In 2021, a dead fin whale washed up on a beach in Monterey Bay, giving us the unique opportunity to collect one of its back bones for display in the Into the Deep/En lo Profundo exhibit at the Aquarium. 

Before its debut, MBARI helped us sink it in the deep sea to “marinate”. Three years later, we returned to retrieve the whale bone, freshly colonized in Osedax bone-eating worms!

I love talking to rabbis as a recent conversion student because the interaction goes something like, "you're converting? Now?! At this time, at this moment in history?!". And they always talk about this influx of jewish convert students they've seen recently, and it's like...

There's this level of respect I get from rabbis for converting at this point in time, but... Has there ever been a good time to be a jew in the last thousand years or so plus? I'm imagining that rabbis and jews in general back in 1492, back in 1290, back in 1349 would have said the exact same thing. So, really, there is only a time to be a jew. Maybe it's not a "good" time, yes, but it is a time. And to me, that's good enough

Danny gets outed/reveals/something and everybody knows he's Phantom. There are science organizations that are absolutely *frothing* at the mouth to hire him.

He gets hired to modify and then deploy hurricane and tornado reading equipment because he's able to fly into the center unharmed. There is much less margin or error because he's always able to get the equipment deployed if the weather is still happening.

Maybe it's a side job while he's in school for his BA or something

It’s okay to trust people, even public figures, and feel betrayed and hurt when they turn out to be pieces of shit.

I guarantee you that, known or unknown, there are people that you know right now who are also horrible and you’ll have no way of knowing, until you do, and it’s an awful feeling and it’s not your fault.

However, and this is key, with knowledge comes responsibility, and it IS your job to do the hard thing and believe victims, stick to your guns, protect the vulnerable, and withdraw your support from the powerful.

This is difficult. Structures of power don’t want you to do this. Instinctively, YOU don’t want to do this. Humans pack-bonding means you want to stand with the powerful, follow the group, not expose yourself.

But you MUST. If not you, who? All we have is each other and the vulnerable need you and your voice and your support.

Fuck Neil Gaiman. Fuck Johnny Depp. Fuck any and all powerful men with powerful friends.

Meet the extraordinary bone-eating worms: no eyes, no legs, no mouth, no stomach—no problem!

These deep-sea tube-dwellers have mastered the art of feasting on the bones of sunken whale carcasses. They secrete acid that dissolves the bone, while symbiotic bacteria aid in digesting the organic material, providing a unique food source for these fascinating creatures.

Our partners @mbari_news discovered these incredible worms more than two decades ago, and with their help, we��ve been able to bring them to our Into the Deep/En lo Profundo exhibit.

i got inspired by @meowmeowmeowmeow4x's lovely fic, Dark Blue Moon and the Suffering Sun! I don't think my depiction of danny is completely accurate to the story, but i looooved the description of his transparent skin with visible bones and organs and wanted to give it a shot!
