I've only now copped on that two of my favourite manga/anime characters are both people that other normally written off as foolish and incapable. But they are really clever, care for the people around them and are more than capable for the task.

Both end up as royalty!

With the end of Ramadan rapidly approaching, I'd like to give attention to another Muslim doll line. Though unlike the others, this one is far less obscure...

You know them, you love them, give it up for the Arabian Friends!!!

While Fulla is objectively more popular than Arabian Friends (having a longer span of releases and merchandise), I'd definitely say Arabian Friends are more talked about in western doll collecting circles. This is likely because while all the other Muslim doll lines I've found use Barbie proportions, these moreso resemble Winx or W.I.T.C.H.

Arabian Friends were released by Newboy, the company behind Fulla, in 2007. They were first teased in issues 08 and 10 of Fulla Magazine, before being officially revealed in issues 11 and 14 (the latter seen above).

Only 8 dolls in total have been released for the line: a Deluxe and a Budget doll for each of the four characters. The Deluxe sets came with two outfits, accessories, and an Abaya. The Budget sets came with one outfit and a matching Hijab. Each doll had 7 points of articulation, with bend-and-snap knees.

A third line was announced in 2008 in Fulla Magazine issue 19, advertising that whoever could answer which character had which profession would enter a raffle with the chance to receive a full Arabian Friends collection, but this ultimately never came to pass. (The answers were: Muna - Fashion Designer, Amal - Kids' Teacher, Dunya - Coach, and Ahlam - Air Hostess)

It's said on Dollect there might have been an accompanying animated series, but the most I was able to find were two videos. One seems to be a trailer for the animated series.

The other includes a Back To School merchandise advertisement, and what might be an animation where the girls reminisce on when they were younger and how their aspirations led to their respective careers (the trailer seems to re-use animation from both of these).

A comment beneath the Trailer claims these were actually meant to advertise for an upcoming movie rather than a series, but no further news came out after these videos were released. If this is true it's honestly a shame, and might have been cancelled around when the third series was intended to release. The animation provided reminds me of Sailor Moon, and I would've loved to see it in a full storyline!

First character up is Amal, whose name means "Hope"! Her description reads:

"Never forget that hope is the key that opens all closed doors. With hope in your heart you will never be alone and nothing in life will seem impossible.."

Amal reminds me the most of Usagi from Sailor Moon, as the animation seems to portray her personality as being kind yet clumsy. It's ironic that she eventually becomes a schoolteacher as well, considering she apparently had a habit of arriving to classes late. She's also seen tucking a child into bed, so perhaps she's a mother, older sister, or aunt as well?

While depicted in the animation as having honey blonde hair, her doll has dirty blonde hair in two low pigtails (possibly tied by pink ribbon or thread). And ironically, despite her Deluxe doll using more patterns than her friends, her Budget doll is the only one without a patterned shirt.

Next is Muna, whose name means "Wish". Her description reads:

"Wishes are like bright stars in a dark sky although they are only small they fill our lives with happiness and make the darkness beautiful."

Muna is a Fashion Designer with an eye for intricate design and detail. She spends a good amount of time in her studio, seen drawing on her friend's leg cast and her highschool classroom's chalkboard. At one point, Muna is also seen helping an elderly woman across the street, so clearly her devotion to her work doesn't stop her from being charitable when she can be!

Her fashion style in both doll and animated form definitely seems the most bold out of her friends, reminding me of when 2000s-era fashion would draw inspiration from the 70s! While in the animation she and Dunya were depicted with tanned olive skin, their dolls have the same skintone as Amal and Ahlam. She has brown hair with red highlights. In the animation her hair was often depicted with side part bangs and a headband. However, her Deluxe doll has a red beanie, and her Budget doll has a middle part with braids coming down on either side of her head.

Ahlam's name means "Dreams". Her description reads:

"Dreams are like beautiful butterflies that fly in the wide blue sky. It is good to have dreams because they take you to a place where anything is possible.."

Ahlam is apparently a pianist in addition to her Air Hostess job, having dreamt of flying since she was in school. She seems to be portrayed as considerate and low-key, which aligns with her cool blue color scheme!

Her doll's fashion style seems to be Boho Chic, with beads, frills, and florals. In the animation her hair is short, with a side part and a blue butterfly barrette. Her doll, meanwhile, wears her black and blue hair beneath a navy cap in her Deluxe look, and a middle part tied back in her Budget look. Visually, she reminds me of Ami Mizuno!

And last but not least, Dunya! Her name means "Life", and her description reads:

"Your friendship is like a beautiful flower to me. Your nice words, kind deeds and positive attitude are sure to be rewarded with happiness and love.."

Dunya seems to be a healthy eater, going to someone's house with a bowl of greens (salad or kale perhaps?), and making a smoothie while on the phone. She also does stretches and runs on her treadmill. All of this makes her the perfect fit for a coaching position!

