I didn't expect that there were people who say that the problems that happened in the show were bc of Vi. But It's good there are people defending her. Are they crazy leave my girl alone!
I mean it's very clear who caused the problem. Jayce bc he made the hextech stones. And Silco later on, but he seems to have become a good person in another universe.
And like the same thing said by a person named Ellie: "Vi's death or rather the child's death stopped Hextech getting green lit"
Bc they saw that this is something that causes people to die, so the council will not approve its manufacture, and Jayce after seeing a dead child will certainly not work on hextech or anything related to magic anymore.
Btw I want to make a post later and talk about my opinion of the show and how this season was not as good as season 1, there are a lot of disappointing and unsatisfying things about it and the writers did not succeed in telling the story well. Especially act 3 was very rushed. Anyway I will not talk more now I will talk about that in the next post
#And in the end instead of these people blaming a fictional character they should blame the writers for making things happen this way.#vi#vi arcane#arcane vi#jinx#powder#jinx arcane#arcane powder#jayce talis#arcane jayce#caitvi#arcane#arcane season 2#arcane league of legends#arcane netflix#league of legends#twitter

I just saw a video saying that while op adored Percy and annabeth she couldn't forgive them for ruining so many lives on their quest for a happy ending?????
She was claiming that because they got to be happy they ruined, Rayna and her sisters life, Bianca and Nico's life, screwed over Calypso, and apparently every other character in the books with an unhappy life.
Like next time just say you didn't understand the story instead of trying to justify weird reasons to not like the main characters.
Because it was not Percy or Annabeth's fault that the choice they made to try and survive quests given to them when they were teenagers by the gods were one of the many things that led to bad circumstances for other characters.
Circe was a bad person and just because working for her was okay right then doesn't mean it would have stayed like that. But also it's incredibly stupid to say that Percy and Annabeth ruined the sisters lives when they were 13 and just trying to survive and find grover.
Calypso wasn't Percy's responsibility. He owed her nothing, it was out of kindness and a desire to make things better that he asked that the gods release her from her punishment. He had no idea that the gods would be petty and not tell her she was free. His not going back to get her because he was "so distracted being with Annabeth" isn't a bad thing because once again he didn't owe Calypso anything, he didn't promise her anything. Stop saying that she's an innocent victim because she was on the island for a reason and it is only due to Percy trying to make things better that Leo could swoop in like a knight in shining armor.
Nico and Bianca. This is probably going to make a lot of Nico fans mad but Percy held no responsibility for what happened to Bianca or Nico . Yes he promised to try and protect her however she made a choice that made it impossible for anyone to help her. She knew that and she still made that choice, something Nico does throughout the main and sequel series. Percy once again owes Nico nothing, he did his best to save Bianca, he tried to help Nico even when he wanted Percy dead, he doesn't owe him anything even if Nico liked him.
Stop blaming Annabeth and Percy for every bad thing that has happened in the Percy Jackson universe. Percy and Annabeth did not go on quests for years, fight two wars and suffer trying to save the world while losing friends and family just for you to say that other characters had it worse and it's their fault.
#rant post#literally people blame percy for so many things that happened#stop blaming these characters#its stupid#they were children#if you want to be mad be mad at the gods or the writer#percy jackon and the olympians#percy jackson#annabeth chase#heros of olympus

I just remembered how excited I was about the Caretaker as a character . . . I thought they were going to slowly reveal their history as a spirit and bond with Solas over the course of the game, that they would have some piercing insight and tragic tale that would help us understand Solas better to save/defeat him. The fact that they only ended up being used to enchant stuff, drop hints, and open doors is a travesty.
#dragon age#veilguard spoilers#datv spoilers#also i miss asking questions what even was that decision other than a way to pay writers and voice actors less#one of the things i can't forgive rook as a character for is that they by and large do not ask about anything#that scene where b*llara is finally getting info from the archive and rook just smiles and walks out??? WTF#and before someone says “don't blame rook” yeah i don't i blame the way they're written#bioware critical#veilguard critical#i wanted to ask the caretaker all about their thousands of years of existence

Tumblr already showed me twice a post where OP implies that Bruce made the choice to not help Jaybin when he was attacked by an angry mob in Legends, so I had to check, and look at that, they were lying.
