i promised y'all recipes but i forgor
it's ok im fixing it now tho
anyway. hi. hello. i eat a lot of rabbit. i am also blessed by god to be one of the few, the chosen, the descended from the acadians who were blessed with the ability to cook food that doesn't suck. you can trust me. màmaw cécil's ici.
just a fair warning though these recipes kinda assume you have basic cooking skills, and things are measured with the heart as my ancestors intended.
onward to the recipes
the tried. the true. the rabbit gumbo
one whole rabbit
half an onion
one package of andouille sausage (or other spicy pork sausage)
a bell pepper if you like
some okra if you like
some garlic
a jar of dark roux (savoie's is my go-to)
tony chacherie's
tabasco
filé
a good long-grain rice
debone the rabbit and cut into chunks, or pressure cook until it falls off the bones. you can also cook the rabbit IN the gumbo but this method takes a long time and is a PITA, but you do get all the good rabbit grease in the gumbo.
fill a large stock pot about 3/4 the way up with water and set to boil. add salt until it's salty to the taste. add about five to seven heaping spoonfuls of roux and let it dissolve while the pot comes to a boil.
while you wait, chop the onion and bell pepper into a rough dice and add it to the pot. i'm sure someone's màmaw will tell you what to do with okra, but i don't like it so idk. i just know some people put it in their gumbo. not me tho. tbh i don't even like bell peppers but it's traditional. anyway you can put some garlic in too. and tony's. lots of tony's.
cut the sausage into about quarter inch rounds and throw 'em in too. if you did not precook your rabbit, add it now. if you did precook, you can add it once the vegetables and sausage are cooked. around this time is also when i put the rice on.
once all the meat is done cooking, taste for seasoning and adjust as desired. it should be salty and a little spicy (or a lot, if you aren't a coward.) now all you have to do is wait for the rice to finish.
when everything is done, scoop some rice into a deep bowl (a soup crock is ideal) and pour gumbo over, making sure you get a bit of everything. top with tabasco to taste, and a healthy dash of filé.
some variety of sausage
1 - 2lbs of ground rabbit
soy sauce
garlic rice wine vinegar (if you can't find it, normal RWV works just add more garlic)
rubbed sage
garlic powder
minced garlic (if not using garlic RWV) (or if you just want it)
brown sugar
drizzle a little oil (i like using sesame oil) in a saucepan and put in ground rabbit. as it cooks, cut it up into small chunks with your utensil. once it's cooked, throw in all the rest of the everything and season with salt and pepper and a little msg if you got it. measure with your heart and taste as you go. you are shooting for a sort of savoury-sweet thing going on. it should be closer to a breakfast sausage in taste.
this goes really good in a dumpling, fried into a patty, or turn it into a white gravy with some milk and flour and put it over rice with creamed corn for a nontraditional but still delicious rice and gravy.
german rabbit stew
this one is just a link because someone else made it up but it's real good: https://honest-food.net/german-rabbit-stew/
alfredo mushroom rabbit pasta
roughly one cup per person's worth of cooked, shredded rabbit
as many portobello mushrooms as your heart desires
minced garlic
a jar of alfredo (or make your own i ain't your mom)
your pasta of choice
pretty straightforward. put your pasta on to boil (we like penne.) chop up your mushrooms and sweat them out in a saucepan. when they're cooked enough, toss in the alfredo, the minced garlic, and your rabbit. season with salt/pepper/whatever else you like to taste. when the pasta is done, combine pasta and rabbit mixture and enjoy
just the filling part of pei wei's lettice wraps but on rice instead
1lb ground rabbit
half an onion
garlic
hoisin sauce
teriyaki sauce
hot chili oil
green onion (grunion)
sesame seeds
short-grain rice
set your rice to cook. when it's almost done, roughly dice onion and set it to cook in a little oil (i like seasme for this.) when it turns translucent, add ground rabbit and garlic. once the rabbit is cooked, throw all the other sauces in to taste. it should be hoisin-forward, a little sweet and savoury. add some cayenne and more chili oil, maybe some gochujang, whatever, if you want more spice. eat it with rice and top with sesame seeds and grunions, i like some shichimi togarashi too sometimes. maybe a lil fried egg if you're feeling sassy.
i made this up from a dupe recipe for a lettuce wrap i liked at a restaurant so you could put it in lettuce too if you wanted. i just don't ever buy a whole head of lettuce.
weird midwestern chili
1-2lbs of ground rabbit
half an onion
garlic
one large can or two small cans of petite diced tomatoes
1-2 habañero peppers (or none if you're yankee)
some sort of stock or broth, or water and a bouillon cube
chili powder
sometimes corn is nice in this if you have it
pasta of your choice
i use my instant pot for this, but you can do it without one in a normal stockpot, it'll just take longer.
brown the rabbit in a little bit of oil with the pot on sauté. while you wait, chop up the onion, garlic, and papper. when the rabbit is browned, throw everything else in the pot besides the pasta. pressure cook for about 15-20 minutes.
in the meantime, set a pot of pasta to boil. we like farfalle.
when the chili is done cooking, season further to taste with more chili powder, cayenne, tony's, whatever you like. serve on the pasta. i know, i know, it ain't chili to me either, but that's what my friend's minnesotan family calls it and whatever it is, it's damn good so i forgive them.
rice that is dirty AND ugly
1-2lbs ground rabbit
half an onion
garlic i guess
about four or five rabbit or chicken livers
long-grain rice
tony's
set the rice to cook. brown the livers in some oil until they are just barely not-raw. then blitz 'em up in a food processer until they are mush. while you do this, brown some ground rabbit and onion and garlic if you want it in a saucepan. when it's browned, add the livers and just. stir it all together. does it look horrible? you're doing it right. season to taste once it's cooked through. add in rice and mix. i promise to god it tastes better than it looks.
for bonus points, mush dirty rice into balls and dredge in egg and seasoned cornmeal and deep fry or air fry until golden brown. ta da, your very own boudin balls.
i guess you can also run the mixture into a sausage casing for 'normal' boudin too.
('but what about the gizzards cecil' i have tried for years and i can't make gizzards palatable. they just end up weird and tough and i don't like the texture in the dirty rice. you know how to make 'em work, you go for it.)
mexican meatloaf that is neither mexican nor meatloaf
1lb ground rabbit
half an onion
garlic
one can of petite diced tomatoes
one can of whole corn
one can of pork n beans
(optional can of kidney beans or other bean you like)
taco seasoning
shredded yellow cheese
sour creme
tabasco
fritos
chop onion into a rough dice and put in a saucepan with a little oil. when onion is translucent, throw in rabbit to brown. when meat is cooked, thrown in everything that comes in a can, and the taco seasoning. i use about half a packet, but you can do to taste. once it's cooked, spoon over fritos and top with shredded cheese and sour creme. i like a dash of tabasco too.
absoutely a 'hear me out recipe' but if you like frito pie you will probably like this. most importantly, though, it makes a TON of food and for very cheap. excellent end of the month meal. also idk why it's called mexican meatloaf that's just what my mom named it and i'm pretty sure she made it up herself lol
rabbit jambalaya that makes my ancestors cry
approximately one half a rabbit's worth of shredded rabbit
one can of petite diced tomatoes
andouille or other spicy pork sausage
half an onion
bell pepper if ya like it
celery if ya like it
rabbit or chicken stock/broth
tony's
long-grain rice
if you are starting with a whole rabbit, either debone, chop into chunks, and cook, or pressure cook the rabbit until it falls off of the bone. set your rice to cook.
chop veggies and toss em in a saucepan with a little bit of oil or butter. sauté until soft, then add your tomatoes, broth, andouille, and rabbit. when it's all warmed through, add the rice in and mix. season with tony's, crab boil, cayenne, whatever, to taste. put some tabasco on that bitch before you eat, and enjoy.
(my ancestors cry because i'm cajun and traditionally we don't put tomatoes in our jambalaya. mais c'est bon, escuse-moi les anciens.)
creme cheese rabbit joes or whatever
one whole rabbit
one block of creme cheese
one packet of ranch seasoning
jar of pickled jalapeños
shredded cheddar cheese
your favourite burger bun
we use an instant pot, i guess you could probably do it on a stove if you had to but keep an eye on the liquid levels. pressure cook rabbit with half of the ranch seasoning packet and as much jalapeño juice as you want (it should have a kick.) when meat is tender, remove bones and drain liquid into another container (it makes a great stock if you want something with a little pizzaz.)
turn the instant pot on saute, and then put meat, creme cheese, cheddar cheese, jalapeños to taste, the rest of the ranch powder if you want, and as much jalapeño juice or the stock you just made until it's the consistency you want. it should be pretty creamy and a little gloopy. toast your buns, slop the goop on, and enjoy.
well these are the ones i can remember off top my head/that i actually eat regularly. we also make burgers and stir fry and curry rice and shit too, but those are like...y'know. don't really need a recipe for burgers and stir fry.
go forth and eat your fuckin animals

