i feel like sometimes (many times) people get realism / "if this were to happen to a real person in the real world context, then this character would experience and grapple with x, y, z" mixed up with text / what that character is actually going through in the story which is always going to be constrained by time, space, and the creator's biases and experiences
#thinking abt lucas bc if he were not written by a team of white people then yes his character would be different and have so#much more depth and he would be experiencing and going through things that the others don't#but as it stands.... he's chilling. lol.#the only time he got depth was in his book that was written by a black male author.#and tbh i don't really think it's right or fair to dog on people for saying that he's chilling bc he just.... is? like the duffers have not#touched any of the topics they could have as it pertains to being a black boy in a majority white racist small midwestern town#and the one time they did they still didn't even really touch on it fr? like somehow it wasn't abt him... even though#he was the one being attacked for being black..... and then we just never touched on that again lol#he went through all that scary ass supernatural AND real life racism shit and we don't see him struggle after#not like we see some white characters struggle#so no i don't think someone is being racist by just pointing out what's on screen. in real life shit would be mad different#but it's not real life. and what is written is so limited because this is a black character written by white people.#and tbh it applies to so much other stuff but tht jus popped into my mind like there's nothing wrong with adding to the text#but that shouldn't be confused with actually being textual..... u feel me?#and at the end he's not really chilling bc he literally almost died n had a gun pulled on him but other than that he's usually#the one chilling bc he's every other (white) character's fixer-upper. he's always the support character to help them#and advance their plots and development :/

One Sided Love Triangles: Tokyo Debunker
Link to Twisted Wonderland Post
Because I hate when people have to lose. Though I'd be way more comfortable writing a normal love triangle for tdb than twst... there's a few of these bitches who could stand to be knocked down a peg or two.
Haru vs Peekaboo- betrayal never comes from your enemies does it. Haru wants to be happy you get along with his baby, and he's really grateful for your continued help in the anomalous animal sanctuary, really. He even originally found your interactions with Peekabo really cute! He's got a bunch of videos saved on his phone and everything but he can't help but feel just a wee bit bitter. He really wants to be the one with his head in your lap getting scritches and being told how cute he is. Something he'd never say to your face but whines about at the bar enough for Romeo to record and send to you. "For free?" Yeah for free he's had enough of this shit please come get your man MC.
Kaito vs Luca- this one is cannon to a degree I think... Kaito is deeply insecure about how much more confident Luca is around MC compared to him and how the girls on campus seem to like him more. The fact that he's so painfully oblivious doesn't help, meanwhile Luca is just overjoyed that his two best friends are in such a good relationship. You're genuinely perfect for each other, why all these secrecy and making him promise not to tell the other about the nice things you say? Isn't it natural to gush about your partner???
Towa vs Ren- Towa is such a pouty baby who doesn't fully understand his feelings and Ren is just happy to have a friend who understands the concept of a log in bonus. Neither of you fully realize that Towa is attempting to flirt, or would it be closer to say woo? All you know is one minute the two of you are casually chilling and talking about horror movies or something and then *BAM* Towa's thrown some flowers at Ren and pulled you into his lap. He's happy you wiggle to get comfy with him but very upset that you keep up your conversation with Ren. Stop being a good senpai and pay attention to hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiim.
Tohma vs Leo- just hear me out. I don't think Tohma really gets jealous? He seems super secure in himself and his abilities so he doesn't have much of a reason to get whiny and silly over MC, that's your role in the relationship. And he knows, logically that this little video Leo uploaded is bait to test the security on campus but it doesn't stop him from damn near cracking his phone in half when he sees it. That's how Leo wants to play this little game? Well fine, Tohma hopes he's ready to be thoroughly humiliated. No one can flirt with another man's partner quite as well as a bitch with a monocle. Leo is totally unaware any of this for the most part, he just assumes the extra irritation he's picking up on from Tohma is because he keeps spying on him and Alan. The fact he keeps teasing MC doesn't even cross his mind, he's just doing that to irritate you.
... as a side note can you imagine how confused everyone would get if Leo and MC kept picking fights about their upcoming "divorce" when no one even thought they were ever technically together. Except for Ritsu who sits you down to seriously try to talk you in to let him being your divorce attorney and still doesn't fully get that it's a joke by the time you're done. Actually while I'm at it:
Leo vs Ritsu- where that's exactly your dynamic but Leo starts catching some genuine feelings when he tries to crack a joke about you cheating on him with your divorce attorney only to realize that makes him unironically angry. How dare you, after everything you've been through. Wasn't he he enough? You know he can't treat you like he can. And you're just like "what can't treat me wrong?" And then you have a very toxic make out session Sho has to hear both of you scream about later while he seriously considers taking up a drinking problem.
Taiga vs Haru- this game has one character named Haru (ginger, baby) and one named Haku (green, evil?) Which confuses me an unreasonable amount. I already mentioned I wanted a serious Taiga vs Haku love triangle... but Taiga vs Haru would just be silly. You have MC who loves anomalous animals and hanging out in Jabberwock and Taiga who hates emotional intimacy and his feelings for MC just as much as he hates the idea of you being with anyone else. And of all people why Harry? He thought they were friends... or cool at least even if he won't let him eat that chinchilla thing. And now he's got MC playing defense for it too, it's irritating. He already has to fight himself to remember who you are every time he sees you again and go through the annoyance of recognizing he's a bit in love and now he can't even break into the animal sanctuary without tripping over himself and paying attention to you instead. It's annoying and it's all Haru's fault for having everything he wants. (If you ask he'll say that complaint is about Peekaboo but Haru and Romeo know it's not.) Haru is just trying to get some help from a trusted friend he's so stressed out ;-;
Sho vs Jin- Sho and his excuses... he doesn't want to just invite you to hang out and he doesn't want to ask you to come help him with the food truck because you've got so much else to do. You deserve a chance to rest, and he wants to be who you come to do that with. But Jin... he'd make that so much easier if it was him wouldn't he? He's rich and connected, and you're so sweet he's sure you could thaw that frozen heart enough for him to see you as human and not a gopher. Sho knows you, the moment he started paying attention to you he saw you as a person. But he still hurt you... and Jin didn't really do that did he? Jin doesn't like Sho because he's in Vagastrom and he doesn't trust him with your safety. Sho might see a rival and a better option, but what he's really dealing with is MC's disapproving dad who can't stand that their boyfriend has a leather jacket and a motorbike. He bets he's got tattoos and an arrest record too doesn't he MC, Jin is judging you so hard.

𝐎𝐁𝐋𝐈𝐕𝐈𝐎𝐔𝐒 ─ s.h
pairing(s): steve harrington x reader
summary: four times you were oblivious to steve’s signs, and the one time you weren’t.
word count: 3805
warnings/tags: steve being a big ol' softie in love, signs being shut down, some feelings of embarrassment [ on steve's side ], eddie being oblivious and robin trying to help steve. fluff fluff fluff
𝐈. the first time you were oblivious to steve’s signs… was when steve offered you the passenger seat.
it was the middle of summer, sweltering heat along hawkin’s beach and steve had thoroughly enjoyed the day of watching you interact with the kids. his eyes delicately scanning along your sunglass-covered face as you grin and laugh alongside lucas, playing paddled tennis against robin and max by the edge of the water.
the whole time everyone was there, steve was gawking, not listening to a word anyone had to say as he tries to convince himself to do something about the unbearable crush he had on you. “you gotta do something about this,” mike interrupts, cutting off dustin mid-sentence as steve’s heads currently as high as the clouds – watching an angel.
“what do you mean, wheeler?” asks steve, not turning in his position. eddie was unfocused, tongue sticking out his mouth as he tried to effortlessly roll his cigarette, eleven watching him curiously before replying for her boyfriend, “about your crush on y/n.”
he tried to shrug it off, an ‘i don’t know what you mean’ causing the whole group to grunt in reply. everyone knew he was lying, and steve knew they knew. but his love for you came crashing one day and everything made sense to steve all of a sudden, you were the one for him.
steve got into his head quite easily, but nothing compared to when he noticed you in that way. he couldn’t imagine anyone else in that light but you, this whole idea if he was your boyfriend that he had to mentally slap himself – he wasn’t your boyfriend. because he hadn’t gained the confidence to ask you out.
but steve thought that day was different, that he was ready. robin sat down next to him while you sat next to eddie, resting your head tiredly to his shoulder, “i have a plan,” steve had whispered to his best friend.
the group wave nancy and the young teens off, watching as jonathan holds her hand and the kids all chatter, collecting their bikes to ride home from a chilled day at the beach, high off the fun of it all. steve swings the keyring of his car keys around his finger, with purpose, while walking to his car.
you and robin were a few meters behind, giggling and making fun of the way eddie previously fell in the water – hair blocking his eyes while he looked like a kicked puppy. and steve chuckles along, opening the passenger door and turning towards you, here goes nothing.
“y/n-” steve starts but is immediately cut off with a ‘humph’ as eddie jumps onto his back, hands on either of steve’s shoulders with a heavy push and loud howl of laughter upon successfully scaring steve.
“got ya, harrington! god, you should’ve looked at your face! classic!” steve could smell the smoke off his breath, watching eddie who stands in front of him now, glaring while the brunette was far too close to the front passenger seat than steve would like.
you and robin had stopped talking, now watching the interaction unfold with contained grins. “can i sit here or not?” asks eddie, oblivious to the fact that steve was sweating to ask you. unlike everyone else had shared knowing glances the whole day, eddie munson was the complete opposite.
steve stares over at you, ignoring robin’s widely amused eyes and raised eyebrows waiting on her best friend to answer and cover his tracks. but he just sighs, turning back to eddie and nodding defeatedly, “yeah fine, move it.”
“well, thank you for opening the door for me princess, keep doing stuff like this i might get the wrong idea,” steve was unsure how eddie couldn’t see the steam across steve’s face, nearby missing eddie’s clunky foot while slamming the door shut.
once getting in the car, robin leans over to slap the back of eddie’s head, having ruined steve’s plan. while it wasn’t full proof or obvious, robin still felt for steve. the boy has his head against the steering wheel, contemplating his decisions while eddie curses at robin.
“are you okay?” you ask steve in the oh-so-sweet voice you have, the very one he fell in love with and steve sits up, staring at the beach from his parking space, “don’t you just hate it that there’s not an extra seat up here?” asks steve.
eddie pulls a face at steve while robin only shakes her head knowingly at the stream of tries, while you reply, “i mean yeah? they used to have an extra seat in some cars last decade but i’m not sure it was safe, steve.” and steve can only blush while starting his car.
before steve can ask if you’re okay to be dropped off last, in his final attempt, eddie – now the vein of steve’s life – perks up in the seat that was supposed to be yours, “harrington! could you drop me last? i need to stop off at the record place, the new mötley crüe record is finally out.”
steve refrains slamming his head against the steering wheel once more to save an upcoming concussion.
𝐈𝐈. the second time you were oblivious to steve’s signs… was when he asked you to the movies.
one of the hundreds of reasons steve loved you was the fact you worked in a bakery. an added bonus that it was across the street from family video where he worked. it meant you’d spend your lunch break bringing over spare pastries and heavenly good hot chocolate for him and robin.
it was the best part of steve’s shifts, spent behind counter while robin stocked. or vice versa. it was a boring job, but pays well for working with his best friend. so, robin sits on the dirty hard floor by the comedy section, marking off and updating the comedies of the month while steve doodles on the company notebook, not a customer in sight for the monday afternoon.
a large black inked line covers the page when steve looks up, his hand losing itself when he catches the sight of you – paper bag in one hand, a tray of hot drinks in the other, and a hop in your step. steve swoons utterly and entirely, the smile on your face while opening the shop door enough to make steve harrington’s knees weak and heart thumping in his chest.
“y/n,” he whispers, quietly and pathetically when the bell chimes, the door closing behind you. robin’s head peaks from the side of the aisle, waving at you from her spot, “hey y/n, how’s your day been?”
you wave back at her, before your eyes quickly find steve’s once more – shy grins as you walk to the counter he sits at – placing the paper bag filled with pastries upon it. you were so sweet, how did steve find someone so sweet? how could he not love someone so very sweet?
his inner thoughts cut off, “good! mr. barclay came in today, gave me a new movie recommendation.” you are referring to the sweet old man who comes into the bakery most days, a regular customer who used to shop and read the newspaper with his wife. until one day, it was just him there forward.
“oh yeah? something we’ll have here?” steve asks you, from his spot, eyes simply gleaming. you start unpacking the bakery food while replying, “no, it’s just came into the cinema! so i’ll need to go see it sometime, it sounds really good!”
steve immediately notices his pastry you pick out for him each time, you know him too well. a chocolate croissant and blueberry muffins to pair with. “robin, i brought you both food!” you pipe up, trying to look back to the light brunette who’s lost in the length of movies.
“i’ll be right there!” robin speaks from her spot, hoping steve catches on to her absence.
perfect! steve thinks, now’s my chance!
“say… do you need some company? i’d be happy to go see the movie with you, we could go tonight?” steve tries to sound cool, like most of his player high-school years aren’t completely out the window and he’s embarrassed at how little he’s dated in years after nancy freaking wheeler.
your eyes shine at his, sliding the cup of chocolate towards him as well as the warm pastries you heated up especially for them and steve’s nervous for you to reply.
“i’d love that, stevie!” he huffs a sigh of relief upon your confirmation, it was a date! he was going to take you on a date to the movies tonight, steve’s mind swings with possibility during a beat of silence. what he’d wear, what he’d bring you, snacks he’d buy you both, holding your hand, walking you to your front door.
it doesn’t last too long, as robin stands from her spot, dusting off her brown plaid trousers from the dark dust and you turn to her, “are you free tonight, robs? i should ask eddie and nancy too! i would ask the kids, but it sounded too cheesy for the kids taste? i could phone dustin and see if they would.”
steve’s heart plummets, and robin notices too quickly as she paces towards them, before she could claim she’s not free in order to score steve time with you alone, you’re leaning over steve to grip their work phone and dial the kid’s number.
picking up the chocolate croissant, steve doesn’t even care if there’s a few dotted marks of chocolate around his top lip – sadly eating his food while watching you enthuse of steve’s plan. robin pats his shoulder, sipping her own chocolate drink with sympathy written across her face.
at least steve would still get to spend time with you, even if it wasn’t alone, on what he could’ve made a date.
another time, steve thinks.
𝐈𝐈𝐈. the third time you were oblivious to steve’s signs… was when he offered you his jacket.
a night with everyone had been spent outside eddie’s trailer, or as steve was now calling him – eddie ‘the ruiner’ munson ever since he wedged himself in the seat between you and steve on the cinema night. claiming that he wanted to sit next to you, because you both liked salted popcorn unlike steve’s ‘horrific’ comment on his preference of sweet popcorn.
as the night went on and the sky went a pitch black, despite the summer season the air was cold and breezy throughout hawkin’s. everyone sat in chairs around the fire, steve lucky enough to actually be sat next to you and not listening to munson’s loud chewing.
poor eddie, robin would say again, if she knew what steve was thinking. the guy never did anything wrong, just got in the way of steve’s advances towards you. and sure, maybe they weren’t that obvious, maybe they were stupid ways to show his interest rather than outwardly admitting his feelings and ensuring that when he’s asking you out that it’s a date for just you and him.
not the entirety of his friend group.
you had shivered beneath your sweatshirt, not enough to keep the cold at bay. steve turns away from watching lucas and dustin dummy fight, loud howling laughter overcutting the rock music playing from eddie’s record player in his bedroom – open window allowing the music to travel.
you were beyond beautiful to him. the whole night he had listened to each of the stories you told holding such interest, and even when someone else was telling a story – steve would watch you. your expressions and reactions much more swooning than any story about mike accidentally stealing a bag of candy last week without knowing.
to everyone but you, it was beyond obvious. steve was head over heels for you, and eddie had even played the song ‘head over heels’ by tears for fears to poke fun but the joke backfired on the fact that he owned a tears for fears record.
you were listening to robin and nancy converse, sinking into your seat comfortably while trying to undercut how cold you were that you didn’t notice steve staring once more. watching as you rub your sweatshirt-covered arms for some heat or close your eyes tiredly every so often.
“do you want my jacket?” he leaned over to whisper to you, your dull and achy eyes opening to turn to your best friend – who’s breath is fanning your face, sending an ounce of warmth across you.
“what?” you ask him, a bit out of it and confused at how intense steve stares at you, shivers running across your body you’re not sure if it’s the effects of the temperature or of steve. he chuckles, warmly and kindly, “you’re freezing, i can tell. do you want to wear my jacket?”
you furrow your eyebrows, “but what about you?” you asked, everyone tuning into the conversation with knowing glances and expectant smirks. mike kicking steve’s foot teasingly from his other side, steve kicking him right back.
“i’m fine don’t worry about me, stevie. want to make sure you’re warm too,” you reply and steve wants to crawl into a hole and scream at how unaware you are, or at how stupid he’s being in sending shitty signs.
steve starts to shuffle his jacket off his shoulders, assuring you, “i have a sweater on, trust me, i’ll be fine. here, you can borrow it.” he extends his offer, bomber jacket in his hand and lifted towards you and you stare longingly at the jacket before back up at steve, worried, “no, steve. it’s okay, i swear.”
he’s defeated once again, he doesn’t want to make you uncomfortable by continuously asking but steve’s unsure how to make his love known when they’re not small loving gestures like this – trying to keep you warm on a cold hawkin’s night.
“i’m freezing over here, stevie,” max cuts in, teasing him while the other kids snicker beside her. steve tears his glance from you and to the redhead, wearing a large smirk and gleaming eyes that steve would complain about later.
“shut it, mayfield.”
but steve chucks the jacket towards max, ignoring the hushed giggles and sympathetic stares as he tries to think about how he could escape this situation, and how he’d go about it next time – maybe when he isn’t in the same space as all his friends but a moment he catches you alone.
he’s willing to try again.
𝐈𝐕. the fourth time you were oblivious to steve’s signs… was when he was blatantly obvious.
“you think it would be weird if you became more than friends with your best friend?” steve had asked into the quiet room, allowing you to easily hear from under his arm. a movie night was in order when robin was out of town, steve had spent lunch with you alone and mustered up the courage to a ‘totally casual not at all terrifying’ movie night where he could try to show you he loved you again.
he immediately regrets his words, way to be subtle harrington, steve thought. he fears he came across too forward and might scare you off from the idea of dating steve harrington, your best friend.
‘some kind of wonderful’ plays on his living-room television, a new friends to lovers movie that steve purposely picked out the romcom section in tune for tonight. he was a little worried, incase you felt overwhelmed by it all and it might affect your friendship that steve was desperate to make something more.
you take another handful of the bowl of salted popcorn sitting atop steve’s lap, and steve looks down to you when you begin to reply, your eyebrows are furrowed but you look far from offended or scared by his comment, “you’re my best friend, steve?”
both of you knew he was, and had been for the past few years of previously fighting inter-dimensional monsters in order to save hawkin’s and their own lives. it was hard not to be when steve was one to protect you from danger, or when you cleaned him up every time he was knocked around pretty bad.
you were both there for each other, not knowing whether it was friendly or something more.
