living for alhaitham's inherent curiosity about kaveh being the catalyst for an odd textual mystery...??

he already read the Very Bad novel in the house of daena before kaveh got hold of it? but then seeing it in their study and knowing kaveh must have checked it out, he... opened it anyway despite already knowing the contents?? 1) because he knew kaveh wouldn't mind, and 2) because he was curious what kaveh thought about it?? considering that he knows kaveh makes annotations in books??

he saw kaveh circle the killer's name in permanent ink, effectively spoiling the novel, no matter how terrible, and joined in by circling a name to create a red herring, but also because he thought circling names was funny <3

he put the book in the same place in the study and didn't say anything to kaveh when kaveh went to return it, and kaveh went about believing alhaitham knew nothing about it, until the quest comes full circle and kaveh returns to alhaitham to tell him the news, only to find out that he and alhaitham were jointly the instigators for the conspiracy.

the quest is THEIR fault!! but.. the conspiracy wouldn't have happened if alhaitham hadn't made the second circle,, so… if he hadn't been curious about something that occupied kaveh's time..., that’s so !!??

No joke when I first saw this design in a video with Natlan lore, I legitimately thought the video creator was using some random game to represent Natlan.

To say I’m surprised would be a lie considering how I saw this coming even before Sumeru came out; the moment I read in the wiki that Natlan was inspired from precolonial Latin American and some tribes in Africa, I stopped playing Genshin for around a year.

Often, the moment authors start meshing together countries and regions together, it starts to become… murky and harder to execute with proper acknowledgment to the sources of inspiration. Especially since the thing is… these are two continents oceans apart which did not have significant/apparent enough interaction between each other prior to colonialism.

As a mestizo (mixed) Latino, I cannot speak entirely for the various indigenous populations/groups represented within this one region, but the lack of care for skin tone and respect for the cultures it is based off—it’s sad. It’s depressing for me.

This company and many others are using less represented cultures as exotic and fun cosplay.

A fantasy costume party for their pale-skinned, idealized white characters—parading around names which erases real life deities from people’s immediate knowledge and now are replaced with some gacha-ass looking dude with barely a drop of melanin. Now when I search up Ororon, all I get is that dude, which is not fucking good since the name is of a Yoruba deity.

I want people to actually commit to not playing Genshin and other Hoyo games if they really care to boycott. I’ve been discovering the extent of how the other games are just as disgusting as Genshin; it’s not enough to just boycott one game, if you want to get your message across to a company, do it to all their products.

I’ve seen people say to do it, yet go on and still play.

Do it.

Fucking do it if you actually are enraged by the blatant racism in this game and in this fandom.

Those who are bystanders are just as culpable as the ones who perpetuate it.

I will now be changing all my socials if they involve Hoyoverse content; I will no longer interact with Hoyoverse content, whether that be fan-made or official, unless it is discussing this matter or redesigning characters whether that be from Natlan or Sumeru.

I know likely many others won’t do the same; it’s an interest, it’s many people’s favorite game, a comfort. And many people are comfortable—fine—with racism in their interests, as long as it can be sugarcoated and excused, y’know… “it’s not bad because there’s some white people there too in real life!” Yes! But it’s majority brown.

Especially before colonization happened.

The puns Cyno said during "Give Her Sweetness" when you return to Caravan Ribat tried really hard to keep to the original and I was kinda interested in seeing how the localization team handled it. I also just like puns, and these puns are honestly p good, so I wanted to give folks who were curious a breakdown below:

The Padisarah "proof in the pudding" joke tries to match with the original CN pun and it was ok ngl. The words cold pudding 「冷布丁」 :: [lěng bùdīng] is a perfect homophone for the phrase to be surprised/suddenly 「冷不丁」 :: [lěng bùdīng]. Knowing this, he says: 「怎麽樣？冷布丁吃到一塊兒冷不丁的感覺」 or roughly “How is it? Do you feel surprised to eat cold pudding?” where the text in bold sounds identical in chinese and Paimon accidentally re-uses the pun with 「...幹嘛冷不丁講一個冷笑話？」 "why did you surprise(/cold pudding) me with a cold joke"

The "why Henna Berries can't lie" joke also suffers from being lost in translation, but the red⟷read pun was a good save. The pun comes from the homophones for the classifier for leaves/petals 「片」 :: [piàn] and lie 「騙」 :: [piàn] and how cheat 「欺」 :: [qī] sounds like seven 「七」 :: [qī]. This is a bit to take in, but with this information, he says: 「應爲...它的花瓣想來只有五篇，絕不可能存在欺騙」 which comes to "Because... it only has 5 flower petals, it can never have the existence of deception." where the text in bold sounds identical in chinese to 7 petals.