Context: the general population has been turned against superheroes.
An angry mob does attack Robin, and what is Batman's reaction? To come to the rescue! He even immediately calls him "son", switching to an endearing term to reassure him. However, Batman is hit in the eyes with a bottle of perfume and blinded, as his attention was on his boy. Gordon tries to get him to leave, but he refuses because he can't leave his boy behind, and when Gordon tells him that his men will take care of Robin, Batman is like "I don't trust your men with my son". Batman is forced out of here, he is so pissef, and he is called "arrogant" by the cops there.
This man trusts ONE cop, and it's Jim Gordon, that's it. And people dare to tell me Bruce isn't an acab believer. He grew up in Gotham and his parents were murdered when he was 8, of course he believes in acab. That's why he was so against his son becoming one.
Anyway, later on, Jason is in the hospital (Bruce was right, Gordon's men didn't do shit), and Bruce is pissed at the situation. However, Jason feels guilty and ashamed, and Bruce immediately goes to comfort him, reminding him he isn't at fault for getting beat up, that Bruce is proud of him and that he is a great Robin. And when Jason compares himself to Dick, Bruce stops that too, bringing up that Dick also had less glorious moments like this. And again, Bruce switches to "son" and "Jay", which convey affection in the goal of comforting his boy.
In the end, Bruce leaves his son safe at the hospital, resolved to not obey the president and get to the bottom of this. Later, Jason decides he cannot stay there and must help, even if it kills him. And people dare say that he wasn't reckless.
Anyway, the other thing about this, apart from Bruce didn't walk away WILLINGLY from Jason being attacked by an angry mob, is that as awful this is, the writers never intended this to be a traumatic experience for Jason. Of course, it would be normally, but it's just a plot point here to get Robin away from Batman while he works with the other heroes. Damn, there isn't even a follow-up to Jason leaving the hospital, he doesn't show up in the next issues to help.
Sometimes, especially with older stories, comics' events don't matter as much as you think they do. If you want to re-imagine them as impacting for the characters, that's your choice, but let's not act as if they were intended to be. Because I saw that moment being used as a comparison to Under The Red Hood, to be like "see Bruce keeps abandoning Jason", and like, calm down with the shortcuts. Because you are making that up, on your own, with what was given to you by different writers over the decades that didn't communicate with each others or agree on the characters.
#bruce wayne#batman#jason todd#robin#dc comics#my ramblings#a pet peeves of mine in this fandom is how people cannot understand that the writers' intentions are and how they matter#like they blame everything on the character as if they are a constant and/or make their own decisions#they are people behind the media you consume think about them for two seconds#I'm tired of posts bashing Bruce for saying or doing something that could easily be put on the writers#like Bruce yelling at Damian for skipping patrols to help at the hospital as if Bruce hasn't shown time and time again#that he wants those kids to stay safe more than anything and if they don't want to be vigilantes that's great#But no let's bash Bruce instead of the PEOPLE WRITING HIM#they want conflicts so they create conflicts and the bigger picture doesn't matter but it exists#I don't feel like I explained myself well words are so hard#op had already blocked me anyway probably because I criticized Jason in the past

(Basic context is that AU of Duel Desinties where the phantom impersonates Phoenix to get him found guilty of Clay's murder, I talk more under the cut abt it jkhlj)
-Basically meant to be a parallel to turnabout trump, cause if you can have ONE boss get found guilty of murder, why not a second one?