“i wouldn’t find it weird,” steve’s blatant in his reply, you could probably hear his thumping heart, his head feels light-headed from his comment as he swoons and debates over what you might respond. god, he hoped you understood what he was getting at.
your eyebrows relax, eyes still scanning the artificial screen before humming, leaning back into steve’s side. your arms tighten him in a squeeze around his waist and follow the plot of the movie, head against his chest.
you hummed. that’s it. not a thought into what he just said as you focus on the movie ahead, he knew it wasn’t intentional of you and gets defeated once more – if he’s blatantly obvious what more could he do?
steve’s head lobs against the back of his couch, out of your eyeline while he holds in a groan. shot down once again. steve wasn’t sure how much longer he could take this. the white ceiling posing as much more interesting than the tv screen as the pair of friends finally get together, steve was far too jealous of the characters to look.
he was willing to try one more time in an attempt to make a move.
𝐕. the one time you were not oblivious to steve’s signs… was when he wasn’t trying.
steve had nearly given up on trying. his next option was to tell you he loved you and that’s that. if you reciprocated then that was amazing, but steve feared for his found friendship with you – he wasn’t sure he was willing to risk that.
you were aware of steve’s closing ‘move’. his all-time move had been discussions around girls at school, you overheard during gym – watching as steve excels at track performance – as girls whisper to one another ‘steve did his move last night, can you believe it?’
you’d also heard steve tell his friends, he’d told robin of it before while you were around – steve thinking you were listening to nancy’s discussion. or when he had advised eddie of his move when eddie scored a date, that it ‘never failed’ as his closing date routine.
so when steve walked you to your door after dropping you off from a night at his, the last stop after eleven’s, you were unaware that steve was contemplating whether to tell you he loved you or not.
it was running around steve’s head, this could be the moment that made or broke your relationship with him. depending on how you felt. steve was too in his head, debating with his inner thoughts.
you unlocked the door before turning to steve, either of you facing one another and you could tell steve’s head was elsewhere. “steve,” you assure, breaking him from his reverie – his eyes go wide and glance at you when you continue, “thank you for tonight.”
all thoughts leave his head, “oh, yeah-yeah, of course. thank you for coming, y/n.” before you knew it, steve’s arm was stretched beside you, his hand landed on the wall behind you. almost closing you in, an attempt to continue the conversation.
however, before steve can start, you’re gasping loudly. the sight of steve’s arm beside you and his eyes staring down at yours making your head feel woozy and overwhelmed, “steve!” you gasp again.
your best friend’s eyebrows are furrowed, utterly confused by your reaction when he hadn’t even said anything. “what’s wrong?” he asks, lips parted in an attempt to form more words, however, all more sentences fade him when he watches how shocked you are.
“your move!”
steve’s head lobs forward, ushering you to continue as a feeling quite similar to mortified seeps through his veins. “that’s what you do on the girls you date! the move! why are you doing that?” you ask him, he could tell you were embarrassed yourself – feet shuffling as you awaited his answer.
steve’s whole face feels warm and he’s sure despite the dark night – you could see the entirety of his red face as embarrassment settles into the pit of his stomach.
“that’s what you noticed? you noticed this lame move?” steve’s loud and amused by the fact before admitting his love for you – you notice the uncool move he used to pull on dates. not the offer of his passenger seat all the way to him blatantly stating he wouldn’t mind being more than friends.
he never expected to pull that move, you meant more to him than the lame end-of-date attempt he used to try on girls he liked. because it was you, and you were much more to him.
steve was unequivocally in love with you, and he hadn’t been so in love before. so why would he try his odd hand pose in order to scoop you up and swoon you when he could offer a jacket or blatantly ask you out instead.
“what do you mean?” you ask steve, unsure of what he’s getting at. as if there was more to it than his old school move. he chuckles, shuffling so his arm is back by his side, but now steve has moved a step closer to you that the brown hazel in his eyes are more apparent, shining down at you.
“honey, i’ve been try to tell you for months now how much i’m in love with you.” your mouth gapes, the corners threatening to pull upwards in a smile as you choke, “w-what?” your hand settles on his chest, stepping closer to him.
and by your reaction steve is less scared, you’re not running down the street or slamming the door on his face – only moving closer and smiling up at him. and steve only falls in love more in that moment, “you love me?”
steve eyes scan your face after your question, and you watch as they do, so delicate and sweet like the steve you have always known but now here he is, confessing that he loves you and it’s all tying together and the possibilities seem endless all of a sudden.
“aw, c’mere already,” steve states, breaking the small gap between you both as a kiss settles to your lips. his hand is at the small of your back, pulling you closer to him as he bids not to let you go. your hands reach up to his face, in disbelief you’re kissing steve harrington, your best friend, your touch to his cheeks brings you back to earth.
you weren’t so oblivious anymore, steve thought, glad the whole ordeal’s over as he smiles against your lips, never wanting to pull away.

Just mentioning it to cover my bases because I know some people have triggers about any mention of the body. ❤
~
“Wow.” Dustin whispered as he pushed open the heavy door to the AV Room of Hawkins High. The door itself was sparsely decorated with fake spider webs and some plastic creepy crawlies that had been stuck crudely around the edging.
He hadn’t been expecting much based on the exterior appearance of the room that housed all the Drama Club’s props as well as the small table that the Hellfire Club used to play DnD.
There were two entrances to the room but the other was hidden in the back just behind the large curtain on the wall and was barely used. Dustin couldn’t help but wonder absently if Eddie had put more effort into decorating the other door since he had not prepared for the effort put into the interior based on the outside.
He supposed that was why you’re not supposed to judge a book by its cover.
Inside the room was dark and lit up only by the usual candles and lamps Eddie set out for ambiance during their campaigns. But this time there was black tulle draped from the ceiling in random patterns. The fake spiderwebs weaved between them. Realistic looking bats and spiders hung throughout and there were jack-o-lanterns of alternating sizes in nearly every place that was big enough to house one.
The candles were abundant. Many more than usual and placed around on the floor as well as on shelves and in holders. Some of the Drama Club’s props that were usually hidden behind the large curtain had been repurposed to give the room a spooky edge and some had even been downright altered to fit the theme.
There was a giant cardboard windmill that some of them recognized from the 1983 School play. Eddie had pulled it out and seemed to have downright destroyed it with splatters of what appeared to be blood and other mangled remains that hung from the blades.
“Are those sausages?” Lucas whispered to the other guys, pointing towards the ‘entrails’ hanging from one of the fins.
Eddie had really gone all out for this one shot campaign they were playing on Halloween night.
His throne was adorned in warm toned fairy lights that, while not very spooky, did give it a chilling edge that they were sure would make him look even more menacing when illuminated from behind.
There was a rusted 1880s style stroller sitting behind the throne near the windmill. A headless doll hanging from the handles and another with a head- or, maybe just the head of the other.. Tucked tight into a blanket that was covered in Halloween themed items.
“When did he even have time to do all this?” Lucas asked as the Club sans Eddie followed behind Dustin into the seemingly empty room.
“When he was supposed to be graduating.” Gareth answered from the corner of his mouth, making Jeff snicker.
The clearing of someone’s throat caught their attention. Blood running cold as Eddie stepped out from behind one of the props with a tired look on his painted pale face.
“Thunny.” He said, simply. Plastic glow in the dark vampire fangs impeding his speech.
“Altho, rude.” He added, frowning at his words and taking the teeth out of his mouth. “That is not gonna’ work.” He mumbled to himself. Fishing around for the pocket in the red and black cape he was wearing and shoving them inside it.
“It looks amazing in here!” Mike enthused as Eddie held back a smile. The fake blood dripping from the corner of his mouth moving into his marionette lines as he kept his glee at bay.
Vampire Lord’s did not smile when they received a compliment.
He didn’t think.
He would need to check.
“Yeah.” Jeff agreed with a laugh. “I’ve gotta be honest I wasn’t even sure you’d show up tonight with how forgetful you’ve been.”
A murmur of agreement rolled through the boys in front of him as Eddie scoffed at the statement. He may have almost fallen asleep driving to school this morning but there was no way in hell he could forget a campaign.
“Come on in and sit down.” He said as unnervingly as he could muster after the stab at his memory.
He reminded the boys of the narrator at the beginning of a Haunted House carnival ride that dared them to try not to be scared.
The difference was that they probably actually should and would be scared of Eddie.
Sitting on the throne in front of the table often flicked a switch in his brain that turned him into an unhinged maniac.
They knew they were in for some sort of Halloween themed mischief tonight. They just hoped there were no tricks to ruin their treat.
The boys did as they were told. Taking their places around the table and setting up their belongings as Eddie sauntered towards his seat and flopped down on it. Waiting with fingers intertwined atop the table for them to be ready for him to begin.
The candles flickered in the quiet room, highlighting the dark circles under Eddie’s bleary eyes.
Anyone that didn’t know him would think he had painted them there as part of the costume and not just an everyday occurrence of late.
Once everyone was settled and the club was staring up at him with eager faces, Eddie stood. Tired body creaking as he leaned behind his chair to press play on the tape player he had hidden there. Soft, spooky music filled the room. Not very loud as Eddie still wanted them to be able to hear him talk.
“Wait…” Lucas said after a long moment of silence so they could listen to the ambient sound. “In the background… Is that… Carnival music?” He asked, looking up at Eddie with a puzzled expression.
The older man raised his brows in acknowledgement. Smiling proudly this time as he bowed to them all. Again putting on his best, most unnerving voice as he said:
“Welcome, to the Haunted House.”
~~
Eddie’s campaign was based around the guys being stuck inside the Haunted House Carnival ride. A ride that came alive with actual ghosts, ghouls and skeletons that needed to be fought off as they worked out how to escape it.
It was essentially a mini escape room without physical props to keep track of. It was unlike any campaign they had ever played before and it was clear Eddie had put a lot of thought and work into how it would turn out.
He had planned it to be short. Only spanning the one session that lasted about three hours absolute max. That was if they made a dumb move or got stuck somewhere. Otherwise they could probably be out of there in one.
He had alluded early on to the presence of someone that could help them through the puzzles. They figured they just had to say the right words or stumble into the right room to find them.
In true Hellfire Club fashion, it hadn’t taken long for things to go from zero to one hundred. Mike had made a call that nearly killed Gareth and Jeff, who was usually pretty quiet and mild mannered, had turned on him.
Eddie watched in delight as the club bickered amongst themselves about how they should have gone about the obstacle Eddie had placed in front of them.
He of course knew exactly how they should go about it but he was keeping that little tidbit of information to himself unless someone rolled a 20.
“Okay! Okay!” Dustin shouted suddenly, holding out both his hands in a ‘stop’ like motion as he tried to quell the argument between Mike, Jeff and Gareth.
Lucas sat quietly on the sidelines ignoring the chaos as he wrote something down on his character sheet.
“It doesn’t matter! Okay?” Dustin shouted when all attention was on him. “Look it’s like a foot tall, What if we just step over–”
A shrill sound rang out from somewhere behind Eddie, cutting Dustin off mid-sentence.
The sudden sharp cry startled the group. They jumped in unison. Looking between one another and then to Eddie as they waited for the reveal.
What trickery had he rigged up to breathe even more life into the campaign?
“Oh! Eddie said excitedly, leaning back to stop the tape player from making the eerie sounds. “Looks like our guest has arrived.” He explained cryptically, pushing away from the table. The feet of his throne scraping against the floor was barely heard above the repetitive sound growing louder and more frequent.
Eddie moved around behind his chair quickly standing in front of the rusted stroller and dipping his hands inside.
The guys watched in confusion. Waiting for Eddie to pull out another tape player or a walkie talkie and turn it off to stop the shrieking sound. But instead he ducked forwards pulling the pile of fuzzy halloween themed blankets to his chest and shushing it softly.
“Were we too loud?” He murmured to the blankets. Looking down at the pile in his arms with eyes that sparkled in the candlelight.
The whining cry from the baby in the blankets was calmed by the comfort of a firm chest. She cooed quietly as Eddie swayed on the spot and tapped her back with his palm. The soft thump of the repetitive motion reassuring her that she was safe as large brown eyes that matched his own fluttered closed again in his arms.
Eddie looked up at the group in front of him. Ready to apologize for the interruption and make his announcement about the game but he was taken aback by the shock on everyone’s faces.
Furrowed brows, wide eyes and mouths hanging open around the table as they all stared at him with questions on their lips. Stunned into silence, no one moved until Jeff finally cracked.
“What…” He asked bluntly, pausing for emphasis. “Is that?”
He was pointing towards the blankets in Eddie’s arms. Being ever so gently rocked up and down by strong hands that were made for shredding on an electric guitar or rolling dice, not holding a doll.
“Who? Is that?” Dustin corrected when Eddie narrowed his eyes at the question.
“This…” Eddie said, also pausing for emphasis. “Is your way out of this ride!” He said as excitedly as he could. Somewhat affronted by the rude phrasing of the question. “It’s your lucky night. You’ve been visited by The Angel of Good Fortune.”
The silence in the room was loud as Eddie looked over them all with eagerness, waiting for someone to ask another question so he could introduce his surprise NPC in the way he had planned.
His face fell as no one made a move. The silence stretched almost to the point of being uncomfortable until Eddie spoke again.
“It’s Daisy.” He said bluntly. “She’s the angel.” He explained as if that answered anyone’s questions and didn’t raise at least six more. “Do you guys want to hear what she has to bestow on you or not?” He chuckled, shaking his head as he circled back around the throne and plonked himself down.
If it wasn’t for the humming of the stage lights above his head or the gentle crackle of the candles by his side, he swore he would be able to hear the crickets outside chirping.
“Okay…” He said simply. A sudden rush of foolishness knocking down his resolve when no one spoke. “Well I guess no one wants any fortune then.” He said bitterly.
This was not going at all how he had planned it.
He shrugged weakly as he scooted forward to the edge of the seat and looked over his notes before speaking again.
They just continued on he supposed. He had been planning to give them all special abilities that helped them throughout the rest of the house. But if they were going to be dicks about him bringing the baby then they could get by without them.
He didn’t really want to be there anymore right that second anyway…
“Right so…” He sighed. “Dustin, you were about to try and step over the obstacle. You can’t do that by the way–”
“No.” Gareth said simply, holding his hand up in front of him as Dustin had done to him earlier. Eddie’s head snapping up at the declaration.
“No, we’re not doing this.” He laughed, pointing an accusatory finger at Eddie now. “Come on Man. Put the doll down.”
Eddie frowned at him as the rest of the group murmured in agreement. Nodding their heads and putting forth the same sentiments of Eddie’s Halloween prank being over now. He’d had them at first but going back to the game like nothing had happened with a random ‘baby’ in his arms and expecting them not to ask questions was too far.
“Not doing what?” Eddie snapped, frustrated at the insinuation that he was the problem when it was them and their weird reactions to his surprise.
The baby in his grasp stirred at the words. Loud and sharp not far from her little ears. She could feel his frustration and wanted to join in on the complaining.
Her eyes were open again now, bottom lip trembling as Eddie realized his mistake and quickly tried to shush her. But he’d already fucked up. New babies rarely went back to sleep a second time. Especially when they could feel that their parents were frazzled.
“Ah shi–” He behan. “Shoot.” He corrected,, looking down at her with a sad pout as she began to cry again. “You’re hungry aren’t you?” He asked rhetorically.
Yeah, this was not going to plan in the slightest. It would be his luck that after the failure of his reveal, he couldn’t get her to calm down for him due to her being able to sense his agitated state.
She shouldn’t be hungry again so soon. If he just took a breath, he should be able to stop her getting too worked up.
He shuffled her into the tight grip of one arm as he fished in his cape pocket with his other hand. Producing a pink pacifier and holding it up in front of her. “May I interest you in a pacifier?” He asked politely, pressing it against her wailing lips and waiting with baited breath to see if she took it.
She did, briefly. Spitting the dummy quite literally as she took it from him for a quick second before hucking it out and sending it shooting across the table. The heads of all the players following its journey as it bounced once on the game board before rolling the rest of the way to land in front of Grant who stared at it as if it was diseased.
“Nat 20.” Eddie laughed hollowly as the rest of the table slowly turned back to him at the same time and stared with matching horrified expressions.
“How did you do that?” Grant asked softly, barely heard over the baby's cries as Eddie pushed himself up again and began to pace back and forth in front of the throne in an effort to calm the little one.
“Do what?” He asked again over the cries, this time just exasperated at his lack of understanding their line of questioning.
“Throw the pacifier like that without moving your hands?” Gareth asked as if it was obvious.
Eddie balked at the statement.
“Are you daft?” He asked after a moment of stunned silence that Daisy gladly filled. “She spat it out, you saw her.”
“She’s not real!” Gareth argued, slamming his hands down on the table and pushing himself to stand, the rest of the members following suit.
“Yes she is.” Eddie defended weakly, stopping in place and rearranging the blankets in his arms so the guys could see the baby's face. “See.”
The six men in front of him took a step closer.
The baby in the blankets blinked at them all from her place in Dad’s arms. Her cries dying down as curiosity became her main focus. The growling in her little tummy became a background sensation for a long few seconds as she looked over at them all with wide eyes that matched Eddie’s.
She probably wasn’t actually looking at them. Baby’s couldn’t see very far in front of them when they were so young. But that was what made contrasting colors interesting. Eddie guessed she was gaping at the fuzzy bright orange spots she could see throughout in the darkness of the room. The candles he had lit to add to the ambiance, calming her as the lights flickered with all the movement in the room.
“What the fuck?” Mike asked candidly. Saying what they were all thinking as they watched the actual infant child Eddie was holding, look around the room and move her little arms around in a way that Eddie couldn’t fake even if he wanted to.
Eddie squinted at them all, eyes dark as the realization began to dawn on him that they all had no idea who Daisy was or what she was doing there with him.
“Do you guys like…” Eddie trailed off as he shook his head at them. Lips pressed together hard as he shrugged, baby moving up and down with the motion as he spoke again. “Listen, when I speak?” He asked slowly, tilting his head in a way that was probably meant to look condescending but really just made him look like a sad puppy.
The silence was enough of an answer for him. Not even Daisy daring to make a sound as her janky little movements had her staring back up at Eddie. The sound of Dad’s voice taking her away from her pretty lights and reminding her that she was hungry and he was not delivering.
Her little lips shook again as Eddie frowned at his friends. Her expression unknowingly mimicked his as she began to cry again and Eddie scowled at the six people in front of him.
The best friends he had in the entire world.
That apparently didn’t know his daughter’s name or that she even existed despite him rambling about nothing else for the last two weeks straight.
It made him want to join Daisy in her howling.
“What the fuck?” Eddie asked suddenly, as brazen as Mike had a few seconds earlier. Looking between them all with a mixture of hurt and disgust on his face as they all stood quietly and mentally prepared themselves for the scolding of a lifetime.
But instead Eddie’s voice was small. Barely heard over the wailing of the baby in his arms.
“I thought you were my friends.” He said simply, embarrassment welling in his chest at the way it had come out. The vulnerability he had shown with that one sentence that perfectly encapsulated how he felt about it all without having to actually say any of what he was feeling.
“Okay!” A voice rang out from somewhere in the corner of the room. Startling them all, including Daisy who went suspiciously quiet at the sound. Everyone turned at once, surprised to see…
You.
Having just jumped out of your hiding place behind the windmill.
“I can’t do it anymore!” You shouted. Holding out your arms and making grabby hands towards Eddie. “Give her to me!” You instructed as Eddie stared at you as if you’d grown two heads, trying to figure out where you’d even come from or what you were doing there.
