Today's faceup is on a Pipos R.PI Charlotte in grey akin, along with a manicure and tail blush. She was a fun commission to work on, as I've always wanted to work on a Pipos doll!
I have a before and after of her, the previous faceup was done by the owner, but they wanted a more experienced hand for her fresh faceup. I was happy to oblige!
Want to see more of my work or commission me? Then please check out my website at www[dot]IzasFaceUps[dot]com!

After wanting to do it for so long, I’m finally opening some beginner portfolio-building faceup slots! Because I’m new and cautious, I’d like to only take one or two comms for now.
Please DM me for any questions at all, I’m more than happy to talk out face-up ideas and provide rough mock-ups before any commitments are made! Clean mock-ups are included in the commission prices.
Shipping is from the US, and is not included in prices. I am happy to purchase blank DD heads from Volks to repaint, but otherwise you will be responsible for shipping the head to me, and I will reuse the box sent for its return.

A while back I got a faceup commission, and i excitedly watched the artists socials to wait for the progress pics. Every time another faceup went up, or a WIP post, I wondered if mine was next. I really liked the way they showed off their faceups too - besides the standard photo of just the head, they’d also have ones where they put it on a body and put a wig on it. I was looking forward to that especially cos even though my doll was an OC and would have their own look, i thought it’d be fun to see the photo with the artist styling them different. Anyway, one day I get a DM from the artist with a photo of my dolls head all done! I was glad about it, told them my address etc. As I waited for them to ship to me, I realised that they never posted my doll on their social media. I thought they might just wait a bit after sending before posting, but they never did. To be honest, it made me feel a bit weird. Why wasn’t my commission good enough to be in their portfolio?
After I received the head, I liked it less in person than I thought i would. I was kind of disappointed, it had been an expensive commission and my head had gone overseas. I felt terrible because I didn’t want to offend the artist, but the more I thought about how the artist themselves didn’t seem to like it enough to put in their portfolio or take their usual photos of, the more I started to wonder if they had even used their usual effort, and if I was in the right if I wanted it redone (and by someone else). I still haven’t done that, because I’m not made of money, but I still think about it now and then. Why hadn’t they put it in their gallery? Was it fair for me to have paid full price for a commission they didn’t like themselves? Am I overthinking it and is it normal for an artist to not put a commission in their portfolio when they do with all their others (or at least most of their others). And would you be offended or feel a bit weird if someone you commissioned didn’t think the commission you paid for was worth showing on their account?

HIII I JUST SAW YOUR BJD! And wanted to know what doll you got, what body and head? What size is that cutie? I love the big eyes and the faceup you got
AA thank you anon!!! He's a Simply Meant To Be Dohwee! I saw that sculpt going around a couple years ago and I immediately fell in love with it, like from the very second I knew I wanted one to make into a Nero doll 😭 sadly he's currently discontinued, though emailing Obscure_kind (the sculptor) sometimes results them in doing special one off orders! I got mine secondhand, I happened to have a bit of extra money at just the right time someone was selling theirs for a very good price and I just couldn't pass the opportunity haha! He's a tall MSD - around 48cm I believe, and since he's a bit more mature proportioned than most MSDs, clothes can fit him a bit weird - sleeves and pants meant for MSD are just a bit too short, and tops tend to be a bit tight around his chest/shoulder area, but other than that it all fits fine! I get most of his tops in small SD size anyway since I want them oversized lol. And thank you so much on the faceup and eyes! I'm still VERY rusty when it comes to faceups, I do plan on converting two of my older dolls into DV but I'm too intimidated to wipe them and redo their faces since I used to be so good at it and now it's like I'm still re-learning from scratch 😭 but it was my first ever attempt at making eyes and I'm very happy with how they came out! far from perfect but close enough to what I wanted that I'm happy with it unless I decide to try again and have a much better outcome haha.
#asks#thanks again anon!!!#dolls are very important to me and i missed being actively in the bjd hobby so much#unfortunately I already am starting to have less time as summer rolls out but what can we do#I should have new clothes coming in for him soon and will prob take some pics then!#and when I'm more free I'll keep practicing faceups until I feel ready to tackle the twins + get started on their wigs lmao#you can expect. well you know what kind of pictures you can expect from me when I do that#just word of warning if that's not everyone's cup of tea the twins are gonna be uncle sized HAH#might make a doll only sideblog too at some point who knows#I wanna get back to the point where I feel like I can take faceup commissions 😭#I dont even wanna do it to get paid i just love getting to handle all sorts of doll sculpts#and getting a feel for what looks good on their features and I miss that so much!!!!!#but if I did that right now I wouldn't be able to ensure the quality I'd like so rip back to the training chambers with me

