Hello everyone, happy Friday to you all! I’m off work now until Wednesday so that’s the perfect excuse to hopefully get a lot of reading done. Here’s three new beautiful hardbacks I’ve added to my TBR. I’ve only read one Kate Atkinson book before (currently re-reading Life After Life) but am determined to catch up on all her books. This is her latest release and I’m planning to buddy read it with @emmasbookishcorner at some point! Set in the Roaring Twenties in London in a country still recovering from the Great War, London is the focus for a delirious nightlife. In Soho clubs, peers of the realm rub shoulders with starlets, foreign dignitaries with gangsters and girls sell dances for a shilling a time. Nellie Coker is a ruthless ruler, ambitious for her six children. But success breeds enemies. Beneath the gaiety lies a dark underbelly, where one may be all too easily lost. Confession time - the middle book was a total cover/title buy. I #kellvery little about it before I decided I had to have it. Luckily the synopsis was just as good as I had hoped. In an alternate world, We learn about a Mass Dragoning in 1955 where 300,000 women spontaneously transform into dragons…and change the world. Finally, I was eager to get my hands on Demon Copperhead as soon as I heard it was being released. It has been described as a once in a generation novel that breaks and mends your heart in the way only the best fiction can. A boy is born during a traumatic birth to his single mother in a single-wide trailer looking like “a little blue prizefighter.” Raised in poverty and growing up in the middle of the modern opioid crisis, Demon is born on the wrong side of luck, the affection and safety he craves is as remote as the ocean he dreams of seeing one day. The wonder is how far he’s willing to travel in order to get there. I’m also planning on buddy reading this with @emmasbookishcorner I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors. Let’s have a chat in the comments! #bookstagramuk #scottishbookstagrammer #morebookslessproblems #shrinesofgaiety #kateatkinson #whenwomenweredragons #kellybarnhill #demoncopperhead #barbarakingsolver #booksicantwaittoread https://www.instagram.com/p/CmhLQgwrk1Y/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Does your child have a favorite author? My daughter may only be 3, but she will gladly tell you that one of her favorite authors is Karma Wilson (@karmawilsonbooks) We were so excited to get a copy of her latest book “A Dog Named Doug” to review for @simonandschuster 📖 (Keep an eye on the blog for a review and activities in the near-ish future!) When I told her about it, she said, “She must know that I love dogs and that’s why she sent it to me”. 🐶 She was so excited that our bedtime choices for the night were “only Karma Wilson books!” 😂 I love that she already understands what an author and illustrator do and already has her own favorites. 😍 Who are the favorites for your family? Share below! #kidsbooks #booksforkids #kidsbookstagram #favoriteauthor #karmawilson #karmawilsonbooks #favoritebooks #picturebooks #newbooks #bookmail #booksicantwaittoread — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/2vLTnbs

Hello everyone and happy Friday to you all. We’ve made it to the end of the week and here’s a book haul to celebrate! I’ve been intrigued by The Five Wounds ever since I saw it in hardback but I made myself wait until it came out in paperback! 😂 It’s Holy Week in the town of Las Penas, New Mexico, and 33 year old unemployed Amadillo Padea is to play Jesus in the Good Friday procession. He is preparing feverishly for this role when his 15 year old daughter Angel shows up pregnant on his doorstep. Vivid, darkly funny and beautifully rendered, the author brings to life the struggles of her characters to parent children they might not be able to save. I’ve been loving the #greatthomashardyreadalong2022 this year and this is one of the Hardy books I’m looking forward to getting to. Two On A Tower is a tale of star-crossed love where the emotional lives of Hardy’s two lovers is set against the background of the stellar universe. This is Hardy’s most complete treatment of the theme of love across the class and age divide and the fullest expression of his fascination with science and astronomy. Finally, What Strange Paradise - this beautifully written, unrelentingly dramatic and profoundly moving novel looks at the global refugee crisis through the eyes of a child. This is the story of two children finding their way through a hostile world. It is also a tale of empathy and indifference, of hope and despair and about the way each of those things can blind us to reality. I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors. Let’s have a chat in the comments! #bookstagram #scottishbookstagrammer #bookhaul #yesitsmorebooks #newbookspls #thefivewounds #kirstinvaldezquade #twoonatower #thomashardy #hardyfangirl #whatstrangeparadise #omarelakkad #morebooksthantime #morebookscoming #booksonthetbr #booksicantwaittoread https://www.instagram.com/p/Ci3EGm5rGll/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Morning from the UK everyone and a happy Monday to you all! It’s time for another book haul 😜 Love Orange is the debut novel from Natasha Randall which exposes the seam of secrets within an American family. It reveals a family facing up to the modern age with the ascendancy of technology, the predicaments of masculinity, the pathologising of children, the epidemic of opioid addiction and the tyranny of the WhatsApp gods. I was also instantly intrigued by O Caledonia, a novel which traces the chain of events that in the dour setting of the 1940’s and 50’s cause the bizarre death of a young girl. Finally, we have Dead Relatives, a short story collection which has themes of motherhood and the fragile body, family dynamics and small town tensions, unusual traditions and metamorphosis. Not for the faint-hearted, Dead Relatives takes you behind closed doors and will leave you wondering if they are kept shut and fully locked. #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookworm #bookhoarder #bookhaul #bookheaven #paperbackbooks #paperbackbeauties #loveorange #natasharandall #ocaledonia #elspethbarker #deadrelatives #luciemcknighthardy #booksicantwaittoread https://www.instagram.com/p/CWknDQeAXER/?utm_medium=tumblr