Weirdly enough, her hairstyle in the animation is exactly like Amal's doll, with two low pigtails tied by pink ribbon. Her doll, meanwhile, has brown hair in a side part tied in a high pony with silver elastics (giving me Vidia vibes tbh). Her olive green fashion seems to be relatively modern (at least for the 2000s) and urban. Her clothes are the ones I can most easily see on a Bratz doll!

Overall, I simply adore this line!!! It feels more character-focused than other ones I've covered, and I'm a sucker for such strong color-blocking! It's hard for me to even pick a favorite, since their centralized aesthetics are all so compelling and unique! If anyone who knows Arabic would be able to translate what they say in the animations, I'll happily add an addendum to this post for clarification!

It's a shame the line and its movie was cancelled before it could receive the acclaim it deserved, I would've loved to see what more it had to offer! Regardless, I'm thoroughly impressed with what they managed to put out, and hope the designers have been able to apply their clear talents in other endeavors!

Pyrrha, accompanied a mysterious woman, casually walked through the halls of Beacon Academy towards her dorm. Turning heads and making a certain heiress freak the fuck out.

Pyrrha: *turning to the mysterious woman, and smiling brightly* I'm so happy you've come to visit, Maki!

The woman, now called Maki, turned to her and a smile ever present on her face

Maki: of course, It's not often i get to spend time with my little sister.

She patted Pyrrha's head, nakig the spartan blush.

Pyrrha: Maki! I'm not five anymore

Maki: *still smiling* I know, but you're still my little sister. * Her face shifted(finally) to sort of questioning one* Could you tell me about your teammates again, I wanna be sure I have the whole picture?

Pyrrha nodded and started describing her teammates

Pyrrha: Well, there's Ren. He is fairly silent, often seen as the ninja of our merry band by others. But he's patient and an excellent cook.

Maki nodded wordless

Pyrrha: then there's Nora.......She very....energic to say the least....

Maki: I see..

Pyrrha: And finally, there's Jaune. And honestly, what can I say about him. He's sweet, caring, the first person to not see me as a champion buy rather a normal girl...

Maki: *her unsettling smile returned as she watched Pyrrha prattle on about Jaune*

Maki didn't fully catch the last part as she stared at Jaune. His blonde hair, goofy smile, and attitude reminded her of a certain puppy she met long ago.

Jaune: So how do you know Pyrrha Ms....

The ending reveal, if you could call it that was based off of a few stories I read with the same idea.

I'm really curious about the second arc based off your hcs!

EXTREMELY LONG ASK! I’ll put a super quick TLDRL at the end, but this is my longest ask by FAR.

I’m really not a fan of time travel in sailor moon, so season 2 is very different in my hc.

I still rlly like Ail and An, so I think I’d keep them for the first section of season 2, but introduce them as regular students that attend the same school as Usagi and Ami in season 1.

I thought even having An as Usagi’s classmate and having a Rei like bantery relationship. Show them being kinda weird and a bit more comic-y side characters during the season, but never have them fight or meet the senshi directly. They attack with more subtlety to avoid inciting suspicion and honestly, just have them act like they are trying to live a regular life, which they are, but they have to feed on energy to survive (no tree needed).

The Ail and Ann section would be more low key, let’s try to get our shit together and recover front he trauma we just witnessed at the end of the first season type deal (they didn’t die), but layer a level of quiet but ever rising uneasiness. Something is changing, the girls are changing.

Venus contact with Minako is getting stronger and stronger. Ami’s black hair (i hc her having jet black with a blue shine hair as a civilian, which turns blue post transformation) is starting to grow blue roots. Mako is getting ever so slightly taller and muscular. Rei’s visions get way more frequent and her powers are starting to bleed to her human form. Usagi’s is starting to behave a bit off, few strands of white hair start to poke out among her blonde hair.

They eventually square off with Ail and An, who found out their secret identities. Due to an accident, the building they are in collapses splitting the girls and Ail and An in odd groups. All the girls, but Usagi ready to kill the threat and An battling internally as well, not really wanting to fight, but at the same time being unwilling to believe Usagi would be a Sailor Senshi.

For Ail and An backstory. They were forced to evacuate their planet as kids cause Galaxia attacked their protector (who is also a senshi, but they don’t know that yet) and devastated their planet. This caused an immense resentment toward the sailor senshi kind by both Ail and An, but Ail being the older more mature of the two, just wants to let peace and to live a peaceful low key life on Earth. An doesn’t believe that could happen, because these other senshi will come after them again and kill them, cause that’s what senshis do.

They eventually resolve their conflicts and Ail and Ann get to live on Earth among them (with some restrictions on what type of energy they get to consume, limited human energy, just don’t attack people in general terms lol).

Skipping to the second section of season 2, this is where the bigger more dramatic stakes come in. As I stated in a previous ask, both Serenity and Venus used Venus’ sword to make their souls persist through their reincarnations and they are staring to resurface from within Usagi’s and Mina’s bodies.