-OK basically: everything in DD happens normally until like- a day before clays murder, Phoenix gets yoinked by the phantom somehow (he is still alive, just being held captive), Phantom is still Fulbright, but they've decided to be silly goofy (target Phoenix and get him found guilty of murder, escape police custody and then murder phoenix and make it seem like Phoenix accidentally died while on the run, thats why they didn't kill phoenix right away unlike the real Fulbright) there is an imposter amo-
-I dont have the logistics as to how this affects solving Metis's murder, and how it effects what evidence is used n whatnot and turnabout for tomorrow as a whole, so im just going nuts HGJKHLJ
-Originally I was actually imagining this taking place during turnabout for tomorrow and I wanted that case to be apollo v klavier instead of phoenix and edgeworth and thats why klav is in here instead of Simon (I decided that Simon got badly injured and couldn't stand in court for the retrial, so klavier was asked to step in)
-The courtroom bombing still happens the same way it does normally, but Apollo decides to take up the case again instead of taking a leave, instead of like, you know, healing from the traumatic event that just happened, turnabout countdown still happens as well
-Apollo and Athena do not find out about the phantom's existence until well after this trial, so they have no idea that Phoenix could've possibly been replaced, though simon, after hearing about the trial, might be suspicious about whether or not that was the real Phoenix
-The Phantom had been not only keeping an eye on Simon for a while, but was also stalking Phoenix and Edgeworth after they both started looking into UR-1, so they were able to impersonate phoenix so well that not even his own daughter thought that anything was up (though while Trucy did find him a *little* bit off, but she figured that it might've been the bombing that caused him to act ever so slightly weird, so she didn't pay much mind to it until she heard about his confession in court and realized it might've been because he possibly, ya know, killed someone)
-it's pretty much just switching Athena being framed for murder with Phoenix, and instead of the trial ending on a cliffhanger, it continues on (probably with Klavier insisting on it) ending with soloman being found innocent and Phoenix being declared guilty
-There's a couple days inbetween the end of the cosmic turnabout and the start of turnabout for tomorrow, so Athena, Apollo and Trucy all get a little bit to process the fact that "oh god my boss/my dad killed someone" (simons execution date is pushed back a bit in this au) and they probably get to talk with Klavier and eventually a lil bit with Simon after he gets out
-Im not sure how it all winds down in turnabout for tomorrow (Phoenix escaping and being at large is basically the perfect cover for the phantom to resume being fulbright for that trial) but they do eventually realize that the phoenix who confessed wasn't the real one and now there's a search on going to find out where the real one is being held captive, hes fineeee just ready to take a week long nap and a good vacation (along with every other waa member)
-I dont have anything else to add on rn but if you want to add something or just throw in a scenario feel free to!! this idea has been bouncing around my head for like a month now and Im very happy to finally show yall it
#ace attorney#ace attorney dual destinies#apollo justice#athena cykes#klavier gavin#phoenix wright#copycat au#indys art#apollo faints like- 0.5 seconds after the verdict is called which is very understandable#Apollo and Athenas horrible no good very bad court trial#and klavier isn't fairing any better tbh HJGKHL#no one is doing well at all and it gets worse before it gets better hjgkhl#Im both very excited but also TERRIFED posting this#I rarely try to actually write actual serious dialogue for characters cause im not a writer-so im hoping it's like- halfway decent HGJKH#I may be anxious as hell but Im going to be very brave and post this instead of- not doing that HJGKHL#I also tried to push myself a bit with this one so I included more panels to work on and coloured it#I like how it came out though!!#I hope u enjoy <3#also if something doesn't make sense blame it on the fact that I wrote the caption and these tags at like 2:30 am

hey you!!!
wanna hear one of my fic ideas for a canon rewrite that will absolutely shatter your heart????
yeah...
you've been warned..
.
TW!!!
dr//g ab*se, attempted su!c!de
⠀
alhaitham attempted to overdose after the argument with kaveh over their thesis.
.
they basically screamed each others throats off that day; they've argued over their differing ideals before but it was never this bad, and the fight eventually got a bit physical, and there was a lot of hairpulling, scratching, pulling each other up by the collar, because they weren't just arguing about the thesis anymore, they were mad at each other. until alhaitham pointed out kaveh's fatal flaw, how his altruism is going to fail him one day, and kaveh, who can't handle the truth, yanks at alhaithams hair again, telling him to fuck off, that he wishes he never met him, all through pained, angry tears. and then, he lets go and leaves, bolting out the front door and not even bothering to close it.
it was one of the first times in alhaitham's life that he had ever let his emotions get the better of him, and he watched kaveh run out of the door, panting and shaking, tears prickling the corners of his eyes out of pure, unadulterated frustration. and alhaitham realizes at this moment that he'd lost someone. again.