Hello everyone and happy Friday to you all! Hope you’ve had a great week. I’m here with another book haul, letting you know about three new hardbacks I’m excited to get to. His Only Wife had such an eye-catching front cover I had to pick it up. It follows a young seamstress called Afi who lives in Ghana with her widowed mother. She receives an offer of marriage from a wealthy family but it turns out her new husband, Elikem is not quite the catch he originally seems to be. Period. It’s About Bloody Time is a nonfiction book that I’ve heard great things about. It does what it says on the tin and as a woman who has had trouble with my periods, I look forward to reading more about it and breaking the taboo about this very normal part of life. Finally, Sentient: What Animals Reveal About Our Senses is another nonfiction book I couldn’t resist. It assembles a menagerie of zoological creatures from land, air, sea and all four corners of the globe to understand what it means to be human. As a huge animal lover, I can’t wait to dive into this one. #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookheaven #bookhaul #beautifulbooks #beautifulhardbacks #hisonlywife #peaceadzomedie #perioditsaboutbloodytime #emmabarnett #sentientwhatanimaisrevealaboutoursenses #jackiehiggins #nonfiction #booksicantwaittoread https://www.instagram.com/p/CVV3dxjgXkT/?utm_medium=tumblr

Hello everyone and hope your Monday has got off to a great start! It’s time for a book haul. 😁 Why Visit America has been on my radar for a little while. This is a short story collection where each story covers a different genre i.e. fantasy, horror, western, dystopian, rom com, erotica and a noir detective mystery. Read together, they form a portrait of the USA and a Through The Looking Glass reflection of the country. I adore Sarah Moss’ writing and am gradually making her way through her back catalogue. Ghost Wall was the next on the list. It urges us to explore just how far we have come compared to the “primitive” minds of our ancestors. Finally, Blonde Roots by Bernardine Evaristo is another author that I’ve recently discovered and am desperate to read more of. This book follows Doris from England who is playing hide and seek with her friends then a bag is put over her head and she finds herself on a slave ship on the way to the New World. The author presents an inversion of the transatlantic slave trade where the “whytes,” are enslaved by black people. I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors. Let’s have a chat in the comments! Have a great week everyone 🤗😘 #bookstagram #bookheaven #bookhaul #paperbackhaul #newbooksplease #whyvisitamerica #matthewbaker #shortstoriescollection #ghostwall #sarahmoss #novella #blonderoots #bernardineevaristo #booksicantwaittoread #womensprizeforfiction https://www.instagram.com/p/CU5ZBuqAdCX/?utm_medium=tumblr

