don't get me wrong, i know scars are proof of healing and all that, but i still wish, sometimes, that when i see suggestive art/photos, especially in queer spaces, that i'd see folks with similar kinds of scarring to myself. not just the generic 'little white scratch somewhere'. not fetishised self-harm. just someone else who has stupidly, inexorably, taken out bits of their own skin, and seen them grow back darker, redder, with wrong textures and wrong shapes. little indentations and swathes of pockmarks.
like, one of the worst parts of dermatillomania is feeling completely untouchable because of some of the scars, especially on my lower abdomen and chest. (and also on the legs.) like, it'd be nice to see some kind of proof that scars – even these ugly, inexplicable ones – don't make us repulsive. i feel huge guilt for whoever i date in future who's gonna have to come face-to-face with the stupid things i've done to myself over the years. so it'd be nice to see something – especially in queer spaces, which often reject beauty norms anyway – that makes it possible for me not to feel so, so afraid of how my own skin's gonna look to someone else someday.
tl;dr i don't wanna feel like i'm only ever gonna be able to have a relationship if i keep everything south of the collar and north of the knees strictly hidden. i don't wanna feel like my ability to be perceived as decent-looking will expire if i bare any skin
#like i'm aspec and this still gets to me so much#vent post#but also kinda important#like. i've never seen anyone with excoriation scars called pretty in media#and it'd be nice to be able to forget (for just one minute) how bad it looks#if y'all can accept other types of scarring. please. accept this too.#dermatillomania#excoriation disorder#skin picking#bfrbs#body focussed repetitive behaviours#body focused repetitive behaviors

Auror Special Force AU
💠 Mission: Handling punishment for disobeying well (failed)
Is this already angst? I don't know. 😅
Normally, she was good at judging how far she could go with Sebastian. Over the last few months, she had learnt to interpret his facial expressions, to read when the point had been reached where he felt compelled to make it clear that he was still her superior. And even when she overstepped that point, her punishments usually involved simple cleaning duties. Something she hated and was therefore worthy of beeing called a punishment, but still showed that he never took her pranks and shenanigans too serious.
This time, however, she realised it was different the moment he sent the other troop members out of the gym, his anger blatant in the way he looked at her and in the shaky stiffness of his body.
"I'm really sorry, sir."
"We're only at seven push-ups. I said ten."
At the sound of his voice, she bit her lip to hold back her burgeoning tears. The burning in her muscles was a welcome distraction as she inwardly berated herself for being too sensitive. When she finally stood back up, her throat burned, and she kept her gaze lowered.
"From now on, I don't want to hear any more backtalk. No more pushing boundaries and no more fucking playing with my good nature. Do you understand?"
"Sir, I would never take advantage of your good nature, I..."
"Did you understand my words, recruit?"
"Yes, sir," her voice broke, and if she had looked up at that moment, she could have seen a flash of painful regret in Sebastian's eyes. An emotion that made him even angrier.
And so she was left with only the sound of his voice, filled with fury, echoing in her ears: "20 press-ups followed by a stretch, now!"
She started the exercise obediently, and it took Sebastian a while to realise that it wasn't drops of sweat that were dripping onto the floor at regular intervals.
"MC..." he took a step towards her, but then held back, "there's no need to cry when a lieutenant rebukes a recruit's behaviour."
Without replying, she continued to do her duty, trying desperately not to sob, which was becoming harder with each repetition.
"OK, alright, that's enough..." he grabbed her shoulder and stopped her from continuing.
"I have to do at least five more, sir," she focussed on the ground beneath her feet with a shaky voice.
"I said it's enough," gently taking her chin in his hand, he lifted her head, his eyes searching hers.
"You forgot to count again, recruit?"
With a quivering lower lip, she nodded, still trying to stop the tears.
"I just don't understand why you're crying. We both know I've inflicted far worse punishments on you."
"But you were never this angry with me then."
Confused, Sebastian's eyes narrowed, only to widen after a moment as he seemed to slowly realise. He pulled her head towards him, resting his forehead against hers, only to take a step back and run his fingers through his hair.
"You're dismissed for the day," he murmured before storming out of the room, leaving her alone.

Do you have any chronic pain/illness fanfiction?
Hey Nonny!
I DO! I made a list awhile ago! Any Chronic Pain fics I have are on this Chronic Illness Mini Masterpost, plus these other ones on my MFL list with the tag:
The Joys Of Onanism by KittieHill (E, 5,102 w., 1 Ch. || PWP, For Science, Patient John, Overwhelmed Sherlock, Mutual Masturbation, Friends to Lovers, Kissing, Virgin Sherlock, Loving John, Intense / Multiple Orgasms) – “The man was almost seventy! He had chronic heart disease. He could have had a heart attack whilst having a shit!” John scoffed. “It's no worse for you than a brisk walk.” “Prove it,” Sherlock insisted, eyes focussed entirely on John. “Prove what?” John asked. “That I won't die from wanking?” “No – That – must you be so crude?” Sherlock complained. “That an edged masturbation session is no worse than brisk walking. Prove it.” “And how do you expect me to do that?” John frowned, picking up his water and drinking it again.
A Chronic Condition by Calais_Reno (T, 5,238 w., 1 Ch. || S1 Fix It, Falling in Love, Deception, Love Confessions, Jealousy, Fluffy, Chronic Illness, Hypochondria, Medical Procedures, Doctor John, POV Limited Third Person Sherlock, Fluff and Humour) – John is not unique. Most of the time he says and does ordinary things, but occasionally he says or does something so brilliant that it takes the air right out of Sherlock’s lungs. It’s that one percent— his little contributions at crime scenes— that’s what’s brilliant. OR: Sherlock is jealous. Part 21 of Just Johnlock
Positive by whitchry9 (T, 19,673 w., 32 Ch. || Chronic Illness, HIV/AIDS, Hurt/Comfort, Disease, Friendship) – When John finds out Sherlock is ill, he has to make sure. Really, absolutely sure. And for a while, it's okay, because medicine has advanced to the point where Sherlock isn't going to die any time soon. But when Sherlock takes a sharp downward turn, he asks John to do one last thing for him.
What Spring Does With Cherry Trees by tomlinsoul (E, 30,443 w., 3 Ch. || Canon Divergence AU || Post-TRF, Established Relationship, Fibromyalgia, Physical Disability, Mobility Aids, Ableism, Medical Trauma, Medical Procedures, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Angst, Fluff, Crying, Hospitals, Protective John, Dom/Sub Undertones, Chronic Pain, Hurt / Vulnerable Sherlock) – 18 months into his new and settled romance with John, Sherlock faces a new challenge when he develops debilitating symptoms that leave him in more than a few tricky situations. Luckily, his doctor happens to be rather devoted to him.
The Half-Life Of Morphine Series by VanStock1992 (T to E, 74,612+ w. across 8 works || Series WiP || Post S4, PTSD, Sherlock Whump, Chronic Pain / Illness, Permanent Injury, Protective Mycroft, Parentlock, Big Brother Mycroft, Doctor John, Physical Disability, Wheelchairs, John's Anger Issues, Depression, Guilt, Implied / Referenced Drug Abuse, Hospitalization, Surgery, Food Issues) – An injury that leads to nerve damage brings John and Sherlock's lives to a screeching halt, and leaning on their family and friends is the only way they will make it through. In which Sherlock is an incredibly engaged father, Rosie has special needs, and John struggles to find his place without the identity of a blogger, a doctor, or a solider.
0.2% by Xenay (T, 136,214 w., 90 Ch. || Post S4, POTS / Sick Fic, Chronic Illness / Autoimmune Disease, Exercise Intolerance, Implied / Referenced Drug Use, Autistic Sherlock, Neurodiversity, Headaches / Migraines, Neuropathy, Nausea / Vomiting, Angst, Dissociation, Medical Gaslighting, Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviour, Smoking, Aphasia, Minor Character Death, Stim Toys, Family Drama) – You don't know devastation until you get diagnosed with something that has no cure.

Feel free too add more, my friends!

