summary: with her sharp eyes focused on her audience, a burlesque performer who went under the name of melody returned to rythme romantique, an entertainment lounge which exclusively caters to the wealthiest people of monaco — or in this case, to the people with a status that are recognized by all. her three exclusive performances were meant to be a closure for her connections in the principality. still, a certain formula one driver saw it as an opportunity to reconnect with his former flame after two years of her absence. felicity vos learned that this was a rich man’s world and that he could do whatever he wanted, but she also realized that the agreement they settled on years ago was corrupted the moment he expressed his love for her. 

one, million dollar man: monaco was a world of glitz and glamour that she left two years ago. returning to the principality clearly was a huge mistake as she found herself talking to the man who swore to nothing but his love for her.

two, this is what makes us girls: "decorum isn't something you can buy with money or fame." or what did lewis really want from her and why did he show up on the second night of her performance?

the scheming schumachers, smau: sunny schumacher is mick's cousin and what does a family do? they attract arthur leclerc to get him away from his best friend, who happens to be mick's girlfriend. thankfully, the schumacher cousin is something of a welcome distraction for the monegasque.

debunking drama, smau: prequel to of long lines and names; aimee hearth, the mclaren media manager and one of the famous hearth sisters, was rumoured to be dating lando norris. a certain monegasque's baffled reaction became a trending topic in twitter as he counteracts the rumour with an instagram post of his lover. (f, h)

many kids with many names, smau: everyone found out that aimee and charles were having not only one but two babies. turned out, those two babies have at least a million name. (h) ★

of long lines and names, fic: five kids with (almost) five names under six years. OR the three pregnancies that charles had witnessed told him how motherhood and memories could come in two sets of twins and a boy that looked so much like him. (f)

the leclerc daycare, fic: before his last set of twins were born, charles had to watch his boys on his own- not exactly by himself when he's got esteban and pierre acting as his right hand men. (f) (1/3 of daddy, debriefed!) ♡

two, the wingman of maranello: jules leclerc learned two things as he travelled to italy with his father: he had an uncle named uncle teague and uncle teague had a best friend that was once charles' godfather.

Aug 2024 Week 1

Ongoing Series - Thai

The Rebound (Weds Gaga) eps 11-12fin - THE STAIRS ARE BACK and now they’re evil! Frank is truly great. He's out acting everyone else, but I'm just happy to see him pine. OK yes, the ending wasn’t awesome but I still really enjoyed this show. 

In conclusion: (deep breath)

This was a sports romance Thai BL pulp with everything I could have asked for given this sub genre. More, actually, since MeenPing are both great basketball players and the team component really did form part of the connective tissue of the show (vital in a sports romance). Meen has his shirt off within the first two minutes which is all I needed but he's still pretty great as the sullen secret keeper against Ping's cheerful survivor - childhood sweethearts torn asunder and now reunited. Then Frank sweeps in to give everyone a bad case of second lead syndrome. I always try to judge BL for what it is AS BL, and what it’s trying to do within its own territory and purview. This did exactly what it claimed on the tin: gay boys play b-ball and fall in love. That was all I wanted from it. Sure there was random kidnapping and a light bought of mass murder, but what’s a BL in 2024 without a touch of the mafia? You do you little pulp, I’m disposed to be pleased.

Thank you, Rebound, for being exactly what I wanted. Is this gonna be anybody else’s favorite BL of 2024? Probably not. But there is a real good chance it’ll be mine. Is it perfect? No. But for me, it got as close as a pulp can get, so I’m giving it 9/10.

My Love Mix-Up Th (Fri YT) ep 9 of 12 - Them being boyfriends is so damn adorable. Like PondPhuwin I think I could watch G4 just be boyfriends for 16 eps and not fuss about anything in life. They're my emotional support pair brand. Back to the show:

My goodness Atom is such a frenetic high strung babygirl. He is a near constant emotional pingpong.

Gold in Table Tennis

K is a teenage saint. The lights thing, and the hands to head (reminiscent of certain previous characters from this pair), all made me coo and laugh. 

However, this ep was mostly about the hets. It’s always funny to me when the gays have their shit figured out in a show but the hets are in chaos.