Frozen Out
Another phic phight fill, another day; this one's for @akela-nakamura. No one is allowed to say anything about my need for Far Frozen fics.
(Sister fics are Snow Day and Snowdrift Sanctuary)
Breakfast comes, and breakfast goes. Frostbite cooked last night, so it’s leftover soup.
There’s some kind of bird meat in it that Danny’s vaguely aware of, and a root vegetable that’s basically a hardy onion. The grain in it is a wild rice that’s virtually identical to the one in the human world, supposedly; Danny never had wild rice while he was eating at his parents’ house, though, so it’s new to him.
It’s interesting how it cracks and breaks apart on his tongue. The food’s different here, but the Far Frozen has food that mostly matches human cuisine in far climates. Sure, it’s made of ghost birds and ghost vegetables and ghost grains, but they’re at least recognizable as sea birds, vegetation, and grain. It’s not weird for him to eat food that looked like food.
If Danny had moved in with Princess Dorathea the way she’d offered, he’d be eating ghosts that looked like people.
Yeah. This is better.
Danny likes his soup. It’s reheated on the stovetop so that it’s warm.
His bowl goes beside the door— he’ll scrape the dishes in the snow later— and goes for his coat and boots. There’s gloves that Neuschnee, Tundra’s mom,  knitted for him, on tiny needles that would have been hard for him to manipulate even without her huge clawed hands.
They’re very warm. They have little green and blue stripes and little blue snowflakes spun on yeti-fur yarn. He likes them a lot.
Danny leaves the warm interior of the cave, takes a big breath, and wanders out towards the center of the settlement.
There are lots of occupied caves in the Far Frozen. Some of them are constructed in ice, but many are formed from natural rock— or whatever passes as ‘natural’ in the Infinite Realms. Early history of yeti society is rocky; there’s apparently debate as to whether the yetis found the land while wandering the zone, whether the land spawned the people to occupy it as a deterrent against wanderers and interlopers, or whether they all came into being together.
“Aren’t you immortal? Or, you know…long-lived? Long-dead?” Danny had asked, confused. “Weren’t you here the whole time?”
“Yes,” Frostbite had agreed easily.
“So…shouldn’t you remember?”
“There are theories about that as well,” Frostbite had pointed out, amused with Danny’s frustration. “As it is, we do not.”
So. There’s that.
That being said, Danny knows there’s a lot of history; Arctic can recite cycles of songs for five hundred seasons back, and he’s not over a hundred years old.
Probably.
Danny stops beside a snow drift and scratches his head through his thick hood. Is Arctic a hundred years old?
…Anyway, Danny continues, trucking onwards, if he is, he has to adjust his worldview on teenage yetis. If he’s not, then that means that Danny’s right about part two of his plan, which includes the vague idea that a society of yetis with an advanced medical techniques and application probably has a library somewhere.
Or. You know. So he hopes. Man, if they pass down the entirety of their medical knowledge through oral tradition, Danny’s going to be screwed. Either way, he’s just in time to wander into Pritla’s glacial alcove before they’re finished with their own breakfast— a fish, apparently, devoured by sharp teeth and a huge maw.
“Morning,” Danny greets, because he’s polite that way. He knows Pritla knows he’s here. Everyone so far has made fun of how loudly he walks.
“Good morning, Phantom,” Pritla greets back, blue tongue licking bits of fish out from between huge fangs. Danny’s human right now, but for some reason, using his human name is culturally weird to them. It must be less intuitive, or something. It’s not like they can’t recognize him either way. “Is there something you’re missing?”
“No, thank you.” Last time he was here, it was because Jazz had sent over his workbooks and worksheets with pencils and no sharpener. Once the tips had snapped, it had all been over. “Is there a library?”
Pritla’s furry eyebrows rise up over their brow ridge. “Did you expect there not to be one?”
Danny’s nose squishes. “No. I assumed there is one. I just don’t know where it would be.”
The yeti’s eyes roll up to the ceiling; honestly, Danny knows that they do hard work for Frostbite, but they’re kind of annoying. “Have you tried downstairs?”
“...Downwhat,” says Danny.
So. It turns out. Far Frozen goes down.
Like, there’s a hole in the ice, and it goes down— down long steps carved straight out of the ice, into blue-glowing tunnels woven with streams of rock and salt.
“...Huh,” Danny observes. “Down.”
“Indeed,” Prita rumbles. The yeti turns, their bulk and form imposing as they head back up the stairs. “Everything is etched into the walls; feel free to make any copies of the writings you find. The farther down you go, the newer the writing becomes.”
“Thank you!” Danny hollers back, finally feeling some sense of burgeoning accomplishment. He’s almost there; all he has to do is take something impressive down, and get it copied onto something portable. He has old blank scrap paper stuck into his pockets. This should be easy. He feels very confident in reading into the yetis’ written cultural knowledge…
…And then notices that it’s written in an entirely different syllabary.
Right. Danny wants to bang his head on the ice wall. Universally spoken ghost language, entirely different societal interpretation. Shoot.
Interpreting this will take him ages.
Still, Danny settles in; there’s no rush. He wasn’t supposed to have lessons today, since Tundra caught a wheeze and now he’s being all whiny about it, so he has all the time until dinner to copy and to get some graphite rubbings off the wall.
Danny pulls up one of the carved stools, sits his butt down, and writes.
*
“Frostbite?”
Frostbite looks down. Danny smashes his face into the yeti’s fur; it’s hardly even a blow to his guardian, and it’s apparently instinctual for cubs to do something similar anyway. So. It’s a very affectionate gesture, even if it feels like playing rough to Danny.
And Danny gets petted by a giant yeti hand. There are many advantages to living in the Far Frozen.
Frostbite rumbles something, but Danny can’t actually hear him through the fur. He pokes his head out to get a listen.
“—Good day?”
“Mmhmm.” It had been productive, anyway. “I saw the library.”
“The hall of records?” Frostbites ask, his voice a gentle rumble. Danny leans into the sound. “Ambitious of you. Did you learn anything new?”
Danny had. So he talks about the loss of the rainy seasons for snowy ones and The Year That It Rained Upwards, and about drifting too far against the edge of the Infinite Realms until they smashed into another kingdom and were forced to fight. He talks about the process of washing starlight moss until it becomes food instead of vegetation, and he talks about what it says about birthing traditions, and what it means to be Never-borne in a people that had probably never once lived in the human world.
Or maybe they had? There were some theories downstairs that speculated that they were the ghosts of real Yetis. Danny hadn’t known what to think. He’d taken the notes down anyway, because…well…what if they are? What if they’re all that’s left of the human world’s yeti population: ectoplasmic imprints and non-living beings??
Frostbite knows everything Danny tells him about. Obviously. He was there for almost everything, too. But he lets Danny ramble on in a way that his parents never had, letting Danny explain his own history to him with new eyes and new words. It’s cathartic. Danny clings to Frostbite’s fur as the yeti walks around their living space, skinning and deboning Sky Whale meat to add to tonight’s meal. An adolescent human really weighs nothing to him. It’s so funny.
“I am glad to know that you are able to take advantage of the histories,” Frostbite rumbles. Danny preens. “What encouraged you to seek them out?”
Danny goes quiet.
Frostbite looks over his shoulder to look at Danny, but lets Danny resolve his silence on his own terms.
“...I wanted to see. If.” Danny licks his lips. Frostbite hums, showing that he’s listening. “If…if there’s records of a real ghost society, with its own language and culture and everything…they’ve gotta listen, right?”
The round knife in Frostbite’s hand stills.
“They always say that…that ghosts are just pretending, that there’s nothing to ghost consciousness, that there’s nothing to anyone’s existence in the afterlife. But there’s records.” Danny’s throat tightens. “There’s known history. There’s language and a syllabary and…and there’s political conflict and agriculture and advanced medical care and weather charts. That has to be enough proof. If I show it to them, then they should be able to see.”
The knife gets set down. Frostbite wipes his hands on a towel. Danny can’t see his face.
“It’s gotta be enough,” Danny tries again. His throat hurts. His eyes itch. But he thinks he could be right. “So if I show it to them, and they see it, and they see how far back the knowledge goes, and how careful everyone is to take care of each other and how nice everyone is and how good, and…and…”
Frostbite’s hug is soft, and warm. It’s amazing, and it’s not his Dad’s. Danny’s Dad is never going to hug him again.
Danny cries.
“Oh, little one,” Frostbite hums, and his face looks just as pained as Danny feels. “Little Phantom, it’s not safe for you to return to them, even to drop off records. If they had wanted to know more of the Infinite Realms, they would have tried to search them. I do not think that they are willing to listen, and I am too afraid to risk your health to see if they would change their minds when confronted with evidence.”
He sobs. “But, but,” Danny cries, his throat torn with emotion. The hug pins his arms so his sides, so he just ends up snotting into his guardian’s fur. “...But I need them.”
“I know, little one.”
“They loved me,” Danny cries, because he knows that it had been true— that, once upon a time, there had been a family made of Jazz, Danny, Mom, and Dad. “They… Frostbite, I miss them so bad!”
Frostbite’s arms tighten. He lowers himself to the ground, until Danny is in a nest of yeti fur and pain and devastation and little else.
“I know, little one,” Frostbite says, because there’s no other reassurance he can give.
“I won’t… They’ll never want to see me again!”
“...I am so sorry,” Frostbite murmurs, endlessly patient with him. His ears are pulled back, his eyes taut with stress.
He can’t help it. He breaks down.
Danny clings. He cries— long, and loud, because pretending that he had a home to go back to had only worked until it stopped. He wants to go home. He wants to pretend to be all-human again.
He’ll never go home. He’ll never pretend to be all-human again.
He’ll do his lessons and Jazz will ferry his schoolwork to and from Casper High but he’ll never live with her again— never do his homework on her bed, never watch Dr. Phil with her on the couch, never eat lazy breakfasts with her or spend nights wondering if she’d come home safe from her date.
Sam and Tucker can visit, but they’ll never be able to stay; every trip will be stolen, surreptitious, since they don’t have a reason to be in his house anymore. No more Tucker and Sam gaming nights. No more trips to catch dinner together at the Nasty Burger.
No more Ops Center. No more house.
No more of Danny’s bedroom.
Because otherwise, Mom and Dad would know. And they would get him.
Mom and Dad don’t love him anymore. And…that’s the end of it.
So Danny cries himself out. Wipes off his nose with his undershirt sleeve. Resolves to get over himself. It hurts, because everything hurts, but there’s still life to be lived, kind of. Probably.
Presumably.
He doesn’t let go of Frostbite, though, who doesn’t let go of him; so Danny ends up eating his rare Sky Whale stew on a furry throne made of guardian yeti, blearily shoving food in his mouth until his stomach stops cramping.
Frostbite puts him back into his coat, one arm at a time. Frostbite carries him out of their cave, even though it’s usually time for a bright night’s nap after dinner. Whatever. Danny doesn't have the energy to ask what’s happening to him.
In the end, though, Danny does recognize Tundra’s Mom’s glacial ice cavern, since no one else has such carefully carved walls.
Frostbite doesn’t ask, and Neuschnee doesn’t disrupt; she sits, calm, carving a soapstone block, as Danny gets laid down on their woven carpet.
Danny blinks.
Frostbite goes, and comes back— and Neuschnee smiles wryly as Tundra gets placed down beside Danny, fast asleep and dreaming of cars.
Danny’s never been in such a huge, furry cuddle pile before, but as Frostbite lays down, his huge shoulder pushing him into Tundra’s smaller form in a cascade of ghost dominoes…
It’s nice.
Danny will never have back what he had, but he has this.
…That can be enough. Right?
Danny doesn’t know the answer for sure, but he falls asleep still thinking about it, the scrape of knife on stone all that he can hear.
…Sure. This can be enough for now.

