It's still #PortfolioDay. Tere!! I'm Sven, an artist from Estonia. I have a BA in graphic art / printmaking. I draw comics, animation and design characters. I especially love drawing cats and guys with scruffy facial hair.

I primarily work with traditional mediums (ballpoint pen. who needs to erase anyway), but also have thorough knowledge in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Clip Studio Paint.

I draw inspiration from my own life experiences to make short comics about retail, LGBT+ topics, (specifically FtM transition) and Estonian working class life. I was born into poverty and negligence and had to work hard to keep up with everyone else and I don't want to romanticize it, but it made me resilient and independent at a very young age. Optimism and humor is what keeps me alive. Here's my Estonian Academy or Arts portfolio as a PDF! (EST 🇪🇪)

My costume submissions for pansear-doodles halloween contest!

@pansear-doodles made a contest some time ago and since its over now i wanted to post my submissions and talk a lil abt them

Artificer

This is a costume of arti as Artemis from Hades. I love goddess Artemis and i thought it fitted arti pretty well, as well as hunter tho i had a different idea for them. I wanted to experiment a bit with maybe just being inspired by the Hades version, with some sort of creature bone/skull mask/helmet, as well as adding a bit more flare. I love Hades god designs, but Artemis was always my least fave ngl. tho i wasn't able to experiment much and stuck around to the Hades version due to time and not having many good ideas.

Enot

Im so glad the Once-ler Enot got through and the other shown costume ideas i love em so much. I love joke characters, but i'm clearly isn't the best at designing them heh. This is gamer Enot with all the cringe gamer merch, dressed up as their computer having an LED gamer keyboard and mouse. Maybe now looking at it i should have added maybe some consol (tho they struck me as a religious pc gamer) or some LOL or other popular game merch to sell the gamer look. Maybe also add some doritos and mountain dew.

Gourmand and their pups (matching set)

I for the longest time could not decide, if i wanted to put gourm as dt asgore or ut asgore. Because it had to be asgore no questions asked, i mean look at the guy! I choose ut cause the way asgore is treated in dt just kill me internally. Also ut asgore family is much more functional. For the pups I wanted them to look like they’ve been face painted. Idk if chara and asriel really work for their personality, but i didnt really have any other idea with them. Also the one as asriel could’ve brought those like galaxy swords and some cool stuff from asriel dreemurr fight.

Also i wanted the drawing to resemble those monarch painted family portraits, so that’s why this style.

I didnt have any good ideas for hunter, until i was scrolling through my reblogs and saw puss in boots the last wish fanart. It worked so well with the hunter's personality i had to!

It was so hard to have a good idea for those 4, because tere were 4 of them. You have so many trios everywhere, but 4 gang nahhh. I thought at first to dress them as their slugs u know a classic really, but too basic for me i knew someone would submit that. Maybe cult of the lamb bishops not a bad idea either tbh, but something didn't vibe right. So

yeaahhhhhhh i did have any better idea for a 4 gang and fnaf franchise was the only thing coming to my mind that vibed with me. But then i was scrolling through my alt for reblogs and i saw inscyption fanart i reblogged at some point, and i had that moment: NEURONS ACTIVATE, and decided to not be cringe and make them into scribes ighodghgdoa. I had i lil moment wondering between srs and nsh and leshy and magnificus, but it was quickly resolved by pushing nsh into a bush. and 5p as po3 and lttm as grimora was a no brainer.

i dont know why i thought this was a good idea, but i vibed with it. I thought to make them a Julius Caesar from asterix and obelix comics.

Monk and the lizards

Monk was always supposed to be a pokemon trainer. It works so well with them. At first i thought to give them Reds outfit, but then i decided to make them an N, a character from Black and White. His closeness and kindness to his pokemon, tie well with monk and their lizards.

Lizards are painted as spindas. i thought abt giving each individual pokemon, but i also wanted to make it quick and easy for the comics, so spindas! infinite patterns for an infinite amount of friends.

Okay so this reference is like really obscure. It's the main characters from the movie Mune: guardian of the moon. I think i watched it only one time, long ago, i think the plot is really basic, but the lore and the art from it is great. it's one of those: if it was 2d it would’ve been so beautiful.

Anyway i wanted to do a lil swap: survivor is mune and nightcat is glim, cause it worked better personality wise.

Rivulet

Big big thanks to @kociamieta, because i really could decide where i wanted to go with this. I had an idea for a shark hoodie, undyne, a sci fi speedster and perry the platypus. (if it comes up that someone submitted perry the platypus costume and it didnt go through, idk what i will do) So they were like: why not combine the shark hoodie and a sci fi speedster and jaga u are a genius. im not too proud of this one, the colors could be a lil better and the suit needs some work, but it was the last day of the competition and didn't have that much time.

