I'd like to make a disclaimer that I'm not rating Ranka's outfit 1 because I hate it, I just don't think it makes a good winter outfit necessarily. But does this also mean she's into larme kei and shops at places like MA*RS and Ank Rouge? Also: 1) Yachiyo's cold shoulder sweater dress amuses me for some reason. Girl your shoulders! 2) Green is a very interesting colour choice for Temari.

Also, does Paul ever tell Emma about that his story is based in reality or that he's partially infected?

To answer the second point, I'd like to save that for if/when I write this AU as a fic. Literally the only things stopping me from writing outlines are 1. Lack of a good title idea, and 2. Lack of a logical way to justify Emma going to Colorado and staying there for an extended period of time for a job she could easily do from Clivesdale.

But back to the first point, yes thank you, these two might be the softest paulkins I've conceived for an AU yet. I say "might" bc I haven't actually written any content for them yet lmao. But anyway...

Emma does eventually start staying with Paul at his home, even before they become a couple (again, I don't have a way to justify it yet, this is still a messy-ass WIP). Hoodie/sweatshirt/sweater stealing ensues on Emma's end. I imagine the bulk of the plot taking place during Winter, and since it's Colo-goddamn-rado, it's very cold. One time Paul arrived home from a grocery trip to see Emma drawing in her sketchpad whilst wearing his red sweater (read, the Black Friday one), and he just melted on the spot. Emma was kind of embarrassed at first, but Paul was just like "nah, nah, it's fine em" whilst trying to hide his blue-ass blush because of how dang cute she looked.

Paul often reads out passages from the book to Emma to get her opinion on how it sounds. He's a very good narrator- if only because of the infection, and she finds herself so drawn in by his voice. One time late at night, she dozed off while he was reading to her, and she (somewhat flusteredly) explained that it was because his voice was so soothing, even half-jokingly suggesting that he narrate the audiobook once the story gets published.

Speaking of dozing off, these two conking out on Paul's sofa together becomes a regular thing during late-night work sessions. At first they were kind of embarrassed by how often they'd awaken all cuddled up together like that, but soon enough, it practically became routine. Once they become a couple, whoever wakes up first will carefully rise from the couch so as not to wake the other, drape the couch's throw blanket over them, press a light kiss to their temple, and head to the kitchen to make coffee and/or breakfast. Real domestic shit.

If you don't mind refreshing my idiot brain's memory hole, what's a pseudo-mammal again? I remembered the term but not the rest of what you said before reeeeeeee

It was in context with my dragons, and tbh I’m kinda realizing now it’s a pretty dated possibly wrong term so internet does not give you a lot of sources for it (or the sources aren’t what I’m referring to). But in biology and math, when “pseudo” is tied to a word, it usually means “partial” (or sometimes “incomplete”), and for a “pseudo-mammal” it’s referring to an animal that is “partially” a mammal. They have some traits of a mammal, but there are also things mixed in that don’t match what you’d see with mammals (like say they had feathers, or a beak, or were cold blooded despite having fur and live birth--basically muddled and mixed traits but some of it is very mammal-like).

Like I borrowed the term from old-ass sources where it was used to refer to the evolution process of mammals, cuz they didn’t just pop up fully evolved and ready to go. It took a long time for something recognizable as a “mammal” to appear, and before that you had animals that were kinda...mixed. Though very much also considered their own thing, calling them “in-between” forms of reptiles and mammals is a dated classification, but I digress.

[[And also this next part is just me going off on my fantasy science bullshit so feel free to skip to the next dashed line if it makes no sense. Partly writing it for myself just cuz I have an excuse to lmao]]

So for reference, mammals essentially evolved from reptiles, specifically Synapsids (like this guy that might look familiar which gave rise to Therapsids (which gave you these guys: 1 and 2) around 250-200 million years ago which gave you Cynodonts (predecessor to the mammals that evolved along dinosaurs, they’re late Therapsids). Thing with evolution though is that all those traits you associate with a modern day animal don’t suddenly pop up at once, instead those traits evolve in a “mosaic”. So like slowly placing pieces for a mosaic, through evolution those ancestral animals slowly gained different parts of the picture at different times. So esp with the Therapsid examples, you can kinda see some parts look more like a mammal, and some that seem more like a reptile, and it was not a rapid change.

