You've been distant. Well you've never reached out to people before this either, but you're more distant than usual.

Xie Lian and Hua Cheng noticed immediately.

How you start declining things, how you just sit to the side, you don't talk much, You let them sleep alone, eat dinner alone.

You stop being near them. The kisses you give dwindle down to nothing and the words "I love you" have been reserved.

They haven't a clue why. Xie Lian and Hua Cheng have tried to think of every reasonable possibility but don't know why

Why would you want to be alone when it's supposed to be the three of you together?

It gets to the point where they have to visit you instead of the other way around. Paradise Manor, and Puqi shrine is all of your homes but you don't show up to either one anymore.

You're hiding away at your own place and they just don't know what to do

It really breaks Xie Lian's heart because you've been by his side all these years why do you want to leave now?

Hua Cheng is equally devastated. He would do anything for you and Xie Lian but you're pulling away.

The two can only think that maybe you just don't love them anymore, maybe you're tired of them?

You would never do that though

Xie Lian doesn't like it and neither does Hua Cheng. They intend to get to the bottom of it because they love you.

They would try to give you space but when it seems to only make it worse they don't stop bothering you

That's what it seems like you need, to be bothered.

Xie Lian keeps asking, and caring for you

Hua Cheng gets insecure. He knows he's good that Xie Lian loves him but do you? You aren't disgusted by him are you? Contrary to popular belief ghost kings get insecure too

You are pathetic, at least you feel like you are. Hiding away like a bug under a rock. You don't know when it started and you couldn't control it when it got out of hand. It's nothing against Xie Lian and Hua Cheng, you love them dearly. But the problem you have feels like a problem you can't even bring up. You don't want to hurt them.

Would you hurt them more by bringing it up or staying hidden?

So you've been... Lying here. Bed rotting. If you can even call it that. You're actually just lying under a rock. Very literally. You're hanging out in a small cave. It's nothing you aren't used to you used to do it with Xie Lian all the time.

You could've gone to the heavens and hidden up there but you don't have friends. You have Feng Xin, and Mu Qing but you know they would snitch on you if it came to Xie Lian. So here you are under a rock. Overthinking.

You always overthink, it's why you left in the first place. You also felt selfish. It's hard to see Xie Lian and Hua Cheng together. You love them both, honest! But what do they even need you for? They look perfect without you, like they were made to just have each other. You felt like you were getting in the way, or like a third wheel.

You know they love you too but... It feels so difficult to be included. When Hua Cheng first showed up he immediately was able to take Xie Lian's side and help him with missions. Which was fine you guys needed the extra help anyways but then you learned their pasts. They're just so intertwined with each other

Hua Cheng built temples for Xie Lian, released 3,000 lanterns, built statues, fought in war, challenged 33 gods, cut out his eye, and died 3 times for him, and broke his shackles! What could you possibly add to the relationship. No one could care for Xie Lian better than Hua Cheng.

Xie Lian saved Hua Cheng when he was a child, and stayed with Wu Ming. Gave him a coral pearl, and red string. What have you done?

All the heavens talk about is Xie Lian and Hua Cheng. The ghost realm is the same. You were never a prominent figure so people forget you're even there. They don't even know you're their lover too.

So yes it's hard, and maybe it's selfish that you want to feel more included when they already spoil you when anything you could ask for. Which is why you're hiding in a small, dumb cave. You eventually fall asleep to the pitter, patter of rain.

When you wake up you aren't under a rock anymore. You're in bed. In red sheets, in a red room, red, red, red. You're at paradise manor. You wouldn't mind that if you weren't actively avoiding your lovers. You sit straight up in bed and before you can tumble out Xie Lian is at your bedside. He's frowning and has this worried look in his eyes that makes you feel guilty.

"Where have you been, y/n?" You look away and shrug. "In the cave you found me in" your lips wobble a little. You don't know what to say. What excuse could you use this time? You pick at a loose piece of thread on the blanket and notice that Hua Cheng isn't in the room with you two. ". . . Where's San Lang?"

"A-Lang" Xie Lian interrupts you and his hand finds yours "You've always called him A-Lang"

You want to crinkle under his piercing gaze. "Where's A-Lang?" You whisper glancing back at the blanket.

"Standing outside the room. Baobei why have you been avoiding us?" Xie Lian turns your gaze back to him.

"I-I just was dealing with my own issues" Your hands fist in the blankets and your eyes get watery just thinking about how selfish you've been.

Xie Lian's hand caresses your cheek, "Our issues. We can help you if you tell us."

You bite your lips and bring your hand up trying to wipe your tears before they get the chance to stream down your face. "It's selfish" you spit, venom covers your tongue. "It was a pathetic reason, really. I just was overthinking and I felt like. . . A third wheel. It's not a big deal though" You glare at the blanket. Your anger of course isn't directed at them but at yourself. Xie Lian knows this too.

"A third wheel, how come?" He runs his fingers through your hair. Him and Hua Cheng have tried everything to include you so how could one feel left out?

"It's my own fault, I just don't feel like I have anything to add. I've nothing to offer. I've done nothing compared to you two" You're completely useless like always.