Would they peel an orange for you?
Tumblr media
Yes, I saw the TikToks and thought about doing it before I remember I don't have boyfriend
Yes, unprompted
Thoma
There is approximately 30-40 minutes between the time Thoma gives ayato his evening tea and when ayaka needed to be escorted to town.
And like clockwork Thoma would be waiting for you under a tree in the residence, on a somewhat secluded corner with a tray with two tea cups and a little platter with cut up solsettias and oranges.
Even if one day you arrive early where he is still getting settled and just about to start peeling and ask to do it for him he just smiles but refuses with his head.
“ Don't worry about it! Why don't you drink the tea? It's a new blend that arrived today, though you would like it”
Childe ( he is used to peeling fruit for his sibling)
Itto ( hear me out, he hears a girl mention a novel where the main character gets fed apple slices while sick and how attentive that was and immediately starts a competition with nobody to prove himself the 'bestest' boyfriend ever"
Yes, if asked
Zhongli
He doesn't have the same nutritional needs as humans, where we would need variety of vegetables and fruits, grains and meat in his dragon form he only needs three cows every month, now as a human his metabolism had slowed significantly, even then it would be strange to only buy kilos of meat once a month and nothing else.
That is where you help him out, going to his house for diner and lunch to not let the good rot.
“ I saw green tangerine at the stall and decided to buy them” zhongli settles the fabric bag on the table “It reminded me of such a delectable tea I had a while ago, I guessed I would have my hand at it, it will take at most 10 years only”
“ Tea inside tangerines? It sounds nice. Do you think I can eat one, I never had one” he nods from the kitchen putting away a bag of rice and other things while he mumbles about only needing the skin “I don't really want to peel it though… Can you peel it for me?”
Zhongli looks at you, head slightly turned but he smiles as he answers “ as you wish” he walks to the table and grabs a knife, before skillfully cutting the skin and stabbing a wedge “open wide”
Kaveh
Kaveh might work as an architect, loving the flow and composition of his buildings, but that love extends further away to other areas of art, from painting to rug making to clothes, so when you ask him for help when remodeling your home ( you paying) he was on cloud nine.
Walking and haggling the price all around the grand bazaar from 7 am (he insisted all the good things arrived early) to 3 pm was expectedly tiring to your legs and to your head, seeing how happy kaveh was with a 20 mora discount. So when you two stopped at alhaitham’s house to leave some bags you threw yourself on the ergonomic couch that was on the living room.
“Oh, we didn't stop to drink anything all morning, do you want some water and…” you could hear him rummaging around the shared kitchen for something to offer “ … some oranges?”
You only sigh but nod, even if you knew he wouldn't see “ water is fine. I don't want to peel anything, I hate how the smell lingers on my fingers”
Kaveh brings a jug with cool water “ I can peel it for you if you want, I don't really mind”
“... Yes, please “
Diluc ( would ask a maid the first time but when they tell him what it means he starts peeling it himself)
Neuvillete (furina said it was something sweet between lovers and it stuck with him)
Wriothesley
Not really/ doesn't find the point:
Alhaitham
At breakfast he doesn't like to eat heavy, not wanting to dirty his kitchen before going to work and not having much appetite so early. Usually a warm cup of tea or coffee and a bit of fruit or bread.
Seeing as he was picking an apple from the bowl on the kitchen you ask him to pick you an orange to which he only nods and grabs you a knife.
Leaving it in front of you he sits on the contrary chair and bites through the apple and sips his tea.
“ I don't really want to peel it, though… maybe someone could do it for me” you look at him, hinting at him
“ Do you want an apple then? You don't have to peel it” he doesn't look up from the book on the table even as you sighs
Wanderer (rat man)
Kaeya ( does it because you asked him but doesn't find the point in asking him for such a small favor. Prefers showing love/care in other ways)