With my dragons, the idea was that, evolutionarily, they hit that morphing stage  between reptiles and mammals and decided that worked well enough for them, and shot off into a new branch from there. Maybe there was some unforeseen advantage with keeping it, maybe they needed to focus their energy on evolving/mutating another pair of limbs (wings)--regardless they only evolved traits that aided them in survival, and didn’t bother with the gimmicks that didn’t really help them. Or maybe they did go full mammal and sorta stepped back, like how life came from the ocean, and whales decided “hey ocean kinda worked out for us, so let’s readapt for that” altho imo less likely because doing so would’ve probably disadvantaged dragons, and nature doesn’t select for things that makes survival as a species harder.

And if you wanna get really technical, this would probs then place dragons in an class of their own, or as surviving non-mammalian Therapsids (but most likely a branch that evolved from Therapsids and became their own thing like mammals did). This would mean that dragons are not mammals, reptiles, birds, or anything else. They are their own thing. But with ancestors popping up from that reptile-mammalian split.

(and aside but Gorgonopsia/Gorgonopsids are considered to have been at least partially warm-blooded, so the fantasy bullshit dragon clade prolly would’ve had to arise sometime before or around them)

ANYWAYS, main reason I opted to group dragons like that is because they never fully screamed “reptile” at me, at least in my canon where they would need certain mammalian traits, or possibly bird-like features. But with the whole bat-wings and the way I drew their legs positioned under them (most reptiles have their legs to the side, like alligators/crocodiles and lizards), and the hair, and certain social behaviors that were very mammalian, it implied to me that there had to be something else in the mix, and all those things pointed to mammals.

This also tied in with Jake and his whole deal with the sweatshirt. Dude wears the thing because his temperature regulation is poor, but if he were a full-on reptile, that sweatshirt would do jack shit keeping him warm. Sweatshirts are designed to trap air inside and let the wearer warm it up with their own body heat. But if Jake was an ectotherm (cold-blooded), he wouldn’t have body heat, so the sweater wouldn’t do anything for him. And I wanted him to have some cold resistance because throwing him in the snow is funny, but also it would be funny if extended cold made him feel gross and sluggish (and hey, defeating a dragon with some very easy thermostat tinkering is also very funny). So he needed to have some level of endothermy (warm-blooded-ness), and the idea was to make it partial. So there you go, legit biological nonsense canon I created just because I wanted to justify my character wearing a sweatshirt.

That said, “partial endotherms” do exist in nature, and they’re called heterotherms. Literally just creatures that are “mixed” warm and cold-blooded, or can temperature regulate only under specific conditions. Animals like certain sharks, tuna, some arctic birds (in their feet), leatherback sea turtles (fins), certain insects, etc...

So it made sense to push that route with dragons, especially with having them tied to those part-reptile part-mammal ancestors where they just, kept a lot of the intermixed traits. And made sense to have that be their source of heterothermy too. Hence, they’d have enough of their own body heat to function in colder places/more varied seasons without completely slowing down or needing to hibernate like a reptile, they can adapt to grow more fur if they need to insulate themselves, but even then extended and severe cold will slow down their metabolisms (make them slow, lethargic, and kinda grumpy), and they still take to warmer climates better, and they will bask to raise their body temps when they can get away with it. (Also hey, maybe fire has a use for self-heating now too).

...and yeah this is a lot more extra than it needed to be, but I enjoy the “merging fantasy with biology” stuff and I do what I want, and idk maybe someone would find it interesting too. But in the most basic sense, pseudomammal was just meant to mean “not quite mammal, but not quite reptile either”, but it’s not a common term, especially now.

1) Who rocks the Ferris Wheel seat and who flips out and begs them to stop?          Arthur rocks it, TJ laughs for a little bit and then begs him to stop if he starts feeling sick.

2) Who is always horny and will have sex at any time, at any place and at any time?             Teej. Without a doubt. He is insatiable at times.

