Hi everyone, it's been about a year since I posted about updated COVID vaccines and it's time for another update if you are in the US:

THE BRIDGE ACCESS PROGRAM IS ENDING!!!!

If you are uninsured or your insurance does not cover covid boosters, please schedule a new booster appointment before the end of August because the Bridge Access Program (the way the government will still pay for your booster) ends in September. The updated mRNA boosters from Moderna and Pfizer are available now. Go Go GO!!!

Shitty, I know! If you can call your congressional reps, the FDA, the CDC, whomever to tell them you want this program to continue/be reinstated, that would be great. Also, while you're at it, call the FDA to tell them to expedite the approval for the updated Novavax booster (3017962640).

The new Novavax vaccine is designed for the JN.1 strain which is one of the most recent mutations of the virus going around. If you have insurance and can afford to wait, I highly recommend getting the Novavax booster when it becomes available.

We are currently in the largest Covid summer surge since 2021

If you haven't had a booster in the past six months you are essentially unvaccinated. New strains with different spike proteins keep evolving faster than vaccine development and distribution can keep up. All that said, getting Covid is not a moral failing. If you do feel sick, take a rapid test! If it's negative, test again a day or two later. It is better to know than not to know. Here's a refresh on how to take a rapid test correctly:

If you do get Covid, it is worth getting on antiretrovirals within the first week of symptoms to reduce the overall viral load your body has to fight. If your insurance doesn't cover Paxlovid or Remdesivir, here are other low/no-cost ways to access it:

If you get sick, rest radically even after you stop testing positive on rapid tests. Avoid exercising for at least eight weeks after the fact to reduce the risk of developing long covid.

Regardless of your vaccination status, masking with a KN95 or N95 respirator (or equivalent standards in your country i.e. FFP2/3 in the EU) is the most reliable way to protect yourself and others. If Covid protections are a financial burden, there is likely an active Mask Bloc near you doing free distribution of respirators and tests that would be happy to help you. Some quick tips: if you're wearing a bi-fold mask, flatten the nose-bridge wire completely, then mold it to your nose on your face for a better fit. The best mask is the one that you will actually wear regularly to protect yourself. I really like the selection of styles, sizes and colors from WellBefore:

As school is starting, getting you and your family boosted is one of the best things you can do to protect yourselves. Masking is perhaps even more important. If you can advocate for updating and regularly changing the HVAC filters at your local schools to MERV-13 or higher to keep the indoor air cleaner, that can also make a big difference. Better indoor air quality in schools helps protect kids from illness, allergies, wildfire smoke, and more per the EPA's website.

These are steps you can take to improve air quality at home as well. Corsi-Rosenthal boxes are low-cost and highly effective for cleaning the air indoors.

Frustration with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has reached a breaking point on her home turf, with fed up Queens and Bronx constituents telling The Post they’re sick and tired of being second fiddle to the jet-setting socialist’s primary focus — herself.

Her district offices in the Bronx and Queens offer little to justify the $1.9 million the congresswoman gets to run them — one is only open a single weekday and the other is closed on Fridays, with phones that go unanswered and constituents urged to discuss their problems “by appointment only.”

AOC’s town halls used to be monthly events – now are only held once in a blue moon, there’s virtually no way to get in a question, and sometimes she only phones in and doesn’t bother coming in person, galled constituents said.

“This woman has done nothing for the community she was once again elected to serve,” said Lauro Vazquez of Woodside, Queens.

Vazquez echoed a sentiment heard in all corners of AOC’s bi-borough district — that they and the “mundane” issues they care about — jobs, public safety, traffic — are an afterthought for a representative with her eyes on the national stage.

The perception turned into a reality last week at a town hall in Jackson Heights, when AOC gave a packed auditorium of people just under an hour of face time before dashing for the exit to an idling SUV.

She took only six questions.

The public meeting had already been postponed from its original date because the lawmaker fell ill after wrapping her nationwide Fighting the Oligarchy tour with Bernie Sanders.

“Of course, it’s cancelled — too busy jet setting around on private jets screaming about ‘oligarchs’ and setting up her bid for a POTUS run,” said Vazquez. “This woman has done nothing for the community she was once again elected to serve.”  

“It’s hard to find a private plane – it’s Easter weekend,” mocked Jackson Heights resident Tatiana Lacatus of the cancelled event. “She is too big for us.”

Elmhurst’s Ramses Frias, a Republican City Council candidate, called Ocasio-Cortez an “absentee landlord” disconnected from the reality of her working-class constituents.

“She’s flying around on private jets, talking about the oligarchy, which is not really resonating with the regular guy – the person going shopping over here at the supermarket,” he said, sarcastically adding, “She’s a rock star.”

On matters big and small, critics in her district — which includes Astoria and Jackson Heights in Queens, and the South Bronx — said AOC is failing the people that put her into office.

She has done little on a controversial $8 billion casino proposal by Mets owner Steve Cohen on parkland near Citi Field, which opponents fear will become a blight on the community.

At the town hall, all AOC could do was shrug off the concerns.

