anyway I did finally beat the final boss in totk :) the last bit of the second form was definitely the hardest for me, until I remembered I had 40 bomb flowers and he didn't seem able to dodge those lol (I also forgot to photograph the first form, not that my compendium was otherwise complete anyway I was missing like 50 things)
I did see the last player action before I actually got to the final boss which is why I wanted to be sure matt was home for it cuz I thought it was really cool. I thought her speech in the field was a little clumsy but like, that's not out of character. overall very nice.
I think the game as a whole was really fun, and honestly there's so many qol improvements that I'm not sure I'll ever replay the first one unless I'm specifically doing it to experience them both back to back. I also really liked being in a pre-established world, where people had preexisting connections to the main character and reacted as such. and I'm glad I had it to give me something entertaining to focus on when my body felt like it was shutting down last month.
I had to look up the locations of most of the sage's wills and a couple dozen side quests (including a handful of wells) and like 2 shrines. the quest to get the locator for the purah pad and the sage stuff in the ruins were both kind of persnickety for me. also I never fought a lynel successfully even though I killed every other type and rank of monster at last once.

You've been isekai'd to the fictional world of what you last played, read or watched (whatever was the most recent option)…what was it, would you survive and what would you do in it?
last fictional world i dabbled in was Tears of the Kingdom and thankfully i survive because most npcs are indestructible
as for what i would do ... probably be menaced by bees. maybe open a second branch of the dye shop?? (full dyes when) or ..
wait NO waIT NO WAiT i take it back
I AM OPENING UP A HEADPIECE SHOP!!!!!!!!
botw and totk are fun but the negative fashion points given by most headgear is just. such a travesty. I am going to be the change I want to see in that world and offer alternatives for people who don't want to wear a fantasy traffic cone on their head.
this did remind me that i've actually been sitting on some art i gotta finish with this exact concept in mind

My brain is buzzed and buzzing.
HW Zelda spent a good portion of her time with Link disguised as Sheik. She decided to keep her identity a secret from even Impa, which means she probably had to change her personality a little to make it convincing. So this entire time, Sheik and Link work together and fight together, and Link got to know this different persona. So when she revealed herself as Zelda, I wonder how that changed their relationship and dynamic?
Imagine Zelda is falling for Link but Link is falling for someone who doesn’t exist. Imagine Link’s agency and consent are so ambiguous because destiny determines that Link and Zelda are always together, that they have to be together, at least according to Lana and Cia.
I don’t know, I just have a lot of thoughts about HW Zelink. Not all of them are great. But I suppose if people write it well I can like it.
#Hyrule warriors#idk y’all#like I think it can work#But that line about them always having to be together really bugs me#Anyway it does make for an interesting dynamic at least#When the game decides it’s a giant fanfiction anyway and does all the fan service#It makes it different because they’re so self aware about the Hero and the Princess#Like BotW kind of has that too but they… idk I just like how they did it better#I probably shouldn’t be babbling about this or the zelink shippers will come after me XD#Whatever#I’m tired#Legend of zelda#hyrule warriors zelda#hw zelda#I haven’t played the game maybe I’m just reading too much into it#Golden mercy

Can I have the au from this post?
Looks super fun!
/nf
Hi there friend!
Full disclosure, I actually kind of forgot about this fic until you brought it up, and I only have one thing written for it- but if you'd like to see more, I'd be more than happy to write more for this! I think it's a really cool concept and it makes me so happy to know that people would actually like to see it.
I'll post the ficlet under the cut. I hope you enjoy!
Oh, and a quick note: It’s not exactly how I’d rewrite the story from Speedrunner!Link’s perspective, more like how the aftermath would go if you took the speedrunner approach.
It’s over, it’s finally over. The thing that had loomed over Hyrule Castle ever since he woke up two days ago was gone- hopefully for good.
He gazes at the girl across from him- Zelda, the old man had said her name was- the girl covered in malice and the grime of a century of hatred. Her blonde curls are matted and tangled and she’s covered in what looks like burn scars as she stares back at him with eyes the color of things that are alive- the only bright spot in her tarnished facade.
She blinks, hesitant, as if she’s not sure whether to stand there or run to him and fling her arms around him. He doesn’t know which he wants. So he stands there catching his breath, and she stands there dithering, and then the fleetest flicker of a smile crosses her pale lips, and she says:
"May I ask... Do you really remember me?"
He stands there, because he doesn't really know what else to do. How could he? Her smile is widened in anticipation of what she wants to hear, a smile so warm and bright and hopeful that it makes him want to say yes, of course I remember you and see that smile turn to tears of joy that they can cry together.
But he can't. He couldn't lie to her. It would break her heart. He doesn't remember a thing about her- everything he knows about her he's learned in the past 48 hours.
So it's all he can do to clear his throat and stammer out, "No."
The smile vanishes in an instant, replaced by knitted brows and eyes full of concern. “Oh- oh, I see.” She crosses the field, her luminous gown flapping in the evening twilight like a tattered battle standard, and she halts in front of him to cup his face in her slender hands and gaze into his eyes- as if she could figure out what’s wrong with him simply by staring hard enough.
“Do… if I may… can… do you remember anything? Anything at all?”
He screws his eyes shut and tries to reach back behind the curtain of blackness, but as hard as he tries, the furthest thing he can grasp is a sweet voice- her voice- begging him to open his eyes. He shakes his head in wordless apology, opening his eyes just in time to see hers cloud with disappointment.
“I’m sorry,” is the only thing he can think to mumble.
“Not your fault,” she mutters back, almost to herself. She’s lost in a reverie, thinking of what next to do, and then her eyes snap back to his and the disappointment is replaced by determination.
“You know what? That’s not important right now. We’ll figure something out. Just… come with me; we’ll make camp somewhere and pick this up in the morning.”

