Because I Wanted That Brother

Yellow there everyone! It’s your favorite Dreamtale angst author back at it again with another oneshot centered around Dream Sans and his conflicted feelings over Nightmare being happier with his gang that he was with his own brother. 

This is inspired partly by Dreemurr-Skelememer’s Dreamtale tweets/posts and inspired partly by that one TikTok of Ink and Dream with that one Good Place audio that’s like “Why can’t you accept that [Nightmare’s] living a good life? That he’s changed?” “Because I wanted that Brother!”. You know that TikTok? I’m going to assume your do. If you don’t, I think you still get the idea.

I wrote this all in one sitting, so if there’s any spelling mistakes and grammar mistakes, that’ll be why. But I do genuinely like it and I hope you do as well! Be sure to let me know!

Summary: “While hanging out with Ink, Dream notices Nightmare and his gang hanging out one time outside of battle. He watches them for a bit and has a few realizations during a talk with Ink. (UTMV, Dream Sans Centric)”

Ink had wanted to go to an AU and sketch some things. Blue was busy doing things in his AU, so Dream is the one Ink dragged along on this adventure. He isn’t complaining that much, it was rather relaxing. He was just also tired from working for hours yesterday and had originally planned to use this one rare free nothing-to-do-at-all day he had to sleep. But Ink convinced him to come, and he was glad for it.

They spend a couple of hours roaming around the forest for a couple of specific spots Ink had found a few days ago. Of course, because Ink already forgot how to find them, they get lost a few times, but they do manage to find them after some scouring. Dream dozes off a bit at the first location, and almost does at the second one, mostly wavering between zoning out and sleeping. After the third one, though, they got hungry and they teleport to a different AU for some food, a break before they went to the other AU Ink wanted to sketch in.

Once they get their food, Ink stares at Dream for a bit before silently taking out his sketchbook. He tries to ask what he was drawing, but Ink stays tight-lipped about it. It became apparent what he was drawing after the crown was finished, though, and Dream blushes a bit as he realizes Ink was drawing him.

Ink glances up and smirks at him, shooting him a wink. He rolls his eyes and chuckles. Dream sips at his drink and glances up, immediately making eye contact with Nightmare.

He freezes.

Nightmare freezes as well, eye socket widening slightly. He’s on the other side of the street, with a couple members of his gang. He assumes the other two have gone off somewhere. Maybe to get some food? Like what Ink and he did. The other two members of his gang haven’t noticed them. They stay locked in the staring contest for a minute.

He slowly sets his drink down. He fidgets a bit, warring with himself. A big part of him wants to jump up and run across the street, say hi, and start talking. This is a rare moment where they’re not fighting each other, and clearly not planning to any time soon. He wants to take advantage of it and try and talk to Nighty civically, but what would he even say? It’s been years since they’ve had an entire conversation. What does Nighty even like anymore? Does he still like reading? Can he even start a conversation with a question about reading? Or should he be more generic and talk about the weather first?

He doesn’t know.

But he does know this staring contest is getting awkward fast. Should he go over and say something? It really feels like he should. But he can’t bring himself to. What if Nightmare doesn’t want him to come over? What if he gets mad at him for talking to him like they aren’t enemies? He doesn’t want to be the reason Nighty had a bad day. Maybe he should just look away and pretend he didn’t notice him. But what if that makes him upset? What if he thinks he was annoyed to see him and came over here to confront him about it? He really didn’t want to confront anyone right now.

What to do, what to do���

Before he can make a concrete decision, Nightmare seems to break free of whatever he was thinking and his stare sharpens into a harsh glare. His tentacles flick angrily behind him. Dream flinches and finds his mouth open on its own—what it wants to say he has no clue—and he forces it closed, teeth clicking together. His brother rolls his eyes in annoyance and turns his back on him, tuning in on the conversation Dust and Killer were having.

Dream continues his staring, a guilty taste in his mouth, even though he isn’t exactly sure what he did wrong. A bitter voice in his head tells him he did nothing wrong, that this was purely on Nightmare and his childish feelings. He decides to neither agree nor disagree with it.

Dust mentions something that makes Killer laugh. He smirks and nudges Nightmare in pride. He seems to ask a question. Nightmare rolls his eyes again and sighs, answering. Whatever he said makes the two laugh, hard. They lean against each other as they laugh, and his brother watches them with fondness, shaking his head. His tentacles are the most relaxed he’s ever seen them. He finds himself leaning forward, as if trying to soak in everything he’s seeing. It’s the first time he’s ever seen his brother like this outside of battle. It’s…nice.

It's bittersweet.

There’s that feeling again, the one that says he’s intruding on something, even if he was in the AU first and isn’t with his brother’s group. He wishes he was, though. He wishes the gang didn’t exist and it was just him and Nightmare and Nighty actually liked him. He wishes they were the ones hanging out together, laughing and talking and being brothers and…just, all of that. It’s something he wishes about a lot, and he always feels bad, because he likes the gang and the way they’re his brother’s friends, and clearly he trusts them a lot more than he trusts Dream, and it’s good that he trusts someone. He glad. He is.

He’s just also…not.

He pulls his legs onto the chair, hugging his knees. He can’t seem to look away. There’s a knot in his chest that only worsens when he thinks about it, and so he makes himself keep looking. He must stay like that for a long time.

“They look happy.”

Dream jumps a bit, looking over his shoulder. Ink looks away from Nightmare and his gang and faintly smiles at him, lowering his sketchpad. It looks almost complete. How long had he been staring at his brother, thinking about things he couldn’t change?

He swallows, looking away. “They do.” His gaze is drawn back to them as if hypnotized.

Cross and Killer have returned with nice creams, one for everyone that wanted one. Killer gets a bit too excited and one of them drops to the floor. Cross, who had dropped it because of him, stares at it on the floor in despair. It must’ve been Dust’s because now he’s glaring at Killer and lunges for him before he finishes apologizing. The shriek is heard from where they’re sitting. Before Dust can do anything major, though, Nightmare grabs him around the waist with a tentacle and separates the two.