“The Citi Field Park has been redistricted out of my district,” she said. “I have respectfully made my position on this known to folks who are weighing in on it. I don’t really have anything to do on that besides making my position known.”

But critics said she will pounce on an issue that suits her — even if it is nowhere near her district.

She made headlines in 2021 by briefly volunteering to work at a Houston food bank and help raise more than $5 million for Texans after the state was devastated by winter storms – yet some of her own constituents said she did little to assist New Yorkers that same year who were slammed by Hurricane Ida and still dealing with the pandemic.

The congresswoman paid only lip service after the Trump administration last month announced it was cancelling $200 million in grants for climate-friendly “cloudburst projects” that help absorb heavy rains, according to critics. Some of these projects were slated for parts of flooding-plagued parts of Queens.

But in March she loudly advocated for Columbia University graduate student Mahmoud Khalil, who is not her constituent, after the anti-Israel activist was arrested and detained.

“Mahmoud was a Columbia student — but our office has been able to take the lead on that case for the New York City delegation,” she boasted at the town hall.

Locals expect more from the lawmaker who recently boasted about commanding crowds of 86,847 people, including in far flung places like Missoula, MT, and Nampa, ID.

“I wish she did more,” admitted Aimee Rosato, an AOC campaign volunteer. “We don’t need a casino, it drives me a bit wild.”

“She will help if it gets her name on national issues,” sniffed Jackson Heights’ Gloria Contreras. “She’s about her and getting worldwide attention while ignoring her constituents.”

Even fellow comrades are tired of the schtick.

“She’s always on TV trying to build up her profile – not to represent her neighbors and fight for funding for her constituents,” a longtime lefty Queens pol told The Post.

Another slap in the face came this week after her office asked business owners to fill a survey about the impact of tariffs, which was viewed as a shameless attempt to bash President Trump’s policies and elevate herself on the national scene.

“Now you are digging for dirt?” slammed retired nurse Jeanette Geary

Many pointed to a failure not just to bring economic development to her district — but to sabotage it, like killing the deal to bring an Amazon headquarters to Queens after she first got elected. It would’ve created 25,000 jobs and was backed by most of her constituents.

“We need to focus on good healthcare, living wages, affordable rent. Corporations that offer none of those things should be met w/ skepticism,” she posted on X at the time.

“She killed the Amazon deal, ghosted her district, and thinks viral TikToks make her a legislator,” said Republican mayoral candidate and Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa.

One of AOC’s two district offices, in Astoria, is open only one day a week and is shared with Queens Councilwoman Tiffany Caban, a fellow socialist. Typically, Caban’s workers are forced to take in-person messages left for AOC because the congresswoman isn’t regularly staffing the office, sources said.

Ocasio-Cortez’ main constituent office in the Bronx’ Hunts Point is closed Fridays and shuttered for long lunch breaks the other four days.

When The Post paid a visit, a Spanish-speaking constituent, who was seeking help on an immigration matter, had to wait outside the office for about 30 minutes until 1pm before she was allowed to enter.

Phone calls usually go unanswered, leaving the public with no way to contact staff unless they show up in person. 

And when they do, they are met by an intimidating sign at the door at the Astoria office demanding “by appointment only” — or a surveillance camera and iPad check-in in the Bronx, where they have to give personal information before they can talk to a worker on issues.

Forget about actually seeing AOC in town.

She has spent at least $101,788 in campaign funds on flights across the US in just the past year, Federal Election Commission records show. 

She spent three days in March and five days in April with Sanders on their national oligarchy tour. 

Many believe she is eyeing the White House.

She raked in a jaw-dropping $9.6 million in campaign donations during the first quarter of this year, shattering her own personal record and fueling rumors of a future presidential run.

Her office did not respond to questions about how often the congresswoman was in her district in the past year, only boasting she is the most popular NYC politician, according to a Siena College poll in April.

“She is a constant presence in the district and deeply engaged with the issues that matter to her constituents” her chief of staff Mike Casca told the Post.

However, Councilman Robert Holden, a moderate Queens Dem, said he “hears from her constituents constantly — and AOC is nowhere to be found.”

“She can’t be bothered doing mundane constituent services like addressing quality of life issues in her district,” he said.

Holden added: “She’s too busy trying to make our entire country into a carbon copy of the failed Soviet Union — Queens and the Bronx deserve better.”

I can't even imagine what COVID did to me. I had it twice before I could get a vaccine. (In my country, it was rolled out stage-wise. Basically, front-line workers got them first, then old people, then people of my parents' age, then me & the people in the age range b/w 18-45, & then younger children. So, b/w Oct 2020 and April 2021, I had covid twice.)

The first time I had it with my father, he barely made it out. He was in ICU, bi-pap. It took him literally 5 months to recover and another year and a half to come to his somewhat pre-covid health. I was with him in the hospital. He would've been in total isolation if I hadn't followed him (DW, I wasn't admitted to the ICU). On top of that, he is a patient with epilepsy. After covid (& still), he had to take more medicines than he was taking earlier.

The second time I had was absolutely harrowing. My ability to think just vanished for a week. That too happened during the week of assignment submission. I think that had made my immunity so weak that I get cold & flu every season (which had never happened before). Last year, I got sick 5 times, that is once every two months. Also, this year, I have had constant stomach issues (and the fucking joke is that it happened once after eating groundnuts which I was never allergic to begin with).