“What…” He asked weakly as you strode towards him and wrapped deft fingers around your little one.
He let you take her. His arms falling limp by his side when they were empty.
“Where did you–” He began, cutting himself off. “How did you–” He started again. “WHY did you?” He decided on, tone changing from shocked to frustrated. “Were you spying on me?” He asked incredulously. Sounding a little more wounded than he intended as you turned away from all the prying eyes in the room and pulled down the neck of your shirt.
Intending to give Daisy what she needed to restore the beginnings of peace in the room.
“No!” You clarified, flicking your head towards him as you tried to get Daisy to latch and catching the hurt as if flashed through his eyes. “Well, not intentionally.” You added softly.
“You were!” Eddie gasped. “You don’t trust me?” He asked. Ignoring the rest of the people in the room as his one track mind got stuck on your appearance and he momentarily forgot he was in the middle of an argument with some of the worst friends in the world.
“No, that’s not it.” You argued back, not looking at him as you spoke while you were trying to encourage the baby to work with you.
“You don’t think I can take care of our daughter on my own?” He asked, not waiting for your answer before he continued. “You too?” He asked, nodding at you and then his friends as he remembered they were there.
He crossed his arms over his chest. “What the hell is wrong with everyone tonight?” He shouted as your guilty eyes turned back to him.
“I just wanted to see you surprise them...” You explained softly. “But… It wasn’t going to plan…” You winced, baring your teeth in a cringe as you used Daisy’s blanket to cover your modesty.
Yeah, you were right. None of this was going to plan…
All of the guys had met you before. Most of them remembered you from your senior year. Even the Freshman had met you once or twice since joining Hellfire. Had hung out with you and Eddie together over the small holiday break between the first semesters of the year.
And look, okay… Maybe you weren’t around as often as you used to be and maybe Eddie didn’t talk about you as often as he wanted to. But you both knew it wasn’t for lack of wanting to brag about the fact that he was yours.
It was his circumstances he didn’t want to think about. The fact that he had a girlfriend in College only served to remind him and everyone else of the fact that he had failed to graduate twice now and was on a fast track to his third failure.
It reminded them all that he was College age and should be running around on campus with you instead of in the schoolyard with them.
Except you weren’t at College now. You were at home or… Supposed to be. Tired, cranky and hormonal. Six weeks postpartum and ready to lose your mind when Eddie had said he was planning on going out on Halloween night.
Which meant you would spend your favorite holiday sitting at home alone with the baby.
Eddie had felt bad when you’d pointed that out and offered to take her with him. The guys hadn’t met her yet anyway and he figured the creepy old stroller in the AV Room was probably safe enough to let her sleep in until she woke up hungry and he could introduce her to everyone while he fed her dinner.
However he obviously hadn’t anticipated his friend’s not knowing what the hell he was talking about.
He had told them you were pregnant and how excited he was for Daisy’s arrival. He’d had a month off school when she was born. Only returning 2 weeks earlier and when asked about his time off he had babbled nonstop for an entire lunch break about how perfect his little one was, how happy she made him and how tired you both were.
Because damn were you both tired.
You weren’t sure where Eddie had pulled this campaign from or the energy he had used to decorate the place. You were worried most mornings that he would crash on the way to school. The way he was barely able to keep his eyes open, falling asleep at the kitchen counter and nearly drowning in his cereal.
You were pretty sure he hadn’t learnt a thing at school since he’d been back. He was so exhausted, he could barely hold a conversation.
Not that you could talk. You were just as bad and right now, you weren’t even supposed to be there. You were supposed to be home, sleeping.
As far as Eddie was aware, you were. You had left the AV room over an hour earlier. Saying goodbye to him and your Bub.
You did intend to go home and sleep through all the trick-or-treating door knockers.
But it was the first time you had been away from Daisy since she had been born and you hadn’t anticipated the overwhelming feeling of guilt that had washed over you as you’d closed the door with her on the other side of it.
You would have gone back in immediately if Eddie wasn’t so insistent that 1. He let you rest and 2. He was going to introduce Daisy to the guys.
He had a plan on how to do it dramatically. You had chuckled at that. Because of course he did.
He wasn’t just going to have them walk in and be sitting there on his throne, holding a baby.
He had written her into the campaign. When they made it to the specific spot in the story where it would be perfect to introduce her or when she woke up. Whatever happened first was fine. He was going to present her to them as a surprise NPC that afforded them all special bonuses.
It was a very cute idea but it hinged pretty heavily on the ‘spooky’ atmosphere with the doll hanging from the stroller being a red herring and the guys not noticing your actual baby sleeping in the bed of it.
If you were honest, you thought the guys would still see it coming from a mile away but you hadn’t said anything. Wanting to let the sleep deprived new Dad have his small amount of fun. Even if the guys clocked her immediately and didn’t end up being surprised. It would still be a nice little moment for him.
You’d felt yucky about leaving Daisy behind as you walked to the parking lot. You trusted Eddie with her whole-heartedly but ‘Mom guilt’ as the midwives had called it, was strong.
You had fed her to sleep just before you left and knew she would be fine for at least two hours even if she didn’t sleep the whole time. Eddie had promised that the campaign would only take around that long and if she woke up before then and desperately needed you, he would walkie and you could drive back over since you guys only lived a couple of minutes from the school.
He had a bottle of formula in the diaper bag just in case he needed it for her. But you weren’t sure if she would even take it for him. It wasn’t an issue for her to have it. You’d just never been away from her long enough before for someone else to need to feed her.
Not even Eddie.
You had made it almost all the way to the car before you’d stopped in place and stared at the cracked bitumen under your feet for a long moment. Not sure you could actually go ahead with leaving her.
You’d sighed, deciding to head back inside. Intending to sit in on Hellfire if Eddie didn’t outright postpone the start time to drive you home and put you to bed.
You were about to turn around when you heard someone call your name. The Hellfire guys had arrived sometime during your contemplation and were running towards you excitedly.
You hadn’t seen them in a really long time. Probably since you were in your first trimester of pregnancy.
You had found out you were expecting in the middle of your first year at College and you were determined to finish at least one year before the baby arrived. So trips home to see your love were rare. When you did make it back to Hawkins you were so exhausted from working overtime to get your coursework done that you just wanted to spend time at home with Eddie. Enjoying the last of your quality time together before you became a family of three.
It was nice to see the guys briefly in the parking lot of Hawkins High like old times. It cheered you up somewhat and you spent a long few minutes catching up with them.
However, it had become apparent pretty quickly into the interaction that they had no intention of congratulating you on the birth of your first child. A very strange interaction if you were honest but you kept up the friendly face as if nothing was amiss.
It wasn’t until Gareth had rolled his eyes and said:
“You know he’s telling everyone you just had a baby.”
The rest of the guys had chortled at the notion, making you frown as he continued somewhat candidly.
“So obviously that’s not true.” He said derisively, gesturing towards your body and making you bristle. You supposed the implication was that you were the same size you had been the last time they had seen you and there was no way your body could have grown and nourished a child over the last nine months and then gone back to looking the same as it did before within such a short span of time.
These assholes…
You’d thought to yourself, not replying as the men in front of you all nodded in agreement with Gareth’s statement.
Did they expect you to suddenly shape shift into a different person just because you were a Mom now?
I guess they will be surprised.
You’d concluded, smirking to yourself as you bid them a terse goodnight and watched them walk inside the building with the belief that Eddie was lying about his personal life.
Well, you certainly couldn’t go home then. It seemed like Eddie was going to be able to put on quite the show and you wanted to see how it panned out.
Afterall you figured you’d probably only just make it home before you were being called on the Walkie to come back.
You had snuck into the AV Room via the second entrance and hid behind the curtain at first. Moving closer and dipping down behind the windmill as you tried not to laugh at the sound of Eddie talking with fake fangs in his mouth.
You had slumped down on the ground and waited way longer than you had thought you would have to. Not proud of the fact that you had nodded off once or twice. Jolting awake after a particularly loud exclamation from someone at the table and hoping you hadn’t been snoring.
You guessed this was probably the typical newborn experience. Baby never sleeps more than an hour at a time except for when you, yourself could be sleeping but had chosen not to because you had been convinced she would need you again within minutes.
Just when you were starting to think you’d have to ruin Eddie’s surprise by standing up and checking that the baby was still breathing, she had begun to cry and you had done your best to shuffle out of view so Eddie didn’t see you when he moved towards the stroller to pick her up.
He was too distracted by her to notice you anyway. Thank goodness because you had not thought about the implication of hearing the baby cry and your body responding to it, ready to do its job. You had been distracted by your aching breasts and the milk leaking into your bra that Daisy could definitely smell from her place on Dad’s chest about three feet away.
There was no way he was getting her to settle now. Mistakes had been made and you knew then that it was only a matter of time until you had to reveal yourself to help Eddie out. It was just the matter of when exactly to do it so that you didn’t ruin the moment Eddie had been planning all week for.
Luckily for you, you supposed, the guys had ruined it for you. Being rude and not believing the baby was even real.
You felt bad for not correcting them in the parking lot. But you hadn’t done so on the premise that Eddie would get to have his fun reveal moment.
“Happy Halloween…” You grimaced at the guys, turning to them and taking in the shocked expressions around the table. Each boy appeared to be in a different stage of grief as their eyes roamed from you to Eddie, to the baby in your arms, back to Eddie, back to you.
“But…” One of them began, trailing off as Eddie looked between you and the guys as well. Trying to figure out what he had missed.
“Wait…” Someone else started, also trailing off as they tried to make sense of the situation.
“What the fuck is happening?” Eddie murmured under his breath, just as confused as everyone else.
So you weren’t spying… But you didn’t go home? What did you mean Happy Halloween? Were you pranking them? Was that directed at him or the guys?
A thousand questions ran through his mind at once. He opened his mouth to ask some of them and was immediately cut off by Gareth.
“You don’t look pregnant!” He shouted, again gesturing at your body and making your eyes darken dangerously as Jeff elbowed him in the ribs.
“I’m not.” You replied curtly. “I was.” You clarified, one hand tapping against the baby’s bottom to make your point. “But I’m not anymore.”
“But you didn’t…” He gasped out, winded from being elbowed. “You didn’t say that–” He tried, voice strained.
Eddie turned to you with a questioning gaze. Brows raised as he waited for an explanation.
“Didn’t say?” He asked you, specifically. “When did you even see them?”
You sighed softly, deciding to explain to the whole room and answer Eddie’s question all at once.
“Eddie wanted to surprise you.” You huffed to the group, as if that much was obvious. “I figured if I corrected you when I ran into you earlier that you would know straight away that Eddie had the baby because she wasn’t with me and the surprise would be ruined.” You said with a shrug, finally turning to Eddie. “I ran into them in the parking lot and it was obvious they didn’t realize you were telling the truth about Daisy so I let them run with it for the sake of the dramatics.” You said apologetically. “I just wanted to see how that played out before I went home.” You added, peeking down at Daisy under the blanket covering her and making sure she was alright. “But, it didn’t go as I expected.” You admitted.
“Oh.” Eddie replied quietly, following your eyes to the blanket and frowning to himself as the room fell silent once again.
He appreciated the sentiment but it hadn’t exactly helped him. Although he supposed, you were right and it probably wouldn’t have helped him keep his surprise if you’d corrected them either.
Maybe it just wasn’t meant to be.
He had been so excited about his little Halloween oneshot. But none of it had worked out anywhere near how he thought it would.
He was feeling defeated.
“I’m sure it was all a misunderstanding.” You continued loudly, interrupting his thoughts as your eyes bored into each of the men in front of you in turn. Desperately trying to get them to say something that corroborated your ‘theory’. “Because they are your friends and they do listen to you.” You added through gritted teeth when no one spoke up.
“Yeah!” Grant defended quickly, catching your drift and jumping into action.
“We are.” Gareth agreed.
“And we do!” Jeff piled on.
The freshman nodded along as well. Big smiles on their faces as Eddie scowled at them all, looking a little too sad for someone that was dressed as a vampire.
“It’s just that like…” Jeff began, looking to Gareth and Grant for back up.
“You fuck with us a lot.” Gareth finished, a murmur of agreement making its way around the table as Eddie scoffed at them derisively.
“I do not!” He argued meekly. Shrinking under the collective tired stare of the group and also your knowing gaze from by his side.
“What about when you said your Dad hatched an elaborate plan to steal drugs from his former partners and sell them to Rick for a quick buck?” Jeff asked, arms crossed over his chest.
“That happened!” Eddie justified, throwing his shoulders up as the guys all exchanged sneers.
That did happen.
You hadn’t been dating at the time but you knew about it from your place on the sidelines. You opened your mouth to defend him but didn’t get it out before another example was being thrown around.
“Well, what about when you told us that some assistant to a big music producer.” Gareth paused, waving his hands around to emphasize how silly it sounded. “Came to The Hideout and scouted Corroded Coffin before I joined and tried to take you to L.A to become a rockstar?” He laughed, turning to the guys for support and frowning at Jeff’s grimace.
“That did actually happen, I was there for that.” He interjected, one finger pointing towards the ceiling.
“See!” Eddie gestured towards him with his whole hand.
“Okay well guys come on…” Gareth continued. “He also said that Chrissy Cunningham tried to buy drugs from him the night she died.”
“She did!” Eddie exclaimed, voice higher than usual.
“And don’t forget that he’s apparently friends with Steve Harrington now.” Grant laughed heartily, the older guys erupting into laughter as the Freshman exchanged anxious looks with one another.
“That’s also true!” Eddie argued incredulously before Dustin piped up:
“Yeah, that one is actually true too.” He said, hissing through his teeth.
“It’s all true!” Eddie shouted, desperation in his tone.
“Look, the point is Eddie you lie like, all the time.” Gareth justified weakly, gesturing around the room as if any of them had actually managed to come up with a solid lie Eddie had told that hadn’t been corroborated by other person in the room. “So…” He said, dragging out the word.
“But I’m not lying!” Eddie argued, bordering on whiny. “All of those things happened to me! Including this!” He added, thrusting his hand towards you and the baby.
Silence fell on the room once more. The slap of Eddie’s hand falling back against his thigh seemed to echo in the small space as he shook his head at them all. Turning to you with pleading eyes as if to ask you to convince them he was telling the truth.
You felt bad for him, smiling apologetically as you slowly slipped down to sit in his throne. Your tired legs giving out as you waited for someone else to say something. You weren’t sure why they still seemed to look unconvinced or what you could even say to persuade them.
You were literally holding the baby in front of them. All the evidence they should need to understand.
A sniff caught your attention and you looked back up to Eddie quickly, horrified at the thought that he had potentially begun to cry. But to your surprise he was now looking back at the guys, a puzzled expression on his face as the sound happened again.
Your own head turned to look them over, watching in confusion as everyone stayed so defiantly staunch that the quiver of Dustin’s lips and the small change in his breathing was as obvious as if he had just burst out into laughter immediately.
Mike’s elbow connected with his side gently. A motion that was meant to be discreet but again in the stillness of the room seemed as blatant as if he had just tackled the other boy to the ground.
“I can’t keep it in…” Dustin ground out, his eyes wide as the other guys all began to huff and sigh. The barely contained laughter of the kid that was decidedly, Eddie’s best friend, was infectious. Lucas sniffed as well and snowballed Grant into a snort that triggered Jeff.
Slowly one by one the group began to laugh. Soft murmurs of mirth at first that quickly turned into the hearty sound of chortling as they all nodded at one another knowingly, as if making a silent decision before Dustin turned to the head of the table.
“Trick or treat!” He shouted, throwing his hands up and leading the rest of the club into doing the same.
“Trick or Treat!” They mimicked. Shouting in synchrony and throwing their hands up in unison as if welcoming the guest of honor into a surprise party.
Eddie balked at the exclamation, not expecting it and certainly not understanding it at all.
Was he the guest of honor?
“What?” He asked tiredly, shaking his head and slumping his shoulders. He had no idea what was going on. Exhausted with the shifting emotions in the room as the guys all seemed to delight in the notion that he still didn’t understand.
“The ultimate trick!” Gareth clarified, pointing at the DM with a brave finger as Jeff and Gareth clapped each other on the back.
“You fell for it.” Mike laughed, seeming genuinely surprised.
“Damn, I guess having a baby really does mess with your brain.” Dustin theorized as you and Eddie shared a look of bewilderment.
“Wait…” It was Eddie’s turn to trail off. “What?” He asked again, mirroring the way the guys had asked it earlier. “What’s going on? I’m so confused.” He complained, rubbing at his forehead with one hand as he tried to make sense of the situation.
“Oh damn.” Jeff laughed, wincing. “I feel kind of bad.” He mumbled as Eddie scowled at him.
“Dude…” Grant said loudly, commanding Eddie’s attention. “We were pranking you Man.” He laughed, gesturing towards you and the baby. “For Halloween?” He said slowly, dragging out the words as if Eddie was too simple to understand them.
“Of course we know who Daisy is.” Jeff laughed awkwardly. “How could we not?”
“Yeah you haven’t exactly shut up about her since you’ve been back.” Mike added, groaning as Dustin got him back for the elbow earlier.
“Yeah I didn’t think you’d fall for it.” Jeff admitted uneasily. “Honestly I thought Mama Bear over there was gonna’ murder Gareth for the comment he made outside.” He said scandalously as Gareth had the decorum to shoot you an apologetic look.
“You look amazing by the way.” He said quickly as both sets of eyes turned on him and Eddie had to stop himself from asking what the comment was unless he wanted this to become an actual haunted room.
Although he wasn’t too worried about Gareth’s ghost disrupting his sessions anymore than alive Gareth already did.
“Wait so…” Eddie said again, closing his eyes and making the group groan collectively as he desperately tried to make sense of the situation.
“Okay, this has kind of spiraled from fun into mean.” Mike interjected, looking around at the other guys and all of them nodding in agreement. “We knew you guys were tired but we didn’t realize you were that tired.” He said with a grimace.
“Yeah…” Dustin agreed as both you and Eddie stared at them all blankly, trying to wrap sleep deprived brains around the situation. “It was meant to be a really simple prank. Like opposite day or some shit.” He laughed uncomfortably. “We didn’t think you’d take us seriously, I mean we’ve seen a picture of her for Christ’s sake.”
Eddie had momentarily forgotten about the polaroid he’d taken of Daisy not long after she was born. Currently residing in his wallet after having been passed around the lunch table six times over until he finally decided she’d been given enough compliments and took it back.
“Oh.” Eddie hummed, ruminating on his first week at school and remembering, vaguely, the interaction.
He didn’t remember too much of the last six weeks in general if he was honest.
“That was mean guys.” You murmured with a frown. Trying not to be too hard on them since you were honestly just glad that they hadn’t truly believed Eddie was lying about his personal life.
You looked to Eddie. Waiting for him to say something but instead you were faced with the blank stare of a man that you were pretty sure still didn’t truly understand what was going on.
Dustin took it upon himself to take a step forward.
“We knew you were going to do something insane tonight. It wouldn’t be Halloween without you trying to pull the wool over our eyes somehow and we kind of thought you had been setting us up for a big prank for the last month so... We all agreed to just roll with whatever it was, no matter how insane we looked and prank you back.” He explained, waving open palms over his face in big exaggerated movements to show the scale of their operation.. “But now it’s sad.” He said with a nod, lips pressed together and brows raised in concern as Eddie narrowed his eyes at the other man.
