Rediscovering the world of grains

We grew up with the aroma of freshly made wheat atta chapatis topped with a dollop of ghee, sometimes with a sprinkle of powdered sugar, and rolled tightly. Those were the moments, when grabbing a bite of these rolls was an absolute bliss, and for generations, they have been a part of our daily meals. Chapati or Bhakari was not just a part of our meals but also an important source of nutrition.
A shift in our eating habits
However, with the changing times, our eating habits have measurably changed. We are now more focused or concerned about the food we consume, often following trending diets and forgetting about the plethora of grains nature has provided us! For example, wheat, which we consume daily, comes in many varieties, including Khapli, Bhalia, Sharbati, and Lokwan, each offering different nutrition, texture, and taste.
Khapli Wheat offers excellent nutritional properties as it is high in dietary fiber and low in gluten. Moreover, it is recommended as diabetes-friendly because it has a low glycemic index. Similarly, each wheat variant possesses unique properties.
Nutritious Millets
In addition to wheat, millet has been an integral part of Indian meals. Millets such as Ragi, Jowar, and Bajara are a powerhouse of nutrition. Ragi is rich in calcium, which helps manage bone health; Jowar is packed with dietary fiber ,aiding in weight management and Bajara contains dietary fiber, iron, and minerals.
Including these grains is crucial to maintaining a nutritious diet. In the past, our grandmother understood the importance of incorporating different grains into the diet. Mixing Soyabean or Ragi with wheat before grinding was a common practice. This traditional wisdom aimed to incorporate the nutrition of different grains in a single meal.
Growing atta market
With the change in times and a busy life, many of us have forgotten this practice and tend to purchase the wheat atta easily available in the market. We often limit ourselves to single-grained flour.
However, the atta market has become huge, and many brands offer a variety of atta to cater to modern nutrition needs. Brands like Taste for Life have developed a World of Atta concept under which they provide around 15–16 unique Atta variants. Along with Sharbati wheat, they also have nutritious Khapli, Gujarat special Bhalia, Lokwan for Parathas & Puran Poli, as well as several millet attas. Their enriched atta range blends wheat with nutritious ingredients such as Ragi, Soyabean, and Methi seeds, which not only help to add flavor to our chapati but also provide the nutrition of various grains in our daily meals.
Why incorporating different grains matters
Incorporating such multigrain or variety of flours in our diet may help to get significant benefits:
-High dietary fiber helps in Weight Management
-The diverse grain may help to maintain good gut health
-Combined goodness of multiple grains in a single multigrain chapati or mixed millet bhakari
In today’s hectic life, it’s difficult to follow the traditional methods that our elders have followed. But the solution lies in reconnecting with our old traditions and embracing a wider variety of grains. Whether through traditional practices or opting for the variety of flours from the World of Atta, we can make our every meal nutritious! Explore the full selection of atta varieties from Taste for Life.

Sinhagad fort, Maharashtra, India
Sinhagad fort visit is the most excellent way to spend your weekend break.
Located 50 kms from Pune Maharashtra, it is fun to ride up-to the Fort passing through the dazzling Ghats and fog.Singhagad Fort belongs to the mighty Bhuleshwar range which is 3900 feet above sea-levels. For all those who do not have vehicles to reach this magnificent getaway from Pune can catch the bus, auto or cabs from Pune.
One afternoon, on Saturday in the month of August we started at around 1.30pm from Pune Maharashtra. After halting at few stops to capture the nature’s beauty we reached the parking area at around 3.00pm.
We started walking towards the fort top enjoying the reachy breeze and astounding scenery of sinhagad fort.
Then we explored the fort and then went to a place and sat down looking at the huge and rocky mountains. Then we enjoyed bhakari pithala with Kanda bhaaji and mataaka daahi, which was served by the locals with glorious sunset and shiny moon on our heads. It felt like sun was welcoming moon to shine. We spend some time there and started walking down with two locals because it was pretty late. Those local guys helped us with our route. Within half and hour we reached the parking area and we headed back with the beautiful memories of the trek and beautiful sunset....
