It all started in December of 2018, with a sneak peek on social media from the author and screenwriter of the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them franchise, J.K. Rowling, who, after announcing the completion of her newest screenplay, posted the following phrase on her Twitter: “Rio de Janeiro had better brace itself.”
A month earlier, Rowling had already made a mention about 1930’s Rio de Janeiro in a tweet that led to curious speculation from Brazilian fans of the franchise: what did old Rio have to do with the creator of Harry Potter?
In the following weeks, it was discovered that the author had set her newest film creation in the marvelous city of Rio. The project’s production team, following her lead, began to plan trips to Brazil in order to film certain older areas of downtown Rio and use them as backgrounds for the 3rd episode film of the film series. And Brazil Production Services was the Brazilian production company chosen to head the production unit in Brazil of this international mega-blockbuster.
When Warner Brothers contacted BPS, the job at hand involved the mapping and scanning of dozens of buildings and areas in downtown Rio de Janeiro, where several buildings from the city’s colonial, imperial, and turn-of-the-century periods are located.  This material would then be used by the film’s visual effects team to digitally reconstruct the city circa 1930 by way of computer graphics. The idea was to do something big, exploring the city’s beautiful backdrop that could transport the fans to a magical version of Rio de Janeiro of that time.
Tumblr media
However, the coronavirus arrived in Brazil in March of 2020, causing the production plan and the script to undergo dramatic changes.
Actor Eddie Redmayne, in an interview, spoke about the final version of the film that was released worldwide in April 2022: “The whole section that is set in Bhutan was meant to be set in Brazil … we were meant to travel and go and shoot there. Then COVID hit.” The actor lamented the cancellation of Rio as a main location – and so did we at BPS…
And so, what was supposed to be an intricate shoot in Rio showcasing some of its most interesting architecture turned out to be a production with only one of these locations.  This location was a quick shot at an iconic location in Rio, in which the magical community of the city celebrates the victory of Vicência, a character played by the Brazilian actress Maria Fernanda Cândido.
The location in question was none other than the big house at Parque Lage in Rio de Janeiro, a world-renowned location with that also features Rio’s famous statue of Christ the Redeemer in the background.
The beautiful house was scanned by the BPS team using LIDAR technology, which, according to the company’s Executive Manager Valéria Costa, is a tool widely used for building digital environments nowadays. The technology captures and measures properties of reflected light falling upon structures and, from that data, accurately documents a building’s 3D characteristics, providing the post-production team with high quality raw material to work on for the creation of digital backgrounds.
Tumblr media
Anyone who blinks might miss the lightning-fast appearance of Rio in the final version of the film, but at least it gave a taste, however small, of Rio’s beautiful scenery.  In short, after months of doubt as to whether or not Rio would be the setting for the film, the image below was what was left of the author’s original conception in the final form of the film.
Although disappointed with the shrinking of Brazil’s participation in the project, we look back on the experience philosophically affirming that one scene is better than no scene at all, right?

2022 in a nutshell
Had my first Omakase experience; which cost my date $900 for 2 pax. It was so, so good. I will never forget how rich the uni was, the lobster broth and how fluffy abalone tempura could be
Had my first cat-fished experience twice this year. One had no neck (and no, he isn’t fat) and the other had the audacity to meet me looking so far-fetched from his profile (he still had his jawline in his profile pic)!!!
Had 2 dudes randomly deleting our entire convo on Telegram and un-matching me on apps IN THE MIDST OF A VERY ENGAGING CONVERSATION. Bro???
Had 3 times Stay-home-notice when I have no covid.
Had covid from clubbing after being successfully avoiding it for 2 years.
First time making out with a dude this young in the club, prolly 24 or so.
Got ghosted 251061563 times by dudes randomly in the midst of a really good conversation - no, really, wtf
Papa got admitted into hospital
My close friend got diagnosed with bipolar disorder (BP)
Papa got diagnosed with brain cancer
Shuttling between hospitals visiting papa and my friend
Clients giving trouble at work
Close girlfriend who is constantly late on me for so long, confronting me on why am I avoiding her
Friend’s parents refused to let her take her BP medicine, even though my friend wants to eat her medicine
Sissy got married
Papa refuses to eat medicine
Papa passed away
Friend got better
More ghosting from random ass dudes
Sissy moved out
Had a minor eye op to remove 2 styes and 1 chalazion
Slipped and fell. Multi-fracture on my 5th metatarsal bone and had bone displacement
Travelled out to Phuket in a wheelchair for Company Retreat - all of the above for the first time, in an aircast ( which apparently, is a Singaporean invention!!!)
