the last hours was actually so tragic. like maybe it’s the edwardian london thing that makes it seem more tragic to me but damn all that miscommunication made them all so LONELY and isolated when they didn’t have to be. in tid even when will thought he was cursed he had jem, and even when he was being awful to tessa she still had other people in her life like jem and sophie. jem and tessa had no family, but they had people they talked to and shared their fears with. in the dark artifices, they’re this really strong family unit, the tragedy is horrible but there’s a network around them all (blackthorns + emma + kit) so no one’s really alone.

but in the last hours like….these kids HAVE parents and friend groups and supposed best friends even, yet they seem more isolated than any other series mains. james doesn’t tell anyone about the gracelet and what he went through (fair enough bec it was terrible and traumatising). but then it’s not just that. cordelia isn’t telling anyone what she’s going through. lucie isn’t telling anyone what she’s going through (trying to bring someone back to life???) – and they’re supposedly best friends and future parabatai! and matthew isn’t telling anyone what he’s going through, not his parabatai either, and no one wants to address how visibly he’s suffering. and grace, she’s actually alone. and it just seems so lonely and sad and they all seem so isolated even though they shouldn’t be, because unlike the tid and tda mains, the tlh lot actually have parents and their own homes (for the most part). the start of chain of thorns especially is just really painful because they’re all suffering ALONE when they all have people around them they just don’t bridge the gap. it just feels so lonely which is almost ironic bec what about the friendship of the merry thieves and the parabatai bonds and best friendship?

’ll never understand why Lucie and Cordelia become parabatai. how good friends are they really? we know Cordelia and Lucie hung out a few times (??????) and wrote letters to each other but how well do they know each other?

(which is ironic of Lucie to think because this is the same bitch who hid herself working with grace from Cordelia to save Jesse lmao and deep down, she probably knew Cordelia wouldn’t of been okay with it)

Cordelia had gone a sickly color. “How could you not tell me that?”, she whispered. “You were going to go ahead with the ceremony, then, without warning me? What if something bad happened to you during it?- what if the ghosts meant harm?” - Cordelia responding to Lucies secret

“Did you know the difference when you chose to secretly befriend Grace behind my back, and never tell me about it at all?”-cordelias anger to Lucie about teaming up with grace to bring back Jesse from the dead

“I didn’t know how much my working with her would hurt you”, Lucie said. “I doubt James knew either. You never let on that you felt anything for him. You- you’re so proud, Cordelia.”- lucies rebuttal to Cordelia when she comes back from Paris

so I’ve posted four different arguments or statements from Lucie and Cordelia over the issues they’ve had. Cordelia didn’t tell Lucie she was in love with James. why the pity game? I DONT KNOW BUT I HATE THAT BLOODY WORD. honestly Lucie is right. Cordelia is way too proud, as is James. I’m sorry but I don’t get this whole “if I told you I love your brother, you would pity me.” but back in chain of gold, Cordelia likes the fact that they could be sisters in law and even thinks James may actually love her. so I don’t really understand this whole pity thing.

I think the reason Cordelia didn’t want anyone to know was that she then found out about Grace and thought people may in a way pity her since everyone assumed grace and James were in love.

moving on to Lucie seeing ghosts. I can see why Lucie didn’t share it because Cordelia made a whole fairy tale thing about how Lucie lives in fantasy world and they can’t be parabatai? I get why she didn’t say anything and by then, they were passed not giving a fuck about communicating. should she have said something? yes but it’s not like these two are bffs

there is no reason these two should be parabatai. they don’t communicate for starters. there’s too much drama and miscommunication. CC presents parabatai as being closer than brothers but not as close as lovers so wouldn’t you think that soon to be parabatai should be telling each other stuff?

like what bad would it have done if Lucie said “hey Cordelia, I know you don’t like grace but I’m using her help to bring a ghost back to life that I have cared for. please keep this between us. he means a lot to me.”

and why couldn’t Cordelia say “Lucie, I understand and I will keep it between us because I know you wouldn’t do anything to harm me on purpose. if you have feelings for this ghost, I support you. also I do not care for grace because I am in love with your brother and have been.”

mayhap Lucie could then say “oh James is such a buffoon! how could he not see what is in front of him? thank you for trusting me Cordelia”

y’all can critique my summary all you want 😭 (I tried ok?) but I don’t really see any harm in sharing the secrets they had? because maybe if they did or had some honest convos, and actually grew, I could see why they deserve to be parabatai. but I haven’t seen anything from their relationship that shows they should be. they don’t communicate, they keep every secret to themselves because god forbid someone pities or hates them, and they’re basically strangers towards the end.