The kid ignored it, placing a grounding hand on Eddie’s bicep.
“Congratulations man.” He said definitively, watching as Eddie’s brows shot up in surprise. “You’re a lucky man.” He said, nodding at you and the baby.
Eddie took in a sharp breath, turning himself away, unexpectedly overcome with emotion at the statement.
It was really all he wanted from them in the first place.
An acknowledgment of his new life and how lucky he was to be living it.
“Yep. Thanks.” He said quickly, refusing to look at them. “You know you’re supposed to let me choose if I want a trick or a treat right?” He asked, his sentence clipped with the terse edge of someone that was trying not to cry. “You can’t just yell trick or treat after tricking someone.”
“You tricked us first!” Gareth argued at the statement. Jeff’s hand landed heavy on his shoulder as Eddie whirled back around to face them suddenly. Emotions forgotten or maybe just consolidated into anger as he took offence at the blatant lie.
“It wasn’t a trick!” He gasped, scandalized. “It was a surprise!” He panted. “With treats!” He added, throwing his arm out towards the unfinished game in front of them. “The Angel of Good Fortune had gifts for you all!” He exclaimed, gesturing wildly at all of them at once as he stared incredulously at the ungrateful group before him. “No wonder the poor thing was inconsolable, you ingrates wouldn’t accept her presents.” He said pointedly, crossing his arms over his chest as you stifled a laugh at the statement.
Yes, that was why. It had nothing to do with Mommy hiding a few feet away and leaking dinner into her bra.
You didn’t say anything, letting Eddie have the win as you looked down at your little angel and realized she was finished eating already.
You shook your head at her.
The audacity to make all that fuss and only feed for a few minutes.
She obviously wasn’t hungry and should have taken the pacifier but all the yelling from the club had startled her into wanting Mom when she knew she was nearby.
Or maybe Eddie was right. You conceded privately. She was just upset that the guys didn’t accept her gifts.
You smiled at the thought of Daisy growing up to DM just like her Daddy.
No doubt she would be just as dramatic.
You shifted her in your arms as the boys argued. Covering yourself up again and removing the blanket so she could breathe easy now that she was content to lay still in your arms.
She blinked up at you with milk-drunk eyes, lids falling closed slowly as she began to drift off again. Her little lips sucked at the air and made you smile.
“And another fucking thing!” Eddie began, startled by you tugging on his cloak and jerking your head towards the baby in your arms.
“Language!” You chastised gently. As if the poor thing hadn’t been listening in on some of the most intense arguing you’d ever witnessed for the first hour of the session.
“Oh, sorry.” Eddie said quickly, turning back to the guys. “And another… Thing!” He repeated, omitting the swear, this time stage whispering as he pointed at them. “Your ass- Uh, butts, are still stuck behind that obstacle!” He whisper-shouted. “Good luck getting through them without the Good Fortune she would have afforded you.” He snipped, waving his hand towards the baby.
Silence descended on them all once again as all eyes in the room turned to look at Daisy.
“Why can’t we just step over—“ Dustin began to ask, being cut off by Gareth.
“Can’t she just give us our fortune now?” He asked with a shrug, looking between the baby in your arms and your boyfriend who looked as though he was ten seconds away from a conniption.
“No!” He snapped, exasperated. “You lost that privilege when you decided to pretend she wasn’t real.”
“Oh come on Eddie, please!” Mike pleaded, turning to you instead when his pleas fell on deaf ears. “You were as much at fault as we were!” He defended weakly. “Can’t you convince him?”
Eddie’s attention snapped to you quickly, a warning in his dark eyes as he wordlessly told you that no, you could not.
“Well…” You began, Eddie’s eye twitching at the word. “I think maybe you should let Daisy decide if she wants to give you her good fortune.” You said casually, making the teen scoff.
“But she’s a baby?” He said in a weird way that was halfway between a question and a definitive statement.
Eddie gasped suddenly, turning back to the guys with glee in his eyes as he smiled at them with the unhinged grin they had come to both love and fear.
“Yes.” He said breathlessly. “Yes, let Daisy decide!” He said a little too excitedly. “You’ll probably have to beg.” He added, unable to keep the mirth from his tone as he leaned down to you and gestured for you to move closer to the edge of the chair.
You did so, scooching forward and holding the baby a little further from your body as you angled her towards the guys,
“She won’t stay settled like this.” You warned Eddie. “Better make it fast.”
“That’s the plan.” He murmured so only you could hear.
You sniffed out a laugh.
Of course it was.
Anything to make the club suffer a little harder after they’d pulled one over on the DM.
You figured you’d probably be taking Daisy home now anyway. May as well let Eddie have his fun watching the guys beg as penance for their sins and then deny them their fortune that would help them get out of the haunted house ride before midnight.
They were going to have a hell of a time with all the disadvantages Eddie gave them after Daisy cracked it from her uncomfortable position and he could claim that not only did she refuse to give them her fortune but that she had handed them some misfortune as recompense.
“Alright, who’s begging?” Dustin asked jovially. Hands on his hips as he turned to the group, ready for a manly discussion only to find that all eyes were on him. “Oh come on!” He shouted, throwing up his arms in exasperation. “Fine!” He sighed, a little too quickly, taking a breath and turning to you with conviction.
He knew he wasn’t winning that argument and he wanted to get this over with as fast as possible.
“Please!” He exclaimed suddenly, dropping to his knees in front of the throne and pressing his hands together in prayer. He bowed towards Daisy. Trying his best to ignore the unhinged smile forming on her Father’s face and the disappointed look on yours. “Please oh Goddess of Good Fortune–”
“Angel.” Eddie interrupted, pinching the bridge of his nose with his fingers.
“Oh Angel of Good Fortune.” Dustin corrected, “Please choose to still mpart us with your wisdom–”
“Gifts!” Eddie said sharply.
“Gifts!” The kid corrected again, looking up at Eddie with narrowed eyes before turning back to the baby. “Please impart us with your generous gifts and help us through this obstacle we are stuck behind and are not allowed to just step over.” He said derisively, making the group behind him chuckle.
“What do you think Baby?” Eddie asked Daisy directly, bending down and resting his hands on his knees as he stared at his newest love with doe eyes. “Should we still give them your gifts?” He asked, voice gentle and softer than they’d ever heard before as he cooed at her.
Daisy blinked up at him. Paying no mind to you or any of the other people in the room, least of all Dustin as she shifted uncomfortably. Little lip beginning to tremble.
“Well.” Eddie laughed, pushing his palms off his thighs and standing straight again. “I think that-” Eddie began, looking at Dustin smugly.
“Oh my God!” You gasped suddenly, cutting Eddie off and making his head snap back down towards his daughter. He watched, mouth agape as she moved her little head up and down. Seemingly nodding in response to his question.
“What the fuck…” He whispered hastily, recoiling.
“Language!” You chastised again, tone wavering as you also stared in shock at your newborn that had apparently understood her Dad’s complex question.
Now that was spooky.
“How did you do that?” Eddie asked Dustin quickly, reminiscent of the way they had asked him when Daisy had spat the pacifier across the table.
Dustin shrugged, looking just as bewildered from his place on the floor. His hands that had previously been outstretched as if in prayer were now withdrawn to his chest as he leaned away from the baby.
Wary of her.
He turned back to the group slowly. All of them standing there in shock as they watched the interaction between their teammate and what appeared to be a completely conscious baby.
“Well, it’s settled then.” Gareth said quickly, everyone turning to him slowly as he shrugged and gestured towards the table with one hand. “The Godd- Uh, Angel, has spoken.” He smiled, looking around at the other guys and jerking his head towards the game. “Shall we?” He asked, pulling out his chair and sitting down in front of his character sheet.
No one else moved for a long moment. Not even you as you stared down at your little one and tried to figure out if she could understand you or not.
“Uh… Sure.” Eddie replied when no one else made a move. He turned to you with worried eyes. “Did you want to…” He trailed off as you snapped back to yourself, realizing Daisy was probably still uncomfortable as she wriggled around in your arms. You repositioned her, nodded at Eddie’s question with an equally concerned expression.
Yes, you definitely wanted to go home and yes you would take the baby so the guys could finally finish their ill fated journey through the haunted mansion.
Even though you were honestly a little scared of her right now and wished Eddie would come with you.
Maybe you’d go and visit Wayne instead…
“I’m sure Eddie can speak for The Angel.” You chuckled awkwardly. “She needs to go home and get some proper rest in a quiet room.” You explained, leaning towards the diaper bag Eddie had stashed under the table and stopping half way as he dove for it instead to save your back.
“I will speak for The Angel…” Eddie began, frowning as he helped you get up from his throne. “Even though I am starting to wonder if she can speak for herself…” He added quietly, sounding skeptical. “But first I’m gonna walk these guys to the car.” Eddie said apologetically, placing a hand on your back and turning towards the main entry of the room as you bid goodnight to the club.
“Oh!” You said, stopping by the door. “The pacifier?” You asked Eddie. Watching as he pointed a finger in the air and turned back towards the guys.
“It’s right he-” He paused, sidling up between Dustin and Mike and staring at the blank spot on the game mat where it had landed earlier.
“Here!” Gareth interjected, finishing Eddie’s sentence as he held up the pink paci and made a motion like he was going to throw it.
Eddie held out his hands in response.
“Thanks man.” He said, as he caught it between his palms. Returning to you and leaving the club in stunned silence as you both left the room and headed towards the parking lot.
“Really?” Dustin asked, sounding exhausted but impressed none-the-less. “Using the pacifier to make the baby nod?” He asked as Gareth grinned from ear to ear and each of the other members of the club began to catch on to what transpired earlier. “You realize they’re scared of their baby now?” He asked. “That’s diabolical.”
“Not as diabolical as you pretending we all planned a prank and totally knew what the fuck was going on earlier.” The other teen shot back immediately, looking around after he spoke in fear that Eddie had somehow returned without them noticing.
“I’m just surprised you all caught on to be honest.” Dustin said earnestly as they all argued back about the statement.
“Seriously though…” Grant began when the shouting died down. “Did any of you think that baby was real for a second?” He asked quietly, eyes flicking towards the door as an affirmative murmur moved around the table.
“God no.”
“Not a chance.”
“Nope.”
“Absolutely not.”
“Good.” Grant nodded. “I stared to think I was the only one that thought Eddie was full of shit.” He admitted, falling silent as the sound of Eddie’s footsteps coming back up the hallway forced them into a huddle to discuss how they were going to move through the obstacle they were stuck behind if Eddie decided they really didn’t deserve Daisy’s gifts.
“Sorry about that guys.” Eddie sighed as he slumped down in his throne once more. He leaned back in his chair, ready to press play on the tape player and resume the ambient sounds. His fingers sliding over the buttons and furrowing his brows as he picked it up instead so he could look at it. “Ah shit.” He laughed, holding it in his lap.
“What?” Dustin asked, looking between the DM and the device.
“I thought I stopped it, but I guess I hit record instead.” He sighed. “Oh well, I guess it’s a good thing.” He shrugged. “Daisy will get a kick out of your prank one day.”

Part 3 (One of Us) of 'Never Took The Time (To Forget)' previously known as 'Hopper Adopts Steve But Make It Sad'
Part 1 (Hop fucks up), Part 2 (Pride and Prejudices: Joyce Edition), part 3, Part 4.1 (With a Capital 'P'), Part 4.2 (Robin's Boy), Part 5 (Man Of The Hour)
Here's a bit more for you filthy animals 😘
Much like he's come to expect from the small soldiers these children have fashioned themselves into he's not surprised when they come pouring out of whichever of the twins' rooms they shoved themselves in like codependent sardines. He's not surprised by the looks of anger and disappointment and confusion. Claudia Henderson's kid -Dustin- looks on the edge of tears with a grim set to his mouth that reminds him of when the kid's mom is beyond words in her slow-burning fury. El and Will have matching looks of disappointed confusion.
What he's not expecting is the way Mike and the younger (usually more volatile) Sinclair are holding onto an incensed looking Lucas. Lucas who has always been the polite one when it came to addressing adults and the one to preach caution and thinking plans through. Lucas who has been quiet and withdrawn since Hop came back, spending his days at the edge of Party affairs when not helping in the rebuilding efforts around town or sitting at Max's bedside.
"What the fuck, Hopper?" The kid spits out and that seems to snap the rest of The Party into action. Will goes to join the two holding Sinclair back but Dustin starts near incoherently yelling in that screechy pitch only that kid seemed to be able to hit about bullshit cops and useless adults and to let Lucas go. "He idolized you, man! Would tell us all the time that you were 'one of the good ones' that if we ever needed anyone and he wasn't there, to find you. That you would take care of us because that's just what you did for people. Because you were good!"
"Lucas, chill out man." Mike pants though he's also glaring daggers at Hop.
This is where Joyce (god bless her) decides to step in. "Lucas, honey-" She says with her soft voice and big wet eyes and that warmth she seems to infuse into everything she touched. "It's complicated. There's some things you just don't understand and-"
"No! You two don't understand! Steve is GOOD. He's good and he cares and he takes care of everyone else and he always kept us safe." The kid seems to be losing some of his steam, pulling at his friends less and resigned to shaking in barely contained fury. "He gets hurt and he gets back up and he apologizes for taking a fall in the first place! He's just Good."
"I know he's been good to you kids and I appreciate that, I really do Lucas." Joyce says, her voice a little stronger, that steadiness returning. "Sometimes people in our lives can do bad things to others and we don't see it because we care about them and that's not always a bad thing. But we have to remember that the people who were wronged are allowed to be upset and that's normal to feel and-"
"You mean like Jonathan?" The room goes quiet. Will looks resigned but not surprised by Lucas' question but the rest of the kids look just as confused as him and Joyce. "Did you really think Steve broke his camera -in the school parking lot of all places- for the hell of it? Did you seriously never question it?"
Hop feels something twist in his gut. He had been so caught up in the search for Will and wrangling a frantic Joyce that he hadn't paid any attention to small-town squabbles like two teenagers having it out in the school parking lot, the destruction of personal property or what might have triggered it. He looks over the kids' heads to see Jonathan and his stoner buddy standing just outside his door. The friend looks confused but Jon is looking at his mom who hasn't noticed him yet like a man preparing himself for the gallows.
"Mom." Joyce's eyes snap from where they were locked on Lucas up to her oldest son. "Mom, I-"
"What are they talking about Jon?" It's quiet. Quiet and scared because everyone in the room knows that whatever secret reason Lucas (and maybe Will?) seems to be the only one to know Steve had for picking a fight isn't going to be good. Jonathan's mouth opens like he's going to say something but no words come out. "Honey, what did you do?"
"He took pictures of Steve and his friends the night Barbara Holland disappeared."
"Will?" all eyes except Lucas' (who is still glaring daggers at Hop) are on the two brothers. One scared and almost pleading the other disappointed and resolved.
"He hid in the bushes and took pictures of Steve and his friends with Nancy and Barbara. There were pictures of Barbara at the Harrington place before she died and he never told anyone. But there were also-" He takes a deep breath, closing his eyes like he can't look at his older brother who has hung his shaggy head under everyone's heavy gaze. "There were pictures of just Steve and Nancy. Alone together. In Steve's room."
There's a sharp gasp that he thinks came from Joyce but he's too busy watching the young man he's come to consider a son. His head is still lowered and his shoulders are curving in on themselves as he shakes off the hand his long-haired friend tries to place on his shoulder.
"Oh baby," Joyce's voice is wet again. A tone of horrified disappointment to it that Hop has only heard her use when talking to or about one other person. "Tell me you didn't."
"Then he-" Will clears his throat like this one is what gives him pause. "He was caught developing the pictures in the school's darkroom. All of the pictures. And he had zoomed in on Steve's window. Nancy was the center of the shot." The kid's eyes flit over to Mike (who is now turning an interesting shade of red as he glares at Jonathan) before he blushes and looks at the ground, "She uh-"
Lucas does not seem to share Will's newfound hesitance in the face of an enraged Mike Wheeler. "Most of the upperclassmen argue if she had a bra or not but they all seem to agree she didn't have a top."
"Oh my god." Everyone was frozen as Joyce began to crumble. "Oh my god." He reached out to catch her, her nails digging into his arm through his shirt sleeve as she stared unseeing at her oldest son.
Jonathan started forward. "Mom, I-" a hand in the middle of his chest stopped him. "Will, please, I need to-"
"Just stop, man." Lucas sighs. "You started this shit, you gotta deal with it before you hurt someone else besides Steve."
"I didn't mean to hurt Steve."
Hops feels himself frozen to the spot in a way he's not used to anymore these days. His mind is working overtime picking out all of the charges that could have been pressed even against a boy of 15/16 if any of the kids in Harrington's inner circle had told an actual adult about the situation. The veritable legal hell that would have been brought down on Joyce while searching for a son legally assumed dead.
"Is that what you told yourself when you helped Nancy cheat?" And it just kept getting worse.
Joyce gives off a whimper and the kids gathered make varied sounds of shock and disgust.
"They were broken up."
"Were they? Cause everybody at school and half the town seems to all know about you and Nancy disappearing together when Steve was still calling her his girlfriend and then you all showed back up to school, Steve beat to hell again and Nancy hanging all over you. The basketball team STILL talk about it."
He's heard enough. "Alright, that's it!" He yells out over the children yelling and Joyce demanding answers and Jonathan's friend trying to say something about there being some sort of explanation. "This doesn't help us help Steve."
Lucas shakes off the loose hold Erica and Mike still had on him and crosses his arms as he rolls back his shoulders and tilts his jaw up to fix him with a glare. The kid's stance is almost arrogant but Hop can't help but notice the way he rests his weight on his off side, his shoulders back and his posture straight without his chest puffing out ridiculously like Hop is used to from teenage boys gearing for a fight.
"I think you've helped enough, Hopper." It's quiet and biting and he lets himself have a moment of grief for the childhood these kids lost, and the fact that he's almost positive Lucas didn't pick up this easy confidence from anyone else in their monster fighting club but Steve. "You and Mrs. Byers want to play nice now cause you feel guilty and that's all well and good but what happens when Steve does something else you don't agree with without explanation? Or he and Jonathan or Nancy get in another fight? When we finally get rid of Vecna and the Upside Down for good? What happens when you don't feel guilty anymore?"
"I can't make any sort of promise you lot will believe. And lord knows I'm pretty shit at keeping them anyways. I just want to be able to try."
"He mourned you, you know. When we were told you didn't make it." That weight is back in his chest. "He held himself together around us but there were- there were moments we could tell. He and El really bonded over that. Over you. Over losing you."
"I didn't know."
"Of course you didn't. You didn't want to know."
"There's no way I can make you believe me. That I want to fix this."
"We want to, Hopper." Dustin butts in, placing a hand on Lucas' shoulder and limping up next to the other boy. "But from what you and Mrs. Byers were talking about... There's just a lot that makes a lot more sense and it doesn't inspire a lot of faith in either of you."
"We need to discuss this as a Party."
"Okay."
"That means letting us take care of it. Steve's one of us and you hurt him."
"I understand."
"So you and Mrs. Byers have got to wait till we say you can talk to Steve. That he's ready for it."