Also, this whole thing fucks up with your motivation & your belief system. You're not the person you were anymore. This whole thing left me with so much scepticism. The first time when I was in the hospital, I saw body bags every two days. It shakes to your core. When you see death being so near to you & you know whether your dad will survive, it fills your heart with dread.

And then I see news that people refuse to wear masks. It fills me with rage. The only thing that protected my mother & my sister from covid the first time was they wore masks.

it’s actually been a rather recent discovery for me. because while i’ve known about asexuality since i was like 14, my understanding of it was pretty superficial until about a year or so ago.

during college i’d hear my friends talking about sex and how great it was or i’d read in fanfic about how it was this incredibly pleasurable thing and be like “hm. that is not how i feel during it but maybe i just haven’t been with the right partner.” but i’d had a couple enjoyable experiences, so the possibility of being aspec simply did not cross my mind. especially as i grew more comfortable and confident in my bisexuality. while i know it’s flawed now, my line of thinking at the time was, “i can’t be ace because im bi.”

i think it was hard for me to figure it all out because sex was always fine, it was just seldom to never something i thought to do unless it’s what my partner wanted. like i didn’t mind it. but apparently lots of people enjoy it a great deal and want to initiate it on their own. i’ve never really been one of those people.

and it was easy to write off/ignore for a long time as i thought my lack of want to have sexual encounters had to do with trauma/mental illness, but as i worked through and processed it all, my desire (or lack there of) stayed the same.

so it’s really only been within the past few months of somewhat frantic googling and discussions with people who are ace that i realized all signs were pointing to aspec. i mean all signs have been pointing there for a while. just look at this text i sent my friend scott back in 2021.

but i didn’t have the words/label to adequately describe what i’ve always felt. like i can’t tell you how many trips i made to the gynecologist to try and “figure out” what was “wrong” with me. but now i know there’s nothing wrong with me. i just don’t really feel sexual attraction. and that’s okay!! i’m not broken or damaged or whatever thoughts i had from like ages 19-25 about sex and my relationship with it were telling me.

the aspec label itself is one that i’ve only felt comfortable using for the past few weeks, but it definitely feels like the right one. even though having a name for it is a recent thing for me, i’ve always felt this way.

Buck and Tommy aren’t together though, so it wouldn’t be cheating from both perspectives. If you’ve headcanoned them in a deep relationship it might, but in canon it wouldn’t be. I'll start with saying I was shipping buddie since 2021, but arrrrrrr how I hate some fans who thinks that buddie canon can justify anything

First, between coffee date and wedding I'm almost sure will happen at least some weeks, so Buck will have time to defying relationship with Tommy, at least asking about being exclusive (you don't ask people you don't want to be exclusive with to your sis wedding). Second, Buck wants something meaningful and it can't happen from him cheating on a guy HE CLEARLY LIKES, no matter how you tries to prove his not. Third, Eddie and Marisol are in serious relationships and from Eddie's side it can be REAL(as you don't see bucktommy as cheating THIS ONE IS CHEATING) cheating.

Also, Lou was FIRSTLY sight up for 4 episodes, before they made bi Buck and bucktommy arc, and Tim still works on last episodes, do you really think Tommy will end his arc in 7x6 when he is clearly pretty popular? Well, surprise he most likely will stay

Now, the problematic of people like you who screams about buddie being PERFECT couple and it's normal to them to cheat on their partners, who did nothing wrong to them and being supportive and gentle, no matter how long they are dating, should be examine. The Photo (You Know The One)

This is a personal post. Very personal. Very waffling. And TMI. And deals with some mental health issues (and grief stuff and trans stuff and alcohol), so if you decide to read on, be forewarned. Apparently it's too big for tumblr's liking, so i'll have to post this part one then reblog that with part two added on. (seriously, tumblr, it's only just over 1500 words! just lemme post the stupid thing!)

I kept promising @fecklesheckleshacklesschmeckles that I'd try and explain eventually about how The Photo (you know the one) wrought its change upon me. And I got up early this morning and just started waffling and it became this. Apologies in advance! :)

I Have Issues

I'll try to get this background stuff out of the way quick as possible.

~ Alcohol Abuse Issues - see end of section for notes

~ Mental Health Issues - Introvert, social anxiety, chronically self-conscious, shy, past panic attacks, breakdowns in 1989 & 1997, lifelong cycles of depressive episodes, short manic episodes, and some generalised sort of... stasis.

~ Gender Issues - miserable late-childhood and adolescence through to young adulthood due to railing (angry fucking RAILING!!) at myself, at my femininity, at my body spectacularly failing to be the image in my head. Seriously started looking into medical transition in my late teens (we're still in the 1980s here, folks!) but got talked out of it by the gay man I was in a relationship with. Found some self acceptance in my 20s and managed to stop railing so hard at things I couldn't change / stop being quite so angry at myself all the time for soomit that wasn't even my fault. Found a wonderful bi man in my early 30s who completely accepts me (yay!)

