I think it’s so ironic that the Pony Express escapes a lot if not all blame in discussion. I can’t even say I am excused from it but it’s just how hard people circle back to the characters alone without considering the environment they were made to be in.

Why would they design a ship where only two of the rooms lock? Not the bathroom? Not the sleeping quarters? We assume that all the companies in the universe are this shallow and careless to their workers but we explicitly know the Pony Express in extra vile. They are fed processed slop pack they can’t even really cook and the ration of those pack is meager at best. They hired and made people with a plethora of conflicting demeanors and beliefs work together on a mission where cohesion is important if not an outright necessity and punish them for not being happy about it. There’s no social protocols, not chain of command other than Captain’s word/choice and the only way to enforce that is with a literal firearm. They don’t allow them to celebrate freely and even took away leisure activities that would make them less stir crazy. They are only allowed a few hours of sleep despite their being no other real responsibilities or work on the ship, no matter the position or its importance. With any crew, with any level of synergy, this was a powder keg waiting for a spark.

I’m not saying characters that made mistakes didn’t make huge ones, but I think part of the horror is that at least for some (this is targeting Jimathan) those mistakes are partly made by a force of the hand. There’s a running theme of lack of choice and being forced into something and the very nature of how The Pony Express expected them to function plays a big part.

I got most of the idea for this upon rereading this ficlet I wrote about Tataru's anxieties watching the rest of the Scions depart to close out Endwalker. I wanted to make this pose showing the moment they meet back up and live happily ever after!

Nonny, I saw the video and my first thought was this scene from Anaconda: Blood Orchid.

Just imagine redcoats trying to cross a similar body of water and they just start getting taken out one by one.

Hell, we can change it up a bit and have Desmond’s natural habitat being the bayou in New Orleans. Have Aveline be the one to first meet Desmond who is stalking the entirety of the bayou. He recognized her from Ratonhnhaké:ton’s memories so he doesn’t hurt her and even try to assist her whenever he can.

Aveline believes him to be a smart snake who just so happen to have a taste for the people that can be considered as her enemies.

She considered him an ally that she needs to be cautious about.

Desmond just likes to chill and help out whenever he sees Aveline.

The first time Ratonhnhaké:ton joins Aveline in the bayou though…

Desmond just curled around him and tried to snuggle him. Aveline was worried Desmond wanted to eat him for like… a second or so before she realized that, nah, Desmond is just, strangely, affectionate towards Ratonhnhaké:ton.

“I’m not you Johnny.” She spoke, voice coated the strange electric hum that came with being an engram on a decaying chip, “I’m not—I wasn’t—a legend, had no importance to them. They made me an engram to show the world what they do to people that oppose em.”

“Had to fuck them over pretty good for them to preserve you like this.” Johnny hummed and glanced over at her glitching form.

V’s physical appearance was buggy—courtesy of the shattered chip currently residing in his neck. Thin blue shards of glitching energy prickled off her skin, distorting her ever so slightly. If she stood near a light source—neon or natural—it would filter through her. The streams of light passing through her ghost-like form as if she wasn’t there—which technically she wasn’t.

He had a sinking suspicion that Arasaka had somehow altered her appearance before jamming her on the relic. The V before him didn’t look like someone who had just gone up against a mega corp with guns blazing.

From the way Rogue had described it, V hadn’t gone down without a fight. And yet the version before him was scrubbed clean of any blood or grime. Perfectly presentable to the masses as a shining example of what a corporate terrorist looked like.

She wore sturdy boots and strong weave pants with a cyberdeck clipped to the chunky belt around her waist. Her shirt was deep charcoal with a faded decal splashed across the front.

Perhaps most egregious of all was her jacket. Worn brown leather with patches adorning the sleeve and a hand painted Samurai crest emblazoned on the back of it.

He had said some choice words about the jacket and how it was just his luck that he got stuck with a groupie in his head.

(She had also said some choice words back at him.)

“It’s not preservation, it’s penance.” V muttered, gaze falling on him.

Day 4

i feel like stranger things 3 is regarded as the “best season” because it’s very nostalgic and charismatic the easiest to consume

it’s way more comedic and lighthearted than the other seasons (even though it was heartbreaking at parts) and the bright colors and the 80s aesthetic and the summer vibes gives it such a nostalgia and charisma that makes it hard not to love. it also stands out, since none of the other seasons are like that. and while it might be the favorite of a lot of us because of that, i feel as though it is certainly not the best season

that’s still my own opinion because art is subjective, but when you look at the stories for what they are including their strengths and their flaws, season 3 might win the charisma game but not much else

and for the record i fucking LOVE season three, for the same reasons everybody else does. it is so nostalgic to me and i just love the vibes all around. however in my opinion it is the worst season, even though it is probably my second favorite season

it can also be argued that its charisma alone is enough to make it the best season - a lot of people watch for the nostalgia and the hahas and the fun things, which is valid as well. season three is easily the most fun season

Okay I did get distracted by a grade being posted and I am about to be both a nerd and a millennial but god ngl I do hate classes where you get full points on all your assignments but don't actually get any actual feedback on them. What is the point. If it's a class where everyone gets passing grades for making the effort but you get actual feedback and comments, that's great! But I would genuinely rather get points docked and get extensive comments on what I did well and what needed improvement and why than this.