oh yes, alhaitham's all alone again!! no one cares about him anymore!! he'd just lost the last person in the world who gave a damn!! silly alhaitham!! all because you're you. because you had to open your mouth again. because you had to say something. all you wanted was to help, but nobody understands that. nobody ever will. to them, you're just a cold, calculated, arrogant, cocky, bastard. and look what you've done now.
the thought breaks him, and he crumbles to the ground in what can only be described as a meltdown, a very violent one. vases are shattered, kitchen wear chucked across the room, books thrown around carelessly, all while he screams curses into the air, directed at no one, maybe at Kusanali, maybe at Celestia, who knows, but he screams anyway, bordering on babbles as he stumbles to his room, dizzy and distressed and grabs the bottle of prescription drugs (working on what kind of drug currently). It's not full, it's almost empty actually, only about 10 tablets at the bottom, but alhaitham, hands shaking, laughs incredulously at himself, and eats all of them.
or at least: tries to...
the commotion he'd made upset his neighbours. initially, they were storming over to his house with the Matra beside them to have him taken care of but upon arrival, they were horrified. The matra with them practically tackled alhaitham, making him spit out the 3 pills he had in his mouth when they found him in his room; he had already taken 5. they dragged him to the bimarstan as fast as he could, the neighbours following in terror and worry.
alhaitham was saved that day and the memory still haunts him. he was so clouded with emotion he'd lost all sense of what he was doing and just felt, and it scared him how his own feelings took control of him. At that point, alhaitham only closed up even further, basically forcing on his poker face and shoving down his feelings because he never wanted to feel so vulnerable again. he doesn't want to feel. it hurts to feel. strong feelings only bring pain. more pain than alhaitham could bear.
so alhaitham chose to hide this story, he never told anyone about it, not even a single detail. but kaveh, who moved back in eventually and now lived with alhaitham for about a year since their argument, was tidying up when he found a bottle of pills under alhaitham's bed, it was practically empty, only 2 pills remained.
concerned, he questions alhaitham about it later and it was the first time he'd seen alhaitham genuinely look scared. when kaveh explained he'd found it under his bed, alhaitham snatched away the bottle and disposed of it in the trash, cursing himself for not having found it last year when the incident happened and couldn't believe it had been there the whole time.
kaveh isn't an idiot, he pieced it together the moment he saw alhaitham's reaction. he just stands there, completely speechless and horrified. all he can say is "when..?"
and alhaitham, for the first time since their school years, responds in a shaky, miserable voice, "a year ago."
and kaveh is stunned, just staring at alhaitham, who seemed so unreachable when he moved in, suddenly looking so heartbreakingly vulnerable.
he doesn't say anything.
kaveh just hugs him, buries alhaitham's face into his shoulder and hugs him. and he swears he can hear soft, weak sounds coming from the scribe, and he swears the fabric over his shoulders became damp, but he doesn't say anything.
he just holds him.
i'm sorry. come at my throat all you'd like.
⠀
⠀
⠀
#no im not trying to mischaracterize them#my point is that alhaitham hides his true feelings so much BECAUSE of how strongly he feels in this very moment#i think he is at first a much shyer character in his student years#gaining a bit of a backbone when he becomes a true scholar#and then completely shutting himself off after this#after this happened; kaveh and alhaitham grew much closer with each other and began working on their communication#no: alhaitham did not tell kaveh the full story because he knows kaveh will only blame himself more and that's the last thing he wants#he just tells kaveh it was because he was having a breakdown over the events#just like how kaveh spent that night getting hella fucking drunk#i love angst#genshin impact#genshin#alhaitham#kaveh#kavetham#haikaveh#haikavetham#haikavehtham#kaveh x alhaitham#alhaitham x kaveh#angst#comfort#genshin fanfic#fanfic#writers on tumblr#ao3 writer#im sorry im feeding you all with this#i want them to go through the most heart shattering angst known to man and then slowly go through the process of healing together bcz yes.#people talk so much abt kaveh's side of things#why dont we hear it from alhaithams??? :3

idk tommy is boring to me and also too sarcastic he needs to go
have you, like, ever watched the show? literally everyone on there is sarcastic. every episode reeks of sarcasm in one way or another. i fully do not understand why every character gets to be sarcastic except for tommy, apparently? i fully have to believe it's people simply being mad that tommy is not eddie. oh, and, btw, eddie is very sarcastic. i beg of you to watch the show.