~ Grief Issues - *takes a deep breath*

My only sister died in 1992, my closest sibling (brother, Alan) died in 2005, then between 2013 and 2019 we lost two more of my brothers and my brother-in-law (my sister's widower). I'm the youngest of 6 but there's only 2 of us left now.

There's also my best friend from childhood, one my closest fandom friends, others... To live is to grieve, right? There's no life (or love) without death, etc, etc. You have to accept it or you'll drown.

Our cat Eddy died the week before Xmas 2021 and just 20 days later, in the first week of 2022, we had to have my cat familiar, Sparty, put to sleep because his cancer had spread. All the human deaths I've absorbed and kept going from, but THIS was the death that made me weird.

During the days, while D was at work, I became -for the very first time in my life- the only living thing in the household. Even my potted umbrella tree (a present from my sister, it had ended up being in my life longer than my sister had), developed a fungal infection and died.

I developed some new neuroses. I started having to physically check the locks after D had left in the mornings. Check the knobs on the gas stove. When the first anniversary of Sparty's death rolled around, I wore his collar around my wrist for the day and slept that night with his ashes urn in the bed with me.

Are you guys keeping up with this list of misery okay? Because then... my Mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

March to May 2023, I spent a lot of time cleaning cleaning cleaning Mum & Dad's house while we all waited for a place in palliative care to come available. Some of those days were very fraught, as I'm sure you can imagine.

Mum died in the May. Dad tried living on his own for a bit but his health slid, too. By the September, my brother David and I started taking it in turns to spend 3-4 days at a time living with Dad, so that he'd never be on his own in the house. It was exhausting and unsustainable (would've been easier if we'd had a few other siblings around to help share the load!), but we did what had to be done.

Finally, at the start of February last year, Dad went into a care facility (initially just for 4 weeks of respite care, and to see if he liked the place; he's continued living there and is the most independent resident they have).

I could half-way breathe out again.

How I found out I'm aroallo / aro + bi

In honor of pride month, here is the story of how I found out I was aromantic bisexual Summer 2020 (13 yrs old): I realized I wasn't romantically attracted to boys, that I didn't get crushes on boys, and at the time I wasn't aware of the term "aromantic" before and only knew about being lesbian/gay, so I assumed I was a lesbian as I thought I was a girl at the time (before realizing I was trans) and so I thought I must be attracted to girls and identified as lesbian Fall 2020 (13 yrs old): I realized I was trans male and switched to using the term straight assuming I was attracted to women December 2020 (13 yrs old): Realizing I didn't get crushes on women, or men, but was still having sexual thoughts of both genders that led to confusion, was unsure of my sexuality Early 2021 (14 yrs old): Found the term "aromantic asexual" and realized I was aromantic and assumed I must be asexual as well since I wasn't getting the typical "butterflies in my stomach" or "sweating and blushing" that people said was "apart of both sexual and romantic attraction" 2021 to early 2022 (14-15 yrs old): Identified as aromantic asexual, but still had sexual thoughts but assumed since I wasn't having "butterflies in my stomach" or "blushing and sweating" or "getting nervous" I had to be asexual Later in 2022 (15 yrs old): I started to hate being aromantic, I had gotten bullied by peers for stating that I wasn't attracted to men or women, and I didn't want to be aromantic anymore, so I assumed I had a crush on this senior at school and told everyone, but it felt extremely forced, regardless I began to identify as "grayromantic gay asexual" 2023 (16 years old): I started having strong sexual attraction to men, and asked my friend if my sexual thoughts was attraction even if I didn't get the "blushing, sweating, getting nervous, butterflies" signs of attraction and he said I was probably just asexual, so I still identified as asexual grayromantic gay Early 2024 (17 years old): Realized I felt sexual attraction to men and identified as "gay", dropped the grayromantic label as I didn't wanna be on the arospec, and realized I wasn't asexual Late 2024 (17 years old): Realized I also felt sexual attraction for women, and identified as bisexual with a male preference Early 2025 (17-18 years old): Realized I really wasn't romantically attracted to anyone, and all my "crushes" were forced, and that I actually felt really repulsed by romance and I was bullied into forcing myself to have crushes, so I assumed I must be aroace as I still wasn't aware I could be aro without being ace, and identified as such for a few weeks till I talked to some people that were aromantic allosexual and realized I don't need to have "butterflies in my stomach" or have similar reactions to feel sexual attraction and that I can be both bisexual and aromantic

Present (18 years old): aromantic bisexual Due to aromantic allosexual not being widely known I went through a lot of confusion and self hate for years, I hated being aromantic, assumed I had to be asexual if I was aromantic, assumed if I felt sexual attraction I couldn't be aromantic I wish I knew sooner

Warum gehört das zweite A zum IDAHOBITA?