Also they're touted as "a teacher and a baker" but they're playing the gay dads of this narrative and I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. More gay dads in BL!

This Love Doesn't Have Long Beans (Fri iQIYI) ep 5 of 8 - I’m just gonna say it, because no one else is, this pair kisses like they’re in a Taiwanese BL. There’s no other way to put it except there’s a whole body genuine interest and enthusiasm to the way they do physicality that’s comparatively rare in Thai BL. This kind of on-screen sexual maturity is my favorite, especially in grown-up characters like these. The side couple = awesomesause. JJ is a very appealing character. He hates Methas, he likes him, he loathes him, and also... he definitely wants to see him naked. 

All praise aside? I have questions about why half the hair in this show is so absolutely ghastly. Like bad enough for Japan. Enough of that now, Thailand. Tut tut. Cut cut. Style style. Please & thank you?

Century of Love (Weds Gaga) eps 7-8 of 10 - Well THAT is an interesting take on a Faen Fetale. As expected, a somewhat doomy ep 7. I did enjoy the doctor punching San tho.

Bronze in Boxing

Meanwhile, that camel jacket is a sin against all things, especially Daou. But I eventually got a crying kiss. I love a crying kiss best in the world. Next week looks good! But I miss my nine tailed fox nod. Will we get back to that or was it just a brief weird thing?

The Trainee (Sun YouTube) ep 5 of 12 - It’s kinda great actually. The romance is the only bit that isn’t really hitting for me. Gun’s smile at the "oppa" is so adorable. His little dimples.

Sunset X Vibes (Sat iQIYI) ep 8 of 12 - I really do not like the pet name in this one. Khun Dad is too weird for me. But I do think their relationship is ridiculously cheesy and endearing in a terrible way. These two are the equivalent of that couple that always speaks in baby talk. It’s a good thing they’re pretty because they’re not so bright. Wait! No Christmas music in my BL! That's far too weird. 

Bronze in Diving

I Saw You in My Dream (Weds Gaga) ep 3 of 12 - I’m liking this a lot better now. It’s still a little slow for me but since the bullying has stopped relatively quickly I’m not as upset as I was. Also, look at those eyes, our P'Seme is IN LURV. That said, I’m not wild about the sudden suicide plot line. That feels... weird.

Battle of the Writers (Sun YT) - TutorYim are back and so far this is better than Middleman's Love - but that's not saying much. For a second there I thought they were going to open on the REAL blindfold scene from Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation. But then I remembered that that’s more Mame than anyone else. On a completely different note, I do like this pair. And I’m willing to give them ever more chances. That said this is very, I don’t know, weird? I’m not sure what is happening, and I’m confident that’s not my fault. I hope it makes sense eventually.

Knock Knock Boys (Thurs Gaga) ep 11 of 12 - Peak's dad is so completely frustrating and kind of psychotic. It’s annoying to watch. So I spent most of this episode upset. I'm glad he came around in the end but it was a lot, mostly unforgivable, from this side of the screen.

Love Sea (Sun iQIYI) ep 8 of 10 - It's committing the greatest sin of all (in the realm of entertainment). It's mind numbingly dull. I'd sooner be offended than bored. Trash watch

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

I Hear the Sunspot AKA Hidamari ga Kikoeru (Japan Weds Gaga) ep 7 of 10 - I don’t remember the camping trip from the manga, but I really enjoyed it in this series.

Takara's Treasure AKA Takara No Vidro (Japan Mon Gaga) ep 5 of 10 - The bit with the kid was cute but I’m still finding this rather slow and the central relationship unappealing. I think the balance of power has to shift for me to engage, and I don’t see that happening anytime soon.

It's airing but...

Bad Guy (Korea YT) - yeah, erm, no thank you.

Sugar Dog Life (Japan Sun ????) 10 eps - OMG a uni student who looks too young and a... COP. GAH. The subversion and kink of it all. Please SOMEONE pick this one up?

4 Minutes (Thai Netflix/Grey) - A rich boy at uni suddenly gains the supernatural power to see four minutes into the future. I have a source, but I've decided to hold off and binge if it ends okay, since it's only 8 eps. I depend upon y'all to tell me how it goes.