Luna is very perplexed by all the changes going on among the girls, at this point knowing the whole deal with the Moon Kingdom, the now gone ‘Dark Kingdom’ and Artemis, but still not having any memories of it. One particular night, she takes a walk to reflect, trying to focus and remember, and that’s where, while crossing at a green light, among the public she spots a Sailor Pluto towering unmoving among the walking crowds. Just staring her down with a blank expression on her face. This causes her to stop everything and just stare, pieces of her memory slowing unblurring, one by one, Venus, Jupiter, Mercury, Mars.. Serenity.. Serenity! Just like that she misses the lights turning red, a truck barreling toward her at full speed.

The girls all meet having looked for Luna everywhere. Makoto joins them a few moments later with a small plastic bag in her hands, having seen a couple of trash collectors in her neighborhood getting ready to load a fresh roadkill into their trucks, Artemis being with her commands her to stop them, having smelled Luna’s scent.

The girls all have different reactions to this. Ami immediately going and taking the bag, in complete denial and desperation she just cries holding Luna. Rei is just left absolutely stunned and in disbelief. None of her other premonitions ever came true.

Rei is constantly plagued by visions, most of these visions are futures that will never happen. She’s seen all her loved one die in all of different ways, events out of apocalyptic scenarios, all of which never happened, so she just stayed silent about them. Choosing to not cause unnecessary stress for what it’s basically a fortune cookie prediction. But this one was the one, the one to actually come true, seeing Luna on a snowy night getting hit by a truck while crossing a sidewalk.

Rei and Luna’s relationship was a bit strained. Rei always turning her nose up at Luna’s attempts to be a force of authority to Rei (never goes well). Though throughout season 1 Rei learns to ‘tolerate’ her after a talk they had, Luna stating that she was never trying to replace Rei’s mother and that she truly wants to be there for them, but that Rei is free to not accept her that way and keep healthy boundaries between them.

This next section is an excerpt from an outline I have saved of the scene following Luna’s death. (Warning I suck at writing so go easy on me. This isn’t meant to be read as a story, but just a dialogue outline for me to keep as a guideline)

Rei, at the sight of Luna’s body in the bag blurts out loud that this isn’t possible and they it doesn’t make sense. None of her predictions ever came true, it doesn’t make sense, Mina coming to her side to calm her down and trying to understand what visions Rei is even referring to.

Ami overhears this while still crying, devastated.

“You saw this?” With the widest and most blank eyes Rei has ever seen on Ami.

“No, I mean yes.. but it never happens. I just see some much, all the time, with you, with Luna and I can’t-”

“Murderer”

“ …What? What did you just fucking say?”

“MURDER!!” And with that she jumps at Rei, blinded by rage, genuinely ready to start a beat down. And Rei doing the same, being also blinded by rage and betrayal of Ami accusing her she would ever withhold such information on purpose. Fortunately Mako and Mina intervene, Mako keeping Ami at bay while Mina severely struggles with Rei.

Ami keeps throwing accusations and insults toward Rei, knowing very well of Rei’s poor treatment of Luna, but being unaware of the small bridge of agreement they came to just among themselves a bit prior. Though she’s just genuinely blinded by grief and rage, she would’ve never accused Rei of such things with a clear mind. Luna was the closest, among all the others to Ami, being the first to be awakened by her (I have a different join order for the senshi, I have a diagram for it right HERE! But it’s basically Luna awakens Ami, Rei and Usagi, in that order, while Artemis awakens Mina and Mako). Their bond has genuinely become one of a mother-daughter relationship, so losing Luna hit Ami the absolute hardest.

Mako has to knock Ami unconscious to help Mina with Rei and Rei, obviously threatened by Mako, plus he’s herself off of Mina. While Mina instructs Mako to just let her be and that she just wants everyone to calm tf down.

Rei still in utter shock and denial looks toward Usagi “WOULD YOU FUCKING SAY SOMETHING?!”.

Usagi was just holding still silent this whole time, eyes widened in shock, but.. not balling. Small tears at the edge of her eyes are all she’s given. She’s just shocked and speechless, but not the Usagi way. She seems empty..

Mako puts Ami to sleep in Rei’s bed and gives Mina instructions to go home and that they can deal with everything in the morning. She’ll stay with the others at the temple to keep the from going crazy once during the nigh. Very reluctantly Mina accepts and leaves with Artemis, leaving Rei, Ami, Usagi and Mako at the temple for the night.

The next morning Mina and Artemis make their way to the temple. The anticipation of the girls at each other’s throats eating at them.

Mina opens the door and finds something that just leaves her absolutely speechless.

All the girls are sitting at the low table eating breakfast, chatting like absolutely NOTHING happened the night prior. Usagi super cheerful from eating Mako’s delightful cooking, Rei sipping tea quietly and Ami reading one of Rei’s books while enjoying her breakfast.

Mina has no words and obviously asks Mako what happened. Mako with a very friendly and peaceful expression just says that everything was resolved. Mina attempts to prod the others for clarifications too, but with no different results. “We talked it out” “YOU’RE NOT MAD ANYMORE?!?” “No” “why are you being so weird Mina” “yeah Mina, we’re a team! Come on! We can’t let stuff like that divide us!”