Lucie even says in pov during the edom thing if she really knows Cordelia? and I think Cordelia thinks the same thing at another time. these two question if they know each other. parabatai don’t have to be perfect but they should have some sort of bond. and I don’t think they should be questioning if they know their friend at all. when it comes to the parabatai bond, CC is incompetent when forming it.

1. Alec does everything for jace while jace treats Alec like absolute shit. Alec can’t form his own thoughts or feelings without thinking about jace. -CC who thinks everyone loves jace

2. Will is nothing without Jem. like if you take Jem out of the equation, Will is an absolute monster but put jem into the equation, hmmmm maybe this dick can be tolerated for a second. Will is only tolerable because of Jem. but also never forgiving Will and Tessa for fucking right after they get notification Jem has died. -CC who thinks Tessa settling for Jem and waiting for him to die so then Tessa can have Will is the best of both worlds apparently

3. Emma and Julian- not even touching that. I’m so tired and over the unforbidden trope CC is obsessed with. it’s old

4. Matthew and James- James was prisoned by a bloody bracelet and Matthew kept the fairy potion a secret from everyone and ends up turning to alcohol. this is kinda harder to criticize because they are both being prisoned by their own thing. Matthew didn’t have to turn to the potion but belial would’ve found a way to torment James. so I don’t know if he could’ve got out of that. could’ve just told Tatiana no to cutting briars or told his parents on her lmao so as much as I want to like this bond, matthews feelings get pushed to the side and golden herondale steals the spotlight once again smh. James and his feelings take a front seat while Matthew is apologizing for feeling anything and his arc is nonexistent (JUST MY OPINION I DONT WANT NO SMOKE 💨)

in conclusion, these two should not have been parabatai. honestly most of these pairs shouldn’t be. they didn’t really have anything in common or anything that linked a strong powerful bond. I see Thomas and Christopher being more of a parabatai than any of these pairs. even Gabriel and Gideon. these siblings or family members actually speak to each other and work through their shit. Cordelia and Lucie “bonding” together didn’t work at all and felt super rushed. but that’s what happens when you waste hundreds of pages on miscommunication lmao

How does Cordelia come off worse than Lucie when the kiss was unexpected, she made it clear she still had feelings for james before going to Paris & she didn’t tell James or Lucie about her love for him because of his constant proclamation of love and loyalty for Grace. I don’t get that, what else has she done?

I am so so sorry about how late this reply is (I assuming this is about the other ask I answered on who was the worse friend, Cordelia or Lucie)

Cordelia is proud, something she admits herself in the series, and the main reason she never tells anyone her true feelings for James. But Cordelia has been in love with James for years, and she only found out about Grace at the beginning of ChoG. Lucie had no idea at the beginning of ChoG, when she was theorising Cordelia was the girl James was in love with, that Cordelia had any feeling for him at all. Cordelia kept that a secret from Lucie well before Grace even came into the picture. However, since Lucie also keeps Jesse a secret, you could argue that they're equally in the wrong for that.

Cordelia also didn't tell Lucie about her troubles with Cortana, or her road trip with Matthew & swearing loyalty to Wayland the Smith. All things she probably should have told her future parabatai before making any rash and reckless decisions you can't take back.

If I have to say my #truth, I really do wish that Lucie had been a better treated character throughout the last hours.

And actually, on that note, I wish the relationship between Cordelia and Lucie had also been written better. IMO there the least Parabtai out of any characters, which is such because objectively they have such a fun dynamic.

pls don’t jump me but i felt like the lucie/cordelia parabatai thing was very forced and very performative and i don’t really mean cc’s writing (except for the end where they really do become parabatai) i more mean them as characters in lore

i think one of my chot predictions was just that lucie and cordelia didn’t go through with the parabatai thing and it would be a moment of maturity or something after a childhood of proclaiming to everyone that they’d be parabatai one day and being really idek james i think at some point explained it better than i did but it felt very unserious/immature

i appreciate that what actually ended up happening is a cute little ‘friends can make up’ ditty but i think it would have also been nice to see them accept that they’ve grown apart or can still be good friends without necessarily having to be parabatai I DON’T KNOW

*clears throat* Can we just talk about how unfair it was that Cordelia was the one who got to kill Tatiana? Like there were a million other people who were way more qualified.