TRADITIONAL FOODS OF THE HIGHLANDS
The Highlands or 'Greathill' is a region in the central north-northwestern territory claimed by (but almost entirely uncontrolled by) the Wardi Empire. They are inhabited by a network of peoples collectively referred to as the Hill Tribes, who are not a unified or monolithic group but share ancestry, similar means of subsistence, and a common traditional diet.
The highlands are regionally unique for their altitude and relatively cool temperatures (and is the only part of the region that can expect snow on a yearly basis, with some of the highest peaks receiving snowfall year-round). The climate is overall dry, though the rivers are usually well fed by high altitude rains and snowmelt, and the river valleys are wet enough year-round to sustain woodlands and more delicate agriculture.
Most vegetables can only reliably farmed in the river valleys, and these key regions are typically under the control of specific clans or tribes who dominate intra-Highlands trade networks. Those living outside of the river valleys have only occasional access to most farmed vegetables, and foraging is an important supplement to the core diet. Hardier crops are grown on terraced slopes, and the vast majority of the landscape is used as grazing pasture.
The regional cuisine revolves around grain (especially barley and most often taken in the form of bread), meat, cheese, milk, and yogurt. The flavoring stands in stark contrast to the surrounding Wardi cuisines, traditionally being only lightly seasoned (few spices are natively available) and mostly reliant on subtle herbal flavoring, though both palates are in agreement on the value of capsaicin.
Many of the Hill Tribes (or individual clans) have trade connections outside of the highlands, but food (aside from livestock) and spices are not common imports. The majority of the population have maintained traditional culinary practices that are unique among the wider region (though with some inevitable cultural cross-pollination).
Most dishes are eaten by hand out of serving plates and bowls, with spoons used for some soups and porridges. Almost every meal is served with flatbread, which is torn off and used to collect and eat the rest of the food. It is considered good manners to save a piece of bread for last, which will be used to soak up any remaining juices after a plate is cleaned (not doing so is a mild insult to the cook).
Tea is an important part of the daily routine, and is served alongside each meal. Traditional teas in this region are exclusively herbal and consumed for both taste and medicinal purposes, and none are caffeinated (though one has a stimulant effect). Tea is by far the most popular edible import in trade with the broader Imperial Wardi region (along with salt), with imports of tea leaves being desirable and having become quite popular in the last century.
Staple foods:
Barley- the absolute most important staple grain. Most barley grown in the region is a strain that better tolerates the highland’s regionally unique combination of seasonal cold, dry climate, and high altitudes.
Wheat- more delicate than barley and not as widely grown, but a key crop in the more fertile river valleys
Kulys- a native hardy, spiny plant that stores water in its trunk and is tolerant to dry and cold seasons. Its young stalks are edible, but the fruits and flowers are of greater regional importance. The flowers are used for a lightly sweet herbal tea, and the fruits are a important to the diet and usually eaten on their own.
Amaranth- a species of amaranth is regionally native and domesticated, with seeds eaten whole or ground into flour and leaves being used for green vegetables.
Squash- grown only in the river valleys and a key item in trade within the highlands. Squashes are found nowhere else on this side of the Viper seaway, and were likely brought along overseas by the original migrant population.
Chili peppers- several strains are grown in the region (ranging from very mild to chiltepin levels of capsaicin) and mostly used to create spicy yogurt sauces and to flavor stronger dishes.
Wild onion- a region-specific onion species, tolerant of harsh growing traditions but difficult to propagate, mostly foraged.
Magah- a farmed. potato-esque tuber, more strongly flavored and bitter than potatoes.
Dairy products- dairy is foundational to the diet and used to create a variety of yogurts, creams, butters, and cheeses, and milk is often consumed on its own. Cattle and horse milk is preferred, khait will be opportunistically milked but have much lower yields.
Cattle- Cattle are of utmost and absolute importance to the diet (in the form of meat and milk) and overall lifestyle. Wealth is primarily measured in the size of cattle herds. The native landrace of cattle is well accommodated to altitude and seasonal cold, though many breeds have been obtained in trade.
Horses- (the small, three toed kind) They are of secondary importance to cattle in terms of livestock, used for meat, wool, and milk.
Taarn- a type of pheasant native to the region that has been domesticated for meat, fares best in river valleys.
Honey- Beekeeping is a well established practice, and honey is the sweetener of choice and highly valued. Bee larvae are also sometimes roasted and eaten.
Bread- made with wheat, amaranth, or barley flower (or all three), a part of most meals. A type of flatbread is used as a base to scoop up other parts of the meal.
Wild game:
gazelle, antelope, hippegalga, and deer.
aurochs (sometimes found in the low river valleys and foothills)
crocodiles (mainly found in the Erubin river valley)
ducks and geese
unkata (a genera of cassowary sized flightless birds, a smaller subspecies of which can be found here as a grazer)
grynaig (a native species of pidgeon which nests among boulders)
piispiispi (a lagomorph that can be found at high altitudes, somewhat resembles a marmot. The name is onomatopoeia based on their shrill calls)
fish (especially trout), frogs, freshwater mussels, and crayfish from the rivers.
Native fruits: wild plum, dirrucag (a shrub that produces small fruits, roughly comparable to autumn olive), wild rose hips (used for tea and jams).
Other vegetables (cultivated and wild): cabbage, onions, garlic, carrots, rapeseed, peas, wild amaranth, mustard greens, nettles (the latter two also being regionally unknown and likely brought in the original migration).
Herbs/spices: relatively few spices are natively produced. Fennel is reliably grown. A type of sumac can be obtained in the river valleys, and a couple native sages and mints can be found throughout the region.
Alcohol: murre (a relatively strong (8-10% abv) alcoholic beverage made with fermented fruit and horsemilk), mead, kulys wine, and a few wheat and barley ales.
Teas/non-alcoholic beverages:
-Kulys flower tea (a mildly sweet herbal tea with nuanced, delicate flavors, usually consumed on its own without a meal)
-Brolge tea (a bitter tea made with the brulge leaf, which has a mild stimulant effect (comparable to coca in composition, but a different kind of plant) and is often consumed in the mornings. (This plant is known as bruljenum in Imperial Wardin))
-Floral tea (tea made with a variety of edible wildflowers, with plum and rose flower being especially favored, and rosehips added for tartness. Often served with milk)
-Nettle tea (favored as a soothing evening tea for its rich, earthy flavor)
-Mint tea (it's mint tea)
-Roasted barley tea (an everyday staple, often taken with milk or butter and honey, or mixed with herbal ingredients).
-Honey-garlic tea (usually uses roasted barley as a base, boiled together with garlic that has been fermented with honey. Preferred by herders for a warming effect on cold nights).
-Green tea (the preferred untreated variant of imported tea leaves)
-Fermented tea (a combination of imported tea leaves and a native preference for fermentation)
-A sour fermented horsemilk beverage, best taken with salt and/or honey.
-a fermented cowsmilk and yogurt beverage, taken with mint.
-A beverage made with mead, extra honey, hot peppers, and chopped garlic boiled together. Consumed for its warming qualities and to treat colds.
Examples of Dishes:
-flatbread (the base of most meals, made with wheat, barley, and/or amaranth flour. Assume that most non-grain based foods described here are served along or atop it)
-a spicy yogurt sauce made with finely chopped hot peppers, sometimes garlic
-a sour yogurt sauce made with sage, mint, or fennel.
-A type of thick dumpling, stuffed with a variety of foods (beef or horse, wild game, onions, fennel, magah, cheese, etc) and used as a common element of meals. Most comparable in shape to a pierogi.
-fried or baked dough balls with cheese and herbs
-taarn pheasant with a butter and plum or dirrucag sauce.
-beef stock soup with dumplings, onion, and curd cheeses
-beef or horse tartare with melted butter. Sometimes eaten on its own, sometimes sprinkled with herbs or topped in a spicy yogurt sauce.
-wheat or barley porridge with milk, yogurt, or butter, sometimes sweetened with honey.
-broth made with beef trotters and lightly flavored with herbs, often used as a base for other dishes but usually sipped.
-savory barley porridge cooked in beef or horse stock (often as a base for meat dishes)
-cheese, beer, and meat stock soup, often with peas, onions, magah, barley, and/or amaranth.
-yogurt, mint and fennel soup
-plain yogurt with mint and honey
-a mildly sweet porridge made with mashed squash, barley, and milk
-sweet snacks made with amaranth seeds, honey, and dried fruit.
-piispiispi stuffed with herbs and onions and roasted
-mashed magah, basic dish of thoroughly cooked magah, mashed with butter, cream, or yogurt.
-boiled, minced magah with minced meat, mild peppers, and fennel, best topped with a sour yogurt sauce.
-mustard and other wild greens, usually cooked down with butter or beef fat and mixed with onions
-an absolute litany of cheeses, often made with delicate herbs or strong peppers. Soft cheeses are generally favored and most widely used in cooking, hard cheeses are eaten on the go.
-Beef or horse testicles, usually cooked in a butter sauce as part of a larger meal. (most commonly obtained as a byproduct of gelding, in which case it is thought to uniquely boost fertility in ways that testicles obtained in slaughter do not)
-a mild pastry stuffed with soft cheese and topped with honey
-a nettle soup and onion soup, best taken in a fish or shellfish broth for enhanced umami flavor.
-Cow head that has been de-haired and de-brained, smoked, and slowly cooked with herbs and vegetables until tender. This is eaten at wedding celebration- the husband's family will have slaughtered the cow as a bride price. The husband and wife are given the choice, fatty cuts, the marrying families share the rest of the meat, and the broth is sipped by all guests.
-cow or horse brain, minced and fried in butter with onions and served atop mashed magah.
-blood sausage, with grain or magah and wild onions for filler.
-a spicy soup or stew made with boiled crayfish, onion, hot peppers, and cream.
-smoked trout with honey
-roasted honeycomb with larvae

For anyone else out there facing a heatwave (it's 38° for me right now 🙃🙃🙃), I can't recommend enough that you prep a bunch of cold food. Uncooked foods will do in a pinch, but eating cold food that actually feels like a meal is both incredibly refreshing and a massive relief.
These 👇 are the recipes I've been living on for a while now. Everything can be made on the stovetop or microwave so you don't have to turn the oven on. Do your cooking at night once the outside temperature is below your indoor temp. Open the windows and get a breeze in if possible.
Cook and chill foods:
Pasta salad (Italian, Greek, Caesar, macaroni, Thai)
Soba gets its own bullet point 🤤
Grain salads (tabbouleh, barley)
Boiled eggs (add to a green salad or make into egg salad)
Sushi rolls or bowls (best eaten same night— rice gets hard if stored)
Chicken (poach then chill. Recommended because it's good cold and can be added to a wide variety of things for extra protein.)
No-cook foods:
Canned meat salads (chicken, tuna, ham)
Canned bean or chickpea salads
Sandwiches but I get bored of them so easily
Crackers and some kind of protein-y spread (peanut butter, hummus)
Platter of Stuff (bread, cheese, olives, cold cuts)
Raw vegetables and fruit
Green salads
Is that a lot of salads? Yes!! It's salad weather!!!
And if anyone has favorite recipes you'd like to share, please do. Weather report says I'm in for another 10 days of this heatwave 😭