Most of us in the current climate are ONLY focussed on our Physical Bodies - which is also not bad, considering we did not acknowledge its health consciously until a decade ago.
Think of these bodies stacked one over the other and what you see in physical is just 1/4 th of your existence. Your auric field extends almost 10metres from your physical body.
Physical body is only a reflection of the health of your 3 other bodies. When your other bodies of existence are balanced, namely, the spiritual, mental, emotional, you will be reflecting that through your physical health, Conscious actions and sustainable decision making. Our nervous system can get highly unregulated when other bodies seep its pain through. This is also the house of inherited diseases or fears from our ancestors. Breathwork, mindfulness, yoga are some of the ways through which we can work with our nervous system along with exercise, movement, dance, a rich , NOURISHING diet.
Your Emotional Body is where your emotions get trapped through life experiences when they are not processed, resolved or healed. A lot of inner work like inner child + shadow work can help you heal this. And This also is why a therapy like EFT (emotional freedom tapping) can seep deeper to treat physical pain in your body.
Your mental body is where your thoughts, your belief systems and your awareness lies. When mental body does not work in harmony with the other bodies, we can inflict self sabotaging behaviours or even manifest them into our reality. This is where Reprogramming work comes into - hypnosis, reframing childhood beliefs, tapping, affirmations, REPETITION, gratitude etc.
Your spiritual body is where your soul contracts, your intuitive gifts, soul lessons, your karma resides. This is where a lot of past life healing also occurs. Deep meditation, light language, energy work, chakra healing can access this space and heal the blocks, fears, trauma we might have picked from these lifetimes. Spiritual body can get traumatized even by events of this lifetime if the trauma was too deep.

Hey, I have trichotillomania (hair pulling issues) and I’m not an expert on how to stop but I do the same thing with one hand being occupied writing etc and the other will wander off and pull/fiddle with an eyebrow. I’d definitely give some kind of fiddle thing a go to keep the other hand occupied, and for me it tends to correlate with stress so keep an eye on your stress levels (easier said than done I know). You’ve probably come across this but terms you might find useful to look up are BFRB (body-focussed repetitive behaviour, an umbrella term for these things) and dermotillomania (the term for skin picking). Hope you find something that helps, it sucks to be experiencing it <3
yeeee i wouldnt say im stressed but my anxiety is pretty bad. idk if that makes sense but to me theyre different ?? they might not actually be lol but yeah i probably wouldnt be doing this if i wasnt vibrating with anxiety constantly . ok so fidget toy for sure lol i was hoping there was a way i could muscle thru this but all the feedback ive gotten so far says fidget thing. a mutual suggested a kneaded eraser which i have tons of so ill bring one to the office tomorrow !
thank you for the input <33 kiss kiss

My Mental Health
I will start off by saying this: please keep in mind that I am not yet diagnosed regarding my mental health. I do have background (schooling) that informs me regarding certain patterns in my behaviour or my perceptions, but I dont claim to be equipped to diagnose myself or others.
I started to think there was something really wrong after I started college, around November 2015. I think I havent been entirely “normal” for most of my life, but things became very apparent around this particular time. I started to experience episodes of what could be depression (again, Im not yet diagnosed so I cant really say for certain that they are depressive episodes). Small emotional matters would hit me much harder than I know they should have: I remember times of hardcore crying, practically weeping, for extended periods of time, extreme thoughts of guilt, self-isolating behaviours. These episodes were extremely physically draining. I also started to notice that I frequently would feel hopeless, socializing was taxing, sleep was evasive, and motivation to do even enjoyable things was low. Since then Ive had seasons where these symptoms havent been so bad... more like an undercurrent, manageable. But there have been seasons that have hit me very hard.
I think I have always been sensitive and overly anxious. I worry quite often, too much. I ruminate even more so; I think about the past for what I could have done differently, I think about the present for all the things I could be doing, and I think about the future and too often get stuck in a cycle of what ifs and unrealistic expectations. I play out whole scenarios with people in my head, sometimes upsetting myself with the outcome of those hypotheticals. At times I hold myself to a very high standard. I feel stress very acutely. There are times even when I feel a sense of urgency or restlessness for no apparent reason. Im just on edge and honestly, that drives me nuts.
I have extreme anxious reactions to certain things (i.e. people yelling) such as fast shallow breathing, shaking, high emotional response, and of course actually feeling anxiety itself. Involuntarily ruminating on those experiences is also quite common for me and is very emotionally distressing.
I sit there and think about how Im thinking, how my body is reacting and wonder “why am I like this? why am I responding like that?”. Its a very weird experience, observing yourself so intently and questioning your own behaviour as it happens. I dont know if anyone else does that, or does it as regularly as I do, but I find it odd.
I will intentionally mention that I am not suicidal. I have thought about suicide twice in my life, but not seriously enough to consider acting upon it.
I do not typically self-harm either. I would say the closest I come to self-harm is beating my fists against my thighs or against each other repeatedly, but not with enough force to make bruises - honestly I dont know if that is considered to be self-harm. Its certainly emotionally harmful because its unhealthy behaviour, but Im not causing myself physical harm.
I also think I may dissociate? For as long as I can remember, Ive been able to daydream quite easily. In my teen years, daydreaming usually occurred when I was listening to music: Id just slip into “the zone” if you will; aware of my surroundings to an extent but more focussed on whats happening in my head. This happens on a daily basis still, usually when Im listening to music and performing a simple repetitive movement such as rocking or walking. But it goes beyond that. Around this time last year I started to experience something else... the best way Ive been able to describe it is almost like when playing a video game - things are happening but you dont perceive them as real. Reality itself wouldnt seem real to me. Sometimes this would be triggered by a stressor that I could pinpoint, sometimes I would be just out walking to the local grocery store and suddenly my surroundings wouldnt seem real. Sometimes it would happen for several minutes and sometimes for a couple hours. It wasnt really distressing in the moment, but it does concern me now that it has happened frequently.
I think this dissociation (if that is indeed what it is) is a symptom of an underlying mood disorder... Im so overloaded with mental/emotional stimuli that it alters my perception of things around me, or sometimes myself.
Anyway, I have spoken with my doctor about it and will continue to. They believe there is a mood disorder of some kind at play, but because I still continue to do my work with minimal distraction from my mental health (they say I am “high functioning” - Ill probably address that in another post) I will likely not be diagnosed for at least several months and also likely not be put on medication. The last part is fine with me; I take enough medication for my other health problems as it is!

Spinule trichophagia.
When geckos shed their skin they can eat it and this can be known as dermatophagy. A disorder that can involve humans biting skin can be known as dermatophagia, I think microscopic hair like protuberances on geckos skin called spinules come off with scales. A disorder that can involve humans pulling out hair can be known as trichotillomania. Birds can also pull out feathers in a disorder called pterotillomania.
Because Geckos can eat their shedded skin they may eat the microscopic hair like spinules that I think are on their shedded skin as well. The picture compares this to trichophagia that can involve humans eating hair. This can apparently be life threatening in humans due to hair getting stuck in the body. Conditions like these in humans can be known as Body Focussed repetitive behaviours or BFRBs.
In the picture the purple colour is due to iodine in the hormone thyroxine that affects shedding in lizards.
While spinules can be found on gecko heads I’m not sure they cover all the areas covered in the drawing or if they are found on the heads of Eublepharid gecko like leopard geckos which I used for reference. The only noticeable difference between the picture and non Eublepharid geckos is the eye but I think the leopard gecko shaped eye may humanise the gecko more. The spinules on the top/ dorsal side of gecko heads can appear curved though.
Thanks for looking/ reading. I hope you enjoy/ enjoyed.

substance abuse addiction recovery south carolina: Rehabs help you quit your addiction
Raise your tone against addiction:
Addiction has become a real issue among every category of our society today which is becoming tough to root out. But as the caption says we all need to work together against this social problem through various advertisements and campaigns. Talking about addiction, it is a kind of slow poison that stimulates health issues in a person hampering both its mental and physical state. Addiction rehab for teen Elizabethtown says addiction is not a result of repetitive consumption of specific abusive substances like drugs or alcohol, but a long run habit of video gaming, porn-watching, inhaling certain vapours, consuming drug-composed medicines can make a person an addict too. So, our team is dedicatedly aimed at finding the reasons behind the addiction in a person and inculcating natural ways to help the person to remould his or her life once again.
Our extensive experience in this area has made our team of healers capable of handling many such issues where an addict resolves all his or her life issues on their own, but with our guidance. Later they frame themselves as a reference for others facing synonymous issues but do not know how to resume their lives.
The first step is to know the reason:
When we know the disease then it becomes easy to cure the disease, the same goes with addiction also. Drug rehab for teen Elizabethtown came up with the following listed points as reasons promoting addiction among our teens and adults mostly. We urgently require our youngbloods to stay in a stable mental state as they are the ones who will take this world forward but with the impact of addiction their life is deteriorating and so the generation is suffering too. Mainly focussing on drug and alcohol consumptions, below are the reasons behind addiction:
Friend circle: This is the most impactful reason that encourages addiction mostly among teens. When teens do not have much sense to examine the activities they are doing and their impact on their lives, it is easy for them to fall in the trap of the wrong friend circle. Seeing friends doing an activity, your teen may follow him or her not knowing the effect of that new practice. Stay alert and see where your teens are going.
Using prescribed medicines: Most of the time, when you are under treatment where you suffer mental sickness, then you face depression, anxiety, sleeplessness, acute pain, etc. At that time seeing your state doctors may prescribe some drug-composed medicines to ease your pain instantly. But a repetitive use of those opioids can cause a lifetime harm targeting your mind and body together. And many people get addicted to using opioids to deal with their mental sickness, which is incorrect as medicines can give instant relaxation not a permanent solution.
Family behaviour: Drug rehab for teen Elizabethtown says that in some families, kids grow up seeing their elders being over-indulged in such dreadful practices. So, the growing teens and adults assume this as family culture and carry on the habit furthermore. Must watch what you are doing and who is watching you.
Rehabilitation is a self-healing method:
In our rehab program at the Best Christian Rehabs, our team understands the reasons behind addiction of each inhabitant, then handles them carefully. We do not go with any specific medicines, but we help them to heal themselves on their own. Every human has a life objective and we are there to guide them to discover those aims. With the help of nature, good habits, good foods, we help every individual to forget their weakness and reboot their lives with new hopes.
We suggest you reach us at the Best Christian Rehabs to learn more about our rehab centre and our programs here. For more details visit us @ https://bestchristianrehabs.org/