I’m pretty sure most people, like me, were rooting for Grace. After all, she was the one that Tatiana hurt most by physically abusing her, making her into a weapon, forcing her to brainwash James which made everyone she cares about mad at her, etc. Not to mention that Christopher, one of her only friends, the only person who defended her, and the one who encouraged her to pursue her passion for science, had just been MURDERED by Tatiana! And like, Grace was RIGHT THERE with a knife to Tatiana’s throat! Then CORDELIA had to come and ruin everything by summoning Lillith! WTF!?

Jesse was another person who had been hurt by Tatiana. This bitch, who he thought cared about him despite her flaws, as a mother should, SOLD HIM TO BELIAL so he could be possessed and forced to murder people which he would never do under any circumstances of his own free will! The guilt the poor boy must have gone through because of this bitch! Although personally, I don’t think he would be capable of murder, but it would have been better than fucking CORDELIA.

Also, the idea of either Jesse or Grace doing it to avenge their sibling? 😭

My second choice after Grace would be Lucie, who would be furious both because of Jesse being possessed, and because she had just found out that Tatiana had been the one to ruin James and Cordelia’s marriage, causing both her brother and parabatai a lot of pain. It would have set the scene for a fascinating conversation between her and Jesse regarding how they both felt about Tatiana’s death (the same is true for Grace) because I need more Ghostwriter scenes. Also, if she killed her partially on Grace’s behalf, it would better showcase what could have been a beautiful dynamic that desperately needs to be explored further. I need these too to become besties immediately! Lucie, unlike her boyfriend, totally deserved to be a morally ambiguous character. She had so much potential for stabbiness, so where’s all the stabbiness? It’s so unfair that she never gets to stab someone ONCE because she’s a main character and therefore needs to be morally perfect even though people who grew as rich as she did are the ones most likely to be evil. Besides, she could have ordered a ghost to do it while Lucie herself was far away, giving her an alibi, and any witnesses would not have seen the ghost. Honestly my preference would be if Lucie and Grace teamed up to do it together in Jesse’s name.

EVEN FUCKING JAMES a would have been a better option, not that I would like it much. He was the one who was brainwashed since he was fourteen after all. He was the one who kept on accidentally breaking his wife’s heart because of the gracelet.

While Cordelia was still hurt by Tatiana’s actions, she was farther removed from the situation. But because sHe’S tHe PrOtAgOnIsT, she had to be the one to do it. Not even of her own volition, but because she was being manipulated by a greater demon. Imagine all of your protagonists being so heroic and morally sound that they can’t even neutralize someone as twisted and dangerous and inhumane and this bitch without being physically magically controlled by Lillith herself. Is there anything more boring?

And what really makes me angry is that she finally gave in due to the death of one Christopher Lightwood, a character with whom she had no established dynamic. If this was CC’s plan all along, she could have made it so they had at least one single fucking conversation alone??? If the main catalyst for Tatiana’s death was Kit’s murder, then practically ANY OTHER CHARACTER a would have been better. Cecily and Gabriel and the others were in Idris but, once again, there’s Grace, Lucie, James, Thomas, Anna, Matthew, etc. Hell, even Rosamund Wentworth, who arrives pretty soon after Kit’s death, knew him longer than Cordelia!

sooooooooooo Jesse can say look out to Lucie and no one thinks it’s idiotic but the second Alastair does it, somehow he’s a fool? I can’t remember where else this happens but I know some of them have shouted stuff like this during a fight so why does Alastair get the hate for it?

I remember I made a post about this before but it’s funny that Jesse can say this to Lucie and it’s not seen as foolish (even though they’re kissing so she can sense some dead silent brothers and that’s already weird) but Alastair does it and OMG HES SUCH A FOOL

I just think the difference is wild. like it just seemed to me another thing to “call out” Alastair for. but Cordelia can come into fights and get others killed and talk to demons and all is okay. I know James yells at her but she continues to do stupid shit in chain of thorns and she doesn’t get told off quite enough for it

what was Alastair supposed to do? let Thomas be injured? maybe it wasn’t the right choice of words but he cares about Thomas- and I’m sorry but having James think this is so ridiculous. if it were Cordelia about to be hit or Lucie, James probably would’ve said almost the same. I’m just tired of Alastair getting hated on for majority of the series as if he’s not trying to fucking be better the whole bloody series
