OKAU. CAIN (AND ASHER). For asher honestly considering making him not a grimwalker, instead a really brainwashed Scout who was assigned to Cain. But ANYWAY more on that later.

SO: Cain is one of the middle-timeline grims, i dunno when timelines hurt me. He’s got cataracts leading to blindness (though he can see differences in light (his eyes are v light-sensitive) and has a more enhanced sense of magic and stuff). He had some time before they developed to that point, took a couple years to go blind, so he ended up having a lotta training. Also, one of his teachers (who wasnt *that* shit) was like ‘girl u have vision issues huh’. And cain was like “huh. I guess”.

So yeah the teacher helps him out w/ his extra senses and stuff, preparing him for the future blindness (tho neither know that it will get that bad, just that it may get worse). He’s proud, nearly to the point of arrogance due to being hard working which leads to mastery of many subjects he puts his mind to. However, due to his issues he can’t read very well, and his hand eye coordination suffered slightly. So he uses more AoE, swiping, and large area attacks bc precision is not his strong suit. He’s also not the best at stealth bc he cant see obstacles. He can sneak awesome in like, dark hallways, but in a forest? He’s getting found out. Maybe also eating dirt.

He’s got an odd superiority/inferiority complex due to his blindness. On one hand: he worked harder than everyone else, of course he’s better. Plus, he’s the golden guard, the right hand of the emperor, extension of his will on the isles. But also. He can’t even read. He stumbles even now over cracks in tile, on occasion walking into walls or people or veering too far in the wrong direction. He hates asking for help, and he especially hates losing. Even more so if its because of his blindness. He hates feeling inferior, so he masks it with superiority (and his literal mask, which has no face on it).

This is good for him bc he is SHIT at managing facial expressions. Like. Girl is a great liar til you see his face and he’s got ALL the tells goin. Micro-expressions? No. Macro-expressions. He’s not good at making friends because he forgets to make expression when he’s not lying though… like. When he lies it’s like he’s trying to act, so he deliberately puts on expressions. But when he isn’t, all he does is the bare minimum that comes from instinct. Also he scares people because he kinda stares.

He mostly fights with magic, plant and abomination (bc they extend his sight and are accessible anywhere). Doesn’t wear the heeled boots or the full gloves of the other grims, instead wearing wrist-guards and flat-soled boots. He taps on the metal of his armor at times in enclosed spaces, a nervous tick from when he was just learning to adjust to full blindness (which came on suddenly after an unfortunate accident that took the rest of his vision. Led to an unfortunate overheard conversation between belos and himself on the merits of keeping Cain alive, or not. Cain desperately proves himself.)

After rewatching season three of TOH, I’ve noticed an interesting detail. So, as we all know, Hunter has a hair strand reminiscent of Caleb’s that he cuts off at the beginning of ‘Thanks to Them’ to stop being reminded of his abuser and heal properly. Yet, the very moment he’s possessed by Belos, the hair strand grows back.

Although it’s a subtle detail, it encapsulates Belos and Hunter's relationship perfectly: Belos is in complete control of Hunter’s actions, appearance, and future, while Hunter is a vessel to be moulded at the former’s whim. Additionally, it may symbolise Hunter’s struggle to leave his traumatic memories behind and heal. Given that he’s lived his entire life in Belos’ company, his trauma and conditioning simply cannot vanish the moment he gains physical freedom from his abuser. Healing takes a long time, and his abuser’s return isn’t helping at all.

If we compare Hunter’s hair strand from season two and ‘Thanks to Them’, we’ll notice that they’re not identical.

As you can see, it descends into the middle of Hunter’s forehead instead of being positioned to the side like it used to. Guess who else has a hair strand in this exact area. Belos.

The bastard grew it out the very moment he gained control over Hunter’s body, just to mark his ownership over the boy and flaunt it to his friends. Also, remember how Hunter cut his hair short in the intro because his hair length reminded him of his traumatic past? Belos also grew out the rest of the boy’s hair (maybe not as long, but still), possibly to let him know that he’ll never be free, and most importantly, himself.

After breaking free from Belos’ control, Hunter’s hair strand returns to its original side position, which symbolises that he accepted his grimwalker roots, but made sure to remember that he’s his own person, not the tool or property Belos reduced him to. Considering how much happier Timeskip Hunter looks, it’s quite possible that he eventually started associating that part of his hair with something much more positive, rather than with pain and shame.