He seems to be scolding them, handing some money to Horror for a replacement nice cream, but a faint spark of amusement wavers in the air around him. It’s so faint that, with all the other positive emotions around, Dream wouldn’t have usually noticed it. But because he’s watching closely, he picks up on it instantly, and the frown on his face twists into a grimace.

Ink shifts beside him. “You don’t look happy.”

It’s a gentle observation.

It feels like a reprimand.

Dream inhales. He lowers his legs off of the chair and sets his hands in his lap, interlocking his fingers and holding them tightly. “I’m glad that Nighty’s happy. I am. I’m really glad about that,” he says, the words carefully picked and formed.

Ink’s quiet.

They both watch as Horror returns with the fresh nice cream and Dust takes it, hunching over it as if to shield it from Killer, who rolls his eyes and says something that makes Dust glare at him. Killer continues and Dust starts ignoring him, talking with Cross, who seems to be fighting down his laughter. He’s not succeeding very well. Nightmare has taken out his phone and is occupied with that while Horror finally starts enjoying his own nice cream with a content smile.

Ink turns to Dream, tilting his head. “…But?”

Dream looks at him for a moment and looks back to his hands. There’re hundreds of small scars and scratches covering the bone. A far cry from how smooth they used to be when he was a little kid. “…But, I…” he starts, and pauses, sighing. He scrubs his face. “Stars, I hate myself for it, but I-I’m…resentful of the fact that he’s happy without me.” It’s a relief to get the words out. There’s a beat of silence before he continues. “It just…hurts. And I know I can’t change that, and I should really just be happy for him, that’s it, nothing else to it, but I can’t. I just can’t.”

There’s some laughter coming from Nightmare’s table. He wants to look but wills himself not to, which is made harder when he hears the low chuckle of his brother joining in, almost drowned out by the others. His hands twitch, loosening for a moment. He tightens his hold and steadies himself with a breath.

This conversation was steadily veering off into a topic he preferred not to think about too much. It made him feel too many complex emotions that he didn’t want to untangle, even though he’d have to eventually.

And Ink knows this. Dream has explained it briefly before and that was the end of it. They haven’t talked about it since. It was just the combination of being so close to Nightmare, neither of them looking for a fight for once, and just existing in the same universe together and having Ink, his friend that seems to know his emotions better than himself—and that was especially ironic, considering he was one of the two guardians of emotions—with him. This combination seemed to be the perfect reason to start untangling that knot and he tried to keep his hands out of the mess, but it was getting futile.

“How come?” Ink asks, looking back at the table. He seems to have abandoned his sketchpad for now, leaving it lying open on the table, Dream’s portrait staring blankly up at nothing. “He looks really happy over there. He’s even laughing at something one of his boys said. He’s smiling. He seems to have some good friends and is one himself. Heck, he might even be a good parent to them. You’ve seen how they act together during fights. He clearly loves them and they love him.”

With each fact Ink lists, the tighter his grip becomes until his fingers start going numb. He forces himself to let go and rubs his hands on his pants, getting the tingling sensation out.

Ink looks back at him, a knowing look in his eyes. “Why can’t you accept that?”

And there it was, the golden question.

Dream inhales again, sharply, and there’s a croak of something that wants to resemble words. He clears his throat and tries again. “Because—” he bites down on the word quickly, realizing it came out too loud. A few people around them glance over in question and he waits until they lose interest to continue, lowering his voice. He forces it to remain steady; at least, he tries to. “Because I wanted that! I-I wanted this version of my brother that freely expresses himself. The version that loves and smiles and laughs and is happy. But he wasn’t like that with me. He used to, but then those smiles and laughs grew rarer and I didn’t even notice until it was too late.”

The truth seems to come out fast now that his wall has cracked. He closes his eyes, shaking his head. His chest is tight. Something in him is reeling from the words coming out of him, as if they were being said by a stranger and revealing something it didn’t want to ever be true and knows is true.

He wants to stop talking and yet he doesn’t. It’s shameful, but it’s relieving to say all of this. And Ink, the bastard he is, seems to know this, as he keeps quiet and listens without judgement. What has Dream ever done to deserve a friend like this? It’s so unfair.

He takes a breath. “And then, hundreds of years later, I can’t go anywhere near my brother without him glaring at me and insulting me and-and it—” He scowls to himself, reworking things. He wants to say all of this before anything else breaks or builds and he finds himself feeling things he shouldn’t be feeling so close to his brother, who would no doubt sense it. “I wanted the brother that cares for me, the one that I care for. And because I never got that, seeing him act this way with pretty much strangers, it just feels…it feels like I was never worth changing for. I was never worth healing for and growing for. I was never…”

Something blurs his vision and he blinks, words dying off. He hastily wipes at his eyes and there’s a screech of a chair being moved roughly, arms wrapping around him without a word. In gratitude, he buries his head in Ink’s shoulder and takes a moment to steady his thoughts, regaining his grip on his soul and any unnecessary feelings.

Dream’s mind seems adamant on taking him back to the first few years out of his stone prison, when he was constantly being overwhelmed by the changes in environment and people and, well, really just everything. He was far more unstable then, confused and frustrated over not understanding anything and having to actively fight his brother without holding back, pressure from everyone around him to adapt fast and learn and just accept things already. It had taken years until he was taught by Ink to not let them see him break down, to hide when he didn’t get something, whether that be the latest piece of technology or meme or whatever, and to go along with everything, regardless of how he felt. He had taken the advice with a grain of salt, knowing it was easier for Ink than it would be for him, but he still found it to be the best advice he’d received because it actually helped.

He was looking back and cringing on a few of his moments of cluelessness, but he was mostly focused on how he observed his brother in battle, the way he grew to learn about how his brother changed while defending himself from tentacles aimed for his soul. It had started with an offhanded comment from Dust, something said in the middle of the casual conversation he usually had with Killer and Horror, and Nightmare immediately honed in and scolded him for it, and the words were almost exactly the same as a moment from their past, except that one had Dream on the receiving end of the scolding, not an observer. Watching that happen, seeing how Dust snorted and waved him off with another remark, something so similar to what he used to do, made him feel like an intruder.

And wasn’t that an odd feeling, to feel like an intruder while watching your brother act like he used to with someone that wasn’t you? It happened more and more and every time he felt like he was being replaced, slowly being written out of Nighty’s memories and turned into a stranger who was nothing but an enemy. He could do nothing about it, either, just hold his bow tighter and shove down the feeling.