"Now, kids-"
"No they're right, Joyce. We fucked it up on our own and- and he trusts these little shits more than he trusts us right now. We've gotta do the same."
Joyce sighs, "Fine."
She's not happy about it and honestly neither is he. But if the last few years and his stint in a Russian gulag and the subsequent escape taught him anything it's maybe he needs to trust his people to do what they need to do.
The kids scurry back to whichever of the Twins' room they came from, led by a newly determined and involved Lucas and a furiously muttering Dustin. Jonathan and Joyce make their way to the kitchen and Hopper decides he's going to let them have that conversation in as much privacy as they can with a house as full as theirs.
Hopper sits in the living room, runs his hands through his hair that's finally growing out and pulls them down his face before resting his chin on steepled fingers. He hates sitting and waiting and relying on someone else for the next steps. But all he can think about is the sound Steve made. The look in his eyes. The pride in his voice the last time he heard him say, "My Hop."
That's it!
He stands up so fast his bad ankle protests and his knees pop. He limps to the front door, yelling out to the house that he has to go, has something to do. Calls out he has his walkie and that El needs to be ready on time. Then he's out the door.
Part 4.1
More coming soon! Hopefully! Work went from an active team of about 12 to 5, not including the managers we lost ssssooo... Yeah fun times. 🙃
So here's a tag-list, hope I didn't miss anyone. Feel free to yell at/with me in the comments or ask box. If you see your old tag in my list tell me your new one so I can fix it.

Brother's Best Friend [BBF]
Summary: Your older brother's best friend seems 2 have gained a little crush on you. Pairings: Yandere! Mike Wheeler x Reader [Possible Lucas x Reader?] Tw/Cw: Perv Mike, Aged up Mike, Dustin is older brother, They're like a year apart, They have different dads, Eddie is alive still for plot, The boys are upperclassman, Panty stealing-, Slight NSFW themes Taglist: @fxchild, @milesfairchild2, @maxiscoolongg, @penguinsravioli, @totallynotafroggie, @jackass-1 [Part 2?]
You didn't know much about your brother's best friend, Mike, but he always gave you this weird vibe. Though, your brother was weird too, so of course he attracted weird friends.
Thankfully, he was never mean to you, unlike Dustin's other friend, Lucas. Lucas had always found a reason to taunt you just for fun, nothing ever truly cruel, but it did get on your nerves. Though, your mother would always reassure you he was just teasing you, because that's what boys did.
You thought it was just plain annoying. You didn't understand why boys being mean to you meant they 'liked you.' Maybe they were just fucking mean.
---
You looked at the clock before realizing that you might be able to sneak into the kitchen and get something to drink. Your mother was probably asleep and you were sure Dustin was at a friend's house, so you were in the clear.
Though as you make it downstairs, you hear voices, causing you to groan. You slowly walk down the stairs, before peaking around the corner. It was Dustin and his D&D [?] friends? You weren't sure what they were doing, but it looked like they were playing that stupid game.
You tried to sneak past, but those boys must have had some keen hearing. Mike nearly instantly notices you and you both make intense eye contact. You froze, hoping he wouldn't say something. Thankfully, he didn't. Unfortunately, someone else did.
Eddie was the first to acknowledge you and you couldn't help the annoyed/disgusted face that appeared.
"Aww, that's not a pretty face."
"It's past midnight- Why are you guys in our house? Go home."
"Chill out, Y/n. We're just finishing our game." Dustin says, not even looking at you.
"Yeah, Y/n. Calm down. We'll leave when it's over," Lucas says, "Besides it's not like we're bothering you."
"Whatever." You roll your eyes and head to the kitchen.
You hurry and get your drink, before heading back up to your room. Mike watches you like a love sick puppy, which catches Dustin's attention.
"Hey, that's my sister," Dustin whisper yells.
"You're only like half siblings," Mike says, not looking over at Dustin.
Dustin glares at him, annoyed, "I don't care if she's my third cousin two times removed, you still can't date her. Don't date your friends' family."
Mike isn't listening, his mind obviously elsewhere. Dustin smacks Mike on the back of the head, causing him to wince.
"What was that for?"
"You're being a pervert, that's what."
"No I wasn't. I was just... Making sure she didn't fall."
"Uhuh, come on, it's your turn."
"Besides," Lucas pipes up, causing both Mike and Dustin to look at him. "You don't have a chance with her in any world."
"Man whatever."
---
Mike knew he shouldn't. It was gross. It was perverted. It was awful, but he didn't care. He looked through your cabinets, opening drawers from your dresser, hoping to find the gold mine. His eyes lit up when he finally found what he was looking for. He was hesitant, but he decided screw it. He grabbed a pair of frilly panties before stuffing them in his pants.
He knew it was wrong. He really did, but god it felt so good. He applauded himself for taking a clean pair instead of a dirty pair. It was the only lenience he'd give himself of not being a nasty, disgusting pervert.
But he knows... He knows if he had had the time, he would have. It was a terrible thought, but he knows. He probably would have jacked off on your bed with some of your underwear on his cock, while having sniffing another pair.
---
Mike spots you leaving the school, quickly opening the car door and rushing towards you while calling your name.
"Y/n!"
You sigh, but ultimately stop so he can catch up. He leans over, catching his breath, before straightening up.
"Where you going?"
"Home?" You look at him as if he had just asked you the stupidest question in the world.
"Home- Yeah, that's where I'm heading too."
"Hopefully, you mean your own house and not mine."
"Yeah, of course. You know if you ever need help with work, I'm always free for you." He says balancing on his feet, while looking at you sheepishly.
"I'm in AP classes?" Your eyes scrunch together. "In fact, I think I'm above you in some subjects."
"If you want to come over, to work with someone, you can always come over."
"Yeah... Probably not, but thanks... I guess?"
You try and push past him, but he blocks your way, causing you to groan.
"I mean we don't have to do work. We can just hang out."
"Hang out? With my brother's friend. Oh my god, what a great offer."
"Really?"
"No. Now move."
He sighs, but ultimately gets out of your way. He turns around, watching you get into the car with some of your friends. He didn't know why you were playing hard to get, but he wouldn't give up that easily.

Because I think I might get around writing for most of the men at some point for the future au I wanted to see or already arrange how many kids they would have
Jin would have two kids in complete accident, he was very happy by his father's discontent at his heir's lack of kids but things happened, the person who celebrated them the most was the grampa. Maybe two boys or a boy and a baby girl.
Thoma screams girl dad, doesn't he? Just imagine him braiding her hair for evening tea and being a menace to any boys she brings home with Alan if they break her heart, he is still a delinquent at heart.
For Luca I'm split between wanting him to have two boys to mirror him and his brother or a spoiled girl he plays knight for, sigh, such a hard decision...
Kaito, how did he reproduce?
Alan, two kids, one of each, no hesitation, he has a ‘little princess’ who he is nervous of hurting accidentally when he holds her but is as much of a wild beast as his brother. They like going hiking and getting chased by their dad when they get too close to a lake or too far away from the path.
In Leo’s scenario i see him with a daughter that managed to soften out his meanness (while she is around so she doesn't pick up on much of his sass, kids don't make miracles) and left him with another on the way that I also feel would be another girl. He is just a bit annoyed he doesn't have to redo the nursery for content but whatever.
Sho I KNOW that in his fic I said ‘nephew’ but imagine a baby girl that was playing with her family before she was even born and had you two scattering to find a girl's name at the hospital. It's just the beginning of her mischievous streak. Sho thinks it's his karma from being a thug as a teen.
I don't know why but I can see Romeo having three kids? Maybe because Gucci had like five kids or it's to a certain degree to assure himself the MC wants to stay with him and wouldn't leave out of the blue 💔 attachment issues bb.
Ritsu originally only wanted one child, he was an only child and was happy getting all the attention, but not everything went as he planned so he got twin boys.
Taiga, why would you do this to yourself??
Haru already has a son, peekaboo, but when he grows up he accidentally has a boy who he starts giving some minor tasks around, separating some leaves for the animals, brushing peekaboo’s hair, plucking weeds, etc etc. Don't look at him like that! He need all the help he can get.
Towa has girls! They like fairy tales with happy endings and always bother their dad to tell them your love story. When they become toddlers they go through a vegan phase to mimick him and will cry if they have meat or egg on their plate.
Ren was 99% sure he was going to die a virgin. He ends up with a girl he plays games with everyday after work. Borderline ipad kid.
Can grandpa Ed even have kids? Lol if he has I think I could see him with just one vampy baby that sits next to him and drinks tears off a sippy cup while his dad watches iceberg videos. Another ipad kid.
Rui (if somehow you broke his curse) is someone who I don't think would have kids, or at least not planned jajs but maybe one girl that he ends up overprotecting from playboy men like him in his youth.
Lyca I want to say they have a litter just for the joke of him being a werewolf but he doesn't seem to have any siblings so the joke doesn't get far :(
I see Subaru with only one child if any. He loves the little thing but feels he is intruding on their privacy, whenever he touches his preteen/teen kid he feels sorry enough to apologize.
I see Haku as someone who would be pretty chill with his life after Darkwick and go along with it as it happened. If you two had a child, great; if you didn't, great too. Very go with the flow parenting too.
Zenji he is dead wth jajajaj
Yuri NEEDS a little child that is always so impressed with their papa and he gets to brag about being the best or something. Please just don't let him be a strict teacher so your kid will follow his steps, he thinks it's for the best of their future but you can coerce him into just giving a very lengthy lecture about anomalous medicine without tests.
Jiro HAS to have a boy that is so similar to his uncle 🥹 always cooing since he is able to vocalize and chasing his dad around to get uppies while he tends to the backyard filled with herbs.

Copenhagen
Pairing: Luca x Fem!Berzatto!Reader
Fandom: The Bear (Hulu)
Summary: You go to Copenhagen with Marcus, and meet Luca.
Warnings: SMUT, Cursing
*******
“I don’t know why you’re coming with me,” Marcus stated in the airport. “You know I can do this by myself.”
“I do know you can do this by yourself,” you agreed, “But I can’t explain it. I have to watch you do this by yourself...and going to Copenhagen is pretty great, too.”
Marcus smiled. “Yeah, right.” He rolled his eyes.
You were a Berzatto, Bear and Sugar’s little sister. It was Carmy’s idea to open a new restaurant when you all found Mikey’s money, and you and Nat were just helping out where you could. You threw yourself into this new project, though. A lot of it was to honor your late brother, but there was something else involved. You couldn’t put your finger on it, no matter how hard you tried. For some reason, you were as driven to open up the Bear as Carmy was, and you weren’t even involved in the kitchen.
Copenhagen was a beautiful city. Honestly, you loved anywhere that wasn’t America, but Chicago was your home.
“Who are you?” a British voice called out as you entered the pastry section of the kitchen.
You caught the eye of the man wondering who you were and quickly answered, “My name is Y/n Berzatto, are you Luca?”
He nodded, “That’s correct. You’re here to ask me questions?”
“About Marcus and your time together today, yes,” you confirmed.
Before you could get your first question in, Luca had a query of his own. “Why didn’t you come in with Marcus today?”
“We’re opening a restaurant back in Chicago. There’s a lot of stuff I have to do,” you smiled.
Luca smiled as well. “Alright. Fire away.”
You had a few questions to as Luca regarding Marcus and the craft, and that took you about ten minutes. “Thank you,” you bid genuinely when you were done.
“No problem,” Luca was still smiling at you. “Can I ask, why did you come all the way to another country when you could have sent those questions in an email?”
There was that same line of questioning Marcus had been asking you as you got on the plane over there. “Because...I just want everything to go right for this restaurant. I can’t explain it...but...”
“You care about everything, more than anything,” he finished for you.
That was the best you had heard your reasoning be explained, and you weren’t even the one that explained it. “Yeah,” you smiled at him in return.
“Yeah.” Luca went on, “Do you cook?”
“No, no,” you laughed off. “That’s my brothers’ thing. My-my sister and I stick to the paperwork side of things.”
“I find that surprising,” Luca revealed, “Carmen is the best chef I’ve ever worked with.”
You laughed again. “Yeah, I get that all the time.”
“Do you want to help me out with something?” Luca offered.
Daring forward, you peaked at his work. “What is it?”
“It’s called a compote. I could teach you how to make it, if you’d like.”
“Haven’t you done enough teaching for today?” You referenced Marcus.
Luca just smiled at you. “I don’t consider this work. Especially involving someone as beautiful as you.”
You felt your cheeks heat up. “Well, how could I say no to that invitation?”
Making it was easy enough. It involved boiling mixed berries, sugar, and honey...and that’s about it. You knew he went extra easy on you.
“Do you make this dessert for all the girls who wander into your kitchen?” you teased as you and Luca shared the compote.
He was quick to quietly respond. “No. Only you.”
A chill ran down your spine. You decided to remind him. “I’m only in Copenhagen for a week.”
“Darling, I’ve been wanting to do this since you walked in here.”
Without another thought, you leaned in and kissed him.
Almost everything about him was soft. His hands as they caressed your face, his lips as they danced with yours, everything was soft except for his chest as you racked your hands down it, aiming for his belt. His chest was hard as hell. You could feel his muscles flex as your hands came in contact with him.
Luca stopped you as you reached his belt. “Not yet,” he told you before standing and lifting you up onto the counter with little effort, “Can I take these pants off, darling?”
You lifted your hips as he slid the clothing down your legs. He planted a few kisses on them as he rose back up to meet your lips again.
Luca stood between your legs and slid his fingers up your folds as he kissed you. He held the two fingers up between you. “All this for me?”
“You weren’t the only one who wanted this to happen as soon as I walked in,” you revealed.
Luca put his two fingers in his mouth and sucked, all while keeping his eyes on you. “Now this is the best thing I can remember tasting in a long time...you ready?”
“Please,” you nodded.
Luca kissed you again before inserting his two fingers inside you.
You whined against his lips, and grabbed onto his shoulders.
Slowly, he started pumping them in and out of you with you rocking your hips along with him. Luca made out with you as he did that. You could barely keep up with his tongue. Soon, he brought in three fingers, and suddenly, you couldn’t keep up at all. You decided to wrap your legs around Luca and to just sit there and let it happen to you.
You felt your orgasm rising in your stomach. You were almost there when Luca pulled his fingers out of you.
“Fuck, darling. Can’t take it anymore,” was all he could say. He pulled his pants down enough to free his sizeable dick before shoving it inside you.
You let out a yelp, but Luca cut you off by covering your lips with his again.
Luca immediately started thrusting in and out of you. “That’s more like it,” he said when he broke away from kissing you. At a certain point, he just held you close as he, almost violently, made love to you.
“Luc--!” Your voice broke off as you came.
“That’s it. Squeeze me just like that--Good girl,” Luca emphasized as he came inside you with one final thrust. He brought his forehead back to yours before holding you in another kiss.
When that kiss broke, you asked Luca, “Can I have my pants back, please?”
“Of course.” He broke away from you with a laugh as he quickly readjusted his pants and belt and found your clothes lying on the floor.
You took the last bite of the compote as you waited.
With everyone’s clothes back on, Luca extended, “You’re more than welcome to come back any time you’d like, and not just for...that. Though, I wouldn’t be opposed.”
“I wouldn’t be opposed, either,” you returned, mocking his accent.
Luca cracked a smile as he looked at you. He slowly leaned back in for another kiss.
When you returned it, Luca leaned you against the counter.
The kiss eventually ended and you bid, “I’ll see you tomorrow, Luca.”
“See you tomorrow, Y/n.”
Two of your hands touched as you walked away, only breaking contact when you were too far to keep it.
You left Luca alone in his kitchen.
Sequel! Chicago

Chills Right to the Marrow Part 55
ao3 link| part 1 . . . part 52, part 53, part 54
Dustin wakes up with a cold sweat, panting. The early morning sun making its way through the window. Illuminating his room. He blinks away visions of broken glass on his floor, the body of his cat. The truth that his mother can never know, the secret he keeps from her.
He’s jealous of the people that have someone else in their house to talk to about this. Mike has Nancy, Lucas has Erica, Will and El have their entire house. Steve has Eddie, and Robin considering how much she stays over there. He has no one.
Something pounces on his bed, startling him. Tews coming up to bump her head into his arm, purring.
“Jesus,” he jumps. She continues to rub against his arm until he starts to scratch around her collar. “Be glad you’re cute.”
He gets out of bed, heading to the kitchen. Tews following beside him, probably wanting food. He pulls out the container from the pantry and fills her bowl, watching as she goes to eat it. A different scene flashes in his mind when he blinks. He wishes he could ignore it.
“Dustin,” Claudia’s voice comes from the doorway. “She didn’t wake you up, did she?”
“No, I was already up. Just needed some water,” he lies. He hates that he has to lie, but it’s better for her.
Claudia squeezes his shoulder, moving toward the cabinets to get him a glass. Filling it before filling up the coffee pot. He takes the glass, sitting down at the kitchen table. Knowing that he isn’t going to be able to go back to sleep.
“You ok, Dusty,” his mom asks. Coming over to place the back of her hand against his forehead. “You haven’t been acting the same.”
Dustin wishes he could tell her. Wishes that she could really know what’s going on. So maybe she could help. Have some sort of answer so he doesn’t have to find one. Some way to make him feel like he used to. But she has the blessing of not knowing, he needed her to keep it.
“I’m fine,” he lies. Mind racing to think of a quick excuse. “Just tired.”
She makes the face, the all knowing mother face. Her lips pinching in the way that shows she knows he’s lying, but cares enough to say it gently. She sits down across from him. “You’ve been through so much these past few years. With Will going missing, then the fire at the mall, now the earthquake. Seeing your friends get hurt. And knowing you, you wanted to do everything to fix it, and feel bad because you can’t figure out how.
“You might think you’re hiding it from me, but you’re not. I saw you go to that hospital day after day to check up on them. I see you when you come home and the smile drops. See the pain in your eyes. I’ve tried to be here for you in the ways that I can, but I’m not sure it’s enough.”
He didn’t know she knew. Stupidly, he thought he was hiding it. He thought he was putting up the right front to make sure she never knew.
“And I just,” she continues. “If you think you need to talk to someone, there are resources we can look into.”
If only it were that simple. If only he could go and talk to someone. But even then, he can’t share the full truth. He can’t share what really haunts him at night. All of it would still be laced with lies. The papers he signed kept the secrets in a closed group. Not allowing anyone to come in. He doesn’t know how he could sit with a therapist and talk about this while trying to make sure he wasn’t saying too much.
“I—” he starts. Not sure how to tell her that it can’t work like that. Not sure how to communicate how much it meant to see him, and extend a helping hand.
“Just think about it,” she cuts him off. “And know I’m here if you ever need to talk.”
He nods. “I will.”
She stands, walking over to him and cupping his face with her palm, before going about her normal morning routine. So innocent to the ways of this town.
But, what she said, he forgot that she was there too. That, when Will’s casket was lowered into the ground, it was her hand on his shoulder, giving support. It was her that was called to the hospital each time he got hurt. It was her he came home to, and faked being ok.
She knew, on some level, that he could never tell her what really happened. Maybe that’s not what matters. The past can’t change, or be shared, but the future can. The promise of brightness is still there, and he wants to bask in it. He wants to move forward, get better, grow.
He wants all of it, but can’t figure out how to untie the binds that wrap his feet.
