I found this on my notes and this is so Regulus (I am regulus).
He just wants to be seen as something else than the rude Black brother, but he can’t make himself change enough so people stop looking at him that way. But at one point he meets someone who can see right through him, who can see more than just a rude and harsh boy, James can see more of Regulus and he loves all his parts even the rude and harsh one.
If I can’t have my happy ending I will give Regulus one, and I don’t care about what everyone else says🗣️🗣️🗣️

The Information Network: Crimson Dawn’s Web of Espionage and Collaboration with the Galactic Underworld
Overview
Crimson Dawn, under the leadership of Darth Maul, expertly utilizes a vast and chillingly effective spy network to gather intelligence. Beyond their own operatives, they employ members of allied organizations such as the Pyke Syndicate, Black Sun, and other crime families, gangs, and criminal organizations under Maul's unified Galactic Underworld. This collaborative approach ensures that vital information reaches Maul even when Crimson Dawn agents are unable to penetrate other syndicates’ territories.
The Core Intelligence Network
Tumblr media
1. Crimson Dawn Operatives
- Elite Spies: Trained in stealth, subterfuge, and information gathering, Crimson Dawn operatives form the backbone of the espionage network. These agents are adept at infiltrating various factions, posing as traders, mercenaries, or civilians to gather crucial intelligence.
- Advanced Technology: Equipped with state-of-the-art surveillance devices and communication tools, Crimson Dawn operatives can relay real-time information back to their handlers. This technology ensures accurate and timely updates even from the most dangerous locations.
Allies in Espionage
Tumblr media
1. Pyke Syndicate
- Strategic Alliance: The Pykes’ extensive involvement in the spice trade and their vast network of contacts make them invaluable allies in the realm of intelligence. Their operatives have access to crucial trade routes and can gather information on rival factions and upcoming smuggling operations.
- Dual Roles: Members of the Pyke Syndicate often serve dual roles, conducting their usual smuggling activities while discreetly relaying intelligence back to Maul's network. Their presence in key trade hubs allows them to monitor communications and activities of various galactic elements.
Tumblr media
2. Black Sun
- Information Brokers: Black Sun's reach into the galaxy’s criminal underbelly makes them essential partners in the information network. Known for their connections and ability to gather intel, Black Sun agents provide detailed reports on galactic movements, political shifts, and potential threats.
- Covert Operations: The Black Sun operatives utilize covert operations and bribery to obtain sensitive information from within rival syndicates and legal institutions. Their ability to operate under the radar ensures that they can gather intel without drawing unwanted attention.
Tumblr media
3. Zygerrian Slave Empire
- Infiltrators and Contacts: The Zygerrians’ slave trade operations give them access to diverse populations and valuable contacts. Their slavers operate in various regions, infiltrating societies and extracting information from slaves, traders, and corrupt officials.
- Intelligence from Captives: By interrogating and using their captives, Zygerrian operatives glean vital information about enemies, including strategic plans, supply routes, and secret bases. This intelligence is then funneled back to Crimson Dawn.
Integration into the United Galactic Underworld
1. Unified Command
- Centralized Intelligence: Maul’s vision of a united Galactic Underworld ensures that all gathered intelligence is centralized and analyzed by a dedicated command structure. This approach allows for a comprehensive understanding of galactic events and quick decision-making.
- Relay System: Information is relayed through a secure network that connects all allied organizations. Key points of contact within each faction ensure smooth transmission of data, minimizing the risk of interception or misinformation.
2. Coordination and Collaboration
- Mutual Benefits: The collaborative intelligence network benefits all participants. Syndicates like the Pyke Syndicate and Black Sun gain access to valuable information that aids their own operations while contributing to the collective strength of the underworld.
- Strengthened Alliances: By sharing intelligence, these organizations strengthen their alliances and build trust. The cooperative network ensures that all factions remain informed, coordinated, and ready to act on new opportunities or threats.
Tactical Advantages
1. Penetrating Rival Syndicates
- Access and Infiltration: The collaborative approach allows Crimson Dawn to penetrate territories and organizations where their own operatives might struggle to gain entry. Allies with established presences in rival syndicates gather and relay vital information without raising suspicion.