Are you raising your kids to be kind?
I believe that if you can choose to be anything in life, then choose to be kind. Kindness is a sort of superpower, something that makes you invincible because nobody expects it, nobody knows how to handle it and nobody really knows how to retaliate. So “killing” someone with kindness has always been my go-to management strategy for almost any situation I find myself in.
Saying that I hope my kids grow up to be kind is an understatement
It is my heart’s desire that I will raise kids who are so kind that the world will never be able to pull them down. And I think so far I am succeeding.
For our last holiday, we went away to the Bushveld. My youngest obviously has sweet blood because the mosquitos just could get enough of her. After 2 nights of unsuccessfully using the natural, non-toxic mosquito repellent, I decided it was time to switch to the big guns. I rubbed her whole body with Peaceful Sleep, putting it on thickly.
Of course, being a child, she was curious as to why she was not allowed to scratch herself and then lick her fingers. When I said it is because it is poison to kill the mosquitos, and therefore bad for her, she started crying. The poor mosquitos were not allowed to be killed! They have caused her nights of scratching and crying and sitting up in misery, yet still I was not allowed to hurt them.

Same trip, different child – first-born has a habit of collecting insects. She believes no insect is beyond saving and will take care of them until they either rot or magically come back to life. She will show off these treasures to anyone who even remotely looks as if they are interested in her babbling on about wings and feet and antennae. If you just look in her general direction she will take that as an invitation to entertain you.

Both my kids understand that although things might be different, they still deserve to be cared for
And they take so much joy and pride in caring for things, whether that be an injured cricket or hugging a friend who is crying, they have a way to identify pain and weakness and try to put a bandage on it.
Isn’t kindness a weakness?
Of course not everyone will agree with me. Some will see this level of kindness as a weakness, something that can be exploited to their benefit, or just plain pathetic. I actually had this conversation with someone who used to be close to me – he was watching a series in which the main character just cannot say no, to anybody, so he ends up helping everybody. Most of the time to his own detriment, but never really causing his own unhappiness. This person described the main character as pathetic, and I wondered why? Shouldn’t we classify pathetic as something else?

We all deserve kindness
I listened to a conversation between Lady Gaga and Oprah, on Oprah’s Super Soul conversations podcast. They were talking about the Born this way movement and Oprah asked LG if she felt that people who have not yet admitted who they really are, and started living the life they were meant to, was living a fake life. LG replied no, they are not living a fake life. To them, it is reality, and they are in the process of taking small bites of kindness every day until they have enough kindness in them to make them brave enough to stand up, stand out, and be them. But until then there is nothing fake about them because that would be demeaning.
How beautiful to think that enough kindness can make you brave.

Self-love and self-care is actually a lesson in self-kindness
By raising kind kids you are also raising kids who value kindness towards themselves. Kids who realise that by having compassion and empathy for themselves they will grow much quicker, much further, than their counterparts who are forever berating and judging themselves. And that compassion and empathy will shine out towards others, giving them the super-power to connect deeply with others.
Kindness can make you healthier
A Harvard study found that when students where shown an act of kindness (Mother Teresa caring for poor people in Calcutta) the researchers found increased levels of serotonin in their saliva. Witnessing kindness also increases oxytocin, the hormone responsible for connection, lowers your blood pressure and increases your dopamine levels. In short, seeing someone else being kind enhances your mood and increases your motivation.
Someone very aptly said:
”From what we get, we can make a living; what we give, however, makes a life.”
They will be those kids who have meaningful friendships and rich lives
Isn’t that what we want for our kids? To live meaningful and satisfying lives? Then we need to raise our kids to be kind. It is important to remember that children are not born simply good or bad. It is our job as parents to help them become caring, respectful, and responsible members in their communities, and this must be done at every stage of their childhood.
How do you raise your kids to be kind?
Raising Kind Kids
by Dr. Robin Berman
You’ve got to be taught to hate and fear, It’s got to be drummed in your dear little ear… You’ve got to be carefully taught. You’ve got to be taught before it’s too late, before you are six or seven or eight, to hate all of the people your relatives hate. You’ve got to be carefully taught.
These words, written in 1949 by Rodgers and Hammerstein, are still vital and relevant in 2020.
To teach our kids the opposite you can use some, or all, of the following strategies:
Make caring for others a priority and identify kindness when you see it
Teach your kids to balance their needs with the needs of others, and to treat everybody with respect. Emphasise their concern for others over their achievements, praising them for doing something kind more than accomplishing full marks on a test. Ask your child how it makes them feel when you praise them, and how great it would be if they can make other people feel like that as well.
To teach them how to be kind, identify kindness when you see it. When you see people doing the right thing, such as being emphatic or considerate, then point it out to your kids. When your child engages in such behaviour, remember to specifically say why and how proud you are of them. Discuss kindness with them, focussing on what it is, what it looks like, and how you can show it to the world. Use everyday examples and ask your kids to finish made-up scenarios to give them protected practice.
Practice self-love and stop the negative talk
Teach your kids to love themselves by showing them that you love who you are. You can demonstrate to them that taking care of yourself and loving yourself, flaws and all, does not make you selfish. By focussing on your own happiness you increase your ability to make other people happy. They will more likely than not see this in action as a happy parent usually have happy kids. This of course means paying special attention to the way you talk to and about yourself. Any negative self-talk, even something as innocent as jokingly referring to yourself as silly for forgetting something, can start to build a wall of negative self-image. And when we feel bad about ourselves it is increasingly difficult to do good for others.
Adopt a pet – provide opportunities for your child to practice caring
Studies have shown that kids who has the responsibility to care for a pet have greater empathy. By giving your kids a pet you are providing them with opportunities to practice caring as well as gratitude. Children need to practice caring, somewhat similar to learning how to play an instrument or a sport. Daily repetition, such as helping to clear the table or remembering to feed a dog, make caring second nature and develops and hone a child’s caregiving muscle.
Talk about empathy and expand your child’s circle of concern
Help your child to identify when someone is being treated unfairly, whether that is something they witness at school, in the neighbourhood or on the news. Talk to them about what it might feel like, as well as what they think should be done. If there was an incident of bad behaviour, such as your child witnessing road rage, you losing your cool or even them throwing a temper tantrum, discuss what triggered the bad behaviour.
Children need to develop concern for people who live different lives than they do, so teach your kids to be friendly and respectful to everyone regardless of age, race, culture or gender. Empower them to feel comfortable caring for those who are vulnerable by creating a “caring and courage zone” – a space where it is ok to comfort those who have been hurt, such as a classmate who was teased. And although you don’t want your child to grow up with a skewed picture of the world, that it is all negative and hardship, you also don’t want them to grow up blind to other’s challenges. So share stories of children suffering as well as how they are being helped. This will teach your kids compassion as well as strengthen their own feelings of gratitude.
Actively listen and give them periods of undivided attention
Set-up times to check in with your child, during which time they will have your undivided attention. Practice rephrasing what your child says as a way of showing them that you are listening. You can also verbalise the feelings that you think they are feeling.
It is important to remember that your child doesn’t always need you to provide a solution to their problems. It is a great skill to teach them that by talking a situation through they are able to come up with the answers themselves. You can coach them during this conversation to ensure the solution is the kindest one possible.
Broaden their world
Teach your kids to know that the world is made up of different people, and that they look different, speak different and believe differently. Different is not necessarily bad, and they must be able to respect these differences. If they do find themselves in a situation where their differences are pitted against another, they must be able to confidently defend or explain themselves without causing pain or divide. Being kind means being aware of differences, but not allowing them to dictate your feelings towards a person or an event.
Own your mistakes
When you make a mistake, whether you realise it yourself or it is pointed out to you by someone else, you need to acknowledge that you were wrong. Accept that you might have caused pain and disappointment and sincerely apologise. That does not mean you do not have the right to discipline your kids. Kindness means respecting boundaries, and by creating boundaries you are also giving your kids the security to feel safe enough to make their own mistakes.
Give them real responsibilities
At the heart of kindness lies a spirit of helpfulness. Stop yourself from raising entitled, ungrateful kids by ensuring that in your family, you don’t do all the giving and they all the taking. Raise kids who feel responsible for their own possessions, as well as respect for other people’s. Give them chores that they are not paid to do – they do them because they are contributing to the comfort and state of the house and family that they live in. This will help them to develop a greater concern for others.
Teach them to identify, acknowledge and handle their own emotions
We need to teach our kids that there is no such thing as a good or bad feeling, rather that some ways of expressing or dealing with these feelings are not helpful or constructive. Children need your help to learn how to identify and then cope with these feelings in productive and non-destructive ways. Teach them how to calm down, how to calmly voice their anger, and how to be sad without being dramatic. Validate their feelings with simple phrases, but don’t support them in wallowing. Responding with compassion and understanding will help your child learn to recognise and value their own emotions, as well as others’ emotions.
Be a good example
Children practice what we do, even if we want them to practice what we preach. They learn their ethical and moral values by watching the actions of the adults they respect and love. Being a good example means that we need to demonstrate honesty, fairness, and caring. Of course that doesn’t mean we have to be perfect all the time; it does mean that we have to say sorry when we overstep or handle ourselves badly. Show your kids compassion by being gentle with them as well as others when they make a mistake. Practice forgiveness.
Through interacting with your child warmly and sincerely you are allowing her to realise that she is a person who deserves to be loved and cared for, because she has a role model who shows her how to care about other people. You raise a child who feels confident about who she is and who feels comfortable in showing kindness towards others. All because of the loving relationship they have with you.
As Stephen Sondheim wisely warns:
Careful the things you say, children will listen. Careful the tale you tell, that is the spell, What do you leave to your kids when you’re dead? Only whatever you put in their head.
Use the language of kindness and insist on kindness in family interactions
Insist on kindness and respect in all family interactions, even the less-pleasant ones. Correct unkind and disrespectful behaviour immediately by kindly asking for a “re-do”. This will help convey that kindness is an important family value and is always expected, and reinforce the rule at all times.
Teach them generosity
Demonstrate how to give back by volunteering, getting involved in community projects, or donating gentle-loved items to those needing them. There are valuable lessons to be learned from these actions such as seeing the bigger picture. This will also help to give them a sense of responsibility and reinforce good values. To develop a service routine by teaching them to serve others by volunteering, donating, giving their time and practising random acts of kindness.
Teaching your kids to be kind becomes second nature if you yourself is kind. And we owe it to ourselves as well as the world to be kind. So start practicing today.

