god why am i so fucking stupid
#had a B going into the last diffeq exam and only needed a 68 to keep that B#studied all night and knew how to answer two of the questions (worth 70 points total on the exam)#fist question went great no problems there#but on the second question god it was a fuckin disaster#i knew the process and everything#i could do the calculations#i could do the plots#but i made the most stupid algebra mistake IMAGINABLE on the algebra portion of the question#so we were given two equations and needed to find the steady states#no big deal right? just set them equal to zero and solve right? WRONG BIG FUCKING DEAL#my dumbass being the sleep deprived idiot i am FORGOT TO COMPARE THE TWO NUMBERS#so instead of going “oh this equation gave me x and y now to plug into the other equation to find the other x and y values!”#my DUMBASS was like “oh this one is x=1 for all real numbers!”#realized as soon as i left the exam hall and just had to lie in bed for an hour or two sobbing#because i did the work#i knew the process#i should have been able to get that 68#but no i blew it all. on fucking algebra#like i wouldn't be this pissed if i fucked up a differential equation because its still new to me and differential equations are confusing#but nope#i screwed up basic algebra#something ive literally been doing since fucking elementary school#fuck everything

I love how on Tumblr, "media literacy" has become "Um, just because someone writes about this doesn't mean they're endorsing this. I hate all these media puritans ruining everything."
I'm sad to inform you that knowing when and whether an author is endorsing something, implying something, saying something, is also part of media literacy. Knowing when they are doing this and when they're not is part of media literacy. Assuming that no author has ever endorsed a bad thing is how you fall for proper gander. It's not media literacy to always assume that nobody ever has agreed with the morally reprehensible ideas in their work.
Sometimes, authors are endorsing something, and you need to be aware when that happens, and you also need to be aware when you're doing it as an author. All media isn't horny dubcon fanfic where you and the author know it's problematic IRL but you get off to it in the privacy of your brain. Sometimes very smart people can convince you of something that'll hurt others in the real world. Sometimes very dumb people will romanticize something without realizing they're doing it and you'll be caught up in it without realizing that you are.
Being aware of this is also media literacy. Being aware of the narrative tools used to affect your thinking is media literacy. Deciding on your own whether you agree with an author or not is media literacy. Enjoying characters doing bad things and allowing authors to create flawed or cruel characters for the sake of a story is perfectly fine, but it is not the same as being media literate. Being smug about how you never think an author has bad intentions tells me you're edgy, not that you're media literate. You can't use one rule to apply to all media. That's not how media literacy works. Sorry! Sorry! Sorry! Aheem heem. Anyway.

Being someone who read Under The Red Hood and came out with the firm belief that, for Jason, it's not about killing Joker, it's about Jason wanting proof Batman would choose him over the Joker (bc shelia chose the joker). Makes seeing any other media where it's all about just wanting the Joker dead is a teeny bit frustrating. to be honest
Jason could've killed the Joker himself, really, really easily. Jason kidnaps the Joker before the confrontation. I can't open my comic for a reference right now, but it felt like he had the Joker for quite a bit before the confrontation. He had him. He beat him up with a crowbar. He had every single opportunity to kill the Joker himself, but he didn't because that wasn't his goal. Make no mistake, he did plan for the Joker to be dead by the end of it, but do you see what im trying to say here

It's not about making Batman kill either. When Batman says he won't kill, Jason adjusts and goes, 'Let ME kill the Joker or kill me to stop me' instead. The test is all about Batman choosing him. The whole final confrontation is Jason's first death again. The parent, The Joker, and the explosives. It even ends with Jason unable to move as a bomb goes off right next to him again because the parent didn't choose Jason. And instead tried finding an option that'd benefit them and (consequencely) letting the Joker walk, again, lol, lmao <-in agony