“You seem to have slept better,” Aziraphale said, once he noticed Crowley was fully awake. The demon was propped up against the pillows, fully dressed and wrapped up in his black pallium like a snug bundle or like Achilles in mourning shrouded tight, but for a snoring cat tucked beneath his chin.
“Yeah?” Crowley peered over the edge of his dark glasses at Aziraphale.
“Yes. Ahem. Er, f-foul fiend…?” Aziraphale began.
“Yes?” Crowley tried not to roll his eyes, tried to stay patient.
“Did…did you know you have nightmares when you’re asleep?”
“No?” Crowley was surprised at the direction the conversation took. “Really?”
“Mmm-hmm. Rather…terrible ones, to be honest. You. You…scare the cat sometimes,” Aziraphale looked away, glancing down at the codex in his hand. “Made her run out of the room more than once to hide outside.”
“Oh,” Crowley shrugged, as if it didn’t matter. “I didn’t know that.”
“I thought you should know. Do you remember what you dream about? You sounded like you wanted someone to stop hurting you…?”
“No! No,” Crowley lied. “Course not. Shouldn’t even be dreaming, why would I remember what I dream about. That’s just strange and incorrect. Not befitting of a demon.”
“Perhaps not. But. Erm. Last night you didn’t. You slept quietly without thrashing about, without waking. And so I thought perhaps the exercise of sawing agrees with you. Or perhaps…” Aziraphale paused. “Ahem. Erm. There is some soup warming by the hearth, if you’d like some. I made some more soup before you woke up, something else. A different soup.
“It’s not as good as the soup from last night. This is just beans and fish from the river, with some shavings of salt fish for flavor, and a dribble of that wild garlic oil. I hope you find it passable. I’ll have to go to the market to get more things. Grains of spelt, greens, onions…perhaps by now someone will have some venison to sell, or a fat duck or goose.
“Perhaps proper nutrition will stave off the bad dreams? Falling asleep with an empty stomach might be making it worse. That is, assuming that our anatomies are somewhat like the humans. I think they are? They certainly look like us. Anyhow, I think they say that empty stomachs make for worse dreams. Or full stomachs, I don’t know. I would need a copy of Galen – do I have a copy of Galen? Wait, who’s Galen and why is that name so important when it comes to stomachs? Or is it bodies in general…?”
“Angel, we don’t need to eat to live…” Crowley began, but then closed his mouth.
“I’m sorry, what was that?”
“Nothing, nothing. Thank you, I’m looking forward to the soup. Do you want some soup with me?”
“No, there wasn’t enough for two. Well, enough for two bowls, which is just enough for one person’s meal…”
“Come on, I wouldn’t like eating it alone. Doesn’t taste as good. Let’s…go sit by the hearth and eat soup where it’s warm?”

PROLOGUE SUMMARY:
The world is in ruins. Humans and Faeries pick at each other’s teeth until the bone is whittled from flesh and all that is left is blood in their wake. They had been created equal, once. To think, they’d all fall prey to their own hubris. This is not what the Goddesses wanted. To Prythian, they are sending scouts to decide whether their world is worth saving, or whether it should be devoured and remade anew.
This is a dark fantasy, eldritch horror fic that may end up being unserious more often than not.
AUTHOR'S NOTES: Hey, remember that You Wanted a Villain snippet? It's now a fic! I probably won't post the updates here, so follow on AO3 if you like. I'm just gonna be vibing with this one, writing that self-indulgent shit 👌
READ ON AO3 OR BELOW THE CUT
The world is in ruins.
Humans and Faeries pick at each other’s teeth until the bone is whittled from flesh and all that is left is blood in their wake. They had been created equal, once. One people who would breathe life from and into nature, the other that would build upon it in ways that even the gods could not imagine. It was thought that they would complete each other, those who danced in between the trees as spirits and the mortals who sacrificed immortality for knowledge.
To think, they’d all fall prey to the same selfishness.
This is not what the Goddesses wanted.
Creatures skitter across the cracked dry ground, gathering their offerings in the form of sticks, grain and withering greens. Very little survives in the Black Lands, an old forgotten place where myth and legends roamed free. The mound grows and grows until it overflows, a tidal wave of activity where not even the wind dares to blow.
A wolf lopes towards the pile and the vermin part in reverence. It bows its head, honouring the ghost that sleeps here.
Smoke billows to the West, another prickle of life in this forgotten place. A small spark blooms into a shy flame; it casts dancing shadows across the withered bark of the Black Forest (now made only of skeletons). It distracts from the cloaked figure haunting these lands.
He darts into the wide maw of an unlit cave, clothes billowing behind him with just a breadth of magic. He hides from no one, but he makes no noise, giving way to stirring of the Black Lands—a quiet, haunting symphony. (It can be heard by those who listen with more than their mortal tools. Its revival should wring in their guts, twist them into knots and let bile rise back up into their gullets.)
The Stranger clenches his fist, tighter and tighter, until the strength of his nails cut into his palm. Blood trickles down his palm and into a small black bowl on the ground.
Awaken, he beckons, not with words, but his entire being.
The Black Lands shudder.
They are coming.
***
Late.
A sentiment that echoes through the Black Lands, like a steady unimpressed voice. The Wolf and the Billowing Smoke met the Stranger, the former’s shoulders stuttering in muffled laughter. The Smoke simply laughs openly without a care in the world.
“Is our little Nightshade upset?”
The Stranger’s ethereal blue eyes narrow and his nostrils flare in clear annoyance. Beings of their age need not words, those are a creation of later when the abundance of races needed some universal language that was not power. He says nothing, jaw flexing in all the things he won’t be goaded into saying. There is only one creature in the world that breaks the Stranger’s composure and it is of the greatest unfortunate that it is made of smoke and sass.
“He is so angy,” the Smoke continues, a wicked smile forming on its pale imitation of a face.
“Angy is not a word,” the Stranger finally snaps.
“And he speaks the mortal tongue! Oh, it sounds good on you, angry one.”
The Wolf’s tail sways side to side, content to be in the presence of its missing counterparts. Johannes, Ballika, it growls through their minds and through the very Earth itself. There is no one here to hear them, no use in containing themselves, but soon—soon, they will need to exist as a fraction of themselves. It has been too long. Tipping its head, it acknowledges them both as peers.
Johannes, the Stranger from the Black Lands, halts his inner machinations on how to exhort physical pain on something intangible. (He would, first, have to change its shape from vapid smoke to something heavier. Perhaps a different element, something so leaded he’d find himself trapped within layers and layers of ground. Bye, bye, Johan would wiggle his fingers and enjoy the peace he’s claimed for himself. A mere fantasy, but a comforting one.) He nods in return.
We have work to do.
The mission sobers them up from bickering and heartfelt reunions. Somewhere in this world, a fracture has widened and widened, disconnecting it from its roots—from what it should be: a Sanctuary. There are others, places where Gods have had their fill of Creation, but those were made in their image and turned to poison as soon as they were left on their own. This world, their world and former home, was built on billions of years of hope. Hope that it would be better than any other existence. It is their job to restore the heart of the Goddesses, but they can only do that by finding the source of the discord.
We will begin with Prythian. My initial investigation points to there.
The Wolf and Ballika nod. Each of them is to return to their home Continent, to the Courts they once commanded. Johan, the former yawning abyss that darkened the Northern skies. The Wolf will return to its prowl across the South and the West. Ballika will swallow the lands made of Smoke. Back to the homes in which they were each born.
“Shall we place bets?” Smoke billows around his younger brother, perching on the shoulders of his little nightshade only to be shaken off.
The Goddess coddled you far too much, Ballika, if you think this is a game, the Wolf grumbles and begins his journey towards the Spring Court.
“Oh, it’s been millenia since we’ve been let out. Let’s have a little fun.” He looks around to hound Johan instead, but finds him to be gone. “I wager there won’t be a continent left by the time we join him. Hold, Wolf, hold. Let us watch and see.”