- Dual Allegiance: Operatives from alliances like the Pyke Syndicate and Black Sun, while primarily loyal to their organizations, understand the mutual benefits of supporting Crimson Dawn’s intelligence network. Their dual allegiance ensures a broad and deep infiltration capability.
2. Monitoring and Counterintelligence
- Constant Surveillance: The broad network enables constant surveillance of rival factions, political players, and potential threats. This real-time intelligence gathering allows Crimson Dawn to stay several steps ahead of its adversaries.
- Counterintelligence: With insights into enemy operations, Maul’s network can undertake counterintelligence measures to mislead, sabotage, and disrupt rival plans. This proactive approach weakens enemy efforts while reinforcing Crimson Dawn's dominance.
The Role of Maul and Strategic Implementation
1. Maul’s Command
- Strategic Oversight: Maul’s strategic brilliance ensures that the gathered intelligence is put to optimal use. He analyzes the data with a keen understanding of the dark side and galactic politics, directing operations that capitalize on the acquired information.
- Tactical Decisions: Utilizing the gathered intelligence, Maul makes informed tactical decisions, from orchestrating raids and ambushes to executing precise assassinations and orchestrating political manipulations.
2. Adaptive and Responsive Operations
- Flexibility: The integrated network allows Crimson Dawn to adapt swiftly to changing circumstances. Whether it’s a sudden shift in power dynamics or an unexpected threat, the network's responsiveness ensures that Crimson Dawn can pivot and respond effectively.
- Exploitation of Opportunities: The real-time nature of the intelligence network enables Maul and his commanders to exploit opportunities as they arise, securing assets, eliminating competition, and expanding their influence with precision.
Tumblr media
Conclusion
Crimson Dawn’s integration of a vast spy network, bolstered by the intelligence-gathering capabilities of its allies within the Pyke Syndicate, Black Sun, Zygerrian Slave Empire, and other criminal organizations, creates a formidable web of espionage. This collaborative approach ensures that vital information continuously flows to Darth Maul, enabling him to stay ahead of rivals and craft strategies with unparalleled precision.
The united Galactic Underworld, functioning as an interconnected organism, exemplifies Maul's vision of cohesive power through shared intelligence and mutual benefit. With the Blood Star as a symbol of their might and an unparalleled intelligence network at their disposal, Crimson Dawn continues to assert its dominance, shaping the fate of the galaxy from the shadows.

SEPTEMBER 2023 WRAP UP
[ loved liked ok no thanks (reread) book club* DNF ]
The Anomaly | Not the Witch You Wed | A Pale Light In the Black | (My Volcano)* | Klara and the Sun | Our Hideous Progeny | (A Gathering of Shadows) | A Dangerous Collaboration | Empire of Sand | (A Darker Shade of Magic) | Scattered Showers | A Treacherous Curse | Sir Hereward and Mister Fitz | The Hanged Man | Magic Below Stairs | The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy | The City & The City | The Splinter in the Sky
* * * * *
Magic Below Stairs was a charming middle-grade spin off to the Cecelia & Kate series, I had a good time and would be more than happy to read more books in this world!
The Hanged Man was the second in the Tarot Sequence, and still great! Not perfect, but the characters are so fun and the plots are extremely intense, I loved reading this. The haunted ship was scarier than the actual haunted ship horror book I just read.
Sir Hereward and Mister Fitz…bad. You took this amazing set up and look what you did with it! You made it generic and boring and feeling outdated. Justice for the centuries-old, animated, sentient, sorcerous, gender-fluid puppet who deserved better (to be the main character, to start)
(Veronica Speedwell is of course, fun as always. I have unfortunately now hit the books with longer hold times and am very D: about it)
Scattered Showers was a very heartwarming collection! Perfectly (and maybe, best) suited for fans of the author’s novels. Perhaps a little one-note, but a good read. I love the cover design a lot :D
This is the first time I’ve reread the Shades of Magic books since I finished the series in 2018. I loved them dearly. But my tastes shifted dramatically between then and now… ADSOM is ok. A decently solid fantasy novel, but not one that’s delivering what I want these days. A Gathering of Shadows, however, is a hot mess. I already did some yelling about it but there’s really not a plot, the storyline seems forced, and as asexualbookbird put it, it’s really just Book 3: The Prequel. I don’t know if reading it for the first time would be better? Mostly I was bored and irritated and would have loved to quit.