Bought Bhutan tickets, bought Hokkaido Biz class tickets
More quarrels at home regarding money, helper and assets
Settled administrative papers
More fucked up clients
Birthday was great - no need to wait for a girlfriend that is always late, and then I can’t be angry because it’s my birthday
Me blogging this.
I need this year to end, ASAP.
I am so, so tired. It comes to a point where I don’t mind being taken out of this life - is living supposed to be this difficult though?
All the bad things must end with this year. 2022 shall be the WORSE year of my life and nothing more. I am done with hospital visits and calls. I am done with administrative work.

Beth Whitman - completed the Grand Slam Plus with Racing the Planet. This included running 5 separate events, each 250K, across Georgia (the country), the Namib Desert in Namibia, the Atacama in Chile, the Gobi in Mongolia and Antarctica.
Beth is a traveler first and foremost. With 35 years of travel experience, each year she spends three to four months abroad, combining her love of adventure with vacation and business.
For 15 years she has been running WanderTours, focusing on women-only tours, where she encourages and inspires women to dive deep into cultures and to challenge themselves by getting out of their comfort zone.
She recently discovered running and, at age 50, ran her first marathon. She then discovered ultra-running and has been using these as an excuse to explore remote destinations around the globe that few people ever see.
Most recently she completed the Grand Slam Plus with Racing the Planet. This consisted of running five 250K stage races across four deserts: the Gobi in Mongolia, the Atacama in Chile, the Namib in Namibia, Antarctica and, the one non-desert race, a run across the country of Georgia.
While many people have completed these races, she is part of a small group of competitors (only seven women!) who have completed them in a year's time (OK, slightly longer due to Covid).

We first spoke with Beth - Feb 11th 2020 - Running her 1st Marathon at 50, completing the Snowman Trek in Bhutan.

HOW CAN I GO TO BHUTAN FROM BANGALORE ?
Tumblr media
Embarking on a journey from the vibrant city of Bangalore to the enchanting kingdom of Bhutan promises a unique and culturally rich experience. Nestled in the eastern Himalayas, Bhutan is renowned for its pristine landscapes, ancient monasteries, and a commitment to Gross National Happiness. Traveling from Bangalore to Bhutan involves a combination of flights and ground transportation, along with the necessary permits and careful planning. In this comprehensive guide, we'll explore the steps to undertake this memorable journey.
Flight to Paro International Airport:
The first step in your Bhutan tour package from Bangalore is to book a flight to Paro International Airport, the sole international airport in Bhutan. However, there are no direct flights from Bangalore to Paro. Instead, travelers usually take connecting flights through major Indian cities like Delhi, Kolkata, or Bagdogra.
Choose a flight from Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) to a connecting airport, ensuring that there is enough time for the layover and any potential delays.
Connecting Flights:
Several airlines operate flights to Paro, including Druk Air, Bhutan's national carrier, as well as international carriers like Air India. Research and book flights well in advance to secure the best options.
Be aware of layovers and plan accordingly. The journey to Paro often involves a layover in an Indian city or another regional hub.
Visa and Permits:
Bhutan has a unique entry policy that mandates tourists to book their trip through authorized travel agencies. These agencies assist in obtaining the necessary visa and permits for your visit.
Ensure that you start the visa and permit application process well in advance of your planned travel dates. The travel agency will guide you through the required documentation.
Travel Restrictions and COVID-19 Protocols:
Given the evolving nature of travel conditions, check for any travel restrictions or COVID-19 protocols in place. Stay updated on entry requirements, quarantine rules, and health protocols issued by both Indian and Bhutanese authorities.
Ground Transportation in Bhutan:
Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, the next leg of your journey involves ground transportation within Bhutan. Taxis and pre-arranged transfers are available to take you to your destination.