Hello!! I am back with another crossover parallel :D it’s still fairly odd parents a new wish x the owl house but it’s comparing two characters this time, dev and hunter! (Hopefully it will make sense when I explain it)

1. Their mothers are both never mentioned :( (ik belos isn’t technically Hunter’s dad but he’s basically a parental dad figure so it sort of counts since before Hunter got redeemed, he didn’t really have a mother parental figure)

2. When they were first introduced, they both had some accessory covering their face or parts of their face (Hunter with the mask as the golden guard and Dev with the sunglasses)

3. They both just have the same attitude before their redemption? At least while Hunter was still the golden guard. Both are a little sarcastic and snarky and want to make their parental figure proud (more on that in a second)

4. OMG DALE AND BELOS ARE LITERALLY THE SAME ANSJSKKSKSK. Both are business men (being emperor counts as being a business man trust), have experienced some sort of trauma(Dale with Vicky and Belos with his brother), do not pay attention to their children, basically run the city or place where they live, are loved by a lot of people, and both aren’t good people

5. This only counts if you see the Dev being a clone theory as being real ‼️ but both are non-humans or were made by their parental figures to fit in when in reality, they’re not who they look like they are (dev with the clone theory and Hunter being a grimwalker)

6. Both are befriended by the kind and happy main character :3 (Hazel and Luz)

7. Both have had access to magic (Hunter and his palismans, Dev and Peri)

8. When they both got redeemed, they started acting kinder (Dev, unfortunately, went back to being mean)

9. To be honest they both have just been through a lot 😭🙏 these poor trauma filled boys

10. A kind person is usually shipped with them (hunter x willow, dev x hazel)

11. Their access to magic were killed or almost killed (Hunter and Flapjack, Dev and Peri)

12. Both were VERY lonely 😭😭😭😭 (except Dev is technically still lonely with the memory wipe)

13. I know Hunter in the titans key episode was absolutely insane when he felt when he failed Belos (the quotes being: “Long story short, this is my grave! Want me to make you one too?” and “I can’t turn up empty handed…. not again.”) but I feel like Dev would probably act the same if he felt like he failed his dad too

14. And they’re both into nerdy things :3 yayayy!! (Hunter with Cosmic Frontier and Dev with Prime Meridian)

That’s all I could think of!! There may be more parallels but I haven’t watched the owl house in a LONG TIME 😭😭 I will rewatch it though! Kinda going based off of your SA Hunter head canons and your Gilded Aged AU, do you think Hunter sees Belos interacting with Luz and feels intense Jealousy? Belos’ attention seems like absolutely everything to Hunter, to have someone steal that attention. How do you think that would play in their relationship? if you don’t mind me asking.

Yeah…. Yeah their relationship gets a bit rocky. Hunter just wants Belos to care about him, to love him, they’re family, and yet this human girl shows up out of nowhere and Belos is so nice to her. At least from his perspective. What gives her the right? And then Luz has the nerve to look at him with those big sad brown eyes and pity him?

and the thing is, he can’t even bring himself to hate her. She’s so nice. So kind. she’s interested in what he has to say, she teaches him Spanish, and she’s the first person who gives a fuck about him enough to worry and ask if he’s okay when he’s not. Her touch is gentle and he’s never been hugged before. It’s so nice.

He thinks to himself that as long as she doesn’t stick her nose where it doesn’t belong, they can keep being nice. Belos will reward him for being good, and Luz will be there to give him a breath of fresh air when he fails.

But Luz will do no such thing.

Oh I just had an evil thought about the Ghoul AU

Belos uses food as a main manipulation tactic for keeping Hunter "efficient and successful" on his missions. It has not been revealed where that meat comes from (if I'm not missing or forgetting anything).

I would totally believe that since petrification is admittedly rarely done if at all in the present day, Belos would feed him the meat of prisoners. Maybe he would amputate them and use those removed limbs to simultaneously feed Hunter less and still keep the meat fresh---objectively, it's being efficient with resources and punishing him for underperforming.

How fucked up would it be if (assuming that the ingredients required to create Grimwalkers are reusable and that the process is worth the time investment) Belos feeds him other Grimwalkers. What if he had tried it previously with the bodies of failed specimens? Would they have been able to tell the difference?

Correct for the most part! The Emperor coven is already known to have secret petrifications of Wild witches so it would make sense for some of them to be executed in different ways for reasons. I don’t think he’d be bother to have limbs amputated, rather why not just kill them if he’s already fine with doing that.

Though the idea of “reformed” wild witches(aka those forced into covens) leaving the conformatorium with missing limbs and being told that’s just punishment is all sorts of dystopian. Though, I always like the idea that the most wild of witches would just “disappear” and the rest, lesser ones would be forced into covens or kept imprisoned. They all get arrested but have different fates depending on severity of their crimes.

After Hunter carvings arise, Belos has a select few witches hanged and taken to the morgue where they could be butchered by him or Hunter (a form of punishment) for food privately.

I always saw Grimwalkers being a limited product due to having very limited sources. I mean there aren’t many palistorm trees, selkidomous are rare, stonesleeper lungs where already limited at the start and might degrade over time, and the galdorstones are difficult to obtain. Realistically, I think Belos could only have a max of two grimwalkers at a time since he’s reusing parts.

Also the horror that Hunter’s body parts had been reused multiple times for past Golden Guards is too horrific to pass up. I think Belos harvests the corpses for these parts after killing them, all besides the bone since that’s too tedious for what it’s worth. So as much as he would like to make Hunter cannibalize other grimwalkers for experiments, he can’t do that unfortunately without further degrading a limited source.

(I think he would have had more sources in the past where he would have been able to do experiments on the grimwalkers until these materials eventually became unusable and he had to be more cautious on what he used his remaining materials on, much to his dismay)

So the best he could do is make Hunter eat the bones. Yes our boy eats bones, plenty of carnivorous animals do and it’s a good source of calcium. Though he can’t survive off them, thats an incredibly deficient diet. Since Hunter is actually consuming something that’s the same species as him, this is genuine cannibalism and it makes him incredibly sick.