Saint

Saint as snufkins, very original (i wanted for the Jessica Rabbit costume to win). i don’t have much to say here other then my 10000 environment brushes as always carry the piece

I wondered for a bit if I should make them some cosmic horror god. Not with body horror, but those gods that will stand in the middle of the forest and just look at u.

Scav king

Very basic, jack sparrow inspired scav king costume, inspired by the helm comic part.

Spearmaster

My personal proudest one. A simple spray painter, but i put much care into this one. Now looking at it, I should rethink some colors, but i still like it. The spray cans could’ve been swapped out for needles (optional, not a correct). The tail is a paint brush with a swirl that isn't very visible in the colored piece.

Wanderer

Hollow knight gang! I think quirrel works well with wanderer. I mean the name, the character, the mission. They work well, I think.

I recently conducted a study into the torso and chest, and these are some drawings I came up with while I worked. The last is Artorias, before and after my study. It turned out pretty well. Here are some of my notes and findings!

Front Facing The lines on the neck (the ones that you can feel in your neck when you turn your head) are important muscles. The line starts right at the corner of your jaws (Beneath your ears), and travel towards the center of your collarbone.

The Collarbone connects to the top of the shoulders and points down towards the center of the sternum. Males will typically have broader collarbones than females due to the shape of the muscles/shoulders/armpits.

The peck muscles internal inside lines (over the sternum) lead to the sides of the neck naturally.

The peck muscles external lines (which reach up towards the arm pit) have an invisible line that can lead towards the center of the throat. The invisible lines and bottom of the pecks make an almost upside down heart shape.

The stomach has two plains, the ones on the center that have the abs and the ones more to the side. Ensure that whenever you shade the stomach you shade these areas as well.

Your sides have notable bumps along them. Making guidelines, the sides are generally marked by the Oblique and Serratus muscles, or they are generally in line with the abs.

The Oblique and Serratus muscles generally lead to the middle of the abs and lead to the center of the abs.

The bump that's under the belly/pelvic area is about 1/3rd of the distance down between the belly button and X

Side Facing The pecks generally align with the person's nose, or extend past the nose by roughly a half inch.

The front of the shoulder typically extends a bit past the corner of the jaw (below ear).

The bottom of the Teres Major muscle aligns with the nipple.

The abs are not flat/vertical. They are slanted towards the stomach.

The top arc where the glutes meets the torso almost reaches the belly button.

The head CAN be thicker than waist at this angle

The curve of the back is still further out than the back of the neck by approx an inch. This curve also perfectly alligns with the belly button.

Back and Butt extends further than the back of neck.

Back facing Easiest if you start with the main muscle on the back, the one that connects the neck and neck bumps together and is ninja star shaped: The trapezius.

The small white diamond shape in the Trapezius (where the spine is visible) has its side points allign with the top of the collar bone.

Trapezius meets shoulder at a point that is vertically aligned with the middle point of the serratus.

Teres Major and Minor line leads up towards the armpit.

Top of the Dorsi muscle underlaps the trapezius at a point that is vertically alligned with the side of the neck.

Like the side view, the Dorsi Muscle's top aligns with the nipples.

The lower white diamond shape (The fascia) top point aligns with the top of the abs. The bottom points start midway along the lowest serratus bumps.

i'm generally confident about my art yea! i have to remind myself that progress isn't linear, and i have a horrible tendency to compare myself to other artists but overall i feel good about my art yea :]

recently, i've really felt confident in how i draw bodies! i took a nude life drawing class about a year ago and it really helped me figure out how to work with proportions and where to place specific landmarks on the body regardless of the person or pose

diluc is probably the most emotionally repressed person on earth but teres equally has not had many connections with people. all of this to say they're fucking annoying to see in action.

thinks the revenge plot and pettiness is super fun

Teres is very psychically affectionate to all their friends. one they just suddenly stop touching Diluc all together and Diluc assumes hes done something wrong so he confronts them about it. Teres just stopped touching him in case it was making him uncomfortable. diluc hadn't realized how touch starved he was until he got a bit of it again.

Teres tells him that they killed a family member and ran off and Diluc tries to give their condolences and that it must've been hard and theyre just like nah probably the best night of my life and I'd do it again

Diluc would actually be the first one to confess and it would catch Teres off gaurd. theyre literally sleeping in the same bed with their toothbrush and a drawer full of clothes like where did this come from

he just calls them by their name and they while they might say a cute name its usually something random and weird like slimeball

nobody is free from them being annoying. it was cute at first with diluc being in a better mood in the end they just look like this plus teres brings him up often, nobody cares about ur stupid guy

6. Mere saath hi lagalo dil (The voice and eyes - biggest draw for me in any actor)

7. His solo realisation scene is where I was dead sure this guy is one hell of an actor and I was crushing hard, leading me to check out most of his dramagraphy.

