“Have we met before? I swear I know you.”

Identity reveal

Dick wasn’t quite sure how he ended up in this situation. One moment he was rushing towards his nearest safehouse to change into his Nightwing suit, the next he was in a shelter with other civilians.

The answer became obvious as a blur of red deposited more people in the safe zone- one of the Flashes had evacuated him. He groaned internally- being mistaken for a civilian was exactly what he didn’t need when there was an alien army invading Gotham.

He slipped out a back door only to come face-to-face with the younger Flash, Wally West. As Kid Flash & Robin, and later Flash & Nightwing, the two had been friends for years. As Dick Grayson, however… well, Wally still didn’t know his civilian identity.

“Are you… sneaking out of the shelter?” Wally asked incredulously. Dick winced and gave him a sheepish smile.

“Sorry, I didn’t want to get in your way, but my brother is at home and I need to make sure he’s okay,” he lied smoothly.

“Oh! Well, I can give you a lift to your building if you want? We’ll be there in a flash,” Wally said with a wink. Dick snorted, that joke was so dorky it always made him laugh. Wally beamed at his reaction.

“Yeah that’d be great thanks, you can just drop me in front,” Dick replied gratefully.

“So,” Wally clapped his hands together, “how do you wanna do this? Piggyback or bridal carry?”

“Hmm, probably piggyback, seems easier for both of us,” Dick answered. Wally nodded in agreement and crouched down in front of him. Dick climbed onto his back easily, having years of experience doing so. The speedster adjusted to his weight just as easily.

Wally faltered for a moment at the familiarity.

“Have we met before?” he asked, “I swear I know you.”

Dick froze. Well, now was as good a time as any, he supposed. Instead of answering, Dick directed Wally to his nearest safehouse. When they arrived in front, however, he dragged the confused speedster into the building with him and pulled him into the small apartment.

Wally stood in the entrance awkwardly as the familiar stranger disappeared into a bedroom. Just as he was about to run off, the man yelled “Don’t leave!” and Wally froze in place.

The man finally emerged in a familiar suit, sans mask, with a sheepish smile.

“Hey KF,” he said with a small wave.

“…Rob?” Wally asked incredulously.

They were interrupted by the crackle of Nightwing’s comms requesting backup.

“We are SO talking about this later,” Wally said pointedly, to which Dick grinned.

“I’m counting on it,” he replied with a wink and kissed Wally’s cheek before sliding out the window and grappling away.

Wally touched his cheek in shock before grinning and running after him.

BIRDFLASH FIC RECS :D

When they're sixteen, Dick and Wally spend the summer exploring the lesser used parts of Wayne Manor. Amongst the dust and the boxes, they make a few discoveries.

“Don't think too hard about it,” Robin grinned shooting his line to swing to another rooftop, “I just think you have more of a chance than you think you do.”

“What do you-” Wally came to a full stop, staring at Robin. “Holy shit, Batman’s gonna be so mad.”

After a moment of reveling in his easy victory, Wally turns to the source of the noise. Just in time to see Dick falling, gloved hands fumbling for a spare grappling hook he doesn’t have.

Shit.

Wally has a date. A real date. And he's more than a little nervous and so he decides to go to his best bro for some advice. Dick proposes a 'practice date'.

Robin and Kid Flash are best friends. They have always been best friends. But now, almost a year after the team formed, things between them are getting - tense. In a whole lot of ways. If there's a chance for something more, then there's a lot of teenage bullshit to get through first. Including: too much junk food, shitty school dances, late night escapades, and bubblegum lip balm.

It's easy to miss someone who feels like another part of you. Wally deals with a hero-benching after a serious injury.

Day 4 - Fake Dating

Not quite what the prompt calls for, but this idea wouldn't leave me alone, and I didn't mean for there to be this many feels in this prompt, I don't know what happened, but....sorry not sorry?

Wally looked down in slight surprise when his bed at the Mountain dipped suddenly. He glanced back to see the back of his best friend's head, hair a mess - as if he'd been running his fingers through it - face down on his mattress.

His fingers twitched with the sudden urge to try and make the black hair lay flat. Knew it was a hopeless effort at the best of times. He tightened the grip he had on the book in his lap, resisting the temptation.

"What's up boy wonder?"

Dick muttered something unintelligible, and frustrated, into Wally's comforter, shoving his face further into the bed.

"I'm sorry, I don't speak mattress-ese. How about we try that without a mouthful of blankets?"

Dick pushed his arms under himself, raising his head far enough from the bed that he could glare at his so-called best friend.

"I said, I hate prom season. And people that can't seem to understand the words, no thank you."

Wally raised one brow questioningly at the look of frustrated exasperation on Dick's face. Wally shuffled on the bed turning to face his friend, folding the corner of his page so he didn't lose it, and tossing it aside, gave Dick his full attention.