CN: Wiedergabe von trans- und acefeindlichen Meinungen und verschwörungserzählerischem Geschwurbel, Erwähnung von Pädokriminalität

Wieso soll denn da noch ein A rein?, werden sich auch dieses Jahr Menschen fragen. Die Diskussionen erleben wir online oder offline in aktivistischen Kontexten. Soll der 17.5. das bleiben, als was er gegründet wurde, nämlich ein Aktionstag gegen Homofeindlichkeit? So kommt die älteste Abkürzung zustande: International Day Against HOmophobia, kurz IDAHO. Mit den Jahren ergänzt wurden Bi-, Inter- und Transfeindlichkeit, sodass dass das häufigste Akronym IDAHOBIT wurde, mal mit, mal ohne Plus. Als Verein, in dem ace und aro Menschen unterwegs sind und der mit anderen ace und aro Organisationen verbündet ist, kann AktivistA logisch auf ein zweites A nicht verzichten. Das queere Landesnetzwerk in Baden-Württemberg folgte sogar einem Aufruf aus Heidelberg und spricht vom IDAHOBALTI+, erinnert also neben der Aspec- auch an Lesbenfeindlichkeit.

Populären Annahmen zum Trotz gibt es Feindlichkeit gegen ace und aro Menschen, und tatsächlich erleben wir gerade live, wie diese Gruppen zum Hassobjekt von rechten und religiös-fundamentalistischen Gruppierungen im englischsprachigen Raum werden.

Sozusagen von 0 (wie unsichtbar) auf 100 zum Sündenbock für den vermeintlichen Untergang des christlichen Abendlands.

Was passiert da also seit 2021?

Schritt 1:

Es beginnt mit intuitiver Ablehnung als Reaktion auf Sichtbarkeit von bzw. Konfrontation mit besagter Minderheit, die in Form von Spott, Verleugnung und Entmenschlichung daherkommt.

Beispiele:

Diese Reaktion kann unter anderem dadurch ausgelöst sein, dass man das Gefühl hat, die eigene Identität (als Frau/Mann/heterosexuelle cis Person) würde durch die bloße Existenz von Menschen, die anders sind, in Frage gestellt werden.

Schritt 2:

Statt die darauffolgende Kritik zum Nach- und ggf. Umdenken zu nutzen, sieht man sich im Recht und erfindet, in Ermangelung echter Gründe für die Ablehnung, Lügen über die Minderheit, teilweise mit pseudowissenschaftlichem Anstrich, die scheinbar harmlos beginnen, aber recht schnell in Verschwörungserzählungen wie die vom „Großen Austausch“ eingewoben werden. Je nach Erzählung hängt die Pharmaindustrie mit drin, da Asexualität angeblich wahlweise durch Impfungen oder durch Antidepressiva entstehe, oder man greift auf die „Groomer“-Vorwürfe der 1970er zurück. Für diejenigen, an denen die Debatten um Cybergrooming etc. vorbeigingen: „Grooming“ („Heranziehen“) beschreibt, wenn potentielle Täter sich in Missbrauchsabsicht stufenweise das Vertrauen von Minderjährigen erschleichen.

Schritt 3:

Auf diese Weise entsteht nach und nach ein Bild der Minderheit als Bedrohung für die gesamte Gesellschaft im Allgemeinen und (weiße) Frauen und Kinder im Speziellen und einer angeblichen Gefahr für die Sicherheit letzterer und für den Fortbestand der (weißen) Zivilisation und des Status Quo. Gleichzeitig stellt man sich selbst als moralisch überlegenen Menschen dar, der das alles „nur für die Kinder“ tut.

Fazit

Seit einigen Jahren kann man beobachten, wie auf diese Weise öffentliche Hasskampagnen gegen asexuelle und teilweise auch aromantische Menschen entstehen, und wie ihnen dieselben Dinge unterstellt werden, die auch schon anderen queeren Menschen unterstellt wurden und werden.

Aces und Aros sind also von derselben Queerfeindlichkeit betroffen wie alle anderen, die nicht hetero und/oder nicht cis sind.

Genau deswegen braucht und hat der IDAHOBITA/IDAHOBALTI+ ein zweites A.

We really should talk about Kerry Eurodyne

Now before you run off, I think it's important to point something out; As a fandom veteran who been here since early 2021, I think others will agree when I say that the discourse surrounding Kerry has always been a hot topic that comes back around every few weeks- but why does it keep coming back?

I'm well placed to know that ignoring a problem and not talking about it publicly doesn't solve anything; everyone is quick to throw assumption and accusations, to make "callout" post, to blow things out of proportions, to take someones's squick as personal attack, and the mob mentality does the rest; everyone follow whoever is going to be the loudest about an ongoing "fandom drama"

This isn't an attempt to show anyone that they're "wrong" or "right"; there is no right or wrong in this recurring discourse. This post is an attempt at opening an healthy and mature conversation! I come in peace gfhgfh

Prefacing this by saying that I'm not a Kerry fan, and I'm not bisexual. So why the hell do I care? Well to be frank, I don't particularly care, I have my own opinions on the character, but I do care (to an extent) about this "community" and I hate seeing what happened to me happen to others, especially new commers who never meant anything wrong. Nobody deserves to be bullied out of a fandom for sharing their opinions on their own blog/space!