COMMISSIONS
TEMPORARILY CLOSED. i hope to be back in early 2025.
if you want to get your hands on one of my critters, a few options are available:
1) prints of existing bjd models starting at 60€ + shipping. if you want any creature posted in the catalog tag, this option is for you. mini catalog contains simple tiny sculpts that cost 15€. we can discuss size, color, and paint options, or you can have a blank base. eyes and hair are included, clothing and accessories are not. if the post indicates there are fixes i need to make to the prototype, those fixes will be made before your doll is printed. price is determined by how much post-print painting and other customization work you want; i will give you an exact quote when the details have been fully hashed out. the starting price includes a simple paint job & faceup.
2) custom bjd 200€ + shipping. a fully unique sculpt made to your specifications, printed and painted. can include hair and eyes, does not include clothing. i can make clothes for an extra fee, see this & this for some examples. a custom sculpt that involves your design [oc references etc] will not be sold to anyone else.
the maximum height for full dolls is 35cm. bigger prints cost extra, depending on size.
3) floating heads from any sculpt in the catalog tag 25€ + shipping, unique custom heads 50€ + shipping. includes faceup and eyes. can be any size, up to 1/3 scale.
4) familiars/other metal armature art dolls 70€, or 100€ with wings. art dolls can be mixed&matched from all parts i've made, and colors can be whatever i happen to have on hand/am able to find. the tag for familiars is here. if you need a custom head/paws/other parts, i can also do that.
all dolls are fdm 3d-printed in PLA. this means the following things:
they are very lightweight and reasonably sturdy.
there will be layer lines and imperfections. i check the quality of every doll, but a 3d print will never be as flawlessly smooth as a resin doll or a mass-produced plastic doll.
they are non-toxic, though should not be given to children to chew on because they're entirely made of small parts strung together with elastic cord.
i'm not currently selling any digital files.
turnaround time is 2-8 weeks. keep in mind i am one person with one printer, so technical problems can cause delays. payments via paypal invoice when i'm ready to start working. bank transfer and mobilepay are also ok for finnish customers. i ship worldwide, cost depends on location; starting at around 20€ for eu, 45€ for usa, and somewhere in-between for the rest of the world. let me know where you live and i'll give you an exact shipping quote.
no returns or refunds & i can't take responsibility for any problems during shipping. if a part of your doll breaks (in transit or after), i will replace it at the cost of shipping for the new part.
shoot me a chat message to get started!