Meet You at the Blossom (China) - it's your funeral (or, more likely, one of the main characters'). You can argue but... statistics. You know my feelings on this matter. MY BLOG, remember?

8/13 Addicted Heroin (Thai Tues YT) - supposedly Jinlo with air this on their YT channel. Stars August (Love Sick) so I'm excited despite Jinlo's poor reputation. From the trailer it looks like it's following the original pretty closely just Thai style.

8/16 The Last Time (Thai Fri YT) ? eps - Convoluted story of loss and possible reincarnation or something.

8/22 The Paradise of Thorns (Thai movie) theater release - Jeff Satur is back but this does not look like a BL (the gay lover's death is the inciting event). More in Goodbye Mother vein. Looks dark and dramatic. He opposite and extremely well known actor Toey Pongsakorn who has never done gay before.

Addicted Heroin (Thailand adaptation) is also supposed to release this month. GIVE IT TOO MEEEEEE. I don't care about anything else but August back on my screen. It's been almost a decade since he did BL.

And that's what makes him leave. In the meanwhile, his friends and the other Keepers of Remyandre, the creatures who own powers, must find him and complete more missions during a long journey that will change their lives.

I didn't do my masterpost in 2023, but this year I decided to take the time to do so!

This was a very Jaime/Brienne year, with many exchanges, but I'm happy that I wrote some FMA fics (all of Royai week!), and even a Faramir/Eowyn one-shot along the way.

Ah, it's hard to pick a favorite! Here are a few that I really enjoyed:

Gallery AU (Keith and Shiro from VLD fanfic) by @trytofocus - Keith is a prisoner in a secret, highly prestigious gallery where subjects are displayed in all manners of artful bondage for the entertainment of rich patrons. Shiro is one such patron. And he isn't nice. (Be warned that this fic is 18+, as it contains adult elements and themes, and is NSFW) Why I love it: God, the mental images are SO GOOD. The way that Keith is treated as a living, breathing, unwilling art piece... the emotions, the way things are described, the care and reverence taken in tying him up and putting him on display, the way that Shiro appreciates him, the attitude that Keith gives... It's so freaking good, and it gives me crazy whumperflies. I wish there was more!

Death Valley (also on AO3) by @ashintheairlikesnow - In 2003, Finn Schneider left Germany for a month-long planned trip around the United States. Somewhere around Death Valley, he disappeared. But he wasn't alone. (Be warned that this fic is 18+, as it contains noncon, murder, and is NSFW) Why I love it: This was the second whump fic that I ever read, and it was integral in getting me into the whumpsphere! I feel SO SO SO bad for Finn, what he goes through, and how he is in his future. It's one of those stories that makes me go "OH NO BB LET ME FIX IT FOR YOU ;A;" but this poor guy has seen and been through far too much. It's brutal. Even the flash forward has me on the edge of my seat and only wanting the best for him. I hope this poor man finds love, joy, and peace.

Brother's Keeper by @darkthingshappen - Ben Adkins' life changes forever when his brother Jake fails to pay what is owed to some powerful men. Will he be able to survive his harrowing experience and return to his family? (Be warned that this fic is 18+, as it contains explicit noncon and is NSFW) Why I love it: Phew, this one is intense! It's one of those fics that made me go "OH DAMN." a lot. I actually had to read this one out of order a bit because (spoilers) thereʻs a recovery arc... followed by a recapture arc. I had to save some of the recovery arc to read when things got too tough and I needed some joy for the characters, because GEEZ. Poor Ben!! Poor Jake! Poor Andrei! Volkov and his guys are sick SOBs and just merciless. Itʻs so whumpy. I had to skip a chapter or two due to some of my own personal squicks, but other than that, if youʻre looking for some guys having a super bad time, this is a great fic for that!

King of The Road by @darkthingshappen - George and Danny find themselves in the hands of a very sick and twisted trucker. What will happen to them as his newest victims? (Be warned that this is fic 18+, as it contains explicit noncon and is NSFW) Why I love it: The trucker is horrible!! An absolutely evil vile terrible sick guy!!! I have to know what happens to George and Danny! Thereʻs not much of the fic yet, but Iʻm frothing at the mouth waiting for more. The brutality is so whumperiffic, and I already desperately want to save them, so you know things are on a good track!