In the numerous fights since then, the feeling has only gotten worse. The gang is notorious for joking and conversing while fighting. So many of the conversations and their dynamics with Nighty get too familiar. And it’s even worse when you remember that he can feel how fond his brother is of their antics; the hint of nostalgia mixed in there feels like a slap on the face.

Ink starts to pull away and he lets him, exhaling slowly. He makes the mistake of glancing away and meets Nightmare’s gaze, whose eyelight was fixed on their table, a frown on his face, though Dream knew he was more confused than worried. He quickly looked back at Ink, choosing to ignore it.

He continues.

“If Nightmare had already begun to heal from the villagers in our AU while I was trapped in stone, and if he never thought about me once during that whole time, and if he is in a good place now…it means that I made mistakes that I can never be forgiven for. It means that the mistakes I berate myself for, that everything I shame myself for is true. I’m not a good brother and I need to be more aware of my friends, and catch when something is wrong before they even realize it. Because if I don’t, and if the past repeats itself, then something is fundamentally wrong with me and I can’t change that.”

And if Nightmare is better off with his gang, if that’s truly what was always meant to happen, Dream can’t help but be angry at that. Because why? What has the gang done to deserve his brother? Why do they get to have the loving, content version of Nightmare while he, his own brother, the one he grew up with and survived the village with, gets nothing but hostility? What has he done to condemn himself to this loneliness while they get to frolic and be happy together?

It's not fair. It just wasn’t.

Dream isn’t claiming to be a good person. He’s made mistakes, bad ones, ones he’ll always regret. But doesn’t he deserve to try and make things right with his brother? Doesn’t he deserve the chance to say sorry and not have Nightmare scoff in his face and tell him he’s lying? It wasn’t like Nightmare never hurt him. They’ve both hurt each other. They deserve the chance to heal and grow and continue being brothers, this time with a better understanding of one another.

He misses Nightmare so much that it hurts. He’s only been out of stone for a small fraction of the time that his brother has had to get used to being without him. He understands that Nighty won’t feel this way to the extent that it feels like he’s missing a limb, but Dream does. It’s a shade lighter from how it started, but it’s still obvious in the way he acts and the way he thinks. It’ll probably stay that way for a long, long time, and during then, his brother will only drift further away from him, living his best life without him.

Without Dream.

“If Nightmare has truly changed, that means he was always capable of change. And that means I was just never worth changing for.” Dream swallows, meeting Ink’s gaze. His friend looks sympathetic. He appreciates it, even if it’s for something Ink will never truly understand. “And that hurts, Ink. It just hurts.”

this is a great question!! i actually had to take a moment to think of what i would consider an oc!!!

i generally consider OCs mostly characters with names who have actual speaking roles or an active scene in the fic more than one time, but made up characters who have a background and nameless purpose i think don't really count?

my 'no ocs' comes mostly from the fact that writing ocs, no matter how small the part is, takes monumental effort because you need to start fleshing them out immediately when they're in a crowd of already 'known' characters in order for whatever you're writing to transition and flow well with the fic. and in commissions that means they'd eat up the word count and just make it much much harder to get to the point of fic. and for asks, its just general disinterest to me for an oc because i don't even really have that much interest in dc characters who aren't tim so ocs definitly wouldn't be interesting to me in much of any capacity aside from serving a single story purpose and then disappearing from the story entirely.

C/W (01-05) thoughts

Finished the first C/W arc + first faction game (which really took me a while. I'm blaming PALISADE and also the bad weather and ALSO getting obsessed with finishing a bigass drawing in 2 weeks)!

I've said this in a different post already when I had just started listening, but I had like, way lower expectations on this, which seems silly in hindsight. I think I just have a tougher time relistening to podcasts (it's not an issue with rereading books or rewatching movies, really), and often stop about halfway... But it's just really fun to look at C/W again having listened to the rest of the Divine Cycle (and also the other seasons, because it's fun to look at the different player characters throughout). And like. They've gotten better at this over the years so by comparison C/W is 'worse' but it's still fucking good. When it hits it hits, and it honestly hasn't even really started hitting yet (though there's some good moments already for sure. Mako buying a bunch of robots was exactly as funny as I remembered it being)! I'm pretty much just excited for everything, but the Kingdom Game expecially. Something else I'm enjoying (and he'll always continue to do this, but it's so Present in C/W) is how Austin describes scenes. He uses film making language SO much (Counter/WEIGHT is an anime, right)! It's good stuff. I'm trying to not get too used to the system because I know they'll switch. I know WHY they switched and stuff & agree with that decision but I still think it's a cool system & am enjoying the time with it, even if some scenes do drag on quite a bit (which isn't only because of the system, but it also isn't helping).

Some character stuff, I guess: AuDy: They were my favourite at the start last time I listened and I think that pretty much holds up. They're just good. They don't even do that much in this first arc (although dropping from the ceiling as a distraction is pretty fucking great), & I think most of the really good AuDy moments are still coming up, so it speaks to the fact that it's just a good concept for a character that I immediately enjoy. I'm pretty sure they continued to be my favourite pretty much until September? I guess l'll can talk more on it when I get there, though.

Mako: I'm gonna be honest I remembered Mako as way more annoying than he is. At least in this beginning arc. He's literally fine. His whole fogging robots deal is kind of weird to listen to now, since it's something they'd either not do now or actively adress in the story since it's a kind of way to take away agency that's pretty uncomfortable when you look at it longer. I wonder if there's a way that'll come up in the first Chime mission mini-arc? Their hands are a bit tied there since it's a prequel I guess, but there's probably a way to do it. Anyways, Mako ends up as my favourite by the end of the season, and I actually don't quite remember how he got there? But same with AuDy, I'll talk more on it when I get to September (it's possible it was the clone reveal. I love those).