WIP for Life, Despair & Monsters, the Enemies to Lovers Meme for The Silver Chronicles, specifically for Silva and Faith, and the Dialogue Meme for Archangel Metatron and Xiang Ba'al for Wings And Horns WIP.
A snippet of my DDLC WIP You Make My Heart Go Doki Doki Literature Club! Monika has the opportunity to taste her first meal in the real world... a bowl of rice porridge. This WIP is still under heavy construction so things may change in the near future:
Once she had found a relatively empty area, devoid of prying students (and concerned clubmates), Monika sat down on the corner of a stone slab.
Taking one last look around for any lingering peers, Monika's relief was interrupted by the grumble of her empty stomach, yearning for the hot consumable in her hands.
She seated herself down on the cool stone, the shade of the cherry acting as additional protection from the eyes of others. Her skirt acted as a blanket against the slab's roughness.
Monika, though having no previous set opinion on buildings like her high school (the falsity of that reality notwithstanding), however, here she couldn't stop herself from really admiring the architecture. If this were a digital world, as she feared it could still be, she'd still be impressed by the level of detail that its developer's implemented.
But if this really was the reality she yearned for... she was absolutely breathless.
Her stomach rumbled in demand of sustenance once more.
And hungry, she reminded herself, placing the heated bowl of boiled grains on her lap. Faced once more with one of the mandatory functions of having a real body, the anticipation set in.
Hunger was never a concern she had prior in the game unless it was demanded for a scene, but with her new life, she was going to have to make this a daily occurrence.
She looked down at the simple rice porridge, or rather, okayu. At first, she hesitated stabbing her spoon into the bowl. After all, the mix of hot soggy rice drenched in boiled water hadn't looked very appealing. However, it was amongst the few meals she found out could soothe an ailing stomach (after the incident that occurred prior to the week), and the alternative dishes weren't optional today.
In addition, it wasn't something that had existed in the game.
I will give credit though, Monika thought as she dipped the spoon's head into the melted grains, It does smell way too good for something that looks so unappealing.
She brought a small spoonful up to her lips, blowing gently on the heated rice, she closed her eyes before swiftly shoving it in her mouth.
Her eyes involuntarily opened, green irises widening at the new sense. Spoon still in her mouth, her tongue slathered itself in the porridge. The watery texture of the rice grains was dull, and yet, softly comforting in its heat. The mix of boiled rice and water tasted surprisingly nice, and when swallowing it, she hummed in satisfaction as .
It was nothing she had ever felt before; she could never have any sense of taste in the few moments she got to eat in the game. All it was in that prison was nothing. Less than nothing. But here...
Her eyes welled with tears as she stabbed another spoonful into the porridge. She didn't know if this was reality or a less limited version of her former one, but she was grateful for this all the same. In quick succession, she had nearly devoured half the porridge, and savored in a dish by looks alone shouldn't be this good.
She wouldn't be satisfied until the entire porridge was empty in the bowl.
[NOTE: I will most likely rewrite this scene in the future, as I want Monika's reaction to be a lot more impactful, considering in the game she probably could never truly "taste" the food she "ate" (if she was given the chance to eat anything that is)]
Anyway, have an enemies-to-lovers meme for the slowest-burn couple I've ever had the pleasure to make; "Boa Lurking In The Bliss", or rather my FC5 Deputy OC Silva Omar x Faith Seed ship. Also, for some reason, Silva has a questionable taste in women; most of whom (Irene and Faith) are powerful, feared and dangerous & manipulative, with the only normal commonality between them that Silva finds attractive and mesmerizing being their green eyes. Anyway, meme and template below:
Tumblr media
To clarify, these two change a lot throughout their... uh, for a lack of better words, complicated romance. Especially when it comes to Faith. Also for the "would kill", Faith would have killed Silva if Joseph gave the a-okay during the "I hate this woman for destroying my weed crops" phase, however, this ultimately changes later down the line when she realizes she has feelings. Also it's not that Silva doesn't hold a little contempt towards Faith's actions in the "Hate Meter", but she's honestly got worse people to hate (a prominent figure being her father, Adam Omar). Things get better... eventually.
I've got two Dialogue memes for two major characters in my Wings And Horns WIP; that being Archangel Metatron and Xiang Ba'al. Metatron's is first:
Tumblr media
Translation for the small text:
Have them introduce themself:
"Greetings to you, saintly soul. Have no fear. I am the Archangel Metatron, and from the Heavens, I seek your assistance."
Describe their voice, generally: (e.x. accent/type/inflection)
There's a certain gentle divinity in it, with an atmosphere of wisdom retained, like an experienced worker or an older man. Clearly masculine but not too deep.
In their own words, what are they proud of/what is their most passionate interest?
"I am impassioned by my service to the Allfather of the Heavens. Any work I do under his name I find to be an honor. One of my proudest achievements would be leading an exodus of a flock of believers out of harms way."
They've been caught doing... something! Can they talk their way out of it?
"If I can, on my word, blessedly sworn by the Allfather, his kingdoms and his children… I have a reason and probable jurisdiction too which I can and will explain."
Free space/Dramatic Monologue!
"Cadet… I wish you the best. And should your journey be… opposed by non-believers… you have my endorsement to proceed to the next life. If that means much anyway…"
[Image Reference Credits: Art of Archangel Metatron that I found posted on Quora]
And here's Xiang Ba'al's:
Tumblr media
Translation for the small text:
Have them introduce themself:
"Well, well, well… Hello there good pedestrian. You look a little down. Perhaps horrified even? All because of that dreadful soul mark isn't it? No need to worry, I'm not here to judge. I'm here to give an escape from this cursed "destiny". Who am I? Silly me, I forgot to introduce myself. I am Xiang Ba'al… and I offer you freedom."
Describe their voice, generally: (e.x. accent/type/inflection)
Xiang's voice is deep and rough, but in spite of this, he holds a certain mix of showmanship and a upperclassman (which he is not). Whether this is an act of playfulness or a mockery towards the Heavens, he often uses it when freeing humans of their red string.
In their own words, what are they proud of/what is their most passionate interest?
"I'd have to say removing those restrictive marks from those humans above had been quite liberating. Not to mention, it eventually worked in our favour… the lord dickheads in charge realised the system was collapsing and axed it before it could get worse."
Free space/Dramatic Monologue!
"Jezebel was long abandoned by her family when they allowed that perversion of a marriage to go ahead. To them, she was just property to benefit off. To me, she is my reason to continue this crusade against those pricks up above. She is why I got off my ass in Hell. She is why I learned to cook. She is why I learned to read, to write, to travel and work and do all the things a demon of Sloth would think ridiculous and a waste. They told me, "She will be the undoing of your nature." And maybe they're right. I no longer sleep the millenia away. I no longer wish for a final ending. I no longer let the rot of regret and shame chain me. But I'm not unhappy with that. Why? Because she is my reason to live. Her smile. Her cheer. Her obsession with scissors. And if bringing down the system that damned her in the first place makes her sleeps ever more peaceful, then Archangel, you can fucking bet I'm not going to stop until your superiors FINALLY GET OFF THEIR ASSES!"

Hello fellow Hellenic and green witches! I’ve been feeling very drawn to Demeter this summer, (I am a Virgo after all) especially with autumn and harvest season on its way, and have recently gone ahead and started an altar for her! So far I have a porcelain bowl with crops painted on it, as well as some pollen, Grain, Blueberries, mint, Lemonbalm, and some bumblebee jasper. What things do you find lady Demeter likes? I forage quite a bit and am a gardener at heart so I’m pretty good as far as devotional acts go, but how might you recommend I connect with her further? I hear she’s one of the more intimidating gods, (although I already work with Artemis and Poseidon so it’s not like I’m going in blind lol) but I was wondering if there are any things to avoid upsetting her as well. Looking forward to getting to know her better and learn her history some more, especially as autumn creeps in! Let me know any tips you have for me :) - Isaac

Athena Pallas/Minerva Deep dive
To the wisest of the wise, to the goddess that tells us the wisdom, may we all cheer for her, like how men and women and all equal in war would cheer after victory.

Prayer To Athena by Liz “Morning Dove” La Posta
Oh, wise Athena with your spear and shield, protect me and my family from injustice and harm. Council me with your wisdom so that I may make the best decisions. Grant me success in my endeavors, but keep me humble so that I might not become condescending to others. I thank you for the many times you have guided me on my Path. Share with me your mysteries and I will do my best to follow. Athena my Goddess, I pray this in your sacred name, and I vow to always be your faithful dedicant.
Prayer to Athena for Wisdom
Clear-eyed Athena, unrivaled in wisdom, daughter of Zeus and Metis whose craft and wit excelled among the mighty Titans: Athena, I pray to you. Wise in all things you are, goddess; your cunning and guile are well known. In time of war you have no equal in tactics or in strategy; many armies have you guided to victory. In time of peace your blessings fall on those whose work is of the mind–friend of the philosopher, the scientist, the student. Advisor of kings, patron of clever heroes and bold-hearted adventurers, defender of the thinker, mistress of reason and understanding, goddess to whom a strong arm and a sharp sword are nothing without the sense to wield them well and the insight to know when words are worth more than weapons. Athena, grant me a sound mind and steady temper, bless me with good judgment, show me the long view.

