ABSOLUTELY something I’m planning on addressing in my project! Alhaitham’s misconceptions about Kaveh were a large part of their falling out (I actually think you’ve talked about this before, that he thought Kaveh just needed a “wake up call”), but now he’s come to terms with Kaveh’s unchanging nature— problem is, Kaveh also sees Alhaitham as unchanging

Now, Alhaitham is unchanging in many ways, some of them reflecting the same ways Kaveh himself is unchanging, but just as Kaveh begins to realize that while his ideals will not change, some of his methods might, Alhaitham has learned something similar! And Kaveh doesn’t realize this!

From the end of Kaveh’s character story 5:

Which is also just— so very homo of them to say and a very succinct explanation of why I’m obsessed with them, I’m a sucker for foils who are interdependent

As for Kaveh assuming Alhaitham must want something in return for housing him, his voice lines are not the only place this is mentioned!

From just barely earlier in the same character story:

Here we actually get the double hit of Kaveh assuming selfishness of Alhaitham and falling prey to his old guilt complex!

the way that alhaitham adores kaveh...

it's unconditional love without expectation of return

it's wishing the other person to live their best life even if that life doesn't include you anymore........

it's working on yourself to address the problems that split you two apart in the past but respecting their desire for distance still

anyways alhaitham is annoying (in fact, he's weaponised it) but not in the "nice guy" way of demanding something in return for kindness (which trips kaveh up bc he's stuck on "but what could i possibly do for him?)

still not over how kaveh's perception of alhaitham was stuck at his understanding of alhaitham's character from their fall-out, aka when they were both at the akademiya

& how that mismatch between his memory of alhaitham vs the real alhaitham of now led to so many misunderstandings between them
