Thinking about how Leo says he uses his jokes to cope and y’know, thinking harder on it I think it may very well be because of what else uses one-liners and puns and that type of humor.

Specifically, 80’s action movies and campy sci-fi. Even more specifically, the protagonists of these.

So I can imagine why, exactly, Leo leans toward this brand of humor. It’s directly linked to things he loves! But even more than that is why I think it’s used as a coping mechanism.

In these genres, these quips tend to be said by the winner - or, if not a winner, then someone who will stay alive. So there’s a confidence behind them, an assurance, almost, that even if things go wrong, things aren’t ever too serious. There’s no bad endings here! It’s all good fun, even if the stakes seem high.

Leo canonically has been known to steer his brothers away from the more brutal villains and toward more fun, lighthearted activities and not-so-dangerous criminals. So for Leo, these jokes definitely make things less heavy, make the situations they find themselves in less intense.

It’s kinda not just coping, but also can be seen as a form of escapism. A safety blanket. A way for Leo to defuse the tension of knowing just how dangerous their lives are and replace that with a levity which implies that things will be okay.

Unfortunately, levity alone does not alter reality.

HIII I like Smalletho!! But you might not be a fan of how I regard it personally haha. To be honest I'm a little bit terrified of smalletho fans because of the specimens I have encountered and heard of so please don't burn me at stake...

I primarily view it as mostly one-sided. This makes more sense if you know of my thoughts about Joel being closeted and combative/troubled at the idea of being into men. He's been weird about Jimmy for a damn long time but he's never enacted on those feelings past jokes he proclaims not to be taken seriously. And then he's put together with this Etho guy in DL, soulbound to him, and because he's all weird he develops a crush and acts more questionably around him and more impulsively in general. And I think Etho would have picked up on it but he's. Etho. His response to everything is oh snap

Etho did do a callback during SL as if he were reminiscing, and he engaged with the "neck kisses" bit and some other less egregious ones, but Joel draws much more attention to Etho and the obsession claims. In fact the neck kisses thing started with Jimmy and yet Joel attached it entirely to Etho and comments on it either to make Etho sound weird or to make a slightly more rowdy joke than usual (Joel is plenty weird with his homoerotic jokes but this one is notably more intimate in a physical sense, as opposed to emotional. Not even the babymaking in ESMP2 compares because he acted like a clown who's never heard of sex before for those). Hmm strange behavior to have chosen to do that... I think Joel's become less insane and mostly gotten over his crush but clearly still likes Etho and Etho likes him too, but in a less weird way. His regard for their relationship to me is so well exemplified by the interaction where Jimmy went "Joel called me babe earlier" to try and prod him and Etho gives the most nonchalant "oh snap" known to man in response. He loves a little tomfoolery though so he entertains the banter

Joel just imo acts so weird about him half the time and then completely deadpan the rest of the time, compared to Jimmy who he has also been really weird about but also grown more comfortable with (but only very slightly because he is a loser) in regards to his feelings. I just think contrasting them brings out my reasoning better haha. I like smalletho as a ship in general and I really like their dynamic, but Etho in more of a mentor role (not that he's teaching much of anything but the experience Joel had with him has probably helped Joel become less homophobic about himself). It's similar to what I also really like about Bdubs and Joel, where I'm not sure I really see it as a romantic dynamic but they're definitely not normal about each other by any stretch of the imagination

do you think the reason agatha’s trial felt weird is because she was the only one who did not actually buy into the mythos of the road since she knew the truth? like that was why no perspective change and all the other reasons why people thought it was a fake trial

#agatha all along #aaa spoilers #txt #i really liked the idea behind how the witches road came to be #like showing her and nicky coming up with the lyrics and everything #but i felt like there was a lot of these last two episodes that felt weird or jarring #i think that’s partly the fault of it being such a short run time for the whole show in general (tbh that’s probably like most of it)#but there were just also weird choices? idk #like jen’s big declaration about protecting them in honor of Lilia or w.e and then just.. flying off to nowhere??#or the way Both billy and agatha kept switching how they felt about each other with like every sentence #I did really like her thing where she helped him get tommy a body though #and her and rios vibes were off too. like it felt like there should have been a little more build up before they fought after the road?#like when they were still talking on the road it felt like they could have done more with it #just like jen getting her powers back could have been more #or billy standing up for agatha could have been more #billy’s homecoming and attempting to banish agatha too #I liked that his parents were there but it was so quick and then he just.. leaves again?? no problem?? and I guess they’re fine with it now #like it felt like the things they did well. they did really well #while everything else felt.. idk.. kinda flat?#which honestly was the same feeling I had after watching agatha’s trial episode #honestly this show need at least another 3 or 4 episodes if not more #and I know people are going to make this all about agatha and rio but i really don’t think that’s the issue #i do think the story could have benefited more from showing more of their actual backstory or a few more interactions with them or just #like i said earlier done more with what they had. again that scene on the road before rio dips could have been used way more effectively #and I don’t mean in like having them be soft or lovey like I know a lot of people wanted (never be against that) but I don’t think it was #needed.. but Something was??#i feel like overall what everyone went through on the road didn’t actually truly effect them or change them?#like jen left. agatha and rio were like back to liek the road never happened. everyone else but billy is dead #i think the only person who was truly changed was maybe billy?#which makes the whole journey feel so unsatisfying? like things could still have ended the same while still showing them changed? idk

Decided my proposal for a We Are Series ghostship is Beer and Kleun. They could make a very chill couple.

