5 Minute Max Rep BFR (blood flow restriction)Split Squats ~ Set the clock ⏰ for 5 minutes and alternate back and forth between Legs doing 30 second on your right leg and 30 seconds on your left leg for 5 consecutive minutes. Notice the bands wrapped around my leg at the glute fold. ~ Many of you are asking what is BFR?? Simple stupid BFR (blood flow restriction) training is meant to restrict venous return while still letting arterial flow simply by wrapping the uppermost portion of your legs (see video at glute fold) Why would someone want to do this?? By restricting the veins and not the arteries, blood can keep pooling into the muscle working and ends up getting trapped there. By forcing all of that blood to the working muscle without letting it escape you end up with a insane pump. But more important than the “pump” the real theory is that BFR leads to cellular swelling which forces the muscle into new growth in addition to the gnarly metabolic stress it creates as well. I suggest wrapping the bands at a 7/10 on the tightness scale. #antitransformationtuesday 🤔 Left was before gym closing, right is 10 weeks later. For the past 10 weeks I primarily did full-body @bfr_bands training in an effort to retain size since I only had access to resistance bands, dumbbells that maxed at 50lbs and bodyweight exercises. The BFR training science proved to be true. I kept my size, and even added a little in my arms with MUCH lighter weight than I am used to lifting. Hypertrophy gains for sure. The down side is that after returning to the gym this week, I am noticably weaker when going back to the heavier weight. I had to drop the weight on every lift by at least 10-15%. And even after that, I could not match my previous reps using the lighter weight. Here are the Pros and Cons of doing only BFR training for the past 10 weeks. Pro - More size with less weight - Shorter workouts - Less chance of injury - Less central nervous system fatigue - Quicker recovery Con - Reduced strength If your only goal is hypertrophy 100%, then this type of training is likely perfect for you. If you want to focus solely on strength (ie. power lifting) then you likely won't want to use BFR at all. If you want to gain size and strength, then go with regular compound lifts and work in some BFR training for isolation work at the end of your workouts. Still feeling off from getting my wisdom teeth out. Since I didn’t feel up to sprinting intervals I decided to increase the intensity of the workout by trying these BFR bands again today. I used them for a 4mph high incline walk on the treadmill. They were a little tighter than last time. Still not sure I got it right. My legs are more tired than usual, but yesterday’s leg workout was killer #bfrtraining #occlusiontraining #fitness #embracethesuck

I will be posting the sets and weights in my story later today, as usual. . 🔸BFR Dumbbell Stiff-leg Deadlift 🔸BFR Resistance Band High Rows Superset 🔸BFR Diamond Push-Ups 🔸BFR Dumbbell Low Row Superset 🔸BFR W Raise 🔸BFR Drag Curls . The entire workout took about 45 min and I was drenched by the end. The short rest times and supersets ensure that you are done quick and constantly moving. . Notice that I have a tricep exercise included in my pull day. I also include a bicep movement on my push days. One of the great things about BFR training is that you recover faster from the workouts, allowing you to increase frequency and focus on the areas you want to. . BFR training is surprisingly effective. It almost feels like a "cheat code" for muscle hypertrophy. 😁 Shorter workouts, lighter weight, and more results. I will share another post before long highlighting this in more detail along with the research that supports these results. .