instead of plotting a fic or writing some drabbles like a normal person I have figured out a version of Liz's story in the form of "playable" side quests so uh. have the first installment of Liz-centered BOTW quests i guess
The Lizalfos Who Learns: after completing the Reach Zora's Domain quest, you can speak to Dunma, a Zora guard, who will tell you about an unusual monster. She's not certain of what she saw, since none of the other guards have seen it and it's difficult to keep track in the chaos of a skirmish, but she thinks she's spotted a particular Electric Lizalfos that runs away instead of fighting like other Lizalfos in the Lanayru Wetlands. She even swears this monster was carrying flowers, not weapons. It’s so odd that it’s actually concerning, but she's never had time to track down this Lizalfos with everything else going on in the Domain.
It's not easy to find, but you can search the Lanayru Wetlands and spot an Electric Lizalfos with flowers tucked into its armor, even without speaking to Dunma beforehand. It's most likely to be out in the open during a Blood Moon, staring up at the sky. If you approach, it will go through the same alert animation as other monsters, but then immediately turn and run away at full speed. You can pursue it or attack it but it won't stop running until it reaches deep water to hide or you kill it, at which point it drops normal Electric Lizalfos loot. It registers as Unusual Lizalfos to the camera with its own Compendium entry:
Lizalfos are known for being smarter than other monsters, but this one acts more cowardly than conniving. It seems to like flowers, and spends a lot of time watching the moon. It runs away whenever it sees a person. With such an unusual reaction, perhaps there is more to this monster than meets the eye?
If you report back to Dunma with a picture at this point, she will wonder how this monster spends its time if it doesn't fight. She's seen it hanging around cooking pots before, but it always ran away before she could tell what it was doing. If only she was a little bit stealthier, or had some kind of disguise. Even a way to track it to tell where it runs off to would be reassuring.
You will need to either dowse for the Unusual Lizalfos with the Slate or manually find and follow it to a cooking pot. Getting close enough to observe will require enhancing your stealth or equipping Kilton's Lizalfos Mask. On new moon nights, the Lizalfos will go to the cooking pot by Soh Kofi Shrine, spending about an hour there before going through a cooking animation at midnight and producing a low-strength Sneaky Elixir. On third quarter or seven-day moon nights, the Lizalfos will go to the cooking pot by Boné Pond, spending about an hour there before going through a cooking animation at midnight and producing a medium-strength Enduring Elixir. On full moon or Blood Moon nights, the Lizalfos will go to the cooking pot due west of Wes Island, spending about an hour there before going through a cooking animation at midnight and producing a high-strength Hasty Elixir. Each time, the Lizalfos will inspect the elixir, look unhappy, and leave, giving you the option of collecting the elixir for yourself.
Once you have observed all three instances, you can report back to Dunma with an explanation of the Lizalfos's activities. She will ponder the significance of a monster trying its hand at cooking. Although it's concerning, she ultimately dismisses it as nonthreatening, since the Lizalfos didn't take and use any of the elixirs it made. If it's trying to imitate people, clearly it's doing a poor job of it. She will thank you and reward you with 50 rupees, ending this first side quest.

