💥 Macadamia Madness 💥 These showed up at my door last week. (Why it took me this long to post is a long story. 😄) There were 4 in the package but I immediately opened one to try it out, and ended up eating the whole thing (before it could make it into a photo) because it was so damn GOOD! @ketobrick keeps one-upping themselves with these flavors. With a name like macadamia madness I expected a strong macadamia taste. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised when it tasted like a Mounds candy bar (but obviously not as sweet). Pure nutty, coconutty, and chocolatey goodness. If someone says that you can't build muscle with keto... ...they likely have never really tried (and didn't spend the time to become fat adapted). ...they are just plain talking out of their ass. ...their training was lacking in some way. Fat and carbs are both fuel. Effective training combined with adequate fuel will result in muscle gain. It really is that simple. I'm glad @mito_red_light products are built so well. Almost 2 years and still rocking! Getting back to some consistent red light therapy to help this left shoulder rotator cuff heal up. Apparently, it was not ready to handle the progress I have been making since surgery. At first I was worried that I had reinjured my shoulder labrum. 😳 After doing some extra research and resting for most of this week I can tell that it is most likely a strained supraspinatus (and maybe an aggravated infraspinatus). So, back to letting the shoulder rest for a bit, along with some PT exercises to help get it back on track. It's annoying, but not addressing it and allowing it to get better will just result in having to go under the knife again. 🔪 Pressing and pulling movements are of the table for a bit. I am pretty pleased with how well this ribeye turned out cooking it in an air-fryer. 🥩 It even has some nice crispy caramelized pieces of fat. 🤤. I simply marinated it in some low sugar teriyaki for a couple hours, gave it a light coat of olive oil, and then threw it in the fryer. 6 min at 360. Flipped it, and then another 8 min at 400. Anyone else tried cooking steaks in an air-fryer? What is your primary goal for chest development? Here are some tips. 👇🏻 Basically, it comes down to optimizing strength vs hypertrophy. If you had to choose one, which would it be? If strength (ie. powerlifting) is your goal then you will obviously want to focus on flat bench pressing in order to get better and more efficient at that particular lift and skill. You will also likely be working in lower rep ranges with heavier loads in order to increase your 1 rep max If hypertrophy (physique/aesthetics) is your goal then optimal training will be different. Flat bench press becomes a much lower priority. Instead, focus on these (and in this order): - Incline Presses - Adduction (Chest Flys) - Decline Presses The upper chest is super important for a big/full look, but it can be more difficult to develop well, which is why it should be the main priority. As an example, I train chest 3 times per week. Each time I include something that focuses on the upper chest, and I usually make it the first lift of the workout. Two days will have some type of fly and two days will have something that focus on lower chest. Also, I usually focus on sets in the 8 - 12 rep range. This will result in greater volumes vs heavy, low rep sets. Hypertrophy increases when volume increases. 👍🏻 Don't get me wrong, you can still build a big chest powerlifting, and you should still be trying to get stronger (progressive overload) with higher rep hypertrophy work. But if you want the best results possible for your particular goal, then pick your lane and stick to it the majority of the time. So what is your main goal? Today's breakfast! Do you know about the sweetener Allulose? 👇🏻 The maple syrup I am using is made by @simpletruth4u (their products are found exclusively at Kroger) and it is basically pure, maple-flavored allulose. I have tried many non or low glycemic syrups and this one is my current favorite. Allulose is a very interesting non-glycemic sweetener that is gaining popularity (for good reasons). It is about 70% as sweet as sugar but it has zero impact on blood glucose and does not cause an insulin response. In fact, Allulose reduces the glucose response of other foods when eaten together. 😯. More about Allulose: Tastes like sugar. 70% as sweet as sugar. Bakes like sugar. With a strong retention of moisture, Allulose has specific benefits for baked goods. Freezes like sugar. Is labeled as a carb on the nutrition facts but is approved by the FDA to NOT be listed as sugar. 1/10 the calories of sugar. Is a ZERO net carb ingredient. Not metabolized or broken down in the body. Meaning: it does not impact blood sugar. Is naturally found in nature but must be derived via a enzymatic conversion process. Is safe for anyone on a ketogenic diet. Your body will not metabolize Allulose as a sugar. For most people, excess Allulose consumption will cause gut irritation. (Much like erythritol.) Setbacks will happen... Keep your eyes on the prize and don't give up! Down 8 lbs of fat and up a couple pounds of muscle in 30 days. I'm not gonna lie... When I took that pic in Feb I was utterly discouraged. During recovery, after surgery, I gained fat and lost muscle. A double whammy for anyone who is into bodybuilding. For a moment or two I even thought maybe I had already hit my peak. Maybe I would not be able to get back to where I was. 🤔😟. Those thoughts were quickly replaced with thinking, "I did not come this far, to just come this far." I KNOW I am capable of more. And now that one of the things that was holding me back has been fixed, I am hell bent on making the most of the opportunity. Adversity has a helluva way of making you realize where your priorities truly are. You can choose to give up, or you can treat it as a challenge and choose to be unstoppable. The choice is yours... But I can assure you that only one of those choices will be one that you are proud of. Back in the business of making gains... WOOOOOOO! I'm definitely not where I was before in terms of strength, but it is coming back at a steady rate. And that's enough to make me very happy. It may take 3 or 4 or 5 months... Or hell... Maybe a year. But progress forward is what matters. There's no use in crying over lost gains. I just need to get my ass back in gear and earn it (again). What's important is that I have the opportunity and capability to make it happen. Not the type of transformation that I usually post... 🤔👇🏻. As you can see, I did not lose much muscle while recovering after surgery. The only areas that got noticably smaller are my left shoulder and arm, and they are coming back pretty fast. You will also notice that there is more fat gain than muscle loss, and that was the plan. One of the main reasons I am back in the gym 10 weeks after surgery, vs the 16 weeks that it usually takes, is my calorie intake during recovery. Studies have shown that after a surgery that causes trauma to the body, your metabolism ramps up in order to help repair the damage. A recommended calorie intake during these first few weeks is 15 - 20 calories per pound of body weight. For me, that is 3500 to 4000 calories per day. So that is what I ate, and I have been eating a hyper caloric diet throughout recovery. It was not easy. It basically meant eating even when I was not hungry. The first two weeks were the most difficult since the pain meds totally crushed my appetite. But it comes down to this 👉🏻 You have one opportunity to heal, and countless opportunities to work on losing fat. Be smart... Focus on healing, get in the fuel your body needs to heal, and then address the fat gain later. 👌🏻. Or, you can try to not gain fat, extend your recovery time, and potentially compromise your chance to heal properly.