Xie Lian's questioning is interrupted when the door slams open. You both jump when Hua Cheng storms in and grabs a hold of your face. He would never hurt you, you all know this. "Nothing to offer? Just who are you talking about right now?" He frowns at you with furrowed brows. "I don't think we're seeing the same person." He doesn't let you divert your gaze keeping you there.

Hua Cheng knows what you're feeling, your insecurities stemming all from feeling useless. He knows how it is. "You have everything to offer and even if you didn't we would love you anyways. You don't have to add anything y/n, you can just be" he frowns and sits on the bed.

"I think you're going blind in your other eye. I really don't have anything" you blink away tears. "This one offers so much and he doesn't even know, he's done so much for the two of us and doesn't remember. Right gege?" Hua Cheng looks at his other husband for approval and Xie Lian nods.

"This one is a heavenly official. You have to work hard to become a god in the upper court" Xie Lian adds. You scoff though. "That's not what I'm talking about, I-I haven't done anything for the two of you"

Hua Cheng wants to shake you in a jar. "You have though!" Now he's yelling and Hua Cheng doesn't yell only when it comes to the two of you. "Who's rayed by Xie Lian all these years protecting him when I was lost? You did! Who took care of Hong er when Gege's other servants wouldn't dare touch him? You did. Who gave a mongrel child their family heirloom because he had sympathy and was kind? You did!" Hua Cheng holds your face in his hands still.

"You work so hard, and have gone through so much just like the rest of us and yet you still worry about others still!"

"every night this one takes care of us and helps Gege make dinner. Every day this one protects us, every day this one thinks of us and gives his best for us!"

Hua Cheng gives endless reasons small to large. You're crying in his hands and Hua Cheng wipes them away for you.

"No one is allowed to insult my lovers, even if they're doing it themselves" Hua Cheng finishes and kisses your forehead. Xie Lian is smiling and he kisses your forehead too.

"Don't run from us anymore, you can tell us what you're thinking anytime. Me and San Lang have no problem giving you the reassurance you need" he hums and joins you two in bed. All three of you cuddle for the rest of the night and the two practically suffocate you, not allowing you to leave bed. But you love them and would gladly lie here tangled in their limbs.

Ugh having pre-canon Fenglian thoughts with some headcanons involved...

But like from Feng Xin's POV, there's a person you are protecting and you end up loving them so much too but you know he's not and will never be yours because of many, many reasons, but you sometimes imagine maybe one day you'll just like run away together and idk hunt and stuff, you're both just so good at fighting, you don't even know WHY he has a guard since you've never even been able to beat him in a fight and you've never seen him lose against anyone else.

Before you even work up the courage to say anything about it after you've both worked so hard for years and years to achieve his dream and fill your life's purpose, a war happens, and then you see his dreams shatter, and it breaks your heart to see him so badly, and there's even more of an impossibility for the both of you. So you take comfort in one of the few people from old Xianle that isn't trying to kill you, and she gives you something close to what you wanted to feel, and it's a betrayal in your heart but at least it's nice.

And then something happens while you're gone so often. Every time you return, your main love is more and more different, and then disappears completely leaving you to take care of his parents. The other love dumps you for some reason. You're hurting. But you stay and take care of the prince's family because you're hoping he'll come back, and maybe then you can talk about things.

He does eventually come back, but completely changed and angry, and he demands you leave. You feel like it's from the bottom of his heart, and so you do. You really can't take the heartbreak. Maybe you'll return in a while, but when you do, the house is abandoned with horrifying context clues.

Then you see him again 800 years later and he's back to the kind person you knew, but it's awkward the way things were left, and you want to help him so you hide yourself. And it turns out he'd rather be frolicking with someone who's tormented you for centuries than trust your judgement.

And then they're in love and happy and you're happy for him but it also tears you up inside. If you'd said something back then, before the war, would he have chosen you instead? Were you ever as important? Could you have been?

The secret answer for my favorite line is when you try to run away and Mydei calls you a little bitch (and you can say you want him to beat you up)

There are so many good Phainon and Mydei lines but I think them yelling at each other from across a chasm is the best

Reading TGCF: Chapter 32

For those who don't know, I am reading TGCF for the first time and sharing my thoughts!

If you have not read it, there will be spoilers! Consider this a warning.

Today we take Mr. Charles to the specialist to see what we can do about his liver. Unfortunately the little man is PISSED, because he has to fast/no water for 12 hours (started at midnight). He's been standing where his food normally is just screaming at me. Poor guy has never been so outraged in his life.

I know for a fact that when Xianle Era FX saw MQ in costume, the intrusive thoughts were definitely “I need him to rail me.”