on the "he is boring" comment. have you flown into a hurricane for your former co-workers/acquaintances, apparently without question? do you fly on your days off for fun, do muay thai, go to sporting events, karaoke trivia, pickup basketball games, and work on cars? tommy did all that with eddie in like the 2 weeks he'd known the guy! He got a boyfriend between dropping eddie off at home (or checking on him or something) and starting a shift!
also, i'm going to add the reasons why he very much shouldn't go: he's a flawed character with a less-than-stellar past who has clearly worked on himself (which we even saw during the begins episodes back in season 2), he shows that people do have the ability to grow and change and become better, he shows tf up for buck in a way that i've never seen before, he didn't even expect or want an apology from buck after buck made that ridiculous "hot chicks" comment. i assume buck didn't invite him to the wedding in enough time to get the day off, so he was on standby, and he still came to a bachelor party instead of resting at home. he showed up to the wedding in his turnouts because he wanted to be there for buck! he listens to buck, asks questions, speaks openly and honestly about his own jealousy issues, and matches buck's freak.
#bucktommy#911#tommy kinard#evan buckley#also he's fake#so like blame the writers if you hate a character#and ffs to the people who comment stupid shit on instagram you HAVE GOT to know you look like an absolute idiot#its a fuckin tv show#if you're getting so much agony from a character that you can't bare to listen to them#stop watching

There’s an ethical question in Star Trek I’ve seen several people here talk about that I’ve thought about a lot. Basically, what are the ethics of having a romantic or sexual relationship with a non-sentient holographic version of a real person? This issue is brought up several times in canon, but never dealt with well, in my opinion. The main canon discussions of this topic that I remember (and it’s possible I forgot something) are in Booby Trap (TNG) where Geordi has a very brief romantic relationship with a holographic version of a real woman he’s never met, in Hollow Pursuits (TNG) where Barclay presumably has romantic/sexual relationships with extremely out of character holographic versions of Deanna and Beverly, in Meridian (DS9) where a guy wants Quark to sell him a holographic version of Kira to have sex with, and in Human Error (VOY) where Seven has a semi-long-term romantic and sexual relationship with a holographic version of Chakotay.
So, first of all, I don’t think that any of those instances mentioned are morally okay. Booby Trap is the most complicated case morally speaking since, to my memory, Geordi didn’t intentionally initiate anything romantic, though he didn’t stop it once it started either. I don’t want to imply that what Geordi did is morally as bad as the other examples I’m discussing, especially since Geordi is the only character of color being discussed here and his actions are not really equivalent in intention or impact to the other characters’. As an episode, Booby Trap doesn’t seem to have a clear idea of whether or not what Geordi is doing is unethical. In fact, it felt to me as if that question wasn’t something that occurred to the writers at all (until Galaxy’s Child, but that’s a whole other thing and the hologram portion of it is arguably the least messed up thing there, so I’m ignoring it in relation to this topic). Hollow Pursuits does portray what Barclay does negatively, but I feel like the episode is much more concerned with the negative emotional effects this has for Barclay rather than for Deanna and Beverly. Meridian, from what I remember, is the only episode to portray this situation as definitively bad, and Kira is portrayed as justified in being angry. However, the episode is a mess in other ways and does not explore the topic with nuance, making light of it with humor when I think it needed to be taken more seriously. Human Error is in some ways the most baffling case here because what Seven does is portrayed almost positively, as something that is a potentially good step in Seven’s “social development”. Apparently, there is no thought given to what Chakotay would think of the situation. I’ve seen people suggest that the narrative and fandom treatment of Seven versus the other characters is a gendered double standard, which I do think makes sense.