Bahaha, so here's the other surprise package from my friend, Rae. It's a busted Namihu BJD Creatures Astarion she purchased from them during that charity drive for the dog that ended up dying anyway and HOOOBOY.
Apparently Rae hadn't even opened this package when it arrived since she was busy getting last minute stuff ready for Resin Rose so we have no idea how busted it was prior to her deciding to give it to me, but uh...dayum. Even his little dagger didn't make it in one piece (that I can glue back together though, most likely).
Honestly, even if it didn't arrived broken, this is still such a janky fucking doll. I cannot believe someone would charge people money for this garbage. I've been in the hobby for 15+ years and have owned and handled probably 80+ dolls from various makers and this is by far the worst body I've ever come across. This thing makes Resinsoul bodies seem like a dream in comparison. Absolutely unacceptable level of quality for the amount of cash Namihu charges. Genuinely embarrassing.
On top of the poor joint design, there are tons of cracks everywhere from the printing process. If this is the norm for 3D printed dolls, it's no wonder some faceup and modding artists don't accept commissions for them.
ALSO ALSO, learn how to properly wrap a fucking doll for shipping, Namihu. The taped up monstrosity I opened up was atrocious.
Counting my blessings I didn't bother commissioning Namihu for my CP2077 character's doll head, and it straight up was because the headback looked funky to me in what few pictures they have posted of it. It seemed like it'd have very limited head movement and I was absolutely correct. On top of that, because of how it was designed, it leaves scratches on the front of the neck lmao.
#namihu bjd creatures#bjd#legit bjd#3d printed bjd#ball jointed doll#my camspam#my doll: jankstarion#i am so pissed for my friend even if she never handled this doll bahaha#like...jeeeeesus chriiiiist#like bruh did the creator do absolutely no prototyping before posting this shit for sell?#pieces straight up don't even fit together properly

Long involved WoL BJD project update:
Order custom 3D printed head
Order body
Order Eyes
Buy safety goggles and new mask filters because
Uh oh! eyes don't fit in head so I need to sand out the eyewells to make them fit.
Buy RIT (or similar) dye because my boy is not that pale
Dye body parts
Possibly paint or pastel dye head (3D printed resin doesn't like being boiled apparently)
Faceup time! (The actually fun part! Buy more MSC if my current stock is expired)
buy synthetic fiber for wig making
Make wig with lace front and sides, possibly entirely ventilated (???) (thank god I already know how to do this and have most of the tools) - this will take a long time v.v
Make tail (??? How do? I have an idea but we'll see if it works???) and install with magnets.
Make or commission his main glams (learn just enough about leatherworking or figure something out using craft foam for parts)
Current goal is to have him finished by mid April of 2025.
#Z speaks#BJD things that sound super fucked up out of context :)#anyway I finally sanded out his eyewells like I kept saying I was going to do for like.... 2 months now.#Maybe my next day off I'll hit up a craft store for dye and un-pastify him.#I'll probably be ready to show photos once I get his wig done.#otherwise he looks really weird lol#I might also replace the magnets in his ears with more powerful ones.

Did the faceup for Alec! It's only my second attempt on a bjd sculpt but I actually like it! It matches what I envisioned beforehand anyways.
I already had an outfit ready so all he needs is a wig, which I just commissioned. I'm really happy with how he's turning out. :>

Hi there! My name is Lunar.
I have been in the BJD hobby for decades, but I’ve spent the last eight years or so on hiatus. I don’t know if I fell out of love with the hobby or what, but I stopped playing with my dolls, and nothing was inspiring me, anymore.
That is, until I came across someone selling their Logan.Dolls Valentine on Facebook three days ago. I kept revisiting the listing, drawn to the sculpt. I kept on wondering what I would do with the doll if he was in my collection. And, all of a sudden, that spark that I’d been missing came back! I became hooked, and started to dream up a character. I started to look for owner photos, shop for eyes and clothes. I finally made an offer on the doll on the Marketplace, and as of three am this morning, my offer was accepted. I’m now paying for my new doll through layaway. I haven’t sent the first payment yet, since I don’t get paid until next Friday, but the intention is there: Valentine will be mine!
It’s been awhile since I’ve been on tumblr, but I am setting up camp here, since Logan.Dolls are banned on Den of Angels. I decided to start a new tumblr (instead of opening up my old one), because I wanted a fresh start for this collection of dolls. Right now, I’m thinking it’s only going to be the one doll, since he’s the only one who inspires me at this moment. But who knows, maybe I’ll get more dolls down the road.
As for the new doll, my Valentine is in blue resin (oooooo!), and will come with an OE and a dreamy faceplate, as well as some extra hands. He will have the masc chest and the femme hips, and his name will be Nova.
Nova is a fallen star, and a fortune teller! I spent forever looking for the perfect eyes for him on Etsy. I finally picked out a pair and am waiting for them to ship to me. I’m still deciding how I want to style his hair, but I know that it will be white. I can do faceups, but all of my art supplies are in storage, and I’m thinking that for this doll, I want to commission faceups and body blushing. I’m thinking of sending Nova to Angel Toast, an artist that I’ve always admired, and would like to own some of his work someday.
So that’s what I’m planning. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be reacquainting myself with dolly tumblr, shopping for clothes and wigs, and adding to this blog. Other people’s content, first, and then, some of my own once Nova and his stuff start to arrive.
See you all around! :)