"Lay it on me. Tell old Wal man all your woes."

And that was all the prompting Dick needed. Explained how a senior girl kept asking him to prom, thankfully so far without an audience, but notes in his locker, his bag, her friends slipping him notes, his friends slipping him notes! He'd told her no, as gently, but firmly as he could, cause she was sweet and he didn't want to hurt her feelings, "but I'm pretty sure she's gearing up for some big elaborate ask in front of a huge crowd, and I don't want to hurt her, but I will say no in front of the entire school if I have to."

Dick flopped back on the bed, once his rant was finished, so he was staring up at the ceiling, eyes tired.

"Why not just say you have a date already?"

Dick raised his head enough to glare at Wally. "And then show up at prom sans said date?" He shook his head and dropped it back down onto the bed. "No way. I still have one more year left at that hell hole, I'm not making it any worse for myself."

Wally bit his lip, fingers worrying with the cuffs of his shirt, tugging at a loose thread. He can't believe he's about to suggest this, but he wants to help his friend. Wants to see him smile, wants to be the cause of it.

"What if... what if you brought a date?"

Dick's head shot up so fast Wally winced for him. "What?!"

"A date. What if you brought one. Then you wouldn't be lying?"

"Okay yeah, but who can I ask on short notice, Z has her own to go to, Arty thinks my suffering is hilarious, Roy's off who knows where - "

And Wally felt his heart sink as he wasn't even considered an option, but here he was opening his big mouth again anyway.

"I-I could go with you." He blushed at the way his voice cracked, and he glanced down at his hands so he didn't have to see the rejection on Dick's face.

When Dick didn't say anything after a few moments, Wally tensed up, shoulders going tight, hunching up by his ears. "Never mind, it was a dumb idea. I'm sorry I said -" he cut himself off when a hand touched his leg.

"Really? You'd do that for me?"

Wally just smiled, a little sadly, nodding. "Yeah man, of course. We're best buds, I know you'd do the same for me." His heart nearly breaking, the words like dirt on his tongue.

Wally was surprised when he suddenly had a lap full of a happily laughing Dick Grayson, and he hugged him back on instinct, blushing at the way Dick's face was tucked into his neck.

"Of course I would! Best friends for life man."

Dick pulled back to look Wally in the eye, a wide smile nearly splitting his face in two. "Thank you! You're the best. I don't know how to thank you enough for this."

Wally laughed, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. "No big deal dude. Just text me the deets and let me know when and where."

Dick nodded, smile still on his face as he rolled out of Wally's lap and onto the floor. "Will do! And thanks again Wally, I really appreciate you helping me out."

"Anytime Dickie-bird."

He watched Dick bounce out his room, waiting a few moments to be sure Dick was gone, before throwing himself backwards onto his bed, groaning, covering his face with his hands.

"This is such a bad idea."

For the Pacific Rim au: how do Dick and Wally befriend the other Titans? How does their first mission as a team go? Does Roy have any history with Jade or Donna in this 'verse? fuck i love this idea so much i have so many questions sdfjl

Dick and Wally just have this natural, gravitational pull. They’re so close that they just radiate pure friendship and trust and loyalty, and others want to take part in that. It helps that the rest of the Titans were in their sector in training, as they’re all on a similar level of skill and compatibility. They both already knew Donna and Roy from their childhood, so that was an easy enough friendship to fall back into, and the rest of them fell into place after that.

Roy and Jade were definitely an on and off thing during training. That’s how Dick and Wally got to know Jade, and subsequently Artemis. They both hit it off right away with her, loving her sarcasm and eye for mischief. They made fast friends with them both. Donna and Roy are too focused as pilots to even consider trying a relationship while active in the program, but after years of being in the drift, they eventually figure out how to say out loud the things that have been in their heads all this time.

When Tim, Conner, and Bart enter the academy a few years after them, Dick immediately latches on Tim. He’s got the technical skill of a engineer with a PhD - at the age of 18 - and Dick feels like he has as much to learn from him as he can teach. Tim makes friends with Conner and Bart during training, so when he introduces them to his new surrogate brother and his boyfriend, Wally and Bart hit it off right from the start. They’re as alike as Dick and Tim, and can spend hours talking about physics and chemistry and Kaiju biology. They’re both massive geeks and it’s really nice to have SOMEONE to talk about this shit with.

Cass and Steph enter the academy the same year as Tim, but Dick and Wally already know them very well: Cass is Dick’s adoptive little sister. Bruce had found her the same way he found Dick, but she needed far more guidance than he did. She threw herself into training in a way Dick had only ever seen in Bruce, and to this day she is still the Most capable fighter ever recorded in the Jaeger program. She’s quiet and ruthless, but luckily she has her other half that has softened her up more than anyone will know: Steph.