Cass & Aria: They have to share a paragraph because I don't have an extremely strong opinion on them either from my last listen at this point in the story, nor do I now. I'm excited for Aria stuff expecially though. I've mentioned this before, but I'm definitly better at listening and actually processing information now, and it's extremely possible that I just missed things about both Aria and Cass that were just kind of mentioned in a sentence but are actually very important to their characters. (Looking back, I listened to C/W right after I had covid, so some sort of brainfog might also be at fault.) Expecially because Ali isn't very. I can't think of the right word now. But she's just quieter in play (not audio! that's Art.). It's nice seeing everyone get better at this, but for Ali expecially I'm super excited to see her go back to Aria for that mini-arc.

Re: the faction game - it's really good that I know that they cut back on factions later / consolidate them because it is. Not overwhelming necessarily but it's easy to get confused? I feel like I need to take notes on what factions do or like, also have a list of all of them to check to keep track. It's probably a good idea to check out the summaries on the wiki after I listen to these & see if I missed anything. (I keep zoning out because I'm thinking about different, later Counter/WEIGHT stuff, usually related to something they just mentioned.)

All that aside: with the scenes and also just ideas generally they are pretty much immediately crushing it. Like oh my god that first Snowtrak scene just rules so much. That's critical worldbuilding, smart characterization, and fun interaction between good friends right there.

I definitly didn't draw fanart when I was listening in 2020, and I don't know if I will now, but I'm at least in more of a mindset to even want to do it. (& actually, there is ONE scene I was extremely wanting to draw even back then, I just thought I couldn't do it. I do think I can do it now! And I will at the very least try.) Leverage Redemption Log: The Unwellness Job

We start this episode in a room with an expository camera-pan past some pictures and boxes of MLM herbal remedies. --- Client is a doctor, suspects its an autoimune disorder. All tests are inconclusive.

what in the heck is a "maven"? (google says "expert or connoiseur") Parker will be too busy with the International part of the branch to do much in the first few acts. --- Our marks are Bronwyn and Melanie. (former is Influencer, latter is about to have a medical licence revoked)

"have you ever fought a shark" Breanna, do you even need to ask?

Well, the rabbit hole is working off some pretty evil word association. Lets ensure that by the end of the day, half those words will be coming from Bronwyn's own mouth.

I side with Breanna, what is with the knives today? --- Ok so we're introducing a third mark: Bitcoin Bastard. Because we really needed a second pyramid scheme in this plot. (im worried this'll get cluttered quickly)

Bronwyn seems actually excited by the idea that nanobots are real. Privacy is dead, and Breanna is absolutely right: Her generation doesnt know what it means because Sophies generation killed it. --- Elliot is playing a slightly-creepy pseudo-hippie? ("i listen to their eternal song" feels verry... serial-killer-ey? but then anything with "eternity" sounds like "death" so i guess its just that)

"sweet nectar" like its the way he says it, definitly intended to be creepy.

No Melanie, dont apologise you are the only sane one here.

I legitimately didnt recognise Breanna until i rewound the scene cause i was like "who the heck is Zazi?" --- I like Sophie's yellow jacket. Classic divide-and-conquer, plead to Bronwyn's ego, make her remember how she's too good for Melanie. Honeyed handshake (of eternal life... they're definitly setting up Elliots character to be some kind of serialkiller. Would be a good scandal, but also... kinda likely to backfire if she just backs out and becomes the Hero of the Beautyscene by outing her competitor as a serialkiller....) --- Parker has grown enough in the timeskip that she now refuses to push people off roofs unless they have roof-jumping-training. Good for her. --- Bitcoinbro wants to use the MLM to harvest private medical data. Because of course.

Sophie is actively hating herself every moment she spends with Bronwyn. --- You launched too early. She hasnt yet said anything that would associate herself with Hank specifically, just with bees and honey in general. You've given her an enemy to rally against to become more succesfull by claiming that her honey-based products are different from Hanks.

unpaused the episode, i was right. (though she's not selling honey but stinger-juice). Good quick thinking on her part though. 10/10. --- I absolutley agree with sophie, stealing thoughts in exchange for ones and zeroes, where's the style, the panache.

"I've been keeping up on my evil-lawyering reading" 7/10. Sophie pulling the "only one who really understands", Harry doing the Accountant Special

Breanna's digging a little burrow of her own (and she's a good digger) Even if he didnt go down it he'd still be paranoid (because he's guilty of moneylaundering and doesnt want to get caught) so its only really a cherry-on-top but its a well-crafted one. --- Melanie is in the studio so Breanna needs to distract her. Time to turn an inside man.. Peggy and Hurley mention! Crowd going wild!

Chad is bringing his armed goons to the table. (certainly gonna help Sophie turn Bronwyn against him) --- "Eivor is gonna have to kill you" Well... Guess thats one way to ensure that Bronwyn cant ever run her little scam again, get her to turn on Chad and force her into witness protection, it'd be hell for her the same way it was for the car-enthusiast in the original series. Worse then prison or a fine, (those would actually make her more popular. She'd just brand herself as "persecuted by the system" and a "controversial truth-teller", but if she's on the run from Chads Murdermen... Well, goodbye influencer status)

Oh sophie is pulling the "we're conmen and you're just our mark"-excuse. Which is technically true but as long as you make them think you're after something different then your actual goal, you continue to mislead them. Now Melanie is going to give us the data, Breanna is switching it out for the virus, and 40 mllion bitcoin goes down the drain.

--- Back at the Theatre the team has caught on to Sophie's Missing Person Status. Melanie calls Zazi. "Hank" is coming to help.

"that would've stung, huh" obligatory joke. (also we're about to pretend to lose the fight. the fight is a distraction while we switch the drive for the virus) Honestly, this might be the most humiliating way of taking down a goon yet (and im counting the Looney-Tunes Hole from the Sheherezade job in that. Beaten unconcious with a Qwynneth Paltrow Dildo while getting stung by bees is a humiliation you do not want in your armed-goon resume.) --- Ah we're not switching drives by feigning a loss. We're knocking Eivor out and just bringing a fake drive. Much simpler and it doesnt force Elliot to take an L for dramatic fake-out. Also yes, Harry is good at what he does.

that is a pen. That isnt even an EMP its a stopwatch app used as a distraction while the database whipes itself. --- Oh magnetic phone-covers to pretend them sliding in the car. Didnt know they made those. (but then, i dont use my phone that much, nor do I own or drive a car)

And the look on his face when he realises what he just did to himself.