🪻Please save Mr. Fishy🪻
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
✨Pairing: Hendery x vet!gn!reader ✨Prompt: You're a vet and he's pleading with you to save his goldfish since you're the only vet he's visited that hasn't asked him if he doesn't just want to go and buy another goldfish for three dollars. ✨Word count: 1.4k ✨Genre: fluff, humor, non idol au ☀️Authors note: I've never really written humor before, I'm not even sure I did a good job so do let me know if it was good or not. Or if you just enjoyed this one shot or not?🥰 Also I am not a vet nor a vet student so take what I've written with a grain of salt lol. I am no expert when it comes to fishes and vet terms😅
Tumblr media
Today was not like any other day at the clinic. It was unusually calm for a vet clinic and maybe you should enjoy the serenity which is often times unusual for you. Your colleagues had gone for their lunch breaks since it was so calm with not a soul in sight and you decided that sorting through the boxes would be a good thing to do now. Sort out what would be necessary to keep and what could actually be thrown away. Your colleague, Sam, had mentioned that everyone always said they'd sort the boxes out but no one had the time nor energy to do so.
"Let's see what we got then." You mumbled to yourself as you put on the radio, enjoying the slow tune of Celine Diones It's all coming back back to me now, the slow piano in the begging matching the calmness as you hummed along while pouring everything on the front desk. Pens, erasers, bobby pins, receipts, pieces of chocolate and much more fell out of the box. You started by going through all of the receipts, some of them were simple lunch receipts that your colleagues must have put in the boxes when they had bought lunch. You threw them all away in the trash can, they were more than a month old and it was hard to imagine anyone really would need a month old food receipt. Next came organizing all of the paperclips, there were way more than you had anticipated but it was nice finally having a lot of them again after going months not figuring out where all of them had gone.
The chocolate you put in a little bowl and put at the front of the desk to give to any owners coming in that might need some extra reassurance or something to calm their nerves as their beloved pet was taking in for surgery or a check up. Just as you were collecting all of the colorful pens to put away in the pen holder you saw outside of the big windows o your clinic a man rushing with incredible speed, you could not help but follow his eyes as he rushed towards the clinics doors, almost slipping past them only managing to stop himself by grabbing onto the door handle simultaneously as he slipped down because of his speed.
The wet pavement and the autumn leaves probably made it even more slippery and from what you could see and hear he had let out a shout in surprise whilst looking down at something he was holding. You started to clear some space on the desk in case he were to enter and just as you looked up again the door flew open and the man who had brown hair and a khaki green autumn jacket on barged in looking around until he saw you. "Help! Please you have to help me!" He said before rushing up to you and putting something on the desk.
"Please help save Mr. Fishy!! I cannot live without him! He's my best friend and number one supporter please I need to have him live longer!!"
You stared at him in shock not expecting him to barge in and hurriedly put a fishbowl on your desk, a fishbowl which had a very sad looking goldfish in it.
"Oh umm hello? Of course I can try and help you? What seems to be the problem with umm.. Mr. Fishy?" You asked him before looking down at the fish to see if you could figure out what the problem might be.
"No please I cannot buy another one for three doll-wait what?! You-you'll help me??" This made you look up at the man who looked at you in shock.
"Of course, we're a vet clinic and while a gold fish usually isn't a part of our visitors I cannot say no to you? I'll do my best to help your fish if you know what the problem might be?"
"Oh thank you thank you for wanting to help him! Everyone I've gone to have just told me to go and buy another one for three dollars. He suddenly started to swim weirdly and he hasn't been eating properly for a few days and I'm really worried. Just please do whatever it takes to help him. He's my favorite fish please and the snails in his tank would be so sad if he suddenly disappeared and the guppys and the discus will all be so sad if he passes away hes like the boss of the aquarium everyones best friend so please please please help him!!" The man was practically leaning over on the desk begging for you to help his fish and you couldn't help but feel bad for him. He obviously cared about the fish a lot.
"Let me take him inside to the vet room and check on him okay? You wait out here and try to calm down and then we can fix with payment and such after it." You gave him a smile as he thanked you profusely before allowing you to take the fishbowl with his little fish he cared for into the other room. As you walked in you put the bowl down on a table and put on some gloves so you can handle the fish carefully.
"Let's figure out what is wrong with you my little friend." You mumble for yourself as you put your hands into the bowl carefully to look closer at him.
-
It took you a while to figure out what was wrong with the little guy, he was having a case of fin rot on one of his fins, at first it wasn't very visible until you looked closer, you had to remove a part of his fin-nippers and use some anti-fungal treatment to make sure that he doesn't get infected again. When you walked out with the little fish the man stood up and rushes to the counter staring at you with hope.
"You do not have to worry, Mr. Fishy is alright. I had to remove a part of his fin-nippers because he had a case of fin rot. I've given him treatment but what you need to do to make sure hes okay in your tank at home is to improve the water quality in the tank and feed him vitamin c enriched food and he should be good to go."
"Oh thank you thank you thank you!!" He bowed towards you multiple times "What's your name?? I need to have a name for Mr. Fishy's savior!!" He stares at you with grateful eyes.
"My name is y/n. I'm glad I could help you and Mr. Fishy."
"Thank you again! I'm Hendery by the way! I'll pay however much it cost and I'll pay you back for your kindness."
You thanked him and told him he really did not have to pay you back a part from paying the fee. He payed and told you he'd pay you back for sure in the future before going back with his fish and the new food for his friend.
-a few days later-
The doorbell rang as the door opened again and when you looked up from the desk you saw Hendery walking in beaming as he was holding a cup walking towards you.
"I told you I'd pay you back! I got you a cup of hot chocolate! I wasn't sure If you'd like coffee but most people like chocolate so I got that!" He smiled as he handed you the cup.
"Thank you Hendery it wasn't really necessary for you to get me something I promise." you responded as you took the cup
"I wanted to okay? I gotta go but I'll see you around!" He waved as he ran out of the door again and when you looked at the cup you could see he had written a little note thanking you and asking if you wanted to hang out in the future with his number written under a little fish drawing.
You smiled as you took up your phone to put in his number, saving him as Mr. Fishy Hendery before deciding to send a text asking if he was free to hang out next Friday, smiling even brighter when you immediately got a text back saying that Friday would be perfect.
Maybe it wasn't so bad after all to help save Mr. Fishy.

Attention of the Court III
Ryan found a pack of rice in the envelope. It had some basic instructions on the back. If he keeps getting paid like last time, eating some random food a weirdo sends him seems more than worth it. He gets some water boiling and opens up the pack. The rice is yellow with red and green flecks on the grains. Take off heat and 11 minutes later minutes he has a nice bowl of rice. "That's lunch out of the way." The rice is spicy and zesty, almost overwhelmingly so. He has to wash it all down with some milk. He looks at the money again. At the very bottom of the stack is some folded paperwork saying that Ryan is being paid for entertainment. Well, time to deposit it it all at the bank. He put the money back into the envelope and went to brick and mortar bank. He expected more pushback and questions when he got there, but the paperwork explained it all apparently. They did tell him to file a form with the IRS, but the clerk actually helped him out with the information while they were waiting for word from some of the higher ups.
When he got home, it might be the release of all the stress, but he's actually very well horny. He opens up some porn on his desktop and jerks it to some smut. Oddly enough, an hour later he finds himself at the computer watching some porn and stroking his cobra, and then an hour again he's doing it and an hour later he's there again. By the time he's making dinner, he feels the urge to masturbate again he says to himself "I think I need to get laid." He redownloads grindr and looks up the address of the local gay bar. By the end of the week he's brought at least two guys back to his place every day while he's been looking at houses for him. He's having a great time to be honest, but he's a bit worried about his gut. The bloat has been getting worst. There's a noticeable bulge to his belly now, and he hasn't noticed any difference to his diet. Maybe he should go to a doctor. Good peers of the Court. It seems our dear Ryan is enjoying some debauchery, but he is now noticing something off. Now let's guide him through these strange times with a lovely pamphlet. I have a pamphlet that shall tell him Everything is Fine that will keep him lovingly ignorant of his situation. I have made a pamphlet that shall pull him into a blissful state where he shall find all his changes nothing strange, It's called Pregnancy and You. The last pamphlet I think is beautifully cruel, it shall tell him the great predicament he finds himself in and how he won't be able to escape but to continue. It goes by the name Fairies and Fools.