Something’s not right. It can’t be. And fortunately, by an absolute miracle for Mina she takes a peek at Artemis and the same exact expression of ‘something’s is not right here’ is plastered on his face too.

At this point Usagi finally refers directly to Mina very casually “have you seen the silver Crystal, I can’t find it?” (At the end of season 1 Usagi gave it to Mina to keep). Something’s absolutely not right, Mina states she hasn’t seen it lately and makes an excuse to leave, Mako raising at the same time, a way more serious expression on her face, repeating the princesses’ question. At this point both Mako and Ami looking at Mina with eye peering through her, Mina and Artemis making a mad dash for the door, running as far away from the temple as they can, Ami and Mako right on their heels.

Artemis separates from Mina, stating he knows something that could help them, but that’s he has to leave Mina to deal with the situation alone for the time being. Agreeing Sailor Venus has a chase with across the streets of Tokyo, both Mercury and Jupiter on hot pursuit, while Usagi and Rei slowly walk the same direction.

The real enemy of season 2 is Princess Serenity, being reawakened within Usagi’s body, the trauma of losing Luna being the last straw Serenity needed to shove Usagi in the backseat. The rest of the senshi, especially Mako and Ami have also sort of reawakened, but as hollowed soldier powered by the will of the Serenity and the Crystal. Sailor Venus being immune to the “control” cause of the deal her and Serenity made in the their previous life, preserving Venus’ soul inside Minako (here, toward the end), while Sailor Mars is temporarily controlled, but not fully cause she died in season 1. This unexpected course of events braking the connection of the silver Crystal to her body and reincarnated soul. She will break out the spell and escape joining Mina to fight Serenity, Mercury and Jupiter and bring their friends back.

Tho they aren’t alone, as Artemis returns after a small absence, bringing back our favorite lesbians Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus, whose whereabouts and goals are unknown for the time being, but due to the dire situation they are in, questions will come later.

The season will resolve with Mina being able to permanently kill Serenity’s soul and being Usagi back (all while bettering Venus’ soul and the temptation to kill Usagi, knowing there has to be another way to stop Serenity without killing the body) shattering her sword in the process and freeing Mercury and Jupiter who have been under Serenity’s control all this time and have being fighting Uranus and Neptune.

TLDR for hc SEASON 2:

Ail and An are forced to confront the senshi after the first season of living as regular humans who secretly fed on energy. The senshi wan to kill them, as well as An, but Usagi and Ail just want peace. They resolve it and Ail and An get to continue living on Earth as normal people with some restrictions on attacking people for energy.

While all that was happening, the girls start to bleed aspects of their senshi selves into the human forms (ie Ami’s blue hair is poking out of her natural civilian black hair and so on). Luna dies in a car accident while being distracted by Pluto, the girls discover her and Ami violently accuses Rei of withholding the information of her death to her (Rei saw her dying in a vision but didn’t say anything to anybody, cause all her other visions never came true).

A violent ruffle goes down, and Mina is instructed to leave the temple to let the waters cool. She comes back the next morning to find them all eerily serene and quiet and sensing something is wrong she runs away. The rest of the senshi and Usagi, now having been taken over by Serenity. Rei manages to break free from the control and joins Mina, who has now the hold of the mysterious Uranus and Neptune and they all set out to stop Serenity.

There is an alternate timeline where Sailor Galaxia is Sailor Moon, and Kousagi (with chibi chibi coloring) is Sailor Chibimoon.

The mascots of the series are Perle, Diana Fairy, and the pink cat from Parallel Sailor Moon. Many random protaganists/villians and characters switch roles/apperances with each other in this universe, and it is not always the role you'd expect as sometimes the bad characters don't always swap with the good characters. The characters have the original personality of their roles, but retain most of their look. It is like they are cosplaying as the other characters, but still look like themselves in some regards, the inner and outers keep some of their style with their swaps. They have the height and most of the character traits or story roles of the roles that they play.

The opposito senshi switch roles with the inner senshi, retaining a lot of their look.

The Sailor Quartet become the outer senshi, and appear more like the outer senshi in their uniforms.

Many of the items swap with each other, such as transformation wands and special items like the computer and Sailor Moon's transformation pen- they switch function. The pen becomes a communicator, with holographic projection.

Many characters from the movies have their characters swapped with other characters, Badyian becomes Nehelenia for instance- it is not just baddies becoming characters that are good. The universe is called the Sailor Dreams Theater, because it is not like a direct mirror universe and aspects of the world are different. Some characters are even the same, like Phobos and Deimos. Though other side characters (Like Umino) get swapped with look alikes, and others get alternate colors. It is a surreal dreamlike world, looking a little like Utena's world in backgrounds. The world is a weird mix match of niche and random Sailor Moon and regular SM, feeling like a weird bootleg. Oh and theme song is the PGSM theme instead.

