Can I just say...

This entire episode is incredible through and through, but I just want to talk about this scene in particular (because my brain wouldn't shut up about it)

Throughout EP27 Hongniang seemed out of sorts, even if we take to consider her more serious personality she seems particularly tense this time

Which was very much by design; Hongniang was supposed to seem suspicious, and this scene in particular does an incredible job at highlighting that

In the manga, Hongniang seems to be just her usual self; serious and collected. When Maomao points out that it was unusual for her to speak harshly of someone, she immediately covers her mouth, aghast by her own behaviour.

But in the anime? She acted as if she was doing that on purpose, not even bothering to think about her callous attitude of mocking a consort as a maid. If anything, her voice dipped in even more venom the more she talked about Consort Jin

To further highlight the differences in the anime and manga, when Hongniang goes on to explain Consort Jin's poisoning attempt on Gyokuyou she seemed panicked in the manga, trying to reason why she's acting the way she is when it comes to Jin. In the anime, she doesn't seem apologetic in the slightest; she spoke very matter-of-factly, as if she was trying to justify something that wasn't just her rude behaviour

Throughout this entire exchange, Hongniang's face never left the shadows. Her eyes reflected nothing as she spoke about Consort Jin, and her expression was fixed in an unreadable poker face

The biggest factor of why this scene shook me so much was definitely her voice; her voice doesn't shift, doesn't hold an ounce of sympathy for the deceased woman, the consort, she was talking about. And yet her tone changes ever so slowly, from merely impassive to almost downright vile, if you manage to pick it up

All in all a fantastic episode, very thrilling; I loved 'Cold' playing in the background of this scene (and by god if the other osts in this episode are also from S1 PLEASE tell me their names)

ngl after playing a good chunk of the 2.6 update i have serious mixed feelings on reca's en voice...

quite frankly he suffers from the same issue as itto's en va in that the voice actor is giving way more energy and personality than the animations in game. but it feels more exasperated in reca's case; outside of the scenes where reca is just straight up unhinged and crazy eyed, the mis matched energy between the vocals and visuals takes me out of the game/story...

fingers crossed going forward they dial back the camp a wee bit in his 'normal-ish'/just speaking scenes because then it would be perfect.

Brainworms about the ending of the Nightmare Before Christmas TWST Event *SPOILERS*

Alright, so this event was pretty fun with different character interactions in the frequent rotation of groups (love to think of Yana/the writers thinking "Ok, what would be the WORST groups possible for this 1st rotation"). But, other than that, the big stand out of this event for me would go to Skully and the Twistune at the end. Man, I felt so bad for Skully the moment when Jamil and Leona stopped him and they began talking with Sebek and you could just see Skully's despaired face. Like, yeah he had a thrilling fight with Sebek since they're around the same level, but getting trounced by Leona and Jamil? He didn't stand a chance.

Not to mention I think his health bar is the lowest an event character has been? Ok looked into the game and got screenshots of the past Halloween boss fights in their peak form in comparison to Skully at his strongest:

So, to know that Skully did the best he could with what magic he knows and has the capability to control, yet got pretty easily defeated while losing all those he had thought could understand his most beloved holiday…it hurts man. Also from investigating what people thought of the ending as well as what, you know, happens, it seems that the Book was a sort of timey wimey area where the Skully of the past was able to meet the present day NRC boyos. With that, he was able to gain a new perspective of Halloween from them as well as confidence from Jack in spreading Halloween through Twisted Wonderland. Which, in any case is pretty freaking impressive that in TWST canon, HE'S the one who popularized Halloween and made it a TWST staple. In the not really same vein, I also love the theory he was in Ramshackle dorm thanks to the web decorations on his portrait. His ghost will watch over us~

Okay, on to the second thing which is the Twistune. Gosh it was so good and actually made me feel awed. I expected that they would throw in some of the English lyrics here and there, not that the WHOLE SONG WOULD BE IN ENGLISH!? AND! IMAGINING THE VOICE ACTORS PRACTICING THE PRONUNCIATION OF THE WORDS AND AGHHHHHH. I am just amazed that they did this and am so happy. I would've loved hearing the Japanese version and it would've 100% been fantastic, but hearing them sing in English really got me in the feels. There's probably more to say on the different aspects of what occurred in this event, but I just wanted to bring up these specific things that have been gnawing in my mind. Anyways, a little late to say this but Happy Halloween!

So I forced my irl friends to watch The Unrelenting Aubergine the other day and I genuinely forgot how unhinged sfth plays are???

Like I've always thought of TUA as their tamer of plays since it has no incest and minimal "risqué" content, but watching it with them made me realise just how much innuendo there was. I've always thought that there was less innuendo than expected since the play literally has the word "aubergine" in it, but now I see that no...The Unrelenting Aubergine is also very much chaotic and unhinged and sfth-y.

Also, their only context going into this was that two of the guys kiss in the end, so throughout the entire play one of my friends would point at the characters onstage and ask: "Is that the kissing scene?" and I'd tell him to wait until the end. I think they liked the love story though, which is very cool (I would've disowned them as my friends if they didn't like the love story /j).
