hey, just as a btw, a fic or a series not uploading for a year doesn't mean its abandoned.
Sometimes the authors have shit going on, other wips, or! it just needs to sit and marinate for a bit. Collecting all the flavor and details it wouldn't have otherwise.
it's okay for updates to take a while.
And if you're impatient? Why not leave a nice comment telling us (the author(s)) what you love about the fic or series? say that you love it, and are "waiting eagerly for the next chapter" and/or that you "would love to see x or y happen because it would mean-"
This could be a new fandom vibe because of all the "i have to drop this while people are still interested" energy, but its not universal, and i don't believe its good for the fandom ecosystem.
Have patience, and have compassion. Remember that authors are human and these fics? (or comics, animatics, whatever) This is our art. We care about it just as much, if not more than you.
#fandom#this is because a bit ago a coauthor and friend of mine got an ask about our series and i had to take a step back#it had only been a few months! in which i had a depressive episode and more life complications#it felt bad y'all. hearing that i wasn't doing enough.#the tone was overall positive#but come on#asking for the notes about the series after only six months of us not uploading? actually it mightve been shorter#i think my coauthor uploaded more recently than i did#good things come to those who wait applies to you too.#sorry for getting all serious but this was seriously bothering me#and i finally have the words!

Saw this post and couldn't resist because,
1.) @tesscourtes' human!Bill is a lil cutie-patootie menace that I very badly wanted to draw, and,
2.) I have a - M I G H T Y - N E E D - for any version of human!Bill to find any way he possibly can to annoy Ford a whole lot :D
Also, 3.) I like to headcanon that Bill's knowledge in The Sciences is mostly limited to 'Ways I Can Make A Really Cool Doomsday Portal', and everything else he knows is just a slapdash mix of the stuff he remembers from whatever schooling he went through on Euclydia, a whole awful lot of lucky guesses (which he WILL gaslight you about if you tell him he's wrong), and - naturally - conning all the rest of the answers he needs out of any more educated saps who are unfortunate enough to be around him at the time (answers which he will then proceed to take credit for), so as far as I'm concerned, this "outfit" is perfect for him.
Ignore the shitty backgrounds, I am sick to death of doing backgrounds, I just want to draw goofy shenanigans, okay???
#fanart#billford#bill cipher#stanford pines#gravity falls#mabel pines#human bill cipher#my headcanon is not to say i don't think bill is smart. bill is clearly Very Smart. he just applies all his smarts to con artistry and evil#which - honestly? MOOD#tagging the ship because this particular AU is Decidedly Billford XD#i'd say 'their divorce is going so well' but i think they're too busy with doing ~other stuff~ to actually get divorced#if ya know what i mean - wink wink#i hope i drew him okay ahaha i tried my best but i am still crawling and scraping my way out of massive art burnout :‚)#and i gotta add - it is ROUGH transitioning from drawing furries to drawing regular humans again O-O;#prolly gonna draw this lil menace again with a few other human!bill designs i like all in one image :3c#for rn tho i have an equally mighty need to address a post joking about how bill is not allowed to swear and hates it#got a few perfect quotes from 'the good place' i can utilize with just that one little concept‚ lemme tell ya OuO

Hey guys. So I know we've all gotten some very bad news, and anyone with a conscience is deeply upset. But one of the things this means is that the situation in Palestine is even more urgent, because we know that while Kamala might have, Trump isn't going to listen to any calls to lessen America's support of violence in Palestine. So, I'm putting out my next fundraiser post a bit earlier than expected - I really, really encourage you all to read these and try to match at least one of my donations, and reblog if you can't. I wish you all the best.
Waleed Ayman Alanqar and family - vetted (#107) - The fundraiser is for Waleed, his wife Areej Haniyyeh, and their 3 year old son, Ayman. They were forced from their home almost a year ago. The fundraiser is to help them raise the money needed for the family of 3 to evacuate to Egypt. They have €1,606 raised of their €20,000 goal - only 8%! - so I'm donating a little more than the usual €5 (€7). Waleed's tumblr account is @ayman-waleed, if you want more info.