The media that is used for the most of the universe is the anime, movies, Sailor Moon another story, and some aspects and characters of Sailor Moon manga. The characterization is mostly of the 90s anime, but it takes some insperation from the manga concepts and the PGSM versions. For example, the Sailor Guardians wear Sailor Uniforms that are like the prototype designs and there's a hair color change as Galaxia!Usagi's hair goes from blond to her usual colorful hair. All Sailor hair changes color in their civillian form. And the inners have a mix of their PGSM and anime characteristics when it comes to their civillian personalities.

Sailor Earth and the Crystal Senshi and Firelord Katara both sound interesting, could you tell me a little about them?

¡Absolutely!

Fire Lord Katara is a slight AU fic where, after the Agni Kai in the finale, Zuko ends up in a coma for a hot minute, leaving something of a succession crisis as to who will take the throne. As it turns out, Katara. Katara takes the throne and becomes Fire Lord because technically she’s the one who defeated Azula in an Agni Kai. What follows is her trying to navigate the royal court, dismantle the bender’s prisons, and pay reparations to other nations without getting overthrown, at least until Zuko’s recovered enough to take back the throne. Iroh, Ty Lee, Mai, Suki, Hama, and maybe Azula are all involved. There’s not actually much romance, mostly just Katara trying to make the best of a tough situation while being her awesome self. A story of politics, trauma, unexpected friendships, Katara badassery, dismantling the prison system, and tea. Technically more of an outline than anything else at the moment.

Sailor Earth and the Crystal Senshi is a Sailor Moon roleswap between the Inner Senshi and Heavenly Kings with a bit of mystery. Mamoru rescues a talking cat one day who discovers that for some reason he is the guardian of the moon, even though by all accounts this shouldn’t be possible. Even more mysteriously, four other teens manifest the power of the other planets despite being boys, and there’s a weird blonde vigilante that keeps shooting top hats at people, plus reports of four young women going missing whose descriptions match up with the generals they’re battling… it takes more inspiration from the old anime than the new one, but it’s not a beat-for-beat retread, and there’s a lot of exploration of gender roles and identity going on in between everyone trying to figure out why all these people have the wrong powers. A story of transgenderism, dysphoria, questioning one's assigned roles, confusing feelings, fabulous crossdressing, mystery, and THE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP Also I changed the ages to make it a bit less squicky. Here’s an excerpt:

Masato set his drink down and looked at the binder again. The picture stared up at him, that stoic face inscrutable. He’d reread all the information over and over again, and all he’d gotten out of it was a headache.

“Heeeey!” a shout made him look up. Usagi stood across the street, waving at Masato. Behind her stood Jirou, both of them carrying several brightly colored shopping bags.

“What’s going on?” before long, the duo was seated across from him, setting their bags down in the cafe floor, and Jirou was asking him questions. “Weren’t you supposed to be paying off that shrine today?”

“That’s already done,” Masato waved him off. “Something more important’s come up. Where's Mamoru?”

"He was called in to work today," Jirou shrugged. "Some flash-in-the-pan diva idol showed up at the studio and they needed all hands on deck to record a music video."

"I wanted to come along, but he said no," sighed Usagi. She looked up with a dreamy expression on her face. "Could you imagine being an idol and having all those adoring fans?"

"I don't need to," Jirou grinned haughtily. A bit of his model's grace found its way into his pose. "It's good of you to keep imagining, though. Everyone should have at least a few impossible fantasies."

Usagi smacked him with one of her shopping bags. She turned her attention towards the spread of paper that Masato had laid out over the table. "What's all this?"

"Paperwork for the shrine," answered Masato. "I was reviewing how many people worked there to see how many people to compensate."

"How interesting," said Jirou, rolling his eyes. "I don't suppose you have any of that huge allowance of yours left over to compensate the brave heroes who saved the shrine?"

Masato ignored him and kept talking. "However, I learned that one of the workers there had disappeared a few months ago. The granddaughter of the owner, a young lady who was by all accounts very hard working and dedicated to her job. What's more, she disappeared only a few weeks before the youma attacks began, according to Luna."

Both Usagi and Jirou's expressions grew more serious.

"Hey, what're you implying here?" asked Jirou.

Masato laid down the photo on the table and Usagi immediately snatched it up. Both she and Jirou's eyes widened when they saw who it depicted.

"General Mars?" she gasped. Masato nodded solemnly.

"Wait, but- no, the youma transform their victims all the time, so their leaders-" Jirou curled his hands into fists and let out a cry of frustration. "This is a joke, right?"

"Do you think I'd joke about something like this?" Masato snapped. "We may have been responsible for the death of an innocent girl brainwashed by the Dark Kingdom."

Usagi, looking down, clutched the photo to her chest and asked softly "What do we tell Mamoru?"

"I don't know," he rubbed his fingers against his temples.

"We tell him the truth, obviously," Jirou glared at Masato. "And we ask that stupid cat if she knew about any of this, and if there's a way to turn people back from being generals."

"Yeah, maybe Luna can help!" Usagi said with a sense of renewed hope.

"Maybe," Masato let out a sigh. "But let's just give Mamoru some time before telling him anything, alright? It would be counterproductive to not tell him, but with his work and this new 'General Venus', he already has a lot on his mind. Let's just not put everything on him at once, alright?"

