one of my favorite parts of the lunar chronicles has always been how batshit insane it is. just the the genuine unhingery. the main character kidnaps her love interest from his wedding. said love interest stabs his arranged bride (a murderous dictator) with scissors at the altar. cress and thorne stay at an inn in the middle of the desert, and while he’s fucking around gambling she gets kidnapped into an underground medical experimentation human trafficking ring and bought by her long lost father. there’s evil moon people. scarlet and wolf get it on in a boxcar after like two days of knowing each other. 4/9 of the main cast aren’t human. cinder crashes kai’s wedding (again), murders twenty people, and jumps off a ten story balcony into a lake. kai keeps cinder’s metal foot so he can stare at it and long after her while she’s a wanted fugitive. cress fangirls over and stalks her outlaw crush on the internet for years and then bags him when they meet. not one of them is over twenty or mentally sound btw. no other YA series is doing it like that. applause

I went to my first plant swap and man. It was WILD.
Keep in mind I heard about the plant swap a little over 24 hours before it was happening. I have no plants to exchange, I barely even have seedlings yet. But I do have a bunch of seeds so I decide to roll up and see what I can do.
Its from 2 to 5. I show up at 2:12 and its mostly houseplants. But the local library branch has a tent and they’re letting people check out some gardening books they brought if they have a library card on them!
Tumblr media
So I checked out “Seedswap: The gardener’s guide to saving and swapping seeds” by Josie Jeffery!
Woohoo!
(They also told me that if I want the library to set up seed libraries I should email showing interest because a lot of librarians have suggested it but public interest is needed 👀 special reminder to email/contact your local library about adding seed libraries if you haven’t got one already!)
I considered leaving but I decide to hang around and see if anyone else comes around with stuff that’s more my fancy (no disrespect to people who like houseplants but I have a 99% killrate with them and they’re just not my vibe) and
Y’all
I obtained a Boxcar tomato, a Blackberry Lily, a variegated pepper, a hibiscus cutting, loofah seeds, okra seeds, and FOUR (4!!!!) peach tree seedlings!!!
Tumblr media
HELLO??????
I spent like 6 bucks total (1 on a peach tree seedling, 5 on the pepper) and the rest was just seed trades (or the peach tree lady just… giving me more peach trees for being nice. Be nice to the elderly you might get peach trees out of it.) I was there for like an hour and a half TOPS.
Tumblr media
(I had to pot up the peach tree seedlings myself but this is still a W in my book lets see if they survive)
So uh
WOOHOO

Stomachaches. Live (2014-2015) [BOOTLEG]
Tumblr media
To celebrate the ten years of this special album I have compiled a bootleg live version featuring 28 songs, all the original fiatc songs, plus all the covers, demos, and other solo songs from that era. It's a very special project for me, it was the first one I started and the hardest one by far. Unfortunately, most of the audio and video from that time were either low quality or incomplete, so I did my best trying to find the best possible versions.
download it HERE

Lehigh & Hudson River Baldwin (built 1918) class 80 (USRA) Mikado 2-8-2 steam locomotive 82 is leading its EXTRA freight train with flags flying through a countryside grade crossing in New York State, late 1940's. The L&HR only had 4 of the 80 class (USRA) Mikado's, road numbers 80-83, and then another 4 Mikado's in the lighter 70 class, road numbers 70-73. You can see the fireman in his cab window. The consist of this train appears to be mostly boxcars with a gondola included. This freight train appears to be about 20 cars in length along with a caboose bringing up the rear end.