For one of the last times, he guesses, he bikes his way to Steve’s house. The heat of August slowly rising with the sun. He hears the birds chirping as they fly around, sees the squirrels start to gather their nuts. A deer runs through the woods. The familiarity of early mornings comforting.
This town holds so many memories. Good, bad, downright ugly and frightening. But it was still his home. All of them sewn together to make a feeling that he can’t describe, but everyone has. No matter where he goes, or how much he grows, this town is still the reason he is who he is.
It is terrifying to think that he will always remember, that he will never forget. But maybe forgetting is more terrifying than remembering.
“You’re here early,” Wayne comments as Dustin bikes up the drive.
“I just—” He doesn’t know why he’s here, he realizes. Just got on his bike and went somewhere familiar. Somewhere he didn’t have to hide. “Wanted to come over, I guess.”
Wayne shrugs, unlocking the door. “Rough night?”
“Kinda, it’s hard to talk about.”
“Lot of things are. Doesn’t mean you shouldn’t.”
That was the whole problem. Dustin would talk about it, but there’s only so many people that he can. Those people were his friends, with their own issues. Why would Dustin ask to dump all of his stuff on top of theirs?
“Everyone keeps saying that. You, the guys, my mom.”
Wayne studies him for a moment, before nodding his head and leading him to the living room. “You know, there were a few buddies of mine that fought in ‘Nam. When they came back, something was different about them that no one else could understand. They just came back from a war they were forced to fight, not a lot of people can say that.”
Dustin sits on the couch, listening.
“They all had their own ways of coping. One of them drank, another was in and out of prison. But the one who’s still alive, he found a group of vets and talked about it. Found the people that understood and worked with them to live past what happened to him.”
“My mom thinks I should go to therapy,” Dustin says quietly. “But I can’t.”
Wayne nods. “I know. My buddy didn’t want to go to therapy either. Didn’t have the community that he wanted. That’s why he went to the group.”
An idea starts to form in Dustin’s mind.
“Point is,” Wayne continues, “is that I’ve spent the past few months surrounded by all of you. Seeing the way you act, and react. You’re so young and already seen so much. More than anyone would have ever asked you to see. I don’t want to see it kill you like it did to them.”
A support group. With scheduled meetings. People who understand. Not just bringing it up whenever you were going to break. Stopping it as the bend began.
Dustin would be willing to do it. It was just a matter of convincing everyone else.
“I got to go.” He stands up, abruptly, rushing toward the front door.
“Woah,” Eddie says as Dustin almost runs into him. “Where are you going?”
“Dustin,” Steve asks.
They were coming out of the hall where Eddie’s room was. Eddie was wearing Steve’s old basketball shirt. There wasn’t time for this.
“I’ll explain later,” Dustin rushes as he pushes on his shoes. “But I’m coming back to whatever is happening there,” he circles between Steve and Eddie with his hand. Watching as their faces flush as he runs out the door.
He mounts his bike and feels the familiar push on his pedals. Biking down the streets he knows by memory. Until he gets to Mirkwood and pedals through. Right up that rocky hill in the woods.
He thinks back to one of the first time he biked up this hill. How it forced the breath out of his lungs and cause him to stop. Take a few minutes to catch his breath before he could continue. Now, he can do it no problem. Keep traveling like that hill was the smallest in the world. He was stronger now, older.
He was different. So, so different from that kid he used to be. Different, but still sort of the same. He still loved science, he still loved his friends. Love the same movies. But there was so much that was different. He was taller, needed to get a whole new wardrobe of clothes. Had to get a new bike, outgrew the old one. His hair was longer, and he took better care of it now.
But when he smiled, when he laughed, it was all the same. And the outside, well, everyone changed as they grew up. He wanted so much to go back and do it all over, but can’t help but think that he’d still end up right here.
There were things that he’d never choose. Horrors that would be better off unseen. But Dustin was still Dustin if he let himself be.
He knocks furiously on the Byers’ door, a tired Will opening it.
“What are you doing here this early?” he asks
“I have an idea.”

Can professor rafe be a series of fics I love it ! It’s gotta be my favorite image him being jealous and he doesn’t give you the time a day since they fucked and he sees guys approaching y/n even getting turned on by her since she’s a flirt when she talks but doesn’t notice and rafe gets jealous and tells y/n to stay but she’s like mmm no thanks because now rafe gonna be the one having to go after her if he wants her
Thank you so much for your request💕 I already thought about making this into a series or at least write more one shots for this trope. So, if you have more ideas tell me all of them🤭I hope you like what I have made out of your request!
Regrets
Warnings: Cursing, Mentions of sex, Mention of sexual acts, Angst, Fluff, Not proof-read, English is not my first language
Pairing: Professor!Rafe x Fem!Reader
How could you have been so stupid? Of course, Rafe ignored you since your last encounter, just like last time. Even if your crush on Rafe was big, you didn't want to be his fuck toy just for him to use whenever he wanted.
You started to ignore Rafe the same way he ignored you. During lectures, you focused and ran out of the classroom as quickly as possible when it was over.
You started to attend more parties and got to know some people—mostly boys. They desperately tried to get your attention, but you were too nice and pure to even notice. For you, they were nothing but nice and chill.
"Come on, give it back to me." You giggled, jumping up and down to snatch your book out of Lucas' hand.
You met Lucas and his friends at a party, and ever since then, you have been a part of their friend group.
"Mmm, Y/n/n, I think you are too short." He snickered and held your book up a little bit higher than before."
"Not true. Not everyone can be a giant like you." You tried to jump higher, your skirt rising up more, almost exposing your panties.
Lucas handed you the book and sat down before he pulled you onto his lap.
"Ey, she already sat on your lap this morning," Nick, another one of the group, spoke up.
"It's my turn. I couldn't even bring Y/n/n to one of her lectures today." A third one answered.
Before anyone else could say something you decided to speak up, "Boys, it's okay, there is enough for everyone."
You couldn't help but giggle. Everything was nothing but a big joke to you, and in your opinion, the boys were just acting silly.
-------
Rafe felt pure anger when he saw how close you got to those boys. He couldn't believe you were too dumb to notice how whipped all of them were for you. They wanted to get in your pants, and you didn't even notice, always wearing those short little skirts and giggling like a bimbo.
But why would he care? He had a wife and a child. Whatever the two of you had was meaningless. Right?
At least, that was what he tried to tell himself, but the truth was, he was jealous. He never had been more jealous in his entire life. He had to have you.
"Ms. Y/l/n, please see me in my office in 5 minutes." He said in a strict tone as he walked past the group of friends.
------
"What does Cameron want?" Liam, another boy, asked curious.
You just shrugged and stood up, taking your bag, "I have no idea. I will see you guys later."
You waved them goodbye before you made your way over to Rafe's office.
After you knocked, Rafe was quick to open the door and locked it after you entered.
"What do you want?" You asked a little annoyed.
"Who are your new friends?" Rafe rolled his eyes, sitting down in his leather chair.
You let out a little sigh, "I don't think that's any of your concern."
"Oh, but it is. You see, I thought things through. I want you, Y/n." Rafe admitted, looking straight into her eyes.
You let out a little laugh, "I wanted you too, but you fucked me, and then you ignored me, and then you did other sexual things with me, and then you ignored me again."
"I am sorry. What do you want me to say?" He raised his voice a little.
"You have a family. I suggest you live your life, and I will live mine," You mumbled, "I will see you tomorrow, Mr. Cameron."
You left the room, and a little tear ran down your cheek, which you wiped away quickly.
For the first time, you were the one to leave Rafe, and to be honest, it felt good.
------
Rafe was shocked. His whole life, Rafe had always got what he wanted. This was the first time someone rejected him. He had to make a decision— you or his family. But deep down, Rafe already knew who he was going to pick.
That was how Rafe found himself in front of your dorm at 3. a.m.
You opened the door, letting out a yawn, "It's 3 o'clock what is so-" You immediately stopped talking when you saw who stood in front of you.
"Hi," He scratched the back of his head, "I am really sorry, Y/n. Please let me explain everything."
You wanted nothing more than to be angry but had always been a person to forgive easily.
"I hope your explanation is good enough to prevent me from sleeping." You mumble and let him in, glad your roommate slept at her boyfriend's.
"Oh, and I brought you some chocolate." He smiled a little, holding out the bag.
"I hate chocolate," You told him, sitting down on your bed, "Did you make sure no one saw you?"
He nodded, setting the back down with a sigh, "As I said, I am sorry how I treated you."
"Yeah, you already told me that a few times." You crossed your arms in front of your chest.
"My marriage has not been easy the past years. When I saw you for the first time, I immediately knew I had to have you. But it was wrong in so many ways, the age gap, the fact that I have a wife and a child." He started, sitting down on the bed as well.
"After I fucked you, it didn't know what to do anymore. I cheated on my wife, but I didn't regret it. I tried to ignore you, don't ask me why, maybe I was scared or just stupid, I don't know. Then you teased me during lecture, and I lost control over myself once again."
"That doesn't explain why you are here." You interrupted, fiddling with your fingers.
"I know, princess. After I saw you with those boys, I knew you wouldn't wait forever. I had to make a decision between you and a marriage I wasn't happy in. Y/n, I feel young with you, free, happy. It's risky and won't be easy but I want you." He cupped your cheeks.
You stared at him with wide eyes, "Oh my god. I destroyed your marriage."
Rafe quickly shook his head, "No, love. You just helped me do something I should have done a long time ago."
"But your child-" He interrupted you, "She would like you."
You had no words. Rafe wanted to be with you, for real this time.
"How do I know you won't ignore me once again tomorrow?" You asked, looking into his blue eyes.
"I guess you have to trust me one last time." He mumbled before he leaned in to kiss you.
"One last time, Rafe." You answered and closed the gap between the two of you.
After you pulled away, you smiled at him, "It's Saturday, can you stay with me?"
He nodded, "Of course, princess."
"And, Rafe?"
"Yes?"
"Could you pass me the chocolate?"
Rafe let out a chuckle. Of course.

Tokyo Debunker Headcanons
I'll probably add to this list again, so this isn't all of them forever, but here's some things I like to kick around in my brain about...
Jin
His style of playing chess is extremely close to Yuri's, and vice-versa. He'll deny it if you point it out though.
Kaito
He's just like his grandma when she was young, and she finds it fun to tease him about that (even if he doesn't realise that's why she's teasing him).
His bow aim depends on his own confidence for the most part, but also on how his bow is feeling, so even if he's perfectly confident, his bow will miss to mess with him sometimes
King thinks he's striking out with Luca and the MC daily, but the two of them always clench their fists in pure adoration when he leaves. 'So pathetic we can't NOT want him' vibes.
He got along with Zenji before he died. Sometimes he can still see him, but can't recognize that it's Zenji due to him appearing like the shadowy monster figure.
He's able to see the tree on Towa's hill, which is how they originally became friends.
Lucas
Him and Lyca occasionally meet up to discuss new things they've learned about Japan and exchange notes on slang they don't understand
Sho
ADHD king who channels his restlessness and pent up energy into different hobbies and sparring.
Always jumping to a new thing since he gets bored easily and tends to pick up on the basics intuitively.
Haru
He has a difficult time accepting genuine help outside of his immediate circle of Towa and, very very recently, Ren. He's fine leaving what he considers basic tasks to others (even if his definition of 'basic' is still much more involved than others) but when it comes to lessening his own workload, he's super avoidant of it
On that note, king doesn't get nearly enough sleep. He tends to snag small hour naps throughout the day rather than sleeping for an extended period of time. He feels too restless otherwise.
Despite seeming like he's willing to spend a lot of money on things that don't really matter (tracking devices, new fliers, etc), he virtually never buys things for himself or his own sake outside of drinks at Rui's bar. A $100 purchase for someone else is worth more to him than a $2 purchase for himself.
Towa
He and Shion have a rivalry over Haru, which Haru doesn't know about. Towa is very proud he gets to stay by Haru's side while Shion can't. Shion will die mad about it.
His perception on what's dangerous to humans has been skewed by being around Edward and Shion, so he thinks anything that hasn't killed them is safe enough for humans too (even when it's not).
Haru banned him from visiting Sinostra
He knows about Haru hanging out at the bar but doesn't mind it as much as Haru thinks he does. He prefers to chill at the hill anyway, and Haru can't see the tree.
Ritsu
Ren forced him to join his game guild for the invite bonus, and both of them expected Ritsu to hate it, but Ritsu accidentally got super, super into it. More into it than Ren. It is insufferable for them both
He has behavioral models for everyone, including anomalies like the ZipperCrocs and Peekaboo.
He is insanely, terribly gullible, and the other first years have a field day messing with him over it.
Leo has him blocked on WickChat after Ritsu quoted one too many stupid laws at him.
Zenji
He became scared of ghosts after coming to Darkwick since he realized they were real at that point.
He's the 'He asked for no pickles!' for Jiro, and has carried that over even though nobody but Haku can hear him advocate for his brother.
He sneaks out at night a lot to go watch people sleep, not because he's trying to be a creep, but because he likes to see people look peaceful at rest. He misses that sensation.
He created videos before he died, but rebranded after he died to capitalize on the idea of 'famous artist dies and works become more valuable'.
Yuri
He's a germaphobe, but only outside of the medical contexts. He obviously keeps clean for operations like a doctor should, but he doesn't freak out if he gets blood on him, or so on. If blood or dirt gets on him in any other context he freaks out.
He has OCD tendencies and likely OCD itself, but he's horrible at diagnosing himself with issues, and doesn't trust other doctors to do it for him.
The aforementioned difficulty also extends to physical issues like injuries, but he's more willing to rely on Jiro for those.
Ed
He is unironically a fan of Leo's TikTok and regularly watches his content.

In Eddie’s defense, he shouldn’t have been expected to bring a jacket. Not when Steve didn’t tell him where they were going or when he sent Eddie spiraling into a pit of pining by showing up at his doorstep with a white shirt tucked into a pair of tight blue jeans and a black jacket thrown on top, looking like he stepped out of Eddie’s dreams.
Now that he thinks about it, Steve might’ve told him to grab a jacket, but Eddie was too busy picking his jaw off the floor to listen to him.
When he stepped out of the trailer and followed Steve to his car, Eddie felt a light chill in the air, but since he assumed Steve was taking them to the movies or for dinner at that diner he likes, he figured the flannel he was wearing over his Metallica singlet would be enough to withstand it.
Eddie doesn’t know exactly when this became a thing they did- Steve picking him up and taking him to dinner or a movie or ice cream or roller skating.
(That last one was Eddie’s least favorite one because he spent half the time they were there falling on his ass. Or maybe it wasn’t, because the other half was spent holding on to Steve’s hand as he guided Eddie around the rink and helped him keep his balance.)
Eddie still can’t help but feel surprised whenever Steve turns up at his door, even if it happens multiple times a week these days. He knows this is what friends do, but maybe it’s still just a little hard to believe that he’s friends with Steve Harrington.
(“You make it sound like I’m some kind of celebrity, man,” Steve said the first time Eddie voiced his shock about him wanting to spend time with Eddie.
“Dude, you are the king of Hawkins! You are a celebrity!” Eddie said, dramatically shaking Steve’s shoulders which earned him a mighty eye roll and a playful shove. “And celebrities don’t want to spend time with freaks like me.”
Steve’s face softened at that, he bumped Eddie’s shoulder with his. “Well, this one does.”)
Eddie knows Steve is being genuine every time he says he wants to hang out, but a part of him always expects Steve to get tired of him and ditch Eddie, and start taking a nice pretty girl on these outings instead.
(“Dates, they’re dates,” Max deadpanned after hearing Eddie ramble about Steve for roughly ten minutes straight. She’d clocked Eddie’s feelings for Steve right away when he came back from the roller rink with his backside bruised, but still with a dopey smile on his face to Max waiting for him at the steps of his trailer. “Steve Harrington is taking you out on dates!”
“He’s not, they’re not dates,” Eddie said with a firm shake of his head.
“Dude, Lucas literally took me to the roller rink last week.”
“Aw, cute. Did he hold your hand?”
“I held his, I skate, remember? And for a jock, he’s got terrible balance,” she says, lips twitching into a little smile. “Not as bad as yours though.”
“Hey!”)
Even if Max insists on calling them dates, Eddie won’t. He can’t. He knows Steve doesn’t see them that way so he can’t do it either, not if he wants to protect his heart.
So he ignores that Steve opens the door to his car for him like he would if this was a real date and he ignores that he lets Eddie pick the music or that he keeps a few of Eddie’s tapes in his car for him to choose from, even if they’re not at all what he likes, and he ignores the way he keeps glancing at Eddie at stop signs or red lights with a sweet little smile that makes his stomach swoop like when he went through the gate to the Upside Down did, only better.
Or he tries to ignore it, at least.
“Soooo where are we going?” Eddie asks, contorting himself so he can sit cross-legged in Steve’s passenger seat after picking the music for the ride.
Steve bops his head to the beginning of a Dio song and Eddie can’t help but feel proud.
“It’s a surprise,” he says.
Eddie groans. “Is this surprise also going to end up with me not being able to sit properly for a week?” He only realizes how that sounds when Steve’s head snaps to him, eyebrows high on his forehead. God. “You know cause I kept falling on my ass at the roller rink, not because- uh.”
He doesn’t know how to finish the sentence, but luckily Steve spares him. With a soft laugh, he says, “Don’t worry, you won’t have trouble sitting after tonight.” Then Steve smirks, the little shit. “From falling on your ass- or some other reason.”
Eddie flushes bright red.
He lowers the window and shivers when the cold air hits his face, but the wind helps cool down his flushed cheeks so he leaves it open. He notices that instead of driving them downtown, Steve is driving them further out.
“I’m not gonna have trouble sitting ‘cause you’re luring me into the woods to murder me? Is that it?”
“And why would I want to murder you?” Steve asks, pinching the bridge of his nose like entertaining Eddie’s nonsense causes him physical pain.
The wind blows Eddie’s hair away from his face. “Maybe you’re jealous of my luscious hair.” He hopes the wind makes him look like one of those cover shoots on the magazines that he sees at the store, but realistically, he knows he probably looks like a dog sticking his head out the window. “My naturally beautiful hair that doesn’t need any Farrah Fawcett spray.”
Steve narrows his eyes at Eddie. “That little shit told you!”
Eddie grins. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Yes, you do. Dustin told you, didn’t he?”
“I won’t reveal my sources,” he says, pretending to zip up his lips.
“You don’t have to, you dork. Dustin is the only one I told.” He pauses, thinking. “Maybe I am committing murder tonight.”
“Mine?”
“Henderson’s. And then yours so the secret dies with you.” He glances at Eddie with a smile. “And maybe because I am a little jealous of your beautiful hair.” His voice is a little too soft to sound like a joke.
Eddie gives him a shy smile and then flicks his hair over his shoulder with a dramatic flare. Steve laughs, head thrown back, as they drive past the Leaving Hawkins sign.
***
Steve drives them to the top of a hill just outside of Hawkins.
Eddie’s first thought when Steve parks his car next to a little forest is that maybe he’s actually planning to murder him tonight.
His second thought comes when Steve opens Eddie’s door and a gust of wind hits Eddie, making him realize that no, his flannel won’t be enough. He’s going to freeze his ass off so even if Steve doesn’t murder him, Eddie will die anyway.
His third thought comes when Steve takes hold of his wrist and drags him out of the car and towards a cliff overlooking most of Hawkins.