Hello everyone and hope you’ve had a great week. Today it’s book haul time again! You’d think I’d be coming to the end of hauls to share but there are plenty more to come. Anyone surprised?! 😂 Even though I’ve never read any Elena Ferrante before, I’m looking forward to The Lying Life Of Adults and am planning to read it with the gorgeous @emmasbookishcorner This story follows Giovanna in her transition from childhood through adolescence to adulthood. This Poison Heart is the young adult follow up to Cinderella Is Dead (which I STILL haven’t read 😂) It’s a completely separate story though and the first book in a new contemporary fantasy series which follows a young woman who has extraordinary powers with plants. Finally, Tsarina looks to be a gorgeous historical novel about a young woman in Russia in 1699 called Marta who is illegitimate, destitute and sold into labour at 15 years old. She catches the eye of Peter the Great and this is her story of the journey to become Catherine I of Russia. This however comes at a steep price and involves the destiny of Russia as an empire. I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors. Time for a Friday book haul! I’ve ended my Friday in bed unfortunately after a busy week. Ah the joys of chronic illness 🙄 it won’t stop me from sharing my Friday book haul with you though! After The Silence is the latest book from an author I really admire. I’m a bit behind on her books but hope to get caught up soon. I really enjoyed the short story collection Diving Belles by Lucy Wood so when I saw this ex library copy on sale for a bargain price of £1, I couldn’t resist it. Finally, it seemed like everyone was talking about Mexican Gothic last year and I’m ready to buy into that hype!! I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors. Let’s have a chat in the comments! Have a great weekend everyone 🤗😘 #bookstagram #bookhoarder #bookhaul #paperbackhaul #paperbackhappiness #afterthesilence #louiseoneill #weathering #lucywood #mexicangothic #silviamorenogarcia #booksicantwaittoread #tbrpile #neededthesebooks #ispendallmymoneyonbooks https://www.instagram.com/p/CRrmidhLDWL/?utm_medium=tumblr

Monday is book haul day!! Loving my new bunch of paperbacks and very excited to get to all of them. I’ve heard wonderful things about Swimming In The Dark and The Mermaid Of Black Conch just won the overall Costa book prize so that’s acclaim enough for me! Finally, I’ve had my eye on Everything Under for a little while. I’ll probably head to Sisters first but happy to have this on my backlist. Plus I know it’s really shallow, but that cover is just gorgeous! If you’ve read or want to read any of these books, I’d love to know. If not, I’d love to know if a pretty cover makes you a magpie like myself or do you care more about what’s inside? #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #booklover #booklove #bookworm #tbrpile #newbooks #paperbackheaven #bookhaul #everythingunder #daisyjohnson #themermaidofblackconch #moniqueroffey #swimminginthedark #tomaszjedrowski #booksicantwaittoread #iregretnothing #booksaremyfriends https://www.instagram.com/p/CL4y4xTgcgG/?igshid=keyvgj5l74ml

Well I feel thoroughly spoilt. Last night Quercus has their Word Of Mouth Bestsellers evening virtually and it was incredible. I’ve gone to two IRL before and always had a lovely time but it was fantastic to see all the authors and talks from the comfort of my own home. This is the amazing goodie box that I was sent that includes chocolate, postcards, bookmarks, a face mask, badges, a notebook and three beautiful proofs of exciting novels coming out next year. Check out my current stories to see the talks I went to (will try to put them as a highlight too). I think it’s safe to say that I’m excited about every single book that was discussed! It’s going to be a brilliant year of reading ahead, I can already feel it. 😁 Thank you so much to @quercusbooks and @thetandemcollective for inviting me and for this generous package. I can’t wait to let you know what I think of the books! #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #booklover #booknerd #bookevent #quercus2021 #thefinalrevivalofopalandnev #dawniewalton #madam #phoebewynne #theprophets #robertjonesjr #booksicantwaittoread #whataluckygirl https://www.instagram.com/p/CGp4XKSgnMM/?igshid=1dr98nmlusbh6

Hello everyone and hope you’re well. I’m back from my holiday and looking forward to catching up with everything you’ve been up to. This #stacksaturday I’m revealing five books on my TBR this month chosen for me by my sister @chrissireads one from each bookshelf. I did this challenge back in April when Mr B picked five books from my shelves that I HAD to read that month and once again, I’m looking forward to reading more backlist books rather than reading for the new shiny ones like a magpie! 😂 They Both Die At The End by Adam Silvera Bad Romance by Heather Demetrios Just My Type by Simon Garfield You by Caroline Kepnes After You by Jojo Moyes I think Chrissi has done brilliantly in picking me a TBR. Some of these books she’s been on at me to read for ages 🤣 and others she was drawn to. I can’t wait to get started! As always, I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors. Hello everyone! Today has been a bit of a DAY 😒 and I was going to have a review for you but currently my brain won’t allow it so I’m doing a book haul post which was meant to be tomorrow’s post! I can’t even tell you how excited I am to get to all three of these hardbacks. I love Jon McGregor’s writing so much 😍 and went to a talk recently where he was talking about this recent release to Jarvis Cocker. It was excellent. After the sublime The Doll Factory, buying Elizabeth Macneal’s latest novel was also a no-brainer. I’ve also heard wonderful things about Libertie and as it’s an author I’ve never read before, I’m intrigued to give her a shot. As always, I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors.