Woah Mr Mentally Ill posting twice in one day??
...who cares lol
Anyway– I'm here today to talk to you about the use of color in ASOUE. So let's get into it!
Okay let's start off with basics: yellow represents innocence and purple represents evil. In the early days of the first season, Sunny wears yellow colored clothes. As she gets older however, she wears more colors like pink and grey.
Purple is the color that Esmé wears at the opera. It's also the color that the man with the beard but no hair and the woman with hair but no beard wear. In the scene wear the baudelaires help burn down the hotel and help Olaf get away, Violet wears purple.
Again, going back to yellow, look at the island. Now this might be a bit of a stretch, so take it with a grain of salt. So yellow and red make orange right? So someone with not much knowledge on the subject might think that orange and white makes yellow aswell.
This is where the stretch comes in, Ishmael wants to recreate that innocence like we see in Sunny at the start. That's what VFD was supposed to do, keep childlike innocence.
While you would think red would be a color associated with evil in ASOUE, but it doesn't. It mainly represents good. The uniform on the Quequeg is red. In the show, Kit wears it at the opera. In the books, the baudelaires wear it while working at the Hotel Denoument. Klaus also wears it in some early episodes.
Blue would usually be associated with childlike innocence, but in ASOUE it's usually the loss of childlike innocence. Beatrice wears it when she throws the dart that kills Olaf's father. Klaus wears it when they steal a boat, get arrested, in the movie, and all illustrations. Sunny also wears it in later seasons, showing how she is no longer innocent. It is also the color of the sugar bowl.
Green is a neutral color. The hypnotized mill workers wear it. In the show, the baudelaires wear it when they spy on bad people. Olaf wears it in the song "Not how the story goes".
Black and white funnily enough, aren't black and white. They're blurred, both bad and good characters wearing it.
But hey– that's just my two cents!!
(If you guys wanna send me theories to talk about, send me them!)

Zucchini Stir Fry with Tofu
Serving: 4
Ingredients
1 block tofu (firm or extra firm)
Avocado oil spray (or other cooking spray/oil)
1 small shallot, thinly sliced
4 cloves garlic, minced
4 cups zucchini, chopped into 1/2-inch half moons (approx. 2 medium-large zucchini)
3 cups carrots, peeled + chopped (about 4 regular carrots)
1 large bell pepper, cored + chopped (I used red)
Salt + pepper, to taste
Optional garnish: chopped green onion, chopped parsley, toasted sesame seeds
For the sauce:
2 Tbsp toasted sesame oil
3 Tbsp tamari or soy sauce
1/2 tsp ground ginger (or 1 tsp freshly grated)
1 Tbsp rice vinegar
2 tsp cornstarch (or other thickening starch)
Directions
Prep Tofu: Drain tofu and wrap with a paper towel. Gently squeeze to remove excess liquid, then place under something heavy (like a couple cookbooks) while you prep the veggies and sauce.
Mix cornstarch with 2 teaspoons of water in a small ramekin, until a slurry forms. Then, make the sauce by whisking all sauce ingredients (including the cornstarch slurry) in a small bowl. Set aside.
Unwrap tofu from paper towel and cut into cubes of desired size.
Heat cooking spray in a large pan over medium-high heat. When pan is hot, add tofu and season with salt + pepper. Cook for 5 minutes, undisturbed. Then flip each piece and cook for an additional 5 minutes, finishing with a quick toss of the pan at the end. Remove and set tofu aside in a clean bowl.
In the same pan, cook shallots and garlic for a couple minutes until lightly browned and fragrant.
Then, add chopped zucchini, carrots, and bell peppers to the pan. Cook for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally. TIP: you can add additional cooking oil or spray as needed here. Do not salt veggies yet, to prevent zucchini from getting soggy!
Once veggies are mostly cooked, add tofu back in along with sauce. Toss together and cook for an additional 3 minutes. The sauce should thicken slightly and coat everything.
Serve stir fry on its own or over some cooked grains or noodles (see notes for ideas). Add garnish as desired and season with additional salt + pepper, if needed. Enjoy hot!
Notes
SERVE WITH:
This recipe is a great source of veggies, protein, and healthy fats and can be enjoyed on its own if desired. That said, I love serving it over a starch to round out the meal! Some ideas: • brown or white rice (as I’ve done in these pictures) • other whole grains, like quinoa, millet, or farro • your favourite noodles (I love these brown rice ones!)
RECIPE MODIFICATIONS & SWAPS:
Feel free to play around with the veggies here and use any that you like. I think this would go well with ones like broccoli, mushrooms, snap peas, eggplants, spinach, etc. It’s a great way to use up what’s in the fridge!
Instead of tofu, you could serve this with another protein. It would taste good with tempeh, shrimp, chicken, or beef! Just note that cooking times will vary, but you just need to cook the protein first and then add it into the veggies at the end 🙂
Shallot can be swapped with diced onion.
Ginger can be ground or fresh.
Cornstarch can be swapped for another thickening starch or flour, like arrowroot powder.
I love chopped green onions and sesame seeds for garnish, but you can leave these out. If you have some parsley in the fridge, you can add that in here too!
If you follow a gluten-free diet, ensure that you use a certified gluten-free version of tamari, rice vinegar, and cornstarch.
LEFTOVERS:
Leftovers of this recipe will keep for 3-5 days in an airtight container in the fridge. You can reheat them in the microwave or on the stovetop.

Mushrooms On Toast 2023
Breakfast and Brunch, Family Recipe, Mains, Simple Meals, Vegetarian
Difficulty: Easy | Servings: 1
Description:
My ever-so-slightly fancier take on a classic dish. (Only slightly—if you’re looking for a crab meat and bearnaise sauce-fancy version go find Marco Pierre White.) Suitable for brunch, lunch, or dinner. Serve with a simple salad.
Mushrooms on toast was always something I considered an easy dinner. It seemed like more of a legitmeal™️ than just making instant ramen or throwing something in the microwave, but not so complicated that I couldn’t manage it on my low energy/high pain days. As a bonus, most of the ingredients are staples in my kitchen.
I started with a fairly basic plan: “sauté sliced white mushrooms in butter with jarred minced garlic and worchestershire sauce. Serve on buttered toast. Top with poached or over-medium egg.” Over time, it evolved to sautéing a mushroom/green onion combo in butter with minced fresh garlic and thyme, then adding whole grain mustard and a bit of milk to make more of a sauce. Finally, one night I didn’t feel up to cooking eggs (because accidentally broken yolks are a freaking tragedy) so I decided to break the damned yolk on purpose and use the egg to make French toast as the base. ✨REVELATION.✨
My step-grandfather, Frank Otis (1932-1998), had worked as a country club chef for years and taught me to make French toast when I was maybe in junior high school. His version involved slices of a dense loaf topped with sesame seeds, dipped in a mix of one egg and just a splash of milk per slice, and shallow fried in a measurable depth of oil. Though I can’t quite remember the variety of bread he favored (maybe it was sold in a pre-sliced loaf as Texas toast?), I still rely on his egg+milk proportions.
Ingredients:
*All measurements given are approximations. Unlike baking, cooking isn’t always science. Some quantities, like garlic, you can only truly measure with your heart.
THE TOAST:
1 thick slice good quality bread (brioche if you can get it)
1 egg
1 tablespoon milk
Butter or oil for frying
THE MUSHROOMS:
2 large handfuls white mushrooms, cleaned and sliced
3 green onions, chopped and separated white/green (reserve some of the prettier green parts for a garnish)
2 cloves OR 1 tablespoon* minced garlic (fresh is great, but jarred is just fine. Conserve your energy as needed).
1 tablespoon dried thyme, crushed
Butter (or butter + olive oil) sufficient for sautéing
1 heaping tablespoon whole grain mustard (my favorite is Maille Old Style)
2 tablespoons whole milk or cream (adjust as desired)
Salt
Pepper
Finishing salt (like that jar of über-fancy fleur de sel your sister gave you a few years ago)
Directions:
For the toast:
Beat egg and milk in container large enough to fit the bread slice. Briefly soak bread in egg mixture. Cook in a sauté pan over medium heat, turning once, until golden brown on both sides. Pour any additional egg mixture in the pan and cook it, too. (Let it cool then give it to the cats—no sense wasting it!) Remove from heat; cover and keep warm in a wide, shallow bowl.
For the mushroom topping:
In the pan you cooked the toast in, add more butter. Add the garlic and thyme, then after that’s heated through and fragrant add the whites of the green onions. Cook for a few minutes. Add sliced mushrooms, salt**, pepper, and the remainder of the green onions (except the garnish bits), adding additional butter or oil if needed.
**Add a bit less salt than you think you need because you’re going to add the finishing salt later.
When the mushrooms are almost done cooking, add the mustard and milk and stir to incorporate.
Remove bread from the microwave (or wherever you’re keeping it warm). Spoon/pour mushroom mixture over the French toast. Add reserved green onions and finishing salt. Take a photo for Instagram as proof you cooked.
