Watching this for the first time and knowing there are no cameos and only treachery in Sandman season 2 has me quite irate.

Ink and watercolour art of Edwin and his pony, probably during the summer of 1916 before Edwin returns to St. Hilarion’s for Michaelmas Term (for the last time). Hope the poor pony didn’t get drafted into the Great War, as so many horses were at the time.

Since George has mentioned Edwin’s friendship with horses in the past, I asked for some specifics (and other things) in a Cameo. Here’s my request:

Hi George, hope you’re well and had a wonderful time in California. We fans are super excited about Pismo Beach and also hoping for a glimpse of the Dead Boys in the 2nd season of Sandman. Hope Raffy copes well with the UK heatwaves. Speaking of animals, I have a question concerning Edwin’s horse/pony. You said you imagine it to be a grey mare. I’m working on a drawing of Edwin and his steed and was wondering whether “grey” means a white coat or dapple-grey. What part of the UK would Edwin have grown up in? So here’s my Gameoden offering lol.

They handled it with such kindness and gentleness. It’s honestly a credit to them which wouldn’t be evident without explanation. I’ll explain under the cut if anyone wants to know, but it’s not necessary to enjoy the video.

Anyway! I’ve had my name sung to me my whole life, if it’s not Santana, it’s West Side Story, if it’s not West Side Story, it’s Ave Maria, if it’s not Ave Maria, it’s The Sound of Music lol. Having that familiar thing happen again was weirdly comforting lol.

I love learning behind the scenes things, so the underwater filming and learning they’d filmed at an abandoned hospital was so cool.

And finally, did anyone else notice George is wearing The Cat King bracelet today?

Can’t wait to see everyone else’s videos!

When I’d made the request, I was dealing with really heavy personal stuff which I won’t get into. I added a video just thanking them for taking time out of their lives to do this, that they didn’t owe it to anyone, so it was very kind and we appreciated it and them for it.

Days later, when I was feeling much better, I realized I’d filmed that video whilst deep in the throes of anxiety, and probably looked 2 seconds from crying and distressed.

Embarrassed, I tried to see if I could modify the request to remove the video. Short answer, you can’t. So I changed the text a bit to say I had bad anxiety in the video but was ok now.

They didn’t mention it and were absolutely lovely. The whole video made me smile, then at the end, as George is ending the recording, he whispers something. I’m not 100% sure what he’s saying, but it sounds like “Guard you.” And I may have cried a little.

Edit to add that I realized that’s not what he’s saying, but it’s what I heard at first lol.

We are currently reporting to you live from London in the office at the desk, I know it looks a bit different, don’t ask, uh, yeah. George: Yeah, this is us, thank you so much for being a part of this special cameo week, we’re having a lot of fun reliving and relearning some things Dead Boy Detectives thanks to the die-hard fans such as yourself, Michela. Thank you so much for your request, let’s have a look, so you’ve said: “Hi guys, love your work in Dead Boy Detectives, this show has been a joy and a comfort for me”. Us too, Michela, but we’re thrilled to hear that. “In a future episode of Dead Boy Detectives is there a skill that you wish you could use or a cool thing you’d like to get to do?” Jayden: Oh George: Well, I have two things that I pitched: I wanted to see Edwin fencing, ah, and there are two fencing helmets in the office actually, ehm, so I, I think that’s not beyond the realm of impossible, and I would want to see Edwin riding a ghost horse. Imagine seeing him in riding gear, chef’s kiss. Jayden: I would want to see Charles have a, a proper fight with somebody, like a good, like, two minute long, fist fight with someone George: Mmm, fist fight? Jayden: yeah, like proper, proper fight, I mean we get to see him do the kick in the pilot and obviously we get to see him flying around that cricket bat like a madman but I think being able to, like, have a proper fight George: proper fight Jayden: with somebody and throw a punch, I think that would be quite fun. George: We have, fun fact, we actually did have a boxing tutorial, I did, he didn’t need it, I did, Jayden: [laughs] George: before the boxing scene, because that was the OG, original first scene of the pilot Jayden: yes, it was George: fun fact, for you, and that’s also the scene where I wear a wig. That case was part of a reshoot, meaning that there was an early version of our boys who never experienced the puppy. Tragic!