The others agreed that it was already a busy weekend, perhaps they should wait until the end of it to lay this revelation on Mamoru. The stresses of leading a double life were known to all of them. Just focusing on one or the other instead of trying to juggle both was practically a break at this point. A little bit of tedium might have been what all of them needed right now, especially Mamoru.

Elsewhere, Mamoru was being chased by a giant record label youma hurling exploding vinyls at him.

With Tokyo experiencing a crazy heatwave, Usagi cannot seem to be able to cool down. Mamoru is the only person who can bring down her fever, even if it might not be in the most conventional way. This is the first chapter of a collection of unrelated lemons if you want to keep exploring.

One story that became part of the Reveals series but might make more sense here is Impulse by @areptiledysfunction1107 , where mysterious fog from a youma is to blame for Tuxedo Mask's inability to see straight when it comes to a certain blonde.

@cashandprizes has handed me the keys to the kingdom and now that means I get to info-dump about EVERYTHING I've had in mind while designing each and every one of these characters. To start, welcome to...

Laveau's Redacted Design Notes: Bloodbound Edition I

Without further delay, let's get into it.

Darlin's design incorporates elements from their pack since I wanted to visually show similarities between them and the pack by having them share tastes in clothes. It also was me solidifying my HC that the pack rubs their fashion sense off on each other. (David), Darren wears a leather jacket and a belt with a silver buckle; (Asher), they sport a choker and high waisted pants; (Milo), they also wear ripped shirts and share boot colors; (Christian), they both wear gloves.

The floral print on Sam's shirt is actually a Chrysanthemum; It's a flower that carries the symbolic meaning of devoted love, loyalty, happiness, longevity, and joy–appropriate to his role in Darlin's story. More specifically, given the color of his shirt, Sam represents a red Chrysanthemum which also represents deep love and passion. They're also flowers that have medicinal properties too!

Vincent's jumpsuit is designed specifically to reference a mechanic's jumpsuit given his love of cars. The jumpsuit is printed with a rose floral pattern which–in addition to the pearls around his neck(which is queer symbolism)–are symbols of Aphrodite, something I find fitting given the similarities he and the goddess have.*Vincent was also deisgned with the intention of him looking like a fuck boy, his blonde bangs also were meant to reference fangs

I said this on twitter some time ago but Alexis being Persian was something I wanted to run with given how desired Persian women were to the colonizers and outsiders of the country long ago (and still are today), being objectified and simplified without regard to their humanity. Much of her design choices are based on the idea of desire, her likeness to Betty Boop (a heavily sexualised character), her sweater having roses (flowers that represent love and desire), her dress, her balletcore-inspired outfit (being a reference to ballerinas–which fun fact, they used to be used as prostitutes after shows for patrons) are all a part of the larger bit. I also made Alexis a WOC for the specific purpose that anytime a WOC is presented as flawed and beautiful, they are immediately lined up to be femme fatales or villains–call that meta commentary if you want. *again, yes, I'm of the school of thought where we HC Alexis as a flawed person cuz canon ain't saying enough.

Lovely's design is heavily inspired by several gaming references; their post-inversion design includes a sweater that reads "reset", a reference to undertale and fitting regarding the fact that it's a post-inversion design; their pre-inversion hoodie reads "game over" on the front which I will admit is a morbid joke foreshadowing their turning; their color palette is heavily inspired by Raiden Shogun from Genshin Impact; the controller symbols on their sleeves in the pre-inversion design is an obvious playstation reference, and the "NPC" on the sleeves of their post-inversion design is a small nod to the fact that Lovely, at the time of designing, did not feel like a very active listener (still don't, to some degree) so I threw that in there!

Bright Eyes is heavily inspired by the Magical Girl genre of anime; her bikini top has a reference to Senketsu from Kill La Kill and a ribbon tie that resembles a part of Usagi's Sailor Moon uniform; her hair and choker are also inspired by Usagi and her color palette is based on Panty from Panty and Stocking. She is prime black magical girl material™️. *Her design also incorporates eye imagery due to their namesake and the fit is heavily inspired by Aliyahcore.

Quinn's design is littered with Christian religious iconography. His choker and earring are all upside down crosses which are typically regarded as signs of evil, his other hoop earring was intended to draw close to halo (but ehhh, not really) and all of them being silver was a decision based on the facts that A.) Silver is regarded as a pure and holy metal and, B.) Silver is traditionally the weakness of a werewolf–which when contextualized with his involvement with Darlin can be read as him maliciously equipping himself with silver to hurt them or be seen as him being their weakness in some way.

William's design is purely meant to communicate the fact that he is rich, elegant and powerful. For those of you who don't know, braids (especially well done braids) can be a sign of wealth because them shits ain't cheap to put in and best believe, Will has his done by the best in Dahlia. Speaking of symbols of status, use of the gold accessories and ruby are intentionally put there to emphasize his status as the Solaire clan's king. Additionally, Rubies are associated with blood, power and youth as well as acting as talismans of protection.