#they might seem boring as a concept but that is why i love the idea of them getting together #imagine with me:#we all agree beer deserves good things #through his his screentime kluen was shown to be a green flag but he had a crush on the wrong person to have a crush on #so beer and kluen meet again independent of the group similarly to the beer and peem interaction #beer makes a comment on kluen disappearing after the volunteer camp and kluen awkwardly says he joined to hit on peem and beer sympathizes #they eat together and talk about the volunteer camp further and beer comments on how jealous phum was of kluen #kluen is in disbelief phumpeem aren't together yet and beer laughs #they have a good time and exchange numbers so periodically in the show beer would be on his phone giving kluen live updates #the two resonate over having braincells and meet up for lunch more and more frequently as tan and phum are enraptured #eventually mick catches them together and jokes he feels like he is third-wheeling a date #beer and kluen both say it is not a date and mick makes a face before going back to his video games #mick is so absorbed in his video games he doesnt witness beer and kluen agree to try and go on an actual date right in front of him #cue we are series typical nonsense as the cast keeps catching beer and kluen on dates without realizing they are on a date #until beer shows up with kluen to a gathering and reintroduces him as his boyfriend #everyone is surprised they got together so quick and beer has to explain to them not every relationship is a bl #then beerkluen becomes everyones relationship counselors because they hold the sacred braincells #at some point phum asks beer how he feels about kluens former crush on peem and beer stresses it was a former crush and relatively minor #and phum realizes he was really shitty and unreasonable to kluen and apologizes and they become friends #just the ghostship of beerkluen #we are the series #we are series #beerkluen #fuck it ill make it a tag

#puppy rambles #yo-kai watch #yw3 #i mean komasan's not there in canon 3 so it's slightly better but not by a lot #i feel like someone should at least be falling off how is the raft also big enough to hold them all-#whisper floats so he doesn't add weight or any space really but like #it still needs to both hold the weight of three teenagers and two yo-kai #AND have the room for them all to fit #the rafting challenge in bada-bing tower is probably worse cuz it has to fit two additional yo-kai #i think komasan not being that important in the mainline games is very lame. he's pretty important in the anime so it's kinda weird #he is at least somewhat important in 3 since he's there for the yopple tour and everything in bada-bing tower #whereas in 1 he has the auto-befriend yo-kai curse (only being important in their debut chapter)#and in 2 he literally only shows up during the jibakoma quest in psychic specters #(excluding being an npc during the beginning of the jibanyan's secret quest alongside a bunch of other yo-kai)#idk what's weirder the fact they made him so important in the anime despite that or the fact they never made him important in the games #i personally go with the nyanderful days continuity that he also moves in with katie cuz that makes sense to me #i've literally never written anything where nate's the one who gets the watch in 1 so idk what i'd do there-#(funny how i've never written anything that's in the same timeline as canon-)#i want to at least write something at somepoint where nate and katie both get watches cuz i like that idea #i mean i have a dumb au idea where nate and katie independently get watches at the start of 1 at around the same time #and take an extended period of time to realize #mostly just haven't actualized that cuz 1) i already have the rewrite and 2) i don't have enough ideas #basically just have the basic concept-#these tags got derailed quick. and also make me really wanna work on the rewrite more-#i have so many ideas but i'm just not motivated to write any of them #and also most of them are for 3 and i haven't finished rewriting 2 yet 😔#‚‚‚ anyways-

i got the kind of autism where I make theme songs and leitmotifs for my characters that I haven’t written anything about but have a complete fuzzy image of in my head

#online synthesizer my beloved #I have a couple for characters and I’m trying to figure out these two brothers rn (Campbell and Carnegie)#(their names are because I thought they sounded cool but weird enough to be considered stupid by other characters and in the vein #of rvb style humor they get bullied for this. Campbell especially cus he’s the younger brother with a cooler older brother)#so now I’m working on a theme that’s kind of supposed to be them coming together and working really well as a team or pair #but they still have their own little leitmotif moments that are somewhat combative or jarring with eachother to show #that while they work very harmoniously together in song and via characters #they’re still very different people and there is still tension between them #cus they’re both kinda showboaty and dicks about it but it just presents in different ways #so Campbell is reprimanded for it and gets pushback socially where Carnegie is rewarded for it #just because the behavior manifests differently #god I have sooo many thoughts about the Bennett twins (technically not twins I just call them that) you have no idea (my guys)#they’re kind of inspired by the potential in the relationship that north and south could have had #with north being the good one and south being the bad one #while they both have problems #in the Bennetts case it’s the same problem #it’s just rewarded by militaristic higher ups very differently based on skill #so yes #they’re both arrogant insecure assholes who think very highly of themselves and are quick to frustration #and are often very sensitive to outside opinions and words rather than literal meaning or action #but Campbell turns softer and much more emotionally volatile form how he gets socially rebuffed for it especially because he’s not #a great soldier #and his perfect older brother Carnegie gets all the privilege and trust because he’s seen as ruthless and ambitious and skilled when #hes just as if not visibly more petty than Campbell is #god they run circles in my head at night