Alaa and family - vetted - Alaa and her husband were displaced from their home on October 7, while Alaa was pregnant. Alaa's husband died before their daughter was even born, and now Alaa is raising her baby without him, after having to give birth without the needed medical care. Because of the poor conditions, her daughter has been suffering from illness, including a viral stomach infection and histolytica worms. Alaa needs to pay for her daughter's medical treatments, and for milk and diapers which are very expensive in Palestine right now. They have $14,280 raised out of their $30,000 goal. Alaa's account(s), for more information: @alaa-gaza / @alaa-gaza223

Wafaa Abdul Karim Abu Al-Rish and family - vetted / vetted - The fundraiser is for Wafaa (@wafaaresh3) and her family, which includes her mother, her brother Mohi (@mohiy-gaza), her sister Fidaa (@fidaa-family2), and Fidaa's two children (Sila, who is two years old, and Mohamed, who is 6 months old). They also have a cat. They have been displaced more than 10 times. Wafaa's mother has chronic illness (hypertension), and is unable to access her medicine, which means her health is getting increasingly worse over time. The main goal of the fundraiser is to help the family evacuate to Egypt. Wafaa's fundraiser has $74,018 raised out of her $85,000 goal.

I'm going to post a second part with three more fundraisers soon!
Here's my previous fundraiser posts: Post 1, post 2, post 3

pushing daisies kaishin au #2
pushing daisies au where shinichi has been able to revive dead animals, plants, even people since he was a child.
kudou "i can literally talk to the dead" shinichi
shinichi's parents didn’t exactly encouraged him to use this power. especially not in public. they’ve seen him revive and re-kill dead plants and animals in the same breath, it doesn’t take a detective to figure out what could happen near a human corpse.
but a young shinichi is curious, a young shinichi admired his father, and a young shinichi wanted to prove himself a detective. but most of all, a young shinichi wanted to help.
so when he saw his father struggle in solving a particular case, a young shinichi figured that maybe asking straight from the source would help give them a hint.
the complete horror in yusaku's eyes shinichi saw that day made him promise himself to never do it again.
shinichi realizes later on that reviving someone just for a clue on the whos, hows, and whys of their death only to touch them again, to basically kill them again, is sick and twisted and the realization leaves him feeling raw and dirty.
he then decides that if he’s gonna find out the truth, if he’s gonna bring justice, it’s not by making the victims suffer a second death. he will unravel the mystery not by magic but by logic.
the curious case of kuroba kaito
hakuba immediately contacts shinichi.
“he was...a friend. if i have to gather all the best detectives to catch his murderer then so be it.”
hakuba goes on to explain.
it was a kid heist. shots were fired. snipers. kaitou kid was caught on camera falling, as if he’d been shot, but he appears a minute later flying away on his glider with not a speck of blood on his suit. all should be well however, a few buildings away in an alleyway, the body of kuroba kaito is found dead. gunshots through the heart and chest.
a simple explanation would’ve been that the glider was a fake activated by kid’s assistant as a last ditch effort to save his legacy and this kuroba kaito was kaitou kid himself. he would’ve said it out loud but by the look on hakuba’s face, he can tell that he already connected those dots long before shinichi even stepped foot in the morgue. that wasn’t what hakuba called him for.
“can i...take a look at the body alone?”
hakuba raises an eye at him but moves to leave without questioning. "alright then. i have to check on another friend anyway. she's been...distraught ever since she heard the news and..." hakuba's words trail away as his eyes unconsciously drifted towards kuroba kaito's covered body. shinichi patiently waits through the quiet pain that he sees on hakuba. the pinch in his brows, the tenseness of his body. he must've been a really good friend.
hakuba shakes his head and turns his attention back to shinichi. "sorry, i...its been a long day. i'll leave you here then. call me if you find anything."
left alone, shinichi carefully zips open the body bag covering kaitou kid's upper body. he looked eerily similar to himself and imagining his own body cold and dead in the morgue sent a shiver down his spine. shaking his head, he pulls a chair close and reads through the file hakuba brought him.
"no witnesses. no camera. not a trace nor lead to anything. just some reports on mysterious gunshots in previous heists that lead to nowhere." they were professionals, whoever did this, shinichi thought. it was not going to be an easy case.
he takes another peek at the body. so this was kaitou kid, huh. too young to be the same as the one before his hiatus. perhaps a successor? motive could be related to his predecessor. his mother hasn't said anything of interest. does she really not know or is she protecting him? he runs his hand through his hair. there's too little information to go on...unless...
temptation rears its head. the source of information is right there in front of him. one touch and it could open up new leads to the case. an immediate disgust twists deep into his gut. he promised himself to never use it on people. to never kill. his father's haunted eyes embedded in his mind. he shouldn't. he really shouldn't. but he remembers the anguished look on hakuba's face. if he was going to do it, this might be the only good time. any longer and his touch would not revive kid. and gone along with him would be vital information to catch his murderer.
shinichi heaves a deep sigh. he has never used his abilities on dead people since that one incident as a child but he couldn't shake off the look on hakuba's face. it was now or never. shinichi reaches for kid's hand.