Alright this intro was long but let's get on it- buckle up cause this is going to be a looooot of rambling

Through the years/months, I've noticed something rather sad; this isn't a debate between bisexual people vs biphobic people, as a lot of people might think and assume; this has always been queer people sharing, sometimes in a really awkward and hurtful way, their interpretation of a character (don't block me yet, please hear me out)

Those who know me knows that I personally care a lot about the canon and writers's visions, so first I want to share some posts about Kerry made by his literal "parents"

Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, Narrative Designer at CDPR, shared informations on the different romance interest back in December 2020, on the game's release day

When asked about a MLM relationship option, here what he states:

On a now-deleted comment, RTalsorianGames, original creator of the Cyberpunk tabletop game and by definition original creator of Kerry Eurodyne, stated the following:

Please note that CDPR did in fact consult with Mike himself about Kerry being a MLM exclusive romance!

(Also this isn't a debate about if Kerry cares about V or not, let's not derail this conversation, remember that everyone is allowed to interpret a character and a relationship as they wish)

I wanted to share these tweets to point something really important; there is no "right" or "wrong" label for Kerry, and it all boils down to interpretation < key word

Kerry have multiple states; we HAVE to remember Kerry exist in some kind of cyberpunk multiverse!

We have his 2020 and 2023 self that are confirmed to be bisexual; this is the Kerry Mike and RTalsorian created, the Kerry they have full control and say over; the same young Kerry we see in Johnny's flashback

And then comes his 2077 self, which we see confirmed above as labeled as Homosexual (which again as been approved by Mike himself)

I personally think it's important to start with what his different creators have to say; Kerry is both Mike's and CDPR's character; Kerry is both labeled as being Bisexual and Homosexual

There is a lot of reasons why this change / evolution was made, even tho we all know the main reason; they needed a MLM romance in the game to complete the LI roster. But why take an already established character, a Bi character even, for the Gay romance?

I've seen a lot of people saying that CDPR erased his bisexuality, I understand why it might feel like this, but I don't think it's true or fair! Again, remember that Mike gave his OK for this; he could've at any moment said no, Kerry is HIS baby first and foremost

In game, we learn about Kerry's ex wife and kids; this is something CDPR could've not included at all (and THIS would've been erasing his bisexuality imo) it's not even something that is said out loud, but something to be found by dedicated fans; it's here on purpose, to give depth to the character and to his personal life!

We also see a couple of feminine clothes around his villa; let's not assume anything here, clothes have no genders especially in the 2077 setting, but it can also well point at one-night stand with women and/or multi-gender orgies for example

But, this won't be anything new or controversial, Kerry pushes femV advances in game- this is simply a fact! Like it or not, that's how CDPR's writers, RTAL and Mike decided to evolve Kerry's character for the game; everyone was ok with this

Now comes the root of the debate; Is it homophobic to mod Kerry to be romanceable by a femV? and is it biphobic to not be comfortable with this?

No, and no - (don't leave just yet, please read a bit more)

Remember that I'm "just" a gay man, I've had discussion with friends of all gender and orientation about this topic and it's been enlightning to hear the different opinions on the matter!

As previously mentioned, it all boils down to Interpretation.

The discourse recently came back because someone shared their uncomfortableness regarding mods that change Kerry's preferences; in the post tags, OP made sure to say that everyone was free to do anything, to ship anything, and that this was just their opinion; but obviously the fandom didn't read that part and started to throw accusation around, and here we are (I shouldn't have to remind people that we all are free to share whatever on our respective blogs, if it hurts you just block the person, don't jump them)

OP is a Bisexual Man; a lot of other Bisexual Men related to this post and rebloged it, sharing their thoughts in the tags (I also rebloged it, I know it caused a few people to back off and block me as a result, which I respect totally)

Going to pick up my questions back up to hopefully state my opinions and "analyses" of the situation as clear as possible

Is it homophobic to mod Kerry to be romanceable by a femV?

No, it's not

Kerry is bisexual, he was married to a women, and potentially still have sex with women and fem individuals, these infos are all canon in game.

Kerry pushes femV flirts away; but since he experience attraction to women, who is to say that in someone's own canon, their fem OC isn't a V, and doesn't have Johnny involved, changing how Kerry and their OC meet drastically; Kerry could fall in love with her! He could; he's bisexual after all.

Is it biphobic to not be comfortable with this?

No, it's not

Kerry has a clear preference for men; CDPR choose to show this multiple time in the game, during Johnny's flashback we can see him make out with a masc fan, we can see him being vulnerable with Johnny (imo, his lil crush is showing hard)

I personally haven't seen it/heard it in game, but I've been told that after learning about Kerry's ex-wife, Johnny has a vocal, surprised reaction, has if imagining Kerry with a woman is strange to him

However, there is a lot of biphobic things being said in the discourse, and not in the way you might think of

I thankfully never see the full extent of it; I don't see the obviously biphobic takes, stating that Kerry SHOULD NEVER be with a femV, people being nasty and ATTACKING femV/Kerry shippers; this is never ok, these have been blocked for a long time now

But I sadly see the other takes, which always icked me a bit; the takes that say, "you bisexuality isn't worth of respect if it isn't a 50/50 attraction at all time", takes that are sadly biphobic in nature (making it clear that I'm not pointing finger at anyone, nor am I accusing anyone of being biphobic)

This is what it boils down to, I think, this is the root of the problem

As mentioned before, a lot of Bisexual Men expressed their uncomfort when it comes to femV/Kerry mods; it invalidated Kerry's preference. But this isn't about Kerry, he's fictional, he CANT be hurt by anything, by mods or art or whatever; It invalidate Bisexual Men that share the same preference in Men, Bisexual men that related to Kerry for X or Y.