The "bass lake eating their worms" joke was a little bit of a stretch but again, it's trying to keep the original puns. The joke hinges on the the fact that bass are freshwater fish and that the homophones for breaking a promise (lit. eat words) 「食言」 :: [shíyán] and eat salt 「食鹽」 :: [shíyán] sound identical. Phew! Okay, now to what Cyno says: 「是嗎？那你敢對湖裏的鱸魚們發誓嗎？」 which is “Really? So do you swear by the bass in the lake?" 「...湖裏��鱸魚,它們可從不食言」 “...the bass in the lake, never break their promises (/eat salt)”

And the final bonus pun is translates well enough into english, the line about "I hope so, I just handed it to you." There's an idiom where you'd say Leave it to me/us/etc. 「包在我身上」 :: [bāo zài wǒmen shēnshang], but this is literally the package is on us. So it comes out as: Paimon：「行，包在我們身上！」 or "Ok, leave it to us!" (/ the package is on us) 「嗯，這一包赤念果的確在你們身上」 "Mn, these Henna Berries are indeed on you."

I FORGOT THE BONUS BONUS "hat trick" PUN WITH WANDERER. I've talked before about how Hat Guy is related to being called A-Mao in chinese, but Cyno turns that into a pun with his TCG joke as well. The phrase to play cards 「打牌」 :: [dǎpái] is strung together with hat 「帽子」 :: [màozi] in order to create the term to refer to counterfeit items 「冒牌貨」 :: [màopái huò]. Last one now! 「你的牌...會變成冒牌貨!」 aka "Your cards .... will become counterfeit!"

Like there's the guards in Fontaine (Forgot their name <//3) and corps of 30/Matra in sumeru, Doushin/Bakufu/Shogunate in Inazuma, Millelith in Liyue and Knights of favonius in Mondstadt. I like to list all the characters in law enforcement and cry about how there are no playable characters that are a part of the Millelith

what do you think about the kaeya = caribert theory? i saw some people use it as an 'explanation why his skin is dark' like. oh he used to be a Monster and the skin is a remnant of it :) and it pissed me off so bad. i need to know what other people think about it

its honestly not a theory im super fond of i think its a little stupid no offense. i dont think it makes a lot of sense? to go super in depth i'd have to take another look at the caribert quest (and maybe read up on the khaenri'ah lore we have so far again) but i kinda feel like it establishes pretty firmly that kaeya couldnt be caribert. descended from that branch of the family maybe (though im more fond of the theory that kaeya is descended from the branch of alberichs that were actually being regents, something that chlothar wasnt involved in because he distanced himself from the rest of the family to look after his son) (makes sense that kaeya would know more about the alberichs being the regents in khaenri'ah than he knows about an alberich being the founder of the abyss order) (theres a post about it i reblogged it some time ago and it hasn't left my mind since) but like.. him actively being caribert? sounds.. honestly really dumb to me.. don't ask me how kaeya isnt (or at least doesn't seem to be) affected by any curse, be it monsterification or immortality, but i just feel like that isnt the explanation. the actual explanation could be related to the events in caribert though.. cant wait for them to tell us what it actually is lol. on the off chance that this fucking theory is true then ill just bite my tongue i guess but i know im right. ok now moving on to the elephant in the room. what kind of take even is thatttttt "thats why his skin is dark"what is bro talking about🔥🔥‼️ if i read that with my own two eyes id block a person SO fast. why would you say that and treat it as serious evidence and backing for your theory. thats just. racism basically. what. anyways kaeya whos half from sumeru supremacy
