i just don’t get how people can think bluesey is boring in trc… like are were we reading the same books???

i love love love pynch, but theres something so special and electric about blue and gansey in the series. the angst, the yearning, the feeling of ganseys death and blues curse looming over them.

they have such iconic banter, “i wish you could be kissed jane”, THE ENTIRE GODDAMN TOGA SCENE, him wrapping her in his coat, “she makes me quiet”

adam and ronan always get more credit because they have more build-up, but the fact that blue and gansey aren’t slow-burn makes them so interesting because that they want each other so bad and know it, but its just their fate that’s stopping them. every single scene had me on the edge of my seat!!

like you can’t have the raven cycle without bluesey they really are the couple!!

I keep searching through fics on AO3 by word count and half the time it’s just Kinktober fics and that is not what I want I want something that’s comparable fiction to novels that are considered literary works of art!1!1!1! In other words, I’m picky. If you are too this may just be the list for you. Enjoy 😛😛

1. Concorde, Anonymous, AO3 (must be a member to read), 176k words

What if Adam was removed from the Parrish household at age 10? And what if he became the ward of a certain dreamer?

This fic had me in a CHOKEHOLD genuinely killed me and revived me. If you enjoy novels that are time jumpy and show rather than tell than this fic is for you. It’s confusing in the fun literary type of way and it is so well crafted and well articulated. I am a huge huge fan.

2. Magnetic by MonsieurBlueSky, AO3 (must be a member to read), 231k words

“an AU in which Ronan never befriended Gansey and after the death of Niall Lynch, Gansey isn't there to pull Ronan back from the edge. Kavinsky is there instead, ready to push him over.”

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING NO NOTES GENUINELY PHENOMENALLY EXECUTED I adore this fic and everything about it. The way the author is able to examine ronans relationships and how magic impacted them is just so so so lovely. I read this in one sitting and I sobbed for hours after finishing. Please read the tags, there is graphic depictions of suicide, self harm, substance abuse, domestic violence, etc. it’s all very canon typical but elaborated on.

3. Violent Delights (Violent Ends) by sunmoontruth, AO3, 200k words

Oh. My. God. Holy. Fucking. Shit. HUNGER GAMES AU. Genuinely such captivating writing, the story pulls bits and pieces from the original Hunger Games, but there is so much that is original and fresh that this fic becomes less of an AU and more of a stand alone work. And with everything going on in the world now, in America where I live, this more graphic adult version of the hunger games truly hits where it hurts. Phenomenal characterization, such an amazing adaptation. I am floored beyond belief.

4. (The Time It Takes) To Believe in Fate by LydiaStJames, AO3, 100k words

“When he was 16, Adam walked into a forest in Henrietta, Virginia and exited in 1800s Ireland. The day he spent with the grumpy but attractive farmer lingered with Adam for years, but the forest didn't seem like it would appear again. That is, until Adam returned to Henrietta for his father's funeral and the forest calls him back once more.

To Ronan.”

GOD SO GOOD SO WELL WRITTEN. I have re read this one too many times to count. It is beautiful. It’s also such an intriguing concept and such a unique and original AU that it feels so disconnected from the original canon in a way that makes it much more enticing. Like the characterization is spot on and it’s so cool to see how these characters react to such an odd set of circumstances relative to their original canon.

5. Seek Ye The Living by charactershoes, AO3 (must be a member to read), 40k words

Adam is a priest. Declan and Ashley are getting married. Ronan is having a faith crisis. What’s new.

6. Divinity by Cazio on AO3, 67k words

Magic can’t heal everything, especially when Ronan lacks the knowledge to dream a fix all. In other words, during his first semester at Harvard Adam gets sick. In true Adam fashion, he completely ignores it. But eventually it becomes too much for him to evade.

This fic is emotionally devastating. But, for some weird reason, it’s a comfort fic for me as someone who is chronically ill. It is a different type of illness and a much different type of circumstance but to see Ronans characterization when faced with something so devastating, and to see Adam get taken care of with such love. It means a lot when that is something I’m so deeply afraid I’ll never find. Please please please be aware of the tags and archive warnings.

For now these are my favorite long fics that are pynch centric but also just beautiful examples of literature that is so well written it feels like a disservice to label it fan fiction. I’ll update more as I read more!!

I think there was a huge missed opportunity in The Raven King to add another Blue-and-Ronan one-on-one scene. I’m saying this not just because I love their dynamic, but because the two of them don’t actually click in the narrative until the very end of Blue Lily, Lily Blue. We then have one final book where we get glimpses of their cemented relationship, but most of TRK has Blue spending time with Gansey and/or Henry, and Ronan with Adam, with the scene in Nino’s to put a cap on the Adam/Blue dynamic. We know from Ronan’s monologue at the beginning of CDTH that he considers Blue a friend on level with Gansey, his brothers and Adam as his complete set of loved ones. So it’s really a bummer that we don’t get to see that one last time—or, considering the one real scene of them alone we see is their first time completely trusting each other, at all.

