Why I Became a Writer

This is my first post in 2023

I just attended my first day of a 12-week course and it reminded me of why I wanted to be a writer.

As a young girl before I could even form words, let alone sentences I would mimic what I would see in books and try to write the letters inside that very book. 

Little did I know it was an expensive set of encyclopedias, you know the world’s original Google. All I know is my grandmother was mad! 

So I began to watch television shows and movies. My favorite show was Murder She Wrote and the movie was The Toy. 

I had never met any black writers before and Mr. Brown never gave up no matter how many times he was told to GET OUT, GET OUT,  GET A JOB, GET A JOB, GET A JOB! 

So I won’t either. The movie The Toy Made me want to become a writer.

🌸I’ve lived many lives in my short 34 years. As i’m looking at photos granny sent to me, photos from my mom to her, dad, from me with my grandparents, from the most strangest photos of people I kind of remember...

🖤😍There are always pockets of goodness to grab.

🖤There are lessons to see & understand with fresh eyes that kid the foundation for my own beliefs, strengths or insecurities…

🚜I used to love helping my grandpa when he was building my grandma her dream house.

Moving dirt, digging, bringing tools, spilling stuff and watching his face turn 😡red as he would give me another task away from him…

🌸Trying to belong.

🌸Trying to be perfect.

🍑I loved picking peaches with their neighbors bcuz I thought I was really contributing, and helping someone who could use it, annnnd they would let me eat some at the end of the day.

Still remember them being the juiciest things ever... 🤤🍑

I remember my first pair of PINK boots 👢that grandma got me, (she would often be the one buying and sending clothes before I was taken from mama) but these were extra special.

My daughter loves pink things and boots 👢💗

🚔My first pair of “combat boots” came from my big Sis, and I remember her taking me to steal socks 🧦😂 so i’m not sure if those were stolen too…

💗🌸💗However the Pink ones! I got to pick them out, they represented something about ME and not about the fact they were donated, hand me downs or on sale...

I see that in my daughter today... Truly shows herself through her fashion 💃🏽

💜I remember being told I was too black to be white and too white to be black too sensitive for feeling either of those things —

and feeling a HUGE IDENTITY CRISIS inside but I masked it with a smile, tried to “be good”without knowing that’s what it was then.

🐐🐾🐎I remember loving animals.

Being outside and just being in the sun or watching the moon, the clouds, feeling the warmth, it all brought me so much joy.

🌸Space to imagine & dream.

🌸Space to wonder 💭

Here we are today…

🛟Life is about being a better you, in whatever way that looks like that brings joy and value!

🛟Life is about evolving into a new hobby, new version, more aware being...

💚We each have work to do, so focus on what excited you most of all and go do more of THAT!

If I can teach my daughter that lesson 😅faster than I learned it, that she is here to learn to grow into herself, accept herself,

💗🌸love herself as the true blueprint she is—-

to show others what she needs and wants and by doing so, her soul family will see her shine and arrive, then I think I’d be proud of myself. 🌸

All of this feeds into my own healing & #mywhy for my biz Soulpreneur Life I know i’m not alone and people are seeking meaning and not just money when they find me…

They are seeking purpose and clarity when they find me…