pushing daisies au #1
#kaishin#detective conan#dcmk#dc prattles#shinichi: don't panic#kaito: *remembers what happened* WHAT THE FUCK#lol#also in this au the someone dies after a minute if he doesn't touch the dead person a second time again rule applies#shinichi has never discovered this fact growing up because he never really truly tried to explore this ability#perhaps he himself is freaked out by it and ever since the day he saw fear and the haunted look in yusaku's eyes#he never wanted to revisit it ever again#shinichi would probably connect the dots a little later but#the commotion of someone just dropping dead out of nowhere outside the morgue would be what he & kaito would use as a distraction to escape#shinichi was supposedly only going to ask a few questions and touch kaito again but ofc kaito would attempt to escape immediately#anyway something something pandora revives kaito back permanently so he and shinichi can kiss and make out the end#LMAOOOOO#thank you pandora for being a convenient deus ex machina mwah now kaishin can have plenty a sexy times :>#if you saw me accidentally posting this earlier no you didnt#also i never intended for this to be long or written like this#it was supposed to be a bulletpoint list of hcs but it got out of hand unfortunately LOL#finally out of the drafts after almost 2 years im so sorry this au lmao#there's one last pushing daisies kaishin au in the drafts yippee :D

Need more people to realize that "this thing wouldn't be healthy for me" or "this thing makes me uncomfortable" or even "this thing actively upsets or triggers me" does not make that thing inherently harmful, and in labeling something as inherently harmful based on your own personal experiences with it, you will end up hurting, silencing, and/or dismissing many people who do not share said experiences or even have completely opposing experiences with said thing.
Before you label things as morally wrong based on personal experience with it, take the time to consider if that experience applies to other people who have interacted with that thing by default, if the harm is actually inherent, or even has a high correlation, or if it is on an individual level.
#this could apply to so many types of discourse tbh#so apply it to what you wish#listing a few I've seen this issue come up in though:#fandom discourse#syscourse#shipcourse#lgbtq discourse#queer discourse#honestly probably because that's the discourse I've seen the most in general#or been involved with (minus shipcourse I haven't really touched that in a while bc it is toxic af in my experience)#discourse