Bisexuality is a spectrum, queer people has been fighting against Bi erasure for years, but also against Bi stereotypes; and I think this is one of them? (Please correct me if I'm wrong)

Bisexuality isn't a strict 50/50 split preference- it can be! But 60/40, 20/80 and even 99/1 attractions are still Bisexual attractions. I've met a lot of queer people who, despite being bisexual by definition, choose not to label as such (prefering to label as straight or gay depending on their preferences) just because of this "bisexual police" imposing a strict 50/50; "How can you be bisexual, you've only dated men/women" etc

This is what is being imposed in the fandom, this is how it might looks like to people; when you attack a Bisexual Man sharing his uncomfort in seeing people not respecting a Bisexual character's preference, you're telling them "Hey, your bisexuality isn't valid if you have a preference". You're telling them "Your bisexuality isn't correct". You're showing them that you "fixed" a "flawed" bisexual character "that got erased as gay for having a preference" by "modding his bisexuality back"

Kerry being written as MLM exclusive in Cyberpunk 2077 isn't bi erasure; he's still Bisexual, he simply has a strong preference for Men. A preference that he always had, but that can also be amplified after his divorce with his ex wife, for multiple reasons; I also don't have to point out how many queer people in real life explored their homosexuality after being in a hetero-marriage for most of their lives! And that's ok, queer love is an ever evolving spectrum, and I think it's awesome we get more fleshed out characters that explore this in depth

I've seen people compare Kerry to Johnny, and I don't think it's fair; for the simple reason that Kerry is a romance option and Johnny is not.

Johnny express a clear preference for women; however he replies to V (and flirt, in some case) the same way regardless of gender! Kerry on the other end, as previously said, pushed femV's advanced away. Something Johnny can't do since he's not a romance option; tho if he was, and if he was pushing mascV advances away, it would be the exact same situation and same problematic!

Another character that is canonly bisexual is Goro; he replies to V's flirt through text messages the exact same way, he doesn't seem to express any preferences (and no, his "obligation in japan" isn't necessarily a wife, this is heteronormative and another problem all together, not the subject here)

People can express being uncomfortable seeing Johnny with a given gender, or Goro with a given gender; but there isn't any """reason""" to it outside of personal preferences

Kerry situation is problematic because it lies in his clearly, canonly stated preference, how people decide to interpret it, and how it can come off to other queer people who might share sexuality and/or preference with the character

But please; remember that everyone is different. People being uncomfortable with a character bisexuality preference being ""fixed"" shouldn't be too surprising; and if it is, please re-read my post/ You have to be ok with this fact, it's OK to make content that might be uncomfortable for others; this is fiction!

There isn't any Right or Wrong way to be bisexual, to be queer Kerry's bisexuality is perfectly fine; unmodded or modded Everyone is Different; Every Queer experiences is different People relate to characters in different way

Nobody is being misoginist; there isn't any double standard at play

Bisexual people sharing their opinions on their own blogs on how a fandom handle a character's bisexuality isn't biphobic, or an attack to anyone who interpret the character differently!

I promise you nobody is attacking anyone, and a lot of things being said accidently comes off as biphobic on both sides of this eternal "debate"

It all comes down to respecting others interpretations, and agreeing to disagree! Tumblr's filtering system work great, you can easily filter and block tags, or even people if needed

If you don't agree, that's fine, and you're more than welcome to filter/block me if needed; but please do not paint me as biphobic or misoginist, same goes to everyone who shared their thoughts on the matter, these are serious accusation and can wrongfully hurt a lot of people

*rubs hands* certainly! i am glad to have an excuse to talk about one of the best shows that is sooo severely underrated. this got long, i'm sorry, and I barely scratched the surface.

the gifs in question are from a TV show called wynonna earp, it ran between 2016-2021 in canada and on syfy channel in the US, consists of 4 seasons, season 1 with 13 the rest with 12 episodes, and there's also a movie that came out in 2024 on tubi.

the show is based on comics, it's gothic western horror/action/thriller/suspense/comedy/drama monster-of-the-week type of show with an overarching arc and its own lore that keeps developing with each season. it's kind of like supernatural if it didn't hate women and was actually good. as someone who grew up with xena and charmed this show was exactly up my alley from the start.

the titular character is wynonna earp, who is a descendant of the legendary gunslinger wyatt earp, and she's destined to put down 77 revenant demons (outlaws that her ancestor killed with his magic gun peacemaker) in order to break the family curse, revenants are former humans that come back from hell as demons. this is just the starting point, it gets much better and more complex. wynonna is a loveable screw-up and a badass at the same time.