Eddie voices that thought with an appreciative whistle.
“Holy shit, that’s a killer view.”
“Right?” Steve asks with a grin. His fingers are still wrapped around Eddie’s wrist and he can feel the way he’s bouncing excitedly from one foot to the other.
“Yeah, wow. You wouldn’t think that Hawkins is a shit town from up here,” Eddie says, taking in not only the night lights, but the stars above them too, shining brighter than Eddie has ever seen them.
“Yeah, it almost looks normal, no monsters or alternate dimensions.”
“No hordes of angry town people who want to burn you at the stake.”
Steve gives Eddie’s wrist a comforting squeeze. He glances at the ground. “No shitty parents calling you a disappointment and an embarrassment,” he says, voice barely above a whisper.
Eddie frowns. He shakes his hand until Steve loosens his hold, but before he can retreat it into his pocket because he thinks Eddie is trying to get him to let go, he tangles his fingers loosely with Steve’s. “They came back tonight?”
Steve stares down at their hands, his thumb rubs over one of Eddie’s rings. “Yeah, and they managed to pick a fight within five minutes of walking through the door. Must be some kind of record.”
Eddie squeezes his hand. “I’m sorry, Steve.”
With a sigh, Steve finally looks up. “It’s not your fault, and besides-” He smiles at Eddie. “I didn’t bring you here to talk about them.”
Eddie narrows his eyes at him. “What did you bring me here for?”
Steve’s smile turns into a grin, he drops Eddie’s hand and starts walking backward toward the car. “Wait here.”
“You better not be abandoning me to die here!”
He gets no reply. Eddie squints at him as he rummages through the trunk of his car but it’s a little hard to see clearly in the dark. He wraps his arms around himself while he waits, feeling colder by the second, and resists the urge to ask Steve if he has an extra jacket lying around. It’ll send him into Mother Hen mode and he’ll start fussing about Eddie catching something and probably scold him for not bringing his own jacket.
So he acts as nonchalant as possible about the cold when Steve comes back, hiding something behind his back that Eddie can’t see.
“I didn’t bring you here to murder you or abandon you. I brought you here to have a picnic with me.” As he says this, he shows Eddie what he was holding behind his back- a checkered blanket and a goddamn picnic basket.
Eddie blinks dumbly at the two items and then at Steve, mouth gaping like a fish. “A picnic?”
Steve nods a little shyly. “Um yeah, is that okay?”
Eddie lets out a disbelieving laugh. A fucking picnic under the stars- oh, Max is going to have a field trip teasing Eddie about this one!
He realizes that Steve might be taking his reaction the wrong way when he starts to fidget so Eddie wipes the surprise from his face and grins at Steve. “Depends on what you packed in there, big boy.”
A high-pitched laughter tumbles out of Steve’s lips and even with just the moonlight he can see his cheeks tint pink. “Well, do you like grilled cheese?”
***
Eddie makes grabby hands at the basket. Once Steve spreads the blanket on the ground, he flops down and starts digging through the contents.
There’s grilled cheese wrapped in tin foil paper, two bags of chips, two sodas, and a big serving of pie. Eddie’s mouth waters.
“So,” Steve asks, wrapping his arms around his knees. “What do you think?”
“I think,” Eddie pauses, thinking. “That I don’t care if you murder me as long as you let me eat this first.”
“You’re so annoying,” Steve snorts, rolling his eyes.
“If I’m so annoying,” Eddie says, neatly arranging the food between them on the blanket, or as best as he can on the uneven ground. “Then why did you go through all this trouble for little ol’ me?”
Steve bites the inside of his cheek. He looks like he wants to say something, but then changes his mind, only to part his lips again. The look in his eyes betrays nothing, no matter how much Eddie tries to read it. Despite the cold, Eddie’s hands start to sweat a little.
But then Steve shakes his head and looks down, picking up his grilled cheese. When he looks back at Eddie again, his eyes are soft, crinkling at the corners, but whatever he saw in them before is now gone. “Let’s eat before it gets cold, okay?”
After the first bite, Eddie discovers that Steve must be some kind of grilled cheese genius. When he tells Steve this, he waves it off with a shy smile, but he seems pleased.
They talk in between bites of food, or in Eddie’s case, through mouthfuls of melted cheese. The whole time, Eddie tries to ignore the chill in the air, but every gust of wind reminds him he’s only wearing a singlet under a very thin flannel and neither does much to protect him from the cold. Still, he does his best to hide his shivering from Steve, but it’s a little hard to do when Steve won’t take his eyes off of him for some reason.
Right now, he’s staring almost unblinkingly at Eddie with his legs crossed at the ankles and his arms wrapped around his knees, a soft smile painted on his lips as Eddie tells him how excited he and the kids are about the next Hellfire meeting.
“You’re always excited about your nerdy game,” Steve smirks.
“Fair, but this time it’s different because the kids finally convinced Max to play!”
Steve’s eyebrows shoot up his forehead. “How did they manage that?”
“Well, they didn’t convince her so much as they tricked her into it.”
“Yeah, that makes more sense.”
“But! It doesn’t matter cause she’s going to love it so much she’ll beg to join again! I’ve been working on her character sheet to make it perfect for her and I got her this cool set of dice- red dice, of course, cause her character will be called Ruby. Ruby the Rebel.”
Steve’s smile turns impossibly softer at Eddie’s excited rambling. “That sounds just as cool as her. What kind of- uh like, what’s her-”
“Class?” Eddie asks, stomach swooping a little at Steve trying to remember things about their nerdy game so he can ask Eddie. Steve nods. “Oh, she’s a-” He cuts himself off when a cool breeze stirs beneath his flannel and he shivers with a curse. “Jesus H. Christ!”
Steve startles and his head whips in different directions, looking out for danger. “What?”
“Sorry, nothing! It’s just really cold! Sorry!”
Steve relaxes, then frowns. Narrowed eyes travel over Eddie’s body. “Wait, where’s your jacket?”
“Uh.”
“Did you leave it in the car?”
“More like, left it at home?” Steve’s face turns pinched. “You didn’t tell me where we were going, I didn’t know I would need a jacket!”
“Yes, you did, I told you to bring one!” Steve says, exasperated.
Oh. So Steve did tell him to bring a jacket. Huh.
“Here,” Steve says and then starts shrugging off his jacket.
“What are you doing?”
“I’m giving you my jacket, obviously.” He removes it completely and Eddie gives himself a second to commit to memory just how tight Steve’s white shirt is. It’s also thin. Eddie shakes his head.
“But you’ll be cold.”
“I won’t.” He shrugs. “I run hot.”
“You’re hot,” Eddie says and realizes too late that his brain-to-mouth filter must’ve been damaged by the cold. “I mean you look hot, like you don’t look cold.”
Steve bites down on a grin. “Take the jacket before you catch something, Eds.”
“O-kay, mom Steve.” He accepts the jacket, and when he puts it on, he can’t help but sigh happily. It’s warm from Steve’s body heat. It also smells just like him. “Thanks.”
“No problem.” Steve smiles. “Now, what were you saying?” He asks and it takes Eddie a minute to remember what they were talking about, distracted as he is by Steve’s warmth and smell surrounding him.
***
“Do you ever think about leaving Hawkins?”
Eddie jerks his head back, out of the basket where he was looking for the forks that Steve packed for the pie. “Uh, like, every day of my life, man.”
“Because of Vecna?”
“No, long before that.” Eddie finds the fork. Singular. “You only packed one, Stevie, but I can just use my fingers.” He wiggles them and Steve shakes his head.
“We can share,” he says. Alarms go off in Eddie’s head at the thought of passing the fork back and forth between them, sharing the slice of pie. He hasn’t been to that many dates in his life, but sharing dessert sounds a lot like a date thing.
“Sure,” he says, shrugging casually. Steve takes the first bite and hands it to Eddie. “Anyway, yeah. I always knew I wanted to leave. Knowing that there’s an alternate dimension at our feet that could pop up the next monster at any second only made the urge stronger, but. Gotta graduate first.”
“Where will you go? When you graduate?”
“I don’t know. Some big city with a cool music scene, maybe. I can join a band that’s actually going somewhere.” He snorts. “No offense to Corroded Coffin.”
Steve chuckles. “I’ve always thought you belong in some big city.”
“Yeah?” Eddie asks with an arched eyebrow.
“Yeah, dude, you’ve always seemed- I don’t know, too big for Hawkins,” he says with an awed tone. Eddie’s throat feels dry, he skips the next bite of pie, giving it back to Steve. “Like you should be somewhere with people as loud and talented and great as you.”
Eddie swallows thickly. His eyes haven’t left Steve’s face, but Steve isn’t looking at him, instead he’s staring ahead at Hawkins or maybe like he’s trying to see even further than that. Eddie’s glad he’s not looking at him, he doesn’t even know what his face is doing right now, listening to Steve talk about him like that, there’s probably hearts in his eyes or something.
“I- I’ve always wanted to go to New York,” Eddie says to break the silence. Steve hums like he thinks it’s a good idea. “What about you, Steve? Do you think about leaving?”
“Sometimes. I- I’ve actually been saving up money to go to college. Nothing prestigious like Nance or Robin, just community college maybe.”
“That’s great, Steve,” Eddie says.
“But I don’t think I can leave until I know it’s over, you know? The Upside Down, especially if the kids are still going to be here.”
“Yeah, I’ve thought about that. Kinda makes you want to steal another RV, pack them all up and leave Hawkins for good.”
Steve meets his eyes finally. He smiles. “Yeah, exactly.”
“I think we could do it,” Eddie says, entertaining the thought for a moment.
“You don’t think we’d end up in jail? For grand theft auto and kidnapping children?”
“Shh, let a guy dream, Harrington.”
“Okay, okay,” Steve says, holding up his hands in defense. “You know I haven’t told anyone about saving up for college. Just you.”
“Not even Buckley?”
Steve shakes his head. “I already failed once trying to get in. I don’t want anyone to know that I’ve failed again. I don’t want to disappoint anyone.”
Eddie thinks about what Steve said when they got here, about the fight with his parents, about them calling Steve a disappointment. “You could never disappoint me. Or Buckley or the kids. We all worship the ground you walk on, King Steve.”
“Shut up,” Steve says with a lighthearted shove to Eddie’s shoulder. “You don’t.”
“We do! Because we know just how good and badass you are, and whoever can’t see that is a butthead.”
“Are you calling my parents buttheads?” Steve asks with a barely concealed snort.
“That’s exactly what I’m doing!” He puts his hands around his mouth and yells. “The Harringtons are buttheads!”
Steve breaks into giggles, falling back against the blanket, squirming with laughter. “You’re ridiculous.”
“Yeah, but you love it,” Eddie says without thinking, and watches as something flashes across Steve’s face.
Before he can backtrack or brush it off as a joke, Steve sits up again, his jaw set with determination.
“The fight with my parents was because of you,” he says. And okay, that’s not what Eddie was expecting.
“Me?”
“They came home just as I was packing this up.” He gestures at the picnic basket. “I didn’t hear them come in until they came into the kitchen. They thought I was doing all of this for a girl so they started going off about me wasting my life and everything that they worked so hard to give me just to go on dates and work at a goddamn video store. They told me that it didn’t matter how much I tried, this girl was going to realize I was a failure and leave me. I don’t know what made me more angry- what they were saying about me or that they were talking about you like they knew you.” Steve pauses and takes a deep breath. “So I snapped and I told them I wasn’t packing all of that for a girl, that I was doing it for you. A guy. And that you would never leave me because I work at a video store or because our dates consist of grilled cheese sandwiches and roller skating and babysitting kids. And I guess that was a little presumptuous of me since we never really agreed that these were dates and I don’t even know if you-”
“Yes,” Eddie says when he finally finds his voice. He lost it somewhere around Steve calling this, and all the things they’ve been doing together for weeks, dates.
Steve blinks, his lips press together like he’s trying to stop himself from smiling, from getting ahead of himself. “You don’t know what I was going to say.”
Eddie rolls his eyes. “What were you going to say?”
“That I don’t even know if you feel the same way I feel for you.”
“Yes.” Eddie repeats. “Holy fuck, Steve, yes I do.”
Steve stops trying to hide his smile. He beams at Eddie. “Yeah? You’re crazy about me too?”
Eddie whines low in his throat. “Steve.”
Steve pushes himself to his knees and then he closes the distance between them by crawling towards Eddie. “Are you?”
“Yes.”
“You can’t stop thinking about me and you want to listen to me talk all day about nerdy shit too?” Steve asks, crowding against Eddie until he has no choice but to lean back until he’s lying down on the blanket and Steve is hovering over him.
“Sports shit but yeah, yes.”
Steve leans down until his lips are right next to Eddie’s ear. “You want to kiss me too?” Eddie shivers, and this time, it’s not because of the cold. He’s never felt warmer in his entire life.
“Yes,” he says. “Please, Steve.”
Steve closes the distance between them and crashes his lips against Eddie’s, kissing him hard and desperately, drawing a whimper out of him. Eddie kisses back with just as much enthusiasm, his hands coming up to grip Steve’s waist, his shoulders, his arms.
His freezing arms.
“Christ, Steve!”
“What? What?” Steve asks, pulling back just enough so that Eddie can see his face- flushed with parted, swollen lips and blown pupils.
And oh. Yeah. Eddie needs to see Steve looking like this again soon. Preferably when he’s not freezing to death.
“You’re freezing, man. Why didn’t you say anything?”
“I was a little busy,” Steve smirks.
Eddie shakes his head. “I’m giving you your jacket back,” he says, squirming as he tries to shrug off the jacket with Steve still on top of him.
“No, Eds-”
“Then we’re going to the car.”
“But I can’t kiss you like this in the car,” Steve pouts and the sight of a pouty Steve because he wants to straddle Eddie and kiss him stupid shouldn’t make him consider staying out here in the cold, but it does. Just for a moment.
“You can, if we climb in the backseat, baby,” Eddie says with a sly grin.
Steve’s eyes widen, his eyes flick to the car and then to Eddie’s lips and Eddie sees the moment he makes a decision. “Yeah, okay. Maybe I am a little cold. Let’s go.”
They pick up the trash and the blanket in record time, even while stealing short, giggly kisses.
“I can’t believe we’ve been on so many dates and you haven’t even asked me out once!” Eddie says, balling up the tin foil paper and throwing it at Steve’s face. He throws his head back with a groan. “I can’t believe Max was right!”
Steve raises an eyebrow. “You talk to Max about me? Your fifteen-year-old neighbor?”
Eddie arches an eyebrow right back. “Oh, so you don’t talk to Dustin, your fifteen-year-old best friend about me?”
“Of course I do,” Steve sniggers. “He’s the one who told me you can’t roller skate to save your life.”
“Then why did you take me to the roller rink?” Eddie asks with an undignified squeak, feeling the phantom pain of his many falls.
“So I could do this-” Steve takes hold of Eddie’s hands, tangling their fingers together, “-all night.”
Eddie flushes, looking down at their hands with a smile. “That was a good plan, I’ll give you that.”
He rubs his thumb over Eddie’s knuckles. “I have more where that came from.”
The touch makes Eddie’s insides flutter, he pulls a strand of hair across his face with his free hand, but Steve can probably still see his red cheeks. “Yeah?”
“Mhm,” Steve hums. He crowds against Eddie until his back hits the car, pinning him against it. “And I can show you. If you agree to go on a date with me.” Steve’s free hand plays with the lapel of his jacket on Eddie. “Officially, I mean.”
Eddie grins. “I thought you’d never ask,” he says, pressing a quick kiss to the corner of Steve’s mouth.
Then he’s dragging him into the backseat, and for the rest of the night, neither of them feels cold again.

music preference (Tokyo Debunker)
included characters: all of em
rating: SFW
warnings: as written by someone who only listens to fall out boy. this is just hc of course and not purely canonical! If anything is wrong, sorry!!
I'm also working on a Taiga fic okay I promise!!!
Jin
Canonically classical piano music. Might have a few operatic songs. Really not varied and considers most modern music to be senseless noise. Puts up with whatever you want to listen to as long as he doesn't hate it too much, and maybe you can broaden his preferences…maybe. Slowly.
Tohma
He can handle and appreciate classical but it's not his favorite. He does like more industrial, rap, and hip hop type songs, the exact type that Jin would call senseless noise. He's doing his little paperwork in his little monocle and he's listening to Tupac.
Kaito
Varied!!! I don't think he gives himself enough credit for the variety of music he listens to and enjoys. Knows and likes popular and viral music, but also if you're like hey this song from 2003? This song from 1987? His song from 1954? He probably knows it. He doesn't love all of them and he pretends to only Like the “acceptable” genres and new things, but I think you could play smth old af and he'd be like oh yeah my gran loved this- and he would know it.
Lucas
Guy who admits to not knowing much music. Only the absolute most popular songs he knows, and even then, it's like the catchiest bit or the chorus like babe is NOT listening to music that often. Might have like An Album that he knows well and enjoys but like it would be very limited. Share things with him! He's open minded enough to learn more.
Alan
Another “I don't listen to much music” guy but I think he knows like dad rock from the 2000’s. I don't think he necessarily loves it, he just recognizes it and if he wants to listen to music for some reason, well, Three Days Grace is there and he knows how to type that into yourtube (maybe. Maybe he has to ask Leo for help. Maybe Leo pulls up something completely different. Probably.)
Leo
A pop music enjoyer. Brat summer Twink. Olivia Rodrigo fan. Also likes dance and club music and has a preference based on country of origin. Does NOT like Vocaloid or Nightcore or probably even trance and house music of the 2000’s. He's like ew that old person music?? What am I, 30??? Very opinionated and a song he loved two months ago, now he's like that's absolute trash lmao why would I like that?? Impossible to keep up with his taste.
Sho
Listens to whatever Leo puts on, he's not a stranger to the club, but I feel like has some secret artists and genres he likes that he won't admit to under pain of torture. Like maybe he likes country or kpop or something and he's like God I can't let Leo know this because I'll never hear the end of it. But he listens to it while he's at his food truck.
Haru
Can you not imagine him enjoying a good Cher song? Some Abba? 70’s-90’s I think is like on lock for him. He's turning up, he's blessing the rains down in Africa. He knows Destiny's Child probably. Sometimes he'll be like oh yeah I know new music, like what was that song? Huh? Toxic by Britney Spears came out in 2003? Guess I don't know new music than haha!!
Towa
Hes like ~~~~!!! ~~! (This shit fucks) Listening to birdsong and the bubbling creek. But he's also not immune to A Thousand Years by Christina Perri. He likes love songs! Mostly sweet love songs, not tragic or lost loved ones (probably no Adele). He will enjoy Haru's music as well, but only for Haru's sake.
Ren
Like lofi beats to chill and study to. Movie and game soundtracks but none of the fun ones. He's NOT listening to Decode from the hit movie Twilight and he NOT enjoying Megalovania from Undertale. He would relent to the To The Moon soundtrack and other indie game osts (if not because he enjoys them then to be superior in his Niche tastes).
Taiga
His music taste goes like this:
If you play something he likes, he allows it.
If you play something he doesn't like, he says turn that shit off.
If you ask him what he likes/wants to hear, he's like ….that one song, it's like duh duh dun…no? Whatever. And he gives up.