Every Successful Senior Exec Does This
To rise to the top of one’s profession doesn’t leave room for a bad day.
Forty percent of the people who retain my services are Senior and C-suite Executives (CEO’s, CTO’s, CFO’s…). Ever keen to perfect their performance, these executives use Executive Psychotherapeutic Coaching sessions to explore the nuances of their management performance.
Success in this realm is achieved by a wide range of people and personalities. Yet their commitment to excellence remains a common theme. And to achieve excellence you need to have consistent performance and consistently good days.
Successful people have successful habits. These habits have been carefully constructed and created with intention. Anything we do with intention, repetition, and reward sculpts new neuropathways. Of course, it can be awkward and challenging to do something in a new or different way. But this fact almost always remains true: It is difficult until it is not. And once it is not difficult, and if we persist in the behaviour, we call it a habit. In 2017 Steven Covey wrote a book called the ‘The 7 Habits of Highly Successful People,’ which became a best seller and is often referred to work in the circles of Executive Coaching.
In both my psychotherapy practice and in my Executive Psychotherapeutic Coaching practice I always encourage my patients/clients to adopt a short but powerful practice found in Gratitude Therapy. You can read a bit more about this here or watch a short video on YouTube. In this practice we have you write down 5 different things every morning that you are grateful for. This exercise is crafted very carefully for maximum impact. And it is very intentional that we ask you to make this list first thing in the morning.
Every morning is a potential new start to your day, and therefore your life. Successful executives understand how important it is to start their day right. In the last year I started to notice and then began to ask all of my clients how they start their day. Without exception the ones who are knocking it out of the park have an uncompromising morning ritual. Even if they are running late for whatever reason, if their ritual is 8 minutes, they will be an additional 8 minutes late.
A senior VP at an international bank told me this: “My morning ritual is my key to a successful day. It gets my head and heart pointed in the right direction and my body ready to follow-up. Shy of waking up dead, there is no way I would skip my ritual. Either I decide how my day is going down, or I am leaving it to fate – and that is an unnecessary and dangerous gamble. I don’t gamble with my success.”
For most of these successful executives their morning ritual is reasonably brief in keeping with a very demanding lifestyle. Often it is less than 10 minutes. The details vary, but as our Senior VP pointed out, these rituals direct the head, heart and body to start out focussed towards a positive and successful day.
Here is my personal morning ritual. It has served me well for many years.
The minute I awake I say to myself in my head, ‘Thank you!’ You can direct that to anything or anyone you want, but nonetheless, I start with gratitude.
I sit up on the edge of my bed, put my two feet firmly on the floor and reach for my Gratitude Journal. I scribble a list of 5 NEW things I am grateful for and try never to repeat anything on this list. (See this blog to learn more about the how, what and why of this simple Gratitude Journal, click here.)
I put down my journal, put in my headphones and hit play on 2 minutes of white noise and do my Focal Point Meditation. This brief simple mediation focusses my brain.
I stand and do a 1-2 minute of simple stretches to get my self limber and my heart rate slightly elevated.
I finish in a standing position, throw my hands in the air and loudly proclaim, “It’s going to be an awesome day!” (This can be a bit startling to those in earshot, but hey, that’s how I roll!) And I’m off for my self-brewed morning gourmet coffee!
My goal for my day is likely different from yours and my C-Suite Executives. (That part of my life is done and wrapped!). So of course, different goals, different rituals. Longer ones may include Yoga, a work-out, connection to one’s partner, brief scheduling session, writing, or more.
Be clear about your goals and the type of days you want to experience in order to achieve those goals than build your own morning ritual. Make it simple, poignant, and to begin, brief. Work with one of your wisdom providers to make something uniquely you, and uniquely powerful. And as always, if you want me to be part of the team, book an appointment and I would be honoured to work with you anytime as long as it is AFTER my morning ritual!

Why the Digital Analytics Forum 2019 was showstopper!
Entering its 11th year, the illustrious Digital Analytics Forum (DAF) once again showed why it’s the one of the top European analytics events. The event was held on the 14th November in the prestigious Pavillon Vendôme in the heart of Paris and gathered more than 400 analytics professionals and specialists. With a vast range of international guests, from analysts to marketers and business users across different sectors, the event allowed participants to learn more about the latest features in the Analytics Suite. As well as varied presentations showcasing our leading-edge innovations, it also allowed guests to gain new perspectives on their daily work and network with industry peers. AT Internet’s partners also held workshops to guide them and demonstrate the plethora of ways they can provide added value.
As ever, there was a large dose of AT vibe to accompany the event with a cocktail networking lunch and action-packed Wine Casino & Grand Crus wine tasting to round off the day.