for lovers of old men and implied yaoi there's john henry holliday aka actual doc holliday from history and he's an immortal but also spent almost 150 years down a well as a result of an insane psycho-sexual love triangle between wyatt earp, himself and another guy (it's not explicit but it's basically what happened lmao, and they do 'jokingly' call him 'wyatt earp's boyfriend' at least once), he also happens to be wynonna's on again off again love interest but everyone is bi vibes and flirting on this show not including characters that are explicitly gay/queer.

there's a bunch of loveable main and recurring characters (honestly love everyone in this bar) but of course the main draw has always been the relationship between waverly earp (baby sister of wynonna and saying more about who she is would be spoilery) and officer and later sheriff nicole haught, known as wayhaught. they are basically the show's main romantic couple and they get the main couple treatment which was a first for me with a wlw couple. epic story and epic chemistry and it gets explored. they are basically known as horny monsters but also so in love that cupid himself commented on how in love they are. it's super refreshing to see two women who are allowed to be unabashedly horny for each other, the show doesn't shy away from that, and at the same time their relationship develops and grows deeper every season.

the thing is this show came on scene in 2016, at the height of the backlash to queerbaiting and the bury your gays trope in tv shows (2015-2016 season was particularly egregious with something like over 20 lesbian/bisexual women killed off across many different tv shows) and the fans were hurting and mistrustful, and the showrunner emily andras and the crew and everyone behind the show went 'no, we got you, we are not doing that', first they said that wayhaught will definitely happen without fear of spoiling their show (you have to understand the show barely started, it was like around second episode when nicole and waverly have their meet cute, one of the best ever, imo, and people watching the show, me including, were like 'aw they have such great chemistry, too bad it's not good to happen' and yet the showrunner told us that it will, right away).

and the second most important point is that they said outright that they will not kill off their lesbian/bisexual characters, so when nicole gets shot in S1 she is wearing a bullet proof west specifically as a response to other lesbian characters of other shows that weren't. this show embraced and welcomed a traumatised audience, the one that usually gets overlooked (remember how often shows that cater to queer women get cancelled) and was loved back dearly in return.

it will always have a special place in my heart and i wish it had 15 seasons to explore the lore and story they barely scratched the surface of. but even what we do have is wonderful and infinitely rewatchable, this is a rare show that loves its fans back and has no disdain for enthusiastic people who kept it on the air (there were campaigns too).

tl;dr: it's a great show that i highly recommend. one of my all time faves. found family, monster of the week, it's hilarious, it has heart and multiple queer characters. more people should watch it.

Just this week, I had to interact with extremely racist rhetoric about Asians with a de-ager that genuinely put me in a bad spot mentally, but i dud it becayse i thought that person coud be educated. Since 2021, I've had to watch as droves of people commented & replied & posted racist, xenophobic, biphobic arguments about JayJon simply because they didn't enjoy teen Jon. Arguments saying Jay, who in the story is an immigrant freedom fighter, is a terrorist. Arguments saying Jon right now is better off dead which mocked teen Jon fans for finding any aspect of Jon's bisexuality relatable.

I've been trying to be polite & mostly keeping my thoughts offline the wider Internet & public platforms for YEARS. I know of multiple POC (specifically Asian) Jon & Jay stans who have had to go inactive or delete accounts, because certain people have decided even EXPRESSING, merely saying you like Jon as he is now warrants a witch hunt & microaggressions which they assume is "harmless" because they're unwilling to examine any of their own biases. On top of that, rn many queer DC creatives are also constantly getting harassed and literal war criminals are being upheld as good writers, purely for fanon ship reasons.

Do you have any idea how fucking tiresome it is, to fight conservatives who want my meager rights gone online spewing homophobia because Superman came out, alongside comic fans who gladly take up similar arguments just to get their headcanons to be real? Do you have any idea the mental toll it takes, seeing a character who represents real life struggles of fighting against colonialism who LOOKS so much like thousands of queer POC kids, be called a terrorist & a villain because he is in love with a white character?? Not for any grand reason. SOLELY because he's paired with Jon.

Why should we be nice & polite when all it has gotten me in return is trying to explain to people that hey calling freedom fighters terrorists in a story about US hegemony and saying the bi rep is "not correct" is just fuelling bigotry?

But when teen Jon fans make stupid jokes & give slight pushback, we're the bad guys.

You are not the victim. There's literally thousands of you and like, 10 of us who consistently post. DC comics does not have a grand agenda against you, white boy character enjoyer.

The least we ask for is to leave us alone & just let us enjoy canon Jon in peace but we can't post a meta thread or fanart or fucking ANYTHING without people calling us fake fans & throwing in a little bigoted comment to top it all off. Block us. Again, there's like 10 accounts.

Go through the tumblr tag rn, 90% of it is kid Jon posts. We can't have that fucking 10% though can we? No,that'd be the....idfk the DC agenda of the totally scary homeless freedom fighter boy manipulating the pure, totally powerless white boy who can literally topple nations if he wanted and is a grown man. 👏👏👏👏 congrats, you've identified the Agenda & defeated The Evil by putting down POC characters, their struggles, & looking down upon bi repbecause it diesnt specifically fot your vision of bisexuality or your experience.