3) Who is more into taking showers/baths together? Who tries to make it relaxing and who tries to make it sexy time?             They’re both equally into it, I think. It’s usually TJ who tries to make it sexy time, but Arthur just kisses him and washes his hair before taking him to bed. It does depend on whether Arthur has had a long day at work, though.

4) Who likes to walk around the house naked and who tells the other to go put some clothes on?             TJ is naked as often as he can be, especially when they’re at the house and not Arthur’s apartment. Arthur rarely asks him to put clothes on, though.

5) Who sleeps on the couch when they get into a fight?             Neither because they’re both stubborn enough to try and sort it before bed - however, if Arthur takes the couch, or the guest room, TJ goes in there to him and just cuddles up with him any way, whether they’re mad at each other or not.

6) Who takes photos of the other while they sleep?             lmao, Teej takes photos of Arthur, but only one of his face which ends up being his phone wallpaper.

They don’t argue all that much, really, so they never end using their love against each other in such a detrimental way.

8) Who likes to wear the others sweatshirts?             loool TJ does. He has a growing collection of Arthur’s softest sweaters that he rotates for new ones occasionally.

Wake TJ up in the middle of the night other than to pull him closer and kiss him, and you’ll have a very grumpy Teej on your hands. Neither of them really have nightmares, but if one wakes, they close the space between them and try to get back to sleep.

10) Who is more likely to cheat?             Neither. TJ could never live with himself, even though he’s been ‘the other’ with someone else, he couldn’t get into a situation like that, nevermind be the one to cheat. Arthur loves his love too much to do that to him.

11) Who makes fun of the other for having a crush on them, and who has to remind them that they are in a relationship?             Loooool Teej would tease Arthur about it until Arthur gives him that deadpan look.

Who thinks they keep messing up, only for the other to tell them they don’t need to worry?             Teej. He’s the biggest worrier in the world. Will never feel worthy enough for Arthurs love, but takes it with an open heart and arms because Arthur wants to give him it and let him feel it. He always feels like he’s messed up, especially early on in the relationship.

24) Who starts random slow dancing with the other in the kitchen? Who holds the other just above the ground and kisses them?             Arthur initiates both; TJ giggles and calls him a sap, dances with him and kisses him anyway. There’s usually soft piano music playing anyway, so at least they have something to sway to.

25) Who says shitty puns and sex jokes just to see the other giggle and blush?             Both???? They do anything to make each other laugh.

26) Who kissed first?             Arthur, when he decided that TJ was a delicious little snack and invited him home from a fundraiser.

A lot of these are about waking a loved one for trivial things and I am not about it. 28) Who writes poems/stories and love songs about the other? Do they sing the songs the write for them?             Not poems or stories, but TJ writes music for Arthur. Pen’s lyrics for them too, but doesn’t sing them because his talent is in his fingers and not his vocal chords.

Hey tumblr! I keep getting tagged in this 11 questions thing, but since they are a different 11 questions every time I’m still going to do these. You folks have some cool writing questions. I dig it.

Tagged this time by @robinbibliophile. Putting my answers under the cut so I don’t take up too much space on your dash :D

1. Favorite genre?

Fantasy, my dude! I love magic, dragons, and ladies with swords. What can I say?

2. 1st or 3rd, present tense or past tense?

I write in 1st, past tense, but I don’t notice tenses a lot when I read unless it’s 3rd person omniscient. I either love that POV, or it majorly gets on my nerves, depending on how it’s used.

3. Favorite kids’ book? (I don’t mean YA, I mean for little kids)

Papa, Please Get the Moon for Me by Eric Carle

4. Favorite part of writing?

Character creation/development! I love detailing people and getting inside their heads. Relationships are also very intriguing to me.

5. Do you write romance or focus heavily on romantic side-plots? Why or why not?

Everything I write has romance in some form, but I rarely put a lot of focus on it. If I do, it’s because the characters involved have a complex/unconventional relationship that can drive conflict or simply provide representation. I usually prefer platonic relationships, because there are less of them in artistic media and I don’t fall into tropes as often when I write them.