8. Jab sukun se bore ho jau, bata de na, aa jaonga

9. A predictable but pivotal point comes in their relationship where they get into a car accident (his doing), but he puts himself in danger to save her. His confession to her after a series of misunderstandings was far more powerful than a ‘I love you’

10. The quintessential move the hair from the cheek scene 😄

Where the show hits rock bottom and stops making sense:

This is where the writer should have started showing Meerab softening towards him, maybe some more angst where she fights her mind with her heart, but after this, the show went downhill in an illogical sequence after sequence - which I can no longer waste my time on! If you catch just their scenes post E20 you will be left wondering what is going on 😂

Anyways - one bonus scene post E20 where we get Murtasim saying a cheesy line. I have no idea why I love this scene so much 😂 Maybe cause it reminded me of ZGH tea scene. No comparison though, ZGH one was epic. In that scene Fawad does magic with his eyes and in this one Wahaj with his deep, husky voice.

Where I stand with the show:

Murtasim had the makings of a Darcy, purely cause of how Wahaj has portrayed this role - he has just the right amount of swag and panache. Wahaj is extremely versatile without a doubt, but his biggest plus point is how well he emotes the feeling of being in love. Obviously, the writer did not have the Darcy vision, so the writing of Murtasim was a bit toxic in the initial episodes and some red flags emerged on and off in later episodes which were inconsistent given his character’s growth.

Yumna and Wahaj have undeniably great chemistry, but as the scenes progress you realise Meerab being cold to Murtasim’s growing feelings becomes kill joy after a point. The writer and director have missed the opportunity to tap the potential of these two actors, especially Wahaj who could romance a stone and still melt our hearts! Yumna (from her other drama I am watching with Wahaj) is very comfortable and good in soft & emotional scenes (as evident in the post accident scene). I would have loved to see Meerab softening towards Murtasim’s genuine efforts, her heart and mind battling towards her growing feelings for him, confession and then them settling into marital bliss. But the writer has pushed the audience into an abyss of illogical sub-plots and conniving,obsessive cousin that make no sense. The writer has done so much harm to Meerab’s character to the point that her redemption arc will take some doing.

So in summary , if you haven’t yet started the show but are wondering what the fuss is about, I would suggest don’t waste your time watching the entire show. Just read these two posts and scenes that are probably worth spending your 45 mins on this show just to watch the excellent Wahaj Ali as Murtasim and his fine chemistry with Yumna Zaidi as Meerab.

Angel knows Salem better than he would probably like. In the cracks of his kind-compassionate-confident facade lies something neglected, dust swirling through the open air, stirring wildly with the heave of his lungs. He crumbles and rots, desperately splashes fresh paint over the decay, and it says something about their family that she knows the whys of it better through news articles than first person accounts.

Angel’s a good cousin, though. Her role is easy: she’ll lean in close, mirror his fear, let him comfort her like she’s much younger than she is so he may draw his own safety from the action.

Here, with his face tucked into her hair, she doesn’t even have to exaggerate her expression. She curls herself small and does her best to fit into the hollow space beneath his ribcage.

She wonders if Sam used to fit here, so perfectly, or if he’d chafed within Salem’s frantic hold. She doesn’t remember a lot— a cheeky smile, a hand-me-down toy chest, the punchline of a joke— but she knows they used to fight. Salem would never let family do stupid shit alone, and Sam had been desperate to establish himself as an individual, to split the set.

(This deduction had been extrapolated from stories stolen across the hall, nights when the grownups cracked open their beers and let themselves laugh and grieve. Angel often wonders why she’s not invited. Hadn’t Sam been her family, too? Hadn’t Tito James and Tita Teres?)

(Maybe this is why Salem moved out. He can’t stand their silence, either.)

“It’s okay, it’s okay,” Salem hums, haltingly. “I’m here. It’s okay.”

Angel sniffs and pushes herself against him again, slides a hand around his back as if to cling. With practiced hands she shores up damaged frames.

There’s more, she sees, to unpack. She’s read all the articles he’s ever texted her. Probably, she could pass a college-level abnormal psych exam without even studying. But he’s not her client, and she’s not trying to be his therapist. What she is is his beloved cousin, and what he is is falling apart. She’ll hold up what she can, whenever he’ll allow it, and in return he’ll spoil and impress her with his gifts and time and advice. They’ll pretend this is a one-way street, this giving, and leave it at that.

“I’m here, I’m here,” he repeats, barely a murmur. He holds her tight, and every time his grip loosens, it trembles. She notices that he doesn’t let it loose often.

You’re here, Angel thinks back. Maybe she’ll develop her own superpowers. Contact-based telepathy. The only way to get it through his thick skull.

She thinks it as hard and she can while he leans on her.

You’re here. It’s okay.