Mathieu Llorens’ keynote – the urgency of rebuilding trust
Access to information has accelerated at an exponential rate over the last 25 years with the IT and Internet revolution. However, the rise in fake news has plagued the internet in recent years. Labelled as the perfect drug, fake news is ubiquitous and becoming increasingly impossible to detect.
Today’s tech giants are the biggest traffickers of fake news… and their actions are driven by maximising profit as opposed to spreading the truth. This has led to the paradox of the modern era: “We have never had access to so much information… and we have never had so little confidence in the information we receive.”
Fake news has also undermined the credibility of the media industry with public distrust at an all-time low. Digital marketing should make it possible for companies to be more customer-centric, and better target audiences with more personalised and less intrusive messages. However, although the media industry may promote long-term relationships on the surface, it is preoccupied with short term hyper-growth and the ultra-fast acquisition of traffic, users, audience and profit.
Likewise, the responsible use of Data is continually being eroded. Despite promising international regulations such as the GDPR, CCPA and LGPD, there are still considerable issues with 3rd party cookies, the privacy approach of the major browsers, lack of compliance with regulatory bodies such as the CNIL, increased ad blocker usage, fines and widespread brand damage.
AT Internet offers a range of technical and methodological solutions to guarantee data quality while respecting the privacy of individuals and the European regulations – thanks to ongoing discussions with the major privacy-related institutions.
The main priority is to have clear and transparent consent across the board.
In order to nurture data trust, it is also important to keep in mind the three main pillars:
Purpose – why do I collect data? What is the service I’m offering? What is the value of the service?
Reliability – solid GDPR-compliant practices are key to building confidence
Transparency – it’s vital to explain clearly what you do with your data
Minimisation is the next step for the world of web analysis – saving time, money, and energy for everyone – with the aim of focussing on real value. AT Internet promotes a quality-focussed approach that consists of collecting better rather than collecting more by focusing on the data that can really be activated. Minimisation also increases your economic efficiency: building on the relationship of trust that is the basis of any sustainable profitable business.
“The main drivers of the future will be Efficiency, Privacy, Profitability and Sustainability”
Mathieu concluded by stating that there is an urgent need to rebuild trust in brands, science, and reference media, and we all have our share of responsibility. The world needs to address the whimsical approach taken to data and objective truth and emerge from our currently toxic information environment. We should instead strive for the economic, technical and political benefits that modern tech should rightfully bestow.
The Analytics Suite moves into the fast lane
Next up was our Product marketing director and his team who presented AT Internet’s product vision for 2020 and beyond and the upcoming technical (r)evolution! Stay tuned over the coming months for news on our New Data Factory!

AT Internet’s Explorer has a range of new exciting features that have been created specifically to save you time. Anomaly detection and Axon Contribution are designed to enable analysts and business users to rapidly get the most out of their data – allowing them to devote more time to higher value-added tasks. By applying an algorithm to your underlying data, it can identify and measure variations that explain unusual trends. Seamlessly integrated into Explorer, it is designed to save you time by helping you analyse your data as well as unearthing insights that would otherwise have gone unnoticed.
For all users who carry out repetitive tasks on a daily basis, it now gives them the ability to save the configuration of their analysis as a view and be able to access them directly in Explorer every time they connect.
In addition, Navigation now has new features that allow users to start their analysis of the customer journey from any page of a given site to gain a stronger overall view of their activity.
Feedback from the first few weeks of Data Query 3 has been very positive. Several hundred users were impressed with the high performance of our new engine, with its new user interface offering an improved user experience.
Thanks to this brand-new version of our data mining tool, our users can benefit from advanced features such as:
unique visitors, deduplicated on long periods, across several sites
data viz to better understand the datasets
group-by and count features to manipulate the data without having to leave to Excel all the time
entirely customisable datasets with no correlation constraints, and much more to come
Data Query 3’s new engine is also a fantastic opportunity to revamp and redesign the Analytics Suite segmentation feature. After 30 workshops with some of our most engaged users over the summer, we shared the prototype during the DAF of what could be the future of the segmentation, with one focus: how can we help you save time?
Some features will be released in the next few weeks in Data Query 3 with the following target scope: segments shared on all sites, sequential segmentation, event segmentation, unrivalled performance, and far more.
The awards!

This year we held an awards ceremony on a range of subjects. And the winners were…
Best New Customer Award – a recognition of comprehensive adoption and onboarding of our solution by a new customer Didier de Failly / Crédit Agricole
Range of Usage Award – for the diverse breadth of usage of every aspect of our solution David Teague @the BBC Pilar Moreno – Group Centre France
Data Democratisation Award – for using our solution to maximise access to data across the organisation to all employees Markus Haque / ZDF
Best Product Feedback Contributor Award – for the customer who was the most active in providing AT with relevant and valuable solution feedback Pierre Buffet / Le Monde
Partner workshops and customer success stories
AT boosts Crédit Agricole’s performance
To conclude the presentations, Nicolas Sanchez and Didier de Failly from Crédit Agricole talked about their Data-driven approach and deployment strategy. With data security and protection at the heart of their business model, they launched a new tagging plan to homogenise their data collection and tracking on their national website and 37 regional sites, creating a new customer portal.
Through close accompaniment, AT Internet helped them to harmonise data capture and promote benchmarks, as well as align the main site with tagging of the regional sites. They were also able to anticipate cross-channel Web/Application/Bank agency tracking and create a link the Data and CRM solutions.
Key success factors included an improved AT Internet tagging plan, a Tag Management tool applied to their site, and securing the deployment of NPC via double tagging (IBM DA + AT Internet).
They also carried out internal training to improve skills across all Crédit Agricole teams and enable all staff to get the maximum benefit out of AT Internet’s solution.
L’Équipe – using analytics to fuel efficient personalisation
Romain Lhote, head of data marketing at L’Équipe spoke about how they went from using Data as a dashboarding tool, to genuine activation. By implementing automated dashboards via AT’s API system, they were able to process the vast amount of data from their 2.8M daily users and 1.5B page views per month and effectively democratise it. They subsequently analysed all user data based on feedback and user behaviour with the aim of personalising their site and introducing dynamic web content.
By analysing page views on the app and dataflow API calls, L’Équipe could optimise their use of tags and article metadata. They applied scoring to measure which fans were tuning into which sport and were able to view exactly how many articles were read per sport. This led to complete personalisation of the Homepage.
Altice Média – app store optimisation and the importance of effective onboarding
Last but not least, Jérôme Perani – Growth & Partnerships VP @ Altice Média, talked about how they fully optimised their app stores and onboarding process. As a group with over 1800 employees, 1000+ journalists, and a range of media outlets including 15 TV channels, it was vital for Altice to improve app visibility across its stores through enhanced push notifications & in-app message strategy as well as adopt new tools to accelerate the metrics-action cycle.
He also went into detail about DAU/MAU stickiness (Daily/Weekly Active Users) and how Altice works with AT Internet and its partner connector tools Adjust and Batch to activate the data and optimise their analysis.
In terms of onboarding, Jérôme emphasised the importance of optimising an app’s first-time experience with a clear explanation of the value proposal of the app, the collection of user data consent, registration to push notification services, and avoiding the display of interstitials during the first session.
Altice’s next challenge is to match the existing world class apps by implementing a built-in app business intelligence platform.
AT Internet’s partners – expert solutions to un-silo your data
AT offers its customers access to our partner ecosystem, and the DAF was a great opportunity to meet them. They are all experts in their respective fields – push notifications (Batch), Data viz (Reeport), Data orchestration (Tealium), traffic identification (Oncrawl), and paywall specialists (Poool) – hosting a range of workshops in the afternoon. AT Internet would like to thank them for their valuable participation.