Somebody help me out, was there hype for Empire of Sand? Because I feel like there was, and I was so let down. The world building was beautiful, but it felt like absolutely nothing happened for the entire middle of the book? And the romantic elements weren’t enough to tempt me, I’d have loved this if it had gone full political intrigue instead.
I’m not a Frankenstein person, but I had a great time with Our Hideous Progeny! I’m a sucker for historical fiction with smart female characters, even if I wanted to strangle a lot of the men, lol. I might have zoned out a bit during the denser paleontological bits, but I look forward to future work by the author.
Klara and the Sun is another one I don’t quite understand the love for, it just wasn’t for me.
My Volcano. YES. IT IS BACK AGAIN. FOR BOOKCLUB AGAIN EVEN. This is such a complicated book that only two of us managed to finish it for book club when we first read it last year. Now that we have some new recruits we decided to try it again (no luck alas). BUT I am still not over it, check out my tag for more yelling. Right now I’m trying to convince the group to *not* do a third read next year and maybe try one of the author’s other books (and the author followed me back on Twitter! I got irrationally excited lol)
I was a bit nervous going into A Pale Light in the Black, having had some flops from the person who rec’d this previously, but it was so fun! ‘Space Coast Guard’ is not a thing that would immediately leap to mind as something I’d be interested in, but this goes *hard* on the found family vibes and spends just as much time on the characters’ emotions as it does on the plot, in addition to being super queer! The plot is a little clunky being split in two different directions with the investigation and the military games, but I still had such a good time (and speaking from the future, book 2 does improve on that!)
When will I learn my lesson about contemporary romance? Regardless of the fact that the plot for Not the Witch You Wed could have been ripped from one of the many many Teen Wolf fics I’ve read and enjoyed, we did *not* get along. Sigh.
I’m not sure what I was expecting from The Anomaly, but I think it was something more? Probably because it was a translation? Idk, I don’t find the “are we just a simulation” discussion particularly compelling (and My Volcano deals with related topics in more interesting ways), and the rest couldn’t hold me. Really wish I’d DNF’d this one, but I pushed though in hope.
The actual DNF’s -
The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy I wanted to like. I enjoy quirky world building, but it felt like a contemporary romance masquerading as a fantasy - accompanied by all those pesky cr tropes that annoy me. Most of the characters were irritating me as well, and I didn’t want to forgive Hart, even if I understand why he was being so awful, so I decided to quit before I worked myself up too far.
The City & The City had a cool concept, but after 25% I still wasn’t interested. I’d maybe try something else from Mieville, but this wasn’t for me.
The Splinter in the Sky is a book that probably looked fantastic as an outline. But when it came to filling it out and connecting the dots, well…it was lacking a lot. Readable, maybe not worth the effort, but I’d give the author another try on a future work.

Infodump.
🎤
-🎻 anon
i received permission. it's happening. GUYS, IT'S HAPPENING.
okay, okay. i'll try to stay on topic. it's easy to get sidetracked when infodumping.. and it's also even easier for me to think of something new whilst doing so. i'll try to contain it or, at the very least, toss in my new ideas afterwards.
and now i present to you... the avrigian empire.
i believe i've spoken about this before, but never at length since i have a genuine fear of talking too much. but i asked to infodump, and i'm gonna do exactly that, dammit. lemme just. make the text small so it doesn't take a million years to scroll through everything.
how is the government structured?
it's based on noble ranks. (think duke, marquis/marquess, etc.)
power is held by the emperor, his empress, and the five holy families. the heads of these families act as a way to balance the political power that the emperor holds; think of it as a checks and balances system. these five families also embody the seven holy virtues. (note: i would have done seven, but i think five is enough.)