Romeo
Let me be real with you. You will not know his favorite bands. He doesn't expect you to know his favorite bands. His favorite bands are like experimental bands from Europe who release a song only on the new moon and it's behind an ARG to get to and hear and there's only 5 physical copies of their VINYL ever made.
He also endures whatever Haru, Rui, and Leo listen to and complains only when absolutely necessary.
Ritsu
i cannot take him seriously. like the little Einstein’s theme?? Jokingggg. 😐. He probably doesn't listen to much music, probably only things he remembers from childhood, and then instrumental things occasionally but claims it's mostly just too much of a distraction. He listens to like audio recordings of law books and court cases.
Subaru
I don't know I just think he secretly likes 80’s ballads and girl bands. He likes more traditional music, instrumentals, opera and musical music, and probably can appreciate even like true classic jazz music. He has a lot of patience and tolerance and goodness in his heart and will listen to just about anything and be able to appreciate it, but if it's his choice, he is probably not listening to noise metal.
Haku
Okay Varied. Okay six thousand songs on his playlist and that's just one playlist. He just can't stand repeating the same songs over and over so he listens to anything and everything. He doesn't always remember every song that well, because there are so many and he doesn't listen to every single one daily, but there's a good chance if you know a song, he has it somewhere.
Zenji
Like Haku! He does appreciate traditional Japanese music and instruments, but he is an art lover first and foremost and will have something positive to say about anything you let him listen to. He and Haku are probably like sitting around going from YT recommended song one after the other and just being like oh yeah this Swedish dance pop is good, yes the Mongolian throat singing is good too.
Ed
VARIED but he also goes “ah, a song from before you time…I hope you'll appreciate it,” and puts on Megan Thee Stallion and listens like it's Vivaldi. He's like these Gregorian monks chanting are so musical. This bardic interpretation of Hips Don't Lie goes hard as the kids say. Blue by Eiffel 65.
Rui
Not immune to boy bands and girl bands. He likes upbeat things! He might dress goth and live in the goth house but his soul is glittery pink. He listens to a variety overall, but isn't very into anything like screamo or heavy metal. He gets bored listening to anything too slow and level. He, like Romeo, will listen to Haru's music, but unlike Romeo, he will sing along.
Lyca
Doesn't know much music! Likes whatever Subaru likes, he guesses. Doesn't like some of the songs Rui or Ed plays but those are just random misses on a spinning dartboard because they could be anything. He's figuring it out and will listen to anything you want to play for him!
Yuri
He does not like classical music as much as he claims to. He's like yeah yeah, Beethoven, that's top tier…obviously… (bored out of his mind). Guy who NEEDS to listen to to like. Russian hardstyle and Slavic dance music but he won't. He deprives himself.
Jiro
Listen to me. I wrote all of these because of Jiro. Closer by Nine Inch Nails. Bauhaus. Type O Negative. I'm SAYING he listens to goth and more gothic rock music and you KNOW if Yuri pulls his headphones out to yell at him, he just hears Tear You Apart by She Wants Revenge and he's like… I don't want to talk to anymore I changed my mind stop listening to freaky goth music. He also can hear like a biwa or other traditional instruments and feel comforted and familiar with them, even if he doesn't know why.

So, here’s an old team of Total Drama OC’s I never got around to posting. Mostly because as much as my art style is based on Total Drama’s, actually replicating it is incredibly hard for me. I might make the remaining nine if I get enough positive feedback.
Lucas, the Go-Getter, looks like the season’s voice of reason…for all of five seconds. He’s joined TD with the express purpose of preventing such world ending threats as Max, so while he’s got the physical and mental training necessary for such an undertaking, he’s clearly a little bonkers.
Jane, the Wallflower, was forced to sign up by her parents solely to help her socialize. In many respects she’s a girl version of Cameron, exchanging some mechanical expertise with a little extra social awareness and physical strength. Probably the season’s pain-magnet.
Kevin, the Hotshot, is ostensibly the leader of his team since he’s the biggest and most “popular”. He’s a good person, but he’s also an oblivious moron so he relies on the advice of less stupid teammates for guidance. This makes him immediately susceptible to manipulation from…
Raymond, the Snitch, is what happens if you take Courtney, cross her with Dave, and give him MK’s subterfuge. Knowing his snobby attitude will immediately put a target on his back, he gains the approval of the team’s leader early on while digging up dirt on everyone else.
Molly, the Rising Star, is the star of every play at her school, so she can be something of a drama queen. She’s willing to share the limelight, but her positivity goes sailing out the window if you ruin her moment or make her look bad. If she looks familiar, she should.
Jamie, the Preppie, is here primarily on holiday. He’s at least trying in challenges, but he doesn’t really do the outdoors. He’s also fairly oblivious to hints that should be obvious, which is a shame because he’s actually pretty intellectual. Probably gonna be the first boot.
Summer, the Artistic Spirit, likes to live in the moment. She’s probably one of the weirder cast members, like Izzy without the energy levels. She tends to spout vaguely cosmic sounding hippie advice that quickly devolves into gibberish, and in general gives the vibes that she’s high off a substance that doesn’t even exist.
Bobby, the Slacker, is weirdly chill about the show in a way that you have to question if he’s even trying to survive. He’s more likely to shirk than to work, and he’ll go out of his way to make it look like he’s done his job. Usually, he ends up doing more work this way than he would have otherwise.
Marcie, the Charmer, is a less latent threat than Raymond, but she’s better at the social aspect of the game. She’s a regular sweet talker who can take the heat off of any tense situation. Possibly her only weakness is the fact she secretly hates all the extra attention and peering eyes on her.

#50 just make it hurt/comfort and really angsty and sad (I’m clearly in a sad mood asking this rn 😅)
First of all, I hope you're doing better! And hopefully this suffices the ask. I got a lil' crazy with it, wrote way more than a drabble (again), but who cares?
50: Writer's preference, I chose prompts 33: "Please don't do this." and 12: "I think we need to talk."
Tags: Post Canon, Post Season 4, Established Relationship, Steve Harrington has Nightmares, Steve Harrington has PTSD, Steve Harrington is a Mess, Steve Harrington Needs a Hug, (And Gets One!), Eddie Munson is a Sweetheart, Steve Harrington is a Sweetheart, Arguments, Making Up, Mild Vomiting (Like One and Done), Miscommunication
————— Eddie notices a lot about Steve. Which makes sense, they’re dating, that’s supposed to make sense. But sometimes he wishes that he didn’t have to notice. That he didn’t have to hide his glances because he could spot Steve’s heavy eye bags, or the way his shoulders have been slumping, or how high strung and tight and angry he’s becoming.
The first time he sees a change in Steve’s demeanor, they’re hanging out with all their other survived friends. In his backyard. By the pool. Except, that’s not quite right. Everybody except Steve and Nancy are hanging out at the pool. They’re on opposite sides of the yard, surveying, keeping close eyes on everyone as they move and speak and laugh. At some point, though, Nancy decides she’s had enough waiting. She leaves her post, hesitantly sits next to Robin on the edge of Steve’s pool, and lets her feet soak in the water. Her smile comes easy and her eyes grow soft, and that’s when Eddie knows she’ll be okay. But he keeps his eyes on Steve.
Sure, he should be enjoying himself. Which he is, slightly. Standing in the shallow end, leaned up against the pool wall, just letting the water kiss his scarred skin. He’s sipping on a chilled beer. Talking languidly with Dustin and Lucas and Jonathan about music and games and hobbies. Then, Dustin leaves him. Leaves the water. Strides over to Steve, face set with determination, and a pep in his step. Eddie goes quiet in the conversation, looking over his shoulder instead to where Steve is tucked near his back door. Where he’s not drinking his beer, still sealed and dripping condensation onto Steve’s bare thigh.
Dustin asks him something. Steve shakes his head. He tries offering something else, gesturing loosely with his hand at the pool and the small group that he just came from, but Steve is adamant on his decision. But of course, Dustin never takes no as an answer. He pushes. Which leads to Steve roaring: “Dustin, fuck off!”
Everybody falls silent at that. Eyes on him. Steve bristles, chucks his closed beer to the wooden porch, and disappears into his house with a slam of the door. The beer is fizzing, exploded. And then Dustin starts crying.
That’s the first time Eddie notices a change.
The next time, it’s somewhat subtle. Steve spacey at work, quiet as he shelves tapes, not even talking with Robin. He tries speaking with Steve, but only gets some non-committal grunts instead.
His last straw is an argument they’re having. Currently.
Steve’s tired, bitchier than usual, tense in his shoulders and wild-eyed. Eddie tries to stay soft, give himself a chance to remain calm and keep in mind that Steve’s going through something. But that doesn’t even begin to deter the argument.
“Listen, I think it would be good for…us—“ You, Eddie doesn’t say. “—if you let me help you out,” he’s trying to persuade. He’s standing in Steve’s kitchen. Gesturing at the pile of dishes in the sink and on the counter. Pointing out how the garbage has overflowed. And how he knows laundry hasn’t been done lately. He’s trying to be polite about it. “It’ll be like when I first got out of the hospital, okay? You just rest up and I clean up a little bit, make you something that you want to eat, and we can cuddle and watch a movie.”
However, he knows he’s hitting a brick wall over and over. None of his words are making their way through. The softness is leaking from his throat, drying him out, making him want to puke. Steve huffs through his nose. Face red, eyebrows furrowed so hard that his eyes are nearly closed with it, nose flared, and mouth downturned so extreme he nearly looks like Beaker from The Muppets. “I don’t want your help, Eddie!” Steve shouts from his spot at the dining table. He wouldn’t let Eddie come any closer. “I’m not some child, you know that?! I’m fine, I can do this on my own, and I certainly don’t need somebody like you telling me what needs to happen!”
All at once, the gentle care nukes in Eddie’s chest. Replaced instead by a hazardous anger, red hot and corroding. “What do you mean by that?” He asks bitterly. Voice flat, devoid. “Thought we were over biases, Steve,” he spits.
Steve blubbers like an out of water goldfish. “I—That—You know what I mean, Eddie. Not like—It’s just—“ he flounders. His eyes trail down towards the watch on his wrist. They grow wet, but not the tears that come from sadness. These are tears of agitation. “Nothing’s wrong,” he says wetly; the first thing that fell from his mouth when Eddie began to bring everything up. “Everything’s perfectly fine. Just got behind in house chores, which is whatever, you know? Like—“ He chuckles darkly, a self-deprecating thing, something painfully normal. “—Who the fuck actually cares about how messy everything is, right? Just leave it alone. Let’s…Let’s go cuddle,” Steve says hastily. He clambers up and out of his seat, around the table, and into the kitchen. Wrapping himself tightly around Eddie, cheek pressed to his chest, trying to pull them into the living room.
But Eddie doesn’t wrap back. He steps away. Putting distance between them. “I don’t want to do that with you right now, Steve,” he mutters. “That fucking hurt. What you said. I don’t really feel comfortable being here right now. Forget that I brought this up, okay?” He steps around Steve, who stands stunned and heartbroken in his own kitchen. Eddie’s in the doorway before Steve has the chance to reach out and touch him again. “I—I think we need to talk. But I can’t do it right now. I can’t…Why would you say that? Jesus, Steve.” And yeah, he had different intentions when coming over here. Wanted to soothe whatever was going on. Figure out how he could help. If he could help. In fact, he would’ve been fine with Steve pushing him off again, insisting on a topic change. He would’ve let it happen. But not now.
He makes sure the hurt is shown on his face before he leaves. Before he has a chance to rub his eyes and sniffle. And ignores how Steve calls out to him. He needs to calm down before he says something he might regret, something that would hurt worse than what Steve said to him.
They don’t cross paths often after that. Sometimes Eddie sees him at Family Video, but not for very long. In just to rent a tape and get out, hurt simmering unrestful in his ribcage. He can spot Steve out of the corner of his eye, reaching out, stepping in place, mouth opening and closing. But he ignores what he has to say.
Sees Steve when he drops off people for Dungeons & Dragons nights at the Wheeler’s house. But he scurries off before anything can happen. Other people start to take notice and Eddie has to shoot a warning glance with a gritted, “It’s private. I don’t want to tell you.”
Today, though, he notices Steve dropping something off at Max’s. She takes the offered thing from his grip, shuts the door softly at his back, and then Eddie finds Steve’s eyes. Hard not to notice him when he lives only a short distance away from Max’s place, but what greets him makes his stomach knot. Steve is unwell. Pale and jumpy, eyes bloodshot, his eye bags heavy and dark circles so purple—he almost looks bruised. His hands are shaking, clothes are rumpled, and his hair is…greasy, flat, knotted. Eddie puts out the cigarette he’d been smoking and walks calmly and quietly down his steps. Crossing to Steve’s bumper.
“Hey, baby,” he greets softly.
Steve startles anyway. Turning with his hand gripping tight to his door handle. Tugging on it, though it must be locked. His eyes are wide and devastating. Wet, exhausted, puffy and swollen. They’re red raw. Like he’s been crying. And rubbing at them, too. At a closer look, Steve’s cheeks are blank of any color at all, slightly gaunt. His lips are chewed to all hell. And his facial hair is wiry, outgrown. Unkempt.
“Baby,” Eddie murmurs, stepping closer. He places a firm hand to Steve’s left bicep, squeezing ever so gently. Runs his thumb over the taut muscle. “Can we talk inside? Let me make you a cup of tea and get you something to eat?”
He doesn’t say anything, but does release his hold on the car handle. Follows slowly to the door, but doesn’t come close to the couch where Eddie gestures to.
“You can sit on the—“
“Please don’t do this,” Steve sobs.
Immediately, Eddie comes closer into his space. Hands splayed in front of him, ready to reach out and touch and hold, but isn’t sure if that’s allowed. “What? What shouldn’t I do, Steve?” He questions. His voice quivers with concern.
“Don’t leave me, Eds,” Steve cries, rattling and shaking with it. His chest stutters. Hiccups in the back of his throat. “I’m sorry—I’m so—I didn’t mean it, I was just upset and I know that’s not okay, but I—“ Steve gags harshly, doubling over with it. Eddie rushes behind him, grabs for the waste bin, and sets it out in front of him. “—I was being an asshole and I’m sorry and I’m sorry that I hurt you and that you thought I thought bad about you, but I didn’t, I didn’t, I don’t, Eds—“ Eddie can’t even understand the rest of what he’s babbling, it’s incoherent, strung tight with snot and saliva and tears, but it renders too much. Steve finally reaches out for the trash can, hurls harshly, and drops to his knees with his grip still on the can’s lip.
Eddie crouches beside him. Hand on his back, on his forehead. Holding to him firmly, ignoring how sweaty and cold he is at once. A part of him withers at how he made things worse. It wasn’t his intention, to make Steve worry this bad, but he definitely instilled that fear. And now he needs to just glue back together what he cracked.
When Steve is able to calm down, collapsing heavily against Eddie, does he speak softly. “I’m so sorry, sweetheart,” he murmurs, “I guess we both used our words wrong. I’m just so worried about you, I swear. This isn’t—I would never lead you on about a break up. And that’s not what this conversation is, I promise, Stevie.”
Steve sniffles noisily. He koalas himself around Eddie, burrowing his face into Eddie’s chest. He’s still shivering, sweaty, and weak. “I’m sorry,” he mutters.
“I forgive you, Steve.” He holds to Steve tightly. Crushing him in closer, not caring how it makes his back ache or his knees scuff the floor. Doesn’t care about how Steve’s tears soak through his shirt or the sure mess of snot left behind. He squeezes Steve’s back and states softly, “I’m just so upset that you think you have to be fine. That you can’t ask for help. That you have to deal with everything on your own.”
“I—“
“Please just talk to me, Steve. What’s going on? I just don’t understand where you’ve gone, you know? You’re so tired and angry and tense all the time. You don’t want to talk to anybody. You keep pushing us away, closing yourself off. But then you don’t take care of yourself,” Eddie rambles, his voice growing weak and choked. “I’m sorry that I—I don’t know how to talk about this without sounding like an asshole. I’m just worried. Worried that…That something’s terribly wrong.”
The implication of Vecna is not lost between them, if the way Steve tenses says anything.
Carefully, Steve pulls himself away. Staring wide and timid at Eddie. Before he breaks with another cry of, “Everybody keeps dying, Eds. The nightmares. They keep—I can’t sleep. I see it everywhere.”
“What do you see?” Eddie asks, voice shaking. Please don’t say that clock. Please don’t say the clock, Steve. Please, he internally pleads.
“Death,” Steve whispers. “Everywhere. In everybody. I see…Nancy drowning and Robin beaten and Max broken. I see you covered in blood with chunks of you missing and you don’t look at me, you just look over my shoulder and you’re gone by the time I find you. I just see it. I can’t—I can’t stop seeing it, Eddie.” He curls his hands tight into Eddie’s shirt, nearly ripping it off of his back. “And I’m always alone,” he hiccups. “Alone when I wake up. And so I leave, I drive around, I wait to see if anything bad happens. But I can’t sleep.”
Eddie brings a hand and swipes back at Steve’s hair, pushing it away from his forehead. He leans in and leaves a gentle, sticky kiss to the skin. Pulling back, he offers, “When you’re ready for bed, you find me. Call me so that I can come over. Or tell me to come get you.” He cups Steve’s face, holding him between his hands. His cheeks that are splotchy red, tacky with tears. Eyes hazel and shiny and slightly defeated, yet hopeful. Eddie tickles his thumb over the bridge of Steve’s nose, his cupid’s bow, between his eyebrows. “Stevie, baby, I never want you to think you’re alone again. Ever. Seeing you so distraught all the time was killing me, but I’m here to help. You don’t have to carry the world on your shoulders.”
“But…I’m supposed to be able to take care of myself, Eds,” Steve argues quietly.
“Yeah, sometimes,” Eddie states. “You’re not supposed to be alone, not all the time. And if laying with you until you fall asleep safely, or showing you how fine everybody is, making you a sandwich or doing the dishes—Whatever, whatever helps you out, I’m willing.” He presses another soft kiss to Steve’s lips, the tip of his nose, on his forehead. Murmuring, “You helped me. It’s my turn, don’t you think? Wouldn’t that be nice?”
Steve shrugs. “Am I supposed to just sit around?”
“You don’t have to, but you could relax. Watch a movie or do something that’s not exhausting,” Eddie explains. “Being independent, you know, doesn’t mean exerting yourself at every possible moment. Or ignoring things that bother you. Or hiding your hurt. It means seeking help, even if you do it on your own. It means sticking up for yourself, even if what’s hurting you is you.”
Against Eddie’s palms, Steve sighs through his nose. “Okay,” he mutters. “Can…Can we take a nap? I’m really tired,” Steve tentatively asks.
“Of course, sweetheart. I’ll find my soft pajamas for you, too.” He stands, offering out his hands for Steve. Tugs him up. And when they’re at eye level, “Steve?” Eyes on him, zeroed in and focused. “I want you to bother me. Be a nuisance. Take up space.”
“Are you sure?” Steve murmurs. “I can be a lot.”
“Loving you means loving all of you, sweetheart. Even the excess parts. Which, by the way, aren’t excess. Because I love taking care of you, despite what your brain is surely telling you,” Eddie says. “Come on, I’ll take care of that can while you lay down.”
He’s glad he noticed. But he’s happier at the sound of Steve’s soft snores, puffed over his bare neck, and the drool that will surely dry on his collarbone.
