When you say that you're focusing in recent years on "writ[ing] the words we want in rules-text", and making the rules-text itself more-resonant... How much are you thinking about games like Netrunner and Doomtown, that are drenched in flavorful terminology? Which yes, some people do find a barrier... But it also captivates many potential players. For my current game-project, I'm going even further than those games, just leaning into the madness of theming all the verbs, the zone-names...

There is a threshold where the vocabulary strain becomes too much, but games can find a happy space where it's enough to add flavor, but not too much that players shut down.

I haven’t spoken too much about another work I have called Tales Most Macabre which involves a collection of unrelated short horror stories. Also includes just psychological thrillers as well. Stories include:

Mom, Mister and Me: A 12 yr old girl lives in a house with never going outside due to the controlling Mister who her mother seems to fear

Boxes Best Left Unopened: A nursing student retells her experience in the cadaver lab

The Devil Dances in Dust: Paul tries to bring justice to his fathers murderer in 1930s Texas

Little Desert Town: A 1950s Doomtown as told by Mannequins

When most people think of fantasy role playing worlds, they imagine ones created full of castles, plate armor and other medieval trappings. Dungeons & Dragons is full of official settings like these. But what about a world full of tall ships, sharp wits and sorcerous bloodlines?

Pine Box Entertainment has created a new card game where players choose one of five factions looking to explore, control and influence a port city in the world of 7th Sea. Best known for their work on Doomtown Reloaded, Pine Box is currently Kickstarting 7th Sea: City of Five Sails. The game offers strategy, deckbuilding and a chance to influence the storyline around the city.

In good news or bad news, the pretty fun,Tetris-like tile laying game Arraial has shown up at my local Ollie’s store. It’s a good price but it means the game might not be popular enough to have as much staying power as it deserves.

Other titles in the mix were 2017’s Planet of the Apes, Shark Island, Doomtown Reloaded & Firefly Shiny Dice, in case those are of any interest….
