab a few: - DMC 3814 - Aquamarine (I had less than a square inch left when I needed to get more ;3;) - DMC 02 - Tin - DMC 797 - Royal Blue

If I had done 4 stands I would have also needed a second DMC 939 for the very dark blue, because I have just about a foot left on my spool.

I'm debating what to do with it. The last one became a pillow, but this one is juuust a bit small to be a useful pillow. I might just do it anyway, sampler throw pillows aren't that weird after all, but I might also try to kind of rig a sort of frame and stretch it like a canvas? It could be nice up on the wall that way.

had some very interesting experiences with men and fiber crafts today.

at lunch i was embroidering some cute flowers on a pair of jorts and a male friend of mine came over and was like "omg u can knit??!" and i was like. "uhm. no. i can embroider tho." (i didnt know how to knit at the time)

then later, once a friend had taught me how to knit for the play were doing, my male teacher saw me knitting away and was like "oh! u were sewing while getting your hair done? awesome!" (were figuring out hairstyles for the play and are time crunching) and again i was just like. "erm no i was knitting." my teacher was like "its a gender thing. us guys cant tell the difference" (he was joking. probably.)

then when i was telling these stories to my mom after school, my dad yelled from the basement that he knew how to knit. later, when i was ranting abt how different the crafts are, but how i could understand some being mixed up, he was indignant. so its not a gender thing.

anyways i perhaps could understand crocheting and knitting being mixed up. and maybe embroidery and sewing if u really know nothing. but both these guys got a yarn craft and a thread craft swapped 😭

I need you to know that every time I see your personal cat in cowboy boots I am driven once more to embroider it onto a denim jacket. I still have one pair of your cats saved as a reaction image because they convey such an emotion.

Whether or not you go through with it, the mental image has enriched me more than you can imagine.

Thank you to @meganwhalenturner for inspiring me to get back into embroidery! I have had the mountains on this piece done for at least a year and got stuck, because (obviously) I am not good at embroidering words. But I wanted a quote from the books to put on my wall, and this was the best way to do it.

I could apologize for this not being very good but instead I will insist that it is a stylistic choice and I definitely did it on purpose!!!

the flowers are forget me nots, which symbolize true love and loyalty, along with the obvious 'dont forget me, love me forever' meaning that comes with their name. i think these flowers represent their relationship pretty well : ) even if its ironic : )

Well... Today I'm putting in my two weeks for the job I've had for over 3 years. This place is notorious for playing extreme right-wing media and not giving a shit about the well-being of it's employees. One time I even had a stalker who would come into the business and who was an ex coworker of mine, and the only response I got from mgmt is that it's my problem. I was a minor, too!

So. Yeah. I'm honestly surprised I put up with this place for so long.

Though I'm going to jump immediately on applying for another job, I can't foresee for how long I will be out of work. I'm not in a dire situation at all or anything, but if any of you want to give me a little help during this time, my commissions are still open. I'll embroider pretty much anything for you, starting at $25 (not including shipping or cost of clothing if applicable). It'll be rough starting the school year with no income, so even the smallest commission will be hugely appreciated.
