the way that jonathan stroud wrote lucy and lockwood as characters that directly parallel each other in everything!!! she Listens and he Sees. he’s the title character and she’s the narrator. she has this great power and he wants to build a great agency. when apart she’s just as reckless as he is. even down to their likes and dislikes: she hates orange juice pulp and he loves it if only to pretend he’s a whale. she leaves to protect him and he comes back to protect her. she wants to communicate with ghosts and he wants to fight them. they have matching white streaks!!!! they are the most alike and the most different and that is why they work. literally no one has ever created such a compelling relationship with such compelling characters!!!!
#and for a MIDDLE SCHOOL GRADE book series no less!!!!!!#i mean it when i say they are the natural successors to percabeth#cause WHO else is doing it like them??? NO ONE#lockwood and co#anthony lockwood#lucy carlyle#locklyle#text#userevaz#book: lockwood and co#otp: just an associate

still absolutely losing my mind at lockwood in the creeping shadow when george asks “do you remember what we found in the tunnels” and lockwood, with a big ass grin thinking he’s being so clever goes “i found lucy :D”

Do you ever think about how Lucy not only left, she left right before/at the start of The Black Winter. More importantly, they don't have cell phones in timeline/The Problem UK.
Lockwood couldn't just call her or text to check in on her. There was no email. She left, making it clear she didn't want contact, and gave no address. For the entire BLACK WINTER- AKA the extreme height of ghost activity for the entire duration of the Problem. And she left to pursue her dangerous experiments with befriending ghosts that had already almost gotten her and others killed multiple times that year.
He had no idea where she was. If she was alive. All he had were newspaper obituaries.
When you look at it that way, it makes utter sense how unhinged he became when she was gone. How desperate and bereft he was. Every single person he has ever loved (apart from George, who almost does later) has died. And once he finally met someone strong enough to keep up with him, she left to dive headlong into the most danger that has literally ever existed.
No wonder he became an insane depressed feral nightmare boy. Wouldn't you?

there’s actually something so personal about how bc the books are from lucy’s pov it’s very easy to tell how she feels about lockwood vs the show giving us lockwood’s perspective and making it very easy to tell how he feels about lucy
#cause like. homegirl is down BAD in the books#but bc it’s her first person pov it’s harder to tell just how down bad lockwood is#but since the show is obviously from an objective angle it’s SO EASY to tell how down BAD lockwood is for lucy#(also v excited to see this phenomenon happen with pjo too)#lockwood and co#lucy carlyle#anthony lockwood#locklyle#lucy x lockwood#text#userevaz#tv: lockwood and co#book: lockwood and co#otp: just an associate

so i just got to watch some of the Lockwood & Co. show and the funniest difference between book and screen to me is when Lucy first speaks with the skull. Like, in the show, the skull says her name and she just passes out. But in the books, it gets all mysterious with saying things like "life is in deth and death is in life, and everything that was fixed now is fluid" and Lucy side-eyes it and just says "goodbye" before grabbing her doughnuts and leaving it behind.