I'm interested in reading tim's comics but I fear I may have gotten too many (general) spoilers about what happens to actually manage to enjoy it. if you've read his comics, how much did you know beforehand?
I knew the timeline of when he became robin, his general approximate meetings with characters like Steph, jason, Damian, and existence of Red Robin before. Who he loses.
The good thing about getting into reading character comics is that it’s impossible to know everything. It really is unless you’ve got around 10 years or so invested into it or you’ve got maybe 4-5 years of hardcore reading. Even then if you only read solos, you don’t know how the character exists in other people’s pov until you read outside of the main popular recommended comics. For example, in some comics Batman might the biggest broodiest saddest asshole, in others he’s a sopping wet cat broken hearted man, in some he’s really funny and beats people up.
Knowing things didn’t spoil enjoyment for me because knowing big events didn’t mean I knew how they were set up, which character interactions lead up to that part, and how the author weaves around elements for the build up. I don’t know about what happened in the timeline, in real life, that causes editorial to make those decisions specifically until I read the comics and I learn what happens in the background.
If you’ve got a serious detail obsessive brain itch like me, no amount of spoilers will ruin it for you, probably! You should read it anyways. Reading the comics yourself will feel good because you can feel the puzzles start to piece itself together- in a sense. And a bit of a hot take but if you are ever uncomfortable with a specific fanon depiction that ends up developing, which yknow is okay, we all play with toys. Reading the comics allows you to develop a sense of who they are in a…real way? I don’t know. In a way where they exist outside of shipping, I suppose. It allows you to enjoy the character better because he will exist for you, on a separate plane that will be hard to be ruined by any associations with fandom.
#I’m a huge supporter of reading official comics because sometimes everything you happen to not like in fanon is like not real in canon.#and this is not an exclusive mentality I apply to only Tim drake. basically all my favorites I need to have a 90% canon to 10% fanon ratio.#also you will never finish knowing everything unless you are a comic vet or deeply autistic about it for many many years#if none of this makes sense in a few hours in my defense I just woke up and it’s very early and my brain is super unfiltered right now#maleinbox

Fanfiction is so goated actually
No monetary incentive, just writing in one's free time. Some incentive for like kudos and comments, because who doesn't want to hear that someone else enjoyed what they wrote. Just writing a story that is good and/or enjoyable, no real-life pressure to keep it going because god forbid you and other people are depending on it financially.
Writing a story because you want to write a good story, so you can write what they want the way you want, at a pace that is realistic for you, with exactly the plot pacing you want there to be.
#cael posting#thinking about this after the my h*ro academia leaks lmao#i have read barely a few chapters of the manga and then kept up with it through tumblr osmosis#i was interested in how its gonna end#and after reading the leaks i was like 'well its up to the fanfic writers to write a good ending now'#cause. it was kind of underwhelming. like some stuff made sense and some things were just done badly#which is realistic considering h*rikoshi is apparently burned out to hell#and i was thinking. man. if i had to write AND illustrate a story for like ten years straight. because its my bread and butter#and there are other people depending on the story doing well to make money#it would 100% get to me. i would rather end it all lmao#which is why i think fanfic is so great#just writing a story that you want. that makes sense to you. that has elements you want. that is exactly as long as you want.#and there isnt even a possibility of really monetizing it so there is no drive to make is 'succeed' or make it as long as possible#this could be applied to just writing a 'regular' story also that is not intended for publishing#also kinda makes me think about h*ikyuu#i kinda do feel the timeskip and the ending were a bit rushed#but like. if it was me. i would have rushed it too lmao#after so many years of working on one thing and one thing only i would have been so done. just so done#and h*ikyuu ending to me wasnt even bad. it was good with good resolution of everything. with characters evolving and achieving their dreams#not necessarily volleyball related (like tenma)#the progress made realistic sense#but it did feel a bit rushed#anyway#fanfic and writing for yourself is great#and manga authors face way too much pressure from people dependent on them. from fans. even from society in general

Reading your tags, and as someone who is also emerging from the burnout of academia - I see exactly where you stand (because we're pretty close that way lol.) I'm so glad art is a place where you have found something fun for yourself. Seeing all your doodles make me happy. :D
Take care of yourself, learning to relax and not have a constant deadline over your head is a learned process. You'll get there. 💚
I can’t find the original post but this is how I feel ever since I graduated
Thank you, I hope the same for you as well 💛🫶🏻 I’m glad my doodles can help :)
#if the font is hard to see (which sorry btw i dont have my specs on#one is saying [we’ve got time] then the other is saying [there’s no time]#physically flinched when i found out i can start applying to earn my license next year when i was expecting it to be on September#and legit had to stepped back and went DUDE I should’ve been happy to have longer breaks instead of freaking the fuck out#….yeahhhh#gotta learn to undo 8 years of damage…#i think it doesn’t help because im older than my peers#so it feels like im already [late] by a few years#but its comforting to know im not alone to feel this way#thank you for your kind words#ask response#in the trenches#but in the trenches with blorbos