Hunter is unaware of this of course, assuming it’s some random witch bone that tastes weirdly gross and is also a bit aged for his liking(not like he has the option to be picky)

Like I said, it makes him sick. Like he’s been poisoned sick. Through these are just bones and who’s to say that Belos doesn’t have grimwalker organs and flesh, preserved somewhere in storage. Might explore that possibility in the future.

I've been thinking of rewriting toh scenes just in little parts, so I picked Hunter and Belos interacting in Eclipse Lake

It took months to even find any sort of small amount of power to keep the portal standing long enough for the pieces to be put together.

Belos fidgeted with a glass piece from the yellowed eye in the top center of the portal, squinting at the cracks to find where this little piece went.

He heard Hunter enter clear as day from the heels that he wore clicking on the stone floor. One thing him and his brother had in common was their love for wearing long heeled boots.

He knew Hunter was stareing so he made it known.

"You want to see how it works, Hunter?" He asks with a calm honeyed tone, turning his head slightly to look behind him.

Hunter stepped more forward, his gaze not leave Belos as he tried to read his mood.

"My apologies," Hunter spoke calmly, bowing his head

"Oh no, don't start with that" Belos replied with a small smile making Hunter look up in confusion.

"You know, me and your..." Belos paused for a moment hating the next words to utter from his mouth.

"Father... built this together. " he finished looking at his reflection in the eye of the portal.

"Really?" Hunter asks, his eyes wide with curiosity.

"Yes, but that was before he was taken by those.. wild witches, " he hissed through his teeth looking away from his reflection.

"Is there anything I can do to help?" Hunter asks, hoping to make himself now useful after his first failed attempt.

Belos smiles softly with a kind look in his eyes.

"You can make yourself useful by staying here. You got hurt pretty badly after the crash. I would hate for you to get hurt again, " Belos says sweetly, escorting Hunter to the door.

"If this Is punishment at least let me prove myself to you! I-I can get the blood! Kikimora can't be trusted to lead!" Hunter begs making it hard for Belos not to smile.

"Goodnight Hunter, I'll come by later to check on you" Belos says simply with a loving gaze before he shuts the door on Hunter softly

it's sound weird, but i have headcanon that Hunter didn't go hexside, because he too old to shool(according to my feelings, at the end of the he is 16-17 y.o (except for the post-credits scene), and at that age it is already too late to go to school):p

i mean, well- in my opinion he rather certainly did go to hexside, since one of the things he'd said during his TTT monologue was "i'd like to attend hexside like a normal student and play flyer derby with my friends" and all of his "wishes" were supposed to sort of foreshadow his goals and his future (carving palismen, studying wild magic, etc etc) so i feel like it's safe to say he succeeded in becoming a hexside student as well. we also know he attended grom with the rest of his friend group, and like- since he's 16 before the timeskip (no canon certainty whether he's recently turned 16 or is going on 17 already though, but like... around 16 canonically) that means he'd get at least 1 year of school, but most likely 2+.

my personal headcanon is that he went to hexside for around 2 years (full or not quite, depending on when the school year starts in the boiling isles and how long it lasts; possibly even 3), and during that time he picked up a mentorship/apprenticeship at del's palisman carving shop, and after he graduated from hexside he started carving palismen professionally with the clawthornes (i like to think that he also takes some courses at eda's wild magic university in his spare time, simply cuz . funny uni hexsquad shenanigans)

Sometimes I wonder what would’ve happened if you hadn’t found me that night. At the time, I think part of me knew that you would, that you would come back. Most of me just really, really wanted to be dead. In some ways, it was impulsive. I didn’t decide to try it until you said you were going off to find food. I figured that was your way of letting me down easy and that you were gonna go find a real witch to be with. A stupid assumption to make about you of all palismen. But my brain was sort of falling apart. My life was ruined. I had nowhere to go. He would find me eventually. He would find me and then kill me in the most painful way he could think of.  Did you know they used to hang suspected witches in the human realm? I read about it in that stupid “Witch Hunters of Gravesfield” book. Almost laughed at the irony. I was barely conscious when you came back, but I was aware enough to hear you. I’d never heard you so scared before. Chirping at me as you pecked at the rope. Hopping around in front of my face as I gasped for air. Hunter scary! Scare Flapjack! You nibbled my hair. Can’t leave. Hunter stay. Hunter stay. As I lied on that floor, struggling to breathe, I was mad at you. Not for long, of course. How could I stay mad at you? And I wasn’t actually angry. I mean, I was sort of always angry. But mostly I was scared.  After sitting up and having some Hexmix, I started thinking a little more clearly. Clearly enough to realize you weren’t going to leave me. And if I had just one little bird with me, I wasn’t completely alone. Flapjack love Hunter. “Love you too, Flap,” I said. Hunter not breathing, scare Flapjack. Your eyes looked so sad. “I won’t do that again.” Make promise?? No more rope?? “No more rope,” I said. “I promise. Hunter stay.”