as far as geopolitical lines go, the avrigian empire is split into six regions, with each family head governing a certain area. the sixth region is where the capital is located, and that area is ruled by the emperor. not to say that the emperor doesn't have authority in the regions run by the family heads, but he has less authority there than he would in the capital. in extreme cases, the emperor can usurp the authority of a family head and take control of an area. (think natural disasters, financial ruin, wartime, etc.)
what are the holy families and what are their respective virtues?
so because there are more virtues than there are families, some embody more than one. it's also not a rigid system where everyone in that family must follow that specific virtue to a T, but the point is that the virtue that that family is known for must be at the top of your list. the families also have floral symbols and colors to easily identify them. (note: this may change based on where i put their territories on a map. meaning that if one family is further north, i may change their flower to match the growth patterns based on seasonal changes.)
1. the crest of the white lily.
as a general rule of thumb, the colors of each family often align with the colors that their signature flowers take. so this family's flowers are the african violet and white lily, meaning that their colors are, as expected, white and violet.
white lilies and african violets represent the virtue of humility, and everyone under the crest of the white lily treasures humility above all other virtues. this family was the first to emerge at the dawn of the avrigian empire (note: this will be a silly pun once you understand just how centered the avrigian empire is around the sun) and many members of the upper class have imperial blood.
2. the jasmine crest.
members of the upper class in this family are usually the first pick for suitors of the imperial children.
the heads of this family are grand duke durelli and grand duchess poliveau.
this family's flowers are the white and yellow jasmines, and pink roses. thus, their colors are a pale yellow, white, and a dusty pink.
3. the astilbe crest.
jasmines and pink roses symbolize happiness and kindess, and these are the virtues that members of this family value the most.
the heads of this family are grand duke andercard and grand duchess einsley.
(note: i'll definitely change the names of things at a later date. i'm only just now realizing how corny this all sounds. i was only like, 17 when i came up with this stuff, okay?)
this family's flower is the astilbe, and their colors are white, red, and green. their primary virtues are patience and loyalty.
the astilbe symbolizes patience and dedication. in terms of occupation, members of this family often find themselves serving in the military one way or another. be it strategists, medics, or combatants, those under the astilbe crest mainly populate the military.
the sole head of this family is grand duchess belmont.
4. the dahlia crest.
this family's flower is the lone dahlia. their colors are black, orange, and white.
diligence and justice are the primary virtues of those in this family. the color black is often reserved for those who work in a secret police force, and the family is notorious for having eyes and ears everywhere. (think the dai li from atla.)
the lone head of this family is the young duke rouleaux, who accepted the title after a suspicious incident incapacitated the rightful heirs.
5. the ivis crest.
this family is known for its diverse population. their flowers are the azalea, iris, ivy, and lotus. their colors are pink, purple, and white.
their primary virtue is temperance. something that's important is that the avrigian empire is very religious. many religious officials come from the ivis family.
there are three heads of this family: grand duke vidras, cardinal lambforth, and duchess hopridge.
moving on! my favorite part about the avrigian imperial family is their defining features!
if i didn't already mention it, the avrigian empire is commonly referred to as the nation of the sun because helios is their primary deity. they're not monotheistic – they worship all of the sky gods – but helios is who they revere the most. that being said, the imperial family believes that their founding ancestor was kissed by the sun itself, which is why they look the way they do.
imperial family members have rich, dark skin. priests do as well – there's an avrigian superstition that if your skin is darker, then you're more blessed by the sun than those around you.
they have sunset colored hair; it's a golden orange at the roots and fades to a darker orange towards the ends. it's worth noting that sunset hair is more common in female imperial family members since their hair grows longer and faster. the men commonly keep their hair clipped and short. and their hair is usually wavy or kinky coily. just gorgeous, really.
imperial family members are the only ones who have ruby red eyes. they also commonly have golden or violet eyes. they also develop intricate golden tattoos that weave delicate patterns on their skin. (i used ogun from fire force as a visual reference.) it strongly resembles henna for women and the patterns are broader and straighter on men. the tattoos typically begin to develop by the age of fifteen, at which point the coming-of-age ceremony is held for that family member.
i also have a list of customs and holidays if you wanna hear those, too...