just thinking abou what it would be like if taylor swift tweeted “free palestine.” it would be pandemonium. they would talk about it on msnbc and fox news and cnn and npr. joe biden and kamala harris would have to say something about it. she wouldn’t even have to say “ceasefire” or “arms embargo” and it would be an international headline. her audience is so big they wouldn’t be able to make her disappear from public discourse like they did for greta thunberg when she started saying “actually capitalism is the problem”
she forced ticketmaster (an objective evil) to make a public apology! like trump, she has the power to singlehandedly shift the window of discourse and potentially affect policy but unlike trump she will not do it because her activism only goes as far as it will benefit her brand. she will endorse democrats and do nothing more
#but chris she donates to CHARITY 🥺#she is a literal billionaire and philanthropy is a scam#maybe ask why a few people have everything and many people have nothing#this applies to beyonce as well#i pick these two because their brands are ‘feminist revolution’ while also being billionaires#might be poking a hornet’s nest here#you can consume media and still be critical of it

I try not to make a lot of original posts on topics I don't actually have any expertise on, but I haven't seen a whole lot of posts going around that actually... explain what happened and why? Like, the actual order of events, the history, and so on. I want to reblog reference posts and explanations by people who actually know what they're talking about, but I haven't seen anything that hits the buttons I need to actually get a political situation... but I have seen some stuff on other platforms.
So here are some videos I've personally found useful in understanding Israel-Palestine, because that's the format I've found most useful in processing information of this nature:
Why Israel was Originally Attacked from RealLifeLore (explains the decades of political dynamics, internal demographic tensions, and power shifts leading up to the current conflict; notably the best I've seen at actually explaining what 'Israeli Occupation' actually means)
Israel-Hamas War: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO) (commentary on the actual current situation in terms of who's getting attacked, why, and what the international ramifications so far are)
What's Happening in Israel and Why with Nathan Thrall from Adam Conover, series Factually (a discussion with an on-the-ground journalist about what life was like on the ground for Palestinian people in the areas under Israeli control during the last few years, just up to the attacks themselves)
I'm not going to claim these are comprehensive or completely unbiased (there are a few moments where I'm not entirely sure of the bias levels myself), but for people like myself who came into all this unsure of what the actual situation even is, I think these are a solid set to build up an basic understanding from which to put together opinions on future information.
I can't tell anyone what to think about how or why any of this is happening. I can only really tell you that what's going on right now is a crime on the level of attempted genocide, and that the years leading up to that have been an absolute mess on almost all fronts.
Again, I have no expertise on this subject. I just know what kind of video essay, political commentary, and interview style makes things understandable to me, personally, and might work for others. Please be courteous and kind in the comments and tags, as I am only sharing this because I haven't seen such a resource making the rounds yet, not actually trying to sway anyone in a particular direction beyond "the mass death needs to stop."
If you know of similar, relatively unbiased* resources, feel free to share.
* By 'relatively unbaised,' I don't mean taking or not taking a side; I just mean that it doesn't try to hide some information or other in favor of pushing a narrative, doesn't try to generalize a population, or doesn't seem to be trying to use emotional gut reactions to get readers or viewers to jump past reason or compassion.
#israel#palestine#israel palestine conflict#palestine israel conflict#not fandom#politics#current events#resources#information#video essays#interviews#political commentary#I'm not even sure how to tag this#I'm not even sure I should be making this post because it's not really my place. But. IDK it feels like 'hour long video essay' etc#is a much better resource to explain things than the usual 2 minute videos I see circulating#and the 2minute videos have a purpose! But. they're not really explaining everything#I didn't know that Israeli Occupation applied to regions outside the original Sykes Picot agreement until I read an article a few weeks ago#and I didn't UNDERSTAND it until the RealLifeLore video

