OP I want u to know that this post sent me on a journey of picking up my clarinet for the first time in years + refamiliarizing myself with jazz standards. This past week I even got to perform with a bunch of cool musicians at a neighborhood event, and it was incredibly fun.

So… ig the message is that positivity posts make the world a little better and if u love jazz music u can express urself and make friends. How lovely!!

jazz appreciation post. it’s always been one of my favourite music genres and I truly don’t think it gets enough love but it SHOULD because it has THE widest range of any music genre I can think of. you want something peppy and upbeat that makes you wanna dance? put on some jazz. you want something heart-rendingly romantic and gentle? put on some jazz. you want something relaxing that you can just chill to? put on some jazz. it's the holidays and you want something festive? put on some jazz. can't decide whether you want something with lyrics or an instrumental piece? you get the best of both worlds with jazz. you feel like singing but don't know what words to sing? scat jazz. need the perfect background music for eating a croissant at an outdoor cafe in the summer? it's jazz. oh you're actually inside your house and eating that croissant while watching it snow outside? it's also jazz. literally what can't jazz do. jazz is amazing.

I feel like we really lost something when we started looking at writing as a reader-centric product meant to appeal to the desires of a specific audience rather than a writer-centric approach of someone writes whatever particular thing particular compels them/whatever weird thing the demons in their head want to talk about, and people out there who are also compelled, and/or relate, find that writing. A lot of discussions of writing really center around what readers want rather than a writer's exploration. Sometimes as a reader I don't know what I want. I click on a fic or pick up a book I'm not sure about but that looks interesting, and I love it. Reading what I expect to get is it's own joy, but we always need to expand our horizons and not get mad at creators for not always writing what we want/expect.