Secrecy by @doomeddestination - A young spy is captured by a mysterious man known only as Shepard. (Be warned that this fic is 18+, as it contains explicit noncon and is NSFW) Why I love it: Calico is such a great writer, and her dedication to her stories and characters is INSANE. This story was the first one of hers that I read, and it introduced me to Ander, who is another character that I simply wish to wrap in a blanket and give tea to and take care of forever. This poor guy just needs a break. Shepard is awful, and the suspense in the story is so great. Thereʻs a whole multitude of AUs and stories that contain these characters as well, so lots of stuff to check out! ... ... ... If Ander never gets to canonically see his mom again, I will riot in the streets. LET A GOOD THING HAPPEN TO HIM.

The Mountain Man by @darkthingshappen - A kidnapper has his sights on a hockey player and sets a plan into motion to get him into his clutches. Why I love it: Getting into the head of the whumper as he stalked and planed his capture was so cool. I loved the confusion and delirium that the hockey player showed, especially when things started to get scary. I think this story was meant to be a one-shot, but Iʻd gladly dig into more of it if it got continued!

Hazel's story by @starrywhump - A group of college students is kidnapped by a sadistic whumper who has no qualms about torturing them. Why I love it: This was the FIRST whump fic I ever found and read! I wouldnʻt be in the community now if not for this fic. I have no idea how I stumbled across it, but Iʻm so glad I did, because it introduced me to whump lingo, whump blogs, and this whole crazy world. I love the characters, the whumper is creepy and intimate, and some of what she does is just nasty and brutal. I donʻt know what happened to the author (the blog hasnʻt been updated in like three years), but I hope that theyʻre happy and doing well wherever they are. I love the fic, and would love to read more if they ever decided to continue!

There are so so so many other great fics out there, but these are just the few that come to mind off the top of my head! Any other fans of these stories out there? :O

The novella I've wanted for years

A Magical Girl Retires by Park Soyoung 

Magical Girl is one of my favorite subgenres so I was so excited to get my hands on this novella written for Millennial women who grew up on Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, and Magic Knight Rayearth. I loved the blending of adult issues (credit card debt unemployment) with global issues (domestic abuse and climate change) combined with magical girl job fairs and destiny and grief and loneliness. Hands down, the best novella of 2024 and there were so many amazing ones (shout out to Butcher of the Forest by Premee Mohammed)

The Romantasy that became my all-time favorite

Under the Oak Tree by Kim Suji 

There are not enough words in the English language to explain how meaningful this story is to me, how two lonely, damaged people, one a survivor of childhood abuse and the other with a deep-seated inferiority complex, found each other and became each other's whole world. Their love is not healthy, they're absolutely obsessed with each other and I loved every last word 

The book that reminded me of when I was ten and wanted to be a marine biologist 

The Phoenix Keeper by S A MacLean 

We have a Bi lead with anxiety who has achieved her life-long dream of taking care of phoenixes at a zoo for magical creatures, a slowburn Sapphic rivals-to-lovers romance, and a cozy atmosphere. It's a wonderful comfort read and accessible worldbuilding that feels a lot like being behind the scenes at the San Diego Zoo.

The Sapphic sci-fi that hit all the right buttons

Redsight by Meredith Mooring 

Meredith Mooring is in the Star Wars fandom and it comes across in the worldbuilding, but she also adds blind representation and themes of religious trauma. Also, the love interest turns into a snake and eats a man alive in her first POV chapter. If that doesn't sell you on trying it, I don't know what will.

The book that made me feel like I was reading a dark fairy tale 

A Dark and Drowning Tide by Allison Saft 

The other Saft book on my list and her first adult book and first book centering a Sapphic romance. I loved the academic one-sided rivals-to-lovers and how much folklore and the treatment of Jewish people in folklore is discussed. As with all of Saft's works, this is set in a secondary world, but the real world coding is incredibly strong.

The book that hit generational trauma the hardest

All the Times Before by Asha Thanki

I don't know what I was expecting when I picked this up, but it certainly defied all of my expectations in the best way possible. The Sapphic slowbuild romance arc takes almost the entire book and it feels so earned by the characters. I loved the idea of a shawl full of the rich history of a family of women that connects them to each other and their small magical abilities.

