It wasn’t the Yule ball and Harry wasn’t the fumbling fourteen-year-old who thought he only liked pretty girls.

No, eighteen-year-old Harry was under no such delusions and Draco Malfoy looked resplendent in his shimmering, midnight blue robes.

Harry started toward him, it’s time everyone knows he likes pretty boys too.

...okay, so I suppose Christmas in 1995 was on a Monday and if the winter break is generally two weeks long and starts on the weekend before Christmas, then maybe the first Occlumency lesson (on a Monday evening) was on the 8th of January and Severus Snape was not yet 36 years old, but, ah, time is wobbly etc.

Has Severus taken the role of "Godmother" faster than Harry has managed to adapt to Sirius' revelation/declaration? Maybe, yes, probably. Does Voldy demand student drama and gossip from Severus? Yes.

Gotta love our accidental bisexuals that are Percy Jackson and Harry Potter, which are both portrayed as straight but Percy can and will describe how attractive all of the men and women around him are, while Harry talks about Draco's sparkling eyes and the attractiveness of Cedric Diggory and young Tom Riddle while still pining after Cho Chang and Ginny.

draco informs Pansy about his suspicions that Potter has somehow poisoned him. He can’t explain otherwise why his stomach seems to hurt every time he catches Potter’s gaze across two tables separating them and a crowd full of children.

“Is it even a good idea?” He asked. “Would I actually know for sure just because I read a book?”

Ginny giggled as they sat together in the Gryffindor common room. “Maybe.” She shrugged with a wide grin. “I don’t know.”

Harry huffed. “Yea, but you like boys, you should know.”

“Harry, I was born liking boys.” She pointed out. “Or, well, you were too … you just never thought of it till now.”

“But if I like boys, wouldn’t I just know same as how I like girls?”

She shrugged once again. “Wouldn’t Seamus know better since he’s also a boy who likes boys?”

“I- maybe … I don’t know.” He cracked a smile as he echoed her phrasing. Though she may have a point about him going to a twelve-year-old straight girl about his problem.

“What’s the worst that could happen if you talked to him?”

Harry was only quiet a moment before lamely muttering, “What if we kiss?”

Ginny giggled once more. “Are you afraid to kiss a boy again? Seriously?” She chuckled before her smile faltered slightly. “Or … are you afraid you’ll like kissing boys?”

“Maybe.” He huffed. “I-I just don’t know. I don’t know anything.”

Ginny nodded, thinking a moment before she gently asked, “Is that why you won’t read the book? You’re worried you’ll like it?”

“I think so.” Harry swallowed.

She nodded once more, trying to be careful about her questions because she really had no idea how to go about this. “Well, what if you do?”

“Then I like guys.”

“What then?”

He shrugged, staring at the ground.

“Do you not want people to know you like guys?”

“I-I think … maybe.” He went red from the thought, a frown on his face. “I don’t want people to think I like guys.”

“What if they did?”

“They’ll be weird, probably … laugh.”

Ginny furrowed her eyebrows, looking at Harry with a bit of worry. “No one laughs at Seamus and he likes guys.”

He shifted uncomfortably in his seat. “Yea … but it’s different.”

“What’s different?”

“It makes sense that Seamus likes guys; it’d be weird if I did.”

This was a book for girls, about a girl. It wasn't for him. These feelings weren't for him. The flirty Vikings in the book wanted Esmer, a girl, not Harry, a boy. He didn't have long hair or fair skin. The book only made him feel even worse about himself. But he still liked the book. He liked the guys; they just didn't like him. He wasn’t a girl, and he wasn’t like the gay guys he knew. Draco was blond and pretty and skinny. Seamus was cheery and freckled and always smelled like nice soap. But Harry played Quidditch. He was strong. He had scars and wild magic and he’s seen people die. The boys he liked in the book would never like him back. Real boys wouldn’t either. Boys wanted girls, and when they wanted boys, they wanted boys like Seamus and Draco, not boys like him.

Harry doesn’t like boys. It’s easier that way.

Fans wanting to meet the Harry Potter was always an annoying part of owning the Tornadoes Quidditch team for Draco. But when a little boy stands in front of him clutching a Quibbler magazine, eyes wet pleading to meet not Quidditch player Harry Potter but instead the Harry Potter that came out as bisexual, Draco knows that he's about to break his firm no fan meeting policy and allow the kid to meet his husband.