Sam's alternate design is actually based on a rattlesnake! The many fang shapes in it, the rattlesnake-skinned pattern on the band of his hat, the beads in his hair and the snake tattoo were pretty much dead giveaways. The choice to base him on a rattlesnake was all set in stone by the fact that rattlesnake venom also has healing properties in addition to being dangerous which I found fitting for Sam! *Fun fact: I kept thinking of rattlesnake Jake while I was designing him. That was also the reason he was based on a rattlesnake. LEAVE ME ALONE–

Quinn and Darren both share thorn motifs but in different ways. Quinn's motif is meant to play on my interpretation of him being close to that of a cult leader, someone who reels people in at their most vulnerable and brings them under his allegiance, thus his use of the thorn motif was to be presented as a martyr/anti-christ figure. Darren's use of the thorn motif specifically ties into their guarded personality and affections towards Sam (a rose with thorns). The best part is that the shirt's thorn design, while alluring, also adds to the pattern or scars on his body and on his neck where Darr bit him. They fulfill the idea of both hiding and blending in with his scars to somewhat embolden them in my HC where Quinn uses his pain as a point of pride for attracting others whilst not being vulnerable enough to actually let them see his humanity behind the image he's built up.

Alexis and Darlin share rose motifs solely based on how they presented their affections to Sam. Alexis being having roses as she simply put herself out there as an option for Sam (queue the bachelor reference) and Darren being a rose with thorns (see above). Interestingly enough, Alexis and Vincent have this in common as well as two vampiric royalty who turned their royalty and presented their affections openly towards the people they prospectively were interested in.

Quinn, like Darren, wears a choker and while this initially was meant to push the image of a priest/cult leader, I also used this as a visual similarity to Darlin given their shared history.

Some of the designs contain references to Greek Mythology. Vincent's pearls and rose jumpsuit are symbols of Aphrodite similarly to the patterns on Darren's pants and Alexis' top. Darlin however more so represents Aphrodite Areia/ Aphrodite the Warlike which was Sparta's epithet for her as a war goddess. Lovely's peacock earring is a nod to Hera which becomes interesting when you consider that Lovely's hair is shaped like lightning bolts which is Zeus's symbol.

I honestly couldn’t watch Every Episode in it’s Original Language is Japanese because of thinking the voice of Hynden Walch and Kevin Michael Richardson. So, I wanted to tune a Language dub because I wasn’t able to speak Japanese otherwise, I will tune on the Latin American Spanish dub. I saw 49 episodes on my laptop it was really awesome and I watch the episode when Serena discovers that she is actually Sailor Moon, a Pretty Guardian who fights for love and for justice. She uses her powers to try and rescue her friend Molly Baker from a demon sent out by Jadeite and the episode is awesome.

Usagi hasn’t heard anything from Mamoru since he went off to college. The bun-headed girl is sure she drove him away. Can the guardian of fire convince her otherwise? And what truths may she reveal in the process?

“Oh, Miss Hino, hello.” Mrs. Tsukino said, confused why the raven-haired girl had shown up at her doorstep.

“Hello Mrs. Tsukino. Is Usagi home? She was supposed to meet us at the shrine but she never showed.” Rei asked. This wasn’t the first time this had happened, but, despite the protests of her friends, Rei was done letting it happen. She was gonna pull Usagi out of here whether she liked it or not.

“She is… she’s been hiding in her room a lot lately.” The elder Tsukino said, a look of worry crossing her face.

“May I see her? I think I may know what’s wrong…” Rei said, which was basically a lie as she definitely knew what was wrong.

“By all means.” The mother said, letting Rei in.

Rei made her way up the stairs and to Usagi’s door. Something was already off though… the sign Usagi kept on her door, a sign that Rei had always found adorably charming (even though she’d never admit it)... it was gone. Rei knocked on the door, not even sure what she would say when she saw her. That didn’t seem to be an issue, however, as Usagi wasn’t answering.

“Usagi? You in there? It’s Rei. Open up, bun-head.”

Nothing.

“You didn’t come to the shrine today… again. You know if you keep skipping these study sessions you’re gonna fail out of school.”

Nothing. 

“I mean, not that I really care, but it’d be pretty embarrassing to serve under a queen who didn’t even make it through high school.”

Nothing.

“Dammit Usagi! Open up! This is when you’re supposed to tell me how mean I’m being!”

Nothing.

“Alright, fine! I’m coming in!” Rei shouted, before throwing open the door. Saying the bun-headed girl’s room was messy would be an understatement. It was all but destroyed. Usagi’s bedding, all of which was covered in illustrations of bunny rabbits, was strewn across the room, along with her stuffed animals, volumes of manga, and various other knick-knacks. It took Rei a second to even notice Usagi, who was sitting at her desk in front of a piece of paper, with a pen in hand, “There you are. Jeez, what happened in here?”

“Every… day…” Usagi said softly, not looking up at Rei.

“What?” Rei asked, making her way toward Usagi, being careful not to slip on anything.

