I’ve already said it, I’ll say it again, Mal du Pays is such a visceral and clever word to describe Siffrin’s Sadness. When I first saw it in game it genuinely made me pause like. Yes, it translates to homesickness. But it has the literal word for country in it. “Country sickness”. For a guy whose core problem is that his childhood, his culture, his country is missing. One could argue it’s a twisted pun. I’m obsessed with it.

The world if people stopped applying their understanding of "conservatism" and "religion/christianity" through a very modern, deeply American view onto Death Note (a manga from the Early-mid 2000s which is very much set in the cultural and societal context of early-mid 2000s Japan and all that entails):

People assuming that Light Yagami can't ever be relatable because someone like Light looks to them like a teacher's wet dream of a #perfect student who is always working hard and studying #when the truth is that while Light is the top student in Japan at one point‚ everything he is doing is within the realm of expectation for #'good' Japanese students. Not exceptional or supernatural or beyond dedicated. #I love the cherry red / wine red and I'll probably go back at some point bc it's my Origin.#but for now.#I don't actively lie to people but bc it's a Natural and Plausible hair color #and I'm already pale and I dye my eyebrows to match my hair. ppl figure it's natural #and it has come up MULTIPLE TIMES. and I've recently been rolling with it instead of correcting ppl. bc who cares?#recent examples that come to mind (but I did correct them in this one) my surgeon assuming it was natural #and using my genetics as a natural redhead as a baseline to tell me about what I can expect from my future scarring #and then again later with the anesthesia. they were going to dose me differently #the anesthesiologist glanced at me when I came into the OR and was getting the stuff ready on his cart #and when he heard me talking to my doc and re-telling him that oh the hair isn't natural #he was behind the curtain like FUCK #taking shit off his cart and quietly redoing his setup #that's how I learned that redheads need higher doses of anesthesia than other ppl.#they also need more of the topical stuff like lidocaine. apparently they metabolize it faster(?)#ANYWAY he was going to up my dose thinking I needed it lol #so i almost got way more sedatives and pain meds than i needed bc of my hair dye LMAOOO #other more Normal Life examples was a country dude in full hunting gear holding a door open for me someplace #and I said thank you and he lifted his hat up to point at his (natural) red hair and said ''twins!''#this one sticks with me because that was such a cute thing to do. what the hell #and at snakefest I was talking to some people at their food truck. there was an older guy who trapped me into a convo for like 30mins #he was Very Nice. and they were going to some type of irish festival next and said I should go too bc I'll be right at home #flat out just was like. this bitch looks irish #and I don't know why all of this is so funny to me. it has no reason to be.

hulu was doing live coverage of the election until 2:00am, at which point my power randomly went out and when I reopened the hulu app on my tv the election coverage was replaced with

What's so funny about seeing interpretations, over the years, of Midoriya being jealous that Bakugou is friends with other people in their class is that in canon, Midoriya easily made friends himself and barely batted a lash at Bakugou making friends. In fact, he was more likeable because at a time, the class didn't like Bakugou like that. In the beginning, Midoriya was freaking out that the class was actually talking crap about Bakugou because he wasn't used to that from others (as the school they went to, people would flock around Bakugou).

Like, maybe it's just me, but Midoriya being jealous like that just feels like it came out of nowhere for me. Like, the moment Kirishima even came into the picture, Midoriya already had him his trio with Iida and Uraraka.

#like the whole 'midoriya is jealous' thing about bakugou being friends with like Kirishima and whoever else is so funny to me #because by episode what he already had a trio he was in before the fandom declared bakusquad as a thing #hell even constantly made friends with people in other countries meanwhile bakugou is spying and eyeing #like no folks Midoriya will literally discuss something else with someone with a smile on his face #he notices bakugou has friends yes! but does he actively yearn and whine about it? I went to see the first major hydroelectric system (not a dam) built in New Zealand today

Coleridge Power system in Canterbury, New Zealand

Water in the natural Lake Coleridge is diverted through some tunnels (pic 3) under a small mountain, then down the side of the hill through the penstocks (pic 1), where it goes through turbines to generate electricity before being discharged into the Rakaia River(pic 2), which runs parallel to the lake, at a significantly lower elevation. It is not a dam, like most hydroelectric systems are, instead using the natural elevation and tunnels to power the turbines.

Stats:

Operational in 1914

The tunnels through the hill are around 2km long

Elevation difference between the lake and the turbines is around 160m

Output of 270 gigawatt hours annually.
