the most important distinction between boba fett and jango fett is that jango fett grew up on a farm and then in a traveling mandalorian merc clan and boba fett grew up in a city sized lab and then juvie and then every gutter in the galaxy from here to nar shaddaa
#and both of them have seen way too much shit they can't unsee#jango fett#boba fett#txt#I feel like people gloss over boba's coming of age era cause it's a content void but I do think it's important to his character#gestures vaguely Something(s) happened there#teenage to early 20s boba is very fun to think about cause he's like the exoskeleton of the adult boba we see#by which I mean he's very troubled kid archetype very antagonistic hasnt really nailed down much about who he is besides the main stuff he's#already known forever#so he's basically being dragged through the alleys of the galaxy learning all these very hard lessons#and at the same time developing all these ideas about what he can be what he's going to be what he wants#there's a lot of kids floating through the gutters and a lot of them dont make it out#and boba has a lot of big advantages but there's also an explosiveness to him that is necessary to power him through all the#Trials and Tribulations and Associated Bullshit to the position that he holds comfortably later#22 year old fuck it we ball ruthless boba is the reason 37 year old still ruthless boba gets to say he's just a simple man making his way#through the galaxy#and likewise while I think most of his idealism burns off early#I think there's a lot more social self-positioning inner turmoil that burns off like a comet tail over the years#my beautiful meta characterization using like 30% of total boba fett media#I need to become a true scholar of boba fett#etc etc

Tim Drake Befriends a Bee Minific
When Tim was young and very lonely, he befriended a bumblebee.
Back then, he was curious in a way that teased wonder on every rusted fire escape. At 9 years old, even Gotham’s grimiest streets sparkled under the right light and perfect Summer days were for adventure, not dread.
It had been one of those perfect days - balmy, sunny, fresh, and crisp - when Tim almost stepped on a bee. He paused, one leg raised, light up sneakers still flashing, and hopped to the side.
He carefully picked it up. The poor thing didn't have wings. It was so delicate. Its tiny legs tickled Tim's palms.
Tim was stricken with fear that it would die on the hot pavement, alone and scared. It needed to be protected. It needed a chance.
An eyedropper of sugar water and 30 minutes later, the bee was moving - crawling all over the table and, eventually, over Tim's hands. He brought the bee out into the garden, letting it examine the roses, the lavender, the yarrow.
Tim couldn’t leave it out there, defenseless, with no one to watch over it, to make sure it wasn't eaten or crushed or lonely.
He named the bee Sisko, after his favorite Star Trek character, and because it was an onomatopoeia of the strange buzzing sound Sisko would make while traveling up and down Tim’s arms.
Day after day, Sisko and Tim would make new sugar water, then go explore every flower and bush and stone on the Drake property. Sisko’s favorites were the yellow roses, which had bloomed brighter and taller than anything else that season. Sisko would always crawl back to Tim’s hands in the end, or his arms, sometimes even up Tim's neck and into his bushy hair to keep Tim company while heating up chicken nuggets or peeling open protein bars or chowing down cold pizza.
At night, Sisko slept in the ratty, soft stomach of Tim’s favorite stuffed animal, a bunny his Mom had given him when he was too young to remember. Tim moved the stuffy from his bed to his dresser (he was nervous about rolling onto Sisko in his sleep) and every night checked that Sisko was safe and sound before turning out the lights.
They were friends - best friends.
With Sisko, Tim lost the urge to wander off in Gotham proper for batwatching. Instead, he’d re-learned every step of Drake property, fell in love again with the flowers and trails, the old, old trees, and the pond out near the property line.
Tim knew Sisko was on borrowed time (of course he did) but against all logic, Tim was certain that Sisko wasn’t any normal bumblebee. How could he be? Not when he’d chosen Tim, not when they'd made a home together. Anyway, why should it be so ridiculous to think that Sisko might be a witch's familiar or a companion like Jiminy Cricket. Magic was real, and there were stranger things on Gotham's streets every day.
Tim started to believe, actually believe, that one day he and Sisko might slip into Narnia or Wonderland or Middle Earth. Every day was an adventure.
Eventually the cold began to creep back, hardening the ground, taking the flowers, and turning the leaves. It was a chilly Sunday afternoon when Sisko crawled into Tim’s palm, fell asleep, and never woke up again. No matter how much Tim begged and begged and begged.
He'd died so quietly. So unceremoniously. Tim wasn't ready. It wasn't fair.
Sisko was just a bee, and Tim was just a boy, and there were no magic wardrobes waiting for them.
Tim buried Sisko under the yellow rose bush, long gone spindly and brown. He cried so much that he'd thrown up in the dirt.
Later that week, Scarecrow broke out of Arkham. For the first time since June, Tim pulled out his black clothes and his camera bag to watch Batman and Robin save the day.
The click click of his camera shutter, the smoggy sky, the sweet rot smell of the dumpsters: that was familiar. Tim was a shadow again. He could lose himself: in the dark, in the night.
Tim tucked his bunny stuffy into the back of his closet. He stopped waiting for magic to find him, at least, not the kind you'd read about in storybooks. Magic may have been real, but it was for people like Robin, people who swung from rooftops and laughed loud and made the world brighter. It was never meant for someone like Tim.