Bhutan's road network offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas. Consider enjoying some parts of your journey by road to experience the scenic beauty and local culture.
Travel Agency Assistance:
Collaborate with a Bhutanese travel agency for a seamless experience. These agencies not only assist with permits and visas but also help plan your itinerary, arrange transportation, and provide insights into Bhutanese culture.
Bhutan's tourism is regulated, and visitors are required to book a package tour through an authorized agency. This ensures that tourism is sustainable and aligns with Bhutan's commitment to preserving its cultural and natural heritage.
Altitude Considerations:
Bhutan encompasses a range of altitudes, and it's crucial to acclimatize gradually to avoid altitude sickness. Begin your journey in lower-altitude destinations like Paro before heading to higher-altitude places such as Thimphu or Punakha.
Stay hydrated, avoid strenuous activities in the initial days, and allow your body to adjust to the altitude changes.
Travel Insurance:
Consider purchasing comprehensive travel insurance that covers potential emergencies, cancellations, and medical expenses during your trip. Confirm that the insurance policy includes coverage for high-altitude destinations.
Bhutan package tour from Bangalore is a captivating adventure filled with cultural richness and natural beauty. From the vibrant city life of Bangalore to the serene landscapes of Bhutan, this trip offers a seamless blend of modernity and tradition. Remember to plan ahead, collaborate with a reputable travel agency, and immerse yourself in the unique charm of the Land of the Thunder Dragon. Whether exploring ancient monasteries, hiking through pristine valleys, or experiencing Bhutanese hospitality, your journey from Bangalore to Bhutan is bound to be an unforgettable odyssey.

Pluto, Sagittarius
pluto ⇢ tell something supernatural that happened to you I don't have any stories! I'm entirely unromantic about that kind of thing! I will say that I have a good friend that's a triplet and she's had some weird experiences - she woke up in a cold sweat one night and it turned out her brother, half a continent away, had hit his head really badly and was being taken to the hospital at that exact time.
sagittarius ⇢ what places would you like to travel in the future? Bhutan is number one on my list. Generally the places I want to go most are those that seem less westernized. I was supposed to take a month long trip through central Asia before covid (Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan) but now the security situation has changed around there so it might be hard to do that trip. My dream dream trip would be to travel the silk road, from China to Venice. I also desperately want to take a luxury train trip (The Venice Simpson Orient Express or whatever company ends up running the restored original Orient Express cars) and to go on the same Nile Cruise Agatha Christie went on. But I basically want to go everywhere in the world, there's so many places I haven't seen.
+ let's have a sleepover

NEW NATIONAL BRAND UNVEILED FOR FABLED HIMALAYAN KINGDOM
Tumblr media
New brand and tourism strategy set to transform Bhutan’s future.
September 30, 2022: On September 23, 2022, Bhutan reopened its borders, welcoming guests back to the kingdom after more than two years.  At the same time, the country has revealed a new national identity that demonstrates an evolution and a spirit of optimism, destined to inspire pride and spark the imaginations of citizens and visitors alike.
To mark the reopening of the kingdom and to look to the future, Bhutan created a whole new identity for the country to inspire a new vision of the future to its citizens. The result reflects Bhutan’s character and landscapes, history and ambitions: bold, vivid, richly storied and utterly distinctive – rebranding it for a new future, both for its people and its guests who are seeking a different travel experience.
Tumblr media
Bhutan is a Buddhist kingdom, perched high in the Himalayas and renowned for its mountains and monasteries, rich biodiversity, pristine forests, rivers, glacial lakes, waterfalls, and striking natural beauty. Most importantly, it is loved by visitors for the welcome that its people extend to them. The only country in the world that uses the happiness of its people as a guiding principle that underpins everything, Bhutan may be one of the very few carbon-negative countries in the world (in 2021, Bhutan sequestered 9.4 million tonnes of carbon against its emission capacity of 3.8 million tonnes).
