i just typed in something like "why do humans sleep when it is raining" and google changed my question to "why do WE sleep when it is raining"

made me feel like a cosmic alien of some sort, researching humans and their behavioural patterns

Giving up with a small sigh, Romeo shifted around until he could crawl under the covers next to him. It was still a long time before he felt like asking again.

"When you...made me see things," he said lamely. He didn't bother asking how, or, rather, how Taiga had known he could even do that. Sure, some ghouls could share their stigmas with others, but it wasn't an exact science and didn't always make sense. "I keep seeing it. Them. All of it." He couldn't close his eyes without that spinning feeling, wanting to shut it out and watch every scene through to the end at the same time.

Romeo doesn't bother knocking on Taiga's door anymore. Nine times out of ten he doesn't even hear it, anyway. So it's 4a.m. and he lets himself in and sits on the edge of the bed.

He's been thinking. Well, 'thinking' is putting it flavorlessly. He's been...remembering. And seeing. And his brain feels like it's been tumbling through the universe, or maybe left in the dryer too long.

He's thinking back to their mission earlier, when the anomaly kept fucking teleporting back and forth, and he couldn't fucking hit it because he couldn't predict where it was going to go, and he was getting agitated because he only had one round left. And he's thinking about how Taiga sidled up behind him like a big, lazy cat, left hand holding him steady by the hip, right hand sliding along his arm to his hand, and neatly slipped two fingers under his glove and over the back of his hand.

And how he whispered "Malab" into Romeo's ear, and something changed. Because then he could see where the fucking sightless blur of too-many-limbs-with-too-many-joints was going to be next, and where it would be after that, and where it would be if he didn't shoot it, and what would have happened if he blew it up five minutes ago instead, and he ended up missing the shot anyway because he couldn't make sense of it all, and, and, and-

And now he's sitting on the edge of a sleeping Taiga's bed, not fully remembering how he got there.

Despite what most might believe Taiga was actually quite a light sleeper, or could be, though only if needed, like a guard dog always keeping one ear perked up.

Lulu was safe, he'd always been safe, Taiga has never been alarmed by his presence. Yet there was still a weird inkling, like a sixth sense alerting him to Romeo being near.

So this was what had Taiga blindly pawing at the sheets, searching for Romeo, not quite awake but not fully asleep anymore either. Once he'd caught the edge of Romeo's sleeve between his fingers he relaxed, releasing a small sleepy sigh and mumbled out a barely audible 'Lulu.' as he gave the sleeve the tiniest tug, urging him to come closer.

Hello I am living 20ish hours on 1< hour of sleep, certain I am going off kilter (a little) . BUT ANYWAY, on the topic of sleep here's what the amount of sleep I sacrificed for you means

1 minute: FUCKING PATHETIC. I have sacrificed more for homework. You mean literally fucking nothing to me.

An hour: Okayy we're getting somewhere. Either I kinda care about you or I care about you even more and had to go to sleep, but definitely was willing to sacrifice more for you. You're either my friend or I love you.

A few hours: This is getting a little unrealistic. Either you're homework or social media. Or you're my absolute best friend in the whole world, we're talking like, top 5 people here. Or I'm at a concert, that has happened before.

Most of the night: Inhumane. You are a good book, or maybe a revolutionary edit idea I'm working on. I would NEVER give up that much time for any sentient being. Dream on, literally. Leave me to my own nightly activities.

An all nighter: No way. There's only one possible answer and it's that you are my significant other (or really best friend, that too).

because  he  doesn't  sleep,  he's  found  himself  standing  at  the  window.  (  the  book  he  was  reading  rests  discarded  atop  untouched  bedding;  he's  lost  interest.  )  it's  beginning  to  SNOW  outside  —  what  may  very  well  be  the  first  of  this  winter  season.  the  flakes  are  thick  and  swirl  together  in  the  wind;  visibility  is  dangerously  low  —  he  couldn't  fly  in  this  even  if  he  wanted  to.  the  ground  below  is  already  accumulating  a  thick  layer  of  slush,  reducing  any  hopes  of  travel  to  mere  FANTASY.  idly,  ren  can't  help  but  think  it's  strange  how  something  so  terrifying,  so  inconvenient,  so  deadly  can  also  be  viewed  as  such  a  beautiful  thing ...  and  he  supposes  there's  a  metaphor  to  be  unearthed  amid  that  errant  thought  —  the  eyes  of  his  own  reflection  seemingly  bore  into  his  face  in  wordless  accusation.  (  is  he  the  snow  or  the  rain?  he  finds  himself  asking  that  question  often.  )  the  wanderer  exhales  slowly  and  doesn't  miss  how  his  breath  neither  shows  in  the  air  nor  fogs  the  glass. he is as cold and unliving as the ice outside.

the  voice  at  the  door  acts  as  something  of  a  welcome  reprieve  from  his  thoughts.  as  much  as  ren  thinks  he  would  benefit  from  a  little  SELF-REFLECTION,  his  mind  is  a  terrible  thing  to  be  left  alone  with.

in  lieu  of  a  verbal  response,  he  slides  the  door  open  —  eyes  shining  eerily  bright  in  the  darkened  room.  for  a  moment,  he  merely  stares.  it  feels  a  bit  too  quiet  —  only  the  faint  sound  of  the  wind  whistling  outside  serves  to  break  the  SILENCE.  the  wanderer  then  cants  his  head,  offering  his  doppelganger  a  quizzical  blink.  ❝  ...  was  there  something  you  needed?  ❞   he  finally  asks.  obviously  he's  awake.  the  true  question  is  why  kunihide  is  as  well.