Steph manages to befriend everybody, particularly Tim and Conner, tying them all together like the red string of fate. She’s bubbly and friendly but always goes with her gut, because she knows she can trust it. And eventually, so does the rest of the team.

When they finally get the government to green light the ‘Titans’, their first deployment as a squad is a double event: Category 3 and 4 on the Alaskan coast, codenamed Spineripper and Austerity. Dick and Wally, as the founders of the team, are on point in Crimson Thunder. Striker Obsidian flanks them on the right, Red Victory on their left. Carmine Fury, as a heavy hitting tank of a machine, defends the coastline with Envy Assassin, which nimbly uses various projectiles and blades from afar to protect the Miracle Mile.

The Titans take down the two Kaijus in less than one hour, their combined skills and implicit trust making it easy for each of them to do their job accordingly. Dick takes his natural place as leader, with Wally supporting his every decision as it flows into his mind through the drift.

Jaeger pilots are known for their unpredictability - it makes them adaptable in the field, but it makes it hard to force them into submission, as most militaries do. Luckily, the Titans aren’t a squad of random Rangers put together for their abilities. They’re friends, and that’s what makes them the strongest Jaeger Team to date: they trust each other not because they have to, but because they WANT to, and they carry that with them through the drift.

22. Do you reread your old works? How do you feel about them?

Some of my older works that are on tumblr I'm fine with. Like I do love this little BirdFlash piece I did for a request, I love the little mini drabble with Steph as the Doctor and Tim as her companion that I always think about expanding on but will likely never do.

Technically "Unwilling Treasure Hunt Participant" is older. I wrote it back in like 2013 and then edited it latter to post it on a whim. I don't have a lot of finished older works, just scraps of ideas or a few broken paragraphs. I just never had the drive to complete anything larger scale.

Older OLDER fics from when I was in high school are atrocious. I had this multichaptered Sonny With A Chance fic I was working on that I had a binder for with a custom cover. I brought that to school, wrote during class, typed it up at home. I had a mini following! I thought it was great! I glanced at it recently...let's just say that it's about as advanced in length and storytelling as My Immortal. It's also unfinished.

There is an older work I'm proud of, though I haven't read it in a long time, but I did a oneshot where I decided to kill off Alex Russo. Don't know what posessed me but I had fun with it.

My first fics are all just very juvenile. I read a lot, I knew how long most chapters in books were, but for some reason I fell prey to the short form no substance chapters as most teens seem to.

Older than that I just used to write little books as a kid. I'd take a bunch of paper, fold it, staple it, and just write/draw whatever was on my mind. My friend did too. I went through a period when I was 8 or 9 where I liked making miniature books. I read "The Doll People" and loved the idea of the tiny diary one of the dolls had, so I would make books super small that only needed one staple, and I'd write/draw as tiny as I could. I used to make tiny horror stories.

I've always loved storytelling, and one day I'll air out my high school fanfics for YouTube because I think it will be fun to cringe at myself.

Birdflash Week (Day 4)

Wally watched as Batman pulled up a profile on the screen at the front of the Watchtower’s conference room. According to the Bat’s reports, there was a new Rogue on the loose that knew the Justice League’s secret identities. So far they hadn’t gone to the media, luckily, but in the meantime they had built up quite the reputation in Gotham (along with a pile of bodies).

The profile showed a masked man, likely about Wally’s age, in a black and blue suit. There was a symbol on his chest, and two stripes of color down his arms and gloves. That was all he could tell from the extremely blurry photo, though. Apparently he went by the alias ‘Shadow’ and had been traveling the world quite a bit before settling in Gotham.

“Do we know how he find out our identities?” Superman asked, tone grave.

To any normal person it would look like Batman replied with a simple “No,” but with his superspeed Wally was able to catch the briefest hint of hesitation before the man responded. Which was… unsettling. Batman never hesitated, ever. Something was definitely up with this Rogue.

Batman continued to brief them all on the situation, but seemed fairly confident the masked man wouldn’t reveal their identities to the public. That, at least, was comforting. The rest, not so much. It seemed like this Rogue was taking more of an anti-hero approach at least, only killing criminals that were repeat offenders or the worst of the worst. Of course, killing was always bad, but at least this guy wasn’t harming civilians or heroes.

As the meeting dispersed and Wally zeta’d back to Keystone, he couldn’t help but wonder about the new Rogue, and how exactly he knew the League’s identities- which was one of the most carefully kept secrets in the entire world- and why he (however thankfully) hadn’t just released them to the media.

His thoughts about the man kept him distracted enough that he didn’t notice someone else was in his apartment until he was already in it with them. And, because he had shit luck, it was the Rogue he had just been wondering about. Eh, he was never one for subtlety anyway.

“Hey, why didn’t you release our identities to the public?” he asked the man, who cocked his head and studied him before replying.