But the problem here isn’t having a sexual/romantic relationship with a hologram, the problem is that the person didn’t consent to having their holographic image used this way. There’s obviously nothing wrong with having sex or a relationship with a hologram not based on anyone’s image, or based on the image of someone who gave clear consent to have their image used in that way. But using someone’s image this way without their consent is pretty obviously analogous to making nonconsensual porn of someone. Do the ethics of this situation change if the hologram is of a historical figure? What about a famous person who is still alive? I don’t necessarily have answers here, but I do think the situation can become more complicated.
And then there’s another factor to consider – is the sexual/romantic relationship the biggest issue here? In the cases of Hollow Pursuits and Human Error, Barclay and Seven’s simulations of the crew are much more extensive than just the romantic/sexual portions. Would it have been all right for Barclay to create potentially offensive and demeaning holographic versions of his crewmates if there was no romantic/sexual component? Would it be okay for Seven to recreate a version of every Voyager crew member and live out an intricate alternate life with them without any of their consent if she never had romantic/sexual relationships with any of them? Is it any less a violation of someone’s rights to use their image without consent for, say, a propaganda campaign for an issue they disagree with, or a story that portrays their holographic version as a horrible person? That second scenario is the plot of the Voyager episode Author Author. This episode seems to take the moral stance that it’s bad for the Doctor to use the images of his fellow Voyager crew members to portray horrible characters, but there are other questions it doesn’t raise. Would it have been okay for the Doctor to use their images without consent if he had portrayed their holographic versions positively? What is the line between an acceptable and unacceptable usage of another person’s image without their consent? Is it ever okay to use a person’s holographic image without their consent? Is such consent implied when a person agrees to holographic scans of their body? What exactly is one consenting to when they consent to have a holographic version of themself created? I don’t necessarily have answers to these questions, I just wish any of these episodes had explored these issues with more nuance. And I do think that it’s important to consider extending the question of consent here beyond sex and romance.
#star trek tng#star trek ds9#star trek voy#i do not mean any of this to be an attack on geordi seven barclay or the doctor as characters#i think all of this is more reflective of biases on the part of the writers than anything else#and it’s hard to place complete blame on particular characters when the moral stances of the episodes are so murky#lane posts#lane's misc meta

Y’know. Anakin was a real asshole in Ahsoka’s hallucination.
Like. She mentions something about what she’ll be able to teach her padawan one day, since all she’s being taught is how to be a soldier, and Anakin’s like “teaching’s not all it’s cracked up to be”
And like. Asshole move. And Ahsoka rightfully calls him out on it. And he goes on the whole “uuuh I was joking. Lighten up.” Literally a complete jackass.
But beyond how he answered the question, it’s a valid complaint Ahsoka is bringing up! Anakin’s teaching her how to live or die. But Ahsoka wants to be taught how to be a jedi.
What happens after the war is over (order 66 never happens) and she now has to navigate a galaxy without a war? The Jedi take teaching very seriously there’s no greater honor than teaching a padawan. And she’s not being accurately taught, so she will not be able to pass anything on to the next generation.
But Anakin brushes it aside because he simply does not respect her or her wishes. Like. He never wanted a padawan, despite teaching being foundational to the Jedi. And he only took ahsoka in because he started to like her and became attached to her. He doesn’t care about jedi legacy, not really. So he brushes her comment off with a joke.
But in the rest of the vision… idk it didn’t feel like we were supposed view Anakin as entirely wrong here. He wasn’t in the right, he was definitely channeling Vader and being an ass, but he was basically the reason Ahsoka survived the fall, right? Bc he was making her choose life? When Ahsoka wins against him it’s sort of like she’s both learned his lesson and moved beyond him. And then for the rest of the season he’s only talked about in positive ways.
And like. That one line ahsoka said was really powerful in relation to the entire point of the show. What does she have to pass onto her own padawan (Sabine) if she wasn’t properly trained herself? That is, perhaps, the only valid plot question asked in the entire show. And it doesn’t get an answer. It’s never even brought up again.