Summary:
In this universe, you don’t meet your perfect match by happenstance. You’ve grown up with them, maybe not physically, but they’ve always been there. In your mind. Speaking to you.
In this universe, humans are not the most powerful, and there’s pockets of our world that lead to the other. To the fae. And there’s so much more to them, than can ever be understood.
Eijun and Youichi. They stand upon the divide.
To a fae, there are three things that are placed above themselves in importance. First is the Other, their source of existence and life-breath. Second is their matched, where many fae will break all rules that would hinder their ability to protect their half. And finally, third is their Royal.
"Eijun, when you approach a Royal, like myself, you must bow before them and allow them to begin the conversation. They have the right above you, regardless of court."
The Seelie and Unseelie courts are ruled by their respective Queen and King. And within each Seasonal court, are their own respective Royals.
"At any other point in time, the Royals are like all other fae. But the Equinoxes and Solstice are where things change, and rules must be followed."
Festivals and War. Happiness and Sadness. The Royals dictate the behaviour of their courts and influence each other in either of these situations. A juxtaposed role that can create ripples in all fae simply by their utterances.
Teachings of Prince Tetsuya, heir to the Summer Court under Queen Rei, to Eijun, a once-budding courtier of Summer
---
Exhaling deeply through his nose, he lowered his hands, pushing down from his chest to his waist with two splayed hands. He mimicked the pulse of life from a newly lit fire, as it receded after a moment of sudden power. His feet had spread out a bit from his formal stance, leaving his body in an active position as it prepared itself to wield the fire again. Another deep breath and he opened his eyes, ready to let the power erupt out of his hands, but unlike the raging inferno ready to pounce, he wanted to control it, to have an equal give and take with the fire.
His eyes gleamed.
Slowly, fire began pouring out into a long strand-like shape, a whip. Two whips in his hands that roared in his ears before coiling haplessly against the burnt forest floor. He raised one hand, watching carefully as the fire rose along with his arm, and guided it against an already smoking dead tree a small distance from him. Watching as it only set the tree alight, but nothing around it, he grinned. A loud laugh inadvertently escaped his mouth, satisfaction curling in his belly as he realized he had finally done it. He had nailed the first of something that other Summer fae had decided was of no use to them any longer.
The art of fire weaponry.
Just as he began to lift the other hand, testing his control with two active wires of flame, he heard a snap of a branch. Immediately extinguishing the dangerous power, he tilted his head to the side, waiting patiently for the presumed animal to get out of range. But rather than hearing the faded sound of scurried footsteps, the branches seemingly got broken by a much heavier weight for they made a different sound than most of the small animals residing in the Emerald forest.
Carefully he made his way closer towards the sound, unsure about who it could be, but wanted to remain aware. He was much more cautious than he had ever been in his long life, usually ready to jump at every intrusion without giving any thought to his own safety – all on his mind was the well-being of his friends and community. However, he could still hear the ringing voice of the Queen reverberating in his head.
“The Unseelie Court has deigned to throw down a veritable gauntlet towards us. We, as a court, have decided that the best decision is to simply revert to parlaying between our two bodies.” She had taken a single breath, brushing a singular piece of dust from her gown with one hand, as the other waved gently to help lower the temperature of the room caused by the anxious fae. “There is no interest in a direct conflict on either side, however, I warn you – the Winter Fae contain much trickery in their bones, remain alert, and remain cautious when not within the borders of your own home.”
The last time there had been a War between the two courts, he had not arrived for it was at the bridge between the ages when the Winter fae had waged a deadly fight against the Summer Court. He had remembered reading the accounts of long-faded fae who described the grisly events of War, of bloodshed and heartache. As a young fae, immortal and immature, he had seen it as something of wonder and had aspired to one day fight in a real battle. He wanted to put his control and power to good use.
But that had never happened, instead subterfuge and political machinations had ruled the interactions between the courts, between all the seasonal courts. And yet, something in the last few decades had changed, and had left all of them with a bad taste in their mouth. So even though every fiber of his being thought confronting the Winter fae, demanding their terms and fighting it out on the field like the Fae of the old, he bit his tongue. Because things were different now, things had changed in the last fifteen seasonal cycles.
Mochi .
He bunkered down, practicing his abilities, while continuing to ignore the growing conflict around him. Hence, he was hesitant and careful as he approached the person who had suddenly entered the forest. Remaining behind a tree near where the figure had paused momentarily, he took in a quick breath before taking a step just to the left of the tree. He hadn’t been able to sense any powers from them, and from his cursory glance, he hadn’t seen the customary ear tips – even though their hair hadn’t been in the way. Looking at them, he felt a tightness in his chest, though he couldn’t place the reasoning for his throat to close nor for tears to build up in his eyes.
So instead he took another deep breath, brushing the stray tears away with barely shaking fingers, and turned his trembling lips into a frown and stern upper lip. He was curious, and a voice inside him seemed to say that this wasn’t a dangerous decision. He stepped out of the shadows, though his face was still partially obscured by the darkness.
In the split second he received as the person registered his presence fully, he noted the bow tightly grasped in their hands. As he continued walking, at a measured pace so as to not create any surprises for either of them, he continued to watch the right hand’s grip on the bow become tighter and tighter, until the already pale knuckles turned a stark white. He was realizing other things as well, how the person had slid their feet apart at a perfect distance to remain in an active position, or the fact that they weren’t wearing any clothes akin to that of a fae. Rather there was extra fabric that bunched around their body, unlike the streamlined cloth many fae wore, and the shoes were completely foreign to him.
But all the while there was a growing noise in the back of his head, a familiar voice that he frantically tried to suppress in the moment lest he get distracted. However, it only seemed to get louder and more panicked, so he focussed and heard the normally joyous voice of his matched sounding terrified.
“Stay away from me. I don’t know who you are, you shadowy-bastard, but stay away from me. ”
It was a continuous and repetitive chant, that only served to confuse him, until he realized. He wasn’t sure, but he had to test it. So he stopped walking, pausing to see if the thoughts would change, or if the figure in front of him would relax at all – neither occurred. Only one other option. Carefully, he cleared his throat, and tried to make eye contact with them but failed as they instead seemed to be glancing around him and at him, but never at him.
With a sigh, he spoke softly, “Mochi.”
At the same time, he mentally whispered the same, “Mochi .”
He wasn’t sure if he wanted to be wrong, or if he wanted to be right. He just hoped.
When he saw the figure shudder before freezing once more, he knew he hadn’t been incorrect. But at the same time, this wasn’t something he could be careless about, Mochi, for all his maturity, was still a child in the eyes of humans. Eijun would have to treat this with caution. He had loved and cared for his matched since the day he had heard that fateful sob in the back of his mind, Eijun would do anything for Mochi.
He raised his hands up, keeping them in view so as to not cause any suspicion. With a careful pace, he tried look as unthreatening as possible. In the fifteen seasonal cycles he had known Mochi, he had learnt that there wasn’t much that would, could, scare the human, but everything Eijun had managed to pick up – from talking to Mochi but also reading about humans in the athenaeum’s few scrolls on the non-faerie – told him that being cautious was important. He smiled softly, and kept his fire down low in his chest keeping the central pulse just below his ribs – fire was powerful and all-encompassing, but it was dangerous and controlling. He wanted the peaceful aura of the forest to permeate the tense standoff between them rather than to add to the strain with unsurmountable heat.
When Eijun was about bow’s distance from Mochi, he had to stop. Mochi had raised his head to look directly at him, the first time he’d made eye contact with Eijun since they had both noticed each other. For a moment he wasn’t able to move, taken back at the surprise lacing his match’s dark eyes, nor was he expecting the tremble in Mochi’s lower lip. Internally wincing, he wanted to reach out and hug the human, but the minute he moved his hands, he noticed that the previously lax grip on bow had once again re-tightened. Seeing the white knuckles, and the fierce look in Mochi’s eyes, Eijun stopped.
He wanted to help, he wanted to be near Mochi. Every part of him was screaming to brush his hand against his other half’s face, to finally feel complete, but he would never be able to do that if Mochi was terrified of him. So he did the one thing he knew had worked since Mochi had first been born. A gentle smile grew on his face as he opened his mouth and began to sing. His voice began as a soft hum, lilting and pleasing but with no real direction for the tune to travel. But he slowly began adding words to the song, singing a tune that he knew Mochi would recognize instinctively.
The song of the warrior Fae.
Even as he was singing, he could see that Mochi’s shoulders were relaxing, the tenseness waning away till only exhaustion remained in his posture. His hand had loosened it’s chokehold on the bow, and his other hand had dropped from the quiver and was instead hanging beside his waist in a loose fist. Eijun grinned widely as the song ended, Mochi had all but fully relaxed, and the terrified look of shock had mellowed to discomfort. Walking closer, he reached out with one hand and placed it on Mochi’s shoulder, internally fighting the urge to pull his human into a hug. He could feel as Mochi finally loosened up, and melted into the hand. A small blush spread across Eijun’s cheeks, which coupled with the urge to shout in joy had left him quite disconcerted. He had finally met his match, he had gotten to touch Mochi, and yet now he was feeling awkward and hesitant. Feeling flustered, he attempted to open his mouth and speak, but found himself unable to.
Closing his eyes, he let his mind regress a bit, to a point when he had been content and happy. Only a few cycles prior, Mochi had been back in his village, attempting to create a trap for small game but struggling with the knots. Eijun, at that time had been doing his daily routine training, letting his body go through the actions, while the whole time his mind was busy talking to Mochi. He hadn’t known anything about hunting, but letting his human talk at him was enough for Mochi to realize his mistake and successfully set up the trap. The excited cheer he’d received had left a wide smile on Eijun’s face for the rest of the day.
So channeling the confidence and happiness he’d had that day, and all other days since he’d first heard Mochi, Eijun decided to speak through their minds in hopes it would put both of them at ease. “ Hello Mochi. ” He punctuated that greeting with a soft squeeze of his shoulder, grinning widely as Mochi replied back.
“Ei-chan? Ei! ” Mochi’s excitement grew on his face, filling Eijun with an inexplicable joy of finally being able to see the emotions he’d felt over the years.
