So it was, that in the year 9:38 Dragon, the young Marianna Armida Drago took up leadership of the Drago House, as was her due.  She returned to Nevarra after years in cold unwashed Ferelden, and led the House to greatness and renown, the likes of which it had not seen since her mother, the famous Bellaflore Drago, disappeared in 9:22 Dragon.

(Maker save me from fools who speak ill of Ferelden as though it’s the latest fashion trend.  Anyway, the Drago house was in financial turmoil long before the departure of Lady Bellaflore, who infamously had no interest in acting as the House’s head.)

Though well-liked by many, and sought after by scores of young noblemen and women, Lady Marianna took neither spouse nor lover in those first years.  And it was said that she had passion only for dragon-slaying, as those of her House who came before her.

(”Scores” of suitors seems to be an exaggeration.  There are official records of two suitors from Nevarra, and one from Antiva, all of whom were very quickly disillusioned of a possible union with Lady Marianna.  We do not have record of Lady Marianna taking lovers or consorts, however; in this, our Drago propagandist has it right.  And Lady Marianna never conducted any dragon hunts in her life.)

Therefore, it came as a great surprise when in the year 9:41 Dragon, Lady Marianna Armida, of this esteemed House Drago, announced that she intended to take as her wife the Fereldan Ambassador to Orlais, and the Queen’s royal aide, the Lady Delia of the lesser Fereldan House of Fowlis.

(The only ones surprised by this turn of events were those of Lady Marianna’s peers who had not the slightest inkling of her character; many in Ferelden - including the Queen herself - predicted this union long before it took place, and there are even records of letters passed between House Drago’s most preeminent generals speculating how long it would take Lady Marianna to ask for Lady Delia’s hand.  They’re quite amusing, actually.)

Little is known of the reason this union came to be.  Among the most believable rumors and speculations surrounding this union is that Lady Delia, as a lesser Fereldan noblewoman of great ambition, attempted to corrupt a true emblem of nobility for the sake of power or money or even increased political influence, and Lady Marianna fell victim to her wiles, as the hunting of dragons is a lonely profession.  However likely though this sounds, we ultimately have little more than conjecture.

(I see it time and time again, but it never fails to astound me the lengths these so-called “house scholars” attempt to go in the name of the “preservation” of their house’s reputation.  We have many records that attest to the reason for this union being a shared love between these two women; we have accounts from their closest friends and confidantes, observations from other merchants and nobles with whom they had extended business, and even letters between the women themselves. I’m uncertain why this scholar believes that ignoring the marriage between Ladies Marianna and Delia will achieve anything, as there was no attempt made at secrecy regarding the relationship, nor any scandal to harm House Drago.  It’s ridiculous, really, that so devoted a pair should be subjected to this nonsense, even when their legacy speaks for itself.)

This is my DAI redesign for Delia (left) and Marianna (right).  Because they evolved and I wanted to draw it~

Halfway through writing this, I decided I wanted it to be a historical document about them because I love those, and then realized I had to come up with names for new ages because... verisimilitude.  

So, here we are, the age following the Dragon Age is called the Magic Age because many changes (in my headcanon) were made regarding and with magic.  The age following that is the Wisdom Age because it became something of a renaissance regarding the approach to knowledge, learning, historiography, and scholarly approach to record-taking and keeping.  The end.  (Though probably not really because if BioWare actually goes past the Dragon Age in their canon, I know this is going to be bowled over! xD )