"I want you to witness the fate of the town of Nipton, to memorize every detail."
OK, Vulpes, how about a memorise a very particular detail. That you speak out of your arse when you claim "Each clutched his ticket, hoping it would set him free. Each did nothing, even when "loved ones" were dragged away to be killed." what's this then, Inculta?
Tumblr media
[an ash pile and a dead wastelander next to a laser rifle]
Tumblr media
[the Ash Pile's inventory contains a set of Legion Recruit Armour and a machete]
Looks to me like you didn't clean up the fight fully. I imagine that if we were to have arrived later what's left of your man woulda been sweeped up and the Wastelander would have a mine under him.
Tumblr media
[another angle of the dead Wastelander, showing the Laser Rifle and a Lottery Ticket]
The man has a lotto ticket next to him as well. Which does raise some questions. Was he handed the ticket and then pulled out the Rifle? Did they leave it next to him to mock him? Was this actually some kind of trial by combat "prize"? If the last one, why is he dead inspite of killing a Legion Recruit?
We will never know, the dead can't talk and Vulpes has his story. I don't think this is how Vulpes wanted us to see this man or the Legion Ash Pile.
-
I do have some other observations. Do you notice that the 1st and 2nd place winners, Oliver Swanick and Boxcares, are both Powder Gangers. In fact, literally every non-Legion survivor of this event weren't Nipton Locals? They're literally all Powder Gangers. The two enslaved guys in 'Booted'. The crucified men?
Tumblr media
[4 images vertically of crucified Powder Gangers]
Powder Gangers. All the survivors of Nipton were Powder Gangers. You may think "So what? The people of Nipton got unlucky." but you know what I think? I think this is too convienient.
Vulpes says "Nipton was a wicked place, debased and corrupt. It served all comers, so long as they paid. Profligate troops, Powder Gangers, men of the Legion such as myself - the people here didn't care. It was a town of whores. For a pittance, the town agreed to lead those it had sheltered into a trap. Only when I sprang it did they realize they were caught inside it, too." notice what he's doing there: he's claiming the entire town was in on him and Mayor Steyns plot. A claim like that, if true, could be used against Nipton in some people's minds.
One of the only other accounts of Nipton are Ghost's which are "Nipton wasn't the most friendly town, but..." and "Town was a shithole, asking to be burned. Just not by Legion. Nobody deserves that." which... no town is 'asking to be burned', Ghost. That second quote is part of her saying she had no friends in Nipton. I doubt she actually personally knew anyone in Nipton. Just the fact Steyn served Gangers and NCR and maybe she met someone unkind there once or somethin'.
And, yeah, Mayor Joseph B. Steyn was an arsehole. But y'wanna know somethin' about Steyn? He was New Californian, a Hubber, from The Hub. His prostitutes, Rosie and Sylvia, were probably from there or somewhere in New California too. And you know what he says happened in his terminal when he heard the plan? "I didn't have to think a moment about Mr. Fox's proposition before accepting it. All I have to do is convince the Powders to kidnap the NCR troops at night. When both groups are in town, the Legion boys will scoop everyone up. Ha!" he didn't consult the town about this plan beforehand. He also, rather constantly, displays a desire to leave Nipton and go back to California after exploiting Nipton as much as he could. That was Steyn's care for the town.
Only 1 Nipton Townsperson gets an account of anythin': Tony the Tinker. His single terminal entry shows him to be... a bit of a creep. But he explicitly is avoided by other people in town, especially women (also his Mister Gutseys got one of the Legion Recruits, which is funny).
But I've lost the point I was making. I don't think the fact all the Nipton townspeople are dead is a coincidence. Just like how I don't think that all the NCR just happened to be killed and left in Nipton Hotel is a coincidence.
I think the lotto was rigged.
Think about it, Boxcars even says that when Steyn's number came up they "burned him alive on a pile of tires." he never mentions anyone else getting that treatment.
Vulpes Inculta lied about the towns complicitness, at best there were fine with prostitution that played both sides of the Ganger-NCR conflict (the shopkeepers of the town gave Steyn 15% of their profits from trade with patrons of that service). Does Westside deserve to burn because of the Casa Madrid? Does Freeside because of the Atomic Wrangler? Fuck no.
But if a Nipton townsperson lived, they could share their story. We could see the truth. Nipton was a town, like any other. At worst their crime was electing Steyn (but we have no idea how their elections even worked).
1st prize, 2nd prize. That'd be a loose end, a story that could contradict the "Evil place that should be burned" narrative. The game was rigged from the start. Vulpes Inculta is a liar. Of course he is... he's a literal spymaster.
(also I highly doubt a woman was ever gonna be allowed to 'win' such a thing with Legion ideology)
So, let us remember the town of Nipton, as best as we can. Not as Vulpes saw it, or the NCR saw it, but as a place that had people in it we never got to know. Next time your in Nipton Town Hall, moving the bodies to avoid the landmines of this specifically set up scene by the Legion. Think about the Wastelanders, as they are called, and the part of the Wasteland they called home.

In the 1960's General Motors was trying to get the freight cost down on Vegas to keep them a budget friendly car. At the time, a new Vega had a price tag around $2,000. Engineers from GM and Southern Pacific Railroad came up with the Vert-A-Pac. This allowed 30 cars to be shipped per boxcar instead of 18. Lowering freight costs by up to 40%. GM engineers also designed specific oil baffles to keep oil from spilling along with specially designed carburetors, batteries and added plastic spacers between the powertrain and the chassis to prevent damage.