I'd hate to sound pretentious or smth but I was watching a vid talking about media literacy when it comes to booktok and this idea with those girlies that thinking/engaging with something critically isn't fun and the only way to have fun is to turn off your brain... I don't think VG suffers from this as much as a lot of booktok shite but in comparison to the other games it rly does feel like you're not meant to be paying attention or thinking about your actions (cough not like you get to chose any of your actions COUGH), or the implications of anything? and I'm not trying to say VG fans are stupid or smth cause I think many Want something to think about, but I feel like I've seen a lot of people have to reach very far or just straight up make shit up to engage with the game? (Other games aren't perfect but I was immersed with the games enough to stop and think about how my choice will affect xyz, that didn't happen in VG) There's nothing to chew on in VG basically 😭
it's only pretentious if you don't mean it! but yeah i think there are a lot of parallels to be drawn here - i don't know how to say this without sounding like an annoying gamer bro, but now that gaming is more accessible, it feels like aaa companies do their best to cater to the widest possible demographic. market research probably shows that the majority of people don't want to be challenged or experience negative emotions, ask someone who plays games very casually whether they'd want to experience horrible consequences for picking evil actions in a game they'd probably say "um?? no? why would i want that?" but ask someone who plays a lot of rpgs and they'll probably at least understand the importance of those choices, even if they don't pick them personally. i don't think gaming is an old enough industry to have fully pinned down market research in the same way tv has - when you look at viewing figures, the most watched shows are soap operas and family sitcoms. that doesn't mean prestige tv doesn't have its place, it just means that the majority of people don't watch tv to experience the feelings shows like interview with the vampire want you to feel lol
dav doesn't actually ask any questions of the player. you're told what's wrong and what's right and not really asked to make any moral judgements. the bad guys that you kill are barely human so you don't feel bad about cutting them down (the antaam are dehumanised while the venatori are cartoon characters), the companion quests all end nicely no matter what choice you pick, the big act 1 choice is the closest you get to a negative consequence and it still feels very safe because you don't ever feel like you've done something wrong.
and yeah, it does feel like people writing analysis of vg are TRYING to chew on it, but so much of the enjoyment seems to be about coming up with your own fanon to play in a sandbox. which is fine. that's how i enjoy dai tbf. but it's sad to see after dao and da2, especially knowing how many other games there are that let you do this. SKYRIM is more complex than dav, and that's the game i always mention when talking about power fantasy sandboxes
the booktok stuff is kind of nuanced ofc, turn-your-brain-off rubbish has been available since the beginning of time and i feel like the real reason it's becoming more popular is self-publishing and people being more open about reading it on social media. i've written shitty 19th century porn and it was no better than whatever the mafia boss 50 shades ripoff writers are doing now. buuut also i think the way it spills out into other genres, and this increasing idea that fantasy/sci-fi should be about "escapism", is really fucking over people trying to get published while writing something complicated.
#ask#anonymous#imo it also doesnt help that bioware games are kind of 'fandom-y' and there seem to be a lot of people who dont play games normally but#are fans of da / me#the booktok thing is like... i also find these people really annoying but also if you want to a beach 20 years ago#and looked at what everyone was reading then compared it to today id bet the overall quality would be the same#like shitty crime thrillers that are churned out every few months. mills & boon. horrible scifi. definitely all things that have been#around for ages#usually i dont defend booktok because im a hater before anything else but in a way i think dav is worse than that#because it's entirellly corporate#ugh i wrote my dissertation on negative emotion and gender this summer. some of it really applies to dav but idk what will#happen to my brain if i reread it to recycle arguments and write a dav essay

When my peers/students I tutor say to me "oh I only use chatgpt to make outlines" I don't know how to explain to them that outlining is also a skill that you should cultivate. Organization matters just as much as content. Like I guess I could just say that and sometimes I do but I think we live on different planets atp
#im graduating so this isnt my problem or business anymore but. i worry about the kids coming in#although I did apply for a full-time job as a writing tutor in a nearby public school system and i REALLY hope i least get an interview#if they ask about AI that's my tutoring ethos. im not here to villainize AI as a whole because#1) its a broad term with lots w different applications and 2) i think it might just drive kids further away#my main concern is that they learn to DO things like research organize and write because its a lifelong skill and its good for their brains#who knows where AI will go what regulations will be passed or how accessible it will be in the future. but you'll always have your mind#if i can get that point across to a few kids while they're still learning then i'll be happy