#I have now learned Dave filoni wrote the entire series#so I am able to say now with absolute positivity that he’s a shit writer#I had been blaming the issues that the writers went on strike for#but no it’s just filoni being a terrible writer I guess?#I mean. none of the character issues are ever really resolved#we have no reason to believe ahsoka is ready to be a master now#we have no real understanding of WHY Sabine unlocked her force powers and shit (not how it works but whatever)#Sabine never learns her lesson about letting thrawn come back#Ahsoka doesn’t get anything really resolved with Anakin#she just acts like he was never Vader and that he was a great master#when we SEE in her vision he was not#idk it’s like every character plot point was dropped#nothing happened in the first half of the show#the dark side girl had a half rebellion but we got no emotion or background from her#it was just… a pointless show#nothing was accomplished#star wars#anti ahsoka#anti anakin skywalker

Well-written fic where all the bat clan members and their relationships are written with love and care. Except Jason, who is a plot device and is stuck with the Bad Victim Angry Unjustified characterization.
#the catalysis for the plot and all the introspection and drama that forms the meat of it#and the Big Bad who they can feel better than and a sense of accomplishment in taking down in the end#hnnng#vent#batsalt#i won’t blame the writer though bc that’s what DC was going for#canon was adjusted to be more consistent with who the characters were meant to be#and Jason was meant to be a negative example

#ok rant which drove me to make this incoming :#if the writers weren't allergic to good writing and logic this situation wouldn't be happening in the first place#because surely the guy who spent twenty + years hunting night furies would know about their ability to disappear#even if he didn't. experience of hunting the fastest dragon in their world and being that smart means he would've dodged hiccup#also. the whole hiccup taking off his leg during the fall thing. doesn't grimmel have two hands#like what was stopping him from grabbing hiccup again. or maybe i'm just stupid and need to rewatch the movie (i won't)#but grimmel got lobotomized right before the exodus scene so i can't really blame it on him#no stupid deaths we die like gná from god of war ragnarok#the last part of this movie frustrates me so much because. it would be so good in a different context#the armada battle has such good cinema/choreography but it's constantly brought down by hiccup & astrid being the epic girlbosses -#who stomp over the armies like they're not fighting soldiers with ton of combat experience while h&a are literal sticks#not to mention even the generals of said armies are treated like weak jokes#suffering from main character syndrome there i see#ok rant over#hiccup#hiccup haddock#grimmel#grimmel the grisly#httyd#httyd 3#how to train your dragon#how to train your dragon: the hidden world#httyd criticism#shitpost

Fans who dunk on kataang as a ship because Katara was written flatly post OG series really grind my gears. As if her marrying Aang and having a family with him was the root cause of the LoK writers sidelining her when her peers still got to be way more invloved in the story.
I will be the first to admit that Katara's initial goals and characterization got quite lost post OG series. In a way, she was only reduced to a healer and her accomplishments outside of mothering children with Aang and banning bloodbending are not shared with the audience. For the first season of LoK, I think this is fine. This is not Katara's story anymore and her speech to Korra at the beginning of the season is her passing the torch to the next Avatar to have her own adventures. Katara at that point is basically a nice cameo. We're not supposed to think that this sliver of her life which Korra sees is all that's important about her.
This does not hold water in future seasons when it's revealed that Toph and Zuko are still alive and both have more active roles in the plot, whereas Katara did not have an active role in plot lines she should have been more involved with (water tribe civil war, for example). To some fans, this reduces the little that we do see of Katara's character in LoK to only being those parts, rather than just pieces of a more realized elder from the perspective of someone younger (Korra) who doesn't know her whole story.
The way that people blame her marrying Aang on the way her overall character was handled is so baffling to me. Do these fans honestly think she would have escaped that fate for certain if she had married Zuko or someone else, or stayed single?
