my favorite thing about how boss kuno writes teenagers is that he allows them to be messy and mean in that unthinking way that you are when you're sixteen and everything that happens is the best thing and worst thing that's ever happened.

he lets teenagers fumble and fuck up and pretend and make bad decisions and i love it because it's exactly how i was when i was sixteen! the highs are so high and the lows are so low; the first time you really really want someone and how it feels like your chest is going to burst open and the first time your heart gets broken and it feels like being ripped in half. and then you have to go to tenth grade and play in your band.

boss kuno writes teenagers with both respect for them as full human beings and the unflinching empathy of loving people while they're making the terrible decisions you're supposed to make when you're figuring out how to be a human.