The issue with the 'polling the percentage of LGBTQ+ users' on the site isn't just the options in the poll, it's also bias and reach. The way the poll question is frased, is kind of more aimed at LGBTQ+ users, like it reads (to me) like a dare for that subset of users so the chanches are way higher that People who identify as LGBTQ+ will click the poll. It also started in those circles, kind of explicitly as a 'fuck you' to staff so it will disproportionally reach groups of users who are LGBTQ+ and who want to prove something to staff, like I think the chances are very low that this poll has reached for example the tradwife circles that exist on Tumblr. Also, as the beginning of the whole poll situation proved with the 'vanilla extract' meme, especially on anonymous surveys, there will be a high proportion of People just going for the option with the funniest result in the end. You can't even filter out all the people who answered this survey from both their main- and sideblogs. So I think it's possible Tumblr staff has wrong numbers, but they definitly have a better way of getting to that number than any random survey started in any random corner of Tumblr.

Okay, so I'm SUPER curious and also SUPER new to your God of Storms AU! I have two questions for you about it: Do mortals need to achieve some sort of feat before they're granted godhood, or do they need to be turned by a full-fledged god only? And does Kabuto make an appearance in this AU? I have a rough headcanon for my ideas so far, and I'd love to compare it with yours, if that's ok! :>

So like Gaara, Kabuto is the son of a shrine maiden, Nono Yakushi, and he wants to follow in her footsteps to become a priest for the shrine. They care for Danzo's shrine specifically. He's the one who sets Nono on a series of impossible tasks in order to keep his favor. Kabuto's a younger follower that helps enact his will in the mortal world when the god's unable to himself. Followers of Danzo are also more likely to wear adornments associated with him, including his masks.

Danzo's influence through his masks slowly erodes Nono's person-hood. She's unable to protect her family, the sole reason she wore the mask to begin with, and becomes an active threat to them instead. The mask's unbreakable and Kabuto can't get her to see reason, so he's forced to kill her to save himself.

The Faceless God has been keeping tabs on this situation of course, he's been having a pissing contest with Danzo for eons, after all. He'll help this useful little lamb, and as payment, the mortal will follow him instead! Luckily, the mask didn't fully corrupt Kabuto, but parts of his identity are taken along with it, leaving him in a serious state of confusion... Aaand in the sights of yet ANOTHER capricious god.

I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out how Kabuto would attain godhood, if he even does so, though! 🤔 Perhaps he'd get sick of being a bargaining chip between deities, and find a sneaky way out of his contract? I can definitely see him being one of the only known mortals to dupe a god, maybe by stealing power from them and becoming one himself? The God of Deception? Of Transience? I dunno, but your AU's really fun, so I went hog-wild lol! 😅

I have not given a role to Kabuto in this au and this one is really perfect for him. Especially being the first (and probably only) mortal to actively work on tricking a god into making him immortal.

To answer your first question though: I depends on the mortal. Some of them are made into Gods/goddess’ because of feats they have achieved, some because the god who found them simply wanted to turn them into a god. For example: Ibiki never achieved some great feat in his mortal life, but was the first mortal murdered by another. When he was found by Tsunade she spoke with the other gods (mostly Hashirama, Mito and Madara) to elivate him into a god because she felt his death could be used, and it was. Ibiki became the god of justice specificly because of that. On the other hand, you have Itachi who died in a war fighting as a soldier for the sole reason of wanting to protect his brother from danger, and Obito happened to find him after his death and got to know him. It was Itachi’s ideal’s of protecting Sasuke that made Obito want to turn him into a hod, and by extension it was Kakashi’s protectiveness of Sasuke (a child left alone in a cruel world after his brother’s death, who died himself because of the cruelty of others) that pushed him to plea for Sasuke to also be made a god alongside his big brother.

So for Kabuto i think he’d definitly go the ‘i earned it’ route but in his crafty way. He genuinly believes in Danzo when he first follows him, but then Nono’s death causes that belief to start crumbling. Which is where Orochimaru steps in to take control.

Orochimaru thinks Kabuto is a worshipper. Their strongest worshipper ever, who tosses Danzo’s mask to the side in favor of wearing one Orochimaru made (because he really does feel ‘faceless’ after worshipping Danzo so long).

Orochimaru thinks that Kabuto is fiercly loyal to them, and in some ways Kabuto is. He’ll do what Orochimaru asks, worship them, and dedicate his life to them

But it’s all with a goal. Kabuto doesn’t want to end up like his mother, a priest lost to the power of a god. He wants to carve his own path. To become a god in his own right, so he uses Orochimaru just as much as Orochimaru uses him. It’s a take-take bond. Kabuto does nothing for free and his determination and stubbornness quickly makes him a favorite of Orochimaru (while Danzo has moved on to his next victim. He has better things to do than hang around and wait for Kabuto to ‘see reason’).

It takes years, but over time Kabuto becomes more than just a follower of Orochimaru. He becomes their most trusted mortal, and honestly person. There’s not even a god that Orochimaru trusts as much as they do Kabuto. At least one of the other gods try to warn him this is not a good thing (probably Tsunade or Jiraiya) but they don’t listen. Kabuto worships them, sacrifices to them every day and does exactly what they ask.

What they ask of course includes a lot of things. Kabuto has killed other god’s favorite mortal’s and earned their wrath but Orochimaru always protects them (like I could see him at least trying to Kill Anko and being faced with a VERY angry Shizune). Kabuto has also managed feats that only demi-gods have been said to be able to do, which earns him the watchful eye of almost every single other god.

I think one of hus biggest feats would be sneaking into one of the gods domains and stealing something that Orovhinaru wants. Perhaps that’s when Orochimaru takes his step outside the line and elevates Kabuto to a god. An act which angers a lot of gods but they can’t really argue with because Kabuto did trick them. He did prove himself and very much earn his place as a god, even if they hate it.

Of course he could also be given a task and wax poetics about how hard it would be for a mere mortal to achieve. How even with all of his skill he’s still skin and bone. He still bleeds and dies, and if he dies then Orochimaru wouldn’t have him to do tasks for them or worship to them. It’s the first time ever Orochimaru is loved to change anyone to a god. They have promises to do so with many other mortals before, but it has always been a lie. A promise to get what they want.