“Every day… I’ve written him a letter every day… for three months…” The blonde said, her voice betraying that she had clearly been crying.

“Oh, Usagi…” Rei said, making her way up to the desk and looking over Usagi’s shoulder, to see that the girl had been reduced to writing illegible scribble at this point.

“I mean… I know he said he wouldn’t be able to contact me at first but… just one letter? Just something to let me know he’s thinking of me? That he hasn’t run off with some girl he met in America? Is that so much to ask?” Usagi asked, still not looking at Rei.

“No… of course not, it’s-”

“It’s my fault.” Usagi said, stopping Rei cold.

“... What? What do you mean it’s ‘your fault’? How is it ‘your fault’ that your boyfriend is scum?” Rei asked, not pulling any punches.

“What?!” Usagi exclaimed, finally turning around and facing Rei, “What are you talking about?! Don’t call him-!”

“He has never treated you right! And now he runs off to America and can’t even be bothered to write a letter? I’ll call him whatever I wanna call him!” Rei shouted, her blood boiling.

“You don’t get it… I was always so whiny, and childish, and annoying… I mean, just look at my room… no wonder he would be glad to get away from me… and then when he does, I flood his mail with letters… He…”

“He’s worthless!” Rei shouted as she had not been the fondest of Mamoru for quite some time, but now she was finally able to express some of that disdain.

“Stop saying that! Look at me! Why would he settle for me?! You say it yourself all the time, I’m dumb, and a klutz, and a crybaby, and-”

“SO?! Who cares if you are all those things?! It’s still on him, not you!”

“How can you say that?! How does that make any-?”

“BECAUSE EVEN IF YOU ARE ALL THOSE THINGS I STILL LOVE YOU!” Rei blurted out, unable to stop herself from finally revealing her true feelings. A moment of silence hung in the air, Usagi staring at her wide-eyed before the raven-haired girl finally spoke again.

“I love you because you’re a klutz… and a crybaby… and childish… because those are the things that make you you.” Rei said, taking the other girl’s hands, “And if he doesn’t feel the same way… that’s on him, not you.” 

“You… love me?” Usagi finally squeaked out, looking up at Rei.

“... yes.” She said, pulling her hands back, “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that. I’ll go.”

“No, wait!” Usagi pleaded, grabbing Rei by the wrist to keep her from leaving, “... for how long?”

Rei simply looked away in silence, unable to meet the smaller girl’s gaze, “Years… look, I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have dropped that on you, I just-”

“Please don’t apologize.” Usagi said, moving her hand from Rei’s wrist down to her hand, “... I guess that explains why you’re always so mean to me. It’s because you liiike me.” Usagi teased, a bit of life coming back to her face.

“Yeah yeah, look, we don’t have to talk about-”

“Did you mean all that stuff you said? Y’know… about loving me because of… all that stuff?” Usagi asked timidly, removing her hand from Rei’s and averting her eyes to the ground.

Rei paused for a moment, before gently placing her thumb under Usagi’s chin, directing her face back toward her, “Yes. Every word of it.”

Usagi threw herself into Rei’s chest, wrapping her arms around her and clinging on for dear life, “Can you… can you just hold me for a bit…?”

Rei blushed a bit, not quite sure how to respond, “Usagi, I-”

“Please?” Usagi squeaked out, her face still buried in Rei’s chest.

Rei simply looked down at her, before wrapping her arms around the smaller girl and holding her close, gently stroking her hair, “Okay… okay…”

Once Usagi calmed down a bit, Rei stayed with her until she was sure she was going to be okay. It was then that she finally stood up to take her leave.

“Alright, well… I should get going…”

“Okay Rei… and don’t worry… I’ll be at the shrine tomorrow.” Usagi said with a weak smile, standing up as well to see her out.

“You’d better.” Rei said with a smirk, “And about that other… thing… we don’t have to talk about it again, it doesn’t have to mean anything, we can just-”

“But what if I want it to?” Usagi asked, once again stopping Rei in her tracks.

“I… what?”

“What if…” Usagi began, fidgeting with her hands, “What if I want it to mean something?”

Rei smiled as she looked into the smaller girl’s eyes, “You have… no idea how long I’ve wanted to hear you say that. But you’re… well… vulnerable right now. And I wouldn’t want to take advantage of you.”

“But you’re not! I-”

“Listen.” Rei said firmly, “After some time… if you still feel that way… I would be more than happy to try.” She said, lightly squeezing Usagi’s hand.

“Hmmm… okay.” Usagi said, planting a quick kiss on Rei’s cheek, before pulling back with a smile, “I suppose I can wait a bit.”

Rei blushed lightly from the kiss, already regretting the whole ‘give her some time’ thing as Usagi led her out of the house, but she knew it was the right thing to do.

After they said their goodbyes, Usagi simply watched as Rei left, a small smile appearing on her face.

“Y’know, I really like that girl.” Her mother said, glad to see Usagi finally come out of her room.

“Yeah… me too.”

So yeah, if you couldn’t already tell this is meant to be kind of an alternate take on what happened during Stars.
