Jacky is from a book series I read as a kid. she dresses up as a boy, makes other boys think they're gay, kisses girls, becomes a pirate, starts a theater, has adventures, becomes a consort to Zheng Yi Sao. I love her.

Though My Bonnylight Horseman is one of my lower ranked books in the Bloody Jack series, Bardot dying at the end, just makes me sob, especially listening to the audio book, as the song Jacky sings him off with, is just lovely.

That book series ended up disappointing me so bad. I realized it was a weird fetish/fantasy thing for the author. At least that’s what it felt like towards the end. Torture porn imo it was weird. And the whole thing of “I’m gonna stay a virgin til Jamie and I get married” thing and the better love interests better men, better women, she’d run into all throughout the series. It got infuriating. The time period also didn’t make sense either? Like pirates weren’t really a thing during the regency? He’d mash up a bunch of timelines and it confused me as a kid. I didn’t care I still imagined corsets and tricorns etc. bc I hated the regency look.