With Kabuto, they realize he’s right. He is just a mortal and Orochimaru’s kind of attached to the work they do. Surely if they turn Kabuto into an immortal he will continue being loyal to them and doing as they please

So they fall for it. They grant him immortality and status as a god, earning him the title of God of trickery (which many incorrectly associate with Orochimaru much to Kabuto’s annoyance) and surgery (gatta have a bit of medicine in there XD)

He’s known for his crafty nature, ability to blend in anywhere and trick even the gods, and his protectiveness of orphans. Those are the only people in the mortal world Kabuto cares about and he is fiercely protective of them, Espeshally against Danzo who loves to seek out the weakest and most lost to use, just as he did with Kabuto.

unfortunately i cant help with the actual medical side of information because i dont actually know whats wrong with me or why this is happening lol ive been to a few doctors but im still in the process of figuring out whats going on and its pretty slow going because i have state medical insurance and so the dr's i can see are kind of shit because they're so overwhelmed with patients

ive been diagnosed with ibs but that definitly is not correct, or at the very least is not all i have. i suspect i might have some kind of autoimmune issue or mast cell problem tho. been looking into MCAS but that's very hard to get diagnosed and tested for because there's not much information currently available and alot of drs dont even think it exists

i got deathly sick around 7 years ago and physically couldnt eat for about 4 months. i was living off 1 tablespoon of chicken broth and 3 saltine crackers a day and lowkey almost died a bit. i couldnt keep anything down and everything i tried to eat i immediately threw back up. genuinely thank god im fat and had excess weight i could afford to lose because i lost 70lbs in 4 months, which if i'd been an average weight would have literally killed me. eventually i started to be able to hold down more food again, but thats when the allergies started. at this point most things i eat cause either lower intestinal issues (cramping, severe stabbing pain, burning, nausea, bowel problems, ect) or they cause a really bad allergic reaction (itchy gums and mouth, stuffy/runny nose, itchy watery eyes, hives, general itching on my hands and arms, difficulty swalling, vertigo, and in really bad cases passing out). i also have severe acid reflux and my stomach is constantly full of acid, which has caused some diverticuli and intestinal bleeding cause my intestines are just kinda erroding. this has all also lead to me developing pollups in my intestines which are like, fucked up collections of pre-cancerous mutated cells, and i have to get those removed every 3 years now so they dont turn into actual cancer

id say if u want to go the route of it being purely an allergy then MCAS would be a decent one to start with as far as autoimmune disorders go. it stands for mast cell activation syndrom and it's when ur mast cells, which control ur immune system and are what produces histamines, go all fuckey and become hyperactive and view everything as a deadly allergen and respond in extreme ways to absolutely everything and anything

they didn't learn the word until they were in high school, but they've never liked being gendered, even as a small child (especially as a small child). they learned the terms around 9th grade, and came out the same day they did.

as the First Child of Rutherland, they did have to come out publicly, and there was a whole press conference about it. i mean more accurately it was a press confrence about transgender rights in Rutherland, but Cillian did come out there

How/when did your character discover/realize they are ace?

this took a bit longer. sex was never really on their radar so they never stopped to think about it. they know by the time they're 22 though

only to Tatum. i have to read a bit more, but i'm thinking they come out to him the same night the "sex scandal" happens. (jury's out on what specifically the sex scandal actually is until i read that chapter but it is 100% just a misunderstanding)

Top three Barbie movies: Barbie and the Diamond Castle has always been my ultimate favourite and I will stay with this idea forever... then you have Barbie and the Three Musketeers and number three is Princess and the Pauper... but I have a real soft spot for Rock N Royals and I just can't rank it in my list of movies because it really holds a special place to my heart...

Favourite character played by Barbie: It's a tie between Corinne and Courtney... Corinne is just amazing. This girl knows what she dreams of and even with everything that happens to her she just decides to do the right thing and to stay true to her dream and what she believes in. She dares to be herself in a world where everyone tells her to be something else. On the other hand you have Courtney who is a sweet little cinnamon roll who basically discovers that she has the right to be herself and that it doesn't mean people are gonna stop loving her if she's not what they expect and want her to be. She appeared in my life when I was pretty much hidding my personality for the same reasons she did, because I feared to be alone and to see her grow and learn to love and accept who she is was important and makes her one of the greatest Barbie role models for me!

Favourite character played by Ken: Technically he isn't played by Ken but let's just forget it in our collective mind. And here there's no doubt for me it's Dominik. I just love how what he looks for in a relationship is what he gives to other people and how nice and sweet and romantic he is....

Favourite secondary character: I have to go with Alexa from Diamond Castle because she's my favourite Barbie character of all times... But I want to also give a spot to my second favourite Barbie character of all times Delancy Devin and to the best "best friend" *cough* girlfriend *cough* Dandelion.

I dont remember why but I started thinking about the bloody Jack series and why I dropped it and it immidiently lead into how much I hate Jamie.

TRIGGER WARNINGS: rape, assault, csa, sex trafficking, statutory rape. All within the context of the first six books in the bloody jack series.

I read the books when I was thirteen and dropped the series halfway through the sixth book, My Bonny Light Horseman.

The series deals a lot with sexual assault. In the first book there is a crewmate who tries to rape her after being extremely blatantly creepy throughout the book. In the second a major plot point is that a reverend at the school she was sent to raped and murdered a girl who looked similar to jacky. In the third she is taken by pirates and almost raped by the captain. In the fourth her and her classmates are kidnapped to be sold into sexual slavery and one of the girls talks about how she was raped by her uncle as a child. In the fifth a young girl travelling with jamie is implied to have been molested prior to running away. And in the beginning of the sixth jackie is once again sex trafficked.

That part of the sixth book she is taken by british naval intelligence and is made to pretend to be part of a ballet troop and sleep with French officers to get information. She never does, she cleverly escapes it just like all the other situations.

The scene where I stopped reading was when she was having a breakdown about how she didnt want to be there and just wanted to be with jamie and have his baby. As a thirteen year old it was my breaking point. I'd been uncomfortable at points but Jackie always got control of her situations. At this point not only did she not have control I also didnt understand why she wanted jamie, much less to have kids with him. But she was distressed, so I got distressed, and I wasn't able to continue.

