From Rainer Honeck's facebook: "Apart from the collaboration with Christoph Waltz, there was another rare "historical" aspect to the performance of Fidelio: I had the opportunity to make music with my brother Rainer [concertmaster of the Wiener Philharmoniker] (who graciously and spontaneously stepped in for our concertmaster, who fell ill) and my son Matthias!"

I'm curious about this Fidelio, as I both appreciate Waltz as an actor & have heard about his directing ambitious for a while... can anybody recommend it? Or did it try too hard to be smart (I saw some previews which worried me)? Please do respond with your thoughts!

Beethoven composed his 7th symphony between 1811 and 1812 in the beautiful North Bohemian city of Teplice. Famous for its spas #Teplice was also known for its busy cultural life and classic architecture and was nicknamed as “Small Paris”. Beethoven went there to rest and improve his health. The spa where he stayed was called 'Beethoven Sanatorium'. I guest conducted the North Bohemian Philharmonic of Teplice on five occasions and always was hosted by the orchestra at the Beethoven Sanatorium. Walking around in this building and in the beautiful streets of Teplice I would always imagine Beethoven coming out of a corner.