I also think a scene establishing their care for one another is especially important in TRK because while lots of people mention that Gansey was willing to die in the end to save Ronan (and Adam), Blue was also willing to kill Gansey to save Ronan (and Adam).

k i wanna read a fic where bronan are roommates and adansey are roommates. then bluesey and pynch both get into a fwb/casual dating situation. blue and adam are anti commitment, ronan and gansey are desperate for commitment/they know theyve found the one. roommates confide in roommates, blue tells ronan to tell adam how he feels, adam tells gansey the same advice, but neither are happy when their advice bites them in the ass and they get broken up with. blahblah they realize they made a mistake and happily ever after for them all the end

Chapter 4 of my Blue and Adam stuck in a time loop trying to save Gansey fic is now up (finally). In this chapter The Gangsey has dinner at 300 fox way, Adam and The Gray Man reach an understanding.

“You still need to make sure he doesn’t run off somewhere tomorrow,” said Adam. “You need to make sure he remains inside and safe. That he won’t be harmed by anyone including you . You may know all about doing damage with guns or knives or your hands, but Cabeswater doesn’t need any of that. It is not a man, and neither am I.” 

Adam said the last sentences as Ronan would say them, with a drawn out malevolence. He did his best to stare into The Gray Man’s eyes as threateningly as when Ronan had stared down his father. 

The Gray Man did not appear outwardly chagrined, Adam hadn't really expected to intimidate a hit man. But he had to try. 

“It has no hands and eyes, and yet it has you. I know what it’s like to be the lever, to do the dirty work for something or someone else. Was it worth it? Your sacrifice. Mine never seemed to be.”

pynch fic band!au where Gansey,Ronan and Noah are in a band. They are performing a cover of "the summoning" by sleep token. Gansey is the main singer but Ronan sings the last verses.

Adam is in the front row of the crowd bc Blue forced him to come with her. He's enjoying the music but then the tattooed guitarist starts to sing for the first time in the show and while he's singing he's looking at him, staring at his soul and Adam is mesmerised and he also can't take his eyes of him for the rest of the show and the guitarist keeps looking at him too.

Life in their matchbook apartment revolves around that table. He was reading the paper (the finance section) idly. Later, he’d make himself a plateful of scrambled eggs. For now, he was still mostly asleep, sitting up like a prop to well-wish his partner out the door. 

Blue’s cell phone was going off, chirruping insistently. She took one last big spoonful of strawberry-flavored dairy goodness and kissed her fingertips before she answered Blue Sargent, pressing them to his mouth as she passed on her way to defend the disenfranchised masses. 

“What.” Gansey mumbled to himself again, and then got up to go water all his plants. Their apartment resembled some kind of strange urban jungle, with greenery lush and alive on every possible surface. On their tiny balcony, he had a potted lemon tree that lived in their bathroom on winter nights but thrived now in the summertime light, fruited and vital. He liked it— being surrounded by so much life. 

He was a gentleman of leisure; he spent his days trading stocks and caring for his plants and going to the gym and working idly on his thesis. He’d be a PhD sooner or later— Dr. Richard Campbell Gansey III. For now, he was content to be just this— just Gansey. 

What, he texted Blue for good measure, before starting in on his morning dose of protein in the form of expertly-scrambled eggs. It was the only thing he knew how to cook without fail. He and Helen used to eat platefuls at night when they were too polite to wake up the housekeeper but too wracked by growth spurts to go hungry.  Blue didn’t respond except to send him a meme about capitalism. He forwarded it to Adam, who sent back funny, because he was too serious and too Adam to ever type out lol.

i really appreciate in the raven cycle that there is a difference in how the boys talk and think about women before and after befriending blue:

at the start of the series there’s a lot of unconscious misogyny towards female characters: the boys discounting ashley as dumb, how they all react to the prostitue conversation and blues reaction, and the way they talk to the fox way ladies

even when they get to know blue, they all still show some underlying misogyny in the beginning:

gansey saying he sees blue as blue, not as a girl in tdt because he has a substantial connection with her

blue being apart of adam’s fantasies of being rich and “getting the girl” and resenting blue for not wanting to kiss him

ronan disregarding blue as a person and not seeing the appeal of befriending her because he doesn’t have any attraction to her like the other boys

its so realistic for teenage boys who haven’t had any female friendships, and you can really see how they change and grow into their friendships with blue like adam defending her to that random catcaller, ronan actually befriending her, and gansey really falling in love with her as a girl, it’s done so well.