How does this lead back to hating jamie? Because he sucks.

He made me uncomfortable from the beginning of their relationship. He repeatedly tries to pressure jackie into having sex with him despite her telling him all the legitimate reasons she can't, the major thing being that it will not only expose her as being a girl but most likely also kill her (referring to her getting pregnant as a result. Jackie at this point might think it happens everytime, but regardless with the situation shes in she can not risk it). Jamie brushes off all her concerns and she has to prevent him from pulling her into an unattended lifeboat.

Throughout the other books he is actively tracking down Jackie to be with her. Which gets really wierd. She has other love interests throughout them, all with way better chemistry than him, but even when she rejects him he doesnt give up.

Bringing us to book five and Clementine, the young girl traveling with Jamie. She saves him after he was robbed by bandits and left for dead. She thinks he is an angel sent to save her. He thinks she's very beutiful and womanly. She is fourteen. He is nineteen. They do have sex, including after he finds out. He is shown to be guilty for it, but it doesnt stop him.

He then leaves her with a woman who was very outspokenly against them being together. Without warning.

Had Jackie slept with anyone or even been assaulted you know he'd never let it go. He hated that she interacted with other men and I'm pretty sure he told her she was asking for it by leaning against the ship railing in the first book. Which he definitly said because he was freaking out over also being attracted to her (prior to learning she wasnt a man).

Anyway.

These books are so much worse listed out than they seemed while reading it. Literally every book has rape as a major plot point. I really liked them up until the sixth and want to reread them. But they're so much.

I cant believe she ends up with him. The betrayal I felt. Literally anyone else would be better.

Well thats a hard question to ask because I don't think relationships are on their mind at that point in time.

Not that Ren ever has relationships in mind considering I believe he's asexual.

Jaune definitly be avoiding a relationship because him persuing Weiss definitly had an effect on his self confidence and the Pyrrha situation in general as made him put off relationships for the time.

Nora and Ruby display attraction to Jaune but they know he isn't ready for a steady relationship even if while on their trek through anima they often shared his tent for a night every once and a while.

Yang is still a bit self concious about her arm qnd getting over being left behind by Blake to just jump in a relationship and Blake is still trying to sort out her feelings about her affecting Yang by going back home and killing her crazy ex. So both of them have decieded to work on themselves before they try dating anyone.

Weiss is the most willing to be in a relationship at this point but she doesn't know how to feel about certain people. Neptune openly flirts with other woman and she is no ones side bitch. Jaune saved her life and actively persued her so she knows he would make her a priority but part of her still sees him as the annoyance that kept bothering her in Beacon. And she already decided she wasn't dating anyone from Atlas so she also decided to wait it out. Either to find someone she really clicks with or for her figure out how she feels for certain people.

Oscar has a crush on Ruby but Ozpin being in the back of his head kinda throws a wrench into that. He wants to try to ask her out on a date but he is to nervous and worried about the war with Salem to actually go through with it.

Qrow unknowingly started dating clover. He wants to officially ask the guy out but thinks they're just friends (a similar situation to Summer where he did ask her out but was unfourtunatly refused that date, Raven laughing at him afterwards didn't help.) but he is unaware that for all intents and purposes they have been dating, they just haven't actually made it official and hooked up.

Winter is busy with her duties but that doesn't stop her from finding out Jaune to be a way better catch then her sister described in her letters home.

It also features gnomes that spawn and wait for the appropriate offering, give them the right thing and they will gift you seeds, otherwise they will be angry. They are linked to spring and are very much akin to the fae. Oh and of course, this is the best pack for gardening.

Spa Day: With that name it seems weird to put it so high but listen: Meditation, incense, and the wellness skill (developed with meditation and yoga). I use meditation as a way to have "circle" time in game (and there are meditation stool cc for that purpose!). It is for me essentially, the "ritual" interaction.

Needed per taste / path:

Realm of Magic: I almost put that one up in essentials but only a fraction can be used in a realistic way, and I'm talking about potions. The main reason this is not in essential is because you could choose either this pack or Outdoor Retreat for the "potion" feature. Anyways: this is the actual witch pack, including spells and potions in cauldron and a bunch of cool plants for gardening (and if you feel fancy you can fly on a broom). It also comes with familiars that can boost your confidence when you summon them.

Outdoor Retreat: This pack is the absolute best for more realistic potion-making but has less interesting options than Realm of Magic. Herbalism remedies they are called, though some are to help with stress and sadness or fertilizer (which can be used as a way to bless your plants). You have to collect a variety of wild herbs and bugs in order to mix your brews or you can keep the bugs as pets! How fun.

Paranormal Stuff: This newer addition to the sims is a blessing for any necromancer out there. Séances, which can be done with a séance table with a crystal ball or with a chalk circle on the ground, allow you to communicate with the dead, to appease the spirits (which can help calming and reducing ghostly activity in haunted houses), and to do a ghostly ritual which will make you a ghost for a few hours (which I like to imagine as astral travel). It features not only special interaction with basegame ghosts but also spectres, a new form of spirit which are more simple in personality and that can be appease with offerings or otherwise talked to.

Island Living: This pack is known to add a beachy world with mermaids and boats, but is also hides a very pagan tradition with the trait "child of the island" which has been called "shaman" by some, it makes your sim care about the island, its pollution state, the community events and feel a connection to the ancestors, which are spirits you can meet for wisdom. There is a drink called 'Kava', which is made in a special bowl and can be a nice thing to use as a special sabbath drink or offering. You can also collect seashells!

Got that ONE good feature:

Cats and Dogs: As the name states, it introduces Cats & Dogs and if you have Realm of Magic, your pets can be bound to you as familiars!

Discover University: As a university witch you can join the secret society which have meetings around a mushroom circle just off campus where they hang out in cloacks with the sprites and give them offerings on a stone altar for good luck and positive moods. Basically there are fae witches in University and you can be one.

Eco Lifestyle: Candlemaking! You can make your own candles! They like melt and stuff! Also for anyone interested in environment gameplay this is the pack with pollution and working as a neighbourhood to make the earth greener!