The contemporary romance that had me squealing

Knives, Seasoning, and a Dash of Love by Katrina Kwan 

I love a big height difference, I Iove male characters who have big hands, and I'm always down for a book discussing themes of identity. One of my favorite contemporary romances of the year and the one that fit my tastes the most.

The quiet Queer historical that kept me gripped

 The Paris Affair by Maureen Marshall 

One of the reasons I was really into this one is because of how quiet the romance is. I don't know how anyone else feels, but season 4 of Bridgerton definitely made me hungry for more romances that aren't explosive or full of constant intense passion and this hit the spot.

The YA that combined magical girls and Prohibition 

Nightbirds by Kate J. Armstrong 

Ultimately, this is a YA about sex work and the sequel is about sexual slavery. It's done in a way that is accessible to young readers while exploring the different opinions and situations around sex work as a profession and the dangers that come with it. At no point did I feel that the narrative was claiming sex work is a bad thing to choose, but it ultimately needs to be a choice, not something someone is forced into.

1. The Luminous Life of Lucy Landry by Anna Rose Johnson (8/10 hearts)

Y’all, I read this book on January 2nd, and despite reading over 570 books since, it’s still my favourite of the year. Ships, found family, lighthouses, treasure hunts, friendship, imagination… it’s so sweet. Check out my full review here.

2. Tomorrow Isn’t Promised by Chelsea Burden (8/10 hearts)

Okay, so we all know Chelsea Burden is one of my favourite authors ever. And this book is definitely my favourite of hers. I cried my eyes out but it did my heart so much good. Full review here.

3. Blind Date With a Book Nerd by Erica Dansereau & Britt Howard (8/10 hearts)

I would highlight this book as the one that I related to most and the one that touched me the most. I highly recommend it. It’s so deep and delightful. Check out my full review here.

4. The Good Ship “Red Lily” by Constance Savery (8/10 hearts)

I’ve wanted to read this book for years, since it was highly recommended to me. I was not disappointed! It’s phenomenal. Excellent writing, and such a lovely story. Here’s my review, and the Archive link.

5. Chasing the “Lutetia Light” by Michaela Bush (8/10 hearts)

This book haunted me, y’all. It’s so, so fun and so exciting, with such fantastic feels/aesthetics and a great message to boot. My full review here.

6. A Silent Hope by Madisyn Carlin(7/10 hearts)

Guys, when I said the Lutetia Light haunted me, this one also has to fill that slot. I am still thinking of this book, though I read it back in April. It’s so full of cool things (I WANT MORE BOOKS ABOUT GIANTS) and a fantastic message… Full review here.

7. Urram – Rekindled Hope by Cheyenne van Langevelde (7/10 hearts)

Remember Dìlseachd – A Stolen Crown? It was an 8/10 read, an absolutely amazing book. Well, this sequel was almost as fantastic. It was everything a sequel should be, and the most awesome Scottish alternate hisfic EVER. Here’s my full review!

8. A Name Unknown by Roseanna M. White (7/10 hearts)

This book was such a huge surprise to me. I believe it was my first read by Roseanna M. White, and I understand now why she is a favourite author for many of my friends. This book totally captured my imagination (and made me buy the whole adjacent series, ahem). Full review here.

9. The Way of the King by Hosanna Emily (7/10 hearts)

I loved The Torch Keepers, and this sequel was perfect. It’s such a great allegory with lovely writing and characters, and a very deep, beautiful message. View my full review here.

10. Hazelby Priors by Courtenay Burden (7/10 hearts)

I recommend this book so well to my mother, that she actually read it. My mother does not read fiction much, and she never reads new fiction. She also reads like 12 books a year. But she read this one and said it was very good, which is like 5/5 praise from my mother. So, it’s good, y’all. Check out my full review here.

1. The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare (7/10 hearts)

I have always loved this book. It’s fascinated me for years, and every time I reread it I fall under its spell once more. I’m not exactly sure what makes it so very intriguing to me… perhaps it’s a combination. Full review here.