“I don’t actually want villains to hurt you or your loved ones. I was just proving a point to B, telling him something only I would know,” he explained, much to Wally’s surprise.

“…Oh. Um. What?” Wally asked, beyond confused.

“Plus I wanted to mess with the League a bit I suppose. Not you though, Wally,” he smiled warmly at the speedster and Wally felt a rush of familiarity at the sight.

“Have we… met? Before?” the redhead asked somewhat desperately. There was something about the man before him that Wally just recognized on a bone-deep level. The man’s kind smile turned into a delighted grin and he pulled a stunned Wally into a hug.

“I knew you would remember me! I told Dami but he didn’t believe me. We were best friends for almost a decade, of course you’d remember me,” he rambled excitedly. The speedster froze in his arms and sucked in a sharp breath, pulling away to face the man once more.

“…‘Wing?” he asked, voice breaking at the end.

Nightwing nodded enthusiastically and was pulled back into a crushing hug.

“I thought… everyone assumed you were dead but I refused to believe it, but then so many years passed and Batman never said anything… I’m so sorry,” Wally whispered.

“Hey, hey no it’s not your fault. I should have told you all that I was leaving after Jay died, I’m sorry. I wasn’t in a good headspace and it only got worse and then… after everything I’ve done… I didn’t think you would want me back,” Dick admitted softly.

“Of course we would, dumbass. Of course I would,” he emphasized, leaning his forehead against the shorter man’s.

“I’m sorry I left,” Dick replied, holding him tighter.

“It doesn’t matter. You’re back now, and nothing is going to come between us again,” Wally promised, and leaned down to press a kiss to the other man’s lips, which was eagerly returned.

For the mini fic: would love to see birdflash (half) no capes au where Wally's still flash but Dick's a civilian. But please, not Wally getting hurt during heroing and Dick being worried as I'm not a big fan. But maybe containing some friendly interactions between flash and his rogues? That would be perfect

first things first, this was absolutely not wally’s fault, okay? he may have been distracted and ran facefirst into a brick wall, but he had every right to be distracted by that- that adonis walking the streets of Central City!

wally prided himself on knowing most of the Central locals, including his rogues. and it wasn’t everyday that someone new moved here! so, if a new person caught wally off guard, he couldn’t be blamed.

unfortunately, captain cold just laughed while helping wally up when he tried to explain this to him.

“i’ll see you around, kid. try not to run into any more buildings,” captain cold joked before running off to who-knows-where.

wally west was an adult and definitely did not pout the entire run home.

the second time wally ran (ha!) into the gorgeous new stranger was actually as a civilian in his biochem course (and of course this hot guy was also a science nerd, exactly wally’s type). when he first walked into the room and spotted the other man, he immediately made a beeline to the empty chair next to him, slumping into the seat as casually as possible.

the man looked up at the sudden movement and met wally’s gaze, trapping him with dazzling sapphire eyes. wally could only blink stupidly when the other man tilted his head (like a puppy, oh my god) and gave him a small smile.

however, before wally could say anything, the professor arrived and class began.

“Are you… sneaking out of the shelter?” Wally asked incredulously. Dick winced and gave him a sheepish smile.

“Sorry, I didn’t want to get in your way, but my brother is at home and I need to make sure he’s okay,” he lied smoothly.

“Oh! Well, I can give you a lift to your building if you want? We’ll be there in a flash,” Wally said with a wink. Dick snorted, that joke was so dorky it always made him laugh. Wally beamed at his reaction.

“Yeah that’d be great thanks, you can just drop me in front,” Dick replied gratefully.

“So,” Wally clapped his hands together, “how do you wanna do this? Piggyback or bridal carry?”

“Hmm, probably piggyback, seems easier for both of us,” Dick answered. Wally nodded in agreement and crouched down in front of him. Dick climbed onto his back easily, having years of experience doing so. The speedster adjusted to his weight just as easily.

Wally faltered for a moment at the familiarity.

“Have we met before?” he asked, “I swear I know you.”

Dick froze. Well, now was as good a time as any, he supposed. Instead of answering, Dick directed Wally to his nearest safehouse. When they arrived in front, however, he dragged the confused speedster into the building with him and pulled him into the small apartment.

Wally stood in the entrance awkwardly as the familiar stranger disappeared into a bedroom. Just as he was about to run off, the man yelled “Don’t leave!” and Wally froze in place.

The man finally emerged in a familiar suit, sans mask, with a sheepish smile.

“Hey KF,” he said with a small wave.

“…Rob?” Wally asked incredulously.

They were interrupted by the crackle of Nightwing’s comms requesting backup.

“We are SO talking about this later,” Wally said pointedly, to which Dick grinned.

“I’m counting on it,” he replied with a wink and kissed Wally’s cheek before sliding out the window and grappling away.

Wally touched his cheek in shock before grinning and running after him.