“Yes. I am very glad we get to meet, I have been waiting for this day, for a very, very long time .” His smile was tinged with a hint of pain, but he valiantly tried to suppress it, not wanting to get into his entire story with Mochi – at least not yet. And from the concerned expression that flashed across Mochi’s face, he would have to answer eventually.
With a moment’s consideration, he glanced around him and noted that there were no fae hiding out in the brambles and bushes. So with a sigh, he dropped his hand from Mochi’s shoulder and instead reached down to grab his wrist. Seeing the surprise on Mochi’s face, he shot a wide grin and shifted his hand to hold onto Mochi’s. Laughing brightly, he tugged on their joined hands in the direction of his home. “Well we can’t just speak here forever. I’ll take you to my home. ”
––
There was another reason he wouldn’t say anything more out in the open like that. Eijun was ecstatic, overjoyed that he got to meet his match, to finally put a face to the voice he had nurtured for so long. But he was nervous to let anyone find out that Mochi was here. So as they began walking through the forest, Eijun made sure to keep his guard up, and all his senses open to find anyone in the forest.
He still remembered the day of the Autumnal Equinox, where he had to go before the entire Summer Court, and declare his matched. The shock and horror had been palpable, the pity lacing his friend's eyes, the disgust in his enemies'. It hurt him deeply to see how his Queen instinctively recoiled from him, even as she tried to fight her natural responses and remain unbiased and regal.
Eijun remembered how there was an ache from within his chest, and how he had reached up to rub against his heart while the court had deliberated in their decision. It had been a long time since the court had a non-fae matched pair.
His eyes drifted across the room, meeting the concerned eyes of fae from the other courts. Nori's worried glances from their place in the back of the Autumnal Court, or the cool eyes of Kazuya as he stood at the forefront of the Winter Court beside the Winter Prince.
If Eijun looked to his right, he would have seen Haruichi glancing over to his brother, trying to reach out to the one fae who would understand Eijun's position. Ryousuke had been the last to set precedence for the non-fae matches, however, the Vernal Court answered to the Summer fae, so decisions had been made with the acknowledgement that Ryou was not one to be trifled with. His reputation was one that no one questioned, and the presence of his match in the background of the festival had been overlooked for years.
Eijun had closed his eyes as the pleasant voice of his Queen's decision to let him remain within the court, and to bring his match when the time came. He had stood up shakily, fighting the urge to let his fear show on his face, and instead found his legs quaking. For so long, he had assumed his place within the court was forever, an infinite role that he would play out until his time within the Solar age was at an end. But now, Mochi was his priority, and protecting his human would always be paramount. So he accepted whatever his Queen had told him, quelling the rush of anger in his chest as Mei laughed from his place in the Winter Court. He bit back a nasty retort at Kazuya's steely glare, forcing him to take a deep breath and smother the fire building inside. It would not serve the Seelie well if he acted upon his rage towards the Winter Prince.
The nod he had received from Chris angered him, but had also filled him with satisfaction. He could never train himself out of his feelings of adoration towards the Oracle.
But guiding Mochi towards his home pulled him out of those painful memories, as his match was attracted by everything around them. It was endearing to see Mochi tense up at every sound from the forest, sounds that Eijun had long ago learned to accept as a part of life. The way Mochi’s free hand clenched the bow at the sound of a branch snapping, but then relaxed as a bunny hopped across their path was heartwarming. Eijun knew that there were much more dangerous animals within the forest, having healed and fought many alike. However, they stayed away, understanding his fury would be unmatched if anything were to happen to Mochi.
When the came upon his home, he couldn’t help the soft sigh that escaped his mouth, but for once the sigh wasn’t one of boredom or loneliness, rather one of a rare happiness. After all, his match had finally arrived.
Had finally come home.
Opening the door, Eijun allowed Mochi to walk ahead of him into the foyer, and watched as he placed the bow and arrows down carelessly. It was indicative of Mochi's distraction as in all his memories, Eijun had never heard Mochi be anything but diligent and dedicated to his craft. So he swallowed a smile, biting back a cheeky comment, and instead quickly tucked the weapons away into the side of the door, and headed towards the hearth. With a quick hand gesture, he sent a small ball of fire towards the wood resting there. The room filled with a pleasant heat as the wood began to crackle and burn, bark from the wood snapping and rapidly joining the kindling at the bottom of the fire.
The room was quickly filled with another sound, a loud gasp and a choked breath.
Whipping around to face Mochi, Eijun's eyes flew open at the horror suddenly dancing in Mochi's eyes, and the way his hands shook as they rapidly clenched into fists at his side. But it was the ramrod posture that gave away the most to Eijun. When had Mochi ever held any proper posture? Eijun had never encouraged it himself for the fae didn't believe in rigidity of the body as the humans did.
Taking a step towards Mochi, he found himself re-living the same strange dance they'd played in the forest, for each movement he took, Mochi took the same back and away. Eijun paused. And waited.
Cocking his head to the side, he tried to think of what could have possibly spooked his human so. He scanned Mochi's body, and saw that while his eyes were mostly on Eijun's, they continuously flickered over to the hearth. With a jolt of understanding, Eijun's eyes widened as the realization sunk in.
With a loud huff, ignoring the snap of Mochi's eyes back towards him at the sound, Eijun tried to come up with an explanation that wouldn't scare away his matched. Humans rarely knew about the fae, and a young boy from a small village - he presumed - definitely would not have learnt about the fae and faerie.
"Mochi! Don't be afraid, I won't harm you ever. You're much too important to me."
Rather than looking reassured, his statement only seemed to bring more alarm to Mochi's face, so he quickly backtracked.
"No, I mean I won't harm anyone, not just you." His nonsensical explanation only continued to devolve from there, slowly bringing pieces of the fae and faerie into the conversation, and how his power was fire. He explained that he was not human, but rather a very old fae - Eijun couldn't bring himself to tell for how long. It would tell a much sadder tale.
Mochi looked less convinced each word he said. Eijun could see as the shutters closed in front of Mochi's eyes, watching as his matched began to think he was being mocked and insulted. He wanted so very badly to reach out and hug Mochi, to convince him that everything Eijun was saying was true, but they couldn't. At least not yet.
Running his hands through his hair, he struggled to come up with an idea that would prove that he was telling the truth. With a blink, he paused with one hand still buried in his hair, as a thought crossed his mind. A loud exclamation of joy ran out of his mouth, making Mochi jump in surprise. Giggling to himself at the reaction, Eijun held out a hand in front of him. The flinch at his sudden movements made him hurt internally, but he pushed on. Making sure that he had Mochi's full attention, locking their eyes together and smiling softly as another layer of reassurance, he took a quick breath.
A small ball of fire appeared in his palm. His hand quickly heated up from the hot temperature, and the surrounding air was soon warmer as well. He coaxed it to grow to a reasonable size, feeding power into the ball slowly as if this was simply one of his training exercises, until it was being held gently in his hand at the size of a small melon. Gently, he moved to a short distance from Mochi, careful to keep the ball closer to himself. The fire had entranced his human enough that rather than backing up as before, he was rooted in place; Eijun was able to move closer, quickly.
"The fae, are very similar in many ways, however, it is our powers that separate us from each other." He had intended to keep his voice calm and similar to the way he had learnt from Tetsuya, however, it quickly increased in volume as he rarely had the opportunity to pass on his knowledge - excitement took over. "I can control all forms of fire, be it from within me," he lifted his hand to emphasize the fire pulsing on his palm, "and from fire all around me," his other hand reached out towards the hearth and pulled another similar sized ball of fire into it.
He watched patiently as Mochi's eyes widened at seeing the balls of fire, and couldn't bite back the wide grin that spread across his lips as Mochi reached out to touch them. Eijun made sure that the fire never actually touched his skin, humans wouldn't have the thick skin designed to handle fire, but he did allow Mochi to feel the warmth and the ferocity of the element dancing in the palm of his hands. As understanding grew from behind the shutters in his human's eyes, Eijun allowed the fire to dissipate into the air.
The sigh of discontentment that left Mochi made him chuckle, even though he found himself agreeing. Eijun could spend much of his day watching fire simply be. But, what was more important was that Mochi had finally begun to believe him, and as Eijun continued to re-explain who he was - a fae, and where Mochi was exactly - the Faerie, he could see that rather than immediate negativity, there was a reluctant and grudging belief welling up inside of Mochi. Eventually his explanations seemed to have reached the point of overwhelming, so Mochi raised a hand to cut off his excited ramblings.
"So, you're a fae? A fire-wielding fae, that has been inside my head since I was born?"
Eijun nodded enthusiastically, a wide grin on his face as he listened to Mochi speak.
"You've been a fae all this time, so all those songs you sang to me, they weren't in Japanese. Every time you gave me advice, it wasn't because you simply understood my struggle, but that you had lived through things that were much worse."
Eijun might have explained a bit about the previous war without realizing. He knew that Chris would not have been impressed by his inability to suppress his tongue when excited. Especially as they'd worked on that for so long. Mochi's pointed glare made him wince even further. He meekly nodded, all excitement gone and his countenance deflated.
But rather than storm out or berate him, Mochi finally took a step towards Eijun, "You have been inside my head since I was born and cared for me. You have been there for me when no one else would or could. Ei-chan ."
The utterance of his name, the shortened form of his true name that he had painstakingly taught a one-cycle old Mochi, made him pause. Blinking carefully, he waited with bated breath as Mochi continued to speak.
"I guess, that means you should call me Youichi then Ei-chan, after all you probably know me better than anyone else."
Seeing the soft smile on Youichi's face, and the way that his hand shook as he reached out to Eijun's face, he couldn't help the internal squeal nor the external exclamation.
"Oshi! Then you can call me Eijun," he felt his heart thump from within the confines of his rib cage, for the fae were hesitant when sharing names. Slowly, he grasped the hand that reached out towards him, squeezing it gently before letting go and allowing it to continue on its original path. As Youichi's hand brushed up against his cheek, Eijun allowed his own hand to do the same on Youichi's opposite cheek.
For a moment, the world froze for both of them, and they could feel a change. Not something that could be described in words beyond, perfect.
Slowly, he let the name caress his lips, rolling out of his mouth as gently as he could allow it, "Youichi."
Youichi.