Few foreigners have experienced Bhutan's extraordinary nature and culture for themselves. This small nation of only 800,000 people has long practiced a policy of ‘high value, low volume tourism to protect and preserve its peace, its sacred places, and its wildernesses. Like many countries, Bhutan closed its borders in March 2020 in response to Covid. During this extended period of closure, the nation reconsidered its relationship with tourism and developed new policies and plans for the country’s advancement – in particular, for how it can invest in creating sustainable opportunities for its young people. As it reopens to embrace visitors once more, one of the notable changes is the increase in the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF), a daily contribution made by visitors towards Bhutan’s development. The funds raised by the SDF will play an invaluable role in supporting a range of social, environmental, and cultural initiatives, as well as Bhutan’s wider aspirations.
It’s these plans and programs that Bhutan’s brand – and new campaign – is built upon. It offers a rallying cry to believe - in the nation’s capabilities, its values, its global contribution, its responsibilities, and its future.
Tumblr media
To respond with sensitivity and substance to the brief, the team involved spoke to hundreds of people from Thimphu to Lunana, Punakha, and Bumthang to Radi. Conveying the rich tapestry of Bhutan's living culture, which seamlessly weaves together the ancient, the contemporary, and the visionary, quickly became a priority for the new brand. In particular, the younger Bhutanese generation was centered on the brand’s development, ensuring that the new identity reflects their role as key stakeholders in Bhutan’s future.
A vital element of the strategy was to create a new graphic identity for Bhutan—a contemporary interpretation of the country’s heritage that would offer a pathway toward the future. It draws on the Bhutanese flag’s vibrant yellow and orange, with further color palette inspiration from nature — the cypress green of the forests that cover 70% of the country, the blue of Bhutan’s national flower, the Himalayan blue poppy, and a soft black referencing the natural soot from the fires burning in the country’s hearths.
Tumblr media
Using these colors, a completely new graphic identity system was created, which draws on traditional Bhutanese iconographies such as hand-painted architectural decoration, mythical animals, folklore, and symbolism – all reimagined with boldness, sharpness, and dynamism. The vibrant brand identity has already been rolled out across the tourism sector to great acclaim. Soon it will also be seen across government organizations, official websites, National Day celebrations, and even a new postage stamp.
Bhutan’s new tourism policy is part of a nationwide transformation, from the civil service to education and financial reforms. The changes are geared toward forging fresh pathways and creating long-term opportunities for forthcoming generations. The development of the new national brand goes beyond simply creating a new identity, but aims to leverage the power of branding to connect Bhutan, and the stories it wants to tell, with a global audience.
Julien Beaupre Ste-Marie, Managing Director, MMBP & Associates, the branding agency involved, says: “Working closely with the Kingdom of Bhutan to create its new national brand has been a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me and for our team. We are one piece of the puzzle in a much larger era of transformation—it truly feels like history in the making. The learnings we made working alongside such an inspired group of Bhutanese people and international stakeholders will influence how we work for years to come. Similarly, as the world wakes up to the damaging effects of unrestricted mass tourism and tries to find ways to mitigate climate change, this small and mighty country has many lessons to share with the world. Our hope is that our work and this brand help to carry this vision forward.”
Tumblr media
Dorji Dhradhul, the Director General of the Tourism Council of Bhutan, added: “We are so excited that our tourism reopening is timed together with the launch of the new Nation Brand.  Inspired by our new brand, and with a renewed focus on our time-tested high-value low volume approach to tourism, we aim to offer an elevated experience to all guests who visit Bhutan, while at the same time creating well-paying and professional jobs for our citizens. We like to believe that Bhutan can offer that space and place for guests to reconnect with themselves, with Bhutanese people, and with the world at large. We are happy to welcome you to experience – Bhutan Believe!”
Carissa Nimah, Chief Marketing Officer, of the Tourism Council of Bhutan, concluded: "Bhutan is already an incredibly alluring destination, yet it has so many layers to be revealed and shared. It is a huge honor and a pleasure to be part of this transformation, and to help facilitate tourism as a strategic driver of positive change and growth across the country. The new Bhutan brand is exciting – it’s so different from anything else. It’s so vibrant and fun, yet also captures the inspiration, mystique, spirituality, adventure, and energy of Bhutanese culture. I look forward to promoting the new brand and tourism strategy globally.”