love the work you do. if the midnight crew participated in eastern orthodox christianity. would spades slick disregard the communion wafer and give it to one of his colleagues due to the taste of hard bread being too stale, or would the hunger that lasts throughout a fast give him the strength to stomach it?
hello you. I pondered your ask in a chatroom with a colleague when you originally sent it 3 months ago. now i will post what was written at the time with few alterations:
the first point before anything else can be said is that assuming the entire crew would participate in orthodox christianity (if in a scenario where all of them were christian..) is not a typical situation and may generalise their origins and interests. if they were placed into the world and had to be christian (religious at all is another story) i believe droog would be the one who is orthodox whereas Slick would be a maronite/arab christian. boxcars and deuce would be the ones originating in the USA (while the other two have presumably immigrated) and thus boxcars would be protestant. deuce would be a reddit "agnostic." let me know if you disagree...
but if we adhere to the parameters of your question and entered a world where the crew were all eastern orthodox christians here is what i believe would occur along with some foundations what need to be established before your scenario acn come into question. also i believe this would only be possible if they were all born into one country that enforced it on a national level and it were intertwined with their cultural practices.
1. he would already not adhere to the rules, which is to honour the sacrament of confession after having committed grievous sin. He would receive the host in a state of mortal sin after doing something the Church considers a sin, and which he does not himself consider sin.
2. he may think bollocks of the concept of the Host altogether. He may not even go up to receive communion which may be partially due to point 1, or his opinions on the fast, which will be elaboratedon.
3. the church the crew would go to would distribute the host directly onto the tongue. He would not go through with the effort of taking the wafer from his mouth to distribute it to another person.
4. (callback to point 2) of course he would adhere to the fast. He sees it as something he is 'supposed' to do rather than feeling vehemently about the matter and doesnt feel that strongly about it other than internally noting the hunger he feels without complaint. which is the same reason he would take the host in a state of mortal sin, because for him taking the host is an obligation he complies to with no spiritual reason behind it. this is how he sees almost anything he would partake in anything he does related to the church. He has almost no ability to understand his wants as separate from what he thinks are his societal obligations (unless the distinction is extremely simple/obvious/physically demonstrated), which in this scenario are defined as his participation in the sacraments. Therefore his hunger, because it is temporary and obligated, would play no factor in whether he would want to consume the Host, or even if he 'wants' to, because he does not often factor in his wants for what he simply does (when not being directly outwardly forced).
5. even if the host were distributed to his hands and he held it dryly in his mouth before contemplating what to do with it he would swallow it anyway. He would not force a colleague to eat it because he thinks because it has been already in his mouth, if it were to entter a crew member's mouth, it would be "gay"

Battle Report + Status Update: Succession Wars junk vehicles are very fun
For a little context, I've been waiting impatiently for the BattleTech Mercenaries Kickstarter stuff to actually ship to general customers, as it's been taking Catalyst a while to actually get all of the stuff in order.
Unfortunately for me, I ordered some stuff through our local TTRPG supplier, and I hadn't actually supported the Mercenaries Kickstarter because I wasn't fully committed to actually buying BattleTech stuff until I had gotten a starter box as a birthday gift about a year ago.
Fast forward to now, and my friend had gotten his BattleTech Mercenaries Kickstarter stuff fulfilled recently. We discovered that there were campaign rules included in the small primer booklet, and I decided to fully hammer out the beginnings of a 3151+ campaign then and there. Notably, pilots can't be better than 3/5 (Gunnery/Piloting) to begin with, but we decided to force people to make 3/5 pilots to increase game speed.
We decided on 4000 BV per player to allow for more fun Dark Age mech and vehicle choices. My friend decided to kinda go crazy with his picks, and selected an Ontos Heavy Tank and a Dervish DV-11DK.
For those who are educated in the art of tank warfare in the age of the battlemech, you would know that the Ontos kinda sucks historically. It's a tank with eight medium lasers as a primary armanent, but no fusion engine. That means three heatsinks have to be mounted alongside every medium laser to sink the heat, making the Ontos horribly inefficient as a 95 ton tank. (A Demolisher can do similar close range damage, but can equip Gyrojet Ammo for a -2 to hit using the AC/20s)
HOWEVER, some madman decided to upgrade the thing in Dark Age by adding eight large chemical lasers as a replacement to the medium lasers & heatsinks. Chemical lasers do not generate heat on vehicles, because they use ammunition. You have EIGHT large lasers.
The following fight was very brief.
To set the stage, a pirate raiding party had struck the area my friend was defending, and had landed with:
Hunchback HBK-4N Wolverine WVR-6K Vedette Tank x2 Default Condor Hovercraft Default
With all of these units at 4/5 (Gunnery/Piloting), they roughly were equivalent to the Dervish & Ontos combo BV-wise.
This was not the case in combat, and it turns out defending with a tank that will likely hit more than half its shots against opponents that must close to close combat distances (>10 hexes) kinda just wins. That Ontos was killing a Vedette when it could see a Vedette, and when it ran out of Vedettes, the Ontos killed the Wolverine with little assistance.
The Wolverine barely lasted two turns of direct combat, and gracefully exploded after having every single pip of armor on nearly every armor section completely gone, before it was crit in the SRM-6 ammo bin located in the right torso. No CASE meant instant death.
The Hunchback actually did a minimum of damage before quickly retreating, while both Vedettes exploded instantly from merely attempting to scratch the paint of the Ontos.
The standout was the Condor, being lucky enough to avoid getting hit at all while successfully closing to optimum weapons range, but it was quickly squashed by the Dervish after a lucky boxcars roll on motive system damage after getting a little too close.
In summary, the pirates were reduced to burning slag in a matter of seconds, and playing as them was hilariously fun. Bad units are great as story enemies, because you can aggressively run them into danger without really caring. My friend got a hella large payout according to the campaign rules, so that was a pretty nice way to begin a tale of a new mercenary company.