when ppl talk about ridiculously expensive niche hobbies like mtg and warhammer i think about my personal deal with that, which is BJD customization. basically if you know about people who customize monster high dolls, imagine that, but instead of starting with mass produced toy dolls like a normal person wouldnwith a creative hobby, you started with limited run artist dolls created specifically for this community primarily from small companies in japan, china, and korea, and they cost $1,000,0000,0000,000 dollars (i am exaggerating it really depends but it is the notoriously expensive subcategory of doll customization)
i’ve been taking a long break from it because my financial priorities have changed since i got my first living wage job and got really into it. i also had a tragic experience where i was doing a really elaborate custom of an OC and i managed to get a commission slot with a very popular artist to do the faceup (you mail them the doll’s head, they paint the face and mail it back) and it got lost in the mail and lowkey emotionally destroyed me. i don’t really have any interest in getting back into it, still, anytime soon, although i still have my two customs (milford, who is an oc, and my custom killua zoldyck!!!)
like im prefacing all of this with GENUINELY i have no interest for the time being
on an unrelated note to absolutely anything going on in my life i found out today that iplehouse makes a sculpt, once again, intended for customization, called “oscar” (bald uncanny valley doll jumpscare:)
#long post / bjd / dolls //#again. unrelated to anything. at all. you know.#theyre sold bald cuz youre expected to make/buy wigs/hair for them accoridng to your Vision#the eyes are big is the main thjng here. its prt of the stylization but thats the main thing. you could fill them in but im not sure about#y skill level there#but it doesnt matter since yknow idle thiughts here

This Sprouting Dragon Zilu in Mia pink skin was an interesting challenge due to her sculpted eyelashes. Naturally she was given lots of cute freckles! She is one of my wife's dolls, which means I could get an owner picture right away.
Isn't she pretty? My wife ordered the resin wig with her, but it didn't have enough magnets installed (only like 6 out of 12), so I bought some myself and filled in the remaining slots. The resin wig is still very precarious, but it's cute at least!
Want to see more of my work or commission me? Then please check out my website at www[dot]IzasFaceUps[dot]com!

I am autistic, dolls are my special interest
We are plural - we aren't particularly open about it on insta/discord but you'll see us use I/we interchangeably on this blog.
River uses it/its and Whisper uses sie/sier, but you can use they/them for us.
Social Media
Instagram: patchworksoda
Discord: patchworking (ask before adding)
Q&A
What doll is X / what part/technique did you use for Y?
I'm always happy to answer questions! You can also check my asks tag to see if your question has been asked before.
Do you take commissions for faceups?
Not currently! I am still very much learning / not satisfied with my skills, plus living in Australia would make shipping an issue.
Why does your bio have two names/pronouns?
We are plural - River and Whisper are the hosts of Patchwork and both of us are interested in dolls.

I commissioned two very famous, popular, and expensive doll artists in the community, and I thought with their portfolios of work, there was no way my commissions could go wrong. Both of them ended up terrible. In one case, it looked fine in the approval photos, but upon arrival, the materials used were the cheapest, crappiest materials available. In the other case, the artist's terms and conditions clearly stated that no changes, remakes, or fixes were allowed. Even though I knew from the preview pics it wasn't close to what I asked for, there was nothing I could do about it. Neither artist ever posted my commissions anywhere. Needless to say, I have trust issues now.