2. Left to Die by Hailey Rose (7/10 hearts)

I deeply enjoyed this book when I first read it, eight years ago… but now, as an adult, I loved it. It’s such an unexpectedly deep book. Full review here.

3. A Sidekick’s Tale by Elisabeth Grace Foley (7/10 hearts)

5. Jeanne, Fille du Roy by Suzanne Martel (6/10 hearts)

This is one of the few classic French books I’ve read and loved—and it’s probably because it’s actually Québécois. Suzanne Martel does such an epic job putting in all the history and yet leaving it a story. It is translated in English! Full review here (scroll down to the translation).

6. I Don’t Dance by Jesseca Wheaton (6/10 hearts)

8. Sunset Summer by Jesseca Wheaton (5/10 hearts)

There is something so poignant about reading books written by your friends when they were young adults/late teens, just like you were, and you were all figuring out life together. Half my love for the book might be nostalgia, not gonna lie. It means so, so much to me personally. Full review here.

9. Christy by Catherine Marshall (5/10 hearts)

This book is intense. And huge. And it strikes to you like a burr. I read this for the first time when I was far too young to have any business reading it, but in defence of my preteen self, I thought it was an Anne of Green Gables style book because of the cover. Anyways, I read it and never forgot it through the decade that has passed. Much of the book was imprinted on my mind despite the hundreds of books—and I am not exaggerating—I’ve read since. It’s one of the few books I never forgot, and when I reread this this year, I found myself remembering some scenes almost word for word. That’s how much it struck and fascinated me. 10. Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell (5/10 hearts)

I read this as a child and loved it… reread it over and over… made my own tales from it… and then years later reread it as an adult and apparently was very disappointed?? I don’t know what was wrong with me in 2020. (Ha.) Full review here.

• The Library Blitz Series by Courtenay Burden (new read)

This is ongoing but it’s a delightful WWII short story series celebrating the lesser-known heroes of London during the Blitz, featuring two wonderful cousins. 5 stars for all.

• The Once Upon a Western Series by Rachel Kovaciny (new)

A fantastic Western series with good Christian content, vivid characters, splendid humour, sweet romance, and excellent diversity. Average rating 5 stars, but there were a few 6 stars too.

• The Cornerstone Series by Multiple Authors (new)

This series is ongoing. These books are the ones I’ve read so far, and I’ve genuinely enjoyed them all. My average rating was 5 stars but there were some 6 and 7 stars too.

• The Pax Duology by Sara Pennypacker (new)

These two books must be read together. The first one isn’t complete without book 2. It’s such a deep, beautiful series. 5 stars each.

• The Chronicles of Uriu by Kaytlin Phillips (new)

I loved Emberling so much, and it’s stuck to me for months. Reef is a great prequel novella, and I look forward to the next books so much!

• The Laura Marlin Mysteries by Lauren St. John (new)

I read this series in French, and I only read the first 2 books in the series—the rest aren’t translated. *howls* I hope to read the rest in English on archive. Anyways, it was a great middle grade mystery series. I especially loved the friendship, the found family, the great respectful relationship between the adult and the child, and the awesome setting!

• The Secrets of Ormdale Series by Christina Baehr (new)

This was hands-down my favourite series of 2024—even with all that steep competition. The only reason it isn’t listed in my top favourite books of the year is because I wanted to list it here instead. It was fantastic. So deep and beautiful and true and serious and sweet. I can’t wait to reread it, and I recommend it to everyone.

• The Anna Solden Duology by Jean Little (reread)

Somehow I relate to Anna in many ways, and that hasn’t changed over the years. Every time I read this series, it hits me in a different way. Book 1 always reminds me we all need to realize that we need to take the time to stop and listen to people; book 2 encourages and motivates me to get up and keep fighting even when it seems too hard.

• The Dolphin Ring Series by Rosemary Sutcliff (reread)

I only reread the first 3 books but I loved them as much as ever—so much so that I purchased books 1 & 2 to own myself. (I can’t find any copies of book 3 to purchase. *bawls*)

• The World of Beatrix Potter (reread)

I’m not gonna list them all, but I reread this series this year and they were as fantastic as I remembered. ❤