Snowy Escape: Actually this one got a few good pagan things. You can go hiking! Take a meditative walk in the woods, be inspired by nature, or walk up to the mountain shrine to make a wish and/or give an offering. You can also encounter various kinds of forest spirits on your walks and have multiple kind of interactions with them.

Spooky Stuff: Pumpkins! This pack comes with pumpkin carving and I use it every in-game Samhain.

Fun extra / could be useful

Romantic Garden Stuff: This one comes with a wishing well, give it various amounts of money (the bigger amount boost your chances of the wish coming true) and make a wish amongst the various options the game give you. Aesthetically this may be interesting for Hellenic witches who like the ancient greek vibes.

Get Together: The club system is useful for everyone and can definitly be used to make a coven.

Backyard Stuff: It comes with birdfeeders! And also windchimes and lemonade.

Jungle Adventure: This one almost went lower, but I do often use polished crystals on my altars. In basegame you have these relatively big crystal chunks but with the archeology table in jungle adventure you can polish them into smaller oval shapes, basically you can make tumbled crystals.

Just for Aesthetics

Vampires: For those of you who like the goth side of "witchy" aesthetic the Vampire pack will be good for you. One word: candlebra.

Country Kitchen Kit: My kitchen witches with country farm dreams will love the look of this small kit!

Laundry Day: Another one for some rustic fun. Don't like the washing machines? You can wash your clothes by hand! This is great with the off-the-grid lots that come with Island Living.

The thing about "what if explosion but more" was specifically about the gauntlets just making a massive explosion, which isn't the most effective thing for all hero work. It sure has its place against aerial opponents, but the property damage you cause by aiming it anywhere but the sky is too dangerous.

If you're packing smaller amounts of sweat into grenades or landmines to be thrown or placed as tactical, smaller explosions, that shows actual thought behind the effectiveness of the tools. Just because it's destructive in nature doesn't mean it needs to be looked down on, especially if it's based on a mostly destructive quirk.

The only problem I'd think about with the grenades is the fact that they're probably going to be limited to battles where lives are already at stake due to the lethality of explosion-propelled shrapnel. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just means that it's a tool with a specific purpose as an "oh shit this is getting real bad real quick" option.

The landmines run into the same lethality issue, but I think that can be used to a sort of fucked up heroic advantage if the landmines are brightly colored and very obvious to see. Then they could act as a form of soft area control that forces less dangerous villains to give up certain escape routes, increasing the chances of a successful capture or even a surrender.

The emergency spark tool seems like a good idea. I'd put it on Bakugo's boots or some kind of greaves, but the issue of how to activate them comes up. If Bakugo needs open hands to trigger the sparks it kind of defeats the purpose, and motion controls could prevent certain movements. The best thing i could come up with is voice activation (which has its own activation flaws if Bakugo is gagged, the voice commands are misheard by the AI, or someone who can copy Bakugo's voice is the opponent), which might require constant replacing of the microphones if they're damaged by the explosions.

Sparkers on the gloves could be useful is Bakugo is hit with a quirk that prevents quirk usage, because any nitroglycerin that's been sweated is still nitroglycerin even if Bakugo can't light it normally. It would only be effective for niche matchups. Or if there were a bunch of villains with some experimental, temporary quirk-erasing equipment that happened to conveniently be a part of the plot for a story arc.

So yeah re: the gauntlets:

I do think that those are there /specifically/ for situations where massive damage is on the table anyway. I mean. Bakugo already creates smaller and more controled explosions on his own, and can even create some pretty decently sized ones as well. The gauntlets are there for larger things.

I think one thing about this is that it's tricky to make such a destruction-by-default power be less destructive. Not impossible. But even breaking it down into the sweat and the sparking....

He is definitly made to be more of a fighter than a rescuer. He can do both but natural leaning still happens.

romance Movie pitch:

our lonely main character (MC) is on vacation in a mediterran town. It is love at first sight when they see the main romantic intrest (RI) jump from a cliff into the sea. When MC goes to that cliff with the hope to meet RI they are vanished. So MC goes back to the vacation home thinking they have to spend the summer alone.

But the next day they meet again in the museum. RI intrest talks to some old person but when MC enters they end the conversation. Instead MC and RI get to talk to each other for a bit and agree to start dating.

Cut to the cafe where they're agreed to meet. MC is a bit annoyed because RI is too late. they start to face time their best friend about it. In the video we and the MC see some shadow fall down from above right into a cart full of hay. there's a bit suspension but soon MC and their best friend decide it was nothing and return to talk again. in the background the RI climbs out of the hay cart, taps off the hay from their clothes and comes to MCs table. After an apology romance ensues, in the background we see a large group of police walk by unnoticed by our main couple.

we see some more dates, more often than not in some historic buildings in the area. RI works in tech and mostly with computers but is still active and interested in history. other than that we don't learn that much about RI.

one time MC is at home they get a message by RI to meet up with a map on how to get to the place. Next we see an roof window open and MC climbs out. MC looks around over the roofs but doesn't see RI. While facing the window they just climbed out they pull out their phone just to write RI where they are again. RI notification sound plays and when MC turns around RI leans on a small chimney. They definitly weren't there before.

That was my Assasins Creed romance movie pitch I dont have the knowledge or prowess to write an end to it.

To me both jack and rosie are trans and intersex, both of them noticed around Middle school/highschool, while jack was professional diagnosed pretty early rose only went to see a doctor about it much later in life as it didnt affect Many parts of her life.

Also while rose's parents didnt support her through her transition jack's parents just wanted the best for them and while they're very confused they still love jack and rose's family a lot.

Rose was also a lot more active in Their town lgbt+ comunity so she knew a lot of drag queens and kings that helped both of them a lot, like jack learning how to bind with tape rather than ace bandages

They both pretty much have full passing by college and while rosie is pretty Stealth jack is really open about being Who he is, even getting in trouble because of it multiple time in school and outside, he will not miss a good street fight

Also felix is just, fully oblivious about it all lmao, he fully believes both of them are cishet no matter how Many time they explain it to him

Also they definitly have traded clothes Many time, maybe even Their school uniforms back during highschool