He definitely purposely caused an argument right after, so he wouldn’t have to think about that too closely

watching Mu Qing in his sword fight with Xie Lian will only make it worse for him. He needs Mu Qing to rail him so hard and his mind will not let him forget it

Best part is they basically did get into an argument right after too. If only Xie Lian would let them fight. I think that could help Feng Xin with his new problem

hey its future me here i found this in my drafts and dragged it out by its hair

-in a modern college au, xie lian is telling shi qingxuan about his love troubles — how he's in love with his friend, but his friend has a beloved

-shsi qingxuan, connoisseur of fanfiction and #2 hualian shipper, suggests he fake-dates someone to "get over hua cheng." (in reality, to get hua cheng jealous and take matters into his own hands)

-except... it doesn't go as planned. xie lian fake dates shi qingxuan and tells feng xin and mu qing about the entire plan, who helps sell the lie. in a week, everyone knows shi qingxuan and xie lian are dating.

-hua cheng doesnt show much change at that. it perplexes literally everyone, except the oblivious xie lian. and, well, except his two lackeys (friends).

-he xuan eventually finds hua cheng in his bathroom, shakily holding a dagger to his hair. the path divets and nearly cuts the tip of his ear, had he xuan not interrupted him.

-yin yu... as his roommate, yin yu sees more. hua cheng paints his fantasies, as usual, with him and xie lian. he holds up a lighter right to the painting, burning off himself. it was as if it were some sort of therapy, or brainwashing, reminding him to stay only friends with xie lian.

-shi qingxuan, frustrated, recruits pei ming. in the face of romance, he is unusually the best at it considering how he never holds long-term relationships.

-pei ming immediately sees the faults, yet when he points it out, shi qingxuan says, "it's all in the fanfiction! watch any c-drama and it'll be the same!"

-after a month, he xuan literally can not put up with whatever shi qingxuan is pulling. he knew it was a farce, but was willing to put up with it for them. his mind quickly changed after encountering hua cheng using a weapon to cut some unpleasant part of his body off nine too many times.

-"why do you even have so many weapons?" "gege likes them." "you idiot, just give it to him then!" "gege said i should keep it because im the one who bought them."

-yin yu, likewise, cant put up with the cult-like behavior either. it was as if hua cheng had gone insane, and forcibly drained it every day doing some freaky thing. hua cheng, although adept at fire before, became scarily masterful at handling it.

-it culminates to he xuan confronting shi qingxuan, who insists to continue, and yin yu confronting xie lian, who hears the bullshit shi qingxuan told xie lian.

-"who else is in this plan of yours?" "feng xin, mu qing, and pei ming." "pei ming? what did he say about it?" "that it was a...stupid plan. but shi qingxuan said it would work perfectly!" "you didn't listen to the many-proclaimed god of romance? shi qingxuan doesnt even have a love life to go off of..."

-as if to prove a point, he xuan begins to hang out with hua cheng more. like, making a monthly meet-up into a daily meet-up. rumors spread throughout the campus, "are they dating?" and no one says anything, so it becomes widely assumed that they are.

-xie lian does not feel good. he has to follow shi qingxuan's plan, but feels jealousy ripping at him every moment he's apart from hua cheng. it's he xuan and hua cheng hanging out together, rather then xie lian and hua cheng.

-when he finally hears the rumors, he can't help it. plan be damned, shi qingxuan be damned, getting over hua cheng be damned. he finds hua cheng in the hallway, pins him to the wall and kisses him.

Feng Xin braces himself, sweaty fists clenching at his sides, and finally turns around to look at his reflection in the bathroom mirror.

He meets his own eyes for only a moment before his gaze is unavoidably dragged down to his chest. He sucks in a heavy breath as he stares, which does nothing but deepen the trance he finds himself in.

"Fuck."

Sturdy leather straps, the color of bruising love bites, press relentlessly into his warm, freckled skin; he can feel them being pulled taut with each breath he takes and the insistent pressure soothes him into a blessed calm. He feels held even without his lover's arms around him. He feels loved even without his lover's words to assure him. But—most noticeably—he feels owned in the way only his lover is allowed to make him feel.

The burgundy straps wrap from around the back of his neck and dip into a little 'v' fastened with a brass o-ring right above his clavicle. Two pieces jut out from either side of the ring to line the top of his pecs, dipping down beneath his armpits to connect to additional o-rings that fall at the sides of his ribs. These fasten around his torso with another strap and a buckle that sits right over his spine.

There's a strap that extends downward from the first ring and it follows the line of his sternum, stopping when it reaches the end of it. Another o-ring makes its home here with two straps that connect to the rings on his sides, effectively lining the bottom of his pecs and framing them perfectly.

This is a sight that renders him breathless and wanting, and the way his eyes are drawn to his hardening nipples leaves his mouth feeling inexplicably dry and wet at the same time.

He forces his gaze lower, tracing the centermost strap down to its o-ring and the final straps that bloom from it. A short piece extends downward from this ring until it hits just above his navel. A final o-ring takes its place here with straps that curl around the bottom of his ribs from either side to buckle in place along his spine.

He stares at the obscene image he makes, completely captivated.

He looks as if he was made for the harness just as much as the harness looks like it was made for him. Both things may be true, but the second one is especially so. Mu Qing painstakingly crafted the piece himself based on his own tastes, Feng Xin's carefully taken measurements, and with deep consideration for what materials and colors would suit Feng Xin. It was made with focus, with love, and with precise intention.

Feng Xin has never felt more beautiful in his life.