6. Any fandoms?

Heck yes! I’m currently into Voltron, TAZ, RWBY, and Hiveswap, but there’ve been plenty of others in the past. I haven’t visited the Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, or Disney fandoms in a while. I was never into MLP but I appreciate the fan music that came out of it, lol.

7. Any stories you wrote when you were younger that you remember fondly, rather than cringing at? (or maybe both?)

Yes! I wrote a series of novellas in middle school. The first one is called Through the Fog and Into Ziphia. The second is called Chasing Down Revenge. They are not great literature and they are endlessly cringe-inducing, but they were quite an accomplishment for middle-school me. Whenever I read them, I gain new insights on why I’ve developed into the writer I am and why I love writing in the first place. My current project, Heart of Lead, wouldn’t have the style or quality it does now if twelve-year-old me hadn’t tapped those projects out in the notes app on an iPad so long ago.

8. You’re trapped in an elevator with one of your ocs, how does that go for you?

Well geez, this 100% depends on the OC! Luanne would just talk about books to keep both of us calm until the fire department rescued us. Wren would fix the elevator. Charles would be super uncomfortable and probably not do much. Luis would just crack some jokes and keep the elevator mishap from ruining the day. I could strike up a conversation with most of the other Heart of Lead characters, but I definitely would not want to be caught with any of the villains. Especially Dale. He’s not a great person, to say the least.

(And of course, this whole question hinges on the hypothetical that they somehow know what an elevator is. Lmao.)

9. Have any random side hobbies or hidden talents?

I have lots of hobbies! Writing is the biggest one, obviously, but I also play the piano, the clarinet, and the ukulele. I draw, crochet, bake, blog, read, jog, and manage clubs at school. I have no chill.

10. Funniest thing about yourself?

Uh I am generally a ridiculous human being (which I mean in a positive way, I’m cool w myself!). I have no coordination. I’m constantly giggling even when I’m trying to talk, whether it’s from amusement or nervousness or any other emotion. My friends say I have a bouncy walk, so I’ve started to notice that too. Idk what’s funniest, but I’m a bit of an odd duck :D

Here's the same shirt in an orange version and a red version. The heart on the newer shirts are a lot more symmetrical and skinnier now, whereas the heart on the vintage shirts are a little wider and there's a slight curve inwards towards the bottom right side. Also, there's no restricted symbol on the bottom right of the 'Y' like the newer shirts because the original shirt was made in the late 70s/early 80s and the world hasn't copied this logo a billion times over yet for New York to say anything yet lol

This is my favorite discovery out of all these pieces for two reasons:

1. You see that "Walt Disney Productions" logo at the bottom? That was the official name of what is now known as "The Walt Disney Company" until the mid 80s. So when I say vintage I'm talking authentic old here because that indicates the sweater is at least 30 years old. Plus, they don't produce items with that corporate name on them anymore, so if he ever wears that sweater in front of a hardcore Disney fanatic/historian they might yelp a little bit. Partially because that sweater is considered a collectible, but also because...

2. I'm pretty sure it's been dyed lmao. I don't think he dyed it himself. I think he bought like that from some hipster-thift store-boutique while he was visiting California. Disney wouldn't have released this sweater with Mickey almost entirely washed out like that, especially since it's a souvenir item for the San Francisco area. Even reproductions of vintage shirts don't look like that. It's a little distressed here and there, maybe, but they would have just gone for the full silhouette. Not this mid-way inbetween look. 

So I'm going to assume a box of dye on a heather blue-grey sweater is how you get that color and why Mickey looks like that unless he had one terrible accident in the washer and just decided to rock it that way.

These are pieces that are pretty close to being found, but I'm missing some piece of information about it so if you know let me know! The problem with a lot of his pieces is that they're either old to the point of vintage or fresh off the rack. So you never have a real time frame of when to look cause he'll wear something from the 80s in 2015, which can be a google search nightmare.

The Azzaro suit doesn't seem to have ever been ready to wear fashion for online purchase, but the Dzojchen shirt I can't find at all despite being a fairly standard shirt for the company.