what if in that 10 month gap between s1 and s2, mel and frank absolutely run into each other OUTSIDE of work. at a coffee shop or grocery store or the park. maybe mel is coming off a shift and she’s dead tired. maybe it was a rough day. maybe frank is outside doing literally anything else because he knows abby can’t stand being around him right now. and he gets it. he does. he looks up and there is his least problematic trainee. and when she spots him too a complete look of elation passes her face as she practically bounces on her toes because ‘you’re here!! doctor langdon, what are you doing here—okay, i know what you’re doing here but how have you been? are you okay?’ for once frank doesn’t feel like nails dragging down a chalkboard at being asked that question. she’s standing in front of him with dark circles under her eyes and hair loose around her shoulders. but mel’s eyes are bright. the look on her face is genuine, like he could tell her honestly that no he isn’t okay and she wouldn’t judge or pity him. she would listen.
so alright. his marriage is a fucking joke. his career is hanging by a loose thread. and here is dr. melissa king standing in front of him exuding that same energy and excitement that she did on that shift that blew his life up. so he smiles back at mel without really noticing, and suddenly he was back to that day but he’s not remembering all the bad. no, he’s remembering the good parts. that all seem to involve a brilliant and sensitive doctor. ‘in the flesh mel,” he says, and then he’s asking if mel wants to grab a coffee sometime. she does because she has so much to tell him about work!!!! honestly he’s like a moth to a damn flame. he knows he shouldn’t head toward the flicker of fire, toward that bright light, but he still wants to. so they trade numbers and grab coffee a few times and maybe he starts bringing around that puppy his wife can’t stand for no other reason except the fact that benny likes mel and mel seems to decompress a lot better whenever she has her hands buried in the dogs fur. they don’t see each other a lot because frank has na & therapy & oh yeah he’s trying to repair his relationship with his kids and less so his wife and mel has her sister and work.
flashforward to july 4th. flash-forward to his first day back where he spent a good amount of time firmly declaring inside his mind that mel is his friend. maybe his only friend at this point. when they easily slip back into sync professionally like they do personally it becomes a lot harder as the months go on to pretend like he isn’t in the process—if not already—in love with mel. but he’s married and an addict and he can’t it even dispense tylenol by himself at work. it’s only a matter of time before his life implodes again. he doesn’t want mel to get caught in the middle of it. he’s already worried that their friendship is going to ruin all the good in her but oh yeah. frank langdon is a moth to the damn flame when it comes to melissa king. he could and should be a better man. divorce abby before even touching those feelings swirling inside his chest. yeah. he’s not a good man. never had and never will be.

Undertale is one of those stories that works so well because I would be fascinated by any two characters interacting over literally anything. What would happen if you trapped Toriel and Alphys in a car for 8 hours. Mettaton and Flowey have to watch paint dry, who dies first. Sans and Undyne are stuck at a team-building seminar. Papyrus and Asgore are standing in line at a CVS. The possibilities are endless

One of my primary metrics for evaluating children's programming has always been "are the kids learning from this?" A visual medium is a perfect place to illustrate the meanings of different vocabulary words, whether by visual demonstration or context clues. Surprisingly, I didn't catch on to the pattern until well into Chaos Theory, but when looking back...Camp Cretaceous actually provides a plethora of good words for kids to learn in a fairly natural context.
Thus, I present:
Camp Cretaceous Vocabulary: Season 1