Idea: The Adult and Downfall timelines combined before Adventure of Link.
Hear me out: So I’ve seen the theory that the south western third of world map in Adventure of Link could possibly be an older version of the Akkala and Eldin regions of Breath of the Wild. The biggest evidence to this being that Death Mountain is in the south west here, where as in most zelda maps is usually in the north east of hyrule.
But this begs the question “where then is the rest of AoL’s Hyrule?”
Well, if you go back to BotW’s map, you’ll see that across the chasm at the edge of the north map, there’s the elevated plateaus of foreign lands. So elevated in fact, that, if Hyrule were to be entirely flooded, those lands would be largely untouched.
So my theory, that the kingdom of Hyrule in Adventure of Link is the same kingdom as New Hyrule in Spirit Tracks but centuries later. The very lands that Tetra and the Hero of Winds had founded after Wind Waker.
Meaning that some time after the events of Spirit Tracks but before the sleeping princess Zelda of Adventure of Link was cursed, the worlds of the downfall timeline and adult timeline combined. Considering the amount of lost history in AoL’s time, it wouldn’t be surprising if a collision of conflicting timelines was the cause.
Ganon’s existence also confirms the combining as we know that Ganondorf the man had been killed at the end of Wind Waker in the adult timeline. while Ganon the monster kept coming back like a cockroach in the downfall timeline, despite the Hero of Legends many efforts.
As for what becomes of the joined timeline after Adventure of Link, my theory is that a combination of the oceans receding and the growing scarcity of resources in the land would motivate the people of hyrule to migrate back to the old lands once again.
Then after this, the joined timeline and the child timeline finally combine, thus ending what would be called “The era of Myth”. A name that was chosen largely due to all the confusing timeline conflicts that historians couldn’t possibly untangle, and so they chalked it all up to being a bunch of myths and legends. Some time after this we would get the sheikah technological revolution, and with it the events of Breath of the Wild’s the ancient hero.

I only found 6 of the sage's wills on my own but I got a map for the rest, the king gleeoks honestly weren't bad at this point but I did accidentally fell one off the side of the sky island which wasn't enough to kill it and it just kinda. got lost down there. so I had to start that one over rather than chase it down and have to re-glide all the way back.
I've just got the completionist fabrics and some armor left, and I'm not super invested in doing all that. so I might finish the game next time matt is home and free.

At the risk of being beset by a bunch of BotW players who vehemently disagree, I’m gonna come out with a bit of a hot take…
I… actually like the weapon durability system.
No, really.
I actually like having weapons that eventually break (with some exceptions, but I’ll get to that later). That said, I’m also well aware that has more to do with how I like to play games. Namely that, I like resource management and strategizing.
With a weapon that doesn’t break, every battle is a war of attrition of wailing on the enemy with whatever deals the most damage. However, with breakable weapons, you have to think more about what weapons you use and where. Like sure, you could use a royal guard claymore to take out a lizalfos in a couple swings, buuut you’re in need of a lynel hoof; so you would rather save your harder hitting weapons for that future battle.
It also encourages the player to make use of the game environment. It was rather kind of the developers after all to put these conveniently placed boulders on top of a hill leading to an enemy camp. It’d be a shame not to use them. Whatever little bit it takes to whittle down the enemies before the player has to go in with their finite amount of weapons.
Additionally, it allows for a wider variety of weapons with different properties. Instead of one bow that never breaks, the player can use a sniper bow or a three shot bow. You could use a sledgehammer, or use a giant boomerang or giant, glowing chainsaw. If weapons didn’t break, there wouldn’t be as wide a variety of weapons as there are, because that would clog up inventory space fast.
The only exceptions I don’t really like this for are the champion weapons and the Hylian shield. Yeah, I know they can be replaced with the right materials, but then it’s just a replica of the weapon, not the same weapon once held by your comrades who fell in battle 100 years ago. Kinda feels a little awkward slinking back to whatever settlement that weapon was from and going “Heeey, so I was kinda sorta fighting with a moblin with the weapon of great emotional and cultural importance to your people, as well as one of the last few reminders of your beloved Lady Mipha, when I sorta accidentally broke it over its head. You’re not too mad at me, are you Muzu?”
Same thing goes for the Hylian shield. Sure, you can buy a replica, but you had to earn that shield by fighting a stalnox. On top of that, you only get one chance to get a Hylian shield with a modifier on it. Once that breaks, only standard Hylian shields are available.
This would’ve been an easy fix, though. Just have the respective blacksmiths be able to repair the weapon in addition to replacing it. It would still cost resources (maybe even money because there isn’t a whole lot to spend rupees on in the late game), but then there’s at least the chance of them being used instead of hanging on Link’s weapons display, collecting dust in a house he’s barely in.
#legend of zelda#botw#branches babbles#So yes#I was glad to see weapon durability returning in the sequel#TotK