#atla#lok#avatar the last airbender#legend of korra#katara#kataang#lok writers: *can't continue to write a complex female character consistently*#some fans: IT'S HER FICTIONAL HUSBAND'S FAULT#truly baffling#this post kind of has two theses my bad#tldr: the lok writers would have sidelined katara regardless of her canon endgame ship. pleae do not blame aang he has no agency

#shit this is dumb but i'm actually getting triggered by some of the 'Eddie is unquestionably straight!' discourse I'm seeing#i know. in my head. that everyone is talking about a fictional character who is a totally disctinct entity to me.#but like the thing is. either Eddie will be queer or he won't be. arguing about the evidence is a fundamentally useless activity.#because it isn't ABOUT the evidence. it's about what story the writers want to tell and both versions are equally possible.#and meanwhile all i keep hearing is 'provide evidence to demonstrate this character could be queer'#'that evidence isn't substantial enough. show me more evidence.'#'that evidence is actually homophobic. provide more evidence.'#like it doesn't matter how much evidence i show you because you fundamentally do not want to believe this character is queer.#and my brain has decided to react to this the same way it did when I was 16#and my parents were telling me they needed more evidence to believe *I* was queer#obviously these are fundamentally different situations and no one is to blame for my brain doing this thing#but equally obviously trying to argue my case for queer Eddie is a fucking terrible idea#so I'll be stepping away from that conversation at least for the time being

hi pasta :) hope your week is going well so far !!
i dunno if you’ve spoken about this or been asked before (i apologise if you have) but i was just wondering how you always get matt’s characterisation so spot on?? if i didn’t know any better, i’d have thought you wrote the show. i can literally always picture him doing/saying the stuff you write <333
😭😭😭 This is like, an AMAZING compliment oh my god, thank you so much!
As for the question I'm not sure if I've talked about it before but ironically seeing it in my ask box triggered a discussion with sis. Like, I know there are folks who have a different take on Matt than mine. That's valid! So I don't want to be like... 'I did the research and delved and etc etc' because they do too. But eventually me and sis arrived at a conclusion that it's a few combos of things that makes Matt easy for me to click with:
A lot of psych classes in college that ironically I've used more for writing than anything else. This helped me understand some of how Matt's background of abandonment and trauma would potentially affect him and influence his coping techniques and behavior. I like learning psych stuff in general so that all wound up being an influence. I'll always recommend digging into this when working with characters!
I've watched Daredevil over and over and over and over and the more I've rewatched, the more I wind up picking up on new things and analyzing what Matt is thinking or feeling (bless Charlie for giving Matt so many little hints and fidgets and subtle touches of what Matt's internally feeling). This includes interviews, behind the scenes stuff, anything breaking down the why of Matt. I'm familiar with him at this point.
There are certain parts of Matt's character that I relate to incredibly strongly as a disabled person with chronic pain raised in the church, and also as someone who went through a long lonely period of depression where I felt very isolated, and then was afraid when I did finally make friends that they'd leave me. So. There's always an element with Matt that's like, 'ah I get it', this sense of resonation. I feel like that natural click with Matt really helped me when writing him, cause... been there, get the motivation, also dude needs to cry more and let that stress out, trust me.
This sounds weird but me and my sis love to break characters down, rip them apart to examine their insides. We love our favorite characters and talking about all their wholesome or badass elements, but we also gd love and have fun dissecting flaws, fuckups, the shadow self, character trauma, are they the asshole, is EVERYONE the asshole, what does this mean when he did this or that. The whole Pasta clan is immersed in that - Dad was a theatre major so got a lot of practice, Mom's loved lit forever, and we all have this tendency, so I got very comfortable very early with taking characters apart in a really honest way to figure out how and why they tick and what the writer/actor is trying to tell you. And since we've all seen Daredevil, and dad has also read a lot of the earlier comics, we've all more than once metaphorically laid Matt out on the table like a frog and dissected his character. I feel like having someone who's not only willing to talk about these layers with you, but also comfortable enough with you to kinda push back and go 'Or what if he was doing it because of this' or 'Ok yeah you love him but he was actually being the asshole here because *valid reason*' is important. Get you some allies who love to know why characters tick!
So basically lots of reading, really enjoying picking characters apart with fam, and familiarity, all mixed up in a bucket of 'Ooooh poor thing, I've been there and that was not fun. You really need therapy and maybe some antidepressants.'
#daredevil#basically i blame psychology courses and a family where we all like digging into characters and obsessive rewatches#and also the way i've been there if you subtract the Vigilante stuff#he is a very very special character to me that's helped me process a lot of my own shit and trauma#every once in a while as a writer you wind up finding a character that just... clicks#(in real life i'm frequently foggy tho i won't lie like that is my vibe on a good day)