I didn’t think that I would make it to 100 assumptions. I reached 20 assumptions and my brain felt like it was going to fall onto the table in front of me. Using this stage of the Ingenium process forced me to think (quite desperately) outside of the usual “has pages, is for children” etc. I found that this stage of the Ingenium process encouraged me to thik fluently, not focussing on solving the problem, or thinking about different assumptions and trying to tie them into something that would solve a certain problem. Since then, I have raised money for children, build 8 businesses & travelled the world. In this course, I will give you the skills you need in order to feel better about yourself and achieve actual results in your personal and professional life. So what exactly are you going to learn in this life mastery? This course is divided into 8 parts - goal-setting, confidence, self-esteem, leadership, stress-management, productivity-hacking, morning routines and study hacking. We will start off by talking about goal-setting and I will show you how to set SMART goals - goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, results-oriented and time-bound. Afterwards, we will focus on how to apply them in a real-world environment. We will cover how to turn broad goals into SMART goals and how you can implement this kind of thinking into your daily activities. We will continue afterwards with Edwin Locke’s two goal theories that will help you to improve your understanding of motivational goals. I will leave you at the end of this chapter with my 7 top strategies to not just set but also achieve your goals. In the second part of this course, I will give you my TOP 15 strategies for more confidence. We will cover body language, argumentation and much more! In the third part of this course, I will take you from where you are right now to the point where you know that you are capable of leading other people, including yourself. We will first of all figure out who you truly are and clean up all the misconceptions you had until now. To be precise: We will be working on your self-awareness. Afterwards, we will focus on intra relationship skills, have a look at theories in the field of sociology and communication and I will afterwards show you how to apply them in a real world environment. As a follow-up we will then focus on developing our own leadership skills, were I will focus with you on the three 3 main concepts every leader needs to know how to master. These are execution, influence and resilience. We will then focus on how to deploy leadership skills toward other people without seeming to be bossy or unfriendly. And in the end of this course, I will reveal long term strategies that will help you to analyse your own behaviour toward other people. In the fourth part of this course, we will continue by talking about stress-management. In this part of the course, I will show you step by step how you can become less stressed quickly. In the fifth part of this course, we will talk about 30 highly effective productivity strategies focussing on topics such as: Automatic Bill-paying News Tools Hacking Lost Hours Back and Sync Ups Exercising Hacks Stress Management Hacks The Success Formula Public Commitments Alert Hacks Streamlining the Wardrobe Afterwards, we will talk about your morning routine. We will in this chapter cover the questions: What makes a great morning routine and how do I develop one? How can I impose habits on myself that really work? How can exercising influence my morning productivity and happiness and how will I not be tired after the exercise so that I can be productive during the day? How does sleep pattern hacking work and how can I help myself sleep better? Then, we will talk about study-hacking, I will introduce you to super learning and accelerated learning - I will explain how we are going to combine both concepts and will show you how we are going to connect both sides of our brain through methodical training. Afterwards, we will talk about different types of learning such as auditory learning, visual learning, reading/writing learning and kinesthetic learning which we will then connect with each other in order to connect both sides of our brain. In this regard, we will also talk about the 8 different intelligences, remembering key terms and repetition cycles. While other courses leave you confused and only give you a glimpse on life hacking, this is an A-Z guide - the complete life mastery course! Week 1 Task 1 -Group assignment
Spatial Class Presentation, 28.02.18
Joanna Margaret Paul
Video Artwork, Task.
Created 1982
Video length 3 minutes 11 seconds
Shot on 6mm and 18mm film
Questions to consider and present back to the class.
Describe the time-factor/temporality of one of the projects
The project Task is a performance of ironing. The unidentifiable women undergoing the task repeats herself continuously until she is finished. The video starts off with her midway though ironing child's clothing, making the viewer unaware of the amount of time she has been ironing for. The video continues to show her ironing and repeating similar gestures making the context feel long, and mundane. The subject of the video relates to time through repetitions, the more time she spends ironing a specific item of clothing relates to amount of attention she is giving the task which would change the outcome of the quality of the ironing job. As an audience we can only react or experience her ironing through the video. Once the video comes to an end, the ironing has stopped too, therefore she only exists in the video. Although the repetition makes the audiences feel like she would perform this same task with the same amount of attention everyday. Even though we only see her iron for a short period of time, the video makes us imagine this chore as if it’s part of her routine/ everyday life.
What is the body/action/audience relationship?
The connection we have as viewers of this performance is that we are able to relate to this task as we know it to be a daily household chore that we have experienced ourselves before and seen our parents do. The immediate relationship we have with this task makes it frustrating to watch as the woman performs her ironing technique in a rather rough and rushed manner. The action of her aggressive ironing style demonstrates a “twice behaved behaviour” (Schechner 29) as you recognize that this woman has done this many times before. Furthermore, the focus of the repetitive motion, ultimately highlights the tedious nature of this ritual in this woman’s everyday life which now seems to have become an annoyance and a last minute job.
What narrative is created/communicated?
This particular piece documented motherhood and domestic life. The purpose of her work as a moving image is so it can be understood at an international level. There is no sound, no text throughout this piece, just the repetition of movement. Something we all despite the barriers of language and cultural differences, can understand.
The narrative communicated by Paul’s work, is the process of domestic household chores. Unwrapping the physical aspects of the video, use of child's clothes gives the audience the interpretation that these do not only belong to her but her child, suggesting she is a mother. Repetition of the process suggests that it is something done daily, almost like a official ritual. We can tell by the way the figure has been accessorised with a blouse and bracelet that these are women’s hands. Household work such as ironing, a task, is usually if not always, done by the woman. It is the role of the domesticated wife to take on these daily chores.
The video revealing the dexterity and attention of the repetition leads us to think that this video is more than just about the recording of ironing. But also about the training, manipulating and domesticating progress of the female body used for these tasks. We as an audience can better conclude this watching it now, as the video was made during the 1980’s. A time where women in homes were still expected to fulfill these roles.
What is the context within the work occurs (formal, informal urban, social)?
The context of this performance is an informal household setting, the action of ironing is being done on a sheet. However its purpose is to conform to a social context, an expectation of the role of a housewife and presentation of children to others. The period context of the film is shot in the 1980’s, which is hinted at by the woman’s clothing and the model of iron. The social context pre-dates this and refers to the gender discrimination.
The context of the shot, is from a high angle under dim lighting, looking down on the woman’s hands. This could be interpreted as metaphorical for the attitude toward women and enforcement of these rituals which they are expected to perform. The angle of the shot also gives the video an instructional quality similar to that of a cooking video, it also removes the woman’s identity from the shot deeming it irrelevant. It doesn’t matter who she is, its about her role and duties during this era. The performance is repeated over and over to outline the frustration and pointlessness underlying this learnt behavior.
To what degree is the work participatory?
The work is communicated as participatory to the audience through the demonstration feel and repetitiveness of the actual film. The video content being in dim lighting, and the way the woman is ironing, roughly and quickly, evinces the viewer that she is stressed and perhaps doing late night chores. Possibly in preparation for the next morning. The way our group felt about the technique of the subject matter focussed on the actual ironing itself. It made us want to step in, help her iron, more smoothly and correctly. We felt that this is how the video made the audience feel a part of the piece.
In terms of degree, we believe it comes in two parts. Observance and a hunger to help. As we observe, our action becomes response to the film. The way we respond determines how we as an audience choose to participate. Paul’s artwork made us, as stated earlier, yearn to help. As we view the film, we long to participate by being one, moving into the action being
showed itself. Putting ourselves into the position of the woman ironing, and proceeding to carry though this task as we would consider, the right way.
The performance is a demonstration of someone ironing
She is “showing doing” (Introto, 28) as a daily ritual.
The action happening with the audience is how we as the viewer are responding to the video.

GROUP TASK ONE
Joanna Margaret Paul
Video Artwork, Task.
Created 1982
Describe the time-factor/temporality of one of the projects?
